3-0 out of 5 stars Good acting, poor writing, beautiful people
I wouldn't call this movie great but it's an OK thriller. Thank goodness this movie has the beautiful Diane Lane nude but without violence. I easily give her 5 stars but the storyline barely gets 1 star for an overall average of 3. There are too many unbelievable situations here that could have played out OK with a little more character development in the writing. As it's written we are led to believe that she arrives new in town, gets off the bus at a department store, walks in with some drawings and gets the job as the window dresser. (Maybe her beauty did it). In another scene after the pervert calls her many times, breaks into her apartment, etc. etc, etc. she meets him alone on a dark railroad bridge at night to talk with him. Is this reality??? Nice acting, beautiful people, dream like photography but unreal writing summarizes this movie.

3-0 out of 5 stars IT'S GREAT!!!!!!!
Thilling movie!! A little "Risque", but was entertained. Diane Lane is GREAT in this movie. The end is worth waiting for. Nothing bloody or gross, just bad language and some nudity.

2-0 out of 5 stars Humble Beginnings for Diane Lane
Diane Lane stars at Katya, a window dresser for a big city department. However, her displays are borderline erotica, and she unintentionally attracts the attention of Jack, a married man who has developed an obsession with Katya as he believes her displays are speaking to him, telling him of her wanton desires for him. Inevitably, Katya tells Jack's wife about him, cracking his madness wide open into homicidal rage.

Next to some of the erotic scenery in this video flick, Diane Lane is (as always) the only thing watchable. Everything else is formula ... watered down. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Heart Warming
This is a very heart warming movie about coming home. It reinforces the strong family bonds even through years of separation. It explores the need to stand up against unhealthy traditions in a changing world, as well as, traditions which can help define who we are in an ever changing world.

3-0 out of 5 stars COMING HOME
Adopted by a middle aged Jewish couple and doted on by her mother young Rebecca Hoffman leads a conventional life. Then her mother dies and her father remarries. In his new marriage there is no room for Rebecca. She is one to be tolerated. She no longer has a home. Years later Rebecca searches for her birth parents and comes to the realization that she is not white nor Jewish. Rebecca is Navajo.

Lost Child is a film based on the the autobiography, Looking For Lost Bird, by Yvette Melanson. In this picture we see the life of a child stolen from her birth parents and made to assume a new identity. Her adoptive father's reluctance to have her, her feeling of isolation and her quest to find her identity is both moving and tragic as we see a young woman so far from her home.

Mercedes Ruehl plays a sensitive and savy Rebecca who tries so hard to be accepted by her adoptive father. Her discovery of her Navajo roots gives her comfort and a sense of completion. Yet, she too and her family undergo some heartaches and challenges as she returns home. This movie shows the hope of a mother seeking a reunion of her children. We witness the reintergration of a woman back to her heritage. We also see the ugly side of cultural prejudice as her daughters attempt to fit in with their new family and culture.

This is an enjoyable film that is a sanitized version of the book. Everyone in the picture is so good, so noble to the point of being unbelievable. Of course everything works itself out and the family lives happily ever after. If only life could be that simple. Inspite of that Lost Child is well worth your seeing as you get a glimpse into another culture. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Return to Video
I originally saw this movie as a mini-series on a local television station about 15 years ago and loved it. A friend of mine taped it and every year I would borrow it. My friend and I have lost touch and I have patiently waited for it to appear on t.v. again or on video. Finally I have found it. This story keeps your attention. I have loved it for 15 years!

5-0 out of 5 stars BETTER MINI SERIES THAN DYNASTY
Return to the Eden is the BEST MINI SERIES EVER MADE. When I first time I saw it that was 10 years ago I still enjoy it and I will recommend to everybody to watch. The love, hate and revenge is the point of this movie and you will be suprisse of the ending of this remarkable movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars A +
I loved this movie. I was lucky enought to find it years ago.
It is a long movie (4 hours) but it is great from the beginning to the end. A very rich lady married a tennis star who only married her for her money, he also has a lover, which just happens to be her best friend. Not long after the wedding he tries to kill her. She lives but no one knows so she desided to come back & get even. In the mean time he keeps trying to get her money but because there was no body, this won't happen. It's nice to see a killer just what he deserves. If you can't buy this movie at least rent it. It is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Return to Eden
I saw this mini series years ago when I lived in Greece, I loved it and would love to own it, but $ 115 is a bit too much, maybe I treat myself at Christmas. Love to all Rebecca Gilling fans, she is georgeous. Barbara

This well-acted, sweeping herstorical epic focuses on the livesof three women, beginning in 1853. China Beach's Dana Delany is Sarah, the family matriarch, whose little sister Euphemia (a delightful and empathetic Tina Majorino)has been living with her best friend, Georgia (beautiful Rachael Leigh Cook), and Georgia's parents (Michael York, Julie Carmen) on a large, bucolic Georgia plantation. After the sisters' father dies, Sarah's husband, upstandingTexas Ranger Bartlett (Powers Boothe), takes "Pheemy" down to Peach Tree, Texas, to live with him andSarah.

