The story opens in the midst of a full-scale battle raging in the depths of outer space between two persistently warring races: the somewhat indescribable cyborg ''Paranoids'' and the all-female humanoid race called ''Solnoids'' (which raises the intriguing question of how they reproduce... but let's suspend logic for the moment). The Paranoid/Solnoid wars have been waging for centuries, and diplomats on both sides have grown weary of the never-ending battle and have entered into a secret covenant where they have mutually devised a risky plan which they hope will act as a buffer between the two feuding races and hopefully bring both sides to the table to begin suing for peace. But in order for this mission to be successful, their joint activities must operate covertly and be kept a closely guarded secret from everyone on both sides -- especially from the military arms of the two warring factions, each of whom would stop at nothing and spare no effort to recover the ''experimental project'' for ''their'' side to exploit. The details of this ''Top Secret'' diplomatic gambit are entrusted to a single Solnoid who's been dispatched as a secret agent to infiltrate the ranks of a ship's crew to insure that the objective proceeds successfully without a hitch. Forced to make the leap into lightspeed out of its surrounding blazing deathtrap, a sole Solnoid spaceship, the ''Star Leaf,'' has been targeted for the for the infiltration of both the Solnoid/Paranoid agent and the secret ''experiment.'' The Star Leaf's escape course is to a distant star system: Their destination is a 'new home world' -- a terra-formed planet moon the Solnoid have given the name ''Chaos.'' Chaos is the satellite companion to the planet ''Terra,'' which the Solnoid refer to as ''the planet that lives on its own'' (which raises another question of logic ... ''Why not just inhabit Terra from the very beginning?'' -- but again, let's try to overlook this notable flaw in the story). In their hasty attempt at escape from all of the senseless slaughter taking place around them, the crew of the Star Leaf must constantly deal with numerous emerging deadly threats, from pursuing warships, equipment malfunctions, the real possibility of mutually assured destruction, and the presence of a sinister looking alien life form which stalks the remaining crew throughout their space vessel. The surviving members of the Star Leaf's crew must also try to understand the meaning and significance of a bizarre precognitive dream they all share involving a mysterious Solnoid-like alien creature which could either be a Paranoid brainwashing and mind-controlling ploy or the key to ending the hostilities between the Paranoid and Solnoid races. The moon Chaos becomes the final battleground in the Paranoid/Solnoid war as deception, treachery, and the lust for power and military advantage overtake reason, diplomacy and visions of unconditional peace. Much more enjoyable in the 'English dubbed' version (which is something of a rare experience in anime DVDs), ''Gall Force: Eternal Story'' often catches you off your guard with where you think the story is going to take you and, in a manner much like in the ''SCREAM'' movies, messes with your head as it relates to who lives, who dies, and who the ''bad guys'' are. A bit more attention to detail could (should) have been paid to the animation itself, in my opinion, and a few things about the story could have been smoothed out as well (but hey... this IS ''Japanese Animation,'' after all), but apart from this feature film's only real problem of the 'fingernails-on-chalkboard' screeching of the original Japanese voice actors, this movie does not fail to deliver: It hooks you right away and reels you all the way in from the opening scene to the emotionally charged climatic ending. Don't push past this one. * * *

This is one of the best anime series projecting beautiful, sexy women in a non-degrading way. The Knight Sabers leader (Dr. Stingray) is a super-genius who designed (and keeps improving) the hard suits which are the only thing that can defeat Genom's android fighting units. Anime pinup idol Priss, the toughest one, is as daring on a motorcycle as she is beautiful. Linna is a great athlete while Nene is a computer hacker. Inter-personal relationships between these 4 are done really well. There are lots of fighting scenes for those into that, but the story is really about the state of society (a possible future for us) and why the girls put their buts on the line and try to change what they can. The music is like what MTV used to play, back when they actually played music videos. Those really into this (Or fans needing to see more of the Knight Sabers in action) will love the "Hurricane Live" bonus DVD. Kind of nostalgic, but not obnoxious as some 80's revival stuff tends to be. Overall this MegaSeries is a great value with all 8 "OAV" episodes in this box set. The animation is a bit dated compared with more recent releases, but the story line is still better than most recent releases. Anime doesn't get much better than this. A must for "best of class" collectors. (Word on the 'net is that this OAV series is superior to later derivatives).
