5-0 out of 5 stars 80's cyberpunk rock video mecha girl classic
Future post-earthquake Tokyo has all-powerful corporation Genom taking complete control, were it not for interference from a vigilante mercenary super hero girl group called the "Knight sabers".

This is one of the best anime series projecting beautiful, sexy women in a non-degrading way. The Knight Sabers leader (Dr. Stingray) is a super-genius who designed (and keeps improving) the hard suits which are the only thing that can defeat Genom's android fighting units. Anime pinup idol Priss, the toughest one, is as daring on a motorcycle as she is beautiful. Linna is a great athlete while Nene is a computer hacker. Inter-personal relationships between these 4 are done really well.

There are lots of fighting scenes for those into that, but the story is really about the state of society (a possible future for us) and why the girls put their buts on the line and try to change what they can.

The music is like what MTV used to play, back when they actually played music videos. Those really into this (Or fans needing to see more of the Knight Sabers in action) will love the "Hurricane Live" bonus DVD. Kind of nostalgic, but not obnoxious as some 80's revival stuff tends to be.

Overall this MegaSeries is a great value with all 8 "OAV" episodes in this box set. The animation is a bit dated compared with more recent releases, but the story line is still better than most recent releases.

Anime doesn't get much better than this. A must for "best of class" collectors. (Word on the 'net is that this OAV series is superior to later derivatives).

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have '80s Anime!!!
This DVD presents the first three episodes of the Bubblegum Crisis series. The first episode presents the post-earthquake world of MegaTokyo in 2032, with Genom Corporation's Boomers wreaking havoc in the city, and a band of four women (the Knight Sabers) in hardsuits protecting the innocents. The second episdoe focuses on one of the women, Linna, and a close friend who is targeted by a Genom executive. In the final episode, the conflict between Genom and the Knight Sabers escalates.

The series, inspired by Blade Runner and itself a tremendous influence on following anime, is full of fast-paced action and incredible music. This DVD provides anime newcomers with an excellent introduction to the world of anime.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT
This is one of the pioneering shows of Anime! I remember shelling out $35 to $40 for ONE tape! Blech..what a rip off! But it got me hooked on the "Knight Sabers"! This show is fun and shows it's age with the clothes they wear etc but is a GREAT show and is the BEST in the series. If you are a fan buy THIS edition, the casing is junky as its a big clunky box with plain ol jewel cases etc but its well worth the price alone for fans of the show. The characters were done very well in this show amidst some sillyness, but not as silly as the new show 2040.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blade Runner Anime Style
Takes place in the same universe "Bubblegum Crisis", but before Knight Sabers existed. Robots called Boomers, look just like humans, are very intelligent and work in the cities for the humans doing a variety of tasks such as construction, cleaning and even sexual services. Sometimes these robots malfunctioned and ended up killing innocent people. The A.D. Police force was created to destroy malfunctioning boomers. What I liked about this series was the good quality of animation, action, sound fx, and tense story telling, it has all the makings of a great anime. With its futuristic cities and noire over-tone it has a similar look and feel like the movie, Blade Runner. The Boomers are robots that look and act like humans; they are like the Replicants. In a way, the A.D. Police are like Blade Runners. I also enjoyed this anime because the cop, 'Leon' is a good character, and I always wanted some background on him. Blood and gore, nudity, for adults only. Each episode is self contained so you can watch any of them and not feel lost in the story. Ends on 3 then connects with the anime Bubblegum Crisis 2030

