This two-hour CBS movie from the much-loved series Dr. Quinn,Medicine Woman depicts the long-anticipated wedding of Dr. Michaela Quinn(Jane Seymour) to mountain man Byron Sully (Joe Lando). Any show that featuresthe marriage of the two lead characters has built-in appeal, and this one is noexception. The wedding of Dr. Mike and Sully is the most exciting thing that'sever happened to the tiny frontier town of Colorado Springs. The time is 1870,as the attractive period sets and costumes attest. The charming scene in whichthe very first train--an adorable steam locomotive--pulls into the town's brand- new station will delight train buffs, and the appearance of historical figureGeneral George Custer ups the story's action quotient. The show doesn't strivefor strict accuracy, however. Its tone resembles a historical romance novel, without the bodice-ripping. Like Little House on the Prairie, Dr.Quinn glorifies the traditional American family values of a simpler, bygoneera. Yet the script also incorporates modern-day concerns. (Dr. Mike doesn'twant to change her name after marriage, and Sully won't wear a wedding ring.)One theme of the movie is timeless: what to do about meddling relatives whenplanning a wedding. All told, Dr. Quinn's worldwide following of devotedfans will find this movie full of all the romance, excitement, and drama theyhave come to expect. --Laura Mirsky ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Irresistibly Romantic
The Dr. Quinn/Medicine Woman series had, in my opinion, some of television's most truly romantic moments (in contrast to the crude sex scenes of many movies which leave nothing to the imagination and fail to touch the heart). The chemistry between the rough yet articulate and noble-hearted Sully (Joe Lando)and the idealistic, headstrong Mikaela Quinn is palpable. This particular episode marks the triumphant climax of their long, stormy courtship and is filled with warmth, tenderness and heart-pounding sensuality (in spite of the G rating). True romantics will not be able to resist! Aside from romance, this series is top quality family entertainment with excellent character-development, positive role models, and accurate historic events/issues, many of which are still relevant today (e.g., environmental protection, civil and women's rights).

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman: For Better or Worse
I absolutely love this video. Its very interesting to me how a woman in the 1800s had to win the respect of a man to have equal rights. In doing all that she won the heart of an extremely cute guy in the process. I think that Jane Seymour and Joe Lando are the perfect actors to pursue these characters, very interesting characters. I just cannot say enough about this video and the whole series for that matter. You just have to get it. I highly recommend it for a person at any age. Preferrably a teenager and above.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Love Story in History
This was one of the best episodes of Dr.Quinn Medicine Woman ever. Jane Seymour and Joe Lando are magic together. The way they fought to have the type of wedding they wanted was very inspiring and romantic. I think that all their fans would love to see them together in another project. I continually look at all the reruns on television and I never get tired of looking at them. My goal is to one day own all the episodes, from the first one to the last one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great continuation of the TV series
Mike and Sully continue their life and in this movie, there is lots of action! I enjoyed seeing the same people of Colorado Springs again, and hope there are more movies coming! I am sorry the series went off the air!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Film Noir. Never Has A Film Had Such Sexual Tension.
The greatest film noir ever made! (Detour [1945] is second) Perfectly cast. It was this film where I took notice of William Hurt and would forever remember Kathleen Turner in such a memorable role (Her first film). Director Lawrence Kasdan did an excellent and outstanding job on this film. A one of a kind. never has a film made me feel such sexual tension and wanting. You can feel the heat! Ted Danson has an annoying role. Richard Crenna plays a real McCoy of a husband. Mickey Rourke in an earlier role before his success. You may recognize Lanna Saunders who played "Marie Horton" (a nun) on the NBC serial Days Of Our Lives from 1979-1985. Another soap opera actress, Kim Zimmer also has a very important role in this movie. Widescreen and Full Screen available on one disc. Adults Only!

4-0 out of 5 stars A true piece of film noir!
BODY HEAT hits the bullseye! The story is about Ned Racine(William Hurt),a lawyer that does not seem to know the meaning of the word AMBITION.During one summer night,he meets Matty Walker(Kathleen Turner),a sexy married woman who turns down every man who wants her. However one night, she agrees to be with Ned and the beginning of a steamy liaison takes place. Some time after that, she declares her love for Ned and wants a little favor from him that will be convenient for them:she wants him to kill her rich husband.Kathleen Turner is very convincing as Matty, her first role in a motion picture. The musical score by John Barry is very good. The music is very memorable. Some parts tend to be a bit slow moving but they dont bore because of critical information they offer that will make you understand specific events that occur in the film. One of the best movies of the 1980s,no question about it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A towering film noir!
Body heat meant the reinassance of the film noir in the eighties. Kasdan made his best picture to date. He's a very intelligemt film maker ; and employed the craft of one of the two greatest sex symbols of the eighties the talented and beauty Kathleen Turner who altogether with Theresa Russell completed the sexy duo.
Turner made reached the peak of the perfection the role of femme fatale ; the spider woman , who cleverly makes her web , waiting for a private eye who falls in love with her.

She's married and as you well suppose is very unhappy with her husband (Richard Crenna) ; the plot is superbly built from start to finnish ; the locations the heat we can feel it even outside the screen . The art direction ; the sliding camera and the enlightment are first rate. Search for Mickey Rourke in a cameo.
If you ask me about the best film noir of this decade ; this would head the list ; the others would be in order of importance : The postman rings always twice , Blood simple , Bad timing and the Black widow.
A must in your collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stylish mystery; with excellent acting, and a hot Turner.
This movie, which follows the relationship between a lawyer (William Hurt) and a sultry woman (Kathleen Turner) provides a stylish mix, of sex, mystery, and relationships. With excellent performances throughout; and a very hot (at that time) Ms. Turner, it's a fairly good movie. Nice "jazzy" soundtrack, with the exception of one Bob Seger song (also cool). Kathleen Turner is one cool lady, as she seeks to knock off her husband (Richard Crenna), and later; when she gets greedy, her lover (Mr. Hurt). The sex was fairly steamy, given that it was an "R" movie, and she can convey more eroticism; with her facial expressions than some women could with their entire (nude) bodies. And speaking of bodies, while Ms. Turner isn't the most (physically) endowed woman, she does manage to use what she has to advantage. Sex aside, some interesting supporting performance by Ted Danson and Mickey Rourke too. Worth a look.

