1-0 out of 5 stars For fans eyes only
The movie was worse than I expected... Bad video, bad acting, bad special effects were all at a level I was expecting, but it is difficulty to beleive that they required 3 screenplay writers to screw-up an ok sci-fi book (at least for a book written early 60s). If you haven't read the Perry Rhodan series please don't waste your money. But if you read a few of them (maybe thousands) you know you will have to check it out one day. Do it now while you still have a vcr because I don't think this movie will make it to DVD.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you like really bad European Cinema then....
A quirky european film from the psychodelic era that is even worse than Barbarella. The juxtaposition of theme, mood, bad music, and, low- budget production values make it laughable. The only good thing about this film is ESSY PERSSON in those outragous costumes! This movie is so bad that it elevates the work of Dino De Laurentiis to the level of mediocraty. Remember what he did with "Flash Gordon"? Could have been better if Radley Metzger directed this film.

3-0 out of 5 stars I miss shunned stardust
Unusual film. Hard to think it was made at the same time as 2001: A Space Odessy. Still, it is, at moments, entertaining. Essy Persson's nose looks larger than usual, but she remains cold and fetching. The special effects are (of course) usually laughible. The picture was taken from the popular comic "Perry Rhodan" of the day, not unlike Bava's "Diabolik" (taken from the French comic of the same name) made the previous year. "Mission Stardust" retains the same comic book-logic and ludicrous plot-lines which are the foundation of any great comic. To say the picture drags in places is an understatement, but, if you are in the mood, it is definitely worth a watch. Dig the colorful credits and title song "Seli".

1-0 out of 5 stars Likeable sexploitation
If you like Essy Persson, you will do fine with this movie. If not, you won't find it amusing enough for bad cinema night. Essy is surrounded by unattractive males, awful sets, and unacceptable, (even for its era), special effects. This of course makes her look even better, but that is about the only likeable quality of this film. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Billy Blanks is very physical - don't like his haircuts
Back in Action is a lot of physical action - which is great if you are looking for that kind of film. Billy and Roddy look good beating people up - and they make a good duo. Always hoping for something more emotional - like - Billy risks life to fight international martial arts expert to save mom from cancer...Billy is very talented in a pow - martial arts way - I just can't get into his haircuts - but having said that - the guy can jump higher in the air than most anybody -

4-0 out of 5 stars Billy Blanks makes an action movie and action movie
Billy Blanks is the man who keeps thousands maybe millions of people in great shape. Combining that with the fact that he is a seven time world karate champion and has been in twenty movies all together it is exciting to watch. I don't have much to say really except for BILLY BLANKS, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

Amazon.com essential video

The happy hysteria--or total insanity--that was Beatlemania isbrilliantly evoked in this charming, entertaining 1978 movie from directorRobert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump) and executiveproducer Steven Spielberg. It's February 1964. The Fab Four are making theirfirst trip to America, and four Jersey girls (plus a couple of reluctant boys)are determined to get face to face with them--at their hotel, at their historicappearance on Ed Sullivan's TV show, or otherwise. They do so with varyingdegrees of success, and in ways that are amusing and clever, as are thedepictions of the Beatles themselves (the real Fabs appear only in archivalfootage; in the film, their stand-ins are seen only from the back, from thewaist down, and so on). Best of all, the soundtrack is filled with actual Beatlemusic. This one's an unexpected treat. --Sam Graham ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Captures Beatlemania perfectly!
Two words about this movie: totally hilarious! I caught this flick on MuchMoreMusic (the VH-1 of Canada) on Saturday night. First I only saw the last third of the movie. I watched it, not completely grasping the plot, but yet I enjoyed it a lot. Then they played a repeat a couple hours later and I watched the whole thing.

Oh God, it just cracked me up completely. Especially Rosie, the chubby Paul-insane groupie. Every time when she heard (on the radio) that they were announcing to win free tickets, she would drop whatever she was doing and dash to the nearest phone ("I know the answer!!") to try to win.

Basically what the story is about is: a group of young people go on a road trip to NYC to try to meet the Beatles who are performing live on Ed Sullivan. They plot to sneak into the hotel the Beatles are actually staying at! Now who hasn't thought or hoped vaguely of doing this (for any favourite band) at one point?

They made the movie feel pretty real. They had actors playing Ed and the Fab Four themselves (not showing their faces though, obviously). And the fans shrieking and screaming throughout the movie: very real. I've seen on TV the real performance they did on Ed Sullivan's and I'll tell you, the screaming was there, throughout. They just couldn't contain themselves. Beatlemania.

I really recommend this movie to any Beatles fan but it can be enjoyed by almost anyone. I hope they release it on DVD sometime!

5-0 out of 5 stars essential Beatles
Great film for the 40th anniversary of Beatlemania. I'm a 1st generation Beatlemaniac and a collector of Beatle memorabilia. I was 11 in 1964 and remember with great fondness the initial fascination and fun of the Beatles. This film truly captures the manic beatlemania of the early days!. Magical! I have been waiting impatiently for this movie to be released on DVD because my VHS copy is beat up and not in very good shape. Another essential DVD movie to own is the Beatles 1st US visit and that film briefly shows a couple fans as they try work their way into the Plaza hotel just as these kids do! Beatles 4-Ever!

5-0 out of 5 stars I wanna review this movie
Everything about this movie is perfect. I especially like how they handle the "Beatle" situation. Unfortunately, no Beatles were used in the making of this film and yet they have got to create that sense of excitment that the real Beatles would cause. Very cleverly, they get around the problem and take the viewer on a fun, fast paced adventure. My only minor complaint is the actors voices they used for the Beatles didn't sound like the real thing. Sound more like the voices in Yellow Submarine and those were actors-not Beatles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Film to capture the feelings of the mania!
I adore this film! It really shows just how wild Beatlemania really was back then... "Rosie" was a riot who would dive out of cars in order to win a pair of Ed Sulliven Tickets! I could not stand Smirko though... I thought that he was really a moron! But I guess the film had to show both sides of the story...

