4-0 out of 5 stars Judd Rocks!
This was the film that proved Judd Nelson could really stand on his own. During the brat pack films he always seemed to dissolve in the background but From the Hip forces you to pay attention to Judd's comedic charm. Judd plays a lawyer a little over his head and too starved for attention. He illegally wins his first case only to turn around and find the hardest case of his life, a major murder. The first half of the film is straight comedy but the second turns dramatic and dark as John Hurt ( the film's murder suspect ) brings us into his disturbing world of being impotent and the fact that he may have killed a young woman. Judd shines in this like only he can and if there is one film any Judd Nelson fan should see at least once, it is From The Hip. I highly recommend it so enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars surprizing twists and turns
This movie entranced me on the first viewing. You see, it begins with young, cocky lawyers trying to get ahead. Two of them work at a highly reguarded law-firm. In a trail that to say the least is comical we are led down a path thinking the movie will be light and funny. Suddenly, with the second trial the viewer is thrust deep into a murder trial! The defendent is a quirky, wierd scary type who seems smarter than the young lawers but also crazy at the same time. the movie gets more and more serious as we find out the killer is trying to force people to his will. The young lawyer is caught between a rock and a hard place. IF he gets the creep off he knows a killer got away with it. If he lets the truth come out he could lose his carreer. The swing of emotions from the comic trial to the serious ending is about a dramatic as any movie I have ever seen. I still havent had another film drag me to laughter and then fear. Highly recommened.

4-0 out of 5 stars Where'd the 80s go?
David E. Kelley's magical scripting in Ally McBeal was predated by this early Judd Nelson star vehicle, somewhat fresh off his "Breakfast Club" fame. While it's completely preposterous that any lawyers would be able to bark at judges and defendants alike, you can't deny this is an entertaining movie.

It's a bit talky at times, and the ending is somewhat anti-climactic, but it's got a few things going for it; the script, a decent mix of comedy and drama, and John Hurt as the ambiguous Douglas Benoit--his best role since his turn as "Caligula" of "I, Claudius" fame.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funniest Legal Film and John Hurt's most disturbing role
This is an odd film. It contains some of the most funny moments a courtroom has ever seen ("a hearing to decide the admissability of the word 'ass'? I love it!") combined with one of the most distrubing psycho portrayls I've seen. John Hurt is magnificently unnerving in his acting, while Judd manages to carry some of the most memorable courtroom antics ever. And I didn't even mention the DA's dildo....

5-0 out of 5 stars The Reason I Went to Law School
This movie is the reason I went to law school. (No kidding, and I'm sure it influenced others my age to do the same but they'd never admit it). It's idealism, glory and sarcasm...and the movie is not too bad either. John Hurt probably should have recieved an Oscar nomination. - Liam ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Feel Good Movie !!!
This movie is by far my husbands favorite movie! He has watched it numerous times. I can't get him away from the TV set when it is on. I really wish they would put this movie on DVD because it rightly deserves to be there. It is a great movie. It has everything a movie needs action, drama, excitement and any other words I could think of other than GREAT !!! Maybe someday they will put it on DVD and we will get a clearer picture. I definately would buy it in a heartbeat! Once you watch it you will have to watch it over and over and over again. It is a great movie!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Touching
I have four brothers and this movie does a great job showing a "brother's love". If you are synical and like to pick everything apart you probably won't think much of this movie but if you have a heart and like feel good movies, you'll love it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Memories.
This movie is the most memorable movie in my existance. In 1985 this played on HBO shortly after its release and it has a special meaning in my life. I was 17 at the time. My girlfriend Debbie and I had a joke that everytime we turned on the TV, "Turk 182" would be on... and it was! It's a great movie, with the same passion of "Taps". Rent or buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars just for the name
think about it, maybe blink 182 got their name from this movie. If it was called turk 185, they might of called the band blink 185. Certainly not the same. God bless this movie for getting made. Im deffintly looking forward to viewing it in the future.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's a great little film
If you're a fan of Tim Hutton.. then you already have this in your collection.. This is a great little film, with a predictable storyline, but the characters draw you in, simply because of the talented actors that bring this this quirky little tale of brotherly love to life... and its worth the price simply for Kim Catrall ... 3-0 out of 5 stars A sleeper of a film
This film is more brooding than bloodletting. A vampire with Angst decides to tell his woes to a beautiful Charile (are they real?) Spralding (she's just as beautiful in Meridian: Kiss of the Beast).