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware!
Don't get me wrong because I love this movie but I got it with a few extras that I didn't expect. First I thought it was a little tacky that there was a price tag on the DVD that was $3 less then what I paid for it. Paying a little extra money wasn't what really made me mad because I still got a pretty good deal for the DVD, what made me angry was the fact that the DVD arrived with little insects crawling on it! I think that the DVD came from a warehouse in Illinois so watch out! My package arrived sealed with my DVD and compementary insects inside. ... Read more

Peter Kosminsky's 1992 adaptation of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights goes to the extreme of casting Sinéad O'Connor in a brief bit as Brontë herself, but the film still doesn't approach the accomplishment of William Wyler's classic 1939 production (with Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon) or subsequent versions by Luis Buñuel and Robert Fuest. That doesn't make it unwatchable, however: it still offers The English Patient costars Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche as doomed lovers Heathcliff and Cathy. Binoche is a bit washed-out, but Fiennes makes a strong impression as the rejected laborer who makes his fortune and exacts a vengeance. Unlike Wyler's film, this one covers all the chapters of Brontë's book, but it is sodden with misery and lacks all grace. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An unforgettable rendition of this classic
I was amazed when I read that this British production was not well received upon its release in 1992. The highly talented pair of Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes play the doomed Cathy and Heathcliff, supported by the equally fine Janet McTeer as Ellen Dean. The performances are exemplary--Fiennes' performance is said to have inspired Steven Spielberg to cast him as the Nazi commandant in "Schindler's List." And a diabolical Heathcliff he is, indeed--Fiennes plays this intense role faithful to Emily Bronte's original character. He is tormented, sadistic, manipulative, ruthless and brutal--and nonetheless hypnotically sexual and alluring. This is the genuine Heathcliff, with all apologies to the brilliant Laurence Olivier, who portrayed Heathcliff as a much more sympathetic character. Juliette Binoche plays both Cathy and Cathy's daughter by the ineffectual Edgar Linton, and brings great depth and appeal to both roles. The scenes of the bleak Yorkshire moors, and the haunting, shadowy quality of the Wuthering Heights house, lend this film a truly Gothic atmosphere. A jarring note is the casting of Sinead O'Connor (in a wig) as Emily Bronte, but this is a minor flaw. I found this version every bit as good as the original 1939 classic, to which this film has been unfairly compared. It is much more faithful to the brooding, doomed quality of the book. The scenes acted by Fiennes as the grief-stricken Heathcliff just after Cathy's death are alone worth the price of the film. For the many fans of these two brilliant actors, and of Bronte's novel, this film is well worth seeing. END

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful adaptation of great book.
The English Patient costars Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche star in this brilliant adaptation of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.

Having just recently read and enjoyed the book, I had a look at this on the weekend. It's very well done. Wonderful cinematography, great acting by Fienne's as Heathcliff has a haunting music score and moves along very nicely. Unfortunately the copy I got was only pan and scan but this one is in widescreen which would look really good.

I'd recommend reading the book first so you have something to compare it to. Considering all the rubbish coming out these days, I'd rather watch Wuthering Heights anytime.

Thanks for reading.

1-0 out of 5 stars For the love of god, avoid this film
This film has soiled the movie industry for me, with its sickening sentimentality, and total disregard for the text.

Wuthering Heights, the book, is not a straightforward love story. It's complex, dark, and intelligent. Cathy and Heathcliff are not textbook lovers. In fact, they are not lovers at all. Mostly, they're just mad people, who have a very deep connection.

This film, is a love story. The writers have taken the characters and plot, raped, pillaged, violated and completely mutated them, leaving only their names intact. Cathy is turned from a volatile, spoilt maniac, into a flailing heroine. Heathcliff is turned from a ferocious, abusive animal, into a romantic hero

It's an alright film, if you want a love story. If you've read the book, do not watch this film. The rich tapestry of human emotion, thought and sanity explored within the book is quite simply absent in the film.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a Period Piece
I'm quite familiar with the book, and I think the actors did a good job depicting its stormy and self-destructive passions. However, I was continually distracted by the poor quality of the sets, costumes, and hairstyles. The lintel of the Wuthering Heights house door--shown close up suspiciously detached from the rest of the house--bears a date of 1501. The house, when shot from outside as a whole, is late Victorian gothic fantasy gingerbread, probably a real mansion built by a wealthy industrialist. Although if the rock garden outside it is real the landscape artist should be shot. The interiors do not relate to the rest of the house, and some--particularly the rude stone fireplace in the kitchen--are probably purpose-built sets. Cathy Earnshaw's box bed appears to have been concocted from a circa 1905 oak wardrobe. The Art Nouveau decoration on the double doors is a dead giveaway. The female leads have purely late 20th-century faces, hairstyles, and mannerisms. "Shot on location on the moors" this film may be. But, although the moors are fine, the rest of the visual aspects will damage the film for viewers who are sensitive to such things.

5-0 out of 5 stars The only film version of "Wuthering Heights" worth seeing
I waited YEARS for this film to be released on DVD, and it is now one of the brightest gems in my movie collection. If you're looking for the best adaptation of Emily Bronte's novel, then this is the film for you. Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes are perfectly cast as Catherine and Heathcliff, and although they both do a superb job, Fiennes steals the show as Heathcliff. The scenes leading up to and directly following Catherine's death are absolutely heartbreaking, and I cry every time I watch it! Binoche is wonderful in her dual role, and this is the only film version of "Wuthering Heights" that manages to accurately depict the beauty of Bronte's novel. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Only Two Episodes Per Tape!
There's a reason you won't find an episode listing for this overpriced series of 4 tapes-- there are only two episodes per tape, and you will find few, if any, of your most fondly remembered favorites among the 8 shows duplicated for your enjoyment at the slowest VHS speed, EP, on narrow-hub spools so your VCR will take forever to rewind them.

The show's opening theme song's been overdubbed with the *closing* theme song , too.

A waste of money.

