patterned after book.
I bought this video because it appeared to be based on the book UP PERISCOPE writen by Robb White. I bought the book in about 1961 in grade school. I loved the book and read it several times. The movie has the same characters, Kenn Braden, Skipper Stevensen, Pat Malone, Si, etc. It roughly followed the book, except there was a big difference in one outcome. To be honest, I liked the book more, but I really enjoyed the movie. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had not read that book and tried to follow the two plots. It was a good movie, but, like the one goat said to the other goat as they were eating the film from a movie "I liked the book better!" Robb White also wrote a book called SECRET SEA, which I enjoyed almost as much as UP PERISCOPE.

Another Good Submarine Film
It seemed that ever since the release of 1957's THE ENEMY BELOW, World War II submarine movies enjoyed great popularity during the late 50s. This is one of the better ones directed by Gordon Douglas with stalwart James Garner and cautious Edmond O'Brien. The scenes around the Japanese held island are suspenseful and well filmed by Carl Guthrie. Richard Landau's screenplay is pretty faithful to the novel by Robb White. It also features Edd Byrnes, Alan Hale Jr. and one of my favorite actors Warren Oates.

Worth watching over.
Edmond O'Brien has a reputation for being so cautious that some of the crew thinks that equates to chicken. James Garner (Lt. Ken Braden) is about to test that caution with his life. Lt. Braden has a mission that is bordering on endangering the SUB. The bulk of the movie is the stress and interaction between the commander and LT and the crew that thinks the commander is chicken. You may have heard the story before but this is a very good version.

James Bond, as written by Jules Verne
In Science Fiction Fandom this type of tale is called "steampunk", a term derived from "cyberpunk" and not entirely appropreate. Cyberpunk tends to be depressing, while steampunk is usually a romp. "The Wild Wild West" television show was steampunk (so was the movie, but who wants to remember THAT thing?). So were "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", and "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen". Where does "The Assassination Bureau" fit on this list? Well toward the top, of not at the very peak. The story is VERY loosely based on a peculiar short story of the same name by Jack London (lots of period Radical Politics, very little charm, and no Diana Rigg). Taking that as its starting point the film romps through double dealing in Edwardian London, rascality and raids in a period Parisian bordello, skullduggary and poisoning in Venice, the assassination of Benny Hill (in a bit part as a minor Balkan Prince), and ends with a duel and a bang.

Previously available only (so far as I know) on an EP videotape. A widescrean DVD almost HAS to represent an improvement. Is it greedy of me to hope that some commentary (by Rigg, perhaps) will be included? Probably.

In any case; one hell of a romp.

When spies were way cool!!!
Back in the pop culture-friendly 60's, the spy game flourished on the big screen. During that decade, one could take his/her pick of the adventures of James Bond, Derrick Flint, or Matt Helm. Even on the television, there was "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.", "The Girl from U.N.C.L.E.", "Honey West" (a private eye), "Amos Burke" (Gene Barry's former police chief turned secret agent), two classics starring Patrick McGoohan ("Secret Agent" and "The Prisoner"), "The Wild, Wild West", and the comic parody, "Get Smart".

This was also the time of the big-budgeted "chase" flick. Movies like "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World", "The Great Race", and "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines".

Well, "The Assassination Bureau" has a little bit of them all: tongue-in-cheek humor; a casting coup with "The Avengers" Diana Rigg and Oliver Reed, fresh from "Women in Love"; a pre-"Kojak" Telly Savalas (who had also been featured in the James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", along with Rigg); a rollicking score; and nifty special effects, especially the concluding battle on the airship.

In the words of that great statesman Austin Powers, "It's groovy, baby!"

The film "The Assassination Bureau" is based on the novel by Jack London. It's a spoof of the action-adventure yarn, laced with gentle comedy--a period piece set in the early 1900s. The heroine, Miss Winter (Diana Rigg) is a prim-and-proper newspaper reporter who develops a theory that all of the seemingly random world-wide killings committed by anarchists are actually crimes conducted under contract by a group of hired assassins operating as The Assassination Bureau.

Miss Winter's theory interests Lord Bostwick (Telly Savalas), the owner of a large London newspaper, and he agrees to publish Miss Winter's story when she announces her intention of destroying the bureau by contracting the death of the bureau's organizer, Ivan Dragomiloff (Oliver Reed). After infiltrating the Assassination Bureau, Miss Winter offers the contract to Dragomiloff, and he, curiously enough, accepts. By accepting the contract, he hopes to test the efficiency of his operatives, and so, a game of cat and mouse ensues as Dragomiloff travels throughout Europe trying to assassinate his operatives before they [do away with] him.

This fast moving film takes Dragomiloff and Miss Winters to France, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland as they assassinate their way across Europe. Operatives include Phillipe Noiret as Monsieur Lucoville--puritanical crusader at home, and bordello owner by night, and Curt Jurgens stars as the splendid but crazed swordsman General von Pinck. Warren Mitchell (Alf Garnett of Till Death Do Us Part fame) plays Herr Weiss--the rather nervous Swiss assassin.

The sets are marvellous, and the romantic sparks between Diana Rigg and Oliver Reed ignite the screen. They are a wonderful contrast to one another--Rigg is the suffragette who hopes that her career as a newspaperwoman will strike a great blow for women everywhere. Reed as Dragomiloff cuts a powerful, potent figure, and even Miss Winter can't resist his charms. Their on-screen chemistry is quite powerful. This film is a smooth, pleasant, entertaining diversion and is reminiscent of films such as "The Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines," and "The Great Race"--displacedhuman

very droll - fast paced and witty
Lively and quick-witted humor make this a really fun little movie to watch. I'll refrain from discussing the plot or scenes, because the less you know about it before watching, the better.

Oliver Reed, in a departure from the dark and menacing roles we usually see, is charming and debonair in this rather zany comedy. Diana Rigg is delightful (surely a little over-acting can be forgiven in a comedy?), and Telly Selvas surprisingly light touch is just right for his role.

The pace drops off a bit in the second half, and the comedy becomes broader and less subtle (yes, even slapstick as noted by another reviewer).

Still, taken as a whole, it's a clever, funny movie and very enjoyable.