"Pamela" was the lucky one to get into the Beatles room! I would have fainted too if I heard George unzip his pants! I wonder who in the world played the Beatles on that stage??? I hope that Warner Brothers comes out with a commentary to go with the DVD...

"Richard clout was also funny as the nerd who was just as big a beatle fan as Rosie... This is a wonderful way to see the mania first hand... I am going to go watch my VHS copy right now.. I just hope that it can hold out until September...

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Funny
Leonard Maltin called this "realistic rendition of a raucous event." I agree with this movie 100%. This movie is so funny as three girls try to get in to see the Beatles live on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964. The methods these girls try to see them is realistic that it is hilarious. I was born in the 1970s but this movie makes me feel I am there in 1964. This movie and Used Cars helped put Robert Zemeckis on the map. He would then go on to do the Back to The Fuutre movies, Forrest Gump, and Cast Away. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MY GIRL.
I love MY GIRL. It's about an 11-year-old tomboy named Vada, who is growing up in the 70s. She never met her mother because her mother died when she was born. Vada lives with her widowed father who owns a funeral parlor and the funeral parlor happens to be Vada's home, as well. Vada is obsessed with death because she sees dead people coming into her home every day. Her best friend is a boy named Tommy J. (Macaulay Culkin) who is allergic to just about anything you can think of. Vada is also in love with her school teacher. When Vada's father hires a cosmatologist to put makeup on the dead people (and ends up falling in love with her), Vada soon starts to learn the true meaning of life. This flick also stars Dan Aykroyd as Vada's father, Jamie Lee Curtis as Shelly, the woman Vada's father falls in love with, and newcomer Anna Chlumsky as Vada. This is a great coming-of-age story that is very moving and at the same time, enjoyable and entertaining. With an all-star cast and serpurb acting, MY GIRL is a great movie to watch anytime! I also recommend the sequel, MY GIRL 2, which is just as good. If not, better!

5-0 out of 5 stars My Top 10--Bittersweet Comedy
'My Girl,' is one of my top ten family comedy films since they've been making movies. It ranks as the most entertaining, heartwarming stories about coming-of-age and apply yourself parenthood. About a mannerly, awkward little guy named Thomas (Macaulay Culkin) becomes the object of 11 year-old Vada Sultenfuss' affections (Amy Chlumsky). Vada is distant from her father, Harry (Dan Aykroyd). Vada never knew her mother. Her mother died when she was born. So, naturally in such emotional surroundings, her dad runs a funeral home. She is obsessed with death. Things begin to see light when a make-up artist, Shelly Devoto (Jamie Lee Curtis) answers Harry's job want ad. She's one smart cookie who gets Harry to realize that life isn't just death...don't ignore the living..especially his daughter. Vada is very mature for her age and has a kind of wisdom for someone her age. There are some funny lines here and there. My favorite is Vada and Thomas walking home from school. Vada asks, "Why do you think people want to get married?" and Thomas replies "When you get old, you just have to". You can feel the emotion after Thomas is fatally stung by a hive of bees. It's easy for younger kids to view it, as it's geniusly pieced together to filter the aftershock. Vada must realize her best friend has gone, and her look at life and death had changed. She gives a lovely eulogy about, "The Weeping Willow....he left one day/Is it because he could not stay/He found shelter in your shade/...../ for there is something to calm your fears; / If you think death has ripped you forever apart / I know he'll always be in your heart." In the end, Harry and Shelby become capable parents for Vada. 'My Girl' is a bittersweet tale of growing up and single parents becoming a family again that the whole family will enjoy. It'll make you wanna cry and smile all at the same time. I got that title soundtrack song in my head by The Temptations that won't go away :), ASIN: B00000284Z. If you like this film you'll like it's sequel much more, 'My Girl 2.'

5-0 out of 5 stars No less than the best film to reach our screens...ever!
The fist time i watched this film i vowed i was going to change my name by depol to Veda Sultanfuss, get a bike with streamers, a boy as a best mate an make sure he didn't go near bee's. this film tackles a lot of really good issues from a childs perspective. Veda has the trauma of believing she is responsible for her mothers death to deal with, along with the fact her father (harry) pays more attention to his new girlfriend than her and then to top it all of her best mate pops his cloggs! i cry ever time i watch it even thogh i know every line, pause and song.
its funny, touching and a good sunday afternoon family film.
if i hadn't of grown up with this film i hate to think what kind of person i'd have turned out to be =D...x

3-0 out of 5 stars Jaded
Endless Love was an everyday love story about teenage love. Yet it was here that both lead actors got their big break. Well, we all know what happened to Brooke Shields. She now stars in her own sitcom, Suddenly Susan. As for David, who went on to pursue smaller roles, such as portraying a reverend-turned-werewolf in Steven King's Silver Bullet, you could say that things did not turn out to be quite as well for him. Overall, although both actors intended to shoot for the stars, their performance can best be described as, well,...jaded. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Movie of All Time
Pledge Night is truly a masterpiece that will be a sure classic many years from now. The movie presents an all-star cast with exceptional story writing. Excellent graphics !!! The scenes are very scary and Acid Sid probably won an Oscar for his great performance. No movie lover can do with out this treasured classic. Don't miss buying this one!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars lame ending
This movie was made in 1990, however the special effects look circa 1982. For all you metalheads out there note that Anthrax provides the soundtrack. And... Joey Belladonna (lead singer of Anthrax at the time) plays the killer in this movie for a short bit. The killer's name is Acid Bath Sid. Plot: Guys pledge a frat and during hell week a pledge who was accidentally murdered 20 years ago comes to seek his revenge!

