5-0 out of 5 stars Stab them with your plastic forks
One of my favorite movies, Pump Up the Volume is a film that has a great message and a cool cast. Christian Slater is perfect as Harry/Mark, I think this is his best role, his second best being JD in Heathers. Samantha Mathis is also great in her role has Nora. It's a movie that has a message about censorship, teen suicide, pressures in society, freedom of expression and it also has a great soundtrack with lots of music Hard Harry plays on his pirate radio station. It's a movie that, even with it's slightly serious tone, makes you feel free and gives you a lift. I really think everyone should see this movie, it's one of my top 5. It also has tons of great quotes, especially things Harry says during his radio broadcasts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Allan Moyle, of course its 5 stars
This man rocks. This is also the man behind Empire Records( a movie that if you want the full effect you need to get the special fan edition, the original was alllll cut up, the special edition is a bit longer and much better). He knows how to make a movie. He also likes to dig into punk rock in america. Allan Moyle rocks. Theres no way around it. Anything he does is great. Samantha Mathis and Christian Slater are also great.
For those who know nothing of this movie ,how have you missed it but its the story of a shy guy whos moved into a new town. his parents got him a short way radio station so that he can talk to his friends back home. he uses it to play his kind of music, speak of things that he wants to and basically break every censorship law in existance. After one of his listeners shoots himself while listening to the show mark finds himself being wanted for arrest. He must find a way to change the minds of a town of teenage radicals. its the soundtrack of the pixies, concrete blonde, the beastie boys and basically everything that is good. also in it is the story of a boy and a girl who are legends in their own mind who seek after eachother. (samantha mathis and christian slater) moura ( i think thats her name its been a while since ive seen this) and mark.
-------------------------------------------------------------
if you like this get "empire records". like i said though, its best to get it on dvd- special fan edition. the regular edition is great too but the 16 minuets of extra footage and deleted scenes make the movie. the extra footage is also put into the movie so its like watching a whole new movie. it rocks, i just bought the special edition yesterday..

3-0 out of 5 stars shallow teen flick weighed down by self-awareness
Christian Slater is Mark Hunter, a nerdy Eastern transplant to an Arizona school. Completely overlooked by his easy-going parents and everybody else, Hunter runs a pirate radio station under the name "Hard Harry". Every night, the hordes of students who think nothing of Hunter, listen for every syllable of Harry's voice. Hunter laces his subversive radio with mixtures of Lenny Bruce and the likes of "Concrete Blond", and everybody loves it. Everybody that is but the stern, authoritarian and uptight nerds who live for nothing but make life miserable for everybody younger than they are. Hunter is a man with ideas, but he can only express them through Harry - he alters his voice for radio, and uses an anonymous mail box to collect fan mail - keeping his double life a secret. Unfortunately, Nora (Samantha Mathis), an introverted intellectual teen who works the library at Hunter's school, pieces together the clues of Hunter's & Harry's shared ID.

Until then, "Pump" is sheer fun, an equal opportunity offender that doesn't strain your sense of morality. The adults are easy targets (even Hunter's parents are out to lunch - they never realize that their son's got enough electronic equipment to be the "Hard Harry" that everybody is talking about; the rest of the adults fail to consider Harry's message as a wake-up call). But the teens are also pretty wasted - for all of their energy, they never convert their power into a cause (the script wakes up near the end, and crafts a genuine cause involving manipulation of student scores - a revelation hit on by a "friendly" teacher played by Ellen Greene of "Little Shop of Horrors" fame). Instead of rising up against some perceived evil, Hunter's fellow teens merely become louder versions of the same annoying and cliquish high schoolers that we've seen in countless flicks (typically starring Corey's Feldman & Haim, and Larry Linville or Mary Woronov as the evil principal). Even after essentially telling his listeners what kind of person he really is, none seek him out. They're not after Hunter's reality, only Harry's wicked construction. It's good clean fun, and Harry's rants are so irresistible, you'd be willing to sit through about 2 hours of it. Though Hunter/Harry talks to the disaffection of Teen-America, little in the surrounding setting bears out how much trouble we're in (clue: though a bastion of adult-managed conformity, Hunter's school still keeps the library stocked with Lenny Bruce).