The Assassination Bureau, Limited
I loved this movie as a boy thirty years ago and approached the video with some fear: would it be as enjoyable as I remembered it? No need to worry. The adult cringed a little at the pan-and-scan print, the crude editing, the overdone '60s shenanigans, and the incessant theme music. But the boy was as happy as ever. "The Assassination Bureau" is clever and witty, and the actors are clearly having a great time. Oliver Reed, normally a bit of a sourpuss, actually performs with humor and style for once. But the movie's greatest asset is Diana Rigg, the first actress I ever had a crush on. Maybe if you're a Baby Boomer like me, she'll always be the one for you. In this movie, as in the great neglected James Bond film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," she is droll and sexy and somehow very moving, and in both she has a particularly funny rapport with villain Telly Savalas, barely containing her disgust for him. This surprisingly absorbing drama, based on Conrad Richter's novel, tells the tale of the re-assimilation of Johnny Butler, kidnapped as a child by Native Americans (in this 1958 film, of course, called Indians), into the "white man's world." Reluctant and unfamiliar with his biological parents (Jessica Tandy and Frank Ferguson), he's befriended by frontiersman Del Hardy (Fess Parker, basically looking handsome and playing his popular image), also raised by the Indians and now an Army man. Hm.
The film The Light in The forest was exactly what you would expect in a Disney film. No gore no real fighting, if your an action movie lover then this is the worng flick for you. After reading the novel by Conrad Richter, Diney literally trashed this book. Changed everything besides a few things. Also if you like movies true to the book, skip this one.

Nostalgic movie but not for today's kids...
If you were born in the 1960's or before, you might enjoy this sweet, simple Disney tale of young love and the wilderness. Today's youth, however, will find it a snooze. MacArthur and Lynley are beautiful and display great promise.

The Movie VS. The Book
The name of this movie as you can tell is "The Light in the Forest. Some of the things in the movie were the same as in the novel. One thing that was similar is most of the same characters were in both the movie and the novel. Another similarity that i liked was that they had most of the same settings. One thing that i disliked was the fact that True Son's white brother wasn't in the movie, instead he was replaced by the servant girl. I didn't enjoy the elements of the movie because it wasn't like the novel. There were many things that were different. One big difference is that Gordie (True Son's white brother) wasn't in the movie. Another big difference is that there was no name for the servant girl in the novel and that she wasn't really paid attention to in the novel. However in the movie she was as important as Gordie was in the novel. That is what i think of the movie and how it campares to the novel.

The Light in the Forest review
Iv'e seen this movie called The Light in the Forest and it was wonderful. The original author was Conrad Richter, then they turned the book into a movie.The video was ful of adventure and excitement cast int he 1760's in america. I think the movie was cool but I don't like some parts of it,like when they left out and added some characters and scenes that were not in the novel. The again I like the part when Trueson got into a fight with his uncle Wilse and first got beat up but the beated his uncle up. I also liked that the video ended with a happy ending and everybody is okay, but in the novel Trueson was left hanging and doesn't know where to go. The video and the novel are somewhat the ame and different. The video focuses Trueson's problem is his uncle and the novel focuses himself getting home to his Indian home. The video is bases on a Disney movie and has a happy ending to it.I recomend you see the movie, I think people will enjoy it.

The Light in the forest the movie was awful. I loved story line but it was made unprofeshinally and un real.It was like watching a kindergardners play (which I would enjoy much more.)The book was made with a spirit of passion by Conrad Richter but the movie toke that passion and obviously changed it into a heap of garbage.
The movie is about True Son a boy who has lived among the indians for many years and now must go back home to his real white family. The boy is lost between his two sided heart now he must make a decision.
If I were to compare this to a rollercoaster ride of your mind it would be a rollercoaster going no where. ... Read more

"With you, never a quickie..."
...al-vays, a longie." This movie rocks. It's very 70's...disco dancing, Afro haircuts, joint smoking, Susan St. James, and free love. Who could ask for anything more?

George Hamilton has a great butt and makes for a dang sexy Dracula. Other than the George swooning, though, this is a movie that makes me laugh out loud just about every time I watch it. Richard Benjamen is hysterical as the jealous boyfriend who keeps unsuccessfully trying to kill the count. ("No, Rosenberg. That is for a vere-volf.") Arte Johnson is a bug-chomping bucket-o-laffs as Renfield. Susan St. James has a cute, self-effacing humor about her and is funny and lovable as the model who falls for Drac. It's just plain entertaining. I will definitely buy it if it's released on DVD.

Once bitten, always a fan.
I know this movie inside and out, having seen it on cable a million times when I was a kid. The concept is a scream! George Hamilton plays a rather hip Count Dracula and Arte Johnson his ingratiating sidekick Renfield. Drac falls madly in love with Cindy Sondheim, played by Susan St. James, a high-powered New York supermodel. He despairs of ever having her for himself, but fate deals him a lucky blow couched in misfortune: The local Communist bigwigs, who desire to convert Drac's castle into a training camp for Nadia Comaneci and her teammates, give Drac and Renfield the boot. The logical choice? To escape to America and track down Cindy in New York City, which Drac summarily does. Luckily, she falls in love with him, but before Drac can make her one of the undead, Cindy's high-strung boyfriend Jeffrey Rosenberg, played by Richard Benjamin, interferes. Jeffrey's grandfather -- the famous vampire hunter Dr. Van Helsing, who had been Drac's nemesis -- died without ever destroying his undead quarry, and Jeffrey is determined to finish what his grandfather started. His attempts to do so backfire hilariously! In the end -- and I was so happy for them -- Drac and Cindy make good their escape to spend the rest of their "lives" together.

No matter how often I watched this movie, it never lost its appeal or its comedy. There aren't too many movies out there that are blessed with this gift.

P.S. Was the part of the wino played by Richard Mulligan of SOAP and EMPTY NEST fame? If so, I didn't see his name listed in the credits.