5-0 out of 5 stars I want my bubbleguMTV
As you should know, most of J-pop and MTV music video are worthless. Then, how surprising that Hurricane Live, which features songs in music video format with images culled from the series Bubblegum Crisis, comprises some of the best pop songs and cool visuals ever.
For admirers of Bubblegum Crisis it's a well-known fact that the series is great on many levels, not least in its musical department. Songs range from hard rock to love ballads, from catchy pop tunes to elegiac lamentations. Also, the singer for the first Hurricane Set, Omori Kinuko, had a truly rare quality, almost extinct in today's pop music culture: a quality simultaneously tough and vulnerable, fierce and gentle.
Songs like Mad Machine are as thoughtful and complex in laying out sci-fi themes of technology out of hand; other songs are about being lonely in a faceless crowd, the irrepressible life spirit, the romance of rebellion, sad love for a lost friend, the power to overcome hopelessness and face the new day.
Comparable to Beatles' Rubber Soul, Stone's Between the Buttons, and Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars surprised
sigh....I assumed this anime was just one of those sexy girl athletes stuff(well who won't(...)) ... however, having no accesss to anime other then those kiddy digimon/pokemon stuff, I gave it another chance. I believe thoses episodes i have seen were from this DVD. SERIOUSLY !!BRING YOUR TISSUES although to date I've watched only few episodes, I find myself attracted to the friendship, and the deep emotional thoughts of those girls. I am a sailormoon fan too, if you ask me how I compare the two anime,... well... I'm sad to say that sailormoon is a little simple, this battle atheletes victory goes much deeper into the thoughts of these girls whom although all are athletes, still have very different personality. ... to date I've really only watched three episodes, two of which were from this DVD.....I had not had tissues so my sleaves were all wet from all my tears.....now I'm online becoz i want to find an official site for this anime...sadly theres none... guess i just hve to continue watching one episode per week from our special tvb channel to find out what's at the end..... anyway...THIS ANIME HAS NO NUDITY OR SEX SO IT IS OKAY TO WATCH....(sorry, boys) This is definately a shoujo anime, If you are a girl, give it a chance! this anime goes deep into thoughts of those girls...(warning- if you are like me, prepare some tissues)

(I just want to add... I wouldn't recogmend this to girls who are too young, partly becoz they might not understand it,..but mainly becoz....these anime girls have the ideal figures, and i think young girls may become depressed if they do not have 'that' figure ... you see...I have been depressed for not having the sailormoon figure)

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than Sailormoon...
I'm a die hard Sailormoon fan, but when I saw Battle Athletes Victory, I was amazed. Maybe it's the fact that I'm an athlete as well, but this anime is excellent! There's drama, comedy, action... Everything anime needs! It's very underwatched for how awesome it is. Definetly get this- you won't be disappointed! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Battle Athletes Victory- Doubt and Conflict
This video is a must have for all Japanese Animation fans or just sci-fi fans. It does a wonderful job of showing the indecisions and conflicts of our heroine as she battles with her depleted self-esteem. Comedy and emotion are mixed in a perfect balance, so the story doesn't seem overdone. I never though a series could put me through so many emotions this early in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars A definite must-see!
This was a truly endearing and engaging anime. The characters are wonderful and fun to watch, and the plot is engaging, and manages to surprise you along the way. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry, and probably everything else in between. See this series! I'm already hooked on it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best anime series out there...period.
I have watched many anime series in the past 18 months, and I have to say that this one is one of the best I have ever seen. The animation, characterdevelopment, English voice acting, and plot are awesome. This series is an excellent combination of action, comedy, and drama. Even if you are not into anime, I still highly recommend that you check out this series. There is some language that some might deem offensive. But if you are looking to watch a mini-series that is action packed, emotionally charged, yet light hearted at the same time, get this series. I know I can't wait until the rest is released! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Crazy, Comical Volume you just have to buy!!!
This is one of the best volumes in the Magical Project S series.
This volume is mostly about friendship, and love. In episode 8, I think it's really cute when Misao and Sasami hold hands. In episode 9, there's a lot of twists and turns when Sasami and her father land on a deserted island. Who will save them? Will Pixy Misa get there first? In episode 10, Sasami and her father travel to a western town and meet a friend. There, Sasami has her work cut out for her as Pixy Misa arrives to help the mayors enemy destroy the town. This is a wacky and fun volume you just don't want to miss!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Sammy in the motorcycle sidecart is sooo cute
This is volume 3 of 8 as Pretty Sammy's adventures continue.

My favorite scenes from this volume are when Pretty Sammy is a passenger in father's motorcyle sidecart. Very very cute. Unfortunately, her father is not the best of drivers, and they get lost and crash land onto an island. Will Pixy Misa be able to find here here?

Pretty Sammy fanatics know that 4 different instances of this series exist. Pretty Sammy originated in a follow-up to the Tenchi Muyo OVA called the "Mihoshi Special" and later re appeared in one of the fantasy within a fantasy episodes of the Tenchi Universe Series. Next came the OVA, and finally this Magical Project S TV series.