Unfortunately, in true shock-jock tradition, Harry/Hunter's words become entangled with tragedy when a local teen commits suicide shortly after calling in. Faster than you can say "Good Morning Vietnam", Hunter dumps than resurrects Harry's persona - only now he's on a mission, and "Pump" becomes more serious than it proves to deserve. Still missing the genuine story underneath the story, the teens become louder, and the adults more repressive (one of the teens is brutally assaulted by one of the school's employees) and the script more satisfied with how it delivers Harry's message than how it can convincingly craft one. At that point, "Pump" transforms from an engaging comedy into a weighed-down message movie, one that spoils the fun of both halves. By the end, you feel like you've been watching less of a movie, than a really long and loud "After School Special".

5-0 out of 5 stars Talk Hard / Amazing film
Powerful film, Christian Slater with an incredible performance as Mark Hunter a shy kid who moves to Arizona in a new school where he notices things are very wrong. At night he turns into Hard Harry on pirate radio with a system in his basement. He has the whole school glued to his radio show that comes on at 10:00pm every night. No one knows it's him. He begins to uncover shady doings with the teachers and releases it on the air along with some kickin tunes by great bands really good soundtrack. His radio skits are hilarious. A girl (Samantha Mathis) figures out his identity and really gets into him and helps him reveal the crooked teachers. An amazing movie about censorship and the courage to speak your voice against wrong authority. One of my favorite films in my top ten, essential to collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Slater is the bombdigity
this movie is about Christian Slater who plays Hard Harry the pirate radio man of his pirated show, is magnificent and full of style. this is a movie that deals with rebellion and teen angst..kids who want to live their lives free of all the things they are imprisoned to do and they tune into Slater's show everynight including Samantha Mathis which this is her starring debut in a movie. Cheryl Pollack also sparks some hottstuff. slamming music and great moments make this one a masterpiece and a movie not to be forgotten, one of the best movies of 1990. note: Seth Green has a short but recognizable roll in here and so does Martin Landau's daughter Juliet Landau has a small role as well, both Green and Landau worked together again in the tv series Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Green played Oz and Landau played Drusilla. make plans and rent this or buy this. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars boring...
This is probobly the 2nd to worst out of the whole 7 movies. It just aint creepy or wierd enough like "COTC 1" and "COTC 4" They have an adult co-leader and child leader that is about 12 or 13. All the rest of the kids are anywhere between 15-17 years old. This movie didnt show any of thier cult meetings and there was just too much gore in this film, which really was boring cause it was the same kids that killed. If you want to see a decent COTC movie with the kids and the gore, you need to get either "COTC 2" or "COTC 4" They have more of the little kids in it killing or doing thier cult stuff. But this movie was just not needed for the series.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent but but not needed.
It goes back and forth in this series. it goes from good(the first) to horrible(2nd) to bad(3) back to good, then down to decent. This movie doesnt follow the series at all. Yeah it involves "he who talks behind the rows." but what too much is changed in this one. For one, There is a adult leader. Yeah he isnt the main leader but still he is one of the leaders in the movie. second, why is it that there are plenty of adults running around through the movie. If i watched the first and 2nd correctly, the whole belief they had was that they needed to get rid of the adults.Yet in this one, there is a whole town full of people. Also, help me understand the point of having a goofy ... looking actor like the one they had to play the main girls b/f. I almost went nuts watching that .... crack stupid jokes and what is with his half goatee. Would anyone out there really decide to kill themselfs just to kill 2 of the kids. Imean come on. he stole the weapons from them and still decided to blow himself up. I will say that it got 3 stars from me cuz the story behind it is original and isnt just lets do the same thing as the first but with more killing and blood (COTC 2). The movie follows a group of college students whose car goes into a ditch and they have to go into town to get help. they miss the bus and decide to stay in some creepy abandoned house and thats when it all starts. And also, if these people are college kids, are we really suppost to believe that the girl that offers herself to the monster is only 18? cuz she said she was. If you like this series then watch this movie cuz it is one to see and keeps ur attention and is fun to watch.Just a warning though. If you are into this series just to see a large number of killings and blood then this one u wont like. There arent too many people killed (maybe 5 or 6) so be ready.

3-0 out of 5 stars Parental Rule #1: Avoid CornFields
Back to the cornfields with He Who Walks Behind the Rows for another installment of guess with adult's in trouble now. That's right, here's yet another installation in the saga of He Who Preys Upon the Young, this time showcasing the plights of a few rather unfortunate young adults as they wander into the stalking fields. It begins as two cars toting six unwary occupants near a small town where their friend, a victim of an "accidental bungee cord jumping" demise, wanted his ashes to be spread. As these city-dwellers move closer and closer to the prize, however, they blunder into the hands of some rather unfriendly youths looking for some time, and folks they don't seem to appreciate, to kill.