Is this really better than DEAD AND LOVING IT?
NO! IT'S NOT.But it is a good movie that deserves proper DVD treatment.I'll grant you the first 10 minutes of each movie would lead you to believe that FIRST BITE is the superior comedy.But you would be wrong, DEAD (and loving it) wrong.I really admire the originality of Dracula in modern day New York and Kudos to George Hamilton who is amazingly witty.But the rest of the cast is a little sour.Arte Johnson's Renfield is not nearly as funny or dynamic as Peter MacNicol's Renfield.Susan Saint James is barely 1/10 of Amy Yasbeck in terms of class,beauty and sexuality.She gives Dracula a damn good reason to desire her so.I'll never figure out why the master prince of darkness would be so taken with such a plain jane so-called model.I guess Mel Brooks himself is up against Richard Benjamin.Don't EVEN think, Benjamin is any kind of formiddible opponent to Brooks.First Bite does have it's moments from time to time.Let's face it! You mess with Mel Brooks and your just asking for trouble.I watch both of these movies around Halloween as a fun double feature.Superior production values, stronger comedy,and classy storytelling DEAD AND LOVING IT will always be the headliner.PLUS I HATE DISCO.The waltz Leslie Nielsen asks Miss Mina to dance to at the ball is charming,delightful and worthy of ownership.Whereas THAT DISCO CRUD George Hamilton travoltas to has me gripping the arms of my chair in an intense effort not to grab the remote and end the movie right there and then.If and when they decide to release this on DVD I hope that the nauseating dance sequence is one complete scene on the scene selection list so I can skip that part and enjoy a relatively good movie.However MEL BROOKS'DRACULA DEAD AND LOVING IT is the superior cinematic effort.which is coming to DVD JUNE 29, 2004. "A werewolf? Really? Are you sure?"
I just saw this on AMC and it's still funny after all these years. I hadn't seen it in a while, but I just couldn't stop laughing. One of the best spoofs of Dracula to ever come out of Hollywood. It's far superior to Mel Brook's Dracula: Dead and Loving it. George Hamilton is the sauve and sophisticated count aided by his bug swilling servant Renfield...that laugh still gets me. Dracula is kicked out of his castle and decides to make for America to be with his true love...a supermodel of all people. On the way his coffin is misplaced, he gets caught by a dogcatcher, and gets drunk by drinking in an intoxicated homeless man. Richard Benjamin is hilarious as Cindy's jealous therapist, who also happens to be a descendent of Van Helsing and loses his girl and his sanity in trying to bring Drac down. Don't miss Sherman Helmsley as the unfortunate preacher who flings himself out the window upon seeing Georgie, and of course Mrs. Jefferson herself as a proud-to-be black and don't mess with me "honky" judge. The setting is perfect... the clothes, the hair, and that music! This is one of my favorite films and I hope they put it on DVD soon!

Put It on DVD and I'll Buy It!
Love at First Bite is a great movie, it's so funny and George Hamilton, Susan Saint James, Arte Johnson and Richard Benjamin are all terrific.

I would like to buy this movie but only on DVD, we have DVD players now and I no longer buy my movies on video so I will wait until Love At First Bite gets to DVD and hopefully I won't have a long wait! ... Read more

The two classic Brady Bunch Marcia, Marcia, Marcia episodes
We are not talking lofty standards here when we recognize the fact that this particular set of episodes from "The Brady Bunch" contains two of the show's signature episodes from the perspective of American pop culture. The common denominator here is the oldest female Brady, Marcia (Maureen McCormick), in what are clearly her two most famous misadventures. "Getting Davy Jones" (Episode #61, December 10, 1971) has Marcia promising to get teenage hearthrob Davy Jones of the Monkees to sing at her school prom. Unfortunately, this appearance is news to Davy. Good thing this is a television comedy otherwise this would end badly for Marcia. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia gets her comeuppance in "The Subject Was Noses" (Episode #90, February 9, 1973), when she gets hit in the nose with a football. The nose swells up like a balloon and because of the disfigurement Marcia's boyfriend Doug Simpson (Nicholas Hammond) ditches her. Obviously no great loss, but it sure bothers little miss vanity. For fan's of neglected sister Jan this has to be the most popular episode of "The Brady Bunch" ever. You do not have to like these episodes let alone "The Brady Bunch," but you do have to at least know about them as touchstones of pop culture. P.S. Pay attention to the guest stars besides Davy Jones on these episodes and their importance in television history. The first one has Marcia Wallace, who went on to success on "The Bob Newhart Show" as receptionist Carol Kester and who know provides the voice for Bart's teacher Edna Krabappel on "The Simpsons." Nicholas Hammond from the other episode ended up as television's "Spider-Man" after being one of the Von Trapp children in "The Sound of Music."

Girl, look what you've done to me ....
Classic Brady! Do you know any girl who, not only got a rock star to play at her prom, but got a date out of him? Only Marcia could pull this off! I remember when it originally aired in the 70's and had dreams of meeting the infamous Monkee (OK, I was 6 years old and hadn't discovered "Tiger Beat" yet). The clothes and hairdews alone make the episode (check out Davey's dorky mananger and Marcia's groovy poncho). On a footnote: did actually meet Davey 15 years later during a Monkees Reunion, a disappointment. Better on tape, than in person.

Of course it's stupid fantasy...
and this video is worth the money just to hear the black girl in the Davy Jones episode ask Marcia (referring to Davy) -- all excited and bubbly -- "is he as neat as he looks?" Yeah, right. I like the end of the episode when Marcia and Davy stand side by side, and you can get an idea of just how short Davy is - he is shorter than Maureen McCormick. The "oh my nose" episode is pure fantasy -- and as for Marcia episode it's right up there with the Romeo and Juliet and braces episode --the family that paints together? Marcia's swollen nose disappears overnight? The Big Man on Campus asks Marcia out? She ultimately chooses Charlie the awkward delivery boy? And in the former episode, Marcia enters Davy's recording studio -- while he's recording no less -- without any problems? If you ask these questions then you definitely won't enjoy it. If you don't care about reality...then this is the best! Crank up "Girl" and drive your neighbors nuts!

A Great Show For Its Pure and Utter Stupidity
The Brady Bunch is a guilty pleasure of mine. It's ridiculously cheesey and stupid and unrealistic, but it's a great show to watch and make fun of. Plus it's a good show to help cheer you up, or to watch when you're sick.

Still, it's pretty stupid. I mean (everyone knows this already) the Brady family is SO perfect, what with the dad always giving horrible speeches everytime the kids say something mean to each other (they don't much, though), but most of the time he just does the ridiculous speeches for no reason. The kids are terriblly happy all the time, and the situations they always get themselves into are just plain dumb!

Carol Brady (Florence Henderson) is only there to say stuff like "Oh, Mike," or "Your father's right." The kids are all very one dimensional yet fun to watch. Alice does nothing but say dumb jokes however I respect Ann B. Davis as an actress (not that she is one anymore).

Of course everyone also know that the late Michael Reed dispised this show, and he had good reason, especially with the way his character acts. Everyone seems to regret starring on this show! Serious. Just watch the E True Hollywood Story on The Brady Bunch, and see. Susan Olsen (Cindy) sais she's been stereotyped ever since. Barry Williams (Greg) claims it's now very hard to get a job, and Florence Henderson sais the show was to unrealistic, and so on.