Though Tom Hanks seems to get the most recognition, Wendie Jo Sperber is the true show stopper of Bosom Buddies. She is incredibly, hilariously talented . 5-0 out of 5 stars An Absorbing Study of Anti-Semitism
"Gentleman's Agreement" tells the story of a Gentile writer (Gregory Peck) who poses as a Jew in order to get a good 'angle' on the issue of anti-semitism in Post WWII American society. His method proves almost too effective and causes problems for his young son, played by a very young Dean Stockwell, and in his relationship with a young woman (Dorothy McGuire), who finds out that she's not as liberal as she thought. Peck and McGuire are fine in their leading roles, but the film gains great depth from its outstanding supporting cast. This includes Anne Revere as Peck's no-nonsense mother, Albert Dekker as a tough, plain-speaking magazine boss, Celeste Holm as a fashion writer with a keen insight into human foibles, and Sam Jaffe in a memorable cameo as a distinguished scientist with a sharp sense of humor. The most compelling of the supporting performances, however, is that given by the great John Garfield. He plays Peck's life-long friend, who has just returned from war-time service in Europe. His role is actually not much more than a cameo, but his performance is the soul of the film. With painful clarity, he tutors his old friend in what it's like to be Jewish in a way that comes from his own lifetime of experience. He's not bitter or strident. On the contrary, he relates his advice and anecdotal evidence to Peck in a way that is heart-felt, insightful, and matter-of-fact. "Gentleman's Agreement" may not be the definitive treatment of this important social issue, but I think the film holds up very well after more than a half-century. The picture won Academy Awards for best director (Elia Kazan), best picture, and supporting actress Celeste Holm. It's not a perfect film, but its heart is definitely in the right place. This picture can be a rewarding experience for movie fans who appreciate fine acting and serious story-telling.

3-0 out of 5 stars Stuffy Oscar Winner gets same transfer second time around!
In "Gentleman's Agreement" Gregory Peck stars as Philip Green/Greenberg, a reporter impersonating a Jew in order to gain first hand knowledge into anti-Semitism. At first, snubs seem quite subtle and harmless. But as the film progresses the seething underbelly of dissension against the Jewish faith begins to rear its ugly head. Dorothy McGuire costars as Kathy, his waspish girlfriend who struggles with her own built-in anti-Semitism. John Garfield offers a startling and poignant cameo as Dave Goldberg, while Celeste Holm turns in another fine performance as Anne Dettrey, the only cast member seemingly untouched by prejudice. The film also costars Anne Revere, as Philip's mother, and Dean Stockwell as his son. Despite excellent source material from the novel by Laura Z. Hobson, and the directorial reigns handed over to one of Hollywood's best, Eli Kazan, the resulting film is heavy-handed and tiresome in spots. The plot never quite surpasses its very theatrical staging and the performances, particularly McGuire's are stiff and uninspiring.

Fox already released this title as a movie only disc, without the making-of featurette. Now, as part of its Studio Series "Gentlemen's Agreement" continues to suffer from digital anomalies which plagued the original transfer. However, whereas the old transfer seemed to falter during the latter half with excessive film grain and shimmering of fine details, it is the first hour or so of this re-release that is riddled with edge effects, aliasing, pixelization and digital grit. As far as extras are concerned, this DVD offers little more than a brief back story featurette, audio commentary and theatrical trailer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb DVD presentation of classic film
Kudos to Fox Home Entertainment for a very satisfying DVD presentation of "Gentleman's Agreement," the 1947 Best Picture Academy Award winner. The film itself is deserving of all of the accolades it received, both upon its initial release, and in all the years since.

I'm assuming that most of the people considering a purchase of the DVD have already seen the movie, so I'd like to focus here on the incisive commentary by Richard Schickel, long-time film critic for Time magazine. Stars June Havoc and Celeste Holm are also heard on the track, recorded separately, and while their remarks are interesting, this is Schickel's showcase, and he runs with it.

As it happened, I wound up listening to this commentary over the course of three nights. This kind of gradual exposure allowed me to really absorb Schickel's observations.

The critic is no sycophantic fan of "Gentleman's Agreement." While he admires its aims, and much of its execution (primarily the achievements of director Elia Kazan), he has some reservations about the script, and some of the acting.

He demonstrates a complete understanding of the conventions of 1940s studio filmmaking, but doesn't always accept the necessity that "Gentleman's Agreement" had to adhere to those norms. I didn't always agree with Schickel's criticisms of the film, but they certainly made me think, and I never found them off-putting.

Schickel wisely underscores the contribution of John Garfield, whose training in The Group Theater gave him a more realistic acting style than anyone else in the film. "Garfield seems to be acting in an entirely different movie," Schickel says, and it is not a criticism. The Garfield performance leads on a direct path to Marlon Brando's Stanley Kowalski in "A Streetcar Named Desire," also directed by Kazan, and Schickel makes this clear. It is at this point that he makes the single most fascinating statement in the entire commentary, which I won't spoil for you here. Suffice it to say that it's something that may strike you as intuitive, but put into this context, becomes something of a revelation.

I've seen Web-based reviews of this DVD that criticize Schickel for doing too much plot summary. I disagree; he doesn't merely give a blow-by-blow account of what's hapening. He mentions plot points, but goes on to offer an opinion about how well the moment is conveyed, or about what real-life parallels the film is touching upon, or something else that is valuable to the viewer.

DVD commentaries just don't get much better than this.

The other extras on the disc, among them an AMC backstory presentation and a selection of 1947 newsreels, are nice additions.

3-0 out of 5 stars An interesting look at anti-semitism
Winning the best picture Oscar for 1947 comes the story of a journalist who poses as a jewish man for six months to find out how deep anti-semitism runs in New York City. When the film came out, it was considered controversial. I say more power to the film and was glad it was made. However, keep in mind the film is over 55 years old and while the issue of racism is valid even today in some parts of the country, it comes across as somewhat outdated. The saving grace is the script. It manages to inform without pontificating and really hits on a surprising amount of aspects. Example of a great exchange:
"Why, some of my best friends are jewish"
"And some of your best friends are methodist also. But you don't make a point of saying that, do you?"

The romance between the two leads is strained and the chemistry works better when thay are odds with each other. This is the first time I've seen a movie with Dorothy McGuire and while I'm sure she is good in other films, she comes acroos as wooden here. Particularly in contrast to Celeste Holm, who eats up the screen.

I also liked the back story behind the movie. There is an interesting AMC featurette included on the special edition. It very informative and the story of what happened to actor John Garfield is tragic. While this film does not resonate as a "classic" it is a very enjoyable, watchable film. Those collecting Oscar pics or who want a relativley tame film (by todays standards) about the aspects of racism could do worse.