Its strange to say that, in watch the Children of the Corn sequels, I've found very few things captivating and yet I still harrowingly press onward. I'm not certain why that is or what the call the cornfield actually has on a soul, but I know that many of these movies, such as this one, are in the realms of basic bloody entertainment don't reach the pinnacles of enjoyment that I sometimes strive for. There were moments of wonderful brutality in the movie, with many a body (outstretched arm, unwisely placed head) meeting the edge of some very sharp harvesting utensils, and there were a few moments that seemed to have that special something to give a person that had been traveling the rows for a while. Still, as it pressed into the faith matters and the principles that had been secured deep into this viewing mind since the onset of the series, I found my mind impatient and mentally wandering, looking for something akin to a horrific manifestation to make everything all right. This sadly never came, though, and I found myself with only some blundering antics thrown into the midst of some gargantuan fields to keep me company, chasing it all with some very angry, sometimes easy-on-the-eyes (at least in one instance) youthful hostiles on their heels.

If you've pressed this far into the fields and made it through some of the very bad sequels, then this won't be as wretched of a taste as some of the others you've found. You'll find yourself laughing at some of the cheap effects, though, and noting that David Carradine makes a very good chair-bound mouthpiece, plus you should like some of the deaths (even a certain entertaining Zappa appears therein) as they paint the screen with blood. This is why I, for some reason or another, give it a 3.2 on the 5 star list, because I've been worse places and appreciate the offerings made. Still, if you haven't made it this far, I wouldn't suggest taking on such a hefty task of moving this far up the ladder, mostly because the beast inside the silo is bound to disappoint you as much - although the ironies in the ending might make you nod your head and laugh.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Sequel
Okay I'll admit it. The first was hands down the best movie in the seires. But this film is the best sequel in the seires so far... part 8 is on its way. This one wasn't just and excuss to make a gory cut em' up movie like 2 and 3, and wasn't pure cheese like part 4, and part 6 and 7 where just hands down confussing and boring. If your a fan of the original this is the one sequel you need to see.

1-0 out of 5 stars I saw the average score and said OH MY GOD!
Whatever you do, don't buy this film. Its boring, the plot's stupid and only 5 people die in it. 5!!! Utter trash.
P.S. Its so stupid that the heroine can destroy the "evil hell-fire" with some petrol and a few old sacks! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars ANARCHY TV- An Equal Opportunity Satire
Channel 69 is a religious cable channel which is suddenly taken over by a group of young social anarchists, whose aim is to jump-start the social revolution by means of televising nude aerobics. Sound strange?
Well, this is the premise, in a nutshell, of ANARCHY TV. In this sometimes achingly funny little movie, the satire is equally aimed at all fronts-the Religious Right, Social Conservatives, Politicians, Televangelists,Law Enforcement, as well as politically correct, bleeding heart pseudo-liberal protest marchers in search of any cause about which to raise a placard and march in the streets. By focusing on the manipulative tactics of both sides of the political spectrum, ANARCHY TV successfully exposes the folly within each of these camps. While most of the cast seems wooden (Dweezil Zappa sleep walks through most of this film, and Alan Thicke never breaks out of his one note characterization of the Uber-Conservative), there are some very fine turns here too, most notably by Jonathan Penner, whose blend of the serious and the absurd help to keep the story from disintegrtaing into slapstick.
Although much of the movie is a wild comic ride with lots of unexpected turns around each corner, the story falls apart in the last 10 minutes, leaving this reviewer to wonder why such a biting satirical gem as ANARCHY TV lost its bite in the end.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jonathan Blanks' Anarchy TV
Director Blanks brings Frank Zappa's children onboard in a decadent ninety minute comedy that entertains.

Channel 69 is the local public access station that plays shows like "Political Jeopardy" and "Eat Me." The shows lambast the establishment, and push free speech and individualism. It is run by cute couple Jerry (Jonathan Penner) and Natalie (Jessica Hecht), hilarious paranoid Frank (Matt Winston), Katie (Moon Zappa), and Sid (Dweezil Zappa). Natalie is also a teacher, working her political agenda into subversive elementary school plays, much to the principal's (Mink Stole) chagrin.