Still, you gotta love the show. How can't you? The people that hate this show have no heart. I'm mean, it's a horrible show, but it's a wonderful show! Sound strange? Sorry, but come on, even you people who bash it here really love it, and you know it. Why? Because it's really entertaining, and some episodes are actually GOOD (the Hawaii episode early in the show).

Don't buy these DVDs, the show is on all the time. But do buy the Brady movies, they're hilarious!

David would feel terrible that he hurt your feelings. I've gotten to know him in the last few years, and he is sweet, charming, kind and considerate. Whatever happened at the concert you attended, he had his reasons for his behavior. He's not perfect - but then neither are ANY of us!! Please don't defile his character. The queen of diaries
I've studied Anne Frank for a long time but this is what started me to take an interist in Anne Frank. The movie starts from where the nazis take over amsterdam to where otto finds the diary. I never thought that there was so much more to her story then what I already knew. Hannah Taylor Gordon looks exactly like Anne, they couldn't have gotten a better actor if they tried, not to mention someone who writes just like her. Jessica manley did a great job as Margot bu she was kinda of short to be Margot, and hopefully, Margot would have changed her mind about moving to palistien after all the suicide explosions they've been doing to the isralis lately. Ben kingsley looked exactly like otto frank and if I didn't know it was him, I'd say it was Otto Frank. Brenda Blythen loked alot like Mrs. Van Pels and was funny too. Joachim Krol looked a little like r. van pels except the real Mr. v.p. looked alot older. Jan niklas looked a little like Mr. Pfeffer but like Mr. v.p. Mr. p looked alot older. Lili Taylor looked kinda like Miep and sounded austrian just like the real Miep. Rob Das looked alot like Jan gies and was real good at his part. Tatjuna blacher looked a little like Edith and was bossy with anne just like anne discribed her in her diary. It was such a touching movie and I recommend this to anyone who's a big fan of anne frank.

Anne Frank A Truly Touching Miniseries
Anne Frank: The Whole Story is a movie that goes beyond what almost all Holocaust stories do. It is touching to the human spirit and how Anne's soul never gave up until the very end. Hannah Taylor Gordon, who was in Jakob the Liar, turns in a superb performance as the Anne Frank. She is able to show us how Anne reacted to everyday life and the inevitable death of her sister, Margot. Ben Kingsley is amazing as Otto Frank, a quiet subdued man who loved his family and was the only one to survive.
The most extraordinary part of this miniseries is the fact that the story keeps on going after they are taking to the Nazi concentration camp. We are seeing the unthinkable horrors and how fortunate we are to have not been a Jew prisoner in that camp. The pain and suffering of Anne and Margot is so well brought up that we feel sorry for these girls with dreams of the future. It is no wonder that this earned an Emmy nomination.

Superb - only the English language detracts from the realism
I wholeheartedly agree with the majority of reviewers that this is the best account of Anne's life ever made - and one of the best holocaust movies ever made as well.

The acting is top-notch and Hannah Taylor Gordon is a real find -it is amazing how she is able to bring Anne's character to life.

The only thing that could theoretically be improved upon is to do the movie in the language(s) used in the real events - that is, mostly Dutch. As a Dutchman, I may seem prejudiced in favour of my own language but that's not it.

Dutch movies that portray 'international' events or persons almost always use the appropriate language(s) even if that results in a multilingual movie. To me, the story becomes less believable if Dutch and German characters are speaking English to each other, or if they have an unconvincing accent.
The same thing bugged me when I watched "The Discovery Of Heaven", which is also mostly set in the Netherlands.

Anyway, this is all hypothetical because: a) I see that a movie in Dutch would probably not be competitive internationally so it could never be made with a similar budget; and b) that would mean that the great cast used in this movie wouldn't have been in it.

So I'm not really complaining; even if some aspect could theoretically be improved upon (at least according to my personal taste and preferences), it remains, in practice, one of the best ever made in its genre, and a must see for anyone seriously interested in that horrible episode in human history.

WOW
Fabulous! Absolutely worth your time. Every christian should have this in their video collection. Anythony Hopkins and Robert Foxworth do a phenominal job of portraying Peter and Paul. Though not perfect, a highly reliable, detailed and very accurate portrayal of those incredible days. Do yourself a favor, make church history real to your kids and new converts to the faith.

Review of "Peter and Paul" (1981)
I would like to mention that this movie was beautifully done. However, there are some places where I was able to tell that it was not Biblically accurate, especially when it approached the accounts in Chapter 15 of the Acts of the Apostles and Chapter 2 of Paul's letter to the Galatians. (Any person who has done careful research of the Bible can point out these flaws.) Peter was not arguing with Paul about the letter from the Church in Jerusalem, which he (Paul) did not reject, but rather separating himself from Gentiles due to fear of being seen like this by certain Jews. Moreover, Judas and Silas were not the Jews who were sent by James and they came to Antioch earlier with Paul and Barnabas while Peter came at a different time. In addition, the Bible does not give any clear evidence that Peter and Paul had been so hostile to one another. I think that people should read Act 15 and Galations 2 carefully before saying that this production is "Biblically accurate" and do some other research as well.

I would, fortunately, like to say that I had not objection to the fact that the movie dwelt far more on Paul than it did on Peter although many important Biblical events surrounding Peter were left out.

A great film
I thoroughly enjoyed the video plus got insight into the importance of both figures in the history of the church. The acting was superb, and the pace was great. It was informative but never tried to be a documentary of strictly "this happened and then that happened." A few liberties may have been taken with the textual account, but it was not disruptive or salacious or even detrimental to the whole effort. On the whole, I would endorse it wholeheartedly, particularly to those who are interested in church history and who want a video with a realistic "feel" for the period portrayed.

My search was over!
I had seen this on T.V. many years ago. I never thought it would be out on video, but began asking at video stores and looking in video catalogs. Then I was given a comptuer. When I became comfortable with the internet and was introduced to Amazon.com, I took a wild chance and......my search was over! The price was right and it was shipped quickly and in perfect condition. This is right out of the Bible. But seeing it on screen makes the relationship between these two men and the events that surround them so much clearer. It is a well done, well acted interpretation of the stories. Uneven (like most bios), but not without its rarities.
This film is a curiosity more than anything else. I rented it years ago and found it uneven at best. Like most of MGM's alleged 'composer biographies,' it distorts the details of the composer's actual life (in this case, Broadway stage/operetta afficionado Sigmund Romberg) and hangs all of his magnificent songs on an all-star coatrack. And there lies the attraction: seeing Gene Kelly in his only on-screen appearance with real-life brother Fred; seeing Jose Ferrer's bride Rosemary Clooney in her fresh-faced beauty and ear-delicious voice; watching grande dame soprano Helen Traubel sing "Aufwiedersen" to a dying Merle Oberon; and most of all seeing Ann Miller blend the Charleston with her signature tap dancing (I'm not kidding) and superbabe Cyd Charisse in probably the single most erotic dance performed on film: an Arabian Nights-influenced duet with James Mitchell to the song "One Alone." And how she moves in that all-lace, form-fitting gown is anyone's guess.

