When he emerged from film school in the mid-1980s, director Phil Joanou was touted as the next Steven Spielberg, perhaps because Spielberg took him on as a protégé briefly. Since then, it's been "Phil who?" thanks to a series of mediocre thrillers like this one. Based on one of a series of novels by James Lee Burke about a troubled ex-cop named Dave Robicheaux, this film sat on the shelf for a couple of years before finally being released in 1995. Alec Baldwin plays Robicheaux, a recovering alcoholic who has put life on the New Orleans police department behind him--until a plane crashes in the lake next to his house. He rescues a young Central American girl from the wreck and adopts her--and winds up involved in a gumbo of drug running and dirty dealing involving an old pal named Bubba. Tip-off that this movie should have gone straight to video: Bubba is played by Eric Roberts. Redeeming feature (at least for men, who are all dogs, as everyone knows): a Teri Hatcher nude scene. --Marshall Fine ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A poor adaption of a very good book
My main problem with the movie is the casting of Alec Baldwin as the lead character. He is miscast, and should stick to the pretty boy characters he usually plays. His attempt at a bayou accent is ludicrous, for example. Surprisingly, Terri Hatcher does a convincing job in her role. My advice? Read the book, and skip the video.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very underrated movie.
This is quite simply a 4-star production of a 5-star book. Many people only rented a copy to fast forward straight to the Teri Hatcher nude scene, while some actually wanted to see the screen adaptation of a wonderful book by James Lee Burke.

Many seem to attack Alec Baldwin's portayal of the lead character, Dave Robicheaux, but I actually think he did a very respectable job. Sure his Cajun accent wasn't 100% dead on, but that isn't all that makes a character. The Robicheaux character, throughout the series of books, is a flawed character that is full of heart and that is exactly how it comes across on-screen. It seems as if every other role was perfectly cast, especially the role of Claudette (played by Teri Hatcher). Every last detail is done perfectly, from the accent down to the sultry demeanor.

The plot brings plenty of action scenes, with many scenes that bring out emotion. If the production studio hadn't been nearly broke when this movie was made (and subsequently put on the shelf for a couple of years), therefore going vastly unpublicized, it would have been more successful at the box office. Don't let the numbers fool you, this is quite a film.

The Teri Hatcher balcony scene sure helps too!

4-0 out of 5 stars Overlong but great acting and atmosphere
Not sure why this one was trashed by critics when it came out in 1996. I think maybe they were just looking for a reason to cut loose on Alec Baldwin. Who knows? While no one's idea of a classic, it's still a damn fine little neo-noir thriller.

Alec Baldwin does an excellent job in the lead and Eric Roberts just about steals the movie with a characterization that is at once frightening and goofily ingratiating.

It's a shame this one was thrown away and abandoned during it's theatrical release because it seems like director Phil Joanou hasn't done much of anything since. That's too bad because he's a great director (see his STATE OF GRACE and FINAL ANALYSIS also).

Give it a chance!

4-0 out of 5 stars Give it a chance....
I for one love the flick. I thought that Alec Baldwin played Dave Robicheaux very well. Also I thought that Eric Roberts as Bubba Rock was an inspired choice. And it wasn't the actor's fault that the film sat on a shelf for years. They just got caught in the crumbling of Orion Studios. Thus no promotion was assigned to the film when it finally emerged. The saddest thing that may have occurred was that it cooled the creation of further films based upon the other Dave Robicheaux novels. I always felt that John Goodman would have made a grand Cletus Purcell!

4-0 out of 5 stars Guys, Listen...
Sure, everyone buys the video for the Teri Hatcher nude scene. You might as well...it did such bad box office that it went straight to TBS (minus nudity)so you won't be recording the unedited original off cable. You could just download the pix from a hundred sites, but dang rabbit, Teri is so sexy in this film that you want to get the whole thing. And while everyone criticizes Alex Baldwin's Cajun accent, Hatcher gets it smooth as silk. Girls, Listen...I didn't read the book. My wife did. And we agreed to see the film after seeing the trailer. She votes thumbs up. As a licensed private detective, I'm not sure I buy the uncoastered Gin Rickey water-mark taste test but, as Johnny Carson liked to say "You buy the premise--you buy the bit." I bought it on VHS. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An exciting movie from start to end.
This movie is so interesting. It keeps you on suspense the whole time. A good movie from the nearly past and to see the begining of Kari Wuhrer filmography.