1-0 out of 5 stars WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?
Typical horror flick with a bunch of frats and a couple of sorority sisters being the victims...all dispatched in typical "stylish" ways...via electrocution, egg beater down the mouth (!), one guy drowned by having his head shoved in the body of the killer (!), etc. etc. Of course, like all bad movies, the ending is vague enough so that if this turkey makes it, there will be a sequel! Have your remote ready to speed up the film just to get to the good parts.

1-0 out of 5 stars I'll try to save you
Don't even think about renting buying or touching this movie. It is probably the worst movie, any genre, of all time. Time spent watching this that i'll never get back. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Real Tearjerker.
I loved this film from start to finish. I just bought the DVD from Amazon and it played all the way through, no problem. I was a little worried when I ordered it because I read the other customer's reviews and had problems with the DVD being defective. I first saw this film in 1996 when I was 11 when I missed it on TV and I rented it from the video store. I liked the part where the Champ (Jon Voight) gave T.J. (Ricky Schroder) the horse and it touched my heart. The part in scene 17 where Annie (Faye Dunaway) reveals to T.J. that she is his mother is a little disturbing. There is a little foul language in it, but other than that it is a great film for the family.

When you watch this film, don't forget the Kleenex box and this is one of the films that really made me cry. I recommend this film to everyone!

10/10

5-0 out of 5 stars The one movie that still makes me cry
The Champ is an astounding motion picture directed by Franco Zeffirelli with outstanding performances by Jon Voight, Faye Dunaway and the unbelievably convincing Ricky Schroder.

The movie is the best intimate melodramatic tearjerker that I have ever seen. One view of this film will leave you with a lump in your throat and teary eyes, the next viewings will just leave you in plain tears. Yes, its that kind of movie that you'd see more than once and still feel engaged.

Jon Voight plays former boxer Billy Flynn who is down on his luck raising his son TJ, played by Schroder, alone after his wife, played by Dunaway, left him and the boy and went on to marry a millionaire after he falls out of his life of boxing, doctor's orders. The movie brings you close to the lives of all three of these characters, you feel their pain, their grief, and their emptiness. Billy has turned to drinking to escape the pain of not being able to return to boxing to support a family. TJ does not know his mother since she left him when he was still an infant, and still sees his deadbeat father as a hero, calling him 'champ'. Faye Dunaway's character can't seem to cope with the fact that her son has grown up believing she is dead and can only take him as a friend after bumping into him at a horserace, the horse that 'champ' bought him was competing in this race. The story begins to unfold when the three characters enter each other's lives again.

What's more beautiful about this movie is its musical score. The music is really another character in the film, and is quite breathtaking.

Highly Recommended

4-0 out of 5 stars I Haven't seen The Original But This Remake is Very Good
I haven't seen the original movie that starred Wallace Beery and Jackie Cooper but I saw this remake starring Jon Voight and Rick Schroder and I thought it was a very good movie with great acting from Jon Voight and a young Rick Schroder (Billed as Ricky Schroder back then). It is a tearjerker filled with some sad moments but it's such a good movie and I recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars defective DVD
Movie is excellent after I bought the DVD it would just play up to scene 14 and skip to the end..they replaced it and it was the same thing.. I finally had to go rent the movie and watch it...strong performance by both actors...movie is a ***** (five star) but not on DVD

5-0 out of 5 stars The Champ
There is only one other movie of this kind that can stand up to the test of time & that is Shane with Alan Ladd. There is no way to aptly describe either other than to see both of these fine videos. Ricky (Rick) did an outstanding job as he really didn't act, he lived the part. Everyone would love to have this boy as his or her child. All of the actors made this movie what it is---GREAT! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Highlander hit full stride here.
The TV series Highlander hit full stride here.

When Highlander arrived on TV, it started out with a good concept (taken from the first film, primarily), a real hero (Duncan - played with great self-assurance by Adrian Paul), but some bumps in the road that gave it a TV feel. This is evident in the first season, as the episodes are hit and miss, and the show wasn't operating on all cylinders until near the end of the season.

In the 2nd year, Highlander hit full stride, and with each successive episode, the series became more compelling. Many episodes from that year are excellent. The full Highlander team had to have known they had a winner, and the creative energy is high. These were the shows that solidified the fan base the show would ultimately have.

The 3rd season picked up right where the second took off, and by now Highlander was thriving, if in relative obscurity. The show had a level of synchronicity and often intensity, that made the very most of the concept. The actors (again, espeically Paul) the writers, and entire crew were obviously very inspired, as they turned out one excellent episode after another. Many of them masterfully interweaved.

The 4th season kept the pattern going. Adrien Paul, by now, WAS Duncan MacLeod - The Highlander. And the Highlander team continued with exploring characters, and changes. While the concept was limited (who will Duncan meet from his past this week?) because of what the cast and crew had working together - the show continued on putting out either excellent, or good shows, with the only flaw being the previously mentioned predictability.

The 5th season found the writers trying to vary the previous season's problems. With many espisodes Duncan more reserved, and sometimes mystical elements involved (which turned some fans off). But the professionalism continued.

By the 6th season, the show was hit and miss, and it seemed at times like it was soon to reach the end (which it did). The final episide was somewhat sentimental, but at the same time, fittingly obscure.

Highlander - Raven continued with the charming character of Amanda. But without Paul, the series didn't have the same backbone, and ultimately waned.

Adrian Paul would later reprise the Duncan MacLeod role in the film Highlander: Endgame, which is the best sequel as the films go (and on par with many TV episodes), but alas, the film did not fair well at the box office, as the previous sequels (2, and 3) were so bad, the mainstream stayed away. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars VISTA SERIES DVD well worth the wait!! Fabulous fun!
"Who Framed Roger Rabbit" was a huge hit when it was released in 1988 and made Bob Hoskins a star. It successfully combined live action with animation and featured a strong and funny cast of characters and an entertaining storyline.