Not So Deep
I'm conducting a wake for Rosemary Clooney (Born May 23, 1928. Died June 30, 2002.) I read "Girl Singer: an autobiography" and got the conveniently packaged "Songs from the Girl Singer: a musical autobiography " CD set. Like Girranimals, the similarly titled pieces have the same picture on the front so that the purchaser will know that they go together. I heartily recommend both. But I can only give a mid-depth recommendation to "Deep In My Heart." Perhaps this is because of reading Rosemary's book and determining that the Star, Jose Ferrer, was a real-life scoundrel to her. And it may also have to do with my unfamiliarity with the Sigmund Romberg oeuvre. The joy and spectacle of the "Specialty numbers" with guest stars including Gene Kelley, Ann Miller (how does she even WALK in those super-high stilletos - let alone do that dazzling dance?,)Merle Oberlin's "Camille"-like turn, Ferrer's Jolson-esque "Jazza Do" synopsis, and the piece de resistance: the "Mr. And Mrs." song and dance duet by Ferrer and his real-life newlywed bride, Rosemary Clooney, make this an Oldie worth renting, but I'm not going to rush to buy a copy.

Such beautiful music!
This movie is a real pleasure to watch. Good, old-fashioned entertainment with lots of singing and dancing. Jose Ferrer is a surprisingly good song and dance man in this story of Sigmund Romberg, the man who wrote the music for The Student Prince, Desert Song, Maytime, and many others. There are production numbers from many of his shows featuring famos stars in cameos and a little romance, too. A heartwarming film for music lovers!

Great Music, Cast, and Film
A biography of Sigmund Romberg, the musical and operetta composer. Anything which features his music must have some good features, but this is superlative all the way around. Jose Ferrer is charming as Rommie, Merle Oberon gives a nice performance as his love interest, and the list of cameos is starry, with Rosemary Clooney shining in one number and the great operatice soprano Helen Traubel singing "Softly" as it must be, a touching plea full of torment, angst, and ultimately acceptance. Beautiful technicolor, good direction. Very amusing, filled with some of the best songs ever written, and beautifully performed and captured on film.

Great dancing
The only thing good about the movie is the dancing. Gene Kelly, Cyd Charisse, and Ann Miller. They are 3 of the best dancers and you won't see anything like this again. ... Read more

A Great Vacation
"Blame It On Rio" is like taking a great vacation of fun, sun and no inhibitions. The setting is beautiful Rio de Janeiro and the film gives an honest impression of the city...beautiful beaches, Bossa Nova flavored music, tropical climate. Michael Caine is hilarious, Joseph Bologna a perfect comical foil to Caine, Michelle Johnson sweet and innocent(?), and Demi Moore likeable and levelheaded. I saw this movie for the first time when I was about Michelle Johnson's age and when I saw the film recently, it brought back wonderful memories of that time in the 80s. The film is a not-so-implausible plot of a middle-aged man (Caine) spending a vacation in Brazil with his daughter (Moore),his best friend (Bologna) and his best friend's daughter (Johnson). Valerie Harper plays Caine's wife, who backs out of the vacation to Rio at the last minute and packs for Bahia. "Must have been the free and easy laughter in the air...must have been the moonlight on the sea..." Caine has an affair with his best friend's daughter (Johnson)and the comedy ensues. "Blame It On Rio" is just plain old fun with great scenery, great quotes (Johnson to Caine "That's not you life line, that's your heart line" and Caine's reply "Teeny little thing isn't it"), and great comedy!

Good movie to watch late at night
"Blame It On Rio" is one of my favorite films. The great scenery of Rio De Janeiro is one of the perks of watching this. It's kinda like watching a travelogue of the city that's a 24-hour carnival. The film is packed with memorable lines as well ("They looked at us, let's go talk to them,"says Victor. "They're practically nude," Matthew states. Victor's response? "Try to picture them with clothes on"). Michelle Johnson won a Razzie for her performance as Jennifer, which I didn't think was that bad. Demi Moore's performance, on the other hand, takes some getting used to. Michael Caine, always the top-rate performer, doesn't disappoint in this one. His performance is honest and well-meaning. There are one small fault in the film though: the soundtrack. I'm not talking about the bossa-nova or nightclub music, but the outdated 80s music. There is one song in the film that gets played over and over again. By the end of the film, the song will not leave your head LOL. That doesn't matter though. It doesn't take away the film's entertainment value. It is still a fun film to watch and make you laugh.

very funny and very sexy
I saw this movie when it first came out back in 1984, and it has always stuck in my mind as a very fun movie. The movie opens with two middle-aged men, both of whom are going through difficult marriages. One (Joseph Bologna) is getting a divorce and the other (Michael Caine) finds his marriage on the rocks. They travel to Rio on a vacation with their teenage daughters, but without their wives, in order to forget about their marital troubles. Because the daughters replace the wives on this vacation, it creates a vaguely incestous tension. In one of the movie's early scenes, Bologna's daughter (Michelle Johnson) and Caine's daughter (Demi Moore) are bare breasted as they walk up to their fathers on the beach. Moore seems somewhat shy as her hair mostly covers her chest, but Johnson is clearly very confident and proud of her breasts. Her father asks her to cover her breasts and she refuses. Though the direct incestous tension between father and daughter doesn't go any further than this, the sexuality definitely builds between Johnson and dad's friend Caine to the point where they are soon having an affair.

The affair creates a series of situations that are downright hilarious, and many scenes had me rolling on the floor laughing. For the guys in the audience, Michelle Johnson is definitely gorgeous and we get to--well--see a lot of her, and she seems very comfortable and happy with her nudity. Demi Moore plays a more minor role both in terms of nudity and in terms of her character. The movie is not intended to make any grand in-depth statement, and is probably not very accurate about Brazil, but if you want a light-hearted, sexy comedy it would be hard to do much better.