4-0 out of 5 stars Paranormal B movie at it's best
Sex, lies, sex, mystical powers, sex dreams and a murder mystery to boot!

This erotic thriller stars Kari Wuhrer, who is a young student with the ability to pick up 'sensations' of objects about they're owners. Eric Roberts is a college professor who wants to study her gift.

What he's failed to mention is that these objects belong to a dead student, and he is suspect number one... By the time Kari finds this out she's sucked in too deep to walk away, haunted by erotic dreams, and a need to help the dead girl who is taking over her life. But does Eric want to help her, or silence her?

OK, the sting in the tale isn't to hard to guess, but Sensation is still an enjoyable movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must-see for Eric Roberts fans!
When I first saw this on cable TV, I was blown away! For suspense lovers, there is plenty of mystery and unsuspected turns to keep you guessing. For Eric Roberts lovers, there are some really great screen shots of the actor... especially the fantasy/day-dream sequences which are done in blue-tint and slow motion. Steamy, steamy! Very erotic, but not distasteful. You'll love it.

4-0 out of 5 stars i thought that it was very erotic

2-0 out of 5 stars "They smile in your face...."
Skinny leads who confuse sadomasochism for a meaningful relationship double-cross one another along with John Lithgow, until everyone, by default, is double-crossing him- or herself, not to mention everyone in the phone book whose surname starts with the same letter as theirs.  If this is your idea of entertainment, seek this one out.  I'm thinking of feeding mine to the dumpster.  Two stars, and only because the brilliant John Lithgow can make anything worth watching while he's on the screen.

5-0 out of 5 stars WWW reviews LCS
A stylish keep 'em guessing thriller with top-notch talent and clever twists and dialogue. The writer-director really knows his stuff and keeps the pace moving. Roberts is excellent as are many of the secondary characters. Unfortunately, the girl isn't very good. Five stars. Better than anything on TV and much of what's on the big screen.

4-0 out of 5 stars LC$S review
A tight noirish thriller with some surprising twists and turns. Definately a cut above the usual fare. I especially liked the acting and the look of the picture. Writer-director Curran gets high marks for his stylish direction on a shoe-string budget and his imaginative plot and snappy dialogue. A top recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars ERIC ROBERTS' BEST MOVIE
Eric Roberts probably deserved an award for his performance in this flick. Roberts plays a convicted bank robber who was set up and sent to jailby his ex-wife who he discovers has since married a rich banker in California. . Roberts breaks out of jail, kills 2 guards, promptly bangs a girl he picks up at a landromat and then proceeds to find his ex-wife and make her life a living hell. I don't want to give the whole movie away, but it's worth the buy. The whole cast is pretty good (John Lithgow, Madchin Amick, etc.) Eric Roberts is a sinister sociopath and this is a vintage performance for him. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars love is a gun
new guy on the job; forensic photographer, dabbling in model photo's after hours.

His current girl friend is "getting old"; thus, enters a new "love interest" (equally manipulative/controlling). Now, add in his implication into the murder of his "new love interest";. . . a stressful ride over the edge !

This seamless, stress-filled descent into insanity may be "live, or Memorex ?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Hitchcock...Hartwell
Ignore the cheesy title - David Hartwell has delivered a powerhouse of a suspense. Granted, the performances are dated, (Eric Roberts and Kelly Preston have definitely honed their skills more since this film was made.) However, watch the movie through to the end at least once...have a little faith. With its refreshingly twisted plot, "Love Is A Gun" restores my faith in the modern suspense.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best film I've ever seen!!!
This movie is, quite possibly, the best movie ever made...I mean, there is a lot to say for some of the classics, but I have never sat on the edge of my seat for so long. After watching this movie half a dozen times, I still can not get enough!