To best describe this film to the uninitiated would probably require a comparison with "L.A. Confidential" (with PG-friendly/cartoon violence) and a Looney Tunes movie. It is fun, boisterous and entertaining with memorable performances by Bob Hoskins (as Eddie Valiant), Christopher Lloyd (as Judge Doom), Roger Rabbit (as himself) and that sultry scene-stealer Jessica Rabbit (as herself and voiced by Kathleen Turner). A veritable who's who in animation, this film features cameos by Mickey & Minnie Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam, Daffy Duck, Goofy and Betty Boop, to name a few.

The VISTA SERIES is especially impressive given the many, many special features that are included. The packaging alone - with a case that looks like a detective's portfolio/folder - is a treat. Add to that the following:

1) Audio commentary by the filmmakers led by director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump)
2) Facts and trivia
3) "The Pig Head Sequence" deleted scene
4) "Before and After" split-screen comparisons
5) 2 behind-the-scenes documentaries, including an new, exclusive in-depth featurette
6) A DVD game
7) 3 animated shorts
and more!!

The film itself is well worth the price of the DVD. Add to that the wealth of special features and this promises to be one of the best DVDs of the year. Animation, action/adventure and comedy fans will find this a special treat and I highly recommend this family-friendly (PG) film to everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars "Thanks! I needed that!"
This DVD set is sure to please anyone who enjoyed the ambitious, innovative and hilarious movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit. In 1988, Roger Rabbit earned several Oscars, combined animation with live action, made British actor Bob Hoskins a star and featured cameos from dozens of Disney, Warner Bros, MGM and Universal cartoon stars. Director Robert Zemeckis would also direct the Back to the Future series.

The story takes place in 1947 and it all begins with the lovable goofball Roger Rabbit (voiced by Charles Fleischer) co-starring with the cute but not-so-innocent Baby Herman (offstage, Herman is a whiney, scowling cigar smoking midget) in What's Cookin'. It's not long before Roger is under investigation by hapless no-nonsense detective Eddie Valiant (Hoskins). Marvin Acme (Stubby Kaye), owner of Toontown, has been murdered. Judge Doom (Back to the Future and Taxi's Christopher Lloyd) and his pack of scheming weasels suspect Roger is the culprit, particularly after Acme plays a game of patty-cake with Roger's sultry wife, Jessica (Kathleen Turner). Jessica's defense: "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way!" Roger, Jessica and Valiant do their best to prove Roger's innocence and save the fate of Toontown. Benny the wisecrackin' Cab is there to help Valiant get to the bottom of it all. Cameos include Daffy and Donald Duck, Bugs Bunny (voiced by the late Mel Blanc), Yosemite Sam, Mickey Mouse, Tweety, Droopy Dog, Betty Boop (with the original voice of Mae Questel) and many others. The musical score is composed by Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump, Lilo and Stitch).

Now for the extras. There is a spoken commentary as well as a "pop-up video" style commentary on the picture, outtakes including the "pig head" sequence, information on before/after animation, a DVD game Trouble in Toontown, options of widescreen and fullscreen, and (if you're bi-lingual) dubbed in versions in French and Spanish.

Finally, it includes 3 Roger Rabbit short films, including Tummy Trouble (where Baby Herman swallows everything), Rollercoaster Rabbit (where Roger babysits Herman in an amusement park; my favourite of the 3) and Trail Mix-Up (where Roger takes Herman camping around Yellowstone Park; watch for Jessica's cameos in all of these!).

Give yourself a week or 2 to enjoy the movie and all the extras! Enjoy the ride and leave the driving to Benny, your faithful tourgide!

5-0 out of 5 stars Tonsa 'toon fun!

I was 10 when "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" came out and it is just as much fun to watch now, maybe funnier because I missed some of the humor back then. Roger's a riot and his wife, Jessica Rabbit ("I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way"), is truly a toon vixen. Bob Hoskin's Eddie Valiant is sent to find out the truth when the owner of Toon Town is murdered after playing patty-cake (literally) with Jessica. Everyone assumes a jealous Roger did it and that washed-up detective Eddie can't hack it anymore. There is lots of subtle humor, like when Eddie asks for a scotch on the rocks in a 'toon bar and instead of ice he gets actual rocks. Eddie seriously hates Toon Town because his brother had a piano dropped on his head, but he eventually becomes pals with Roger, overcomes his hatred of Toon Town and clears Roger's name. Christopher Lloyd's Judge Doom is perfectly creepy and his squad of weasels are funny as they try to stop Eddie and Roger from discovering the truth.

The interaction between the live actors and the toons is seamless, probably why the movie won four Oscars. The behind the scenes features and commentaries are great, the entire 2-disc set is incredibly well-thought out and packaged, making it a must-have for the fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars A worthy dvd for one of the greatest movies ever.
When Roger Rabbitt came out, I was probably too young to ever know what it was. I am sure I saw it many times as a kid, but never saw it as the genius piece of filmmaking that it is. This movie is brilliant in every way, and with the release of the Vista Series DVD I have been reacquainted with it. I am 20 years old now and this is one of my top 5 favorite movies. That is the great thing about this movie, that all ages can enjoy something that this has to offer whether it be the animation sequences or just the fun storyline. I love both.

Here is the story. Someone has killed Marvin Acme, owner of ToonTown and Roger takes the heat for it. Of course he was framed but by who and why? Roger seeks the help of Eddie Valiant, a once prominant detective that fell into hard times after his brother was killed by a toon. Thus was his reluctance to help Roger since he was a toon. But he does help Roger, and he must get to the bottom of the mystery before Judge Doom finds and kills Roger by "dipping him". Eddie feels sorry for the rabbit so he investigates before it is too late, and along the way he discovers more and more about why Acme was killed and that ToonTown itself is in danger. Oh yeah, and Roger was the perfect one to frame because his wife Jessica Rabbit had been seen meeting with Acme before he died. So most people probably know the plot already, but if not it is highly original and entertaining.