3-0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking Look At Prejudice
Elia Kazan's 1947 film Gentleman's Agreement is the story of a journalist who is employed to write a series of articles on the scourge of anti-Semitism in America. The journalist, Phil Green, is played by Gregory Peck and in order to get his information first hand, he poses as Jew. He encounters all forms of prejudice and his blooming romance with the niece of his publisher takes a hit. Kathy (Dorothy McGuire) insists that she harbors no ant-Semitic feelings finds that through her association with Green, that such prejudices bubble underneath the surface. John Garfield gives a standout performance as Green's lifelong friend, Dave Goldman, who has experience prejudice his whole life and has learned to be philosophical about man's failings, but still is willing to fight against blind ignorance as noted in a gripping scene where he is denied a room in a swanky hotel by an unbearable snooty desk clerk who refuses to admit the reason he won't give Dave a room is that he is Jewish even though it is obviously apparent that is the reason why. Celeste Holm won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role as a fashion writer and socialite who is attracted to Green and heavily pursues him. The film was ground-breaking at the time of its release as it was the first Hollywood movie to tackle anti-Semitism head-on. Prior to World War II, it was an unspoken rule that anti-Semitism could only be hinted at even if a film like The Life of Emile Zola was about it. But over the years, the film has lost a lot of its power and it isn't aided by the fact that many of the characters are stock profiles that exude a one-dimensional feel. Despite that fact, it still is an important film and one that can still teach a lesson as well as entertain. Mr. Kazan won the first of his two Best Directing Oscars and the film won Best Picture in 1947. ... Read more

I found the movie very interesting. Movies never follow the book to a tee. The actors and actresses were superb. I enjoyed each and every one of the characters(no problem with nicollette). Jackie comes through once again. I recommend it. It leaves you yearning for more.

4-0 out of 5 stars worth the time!
A very nice movie, with a splendid cast (although there were some exeptions!).
The story itself is offcourse classic and appealing.
It provides some 4 hrs of intertainment witch may seem long, but the movie is surtanly worth the time.
An exiting tale with an impressing cast...
So all by all i would recomend it.. (too bad its not yet available on dvd!)
But why trust my opinion, watch the movie and decide for yourself..

3-0 out of 5 stars Lucky Chance that the movie aired!!
The movie could have been better if they left out Nicolette's horrific so called acting. all the other actors did their characters justice! The make-up in first 12yrs for the female actress for the story line was gruesom, but it did get better!! All in all the movie was fine I would recommend buying this movie @ a discount only!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
I thought this was a great movie. I loved the actor playing Gino. I actually felt like he was ment for the part. Although the books were much better, I really enjoyed this movie and the sequal to it. Sandra Bullock was a good Maria, but her part was too short. The actress playing Lucky was brilliant! She gave off the real essence of Lucky.

4-0 out of 5 stars Irizarry Saves the Day
I agree with the first viewer, this movie was good, but the books were of the "can't put 'em down" variety, so would have been VERY hard to beat IMO. Vincent Irizarry, playing Gino "the Ram" Santangelo saves this movie for sure. He ages 40 years and does so with style and grace. An amazing performance from an amazing man. Michael Nader as Enzio Bonnati is excellent as well. I didn't find Braeden's portrayal of Dimitri all that compelling however. I don't think he "fit" the role real well, maybe it's just me. The roles of Lucky and her mother should have been reversed. Sandra Bullock would have made a much better Lucky and Nicolette Sheridan ... well let's just say she would have been on screen a whole lot less. Grant Show was great as Marco, although the part was too small for my liking. And the character of Lenny Golden may well have not even been introduced for all the time they spent on him, he was a BIG part of the books, and hardly even noticable in the movie. (Not the actor's fault, he was good.)

Overall, it was very entertaining. It was originally a mini-series and is long, almost four hours and would probably be best viewed in several installments. ... Read more

Upon its release in 1948, Drunken Angel was hailed in Japan asAkira Kurosawa's directorial breakthrough, comparable to Kubrick's Paths of Glory in the way it catapulted Kurosawa into a higher level of artistic achievement. Kurosawa himself noted, "In this picture I was finally myself. It was my picture. I was doing it and nobody else."

It is indeed an important, vital film, confidently conceived and expertly executed, illuminating themes that would dominate the finest films in Kurosawa's exceptional career. The setting is a rancid, jerry-built section of a postwar city, where a filthy, disease-ridden pond functions as a physical threat and also as the film's central symbol of decay. It's in this hardscrabble environment that a brash young gangster (Toshiro Mifune, in the role that made him a star) visits an alcoholic doctor (Takashi Shimura) to have a bullet removed from his hand. The doctor discovers that the hot-tempered thug is also doomed by tuberculosis, seen here as the physical manifestation of the gangster's moral decay. The doctor is himself diseased by his drinking, and as these clashing men struggle to make some kind of difference in their pathetic lives (spurned by the return from prison of a ruthless yakuza boss), Kurosawa makes unlikely heroes of them both--men who undergo a personal transformation in a vile and violent world.

Drunken Angel is a transitional film for Japanese cinema and especially for Kurosawa; it offers a vivid glimpse of postwar life (both rotten and restoring), and signals the full blossoming of Kurosawa's talent. And while the title role belongs to Shimura (so memorably poignant in Kurosawa's later masterpiece, Ikiru), the film belongs to the forceful presence of Mifune, whose vitality touches nearly every scene of this timeless and powerful drama. --Jeff Shannon ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Haunting Tale
A Gripping and haunting tale...Drunk Angel shows the various level human spirit can descend, ascend to and then back again. That even in the worst of us there can be some good. A doctor with a drinking problem tries to save a gangster (Toshiro Mifune) from TB and himself. Along the way a warped on and off friendship develops between the two. As the gangster stuggles with TB he also fights with the urge to make a name for himself as well as defend the only people who ever cared for him. As one reviewer puts it.........who really is the drunk angel?" Buy this movie and decide for yourselves. As usual great performance by Toshiro Mifune and a tale to remember by Kurosawa.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Akira Kurosawa masterpiece
Toshiro Mifune stars as a brash yakuza gangster whose bellicose bullying of a meek, alcoholic local doctor lead to the discovery that he is actually dying of tuberculosis. Mifune's subsequent emotional transformation brings out the best in his ever-alluring acting style. Interesting early glimpse at the Japanses underworld, and another great film by director Akira Kurosawa.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant character study
The key to "Drunken Angel" is the two main characters, both flawed and somewhat nobel. Mifune is Matsunaga, a powerful gangster coming to grips with his own weakness. He has tuberculosis. Shimura plays Dr. Sanada, a good hearted doctor who's weakness for alcohol has left him in the lower depths of society. When Mifune arrives to be treated for a gunshot wound, Shimura sees something in him, and attempts to treat him for his TB.

This uneasy friendship, and the balance of the two characters as they get to know each other, is the strength of "Drunken Angel." Both performances are gripping. The plot involving a gang boss released from jail, allows the two characters to develop with each other. The direction is tight and controlled.