Natalie's dad is Reverend Wright (Alan Thicke), who buys the television station, disowns his daughter, and throws the group out onto the street. They try to protest their plight, but no one seems to care as no one was watching them in the first place. They hold a couple of disastrous rallies, where all their friends butt heads about their personal beliefs. They are thrown in jail, and eventually bailed out by Oriental prostitute/fan Tiffany (Tamayo Otsuki).

As the Christian station broadcasts on their station, the group hatches a new plan. They take the station by force and begin broadcasting their stuff again, much to the yawns and indifference of the viewing public. Even the police and press do not care. Frank discovers a safe in the station that holds the key to all his off-the-wall beliefs, and sets about breaking the combination.

Tiffany suddenly gets a great idea, and viewers begin tuning in- nude aerobics will do that. Soon, the little station terrorists find themselves to be media darlings, and people tune in, shedding their inhibitions and clothes as well. Eventually the film ends in Frank's shooting, as he discovers proof that the government executed radical Abbey Archer (George Wendt) with microwaves.

The film plays like a goofball version of "UHF." The film makers wisely lampoon conservatives as well as liberals, but usually spends way too much time beating it into their audience. The final few minutes, featuring the shooting, brings down all the silly fun of the film, and really ends on a sour note. The entire government-as-assassins angle absolutely fails.

Moon and Dweezil Zappa are very funny in supporting roles, as is Ahmet as an abusive cop. Matt Winston is a riot as paranoid Frank, questioning everyone's motives. The sketches in the film run hot and cold, but it helps that a middle ground is found. If you are offended by a joke one minute, Blanks finds something for you to laugh at the next. Actually, with free speech and personal freedom being preached, the political group who come off best in the film are the libertarians, not anarchists.

"Anarchy TV" is not great, but it has more laughs than some big screen successes, and contains off color humor that works better than any "American Pie" film. I recommend it, unless full frontal nudity (both sexes) and anti-establishment humor really bothers you...

This is unrated, and contains mild physical violence, mild gun violence, strong profanity, very strong female nudity, strong male nudity, strong sexual references, drug abuse, drug references, and adult situations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great film, funny stuff, but do we need the nudity?
I loved this movie, but the gratuitous nudity was a bit of a turn-off. It had nothing to do with the story and seemed like the director's way of jacking up the rating. I'm a big musical fan of the various Zappas and was happy to see Moon, Dweezil, Ahmet, and Diva in a film together. Dweezil Zappa's character is refreshingly sarcastic and the entire cast of Anarchy TV is very funny. This spoofish movie is a definite fave. The public access show "Eat Me" is my favorite, with some foul-mouthed kiddies that make the movie complete.

Funny stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anarchy TV
The film is a quite funny and refreshingly affirmative counter-culture take on religious hypocracy, police brutality and racism. It contains an amusing send up of so-called family values. I took my 14 year old son to see it. It is a healthful antedote to the banal and unimaginative twaddle on TV and in the movies. ... Read more

Whatever you do, don't confuse this Jack Frost with the 1997comedic horror flick of the same name (its tagline: "He's chillin... and killin'"). This family film stars Michael Keaton as Jack Frost, an aspiring musician, loving husband, and occasionally absent father. Frost's life is unexpectedly cut short by a car accident, and a year after his death he comes back as--you guessed it--a snowman, to help his family heal(Kelly Preston and Joseph Cross as wife and son Gabby and Charlie, respectively). The sudden death may affect sensitive younger viewers, but by the time Frost returns the movie is more light-hearted, and the film's message is a worthy one. There's an underlying theme that supports independence, and Gabby isn't saddled with a new dude by the film's end. There's also a good rapport developed between father and son, and especially mother and son. If an audience can take that huge leap of faith to accept the premise (as youthful audiences will no doubt be able to do), this is entertaining family fare. --N.F. Mendoza ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars JACK FROST DVD REVIEW: A cool movie for families/children!
I remember when I first heard that Michael Keaton and Kelly Preston were going to be in a snowman movie and I was like...why? I was actually expecting this movie to be bad but I was surprised that I enjoyed it a lot! I really liked how they developed the story between father and son and then son losing father. A very touching story that your children will definitely enjoy!

First, the pictures don't do the snowman justice because they really did a good job in the movie making the snow man look good with the use of teaming up with George Lucas Industrial Light and Magic. Awesome!

The video transfer is beautiful and the audio is pretty good considering it's a dialogue movie. As for the DVD, the movie comes with production notes and the theatrical trailer. I wish there was a long featurette and perhaps deleted scenes or something but it's ok... I got more what I expected from this movie.