This masterpiece couldn't get any better treatment than this, a fully loaded 2 disc set sporting both a family-friendly version on disc 1 and enthusiast version on disc 2. There are so many extras that it will take you a long time to see everything. I admittedly have just begun to see the treasures contained within. But it is obvious that the utmost care was taken to give this the fair dvd treatment it deserved--mission accomplished. This is probably my third favorite movie of all-time, and is without a doubt the best mix of live action and animation. So many great characters appear in this movie such as Bugs and Daffy in the scene where Eddie is falling and they hand him an anvil instead of a 'chute. It is sheer movie magic, and something I could watch all the time and never get tired of seeing it. Director Zimeckis has done a remarkable job with this film, and we also great great performances from Bob Hoskins (Eddie Valiant), Christopher Lloyd (Judge doom) and pretty much everyone else appearing in the film with the addition of the voices of Roger and Jessica who were terrific. To me this is a perfect movie so if you havent seen it before rent it, and if you like it then buy it. If you are a fan then you must own this dvd. It is truly a great thing and this dvd set presents it in all of its glory, the way it should be done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Animation
If you love classical (2D) animation, get this masterpiece. What's more, the master (and director) of animation himself, Richard Williams gets to say a few things too in this Vista-Series edition (that was a very pleasant surprise). Seriously though, I've never in my life seen such mind-blowing animation. I must have seen this film hundreds of times and till today, there is nothing comparable, no "Space Jam" or "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" (even with Eric Goldberg as animation director) comes anywhere near Roger Rabbit. We have to thank genius Richard Williams and his very talented team for this.

Do to the fact that 2D animation doesn't seem to generate much interest these days, it's very unlikely that Disney will ever complete Richard Williams' other masterpiece "The Thief and the Cobbler" properly (there is a butchered version out there from Miramax, with very poor animation next to Williams' brilliant sequences). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Highlander the Series Season 1
Highlander the Series, Season 1 is not as flashy as later seasons, but the story line is good, the shows are well done, enjoyable and give you a solid base for Highlander lore.
It explains, much of the story of his love of Tess, how Richie came to be his student and immortal, as well as gives you a good bit of his own history.
The Quickenings are not as brillant as they are in later years, but if you are a Highlander fan it is definetly worth the effort to go ahead and buy the series

5-0 out of 5 stars Hardcore Highlander Fan
I own all of the Highlander movies, as well as all of the Highlander: The Series 1-6. I don't think there was ever a better series on T.V. Not only is Adrian Paul fantastic to look at, the theme and messages were very well thought out. Since it appealed to a young(er) audience (& yes there was violence) but it taught overcoming adversity, fighting for what you believe in, and that doing the right thing is important (especially when you live forever) it spans all emotions: humor, love, sadness, tragedy and more, all of the things that make up LIFE. I highly recommend all of the series, start with the first and keep going til the end, it is better than any series on T.V. today.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quite good
People don't believe me when I say that the TV serious had many episodes that are better than the films, but it's true. This series was very creative, and thrived in relative obscurity.

I tend to divide the Highlander fans up into two groups:

1) The true, hard core fans. They love the first Highlander film, and admit that the sequels are flawed, but none the less, like them too. They find Christopher Lambert's character more dangerous, practical, than Adrien Paul's.

2) Fans who think Highlander is an interesting idea, and are open to the concept however presented, as long as it was well written. (I fall into this category myself.) They the first film fascinating. Though if you know the concept, it seems to drag. The sequels all [are bad]. 2 is terrible, 3 is bad, and 4 a tad better, but too much like 1 and 3. But...

When they watch the TV series, they find the concept thrives. While the story repeats itself, the characters in the TV series are varied, and strong. And Adrian Paul, Jim Byrnes and the rest of the cast brought a certain charm to the concept. And the writing is quite excellent for television.

This set is for Season 1, when the show was just getting into it's routes. There are some bumps in the road, and the bad guys often not complex enough. But it's a very good start to the series.

My opinon, Seasons 2 & 3 were strongest, with many, many winners, and many interweaving plot lines. Season 4 is quite good. With 5 getting a little tired and often strange. And 6 the tank running empty, with a somewhat confusing (which is actually good) finale.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first movie, but still worthwhile.
For those of us whose ears are still ringing with that phrase from the first Highlander movie "there can be only one," we often wonder why there are so many sequels, not to mention this TV spin-off. The answer is simple: money.
Part of the intrigue of the first movie was that all-encompassing, somewhat mysterious storyline, and we assumed that Connor McLeod was the only surviving immortal. Apparently, he didn't know there were still so many others lurking around! Still, though, if you can get past that obvious (gaping) hole in the story, the sequels (not counting the 2nd one, which was pure crap) and the series are cool additions that expand on the universe of the immortals.
This series follows the life of Duncan McLeod, clansman of Connor. They have known each other for centuries, and Duncan was trained by his kinsman. The first episode features a guest spot by Christopher Lambert, and elaborates a lot on the story. Most of the rest of the episodes follow Duncan's exploits and flashbacks that lead him to many adventures.
Though this series is definitely not for everyone, the die-hard Highlander fans who remained unfulfilled by the story in the first movie will be greatly gratified by these additions. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Good story but poor production.
I like movies about airplanes and because of that I have several of these movies and one of those is this one.
The cover and the tittle of the movie make you think it's good but there's nothing good in it.
The story is interesting but what makes the movie very bad, is the poor, poor production. The set that it's supposed to be a Boeing 747 with 400 people looks like a very small plane (you'll only see inside the airplane like 25 people during the whole movie). The special effects are terrible, you'll see the airplane fyling but no with a close image and you'll see it like for 2 seconds. The airplane that they use changes from name and colors all the time, then when something good is going to happen they just change the image and put the sound so they wouldn't make a scenery for that scene. Anyway if you like a good movie, just don't get this one, you'll get bored because as I said. The story is interesting but the special effects are so bad that you'll get bored.
Finally I'd like to say that I don't understand how Kate Jackson (Charlie's angels) acepted to be in this low budget movie with all the success that she had in her career.