Pheemy and Georgia begin a correspondence chronicling their divergent lives. As Pheemy and her family work their farm and battle Santa Ana and hostile Indians, indulged Georgia is coming to terms with her family's greatest secret: she is one-quarter Native American. Majorino and Cook are excellent in their demanding roles and offer a challenge for their adult counterparts (Annabeth Gish as Pheemy, Angelina Jolie as Georgia). This film, originally a TV miniseries, is an earnest attempt to depict the difficult--and often tragic--role women were compelled to endure during this historically rich but phenomenally difficult time. True Women has plenty of action, butrelationships, politics, and grim reality are the true focus, as issues of sexuality, prejudice, human rights, and of course slavery are eagerly examined in the frontier setting. The sensitive should be forewarned: it seems like there is a death every five minutes. --N.F. Mendoza ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Better Westerns!
Dana Delaney should play stronger characters like the one she played in this movie--she was amazing! The movie brilliantly portrayed the tense love/hate relationship between the Indians and the white man and the great respect that existed between them at times. Throughout the movie, you know that Tarantula wants Sarah and could probably take her at any time, but denies himself & chooses not to take her because of his great respect for her courage. Towards the end of the movie, you see this respect repeated when Phemie chooses to give Tarantula her horse and tells him he should not have to walk. Incredible!

The friendship between Phemie and Georgia is fantastic--kind of a "Beaches" theme where they become friends as children and remain friends throughout their lives, overcoming personal differences & making an impact as women on history.

The little girl who played Phemie as a child is absolutely adorable--they couldn't have picked anyone better to play her part. She was very convincing & very funny at times.

I would definitely recommend this movie to Western lovers and non-Western lovers alike!

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly spectacular!!
Though it's technically "old", this movie is a MUST-SEE!!! It is about some very brave and determined women living in the mid to late 1800's, spanning the U.S. Mexican War, the Civil War, and various other predicaments of the time period.

The story traces the lives of two girls, Georgia and Euphemia, who are best friends. Phemie's father has just died and she must go to Texas to live with her older sister Sarah, who is already a mother. Phemie finds herself in the middle of the U.S. Mexican War and she watches in awe as her sister leads the women pioneers to safety while their men heroically defend their homes. Georgia, back in Georgia :-), is experiencing some very horrific acts on prejudice. She herself is part Native American so her family is in great danger. The girls grow up in this young and troubled nation, and reunite to fight against the prejudice and other social issues.

This film is truly inspirational and has lots of action, so I think guys will enjoy it too! ;-) The cast includes Angelina Jolie and young Rachael Leigh Cook (the grown-up and little Georgias, respectively). You have to watch this movie - it is so well-written and acted, and a guaranteed tearjerker!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars "true women" is true!
"true women" is a super movie! It shows the problems faced by the Texas pioneer women-from Indians, disease, death, war, rivers, crops, children, and Texas politics!
Its grand-pretty well acted and I have enjoyed it several times.

1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of time!
This originally made-for-TV miniseries aims to be a lot of things(someone evidently had a hard time figuring out what kind of series they really wanted to make!)-part drama, part action movie and part western, but sadly,it ends up being nothing but a sentimental weeper. What we have here is a complete lack of attitude, and no story is being told whatsoever. The idea,if one can speak of an idea behind this rubbish, seems to have been to bring in a lot of pretty women and let them take it from there-but to where? This isn`t going anywhere. I can`t see what makes these actors especially suited for their respective parts either.
Who on earth suggested John Schneider as Sam Houston? If you are interested in Texas history and want to watch a real good performance by an actor taking on that part, watch the great Stacy Keach in "Texas". This is just a waste of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars True Women
This is a fascinating tale of three women whose lives are intertwined. This movie is truly an inspiration to all women! This movie will make you smile and cry. It is a tale of bravery and survival. A must-have for any Angelina Jolie, Dana Delaney or Annabeth Gish fan! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A truely engaging story!!
Kirstie Allie stars in this true story of a young writer's journey through the misguided fantasyland of the Playboy Club also the harrassment and pain behind the official smile. In 1963 a young journalist Gloria Steinem posed as a Playboy Bunny to find out what type of funny, glorious life a bunny leads. It wasn't pleasing, with false promises of easy money being forced into a painful, numb fitting uniform being overworked without breaks, paid less than promised and being dominated by the patrons and staff into a subservient role. Her journalistic story ended at the end became very distraught and serious.A truly engaging story!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Based on an article
"A Bunny's Tale" was a made for TV movie that originally aired on ABC in 1985. It was based on an article, "I Was a Playboy Bunny," wrote in 1963 by Gloria Steinem. This article can be found in Ms. Steinem's book entitled "Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions" with added postscript on the movie in the second edition (1995).

