5-0 out of 5 stars If you see one Movie made in Hong Kong.....This is it
I didn't know what to expect from this movie when i first rented it...I thought it would probably be good for a laugh....wow....I was never more right. This movie is hilarious. I don't want to say too much to gve the plot away...thats half the fun of this movie....the plots shock value. All I will say is if a movie involving the most comical sex scene ever, very beautiful asian women, and a man who visits a drunken doctor for a very unusual (limb) transplant sounds entertaining....get this movie. And if that doesn't sound like your cup of tea...get it anyways. You wont be disappointed. I have made everyone I know watch this film and it has become a party favorite. If you dont find yourself laughing out loud at least a dozen times....check your pulse...your not alive.

2-0 out of 5 stars What a thoroughly bizarre film.
Going solely by a few reviews here, I bought this film with the assumption that it would be a steamy comedy. While there are some very steamy scenes indeed, the "comedy" is so low-brow as to not even raise a chuckle.

...

While a couple of the sex scenes are very good, there is one that is basically a violent rape of a battered woman, and another that is very close to rape (although the women of course end up enjoying the experience, naturally.) There is also a forced abortion, and a woman being forced into slavery, some things I wouldn't expect to find in a comedy at all.

There are a couple of Buddhist sentiments tossed in at the beginning and at the end, but by and large, this is just soft core porn - the story line makes little sense, and is just a cheap way to get from one sex scene to the next. I'd expect that in flat-out pornographic films, but in something trying to pass itself off as something else...well, I was disappointed.

Some of the colors, fabrics and textures are very lovely, but it's obviously a low-budget film. The actors and actresses are generally attractive, and if all you want is some soft-core porn to pass an hour or so, this might just be your movie.

Bear in mind that it's subtitled, although with the level of diaglogue that's present, you might just as well leave it off.

Overall, very disappointing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Chinese Baroque Commedia del Arte
Loosely based on the 17th Century erotic literary classic, *The Carnal Prayer Mat*, this film is at once an erotic, picaresque tale of adventure, and a Ch'an Buddhist morality play (of sorts).
Set in the late Yuan Dynasty (think: Kublai Khan), the film is a reasonably funny, and often very amusing farce, as well as a biting satire both of the manners and mores of a certain epoch in China. The film conjures up the cultural decadence at the tail-end of an age of great creative and imaginative vigor and growth...

The depths of degradation, despair and delusion are explored; ignorance, lust and aggression (the Three Poisons of classical Buddhist teaching) are present in abundance. Hallucinatory surreal scenes vie with ordinary profane reality; realism is set beside bizarre unorthodox fantasy in a mixture which recalls elements both of the Golden Ass and Don Juan, to use some (admittedly imprecise) Occidental points of reference.