1-0 out of 5 stars total utter nonsense!!!!!!
this is pure drivel!!!!!clearly there was some kind of argument behind this film;like the director wasnt given enough money to make it,so he thought, you know what,im going to spite the film company by making a hideousely awful film, that'll show them.the "plot",if i can re-tell it without vomiting,is thus:a plane is struck by lightning, and kills all the pilots..............i kind of lost what was going on after that......the ending,if there actually was one,was that whatever predicament they were in,they got out of.where can i begin?????clearly no one involved with this project has any knowledge of basic physics,as they'd have pointed out that this ISNT POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!im a little bit rusty on my physics, but isnt it called a faraday coil???if not then forgive me,my minds a little indestinct, but the main point is a bolt of lightning wont pass through a plane. "what about the glass,it passed through the glass window!!!" you bark smugly, well thick glass used for this wouldnt allow electric current to pass through it.think about it people, you ever been hit by lightning indoors??have you ever heard of this happening in real life before??NO,BECAUSE IT CANT!!!!!! well done, you're learning.anyway, enough of the banter, the film struggles from then on in.for some bizzare reason the plane operated by a laptop, the cable(??!!) for which has broken.it only works by some guy holding it with venom.factor into this some wierd pregnant woman type nonsense, some shouting passengers/helpful people arguing rubbish,a hint of romance between a "criminal" and a "female human being",and you have this godawful tripe of a film.some wonderfully hilarious moments.guy says "i skipped bail","are you a criminal?" she asks!!!!!! well of course he is you stupid fool,he just told you!!!! any time there was "turbulence" the camera was wobbled about a bit,and the "actors" moved around unconvincingly.the terrible news report segments, where hilarity prevailed every time.the bit when the dog jumped out the car, that was brilliant!!!!he pushed it over a bit then it was half dead...then later he gave the oxygen mask, great!!!!! all the scenes involving the radar room, they were something else!!!!the ending also, the rubbish CGI aeroplane, what a laugh!!!!i could go on and on and on,pointing out rubbish but funny things about this film, but i think ive said enough.in short, dont come to watch this if you want a coherent engaging film.but if you enjoy laughing through mind-bogglingly bad trash, then this is definately for you!!!! i laughed nearly all the way through it,so at least it was entertaining.1 out of 5.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do Not Expect Too Much
You may enjoy this movie, if you know nothing about the airplane, or if you are extremely weak for machinery.
This movie has no reality from the beginning to the end.
Plot is poor.
I do not recommend this.

2-0 out of 5 stars What could have been good went downhill from the start!
While films about airplane disasters and hijackings have gotten more and more unpopular, this is probably a good example of why. When I saw the ad for this on TV, I thought "oh cool, lightning strikes a plane... must be some interesting story"... WRONG! The film is not at all believable. The outside shots of the plane differ throughout the movie.. I think I counted 3 different styles. A laptop controlling a 747? A wire hanging through the cabin after the lightning forces the plane to react violently?

I'm a fan of the Airport films, and I liked recent ones like Executive Decision, the first Turbulence movie, and a few others in this genre. But this film was a big disappointment. Kate Jackson's performance was credible, but the remaining cast was pretty terrible. There's too many plotholes and credibility faults to recommend this film. If you want a good air-scare film, check out one of the Airport films or one of the ones I mentioned.

I give this film 2 stars because, while it did have too many faults and isn't really worth watching when there are other films to choose from, the film had it's few moments of holding my attention.

Check out another air disaster movie if you want to have an enjoyable experience!

5-0 out of 5 stars double trouble
Royce Air International, flight 115 to London Heathrow is in trouble.A lighting strikes the cockpit during take off causing an electral fire which kills the pilot[Fred Henderson]and the rest of the flight crew.Laurie Ann[Kate Jackson]is forced to help the pasengers as she and Brett Young[Ed Marinano]race to engage the auto pilot. But when the aircraft starts to head west, the plane begins to lose fuel fast. On the ground the athorities must choose to shoot the plane down over a deserted area or try to find a solution before the plane crashes in a populated city causing 1,000 more deaths. With no radio contact can they save the 747-300 from disaster? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sam in black .
This is the best episode of the first season . This was the first success of the brand new series in touching my heart , in helping to understand how is it to walk in someone else's shoes , and especially , in a black man's shoes . As for the story itself , Sam leaps into a black man in the early Sixties and refuses to suffer from the discrimination and segregation blacks endured on those days .

This is one of the best plotted , directed , acted and remembered Quantom Leap's episode of all time...

4-0 out of 5 stars the ups and downs of an itinerant family
Set in the 1920s and about a family of Irish itinerant sheepherders, this film has panoramic views of Australia (cinematography by Jack Hildyard), a good script, and a diverse and interesting cast; the sheep also are terrific, and there are many glimpses of kangaroos, koalas and more, all set to an upbeat score by Dimitri Tiomkin. The film also shows the backbreaking labor of shearing the sheep, and the hard life and hard drinking of the people who do it.
It has its share of drama, poignancy, and humor, the latter usually thanks to Peter Ustinov, who puts in another memorable performance as a British wanderer who is always able to extricate himself from romantic entanglements.
Deborah Kerr shines as Ida, the tough but sensitive wife who stands by her man through thick and thin (mostly thin). Robert Mitchum is good as her irresponsible husband, as is Michael Anderson Jr. as their son, and Glynis Johns adds her irrepressible charm as a pub owner.