This movie takes place in 1963 with Kirstie Allie portraying Gloria Steinem, a reporter posing as a Bunny in the New York Playboy Club to get an article. The movie does do a good job of including alot of riveting facts that Ms. Steinem wrote about. Unfortunately other fascinating tidbits were left out. Also I felt the made up part involving the main character's boyfriend took up to much time, and most of that story line was not interesting. The only good thing about the relationship of the boyfriend is that it showed how Gloria's working at the club affected one of her other relationships. Overall the movie was interesting and worth watching, but I still walked away a little disappointed. Ms. Steinem article was so much more rich and detailed on what it was like to be a Bunny. The movie lacked in ways on that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
Just seeing Kirstie in that bunny outfit was enough for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nicely done
I liked this movie. Much better than some of the other movies about stars from that era. Like the Osmonds, Partridge Family, and Brady Bunch. ... This one however, had more time to go into the WHOLE story with 6 hour play time instead of just 2. I thought the actor who< did Joseph did well. If the movie is a true depiction of Joseph Jackson, he's not that abusive, just strict for those times. Would be considered abusive for this "time out for brats" era. I loved the little guy who played the little Michael. Wonder where he is now. Was that really him singing. He was so cute! Was that Jermaine's son who played the young Jermaine. Looked just like him and just did a wonderful job. The oldest Jermaine was a terrible actor. The only Marlon I liked was the youngest one. The other two were casted terribly and he wasn't that ugly! They did a wonderful job casting Tito on all the ages. Those actors did a great job. The youngest Jackie was believable but not the other one. Vanessa Williams did a great job too. The two older Michaels, I don't think were as good as the first little guy but I guess were acceptable. The oldest ones voice was too deep, and he was skinny enough to be Michael. Did an alright job dancing though. The middle Michael sung well, but wasn't near as cute as the REal Michael Jackson was and not near of good dancer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Flim, Yet good and Bad casting
The Jacksons an American Dream is entertaining MOVIE and well planned with a well thought story. Yet some of the cast wasn't that belivalbe, because some of the kids didn't even look a little bit like the real Jacksons. Even Michael wasn't that well done. the adult one had a deep voice and wasn't skinny enough. And most of all, his nose was too big. couldn't the casting crew just find an MJ inpersonator. The 2nd Micheal was great though. Like a clone. But the Jermaine was not anything like the real thing. He wasn't even that good looking. Yet kathrine was done well by Angela Basset and Joseph played by Laurence. Sussane De Passe was played by Vennessa Williams perfect as a picture. Despite some of the casting, the movie is brilliant, with, fun yet emotinal lerning things you never thought you would know about talened yet troubled Jackson Family! The movie also features some of your favorite classic hits from I Want You Back, ABC, I'll Be There, even Bilie Jean and Beat It Showing hoe MJ became the KING OF POP! If you haven't seen it, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars great film, the people that play Micheal are amazing!
This is an amazing mini seris! It's the perfect gift for any Jackson fan! The people that play Micheal are awesome and could pass for the real Micheal Jackson! I must also give credit to the person that played the father because that is a starnge and power person and he made the character even more amazing. The rest of the cast was cute and good! But I am just so amazed by the person that plays Micheal in 1976- 1983 that was one of the best parts of the movie but the best of best part of the movie is when Micheal performs "Billie Jean" is amazing and is actually like Micheal did it. Please see this movie you won't regret it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great DVD, but...
Great story line and music. But, I would have like to have some behind the scene footage. I had originally taped it from WABC in 1992 on my VCR, and was pleased when it was released in this format.