This is easily a masterpiece, from one of cinema's greatest directors.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Scathing Commentary
Unsentimental, gripping morality tale of Japanese society after WW2. This is a simple story with the sharpness and balance of a finely crafted sword! Mifune and Shimura play off each other beautifully. Who is the drunken angel? We are told it is Shimura. But..... as Donald Richie says in his book on Kurosawa, Mifune is also an angel, though of a darker breed. Vivid images remain with you long after the film is over and respect for all those involved increases with each viewing!

5-0 out of 5 stars A window on postwar Japan
The period of time after the end of the Second World War, and the beginning of the great economic miracle for Japan was one that is a mystery to most westerners. Living in the poverty left by the war, crime flourished, the black market thrived, and those "angels" like doctors and other professionals not lost in the war took on a new role, often serving the denizens of TB- and infection-ridden neighborhoods for little pay and nearly no respect. The interplay of Kurasawa's favorite pair (Mifune and Shimura) provides a tense and gripping story of life in a nation desperately trying to pull itself out from the throes of war. Filmed in glorious black and white, it retains much of the stark interest of other postwar films, such as Stray Dog, arguably one of Kurosawa's best. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, great movie... but beware...
This is one of the funniest movies that I've ever seen. I had waited for YEARS for a chance to buy a copy after seing it on cable. BUT... sadly... this is the editied version. The uncut version (which I think was even edited on some cable channels!) is MUCH funnier. This is another case of adult humor being cut from animation because parents can't be bothered to police what their kids watch, I suppose. Even so, the cut version is great for kids because of the awesome animation and has enough humor to keep adults entertained as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic tale of Good vs. Evil with lovable heros
"... I know where to push it." -Ralph, the All-Purpose Animal

Twice Upon a Time is the story of Ralph the All-Purpose Animal and his buddy Mumford the No-Purpose Nothing.
They are misfits in the land of Frivoli, where sweet dreams are made. Unable to do much else with any success, they are challenged to... take out the garbage. They come across Flora Fauna, Rod Rescueman, Greensleeves, and the Fairy Godmother (FGM to you... she hates excess verbiage.)

The Villians in this tale are in the Murkworks, a giant filth-belching castle where nightmares are made. Synonymess Botch is the head villian. His agenda: Nightmares for everyone, all the time! Botch's henchmen include Ibor, Scuzzbopper, Ratatooi, and Rudy and the Minions.

While the songs in the movie forever date it an 80's film (Bruce Hornsby? ), we are forced to listen to them while the plot unfolds. I also noticed that some scenes are missing and the VHS edit isn't perfect... But these are the ONLY downsides to this animated treasure.
The surround sound encoding makes this one worth purchasing for ANYONE with a home theater. (When have you ever known George Lucas to take sound lightly?)

The animation style, while cuts outs, is not as crude or choppy as South Park. The character motions are fluid. (When I finally realized that Lumage was cut-out and not drawn animation, I was floored!)

The puns fly, the "asides" are hilarious, and the sub-references will keep you laughing. (Just watch the battle between Ibor and Rod Rescueman... if you don't laugh at that, you'd don't have a funny bone!)

While this aminated feature may not be for your kids, it is DEFINATELY for you! Like to laugh? BUY THIS MOVIE!

1-0 out of 5 stars The uncut version is much much better
It is a shame in a country that is supposed to be free that we can't even buy movies in the version that they were released in. Shame on Warner & Lucas for not letting adults have the choice of which version to buy. It's bad enough that our news is filtered, altered & edited by major corporations to shape our opinions. Now entertainemt is being systematicly softend & polished not offend anyone. Now that the Carlye group (partly owned by the Bush family) has now bought out Loewe's movie theater's I'm sure that this will become the norm and now filmmakers will never dare to make movies containing any risque or objectionable content. Thank God for independent film & independtly owned theaters or we would just be watching the same 10 feel good films over & over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars The REST of the story,..
OK - as far as the 2 versions of this movie. There were 2 people involved in the making - John Korty and Bill Couterie - the 'Adult' version was made possible by Bill Couterie. John Korty didn't like or approve this version. Thanks to Ladd films going under, they didn't advertise this movie and threw all their advertising cash for "The Right Stuff", hoping it would pull them through;... and it didn't. SO, this movie never really had a chance. When "Twice" made it to cable (HBO) - they showed the reels with Bill's version and John threatened to sue if it was shown anymore (did you notice how the 'adult' version wasn't on for very long?). Showtime got the 'clean' version. The version on this videotape is the version approved by John (who holds more power than Bill). It's a pity, really, as the 'adult' version is actually better and DOES make more sense. But it's VERY doubtful that it will ever be released in that version onto DVD (or any other format short of bootleg). Sorry to disappoint everyone. I know all this info as I used to be the president of the Twice Upon A Time Fan Club (still have numerous items from the movie - but my 'adult' version was stolen - only have a partial HBO copy of it now. If anybody out there has the complete 'adult' version - please contact me through my yahoo address at Nameless_Monster.) 5 stars to the 'adult' version - 3 to the 'clean' version.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!!! The only decent rangers!
I grew up watching the Power Rangers and will never forget my days seeing Jason, Kimberley, Billy, Trini and Zack fighting Rita Repulsa's latest creation.

Day of the Dumpster is the FIRST EVER episode of the Power Rangers. 5 teenagers are chosen to become the Power Rangers when evil space witch Rita Repulsa escapes from her prison.

These classic episodes are the only ones worth watching. After the third series of Power Rangers the show just got really stupid and the actors got even worse! The only problem I have with the original Power Rangers is that you can never watch it anymore. The original episodes are hardly ever shown on FOX TV anymore and only a few number of episodes were ever released on VHS.

To satisfy us fans they should release an official boxset. The complete first season of the show followed by the complete second and third seasons. As I said once before when the Power Rangers turn into the Zeo rangers there is just no point watching anymore!

I understand there are like over 100 episodes alone in the first season but they could release the season in different parts. Like the first boxset contains the first 25 episodes followed by another one which contains the next 25 episodes and so on! Please SABAR!!! Have some heart and give us fans memories by giving us every single episode of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on DVD!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Cool series, but these tapes are a rip-off
INTRODUCTION:
The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers was a classic sci-fi action series that debuted on FOX in 1993. This series tells the story of five teenagers who are given superhuman abilities to battle an evil empress who has her sights set on destroying the world. The series lasted for a number of seasons, and has spawned at least half a dozen spin-offs (all of which are inferior to this, the original series.) The series became wildly popular almost immeadiately, so five of the earliest episodes got VHS releases (keep in mind, this series was in its prime long before DVDs were invented.) This is tape one of five. Read on for my review.

