4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Sci-Fi/Horror Thriller!
This was an entertaining sci-fi thriller about a serial killer's soul that inhabits the electrical world. He continues his psychopathic work by turning computers and household appliances into deadly weapons with a mind of their own. The microwave scene was disturbing. As well as the garbage disposal and dishwaher scenes. It reminded me of the 1988 shocker "Pulse" as it is somewhat related with possessed appliances. Lots of action and suspense. If you're into sci-fi and horror you should definatly see this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Some good horror scenes, but horrible execution and effects
Ghost in the Machine (1993) Karen Allen, Chris Mulkey, Ted Marcoux, Wil Horneff, Jessica Walter, Brandon Quintin Adams, D: Rachel Talalay.

The soul of a dead serial killer is captured inside a computer network from a surge of lighting; he begins to ply a killing spree through the electrical grid and appliances on a Cleveland single mother's friends, using pages from her lost address book.

Computer graphics and some unrelenting gore (for those who like that stuff) can't compensate for a ludicrous and predictable story, but even those "redeeming marks" aren't anything to brag about.

Running Time: 93 minutes and rated R for violence and gore.

gone bad. This film was not completely terrible but it is no horror classic, I don't even think it's much of a horror movie -- It isn't scary, or gory, or suspenseful. It had potentional but it just kind of fell flat on it's face.
Karen Allen, (Raiders of the lost arc, Scrooged, and Animal House), plays the single mother who's computerized address book is being used by the "soul" of the serial killer. he kills off her friends that are in the book.
I can see why this is a "straight to video" movie. The acting wasn't any worse than most horror movies, but the execution of the film is just poor. If you are a real horror film buff, watch Nightmare on elm street as opposed to this. The killer is actually scary! ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Ignore the bad reviews
I don't care what anybody else thinks of this movie of course its not scary but its still pretty good to watch. Karen Allen stars as Terry Munroe who's a single Mother raising a her son Josh who can be sometimes a Troublemaker. One day they decide to go to this computer store and they find this Address product that can scan your address and other people's adresses into it and so they buy it. Only the problem is they leave it and a guy named The Serial Address Book killer works there and steals it and unfortunetly he gets in a car wreck while on his way to do more killing. So he gets pulled out of the wreck, while being catscaned in the hospital lighting strikes and knocks off the power and somehow his soul gets into the catscan and into the entire computer systems and he's online. Soon enough he finds the address book store files and starts killing her friends in the order they appear in the book. I know the plot is out of it and predictable but it shouldn't be that bad and its got some pretty good effects back in 93' and some decent acting (especially by Karen Allen). My actual rating is about 3 1/2 stars but what the heck. Rent it before you buy it just in case you don't like it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tempting!
One might think that 'The Temptress' would be a mediocre film, but it is quiet good. The way the film has been shot, it seems like B-grade fare, but don't let that put you off. Kim Delaney does a fantastic job of playing Karen, and Chris Sarandon as Matthew is excellent. It may not be their best acting roles or movies in their career but 'The Temptress is a compelling and interesting film to watch, with a very nice love scene between Chris and Kim, which is a pleasure to watch. Anyone that is curious about this film, give it a chance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye Candy and Mind Candy!
Kim Delaney, always a pleasure to watch, returns from a trip to India during which, without her conscious knowledge, she'd been "inoculated" with the strength of a Hindu female goddess. Among what follows is some pleasant-to-watch erotica. And, of course, a struggle.

It's not of Academy Award caliber; there were two scenes I would expect to see in a "B" movie. The rest, in my opinion, more than makes up for these two scenes.

Given what happened in New York on September 11th and America's response, this movie has a message about violence and non-violence. Don't look for it to be a simplistic message.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular and very pleasantly erotic movie!
If you are looking for a good movie to watch, then you must find a place to rent this or buy it. Because it will knock your socks off!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing will distract you from the TV while watching.
Temptress was a creative film full of erotic mystisism. "Karen" is an about-face from Kim Delaney's role on NYPD Blue as the reserved Diane Russell. The story development was somewhat predictable and the final resolution at the end was rather quick but the film is full of action that will keep your eyes glued to the TV. This is Kim Delaney at her best. ... Read more

Marvel Comics always seems to come up short in the comics-to-movies transition, often because their adaptations veer away from both their comic book feel and their original story. This lesser-known conversion--which didn't even air in some parts of the country back in 1978--is the most faithful of the '70s Marvel adaptations, from a lead actor who looks the part to specific sets and some moderately decent effects. Peter Hooten stars as psychiatrist Stephen Strange, an unwitting heir to mystical powers which aging sorcerer Lindmer seeks to bestow on him (it's his destiny). When the evil Morgan LeFay is sent by an evil demon from another dimension to snuff out the aging sorcerer and begin the takeover of Earth, Linder fends her off as his pupil, Wong, seeks out Strange for his initiation into the mystic arts. When the reluctant Strange learns that one of his patients, student Clea Lake, has become an unwitting pawn in this cross-dimensional war, he tries to save her and then attempts to fend off LeFay before she bridges the gap between dimensions.