5-0 out of 5 stars MARLON GETS THE BUTT-WHUPPIN' OF A LIFETIME!
In one early scene, Marlon screws up on a dance number, and Joe gets very angry at him. As a punishment, he has to go out and pick a switch to get the butt-whuppin' of a lifetime. When he comes back in, his shirt is off, and Joe's a busy beatin' him until his back is red. He's crying and screamin', "DADDY, WHAT DID I DO?", while his brothers look on. Please see this scene, it's funny! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A Bridge to Bad Parenting
I saw this film during a course for American Sign Language and procured a copy to study the signing. The actress playing the lead is quite skilled and I enjoyed her portrayal very much. The story was rather generic - but was fairly good. I felt that the film was well done (if rather an unpleasent tale) for most of the movie - but the ending was too quick, too simple. If you seek a good movie to study sign language this is an excellent choice. If you like movies with more finess regarding the topic of deafness I suggest you take a look at 'Beyond Silence'.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bridge to Silence

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent choice...
I loved this presentation on Masterpiece. I'd never read the book, or really given Willa Cather's works a lot of thought until I saw this movie. The story is beautiful, a young woman who has an amazing talent, as many of us do, yet still seeks to find herself, as also many of us do. Alison Elliot does a magnificent job, I'd love to see her in more Masterpiece Works. (She also starred in The Buccaneers)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece of American literature
After the horrid job Hollywood did on her novel A LOST LADY, Willa Cather refused to allow her works to be converted to dramatic form--and she put it in her will. But that was before Masterpiece Theater raised the stakes for the transformation of literary classics to film. Now that a few of Cather's works are no longer in copyright, some have been filmed with mixed results. The Masterpiece Theater film, THE SONG OF THE LARK, is the best of the lot, a fine presentation of the story of a young girl who finds her voice when she connects the two things--the western lands and the music--that she loves. This production has the good sense to end the story at its climax, leaving the weaker ending (which Cather herself acknowledged) to the reader's imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Musical and Dramatic Must See
This story follows a young musician through the trials of her art. She begins her musical career at the piano but finds that her voice is her gift. The music and drama of this movie are beautiful and deserve a personal review. I highly recommend this movie. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Anyone would love the Remington Steele TV series!
"Try this for a deep dark secret. There great detective Remington Steele, he doesn't exist! I invented him. Follow. I always loved excitement so I studied, and apprenticed, and put my name on an office. But absolutely nobody knocked down on my door. A female private investigator seemed so... feminine. So I invented a superior. A decidedly masculine superior. Suddenly there were cases around the block! It was working like a charm. Until the day he walked in. With his blue eyes and mysterious past. And before I knew it, he assumed Remington Steele's identity. Now I do the work and he takes the bows. It's a dangerous way to live, but as long as people buy it, I can get the job done. We never mix business with pleasure. Well... almost never. I don't even know his real name!"

This is how some of the episodes began, with this introduction by 'Remington Steele's' assistant, Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist). Now you know the whole story behind Remington Steele. The Remington Steele series were about the cases Remington Steele (Pierce Brosnan) and his associate Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist) cracked many difficult and complicated cases. Also starring were James Read as Murphy Michaels as their co-worker (only in the first season), Janet DeMay as Bernice Foxe their secretary (only for the first season), and Doris Roberts as Mildred Krebs (for the rest of the seasons). Showing occasionally was also Stephanie Zimbalist's father, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as Daniel Chalmers, an old friend of 'Remington Steele'.

Murphy Michaels calls Laura Holt to help him investigate a brutal murder. What he doesn't expect is when Remington tags along with her, complaining that Steele would mess up everything. So Remington strikes up a deal with Laura; if he figures out who the murderer is first, Laura must spend a weekend in Paris with him. But, on the other hand, if Laura catches the murderer first, Remington Steele must tell her about one year of his mysterious past. Who will find the murderer first? * I love this episode primarily because of the banter between Pierce Brosnan, Stephanie Zimbalist, and James Read. Also the sparks of jealousy between Remington Steele and Murphy Michaels over Laura is very interesting to watch! Very great ending, too, I might add!

4-0 out of 5 stars Steele Crazy After All These Years
Definatly one of my fav. eps, this video allows me to enjoy it again and again! I love the tension between Murphy, Steele, and Laura, as Laura and Steele vie for who can solve the case first. I love the bet that they make. "One week in Paris, for one year of your life." This is the episode where sparks really start to fly between Steele and Laura, you see them even closer two eps later in Vintage Steele, but that's a whole different story! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A funny, creepy, romantic, mysterious ride
One of the best episodes of Remington Steele that I've seen! The Steele agency ends up in one of its strangest cases ever, protecting a man from his wife and his wife and his wife and...