This is great for those of us who like really cute stuff and are kids or kids at heart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great show
Great show For any sasami Fans, Tenchi muyo fans or Just plain anime fans. Its a very energetic show, And the best way I could describe watching this show is like pure fun. A very fun and pleasing show to watch, although it might be a little immature for the mature viewers out there but it can work for any age. subtitled but you get used to it after a while, (unless you read real slow you barly even notice the subtitles) I highly recommend buying this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sasami finds love, at least for a while
This is volume 4 of 8 in Pretty Sammy's adventures.

(1) Pretty Sammy loses her baton and it is found by a classmate. Will the Magical Girl wanna-be be more troublesome than Pixy Misa? Will Pixy Misa take advantage of the situation?

(2) Tenchi makes a cameo appearance and really gets Sasami's attention -- to the point of neglecting Misao. Just how is the Tenchi character represented in this series?

(3) An arranged marriage of one of Sasami's teachers (You'll have to see the volume to see if it's Mihoshi, Kiyone or Washu!) leads to complicated situations. Will Pretty Sammy be able to keep the relationship together?

Pretty Sammy fanatics know that 4 different instances of this series exist. Pretty Sammy originated in a follow-up to the Tenchi Muyo OVA called the "Mihoshi Special" and later re appeared in one of the fantasy within a fantasy episodes of the Tenchi Universe Series. Next came the OVA, and finally this Magical Project S TV series.

Recommened for those who like things "too cute".

5-0 out of 5 stars a good magical girl anime
The series starts out with Sasami (from the tenchi muyo series) as a normal school girl. But in a the magical kingdom of Juraihelm, Tsunami and Ramia are competeing to be queen. The soultion? 5-0 out of 5 stars WOnderful Movie
I never actually knew the title for this great movie when I first watched it, 3 years ago. I saw it on the sci fi channel and was amazed. It was the first anime movie I had ever seen in my life! It trully it is action packed, with a war going on between two life forms and one planet that holds a key to winning that battle. I loved the characters who are different in every way. This is the movie that got me into anime, I love it now. This is not like Pokemon, this had depth and story to it. I highly recomend you watch this!

5-0 out of 5 stars From the author of Tales of Ancient Xenar
I have been an anime lover for over 20 years. Now if my book were to be made into a movie, I'd definitely want it to be an anime. But enough of that.
Gall Force is my 4th most favorite anime of all (behind Fist of the North Star, Vampire Hunter D and Wicked City.) I first saw Gall Force on Sci Fi channel. I was very impressed with the story, its plot, its characterization and drama. This story is about an interplanetary battle of the sexes. Literally all of the people on the good side are women. They pilot a starship called the Star Leaf. I do not yet have this on video yet, but I plan to get it. I hope soon that parts 2 and 3 will be dubbed in english. I don't really like watching subtitled films.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great movie
I thought that it was a great twist on the old Genesis story. So long as the taking of religious stories and telling them in a new way doesn't bug you, then watch this movie, even if you are not big into religion, it is a good movie anyways.

5-0 out of 5 stars We Have Met the Extra-Terrestrials... and They are Us!
*
Taking the world's most universally recognized legend and putting a new twist on it, ''Gall Force: Eternal Story'' is an epic adventure that you don't soon forget and that you will want to watch again and again.

The story opens in the midst of a full-scale battle raging in the depths of outer space between two persistently warring races: the somewhat indescribable cyborg ''Paranoids'' and the all-female humanoid race called ''Solnoids'' (which raises the intriguing question of how they reproduce... but let's suspend logic for the moment).

The Paranoid/Solnoid wars have been waging for centuries, and diplomats on both sides have grown weary of the never-ending battle and have entered into a secret covenant where they have mutually devised a risky plan which they hope will act as a buffer between the two feuding races and hopefully bring both sides to the table to begin suing for peace. But in order for this mission to be successful, their joint activities must operate covertly and be kept a closely guarded secret from everyone on both sides -- especially from the military arms of the two warring factions, each of whom would stop at nothing and spare no effort to recover the ''experimental project'' for ''their'' side to exploit. The details of this ''Top Secret'' diplomatic gambit are entrusted to a single Solnoid who's been dispatched as a secret agent to infiltrate the ranks of a ship's crew to insure that the objective proceeds successfully without a hitch.