He's about to bite her, then tells her of his woes. Then he's just about to bite her, & he decides he's a few more woes to tell about. This continues for the rest of the film till they finally 'do it' in a scene that I beleive is only PG-rated.

It must be tough to be a vampire. It was tough watching this film.

3-0 out of 5 stars An Unusual Vampire Film
Here we find Scott Valentine playing a vampire who goes out searching for somebody who wishes to die when his bloodlust finally gets so strong he can't put off killing any longer. This time he chooses a [prostitute] who seems to be at the end of her rope. As it turns out, the [prostitute] is more than a handful and a bizarre friendship is born. At the end of the night, one of them will end up with a new will to live and one of them will die . . . but which one will live? It's and engaging film if you like the brooding type of vampires and it's set in modern times. It's certainly not of the caliber of some of the better known films in the genre but I'd nonetheless recommend it for your vampire film collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars A gem of a film...for some.
This is absolutely one of my all-time favorite films, and it's difficult to explain why. It's not a porn flick though one of the protagonists happens to be a stripper (well-played by Charlie Spradling) and yes, there's nudity. Ultimately the film explores two troubled people; a lonely vampire and a suicidal dancer. Like a cult film, it may not appeal to the general public, but will resonate nonetheless with those able to appreciate what the story's really about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Under Rated Vampire Flic
From the reviews I read on this movie I was expecting typical B movie fair. Yes it's B movie, but high end B. Resonable acting, interesting plot line, and novel twist on the vampire story. Personally I enjoy varity and like vampire movies which dare to play with the conventions. I wonder at the reviews which call this soft porn. This is only mildly erotic in my opinion. Most main stream films have more sex and show more flesh. Watch this because you like vampire flics not for an erotic thrill.

3-0 out of 5 stars A watchable "B" movie for a night with your partner
This is what I would call soft porn. Being a vampire buff myself I rather enjoyed the mix of eroticism and vampirism. Now don't get me wrong - this is definitely a "B" movie. We're not talking grammy nominations here. But if you like vampire movies and feel like a night in with your honey, this may be for you. Warning: some parts of the plot go extremely slow and the acting is a bit weak - but all in all it's certainly not the worst movie I've ever viewed. My advice - rent, don't buy, and give it a try. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Middle of the road. That's it, and that's all!
This movie is nothing more than an attempt to cash in on the first one's success. Julian Sands once again returns as Satan's son, but he seems to be sleepwalking this go-round. Two disposable teenage actors (Paula Marshall and Christopher Young), play two descendants of Druid warriors who are the ONLY people who can fight the Warlock and prevent him from releasing Satan into Earth. Oh, and there are six rune stones or something he has to possess to unlock Satan from the bowels of the Earth (etc.etc.). You get the idea.

Anyway, this has some pretty decent effects, and some pioneering computer animations, but all in all, it's a very weak film, and, putting the special effects aside, there's not much left but incompetent acting and cheap thrills. If you like the Warlock films or love Julian Sands, buy this one, or if you're curious, buy it, but overall, you could skip it without really missing anything.

3-0 out of 5 stars ANTHONY HICKOX DOES IT AGAIN!
Warlock:The Armageddon is an enjoyable watch. I bought this DVD because 1.Anthony Hickox directed it. 2.Monika Schnarre has a small part in it. I hadn't seen it before when I purchased this film, but I enjoyed it. I love what Anthony Hickox did with this sequel. The special effects, a good cast. I love Paula Marshall (from 'Hellrasier 3)- what a talented and likeable actress. I got a thrill seeing Monika Schnarre again in a small part as a runway model.

I hope that anthony Hickox would make more films like this.