The series, inspired by Blade Runner and itself a tremendous influence on following anime, is full of fast-paced action and incredible music. This DVD provides anime newcomers with an excellent introduction to the world of anime.

This is volume 1 of 8 The story starts out with an ordinary, but very cute girl, Sasami who is blessed with perfect parents. Somehow as the perfect kid, fate has her selected to represent a candidate queen from an alien world in a magical competition. She gets magical powers and a cabbit (cat-bunny like creature) to assist her. This first volume tells the story of how Sasami comes to reluctantly accept her role as a magical girl. It also introduces her rival (representing the alternate queen candidate) Pixy Misa. The second episode has a hilarious "music video" segment with the Pixy Misa song. In a way it's a spoof of the Sailor Moon magical girl series, but it has a special sweetness that lets it stand out on its own. Those who don't like things "too cute" should stay away from this one. Everyone else should like it. Pretty Sammy fanatics know that 4 different instances of this series exist. Pretty Sammy originated in a follow-up to the Tenchi Muyo OVA called the "Mihoshi Special" and later re appeared in one of the fantasy within a fantasy episodes of the Tenchi Universe Series. Next came the OVA, and later this Magical Project S TV series followed. Pretty Sammy is so cute, you might just eventually want to see all of these. ^_^
You MIGHT be expecting a Tenchi muyo Run off with pretty sammy and all the characters fighting. like.. the magical girl pretty sammy vidoes. But they seem almost like diffrent charcaters alltogether. For one thing there is no TENCHI!!! Ryoko or ayeka. But it would be a great series if you never even heard of tenchi muyo. Since it is very funny. And also very cute.. plus they like to make fun of themselves alot. also funny That sasami never wants to turn into pretty sammy cause Her clothes look really bad. She looks exactly the same. but no one seems to notice shes not sasami. (sasami is also wondering about that). But if youve seen Sailor moon. Its mostly a childish spoof of that. (when I say childish I dont mean its for kids, although it could be a adult would like this movie alot too). Pretty much like sailor moon. A evil magic girl Raising monsters and sasami beats them up. Although the evil magical girl (pixie misa) is Laugh out loud funny. I HIGHLY reccommend you should get this video to see what this series is all about. You shouldnt do what I do (I buy every video in the set so I dont have to wait for them to be delieverd at diffrent times), Because this might be a tad bit too childish for the more mature veiwers out there. If your looking for the Tenchi muyo type feel You shouldnt look here. but if your looking for the same animation And laugh-out-loud funniness you should check this out.
Kids would enjoy this video, lots of humor, silly monsters instead of the usual frightning, action, and intresting characters, but keep in mind it's subtitled so if your child can't read at a fairly quick pace, this video isn't for you (unless you want to explain what's happening. It's a very visual series so it shouldn't be too hard to let kids know the gist). Lots of refrences to other magical girl shows (such as Sailor Moon) and tounge-in-cheek humor I found it very entertaining. This is a spin-off of the Tenchi universe, so if you like this, you might want to watch some of the many other Tenchi Muyo series. Be aware, they are a little more mature than Magical Project S. ... After reluctantly accepting her role as the Queens champion, Pretty Sammy begins to see some advantages to her unique situation. People see her as someone to cheer for and she is nearing idol status. Her parents realize this and setup a Pretty Sammy concert to bail out their music store. Will they ever realize that Sammy is someone really close to them? Washu shows up in this volume too. Will she be different from her Tenchi roles and everyone else has been? Pretty Sammy fanatics know that 4 different instances of this series exist. The Sol Bianca and her crew have been raiding the pirate ships of Emporor Batros (typical space-anime name). In one of the raids, they find a small boy who has to get to one of the planets he rules to find his mother. He promises them that the emporor holds a treasure that has the secret of the human race as well as gold, jewels and cash. They jump at the situation. The emporor wants the Sol Bianca because it has a technology to go into subspace without a need for a hypergate, so the battle begins. If you are looking for the adult version of POWERPUFF Girls, try this one out. However, I do not think it is worth the money to buy it. Rating: C
The music ranges from unremarkable to cheesy, mostly showing up only in the fight scenes. You'll probably never even notice that it has music, and skipping it would detract little from the movie. One of my favorite parts of the movie is the characterization of the pirates. They are definitely self interested pirates, far more interested in plundering space lines than saving the world. While not particularly ruthless (they don't kill too many people in their raids,) they are most definitely pirates, and only heroic in comparison to truly evil people. For example they are more than happy to threaten Rim with spacing out the airlock if he doesn't volunteer more information about his presence on their ship. The quarrel and argue in a very convincing (if occasionally overly cute) way, they manage to fall somewhere between Errol Flynn's "Robin Hood" and Long John Silver. I'm curious about the name of their ship: "Sol Bianca." The planet names are Spanish (Tres: Three, Uno: One,) so the ship name could also be Spanish, but I can't find a meaning for "Bianca" in any language, other than it being a girl's name. If you spell it "Sol Blanco," it translates as "White Sun," which is not only appropriate for a white ship, but a cool name in any case.