In the end there is (an almost Christian) message of repentance (by the film's three principle rogues), forgiveness and redemption, but there is an equivocal sardonic irony in the message, as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Chinese Picaresque Satire?
One puzzle about this film is the title: i.e. whereas there is a great deal of sex enacted in multiple variations (sometimes quite extreme) in this film, it is hard to discern the least trace of Zen, or its Chinese precursor, Ch'an Buddhism. The only overt expressions of Buddhism are of the most formalistic, prechy moralizing variety; a pietistic, perhaps ritualistic, mannerist caricature of Buddhism, perhapss--or perhaps rather a caricature of Roman Catholicism, or of any other petrified, formalistic religion. One suspects the influence of Spanish picaresque literature,...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun!
If you are the kind of moviegoer who gets upset by the showing of breasts or have no sense of humor (especially the mature kind), you will not enjoy this movie. Otherwise, this movie is utterly entertaining. Lots of nice colors, beautiful women (especially Amy Yip and that Japanese actress), funny storyline, decent acting, all make this a classic that appeals to both mainstream and HK cult movie viewers. If there's a Chinatown near you you might want to get it there and save a few bucks. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I picked this one up because I'm a fan of the Asian "breasts-and-bullets" genre, but I found this one to be a serious letdown. There's very little action- just a few decent martial arts fights, and one poorly done car chase. And there is, of course, the requisite nudity, but most of it is unpleasant (we get several scenes of the robotic villain raping women, often before gruesomely murdering them) and gratuitious (the sex scenes, including the rapes, are unnecessarily drawn out and not the least bit sexy). The majority of the movie's running time is filled with insipid and awkward attempts at plot and characer development, all of which fall flat.
The viewing experience is further hampered by the bizarre practice, inherent in many entries of the Asian exploitation genre, to mix repellant sex and violence with "cute" slapstick-y comic relief that would be at home in a children's movie. Perhaps this is simply a cultural thing that we Westerners just don't get, but this combined with the boring content previously mentioned makes for one of the weakest entries in this genre that I have ever seen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Female robocop tackles prostitute slaying robot in Hong Kong
"Robotrix" ("Nu ji xie ren") stars Chikako Aoyama as Linda, a murdered cop who is brought back to life as an android warrior, EVE R27. This is so she can fight an evil scientist, who becomes a robot to stalk prostitutes on the streets of Hong Kong; the evil scientist, Ryuichi Sakamoto is played by Chung Lam, but his robot is played by Billy Chow. Now, obviously this 1991 Hong Kong film directed by Jamie Luk is inspired in part by "Robocop," but in addition to throwing some science-fiction and Jack the Ripper elements into the Hong Kong action, there are also some edgy soft-core sex scenes involving Linda and her boyfriend. So what we have here is a most unusual mix of elements, because while the rest of this film goes off in the direction of big time action with a huge twist of camp, the sex scenes seem like they were spliced in from a different movie (the Taiwanese version apparently has a comic scene set in a police station that is not in the print, so maybe this idea is not too far fetched). More fun than you would have thought to be sure. On the DVD edition this film letterboxed, and the dialogue is in Cantonese and Mandarin with English subtitles. However, the VHS edition, also letterboxed, is dubbed into English. Your choice. Choose wisely.

5-0 out of 5 stars T2/Robocop/Ghost in the Shell
If you enjoy the aforementioned, you will enjoy this film.I was impressed by the budget and acting. The humor was well done also.
Yes,the actresses are pretty-but scenery can't make a good film. So,in essence-robots are created, one renegade developer transfers his essence into a cyborg. The other developers fear you cannot control the human spirit-but must transfer the heroines soul into a robotic recreation of herself to counter the villain. There is nudity, but it makes sense.
A good story,good acting,solid budget.Worth the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amy Yip, Chikako Aoyama!...(*wow*!)
A guilty pleasure film (the pleasure being Amy Yip, and Chikako Aoyama)...

The story does its job, and I have no complaints in that section(although the violence may be a bit too extreme for some)....

All in all, if you like Hong Kong pics, Asian culture (or something different), this is for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stephen Chow is.. The God of Snooker!
This film is a must for any Stephen Chow fan. As well as featuring Yeun Wah, Teresa Mo (All's Well That Ends Well) etc. any English viewer will be dumbfounded at the appearance of Jimmy "Whirlwind" White's performance as the gwailo snooker champ Chow has to beat to save his village falling into the clutches of a HK business man. With all respect to Jimmy White (british snooker champ) he could not look more confounded and oblivious to what's going on in the film and it's nutty behind the scenes footage at the end. The "Legend of Dragon" refers to Chow's father's (Yuen Wah) Bruce Lee (.."Si-lone..") fixation and mirroring his real life, he tells people throughout the film that he did stunts for the big man in "...the film where he beats up foreigners..". The film features all of Chow's trademarks - sporadic high energy kung-fu, women getting punched in the face, flawless Bruce Lee impersonations, gormless gwailos and in-jokes on HK films past and present. My favourite joke is when Chow leaves the mainland to visit HK for the first time, Yuen Wah makes him promise not to fight and get into trouble, and gives him a sealed note ".. only see what it says when you fear for life.."- Chow promptly gets in trouble with some local thugs as soon as he gets to HK. He opens up the note, which simply says "FIGHT!" and beats up them all up with an umbrella to the Wong Fei Hong theme (From Once upon a Time In China). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Erotic Ghost Story II
One of the most beautiful movies in the world!