1-0 out of 5 stars Druidism and Satanism?
I have to say, that I am really into Horror-Films, also if they have a satanic touch; but when I saw, that this film is a mixing of old pagan-rites with satanic rites I came into rage. For myself Wicca and celtic Rites of Paganism are wonderful Ways and I learned, that Pagans do not believe in Satan! So, this story is one of the worst, I've ever seen! If the producer would describe kabbala-rites, which would be more suitable than pagan-rites, this film would be a little bit more interesting...

But sorry, Paganism and Satanism... nothing has to do with each other...

5-0 out of 5 stars You gotta love it
It is easy to see why this movie has with DVD reached cult status. It is John Woo perfect on the conflict between loyalty and integrity, with only two-thirds of the blood. "I love bananas because they have no bones and I hate peaches, because they have stones" - you gotta love it.

3-0 out of 5 stars What about the soundtrack?
I wish if someone could help me telling me the names of the groups (or musicians) who make the soundtrack of this movie, because I found it real great.
Thank you.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's beautifull.
I liked the laid back feel it has.
What I remember most about the movie is the couple and their relationship. I like them because they are witty and strong, and they love each other in a sweet, loyal way that is the total opposite of the saccharine, phony romances I keep seeing in Hollywood films. They are grown-ups and they look like real people and they're charismatic individuals. That's a very needed break from all the bratty, spoiled silly, no-brain teenage movies the movie industry tries (to no avail) to force down my throat.
If it were a samurai movie or something, placed in such an alien and exotic place that your moral code somehow doesn't apply anymore, I wouldn't wonder "Why am I rooting and feeling for a couple or payed assassins?" But although it is placed in our world and our time it's like it's another dimension where it's OK for criminals to be talking to you about morals. They make me want to believe, which just might be the best compliment one can pay to a movie.
I would definitely buy it. And the boss is the giant in Harry Potter.

4-0 out of 5 stars ¿Nothing Personal¿
'Nothing Personal', as this movie was originally and more aptly titled, is a low-key, darkly funny and engaging depiction of a dysfunctional 'family' of professional assassins in the throes of an internal power struggle. Claire (Kyra Sedgwick) and Nick (Stanley Tucci), a killer team with a romantic past, are sent to retrieve a wayward money-runner who has sold-out their boss (Robbie Coltrane). Thrust into the middle of a plot involving shifting alliances, challenged loyalties and crooked self-actualization theory, the attentive veiwer will be rewarded with many small moments that add up to a movie more substantial than it appears at first blush.

Strong points: The Hoebers' taut script; Director Leitzes' willingness to allow us to deduce much of the movie's background story w/out condescending paint-by-numbers scenes or lame expository dialogue; an effective cast featuring Sedgwick and Tucci's gently expressed adult partnership facing an inexorable fate; Philip Seymour Hoffman's unctuously ambitious provocateur; John Ritter's brief but effectively weighty performance; and perhaps most impressive, Robin Tunney's momentum building depiction of the consistently underestimated 'Kitty'.

Weak points: Coltrane's 'Boss' seems a bit scattered and inexplicably motivated; a few loose ends in the plot; a vaguely un-anchored setting devoid of police, witnesses or collateral damage.

$8.50 moments: Response of two assassins to being ordered to kill Nick; Claire's turn-about at the tree (and the little boy who drops in); Nick's impression of Elmer Fudd.

This movie's outlook and humor is reminiscent of some of the lack of "honor among thieves" and violence-based humor seen recently in 'Out of Sight' and 'Grosse Pointe Blank' (admittedly better movies). So, if you enjoyed those 'adult' comedies, I'd wager you won't regret spending ninety-odd minutes with 'Montana'.

"$8.50 moment": the point in a movie when you feel you definitely got your money's worth (value determined by the current average cost of a movie ticket in NYC).

2-0 out of 5 stars Not set in Montana
Beware: this is set basically entirely in New York, because that's where MOBSTERS hang.

If you're looking for the Z-Grade "Clay Pigeons" "Montana's" title and genre suggest, try "Route 9" instead. This film's been tagged with the dreaded "failed Tarnatino clone" label, and with good reason. ... Read more

This film's been tagged with the dreaded "failed Tarnatino clone" label, and with good reason. ... Read more

My advice - rent, don't buy, and give it a try. ... Read more