Forced to make the leap into lightspeed out of its surrounding blazing deathtrap, a sole Solnoid spaceship, the ''Star Leaf,'' has been targeted for the for the infiltration of both the Solnoid/Paranoid agent and the secret ''experiment.'' The Star Leaf's escape course is to a distant star system: Their destination is a 'new home world' -- a terra-formed planet moon the Solnoid have given the name ''Chaos.'' Chaos is the satellite companion to the planet ''Terra,'' which the Solnoid refer to as ''the planet that lives on its own'' (which raises another question of logic ... ''Why not just inhabit Terra from the very beginning?'' -- but again, let's try to overlook this notable flaw in the story).

In their hasty attempt at escape from all of the senseless slaughter taking place around them, the crew of the Star Leaf must constantly deal with numerous emerging deadly threats, from pursuing warships, equipment malfunctions, the real possibility of mutually assured destruction, and the presence of a sinister looking alien life form which stalks the remaining crew throughout their space vessel. The surviving members of the Star Leaf's crew must also try to understand the meaning and significance of a bizarre precognitive dream they all share involving a mysterious Solnoid-like alien creature which could either be a Paranoid brainwashing and mind-controlling ploy or the key to ending the hostilities between the Paranoid and Solnoid races.

The moon Chaos becomes the final battleground in the Paranoid/Solnoid war as deception, treachery, and the lust for power and military advantage overtake reason, diplomacy and visions of unconditional peace.

Much more enjoyable in the 'English dubbed' version (which is something of a rare experience in anime DVDs), ''Gall Force: Eternal Story'' often catches you off your guard with where you think the story is going to take you and, in a manner much like in the ''SCREAM'' movies, messes with your head as it relates to who lives, who dies, and who the ''bad guys'' are.

A bit more attention to detail could (should) have been paid to the animation itself, in my opinion, and a few things about the story could have been smoothed out as well (but hey... this IS ''Japanese Animation,'' after all), but apart from this feature film's only real problem of the 'fingernails-on-chalkboard' screeching of the original Japanese voice actors, this movie does not fail to deliver: It hooks you right away and reels you all the way in from the opening scene to the emotionally charged climatic ending. Don't push past this one.

* * *

5-0 out of 5 stars Gall Force : Eternal Classic

4-0 out of 5 stars Misao stars in this volume
This volume (6 of 8) ends with a touching story about Misao. Can their friendship survive once Sasami figures out what is going on? See how the perfect kids resolves this crisis.

Pretty Sammy is so cute, you might just eventually want to see all of these. ^_^

5-0 out of 5 stars good and funny
It has a good story and also funny at the last episode I never seen that twist coming.

5-0 out of 5 stars I laughed, I cried... I wanted more!
This tape marks a definate turn in the series... All those of you who thought Magical Project S had no depth, and was perpetually happy, should watch this. The tape starts with an episode to wrap up a cliffhanger, and ends with one of the more touching scenes in US-released Magical Girl anime. Anyone who's picked up and peeked at the back summary of the tape knows that this is when Sasami (and Misao) find out that Misa is just Misao's alter ego. What most people probably don't realize, is just how much this realization will affect and strain the two girls relationship. Honestly, episode 19 of Magical Project S (available on this tape), is probably one of my all-time favorite episodes. But maybe I'm just a sucker for a good plot twist. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo shows up for the conclusion
The series ends (volume 8 of 8) with a character that looks alot like Ryoko to (of course!) help out against the character that looks alot like Aeka (some things NEVER change! But at least there's no Tenchi around to fight over in this episode though.

The plot is filled in starts to really make sense after some missing information is revealed about just how the earth and this other world the Queen candidates came from are intertwined.

You'll have to get this to see exactly how the story ends.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Battle Athletes Victory series is great.
In this anime series we find Akari and her friends competing for the title of Cosmo Beauty. The Battle Athletes Victory series has lots of action, good character development, and a lot more depth than I taught from the title. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and I would recommend purchasing it or at least renting it. This review is for the entire Battle Athletes Victory series.

5-0 out of 5 stars The coolest conclusion to the coolest series ever.
Battle Atheletes Victory is one of the best, yet one of the least watched series in anime history. To top it off, it has the coolest ending ever. I am not going to ruin it for you, but let's just say it is riddled with surprises. It is often that a whole series can be seemed less memorable because of its rushed endings, but that's not the case here. I can't possibly hype more than this. Go out and buy the whole collection, now! ... Read more

Comparable to Beatles' Rubber Soul, Stone's Between the Buttons, and Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. ... Read more