In a way, I'm kind of happy that Michael Keaton took this role because for a good actor, to make a film for the families/children out there, shows great character.

A cool movie for families to watch together with their children.

5-0 out of 5 stars I thought that it was very good.
I saw most of this film on HBO and I thought that the film was very good. I don't think that it glorifies death. Who is to say that our relitives don't come back?? It is a movie that deals with a father that dies in an accident. A year later he returns in the form of a snowman. I thought that this movie was sooo good! I thought the film had the right touches of comedy and Drama. I thought that this movie was a wonderful showcase for Michael Keaton. Not only can he be funny and serious, he can also play music too! I thought that this movie should have been treated better. Sometimes we all need magic in our lives. The end scene with the father and son together for the final time had me crying. I think that Jack Frost should have been treated a lot better... Diserves a chance to be seen...

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FAMILY FUN. 16th april 2004.
A great family film for everyone don't hire buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Different Kind of Warm Fuzzy Movie
I became introduced to this movie when my son brought home a book from school that contained an elementary school-level synopsis of the story. He had me read it to him at bedtime. When I was reading the ending to him, I looked over and saw tears in his eyes. That created the same effect in me and I immediately decided that we WOULD see the movie. It must have been a slow night at the theatre complex because my son and I were the only two watching the movie that night. It certainly added to the special feelings we both had for the movie. Obviously, the VHS was under the Christmas tree next year.

With all that, why did I only rate it 4 stars? Well, as a movie, it doesn't quite earn its' place among the classics. The acting's OK, the storyline is good, the photography, sets and scenery are fine, but it doesn't near the level of a "Wizard of Oz" or "Toy Story". On the other hand, if you're a father with a young son and you're both looking for a good movie to rent on a cold winter's night, I've got a recommendation...

5-0 out of 5 stars Snowbody Does it Better!
This is one excellent movie.I love it because it's funny, heartwarming wholesome.Michael Keaton is blues musician Jack Frost. One snowy day he gives his son a harmonica as a gift.Later,Jack decides to leave his ban on the road and spend more time with his family.Unfortanately,an accident takes his life. Then his son plays the harmonica and Jack Frost comes back to life-as a snowman!Their father-son relationship will touch your heart and the special effects will make your eyes pop!An absolute must! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE
If you watch this your getting 107 minutes, 35 scenes, one movie full of laughs from beginning to end. I never got tired of watching this movie because it's so good. It stars David Arquette, Scott Caan, Oliver Platt, Rose McGowan, Bill Goldberg, Diamond Dallas Page, Sting, Joe Pantaliano, plus many other great actors that are great. It's about two friends Gordie(Arquette) and Sean(Caan) go to watch there favorite wrestler Jimmy King(Oliver Platt) in the ring. Jimmy's boss turns on him and makes him take a brutal beating by Diamond Dallas Page. Jimmy never wrestles again until Sean and Gordy leave the match all mad and sad until they find Jimmy King and try to get him back in the ring so he can regain his belt and get back at those who turned on him. He gets a wresting trainer Sal (Martin Landau) who helps him get back into wrestling. They continue to train and fight until there big match comes.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
-Commentary on whole movie
-Bif Naked music video "We're not Gonna Take It"
-Up close with Nitro Girls behind scenes segments
-No holds barred behind the scenes segments
-Wrestlers interview gallery

Overall this is a great, hilarious comedy movie that anyone will enjoy. If you have seen the movie "Dodgeball A True Underdog Story" and enjoyed that you will love this movie.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ready to Fall!
Ready to Rumble clearly isn't the greatest movie ever because of its genre, but it does have a clear intention, to focus in on teens and major wrestling fans. Ready to Rumble stars David Arquette ("Scream Trilogy", "Beautiful Girls", "Johns"), Oliver Platt ("Funny Bones", "Lake Placid", "Flatliners"), Scott Caan ("Gone in 60 Seconds","Varsity Blues"), Joe Pantoliano ("The Matrix", TV's "The Sopranos") and Martin Landau ("Ed", "The X-Files").