Though not quite on the level of director Fred Zinnemann's best work (like "High Noon", "A Man for all Seasons", and "Day of the Jackal"), it still has his masterful touch, and is a fine film, well worth viewing.
It was nominated for Best Actress, Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, and Supporting Actress (Johns), losing out to Elizabeth Taylor in the first category, and "The Apartment" and "Elmer Gantry" in the rest.
"The Sundowners" is solid entertainment from one of the great directors of the 20th century, and total running time is 133 minutes.

2-0 out of 5 stars sucks
Robert Mitchum`s aussie accent in this movie is not very believable.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ever Lovin' Aussie
This movie does a great job of profiling the lives and loves of the bushman. It should be preserved in DVD.

The Sundowners clearly shows how love fits in with the Aussie's love of freedom and adventure. Hard work doesn't take anything away from their sense of humor. The land is unforgiving with its fires and droughts; and the hardships created by traveling from shed to shed are mittigated by good kinship. They love gambling and would take bets on whether or not the sun will rise the next morning if they have enough "spirits" in them. All nicely demonstrated in the movie. Their accents believeable and the music in the background is a treat!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and life affirming
Some films and some books just make you glad to be alive, for me The Sundowners is a lovely, life-affirming experience, beautifully acted, warmly funny and intelligent.

Everytime I see this film, the temptation to join the Carmodys is irresistible. This is not a sentimental story, but the film has a genuine warmth and exuberance as well as a young boy on the point of making his own life, working out the path he wishes to follow.

There is great love and deep affection shared by the Carmody family, a bond which is one of the few fixed points in their wandering life. This love is not saccherine romance but realistic emotion; it is not always easy, it does not prevent anger, exasperation and pain, but at the end of things their family genuinely cares for each other.

Sundowners is a film full of sunlight.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frist Rate film for Mitchum fans
The Sundoners is probley one of Mitchum's finer performences he's probley the most under rated actor of his time. Gives a solid performance as a roving Australin sheep herder who in his own robost way tries his best to be husband an father, Deborah Kerr is excellant as the wife who binds the family together who hopes somday there roving life style will end, so they as a family can have a home to settle. This film has a litle bit of everything comic relif, drama an action with good solid back up performances of Peter Ustinov, Glynnis Johns. Again if your a Mitchum fan then buy this video,an watch an actor who style owns every scene he's in.Thank you N. Skyles ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One Good Episode and One Great One That is a Classic!
Cheers was and is a good sitcom and one I fondly recall watching in the 80s as a teenager with my mother and father. This tape has two good episodes but my favorite is The Homicidal Ham which is hilariously funny and is the one where Andy the ex-convict and Diane act in a stage production of William Shakesphere's Othello and he falls in love with Diane not knowing that she and Sam are dating so when Andy finds out about Sam and Diane he completely loses it during the Othello murder scene which has got to be one of the best classic moments of Cheers or of any TV show period. The other episode They Call Me Mayday is good and has Sam writing his memoirs but I like The Homicidal Ham better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheers-Volume 4
I personally am an avid fan of cheers.I Think these Episodes were some of the best in the second season. The humor in "homocidal ham" sort of represented that of cheers.I give Volume four of cheers a 5, for it's overall humor, and quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny!
Cheers is a good show, one of my favorite episodes is The Homicidal Ham, Derek McGrath who played Andy was great in that famous Othello murder scene with Shelley Long (Diane)! Very funny episode! Fans of Derek McGrath may be interested to know that he is in the TV show Doc.

5-0 out of 5 stars The return of Andy Andy and Sam writes his memoirs
This fourth volume in the Cheers collection presents a couple of choice episodes from the show's second season. In "Homicidal Ham" Andy Schroeder (Derek McGrath) the ex-convict who was "Diane's Perfect Date" in the first season when he was known as Andy Andy, returns to rob the bar so he can go back to prison. Diane tries to help Andy launch his acting career and arranges a tryout for a drama professor (Severn Darden). Andy falls in love with Diane, not knowing that she and Sam are an item. When he learns the truth, performing the murder scene from Othello looks like a big mistake. "Homicidal Ham" (Original Airdate: 10/27/83) was written by David Lloyd, directed by James Burrows, and is episode #26 for those keeping count.

"They Call Me Mayday" (Original Airdate: 12/01/83) has Sam writing his autobiography after Dick Cavett walks into Cheers and suggests the idea. Everyone is happy with the idea except, of course, Diane, who is understandable jealous, but who ends up helping him, uh, punch up the sex scenes. Meanwhile, Norm has had to spend the night at Cheers because Vera has kicked him out. The big guy is upset that his old high school buddy Wally Bodell (Walter Olkewicz) has been putting the moves on Vera and finally takes matters into his own hands (literally). "They Call Me Mayday" was written by David Angell, directed by James Burrows, and is episode #31 in the series. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highlander -Season 1(Sea Witch/Revenge is Sweet)
I heartily recommend this video as either a entry into the special magic of Highlander or a must see for Highlander collectors. "The Sea Witch will give you my favorite part of Highlander, the historically accurate flashbacks. Adrian Paul has a gift for languages, and it shows. I like the vibe between him and the captain of the Sea Witch, it is delightfully sinister. "Revenge is Sweet" the second episode of this tape, hooked me and shaped me into a rabid Highlander fan many years ago. I was fascinated by Adrian Paul's agility and swordsmanship. 4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasing ghostly experience.
A picture-perfect modern-day romance that tells an exciting romantic story, "Ghost" is one of the best romantic films ever made. In it, we see just what lengths someone will go to for their love for someone else, and also shows us that the love we have for someone in our life goes on after death. Director Jerry Zucker, and acting by Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, all make this movie a landmark that everybody knows about.