5-0 out of 5 stars THe most best ever!
HOLY MOLY! Viper AKA Bad Blood! is only the best ever! Holy, I saw it last night and BAM!! I was struck by a true diamond, a diamond in the rough of course! Just look at the cover: a guy with huge muscles and a gun with "BAD BLOOD" words written in letters that have been smashed or shot maybe! The whole film is like the most amazing ever, but there is no beating the final scene where a huge gold eagle swoops down and steals the gun from the gangster Tony "Souce Mes Boules" Panapizzah (I think! I can't hear my TV sometimes!...) and lets the blond girl Cherry get off the cruise ship alive. PARENTS: Not good for kids because it has lots of people snorting coke! So watch out and watch this because it is coming to a VCR near you! To quote Viper himself, "This..." movie "..isn't over till its over!" and when its over push rewind again until your VCR is no longer an operational machine! Ah-woo!...

4-0 out of 5 stars Two women bikers search for their souls on the road.
Here we have a movie with an honest-to-Goddess STORY moving it along. No explosions, no gunfire, no special effects, no car chases. Just a damned good movie about two women who hit the road on their motorcycles, and find their souls while surfing the asphalt.

Melissa Behr and Sherrie Rose [motorcycle enthusiasts in real life] teamed up to write, produce, direct, AND star in ME AND WILL. It's the story of two women, Will and Jane--- burned out from the LA club-and-drug scene---who meet in rehab. They decide to set off on a Holy Mission: To find the chopper ridden by Peter Fonda in EASY RIDER. So they bust out of rehab and point their Harleys toward Montana, where Will is certain the Captain America bike has been stored lo these many years.

Will and Jane struggle with personal demons as they ride. Besides the temptation to use drugs, there are lingering "family of origin" problems which haunt them. Their friendship grows as they open up to each other, help each other, and encounter a variety of unusual---and sometimes frightening---people on the road.

Speaking of the road, get ready for some spectacular scenery. And the road sequences are set to some great tunes; anyone who sees these scenes and isn't tempted to jump on a Harley and head out on that highway probably has their spirit up on blocks.

In the end, things work out as they often do in real life: A spirit-lifting victory, albeit a victory intermingled with a poignant loss. Be sure to watch the credits all the way through, because there's a surprise second ending well worth waiting for...

If this film doesn't go down in history as the female EASY RIDER I'll be very surprised. And disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Me and Wil
My wife and I, both avid riders, enjoyed this movie very much. We have seen it twice. I normally do not purchase movies, and of the very few I would consider, this will be one, (as soon as the price drops)! You get something different out of it each time. The women who starred in it do a wonderful, convincing job of the characters they portray. At times, it seems almost like a documentary in its reality. No Hollywood BS or hype in this film! What an independent should be! Anyway, my wife and I hope we will be seeing more from Melissa and Sherrie in the very near future. These two women are what independent film makers are all about.

4-0 out of 5 stars easyrider copied
For those old enough to have experienced Easyrider (1969), Me and Will holds no new vibes. That does not qualify this movie in a negative way, however. Being admittedly interwoven with Easyrider, Me and Will provides good entertainment. For a far wider audience than only motorbike-adepts. Its logic and appealing story refers to freedom and escape from daily routines. Its shots are fine, in particular those from the American countryside. For the fans of Traci Lords: she has a tiny role as a waitress, and does well.

3-0 out of 5 stars Well at least it's a motorcycle movie
As motorcycle movies go, this one is okay. There were a couple items I thought distracted from the plot and weakened the climax of a movie that had potential. The in-your-face drug use was excessive and the fact that every character was either a junky or a wife beater was just too cliched. And the climax of finding the Easy Rider bike is so lame, it voided the complete plot of the movie. And why can't a motorcycle movie be shot at a location where the rocky mountains isn't a constant backdrop? How about making a move about the Dragon's Tail in North Carolina or Route 66 or anywhere but California? If you can find the CD used and you're a motorcycle die-hard like me, it's worth it.