Basically, Gordy (Arquette) and Sean (Caan)are die-hard wrestling fans and their favorite wrestler, Jimmy King (Platt) just got kicked out of the WCW and won't be able to return. King got a heavy beating from other wrestlers and his boss, Titus Sinclair (Pantoliano). Now, its up to Gordy and Sean to get Jimmy King back into the ring and become the world wrestling champ once again. King must face Diamond Dallas Page (as himself)again, after he was slaughtered by Page to win back the title. He'll also have to face other wrestlers. Gordy gets help from the head nirto girl, Sasha (Rose McGowan, "Scream","Jawbreaker" TV's "Charmed"). Sean also finds love. Sting and Stone Cold play themselves.
This movie is basically about two morons who want to get the favorite wrestler back into the ring. It's crude, lewd and bad. It does have some comedic brilliance, but not enough of class, style, or a good script. 2 stars is all I'm giving this movie because it lacks a great plot and certain cinematic brilliances. Arquette, Platt, and Caan are great actors, but this is the lowest for all of them. Arquette, a great actor, is in a stupid movie that really has no taste and holds no significant point. This movie is only recommended to wrestling fans. For all of the others, good luck! And yes, Scott Caan is the son of legendary actor James Caan.

2-0 out of 5 stars Some redeeming value, but not much
Ready to Rumble is not a good movie by any means. As a comedy the jokes are very sophmoric and the two leads give wrestling fans a bad name. However there are some redeeming factors that in some ways make this a better movie.

The plot here is that the current King of Wrestling (Oliver Platt) is brutally dethroned by the an Evil promoter and his henchmen Diamond Dallas Page. From there two bumbling fans go on a quest to get Jimmy King back to the top. Along the way they encounter variouse WCW talent as well as other interesting characters.

Easily the best moments come when either they show wrestling matches and when Marlon Brandow is on the screen. Yes Marlon Brandow is in this and is so over the top that in my opinion steals the show.

However despite the cool wrestling moments and Marlon Brandow there really isn't much to look at here. The only thing worse than what this movie was a majority of the time was the fact that it spun off into a real WCW storyline that really sucked and made to some fans a hated man out of David Arquette. Past that if you really should, rent this... or else I will lay the smackdown on you... wait wrong promotion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just a wrestling movie, a landmark film.
This is a funny movie, including David Arquette, Oliver Platt, and Scott Caan, they make a good team, and I like the part where Scott Caan just had it with this woman. I give it 5 stars, because this isn't just a wrestling movie, it's a landmark film!

2-0 out of 5 stars Tries to be funny, but fails
Summary:
Jimmy King (Oliver Platt) is the 'King' of professional wrestling, where everything is supposed to be fake, right? Well, when King abuses his place as the champion, his manager, Titus Sinclair (Joe Pantoliano), gives Dallas Page the go ahead to make their championship match real. King doesn't actually stand a chance and loses the title.

Watching in horror and dismay are King's two greatest fans - Gordie Boggs (David Arquette) and Sean Dawkins (Scott Caan). Resolving that King was defeated unfairly and believing that King is actually a decent guy, Gordie and Sean decide to find King and help him get his title back. Along the way they sing Pink Floyd with nuns, see Oliver Platt in a dress, have wild sex with one of the wrestling world's dancers, Rose McGowan, and try to stay ahead of Gordie's dad, Richard Lineback, who is a policeman and wants Gordie to become one.

My Comments:
I just want to know one thing, did Oliver Platt do his own stunts? Jimmy King gets beat up on a regular basis and Oliver Platt just doesn't seem to be the kind of guy that could play that role. Anyway...

The movie is kind of funny in that it's making fun of wrestling fans, at least, sort of. It also incorporates a number of actual wrestlers, including Bill Goldberg (I) and Steve Borden (I).

But in the end, the comedic attempts are, well, attempts. The majority of the humor is slapstick potty humor and just isn't that funny. I'm not sure that I laughed out loud even once. It just didn't cut it on the humor end.

Perhaps this is kind of like Zoolander in that you really have to be into the industry (wrestling in this case, fashion in Zoolander) to get the humor and see all of the subtle insinuations. I'm not and I definitely didn't find this to be that funny.

Overall, don't waste your time unless you actually watch 'professional' wrestling or like potty humor. The movie isn't funny, the story is ridiculous, and the wrestling, though supposed to be real, is even more fake than the stuff you see on TV. I gave it two stars for making fun of wrestling fans. ...

Anyway...

Cheryl Pollack also sparks some hottstuff. slamming music and great moments make this one a masterpiece and a movie not to be forgotten, one of the best movies of 1990. note: Seth Green has a short but recognizable roll in here and so does Martin Landau's daughter Juliet Landau has a small role as well, both Green and Landau worked together again in the tv series Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Green played Oz and Landau played Drusilla. make plans and rent this or buy this. ...

I gave it two stars for making fun of wrestling fans. ... Read more
