4-0 out of 5 stars Not on Disney anymore!
I used to watch this movie on the Disney Channel before it was booted off the network. I also used to watch "Susie Q" and the original "Freaky Friday." Why did they get booted off? They were such good movies! This probably had to be my favorite because I used to wonder what it would be like to go to the "Mommy Market" and pick up a new mom. The only bad thing about this movie is that it's not on DVD. If it was on DVD, then I would buy it. I think that it's a waste to buy it on VHS. I don't even watch videos anymore! Other than that, I love this movie!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A magical movie for moms and kids alike -
Based on the popular children's short story "The Mommy Market," the story centers around the three Martin children: Elizabeth (Anna Chlumsky), Jeremy (Aaron Metchik) and Harry (Asher Metchik), who are unhappy with their single mother (Sissy Spacek). Their elderly friend, Mrs. Cavour (Maureen Stapleton), tells them of an ancient magical spell that will allow them to go to the Mommy Market to select a new mother. Through the course of the film they try out 3 different mothers - but none of them is to their liking, either. They all sound good at the start, but experience shows that even the coolest Mom can have some of the strangest drawbacks...

5-0 out of 5 stars Guaranteed to be really great!
This movie was my childhood favorite because of the fanciful theme and characters. I also learned from it the importance of valuing what I have. I have many fun memories of watching this movie with my sister over and over. I didn't understand, of course, until a little while ago, that it had actually taught me something, too. Please get this for your children - they will be excstatic.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Sleeper for the Kids
Predictable, yes... even from the title. Nevertheless, this delightful little morality tale for kids is worth the time. Anna and her siblings turn in credible performances and Sissy Spacek is a delight as all four moms. Don't let the professional critics fool you into thinking that this isn't worth the time of day... it is for anyone with an eye toward fantasy without a lot of FX.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Moral Lesson for Kids
You never really miss something until you have to live without it. This valuable lesson is effectively portrayed in the movie while showcasing Sissy Specek's extraordinary telent. She takes you along a journey in which kids come to appreciate the value of a loving mother no matter how bad the current circumstances are. Well written, with plenty of laughs and one or two seemingly tearful moments, Trading Mom is a movie in which children can appreciate and understand, since the plot of the movie is based on their decisions and realizations. ....A good moral lesson taught in such an entertaining way that the children forget they're actually learning... Excellent! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A pretty good man-made monster film
Syngenor was actually a much better film that I was expecting it to be. Syngenor, by the way, is short for Synthesized Genetic Organism. Norton Cyberdyne has designed the soldier of the future, a product of genetic engineering and plain old strong metal engineering, a creature designed specifically to fight in the deserts of the Middle East, a terrible force essentially indestructible. Unfortunately for all concerned, there is a power struggle taking place in the highest echelons of the company, and the plotters take the bold move of "accidentally" letting a Syngenor escape. When he kills the scientist who essentially created him (and quit before the prototype was really complete), the scientist's niece decides to seek justice on her own. The police won't investigate the murder, but she knows who and what is responsible. An annoying reporter looking for a good story joins forces with her, and their efforts lead us into the heart of Norton Cyberdyne. The president of the company, played by Davie Gale of Reanimator fame, is going quite insane under all the pressure. As things progress, more and more Syngenors are released to roam the building and basically just kill indiscriminately. These things are able to reproduce asexually ever twenty-four hours, so you've got Syngenors all over the place pretty quickly. There is a lot of action, as you can imagine, in the succeeding battles between man and Syngenor.

This movie is basically one of your better than average science fiction B-movies. It was great to see David Gale in action again, but his character actually becomes pretty annoying as his grip on reality quickly weakens. Gale goes well beyond the call of duty in terms of hamming it up. The acting is pretty good all the way around, though, and the Syngenor are pretty cool monsters who are much more than guys in rubber suits. It's always nice when the special effects guys take pride in what they do and give us a creature we can respect rather than laugh at. Naturally, you pretty much know how things are going to turn out, and you can figure out the Syngenor's vulnerability much more quickly than the desperate heroes who could really use that information do. The plot does sort of branch off into seemingly important directions that are never expounded upon or explained, but this is forgivable and offset to some degree by the fun mano-a-monster battle scenes. In the final analysis, Syngenor is a fairly impressive sci-fi B-movie that I found quite entertaining and fun to watch.

3-0 out of 5 stars A fine B-movie
This is fine b-movie. It has a real annoying women character and a journalist that wont take no for an answer. Reccomended to anyone who loves b-movies ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable horror/thriller.
A super-intelligent dog befriends Marc Singer and Tracy Scoggins, and they go on the run from a monster called The Outsider. This Dean Koontz-based horror/thriller has second-rate creature effects, but benefits from a fast pace and some priceless scenes of interaction between Einstein the dog and Singer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Out of all the WATCHER movies, this is the Dean R Koontz boo
what is there now...4 versions of the book. This is the closest that you will get. not the greatest movie, but more faithful to the story. The dog's performance as Einstein stills the show.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE!
This movie was horrible. I've watched the movie and read the book. I absolutly loved the book. This movie didn't come close. It had nothing to do with the book, and I'm upset they even associate Koontz with the movie. His books rock, but not this movie. The monster looked like an anteater! Anyway, I encourage you to read the book, but please spare yourself from the movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than the original watchers
This movie was made the way Dean Koontz meant it to be when he wrote the book. It follows the book, and contains the romantic side, which the original Watchers did not. I believe this to be one of Koontz's best. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Script is Awesome!
If you love intelligent action, this movie is a must see. The quality of the writing was amazing and while the directing style did not impress me as much as I wanted, it was well worth the money. With a bigger budget and top hollywood director, I would expect to see this writer's name in many credits in the future. Keep your eyes out for Eric Barker! He's on his way!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Movie for Action Freaks
If you are an ERIC ROBERTS fan this is one for the books. Hitman's Run. A great story idea but it is destroyed by the direction. Choppy, sloppy and often confusing. Mark Lester seems to be going backwards instead of forward. It is saved only by Eric Roberts and Damian Chapa. I want to know who edited this thing. He or she fails to let the shots develop especially in the action sequences. Great car chases, good fight scenes and hefty explosions. Who did the 2nd Unit? It really carried and probably saved the movie. Yes, low-budget but still a good, no-brainer Friday night experience. MARK LESTER: BRING ME MORE LIKE THAT!

3-0 out of 5 stars Well done Eric....another winner.
When I first saw this video at Blockbuster, I ignored it thinking it was just another man with a gun film. Upon recommendation from a friend, I rented it and was totally blown away. It was brilliant. I would gladly sell my house and all its contents just to see the sequel. Although the direction was lacking and there are some strange edits, this film has an underlying genius to the plot...offbeat, avante garde, and refreshingly different. I hope to see more from this writer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Action packed with tinge of witticism
Take the Mob, lots of action and mix it with a well written comedic script and you get a surprisingly enjoyable movie. Tired of the same old bloated budget spoofs? This is one to watch...