What is so special about the story is the connection between the two romantic leads. Swayze plays Sam Wheat, who, with his longtime girlfriend Molly, is remodeling a penthouse apartment in New York, where they soon live together, completely happy and in love. We have no reason to question the love story angle because the direction and acting tell us from the very beginning the nature of their relationship, and does it in understandable terms. Sam also works for a major banking corporation, where he has a best friend Carl, who seems more than willing to take certain workloads off of Sam's shoulders. One night, Sam and Molly are set upon by a thief, who demands Sam's wallet, and after a struggle, Sam is left with a fatal gunshot wound. Of course, being dead, he is now a ghost, and must watch as Molly comes to the realization that her lover is dead.

The acting of these two actors is what makes all of this incredibly affecting, most especially Molly's coping with Sam's sudden exit from her life. She keeps his personal things, as well as any little scrap of paper or memory she can hold onto, with Sam watching all of this from behind her shoulder and Carl trying his best to comfort and console her. Sam soon pays a visit to a con artist medium named Otta Mae Brown, played by Whoopi Goldberg, who is the only person that Sam is able to talk to. The comedy of the movie really picks up as we are given scenes of Brown walking in the streets arguing with the air, talking to the walls, and having hissy fits with Sam in public. Goldberg is really given a chance to shine in this role, playing out some of her best lines and material ever.

Comedy then mixes with drama and action as the plot reveals that Carl was a mastermind behind a murder conspiracy. Carl is in desperate need of money, and when he found out that Sam was in charge of a four million dollar bank account, he hired a hitman to have Sam killed in order to try and take over the account and steal the money. As he further tries to worm his way into Molly's life, Sam becomes more and more determined to try and find a way of reaching her aside from giving Otta Mae instructions on what to say to her. Swayze is able to give us a powerhouse performance here, as his character sits back and can do nothing to physically protect his love. He feels weak, helpless, and these emotions are played out brilliantly.

The film won an Academy Award, one of two, for Best Original Screenplay for 1990. The script is a melting pot of many different elements: comedy that comes from the relationship of Otta Mae and Sam's collaboration, supernatural elements stemming from the ghost angle, thriller techniques that reside in the mystery of Sam's death and Carl's intentions, and most important, the love story that Molly and Sam live out, which serves as the basis for everything that happens. It has a little bit of everything for everyone, which gave diverse audiences what they wanted and made it a sheer success among people.

Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze both give excellent performances that keep the love story going. They both have a chemistry that never stops or staggers the film, but keeps it going. Whoopi Goldberg is Otta Mae Brown, a role she was born to play and for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her comic genius and diverse areas of acting play a major role, and sometimes become the heart of the film. Tony Goldwyn plays the conniving Carl, and does so effectively. He is one of those few people in a movie that the audience can truly despise for his crimes, and when the ending comes, it is pure satisfaction to watch him get what's coming to him.

"Ghost" is nothing short of a successful movie, keeping us enthralled with comedic, romantic and thrilling elements, making us believe in things beyond this world. It never stops moving, it is utterly original, and it keeps us at the edge of our seats as well as tugging at our hearts.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best movies from the 90's
Fantastic blend of romance, drama, suspense, comedy, and special effects in this decade old stroy about love after death.

When Sam (Patrick Swayze) is brutally murdered, his spirit, which is trapped between 2 dimensions, returns to earth to investigate the crime and protect his grieving girlfriend Molly (Demi Moore). After discovering that his death wasn't just an accidental mugging and his killing was orchestrated by a seemingly unlikely culprit, Sam realises that Molly's life is very much in jeopardy.

Desperate to communicate to Molly the danger she is in, Sam seeks the help of Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg, who won a deserved Oscar for this role), a confidence trickster/storefront psychic with big hair and an attitude to match. At first Molly is sceptical of Oda Mae's ability to hear Sam's voice (and so is everyone else) but after discovering that it isn't fake, she and Oda Mae team up to thwart the evil intentions of Sam's murderers.

"Ghost" was released cinematically at around the same time as "Always" and "Almost An Angel," and it is by far the best film of the 3. Its story and messages combine to assure the viewer, no matter what religion they may be, that although we will all physically die, we will never be truly dead unless we are forgotten and that love is immortality.

4-0 out of 5 stars a real 'weepy'
This is a real tearjerker of a movie. Watch it with a box of tissues to hand.
It essentially covers the theme of life after death and is about Sam (Patrick Swayze) and his girlfriend Molly (Demi Moore) and their lives after Sam is murdered.
The real scene-stealer is Whoopie Goldberg as the medium trying to act as go between. She manages to inject humour into the role, which stops the film becoming too morose. Her reaction when she realises she has real psychic powers and is not just a fake conning bereaved people is hilarious.
Well worth watching.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible script...
This was the first movie I ever saw where the credits said "Written by" and then the rest of the movie played itself out and I figured the script was just a cheap soap opera disguised as a movie. Boil it down, there is not much story here. Man comes back in ghost form to save girlfriend from the man who killed him. The dialoge is really cheesy and makes little sense. Moore and Swazie are miscast, and the ending is predictable and lacks any emotional impact. This was typical of a lot of manstream movie production in the 90's. The scripts were badly written and looked like they belongd more on cheap television shows. The trend still continues to this day.

4-0 out of 5 stars Without Whoopi It'll Be NOTHING
whoopi apparently isnt as pretty as Halle but definitely she is aa phenomenal actress. The black society hasnt fully accepted her bcos she is fond of white guys. I believe it comes with the territory. Its a risk for anyone who wants to make it real big in the game. She added spice to the movie and made it really worth watching. Every person needs to go cop this DVD. ... Read more