EPISODE SYNOPSIS:
Two astronauts are on a moon-walking expedition, when they discover a strange object. They open this object, and an evil empress, Rita, is freed from it. She says that for her "coming-out party", she will destroy the nearest planet (which is Earth.) Meanwhile on Earth, Rita's old nemesis Zordon (who is forced to live in a glass jar for reasons that will be explained later in the series) discovers that she is free. He warps five teenagers to his secret command center, and gives them superhuman powers. Unfortuately, they don't take him seriously and leave. But before long, Rita's army begins attacking the city, so the teens realize something - this is no joke. They use their newfound powers to battle the invaders, but will it be enough?

EPISODE OPINIONS:
Overall, this is a very good first episode for the classic series. Unfortunately, it leaves a number of questions unanswered(fortunately most of these are answered in later episodes.) If you're going to get into this series, you may as well begin at the beginning.

TAPE OPINIONS:
These videos are a rip-off because you only get one episode per video! When most series are released on video, they put two episodes on each video so that consumers get a better value - not true here!

OVERALL:
If you can find these videos for a good price, they're a worthwhile diversion from all of the junk that has been flooding the television airwaves recently. If you're going to watch the Power Rangers, make sure it's the classic series - and not those lame spin-offs FOX has been showing in recent years.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best
the one to start it all yes i have been a fan seens this episode first was shown. ya a long time ago. it is about when rita rapulsa is relesed from a dumster on the moon she is an evil scorceres that is trying to "concure earth" then zordon finds 5 "teen agers with attitude" and they become the power rangers

5-0 out of 5 stars POWER RANGERS
This was the first power rangers ep ever. If you are buying this copy for the first box art then do it. But if you are looking to buy this because you just wanted to see the ep then you should look for the CLASSIC RED RANGER tape. You get two ep for less. You get this ep Day of the Dumpster and The Wannabe Ranger.

Dreary, pointless late-'80s novel by literary poseur BretEaston Ellis focused on listless, shiftless, drug-sniffing, sex-swapping, dead-end California teens with too much money and time on their hands. Which just about sums up this movie, though it's not nearly as interesting as that. This is mostly due to the ridiculously cleaned-up script and lifeless direction, which whitewashes the baser depravity and replaces it with perversion-lite and fashion shows. It doesn't help that director Marek Kanievska is saddled with Brat Pack lesser (make that least) lights Andrew McCarthy and Jami Gertz. The only things that lift this film above the muck are the performances by James Spader as a particularly heinous drug dealer and Robert Downey Jr. as a rich-kid addict with no self-control. --Marshall Fine ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Love/Hate Relationship With This Movie
Perhaps the movie looked better than it was. Maybe the book was better than the film. It could be that there was just something missing.

All told, I wanted to like this film, a lot. All of the pieces are there for a good movie: compelling story line, sympathetic characters, interesting twists. For some reason, however, I was left feeling like something was missing. I just wanted more and I didn't get it.

The movie is not a feel good movie or a preachy movie (although it tries to do so with its drug message), but it does have some great things going for it. The music was excellent, Robert Downey Jr. is very good, and some of the cinematography (especially the last few minutes of the film) was inspired.

Still, you can't overlook some of the problems. The acting is simply uneven. Andrew McCarthy looks as though he is interviewing for a stuffy banking position. The relationship between Julian and his father is never really played out. Rip's henchman looks like a California surfer with an attitude problem, not a bouncer type that is out to do no good. The movie all but says that if you are 18, white, and live in Beverly Hills, your main entertainment venue is snorting cocaine.

For me, this film was truly a love/hate relationship. I simply wanted more to love and less to hate.

5-0 out of 5 stars I don't care what the others say!
I've both read this book and seen this movie. They're right who say it doesn't follow the book in "plot" (but then again if you read the book you'd realize it was one of those good books like "Catcher in the Rye" without a real "plot"- which wouldn't make too good a movie now would it?). This is a moving movie and the acting is brilliant most of the time, especially from Robert Downey Jr. He plays the part of the hopeless junky so well that it's almost eerie sometimes. Jamie Gertz did a good job playing the hypocritical yet caring friend who makes it her mission in life to protect the Downey Jr. character. And Andrew McCarthy puts off just the right mixture of depth of feeling and the detachment of an outsider who's been away for too long. The casting was great and they did what they could to make this a good movie, and succeeded. It was real, scary, intelligent, and suspensful. Watch it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Re: Downeys finest hour
Two words apply to this movie: Robert Downey. He gives an incredible performance as Julian a drug addicted pal of two old high school friends. Its astonishing to me that he wasnt at least nominated for an Academy Award. Downeys performance is beyond convincing, it will literally send chills down your spine.

See it for Robert Downey, it is truly his finest hour.

5-0 out of 5 stars To live and die in LA
Ok, so it might be someone else's film title, but this is one of the essential 80s brat flicks and concerns the said heading in every aspect. Let's get the rubbish out of the way. The plot is twiddled with until it barely resembles the book. A lot of Ellis' humour gets lost in translation. Blair is a brunette unlike her published blonde doppelganger. Hmmm.
That said, Less Than Zero is probably the one film that epitomises the 80s like no other for me. The opening shots, with the Bangles brilliant cover of 'Hazy Shade...' clanging in the background, still invites chills.
Others have written the plot succintly, so I will say that if you want a cold, clinical, no exit look at being a rich, bored teen in LA, search no further. Blair (Jamie Gertz)is deliciously confused, drugged and flakey, and Clay, the solid rock in the middle of his friends' breakdowns is perfectly cast in a youthful Andrew McCarthy. Top honours go to Robert Downey Jnr, spookily playing out his own future as the drug addled Julian with frenetic highs and lows, insincere to himself and broken to his mates, and James Spader as the vile pimp and dealer Rip.
Wonderfully photographed by Edward Lachman, it's simultaneously lush and sparse. If the end scenes don't get you sobbing into a pillow, then take that stone out of your chest and get a heart. Less Than Zero has been unfairly mauled by many, but it stands up today as a film with much more going for it than you may think. For starters, it may be one of the only teen flicks that doesn't make you howl/cringe because of ropey dialogue and cheeseball disco moments. Its 'drugs message' is played out minus politics and simply invites you take a journey with the characters. Death, it seems to say, is inevitable for everyone, some just go a little faster.
Less Than Zero is sexy, frank and troubled. There could not have been a better antithesis to the whizz bang makeover! of other 80s teen films (John Hughes take note!). Helped by a storming soundtrack, this one should be in your collection somewhere.