On a personal note, this movie was something of a rite of passage for me because it was, I believe, the first movie showing adult nudity that I ever saw on the big screen. I still thought of myself as a bit of a kid at the time, and I thought of topless and nude scenes as something that adults (i.e. people a lot older than me) did. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that Michelle Johnson was exactly the same age as me (we were both born in Sept 1965). I came to the conclusion that if an actress my age were doing topless scenes, I must have reached adulthood myself.

The movie is a hilarious comedy without considering the nude scenes--since it is a sex comedy set on and around Rio's topless beaches, the nudity tends to fit right in. And because it is set in Rio (where 'the play gets done') the viewer is allowed to relax and take a vacation for a couple of hours, even if the characters aren't always relaxed in their antics. All in all, you won't find any deep statements about the world here, but it is a really fun movie.

The DVD is too dark
I wrote a 4-star review of the VHS version of this movie on 11/22/00. Later I bought the DVD version. The DVD was much darker. Some of the night scenes were almost completely black. This was annoying and made the DVD useless to me. It made no sense to me why they did this. The VHS version is great!

Funny and sexy
"Blame it on Rio" is a cute and funny film which manages to be a wish-fulfilment fantasy for middle-aged men, and tell a good story at the same time.

Michael Cane is perfect as the man in a doubful marriage, who is hit on suddenly by his best friend's daughter, Jennifer, played by the voluptous and pretty Michelle Johnson.

Of course that is a doubtful proposition, since he is over twice her age (Michelle was only eighteen when she played this), and since he is vacationing not only with her, but with her father, who is his best friend, and with his own daughter, who is her best friend!

The story is funny and entertaining, and Jennifer is dead sexy. I find it hard to imagine resisting if she threw herself at you.

It must be said that beautiful Demi Moore is underused as Nikki, the best friend. Especially in the underdressed scenes, too little of that. I suspect she was having ego problems against Michelle's bigger bosom. This would explain why she later got a boob job, as seen in (the underrated) Striptease. Very dumb move, in my opinion. Best stoner movie. Period.
My friends and I have been quoting lines from this movie for years. This is a true classic for any stoner. Best part of the movie is when Thurgood is smoking with Sir Smokealot and he says "I live for this s*it!!!, Get Away From Me Biatch!!!!" And of course who can forget "I'm gonna take your little mexican friend here and I'm gonna Kill him" "Yo, I'm cuban b" "Ah yes, cuban b". One of my favorite movies of all time. To those who say this movie sucks and think it gives stoners a bad name, STONERS ALREADY HAVE A BAD NAME YOU IDIOTS!!!! And yes I'm talking to you sunsparklesunshine. Who the hell listens to Aqua???? Anyways, this movie never stops getting funny, I've watched it a million times and will watch it a million more. Plus it has my favorite comedian, Dave Chappelle. Every time I get a 20 dollar bill I think of this movie. Better than How High and all the Fridays but those are still good. Not enough can be said about this movie in 1,000 words. 3rd best comedy just under Blazing Saddles and the Monty Python movies. Great movie.

"Have you ever seen the back of a 20-dollar bill, ON WEED??"
This movie is horrendously funny. Three friends, a black, white and a Cuban, start dealing drugs to get bail money for their friend Kenny. Along the way, their business does great, until larger powers get into the way. David Chapelle (who also appeared in Blue Streak, among other films) does a great job as Thurgood. Rachel True does a good job as his weed-hating girl too, she's hot. There are also a lot of stars who show up as guests in the film too. Among them are Snoop Dogg, Willie Nelson, Jon Stewart and a lot of others. Jim Breuer is hilarious in this movie too. "I got Jerry Garcia in a [pouch] man!", he makes himself up as a classic 1970's pothead hippie. If you're looking for the best weed comedy this side of Cheech and Chong, check this one out. The ending is hilarious too, I won't give it away. But this is classic.

"I Wanna Talk To Sampson!"
Half Baked has to be one of the funniest movies around. Even if you are not a weed smoker, you can enjoy this movie. I think the big misconception here is that one must be a pot smoker to enjoy this movie and it is not true. The movie is about 3 friends trying to raise bail money for their friend who was arrested for feeding a diabetic police horse junk food which resulted in the horse dying. That right there is reason enough to see this movie. The characters are great and there are so many funny scenes in this movie. It's a must see...and if you still have doubts, watch the movie just to see the scene where Bob Saget (The dorky dad from Full House) says "I used to suck d*ck for coke."

Nick Hinton's Stop being a Hater

I loved this movie.
No matter what religion you are or how you feel about witchcraft, if you enjoy good acting & a great storyline, you'll like this film. Both Bullock & Kidman are excellent & their characters are well-drawn, likable & familiar. Most women will relate to the loves & losses, trials & errors of these independent young women.

They are, of course, different in some ways. Born into a legacy of witches & dark history, the Owens females live under a curse that destroys any man who gets too close to them. (Then again, some of us may have felt 'cursed' more than once in our love lives...)

Bullock plays Sally, the levelheaded one who is determined to have a "normal" life. She falls in love early (w/a little crafty help from the aunts -Stockard Channing & Dianne Wiest), then marries & has two daughters who look exactly like she & 'Gillie' (Kidman). For a few years, Sally is blissfully happy until the day she hears the cricket chirp - a sign of impending death. After her husband is killed, Sally falls into a depression so deep that only her sister can pull her out.

They have an unbreakable bond - not only of blood & love, but of spirit. The strength of this bond actually saves Gillie's life, when she manages to hook-up with an evil madman who 'comes back' from death. The ending is quite well done.

This was a movie about belief, trust, family & a very old fight - good vs. evil. It was also about a love strong & pure enough to break a centuries-old curse, true enough to save a woman pulled in the depths of true evil. It is touching, satisfying & emotionally uplifting. Rent it! Then rent it again for the soundtrack alone!

Powerful Performance by Kidman
While many reviews are positive and a few of them negative in this section, I found it to be a fantastic tale about women and the Craft. Yes, Bullock could give a better performance, but I don't think it is about her or Kidman. Instead, I challenge all of the people who have written negative reviews to examine EVERY DAY LIFE and then watch the movie. I found this a heart-warming tale about the "magical" instances in our childhood. As a child, I was told of curses, boogey stories, voodoo, magic and it was left for me to decide what to believe. Depending on the viewer's BELIEFS, the story could or could not happen. The thing that I ultimately think made the movie was the special effects and the composition of the scenes. The director (Dunne) utilized them in a way that they did not stand out. Rather, the effects were blended seemlessly into the film. To those doubters, watch it first, then again, noting the effects. Only after the second time, decide wheather you like it or not. Overall, I found the movie (DVD) captivating. I will be buying this on DVD very soon.