Admitted, this movie is more suited to fans of the comic than to outsiders, but that said, it is the Marvel adaptation most likely to entice people into investigating its source material. Hooten delivers an appealing performance as the compassionate Strange; his acting is what drives this piece. John Mills is decent as Lindmer, and Anne-Marie Martin emphatically plays the victimized Lake, but Jessica Walter is a bit too cold and distant as sinister sorceress LeFay, despite her cool, icy stare. Luckily, Paul Chihara's moody electronic score (reminiscent of Goblin's music in Dario Argento films) adds tension to the movie. You can tell the filmmakers were setting up a series that never came, and it's too bad because there was a lot of potential here. --Bryan Reesman ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In the Name of Riel, Scourge of Demons!
There is a barrier that separates the known from the unknown. Beyond this threshold lies a battleground, where forces of Good and Evil are in eternal conflict. The fate of mankind hangs in the balance and awaits the outcome.

In every age and time, some of us are called to join the battle.

This is the story of Dr. Stephan Strange, a man in middle years who suddenly discovers the great mystery of his own life, and of all life. He comes face-to-face with the Ancient One, Master of the Hermetic Arts- Sorcerer Supreme. He is told that he has been chosen to be the next bearer of this mantle, the next champion of Light. Yet he cannot accept it. To change his mind it takes exposure to the nemesis of Light, Morgan- who is Kali, who is Lillith, who is Ishtar.... Only then does Stephen accept his destiny- and the sacrifice of the mortal pleasures of ignorance, progeny, and an easy death. The only thing he doesn't sacrifice is Love, for that is the very fabric of the Universe itself- the Universe that he now serves.

Based on the Marvel Comics series, this film will probably disappoint some purists. There is no mention of Tibet, or the accident that cost Dr. Strange the use of his hands (in the comics he was a surgeon, here he is a psychologist), and the Ancient One is a westerner (John Mills) and lives in New York. However, the spirit of the original is definitely here. I saw this on television in the late 70's and never forgot it. A measure of how good it is, is the fact that it was released on video even though it was a made-for-TV pilot for a series that never materialized.

2-0 out of 5 stars Oh my, not DrStrange at all
Ok, I bought it but it is only for my DrStrange Museum I am collecting anything that has his name on but BOY if you're not a DrStrangeaholic run from this tape; it is not what you'd expect.

4-0 out of 5 stars a little scary, but a very good movie
Another marvel Hero is adapted in a T.V.movie. Doctor Strange is less popular than Spider-Man, Hulk and Captain America but if you are a comic books fan, you have to see this movie specialy if you are a live-action super-heroes collector. Like all others T.V. super-Heroes (Hulk, Spider-Man, Captain America), the origin is very different from the comic books. In this movie, Dr Strange is a psychiatrist(in the comic-books, he's a surgeon). In years, i did not see this movie at tv and there is no chance to see this movie at t.v. The only chance to see this movie is to buy it, and do it fast before this movie becomes unavailable. I do not recommend it for children under 10, because there are some scary scenes. Why they did not do a second movie or a regular series ? It would have been interesting. I heard a few years ago there was suppose to have a big budget movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars POSSIBLY THE BEST COMIC-BOOK MOVIE OF ALL TIME
If you are a Dr. Strange fan you will immediately notice the changes from the comics. The Ancient One becomes Merlin from King Arthur. Doctor Strange changes from a surgeon to a phychiatrist. But, this well made TV Pilot is well worth seeing. If I remember correctly, it got better ratings than the Incredible Hulk, Spider-man and the other Marvel Comics pilots. CBS got complaints about "witchcraft" and in the 70s shyed away from it. Peter Hooten does Doc well with his portrayal. And Jessica Walter went on to star on Days Of Our Lives and is easy on the eyes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than average fantasy movie
I first saw this movie in 1978 and was quite impressed by it. "Dr. Strange" has good acting and an interesting story; definitely above average for a film based on a comic book. I believe this film was supposed to be the pilot for a proposed TV series, but unfortunately it wasn't picked up by the network. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Vampire as Rotten S.O.B. Extraordinary
I think I've seen just about every well-known [and several not-so-well-known ones, this one included] movie about the legendary bloodsucking Count Dracula or his cousins, but this one gives a slant to the old tired plot that doesn't get a lot of attention: vampire as Rotten S.O.B. Extraordinary. Even Bram Stoker in his novel gives the Count a moment of pity at the end of his tale-- a look of relief and peace as the stake is driven in into his heart at the very end. Ever since then we've seen tormented vampires who hate the evil that they must do to survive, their terrible lonliness and separation from the rest of humanity. Only the very old "Nosferatu", made in the 20's, created a real villian. And he was ugly to boot. The old Hammer films with Christopher Lee also created the vampire as a good-old-fashioned villian, but who had a dark attraction that he was able to make good use of. It was, all the same, the kind of attraction, the horrified fascination, for his victims like that of a deer caught in the headlights of a fast-moving train.