3-0 out of 5 stars totally different than the book
I read the book 1st then saw the movie and they were totally different. Really only the character's names were the same. The book is way more detailed (obviously) and graffic and told by Clay's point of view only. I think I would have really liked the movie if I had not read the book 1st. The book is better but way worse so if you can't take graffic nature stick with the movie. The performance of the actors were great though and in itself it was a good movie. Below are major examples of the differences between the two (spoilers). (...)In the book:
The story focuses entirely on Clay not the story of 3 friends like the movie. You don't even "see" Julian in the book until much later and he is already established as a prostitute. He has no reconciliation scene with his dad and he doesn't die. He doesn't ask for $50,000 but rather money for an abortion and when he goes to get him his money back he makes him watch him prostitute for it. Rip is a dealer but not the pimp. Clay sits and watches Julian while he is prostituting himself for 5 hours - not just busts in and save him like the movie.

Clay does just as much drugs as everyone else and has sex with another guy and other women besides blair.

More characters are outlined and it is more detailed in 80's culture and music.

They watch a snuff movie. They tie up and sexaully assault a preteen and eventhough clay doesn't watch or condone it he doesn't stop it and just leaves.

There is no great love affair between clay and blair like in movie - he doesn't really care for her or love her anymore.

People shoot heroine.

They find a dead body and gawk at it and dont do anything about it. ... Read more

I have both of these movies on VHS but would love to get them on DVD. I remember when I was a little girl just loving the Ewoks, it was the only Star Wars I like since they were in it. I wanted to be Cindal and I had a stuffed Wicket. This movie is great for children, I just watched it 2 nights ago with my 4 year old niece, she is as hooked as I was at her age. Timeless Classic!

2-0 out of 5 stars good for the kids ony
this movie is a rather obvious attempt to cash in on the popularity the ewoks gained during the return of the jedi movie.nobody youve ever heard of isin it.but kids dont care,so theyll like it anyway.if you can listen really closely,a ewok cusses, but besides that, there is nothing to warp thier minds.it is not nearly as good as the star wars movies so dont be fooled!at one point a ewok gets killed.this could freak them out.the real deal on this one is that its cute for small children butthats about it.

4-0 out of 5 stars White Fang- One of the best animal-film ever?
The story tells us about a battered wolf, who becomes the best friend of a young gold digger called Jack (Ethan Hawke).

The scenery of the wilderness and of the snowy Alaska is incredible. The dog-fight between White Fang and a bulldog is dramatic. If you like animal-storys, White Fang is the best film for you.

The actors are convincing and the score is good. The film is so good because it's based on a partly true story. We think that the film includes fun, action and adventure. We liked the scene in which the wolf saves Jacks life by chasing away a grizzly bear best.

It's a must to watch this film!

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful tale of love and violence in Alaskan wilderness
This Disney version of White Fang, starring Ethan Hawke, Jed the wolf, and Bart the grizzly is my favorite movie. The film has breathtaking, sweeping views of the Alaskan wilderness with a swelling score to accompany the cinematography. And that's just the beginning. Fresh-faced and innocent Ethan Hawke plays a wonderful Jack, a young man trying to find his father's Yukon claim during the Gold Rush of the 1800's. Klaus Maria Brandauer brings realism as the man who grudgingly befriends the boy. Jack takes a journey from boy to young man as he encounters death, violence, cruelty, ignorance, friendship, and love in this beautiful movie for anyone of any age.

There is no sex, bad language, or nudity, but make no mistake: this is a violent and scary film. Scenes of dogfights are so realistic you cannot believe the animals are just acting. There is the death of a mother wolf in front of her cub, vicious dogfights, a grizzly attack, implied killing of a man by a pack of ravenous wolves, and an implied sensuous relationship between Brandauer and his lovely girlfriend.

Native Americans and wolves get the treatment they deserve in this movie, bringing a new perspective to viewers without being preachy or maudlin.

Warning: When the grizzly makes his appearance, it is when you least expect, and it will make your heart jump. And it is the biggest grizzly I have ever seen in my life. My hat goes off to the animal trainers in this film.

1-0 out of 5 stars White Fang - Not even close to the book
If there was any mark lower than one star, I'd put it down. I have not even seen the movie and yet I read the description, and can say that this movie is the lowest of the low.

Jack London's book was an absolute masterpiece, and the movie has absolutely no connection with the book in question, other than title and the name of the wolf.

In the book, it was the life story of a wolf who eventually became domesticated, but not after being injured, beaten, thrown into the fighting pits, and generally had to endure a life of hate for both men and other dogs.

I cannot beleive disney put such a great title on a movie if the film does not have a shred of the art it has been named after.

If you want the real White Fang, go to some bookstore, or search here at Amazon, and get the book. This movie's been designed only to catch the attention of gullible oafs who do not check the back of the case to see what it's about.

To those people who rated 3 and above, read the book and you will share my view, that this movie is a scandal against Jack London and the novel, and should be ignored like any other crappy movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this movie...
It's a little different than the book, but a wonderful movie nonetheless.... My only complaint is that it's not on DVD.. major bummer! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Stephen King's Worst Film But It Was The 80's After All
This 1986 Stephen King film (he directed the movie and wrote the screenplay) is possibly his worst film. The cheesy 80's is written all over it and it's not the mature work of Stephen King, who has come up with scarier material than this. Stars Emilio Estevez as the leader of a group of truck stop diner who have to band together to defeat possessed trucks. A comet that passed through the skies left an eerie green cloud over the town and has made it possible for human's inventions, electronic or otherwise, to rebel against humans. Soon, all the trucks come to life and drive themselves, killing off their drivers. This film is really nothing exciting or even scary. Stephen King has created more frightening horror films. Even if he was trying to go for a science fiction type of horror genre, it did'nt work. Maybe because it was the 80's and this is just one bad apple in the bunch.

Yeardley Smith, best known as the voice of Lisa Simpson from The Simpsons is part of the cast. It's refreshing to see her in person and in movies outside from the cartoons. She was also in the short lived early 90's series "Herman's Head". This is definately not Emilio Estevez's best work. About a year earlier, he had performed in The Breakfast Club in which he did a much better job. He would do the same later in the 90's with the Mighty Ducks movies. The trucks are funny to look at and the humans being killed by them is not as frightening as it should be. Especially comedic is the truck with the Green Goblin head on it. This movie, which is a sort of camp classic, is more enjoyable if it does'tn take itself seriously. This movie DOES try to be serious horror. The ending implies that the survivors made it possible for the aliens in the green cloud to be defeated and it is supposed to be a sort of serious film about survival. But it's not really a good film for that type of plot. I feel this movie would be better to look at in Mystery Science Theatre 3000 where they showcase old camp, bad movies with ad lib jokes. Then maybe this movie would be better to look at. But if you're into the 80's, Stephen King (no matter what he does) and Emilio Estevez, this is the film for you. Thank God it' not well remembered.