At first glance I thought those girls would be ruthless and cold blooded. Those characters are somehow charmy, tough but not heartless, and not as tough as the character Taarna in "Heavy Metal" the movie. The story is simple, not a deep drama as you may see in "Ninja Scroll" or "Wings of Honneamise", but it is entertaining. The story quality in my opinion is far superior when compared with the commercial-common-place story of "Street Fighter II". The animation work is impressive, a clean style is used, tech designs are very tasty. There is some action and background music is not widely used. One of my concerns was the level of violence contained because there is a legend on the cassette "Contains graphic violence, brief nudity and mature language". I must say that this movie has a couple of short violent moments. About nudity... well, I think "Sailor moon" has more nudity. Perhaps this warning is refered to the previews included before the motion picture. And there is mature language. The subtitled in english version includes a bonus video portfolio where the sketches used for this movie are shown. All in all, this is a nice and entertaining action anime with beautiful girls and stunning animations. If don't go for the drama this is an almost-must-have. ... Read more

Remember back in the first volume when there were three candidates for Queen? Well, candidate #3 is back and she looks alot like Aeka. Will she behave like Aeka? Can Pretty Sammy handle two opponents now? Pretty Sammy fanatics know that 4 different instances of this series exist. Pretty Sammy originated in a follow-up to the Tenchi Muyo OVA called the "Mihoshi Special" and later re appeared in one of the fantasy within a fantasy episodes of the Tenchi Universe Series. Next came the OVA, and finally this Magical Project S TV series. Pretty Sammy is so cute, you might just eventually want to see all of these. ^_^

As expected, there were no surprises with the audio on this disc. The stereo soundtrack sounds clean and clear throughout on the Japanese side and some spot checking on the English track didn't reveal anything odd there. The majority of the dialogue and sounds end up coming through my center channel, but there is one sequence where there is a great throw to the rear speakers that really surprised me. A solid disc in the audio department. The final cover to the series is definitely a great one, with Tomoe Midoh gracing it. This series has been fortunate in having some great artwork to draw from the Japanese releases and have produced some very eyecatching (if not spoilerish) covers. The back contains the usual amount of good and useful information as well as a listing of all the episodes on the disc and their episode number. Definitely the way TV series discs should be done. The only downside to this release, other than the lack of openings and endings, is the menu system that is just very sluggish on anything other than a really good DVD-ROM drive. The language selection is very good though in that it leaves the selected options in a different color so you know exactly what you're going to end up with. Otherwise, this menu is pretty much identicle to the previous releases. This final disc is very hard to review in terms of content, as practically everything about it is a spoiler based on the last disc. Since it contains the last four episodes, there's more oppurtunity to clean up the outstanding minor plots in addition to the one glaring big plot as revealed in volume seven. There's a lot of truly great writing and moments in this disc. This is one of those series that you hope keeps up the same pace it started with and never stops. All eight volumes are a treasure and contain some of the tightest anime writing and plotting that's up there with Vision of Escaflowne and Neon Genesis Evangelion. The characters are all very fleshed out and in these final episodes, what has gone before isn't betrayed at all, but rather built upon and provides some truly great moments from just about every character. Fans of the first seven volumes will be amazed by what transpires within. It's been a wild ride and I'm sad to see it's over. Battle Athletes Victory is a world I'm definitely going to revisit many times in the years to come. ... Read more