Here, in this treatment, we have a vampire who is so totally without any bit of good in him that he is truly Evil. He is a Fiend, blood dripping from his fangs [which we never see]. His vengeance is so horrible on the people who stand in his way that is it reminiscent of Jack the Ripper. It goes without saying that this vampire has enormous, even overpowering sex appeal, but it also is plain that his female tools or victims [usually both] are no important to him than lab rats. He is a serial killer more than the quasi-romantic image of the good man who happens to be a vampire; his killings are not the result of some awful childhood or catastrophic emotional event. He is a monster. Our sympathises are not with him, but with his victims.

Real monster movies are actually rather rare. This is one of them, and even though the posse of vampire killers are such flat and 2-D characters that it makes the vampire look complex by comparison, the film is worth watching for its different treatment of the vampire as villian. Richard Lynch, who is far from conventionally handsome, has a horrifying way of grabbing your attention and keeping it squarely on him. It's partly the fascination of the rabbit by the cobra, but also the unconscious fear of the power of sexual attraction. The novel "Dracula" fairly pants with sexual heat all through it, to an amzaing degree considering it's overwrought, even purplish Victorian prose. The Victorian age was famous for it's amnesiac denial of sexual drives, while the studied avoidance even vague sexual terms in polite conversation ["limb" vs. "leg"] drew attention to it...the 12-foot aligator in the living room. In this case, it's the 6-ft naked sexual aggression of a man-like beast. You'd like to ignore it, but you can't. This is the jet engine that drives the immense popularity of the vampire myth. This movie, unlike many of it's kind, lets you feel the power.

I wish this movie was available for purchase. It hardly airs on TV anymore. No true vampire/Dracula afficianado should count his or her education complete without seeing it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Really Cute Movie!
Goin Ape was not received well by the professional critics when this movie was released to theaters in 1981 but I watched it on HBO and I thought it was a very cute movie with some really funny scenes. Tony Danza plays a man who will inherit a million dollars but there is a catch to it and in order for him to get the money he has to take care of three apes which adds to a lot of cute scenes and besides that there are some thugs who are tyring to steal the apes. Danny DeVito who was in the sitcom Taxi with Tony Danza is in this movie too playing his friend and Jessica Walter and Stacey Nelkin play a mother and daughter who help them protect the apes and are also love interests. This movie is cute and has some slapstick humor and I recommend it to people who like movies featuring animals and movies with slapstick humor and also to fans of the actors in Goin' Ape. I would like to see this movie put out on a DVD (Widescreen). But even a DVD that has widescreen on one side and fullscreen on the other side would be ok.

5-0 out of 5 stars Going Ape Rules!
Going Ape is a great movie about a man and his chimps. That man, the great Tony Danza, stars in some of his finest work. Danny Devito also appears in the film and runs around in his underwear a lot. If you like nutty hi-jinx with large monkeys, this is the movie for you! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Truly Different Comedy That Dares To Take Chances
Tapeheads tells the story of two guys looking to make it big in music videos who inadvertantly, and unwittingly get mixed up a greater scandal involving a pornographic video starring a presidential canidate. As another review pointed out, the humor is in no way subtle or clever in the truest sense of the word, but then again it's not sophomoric or dirty either. The fact of the matter is that this movie is really unlike many other comedies I have ever seen. Miniscule comparrisons to films like Better Off Dead are possible I suppose (though maybe its simply John Cusacks appearance in both films which brings the movie to mind) but all in all, you're really not likely to see anything like this again for a very long while.