After having a nightmare full of disjointed images, and the sight of a hatchet, a man named Frank Dannon wakes up in a motel room, unable to remember anything. A moment later, an arrow hits the wall just over his head.

He hires Steele and Laura to find out who he is, and along the way they discover an odd little facet: This man has been sustaining five households with five wives. And they're not happy.

There's sophisticated fashion-designer Barbara, passionate lower-class Stella, demure blonds Mary and Terry, and sexy vixen Nancy. Most of them had the means, the opportunity--but did they all have a motive? Meanwhile, middle-aged, romantic-at-heart Mildred makes a major mistake in the course of the case, and feels that she's let Steele down. The kind con-man sits her down and has a heart-to-heart talk with Mildred...

There's comedy, creepiness, mystery, and romance in this episode, as Frank tries to remember who would try to kill him, as Laura and Steele try to keep him safe from his various wives and discern which one is shooting arrows and wielding axes. It's a funny ride that won't leave you disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing show!
What a show.... what a couple...
This is one of the best shows ever shown on tv. Intelligent, great writing, sexual tension, and comedy that would sum up the show of Remington Steele!
I love Stephanie Zimbalist's role as Laura Holt... Beautiful, smart, and fashionable! Most of the stuff she worn on the show is still very fashionable today.. very CK, Banana Republic, Club Monoco like stuff..
I just love her very real and beautiful image... very un-hollywood like.. and I do think if she was 10-15 years younger she would have the carrer of Sandra Bullock.

4-0 out of 5 stars Setting the tone
This episode sets the tone for Laura Holt as a bad role model for women. In her world, she can't inspire other women to be private detectives because she tells everyone that Mr. Steele is the head of the agency and she is an associate. She also lies to everyone she meets when she says that Mr. Steele exists, when at first he didn't, and then when she introduces the man she thinks is a con man as Mr. Steele. She calls Steele a fraud, yet she invents a fake boss simply because she thinks she's entitled to her own agency. She also sets the tone for the rest of the series by not believing Steele when he tells her the truth. And she is a hypocrite when she calls him a liar while lying to him that there really is a Remington Steele. There is no chemistry between the two characters because Laura is paranoid about having a relationship with him, or anyone else for that matter. And Steele isn't that attracted to her because over the course of the series, he accepts her excuses for not being with him rather than pursuing her. Laura Holt spent four years during this series looking for reasons not to be with Steele rather than looking for reasons to be with him. I will never understand why Laura would spend so much time with a man she found so unsuitable and why he would stay with a woman who found him so unsuitable.

5-0 out of 5 stars The premier "Remington Steele" episode!
-Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist)-

Anyway, this episode is the premier episode which explains almost everything about how Pierce Brosnan got to be Remington Steele. When Laura Holt is hired to proved security to some gems, she meets a mysterious Ben Pierson. But she gets the surprise of her life when Ben Pierson is not only not the real Ben Pierson, he has assumed the role of Remington Steele! Does he know her secret, that her superior Remington Steele doesn't exist? And who is he really? Could he actually be a murderer and a thief? * Great episode, and I just loved the banter and chemistry between Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist. And you've go to admit, Pierce Brosnan is a great suave and sophisticated Steele!

5-0 out of 5 stars The beginning of one of the greatest detective series
The first of the Remington Steele series!

Laura Holt is an able, intelligent detective, but sexism spills over when her agency is neglected because she is a woman. So, she invents a fictional superior named "Remington Steele," a man who no one ever sees.

Her business bustles until a man comes into her life, calling himself Remington Steele--the problem is, she doesn't know where he comes from, who he is, or what his real name is. "Steele" is handsome, sophistocated, worldly, debonair, and apparently gleans all of his life knowledge from an encyclopedic memory of old movies. But he also guards his secret past like gold.

Laura has no choice but to keep the man as a sidekick, despite the fact that he is hailed as a genius when she does all the work. Adding to the oddity of the situation is the fact that she is fast falling in love with him.

Stephanie Zimbalist and Pierce Brosnan reportedly didn't like each other, but they project a sizzling screen chemistry.

Brosnan manages to give a difficult character depth and an intriguing mystery, exuding precisely the cultured warmth that is needed. But Steele is clearly a very emotional man as well, whom Laura has a good influence on.

Zimbalist creates a very feminine career woman, a great role model. Laura is no Bond-babe. She is very pretty (not the standard Hollywood "pretty"--a natural prettiness) but is independent and strong-minded. You can sense her unhappiness when she is discounted as being a female private investigator.

First part of a really enjoyable series!