5-0 out of 5 stars KICK BUTT
This movie rocks! Terrible acting, poor use of fake blood, steam rollers, a soda machine that I would love outside my place of business, the psycho music when a machine is about to kill someone, bible salesman gets his sh@* ruined, random sex scene that has nothing to do with the plot, and senceless destruction of cars, trucks, power tools, and buildings. This movie serves up 31 flavors of whoop a** with a side of good old fashioned beatdown. This movie would have kicked a** even if Men at Work did the sound track but just to add even more flavor to side of beatdown, the producers threw in a sound track by AC/DC.
Besides Dawn of the Dead this movie is one of the best ones out there!!

4-0 out of 5 stars it has its charm
This 1986 movie isn't the greatest (and the picture quality sucks), but it has its charm. It has the distinction of being the only movie Stephen King directed (he found directing to be such a horrible job that he vowed never to do it again). You've got Emelio Estevez in the lead role. None of the acting is spectacular and the story (written for the screen by King) leaves a little to be desired, but in the end, it is a good film. Or at least one I enjoy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Low Gear
Not much here except this has been done before in different incarnations (DUEL, KILLDOZER, THE CAR) all of which are better films than this rehash. MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE suffers from being a one-note film with bad acting and terrible stunt work/special effects. There is no horror or suspense here except to watch a bunch of vehicles running over people picking them off one by one. Stephen King directs and it is truly a waste of time as cardboard characters don't do much except scream as they get oft. Sometimes horror movies have unintentional humor to get a few laughs. This film doesn't even have that to make it memorable. It takes the subject matter too seriously even if the subject matter is really a funny one when one thinks about it .Only thing good that came out of the film is the AC/DC song "Who Made Who?". It is too bad a film like this will be broadcast over and over again on cable or on network tv and a superior film like KILLDOZER will never be shown, and it can't even be found on tape or DVD.

3-0 out of 5 stars Who Made Who.....Man VS Machine
Beeing a big AC/DC fan I will actually give you a review that dosent have anything to do with the great sound track!
I give this movie about 3 and a half. This was the very first movie that Steven King did himself, and I think it might have been the last? In the trailer, Steven King says somthing like "if you want it done right, you have to do it yourself, and I will scare you" but i gotta honestly say, he failed at that unfortunalty.... I remember when it first came out it did scare me, but i was about 6 years old at the time and the big boys and grown up's where watching it.... but years later when I found out that AC/DC had done a soundtrack to a movie, i went and rented it.... And was plesently suprised to see it was that movie that scared me all those years ago. But the second time around did nothing to scare me. Overall, the movie i dont think is that bad, its definitly not scary, its not the best acting, its not totally suspensfull, and it has some weird twists and turns... but to quote AC/DC's rhythem guitarist Malcolm Young "It's not all that great of a movie, but its still better then alot of the crap you see these days!" And I fully agree with him!

Sure, yeah, the soundtrack is mostly 95% AC/DC and the album soundtrack to this movie is AC/DC's "who made who" but that isnt what makes me have a liking to the film.... actually, infact, I dont quite think AC/DC's music blends in with the picture to be honest! well, some do... but one that puzzles me is "For those about to rock" beeing played when they sneak over to the showers and then into the sewer pipes.... I dont understand any conenction with the song, music and scene to be quite honest... and a few others i could point out just dont match the moment or mood with the music thats selected, or mixed in at wrong moments... if you know what i mean?

But apart from that, The movie as you shoudlve read by now is about a comet going over the world, and the machines come to life....and then the story goes into a group of people who are strandard in a gas station ...yadda yadda yadda.... my one question about the plot is, why dont the cars come alive? but anyway, the performance from the actors is not spectaculer.... but dont get me wrong, i hate award winning perfromances... so im ok with it, ive seen a hell of alot worse! The movie is allright... but i dont recomend you pay alot for it... i was able to pick mine up pretty cheap.

The bonus features arnt anything to praise. Theres a trailer, and a bio of Steven King which lists all the movies he has had cameo's in and it's intresting to find out where he actually is in this movie!! "Honey, this machine just called me an (...)

I dont consider trailers and wide screen to be any kind of bonus feature. those should and pretty much are, standard features. So this DVD basicly only comes with a bio on Steven King and nobody else... I think Emilio Estefes shoudlve gotten a filmography... and there should be more bonus features :( Maybe the "Who Made Who" video clip? that would make it worth the price alone for what it is at the moment! but unfortuanlty theres nothing... it might come in widescreen and surround sound, but i serisloy think the movie shoudl have had a bit more added to it in the bonus department to make it worth the while to purchase!

5-0 out of 5 stars richly romantic lovely film
This is a very richly romantic and great film, starring jennifer Jones and William Holden. It's amust see for all movie fans, especially of romance. The really have a great chemistry, a beautiful and poignant love story. The theme song is beauitufl as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A CAPTIVATINGLY BEAUTIFUL THOUGH TRAGIC LOVE STORY!!!
Jennifer Jones and William Holden are perfectly cast as star-crossed lovers, in this film. The story is poignant and beautifully done. Jennifer Jones portrays her character, Dr. Han Suyin with depth and feeling. She is believable! William Holden, as Mark Elliot, war-correspondent, is charming and determined to win her love. And yet, he respects her wishes and her ancient heritage and culture. The scenery throughout the film is breath-taking.The title song, played throughout the picture only enhances the scenic beauty. My favorite parts are, of course their first meeting at the Palmer-Jones cocktail party, their outing that begins on the beach and their brief but romantic meetings on the hill over-looking Hong Kong. The ending, though most tragic, is beautifully done! A must see movie!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Love is a Syrupy, Schmaltzy Thing
This film looks great, and that's about where my praise ends.

"Love Is a Many Splendored Thing" came out in the very schizophrenic year of 1955, when candy-coloured nonsense like this co-existed with trail-blazing artistic fair like "Kiss Me Deadly." As a trend toward smaller, socially conscious films like "On the Waterfront" and "Marty" established itself in the mid-5