The performances are of course terrific, as Cusack and Robbins really let loose and go wild on screen, sacrificing almost anything for a joke. Sometimes the jokes work, sometimes they dont, but it doesn't matter because you will be so enamoured with the strangeness of film to complain about those few moments that don't quite turn out right. And the ones that do - well I cant say you'll be rolling on the floor, because again, its bizzare enough so that you'll probably simply be struck with some unsure smile for the duration of the movie, but then you'll watch it again... and again... and again.

Why? Because, it's a film thats genuinely different. And honestly, how many movies can you really say that about? Not many.

5-0 out of 5 stars A parody for the ages
This movie showcases the talents of Michael Nesmith mirroring the same quirky humor that made the "Monkees" television show so hilarious. The central focus of this movie is the growing music video industry during the eighties. This movie is a parody of the what the industry was like and how to two guys could make it big. John Cusak and Tim Robbins play two buddies that have dreams of making it big in the video business. They each contribute their own brand of humor. John is the slick entrepenuer and Tim is the naive but talented producer. After getting fired they decide to go into the video business. They find the business to be challenging but never allow themselves to give up. They are motivated by their love for the "Swanky Modes" (Sam Moore and Junior Walker). Nesmith uses so many funny little quirks throughout this movie that you will need to watch it at least two more times to catch everything. Each time you watch it, it gets funnier and funnier. The film is strengthened by a cast of cameos by artists such as Ted Nugent and Don Cornelius as "Moe Fuzz, President of Fuzzball Records". The film also boasts a great soundtrack. This movie is a must for anyone's collection if you are a fun of quirky humor like "Airplane" and even the "Marx Brothers".

1-0 out of 5 stars AMAZINGLY INEPT MOVIE
Based on these reviews I thought to try a genre I'd not explored.
Ohmy, never again. Suggestion: Critically read reviews; going back
after viewing TAPEHEADS I saw clues to the inept, shallow, silly,
awkward, amateurish nature of this faulty flick.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Any ordinary man wouldn't think twice..."
First off, I adore this movie. Both Tim Robbins and John Cusack are, to quote Rik from "The Young Ones", BWILLIANT!!! The cast, the music, the dialogue and everything else about this film is totally turbular (... yes, even though I am from New York AND the 80s are over, I still talk like a Valley Boy...)! Some of the funniest scenes in the movie are how Josh and Ivan's music videos are taken directly from videos that we have all seen on MTV (when there was still "M" in MTV). My personal favourite was their tribute to Duran Duran's video "Is There Something I Should Know?" The whole video is in black and white and then a small child throws a ball that is in colour (orange). I gave a happy sigh when I saw that scene. Anyway, that's all Pat has to say in this review. Right now, I am jonesing for some Vanilla Quik so, I must away. Ciaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaao!

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant multilayered deadpan satire, that not all will get
A wildly uneven, early Cusack and Robbins comedy that you will either love or hate. As a cohesive whole it's not that much of a movie, but the deadpan satire, the quotable lines, the cameos, the skits, and the layer after layer of pop culture in-references make this movie a trivia buff's dream. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good adaptation of a cute novel
This is a pretty good adaptation of Cara Lockwood's novel of the same name, although as any book to movie transition, a lot of left on the cutting room floor. But what is captured is the chemistry of the leads, Lauren and Nick, as well as the deviousness of the psycho-bride, Darla.

Basically, it is the story of a harried wedding planner in the middle of a divorce who meets the fireman of her dreams, only to discover that he may be the groom in an upcoming wedding.

Really charming and romantic!

3-0 out of 5 stars Theme song
I liked the movie very much it is very nice.

Would like to know who sings the song The way you look tonight in this movie.

3-0 out of 5 stars Read the book!
I saw this movie and it's OK, the plot it's a little different in the book but I think they did a good job with it. However, I HIGHLY recomend reading the book. The book it's great, very funny & entertaining, once you start reading it you dont want to put it down!

3-0 out of 5 stars cheep take off
This movie is an open take off of Jlo's "The wedding planner". But it plays the story better then the latter. A happy, light movie. Nothing unpleasant goes on.You know how it will end, you just have to sit back and see what extra plot twists they can throw in before it finally winds down to the inevitable. (Girl gets guy, leaves mean boss lady. Nasty girl gets whats coming to her.)This movie never achieves greatness, but neither does it strive for it.