4-0 out of 5 stars a delicious romp
I'll be buying this DVD (hopefully courtesy of an Amazon prize for first review!) for three reasons. Firstly, I've seen it already and think it more fun and deliciously sexier than Erotic Ghost Story One. The acting is ok, the settings and special effects are pretty good, and it's a huge romp almost the entire family can enjoy (ok, my wife thinks it very silly and tedious; perhaps I see more in it). Secondly, there's no real violence on show. Just supernatural silliness; violence and sex shouldn't mix, and in this film, the tongue is placed firmly between the cheeks. Thirdly, the actors are in extraordinarily good form. Or forms. Very good forms indeed. There's no pornography here, just some mild erotica and an over-the-top story and a whole lot of beauty. Good almost-clean fun, in fact. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars nobody missed the point
Just wanted to tell everybody to ignore the review by the guy who said this movie isn't softcore porn. That genius thought everyone was writing reviews for "Chinese Ghost Story," not "Erotic Ghost Story." There is no giant tongue monster, flying swordsman named Big Beard, etc in this movie. "Erotic Ghost Story" is basically a loose remake of The Witches of Eastwick with tons of nudity, some gore - basically a Hong Kong cat III (the equivalent of a T&A b-flick). It's enjoyable though and easy on the eyes. Just don't watch it with your kids.

4-0 out of 5 stars witches of eastwick with flying warriors and oriental babes
In Hong Kong a CAT III rated film such as this one gives the filmakers the opportunity to show more sex and violence and this one definately falls into the sex category. Don't get me wrong though there is much more to the film than sex. The story is stolen from "The Witches of Eastwick" the three witches are now free beautiful oriental girls one of whom is oriental babe Amy Yip who fall for a man who is really an evil demon - the whole production is very charming and colourful with some great hire wire fight scenes and splendid sets and costumes that are visually pleasing. There's loads of sex too but it's largely inoffensive - sometimes it seems theres a little too much screen time given to the sexual antics of the ladies but who's complaining! All in all this a great fun little gem of a film and is highly recommeded to anyone who enjoys cult/camp cinema.

5-0 out of 5 stars The other reviewers miss the point of this movie
This film is a fantasy/martial arts epic, not a softcore porno film. The closest American equivalent would be "Big Trouble in Little China," which pales in comparison to this gem. The fight scenes and special effects are convincing and spectacular, featuring fireballs, flying swordsmen, and a giant tongue monster.

Apparently, some people bought this DVD based solely on the box art and title.

Long live Big Beard!

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth it
trust me, its just not worth buying. there is maybe one or two erotic scenes that are over before they start...

2-0 out of 5 stars Mildy erotic fairy-tale

3-0 out of 5 stars Don¿t blink while you are watching this Stephen Chow vehicle
It is a hilarious little tale of scam artists with routines being thrown at you like baseballs in a batting cage - just one after another. Some are classics.

Chow plays a small time hustler - often pretending to be an illegal immigrant washed ashore - in front of a tour bus and just happens to be carrying some Chinese antiques. He goes to his mentor Karl Maka who inspires him to go for the big gig. While pretending to be a blind man in order to get a taxi - it doesn't work as the crowd beats the hell out of him anyway - he gets a ride from Teresa Mo (Hard Boiled). Thinking that he is blind, she tries to pickpocket him and when that doesn't work pretends to have hit an old lady with the car so that he will pay compensation. Chow wants to help the old lady so Mo becomes the little old lady, Chow says call the cops - Mo pretends to be a cop, then a terrorist and finally a dog. It's a fabulous routine and it looks as if Chow can barely contain his laughter.

It turns out that Mo is in trouble with a loan shark - Roy Cheung - who sends his brother - the none too bright - Yuen Wah to get payment. Chow comes to her aid as the Blind Swordman - but in the end they both are told by Cheung that they have a week to come up with the money. So Chow and Mo become partners and come up with various scams to get the money.

At the same time Wu Ma is trying to pull a scam that involves pretending to be a rich man who is waiting for a wealthy kid from the US to show up. Instead Chow shows up and is mistaken for the kid. Now both are trying to scam each other. The icing on the cake is when Wu Ma brings in his "daughter" a call girl played by the very bounteous Amy Yip to seduce Chow.

The Yipster is terrific in this film and has a few great scenes. One is perhaps the funniest and yet most disgusting kiss with Chow in the history of film.

This is just a funny film - not as sophisticated as some of Chow's other films - a lot of pratfalls and gags - but I rarely went more than a few minutes without a good laugh. ...

Lifeless plot, with little in the way of erotic charge. No sexual tension, just a sequence of lustful encounters. ... Read more