To live and to die in strange circumstances.
This was a fun movie, a romp through a fantasy life of three generations of witches. The house was set somewhere in Maine but the action took place in some strange places. It almost makes one belief that witchcraft is alive and well in the modern age.

The two older witches were especially good. Sandra Bullock, on the other hand, was playing a continuation of her character in HOPE FLOATS, same funky outfits and the acting just the same.

These beautiful witches had the bad luck to always kill the men they love. No matter how many potions they tried to concoct, nothing ever came out right. The little ones had no special magic, and yet their peers called them witches just the same.

The living dead had eyes like Riddick. Now, I understand where he got his strength; he was already dead. What'd he have to lose?

I enjoyed this romp, but I have always been interested in how the women in Salem and along the Eastern coast were burned as witches. Even Guinevere in Richard Harris' version of CAMELOT was 'almost' killed as a witch. Thank God, she was rescued by her Sir Lancelot to waste away in a nunnery. What a price women have to pay when they love the wrong men!

Can love travel back in time and heal a broken heart? I like to think so.

Fantastic!
The story line is fantastic--that of friendship, sisterhood, attaining dreams, and love. This movie shows witches in a more realistic light incomparison to the ole tale of green skin and bubbling eyes of newt. It, also, shows the politics that they face due to these deeply rooted tales and lends hope that the general populus will become more embracing/accepting of others' beliefs--particularly that of earth-based religions. ... More atmosphere than shocks
"Hey, ya wanna see something REALLY scary?" Well, watch another movie. However, Twilight Zone: the Movie was one of my favorite movies of my college years. I enjoyed the original series, but was never a fanatic. What captivated me about this movie, in particular the 3rd and 4th segments, was the atmosphere established by the filmmakers. The first segment with Vic Morrow is undoubtedly the weakest...there were obviously some script changes necessary due to his tragic death, and what we're left with is a predictable, trite, and even cruel story of a bigot who spouts a few angry words at the beginning then pays for it a thousand-fold. It's like watching someone being slowly tortured to learn a lesson then executed at the end just to make SURE he learned his lesson. The second segment is syrupy, but has the wonderful Scatman Crothers and some amusing moments with the old folks turning into kids. The third segment was my favorite. I always thought some of those old cartoons from the thirties were very creepy in their surreal quality, and watching this segment is like watching someone's nightmare of those old cartoons gone berserk. Of interest is the doomed sister, Ethel, who later on became the voice of Bart Simpson...she really DID get stuck in Cartoonland! And the fourth segment is pretty wonderful too, due to a comic twist on the horror provided by the script and John Lithgow's performance. Towering above the entire movie, though, is Jerry Goldsmith's score...one of his best and one of my three favorite film scores of all time. It truly adds to the eerieness of the first, third and fourth segments and while the second section pours on the schmaltzy strings, on its own it makes a GREAT listen with a memorable theme.

Tribute Classic
OK, there are some flaws in this movie but overall it can only be considered a modern classic. From the aged nursing home to the racial biggot sequence suspense reigns giving pure entertainment. Why this has not been transferred to DVD is beyond comprehension. As a cinema movie it is one i have never forgotten, the type of movie that remains embedded for twilight zone lovers. You can imagine my disappointment when continually searching for it on DVD. My fingers remain crossed !

I Love Creedence (ClearWater Revival)
After 20 plus years, TWILIGHT ZONE:THE MOVIE has attained somewhat of a cult following and has maintained a level that it is not too outdated, but did not do the original tv series justice. The movie will be remembered mostly because actor Vic Morrow (tv's COMBAT) was killed during filming along with two children. The first segment KKK is an original entry, directed by John Landis and starring Vic Morrow. It is not too inventive and very predictable. Morrow has made a career of playing baddies from BLACKBOARD JUNGLE to THE BAD NEWS BEARS so he was perfectly cast as the bigot who gets caught in a time warp to experience the suffering of the two groups he hates the most (blacks and jews). There is a segment where he is supposedly in Vietnam which doesn't go anywhere (because the scenes that were to be part of this sequence is where he got killed) but the producers stuck it in anyway. The next segment KICK THE CAN is directed by Spielberg who was continuing his period of working with children carried over from his film E.T. (and would culminate to his work on HOOK). This is a typical Spielberg directed sequence with a standout performance of Scatman Crothers as the instigator who entices the residences of an old folks home to think young again. The third segment ITS A GOOD LIFE is probably the most bizarre taking the original story to a more light-hearted approach. A boy who has the power to make anything he wishes come true while holding his family and townspeople at bay (in terror) was much more scarier and serious in the original tv episode. Director Joe Dante's take on it is more of a cartoon with a surprisingly upbeat and happy ending compared to the original's very downbeat ending. Bill Mumy (tv's LOST IN SPACE fame)who played the boy in the original tv episode makes a cameo appearance in the beginning of the sequence, but the cast (Kevin McCarthy,William Schallert,Lonna Schwab,Nancy Cartwright{voice of tv's Bart Simpson}) who plays the boy's terrorized family is the best part of the sequence along with lead Kathleen Quinlan. Finally, the last (and probably the best) segment, NIGHTMARE AT 20,000 FEET is pretty close to the original tv episode compared to the other two segments. John Lithgow's performance as the frightened passenger who sees a gremlin on the wing of a plane which disappears when he tries to get others to look out the window is equal to that of William Shatner's performance from the original tv episode. The prologue with Dan Aykroyd and Albert Brooks is amusing if not prdictable and the movie as stated still holds up despite its faults. Note: Look for a young John Larroquette in a brief appearance in the first segmnet (KKK).

I wonder why this has been forgotten?
It really is a sad thing how critics and those who have viewed this find this film a lost cause or a pathetic outdated mess. Now the film is about 20 years old but it is still very good and fun to watch. People just constantly knock the film saying it's bits are weak and don't compare to the original series now that may be true but the film that it turned out to be it is worth laughing at and enjoying. You are not supposed to get scared by this film you are really supposed to laugh your butt off I find that kick the can story hilarious a little touching but come on "Fresh Young Minds" you just don't take words like that seriously. How about the story with Anthony O.K the special effects are a bit dated but who cares? that bit is so hysterical because the plot is trying to be serious but it just does not work instead you just end up laughing at how the people who Anthony has taken to his home are forced to sit around and watch Cartoons all day! The last story is probably the most thrilling of the four (That's probably why they saved it for last) because watching John Lithgow hysterical on that airplane with those people is just classic cinema in my opinion. You of course have your first story with Vic Morrow where the disaster happened O.K that bit is a little dark and distrurbing but the whole film is one big laugh after another what about when Dan Aykroyd and Albert Brooks are just driving down a road and singing dumb songs are bored out of there minds because there song "Let the Midnight Special" tape broke. If you want to see something really scary as Dan Aykroyd puts it in the film or just want to laugh your butt off at crazy cinema you'll like Twilght Zone The Movie.

Beverly Hills 90210 is one of my favorite shows!
This video is a must for anyone who loves 90210.It gives bits and pieces of the first two seasons, which brings back happy and sad memories of the characters.The video also talks about the character's feeling about graduating from high school and about leaving each other.If you have graduated or going to graduate from high school, this video will make you feel sad as you recall high school experiences.The saddest scene is at the end when they are looking at the sign that says, West Bev 93 and are staring at it.This is a video that you will love to own about all of the 90210 characters!

90210 is the best show on television!
I am a big huge Beverly Hills, 90210 fan! It's the coolest show on FOX, it even has a great soundtrack too. I watch the show all the time and all the actors are good. It's still a good show even though if it's been on for awhile. For those of you 90210 fans you can catch 2 episodes on FX every weekday at 4:00 and 5:00 (I think).

The sadness of 90210 ending
It is such a shame that 90210 had to go off the air. It was my favorite show ever since i've been alive. I will miss Luke Perry alot on T.V. I recorded almost every episode they made so at least the memories will stay with me forever. All I hope is that they make another show just like that. It really feels good to watch a great show and have the characters go through some of the same issues you might be going through. It was a great show and they did a great job. 90210 will be in memory forever...

Huge Fan from Brazil
I'm a huge, huge fan of BV 90210 from Brazil and I have never missed an episode of all ten seasons. I really look forward for their release on DVD!!! Beverly Hills 90210 definitely needs to be on DVD ASAP! I still watch the show everyday! Maybe this is the third time!!! But I NEVER get tired of it! I REALLY LOVE THE SHOW! I wish they would come out with all the DVDS soon.

i want to buy this video but with some of the reviews ive seen im not sure if i still want to. but i was young when the show started so i never watched it untill about the begining of 2004. see i really think luke perry (dylan mckay) is so hot so i started watching it and my dad records it every week day and on sat and sun. i love it so much! i wish they would come out with all the DVDS! season 1/10 cuz i would buy them all. i need to catch up with the early days. ... In Spanish too
I feel happy that tv series that I watched many years ago . Now I can get them in DVD, but these serios were no popular just in USA in other countries of Latin America was popular too. It should be make in Spanish too or with subtitles in several languages. Thanks

When's the DVD coming out????
I see all of these other old school TV shows coming out on DVD. Mission: Impossible was a great show and deserves its spot for a DVD release for each season.

Impossible to Match
I saw many of the Mission Impossible series as a teenager. I also read the original paperback book when it came out which was made as Vol. #7. Steven Hill playing Daniell Briggs (the first season)and Peter Graves ( all subsequent seasons) as Jim Phelps both play excellent as the genius mastermind Team leader of the Impossible Mission Force (IMF) a top American government group virtually unknown to the rest of the top secret agencies. During his college days Dan or Jim majored in psychology at a top west coast university and was a chess champion. The rest of the IMF is composed of the beautiful model and Fem Fatale, Cinnamon Carter played by Barbara Bain is excellent. The academy award winner, Martin Landau who eventually married Barbara plays Rollin Hand, the magician and master of disguise. Black actor, Greg Morris does a superb job as Barney Collier, electronics genius with a prestigious background. The strong man or weight lifting world record holder, William (Willie) Armitage played by Peter Lupus is the brawn on the Team. he certainly looked the part also. Together the IMF carries out missions against impossible odds to rescue people, con enemy states, and change the courses of governments for the betterment of the free world especially without causing wars. This first volume is excellent in introducing this Team of specialists with exciting and intruiging plots and ways the IMF thwarts and bamboozles the opponent in the pilot and also in the second story called the Photographer which Anthony Zerbe stars. All of the Mission Impossible series are excellent and demonstrates how things can be accomplished through nonviolent methods also. The CIA actually did accomplish some similiar things which are now becoming declassified. This show was one of my favorite TV shows in the sixties and early seventies. You will enjoy them as well!!

Introducing you to the Cold War and the IMF Team
"Mission Impossible" originally ran from 1966 and 1973, telling tales of the Impossible Mission Force, a group of highly specialized government agents who were usually involved in disrupting the activities of small foreign powers trying to mess with the United States and the Free World. The group leader, Daniel Briggs (Steven Hill) in the first season and Jim Phelps (Peter Graves) for the rest of the show's run, put together the team and developed the complex plan to pull off the impossible mission; Cinnamon Carter (Barbara Bain) was the the beautiful female member of the team, Rollin Hand (Martin Landau) the master of disguise, Barney Collier (Greg Morris) was the electronics expert, and William Armitage (Peter Lupus) the muscle.

This first tape in the "Mission Impossible" series has the pilot and a choice episode from the show's second season. In the pilot episode (9/17/66), Wally Cox plays a safecracker who has to sneak into the vault of a hotel to steal a couple of nuclear warheads from a military dictator. This was the only episode of the show written by series creator Bruce Geller. This is not a classic episode per se, but it clearly sets the template for the entire series. "The Photographer" (12/17/67), written by two of the show's most productive writers, William Read Woodfield and Allan Balter, deals with biological warfare. Enemy agents intend to spread pneumonic plague and a top photographer (Anthony Zerbe) is the key contact. The IMF fakes a nuclear attack on New York to get the key to the code. Yes, there is a large degree of irony in watching this particular episode today, but remember what things were like in the Sixties. "The Photographer" is a classic MI episode and along with the pilot makes this an excellent tape to have for fans of the series.

Final Note: For my money the title sequence for this show is definitely one of the ten best ever, not just because of Lalo Schifrin's memorable theme music but because of the way shots from the episode were mixed in with the burning fuse and shots of the cast. You always saw enough to get interested in what was to happen, but they never let the cat out of the bag enough to ruin the episode.
