5-0 out of 5 stars fun movie
I remember watching this movie over and over when I was younger. You can't go wrong with the Olsen twins movies from when they were little--I'm sure most of us would agree that they were absolutely adorable and endearing at this age.

DDTT is a fun Halloween movie with lots of magic and supernatural powers that might be too much for younger kids, but it's still a very enjoyable film. Sick and tired of being twins, 7-year-olds Lynn and Kelly often get into fights. After experiencing cold rejection from their witch aunt Agatha and hearing stories from a mysterious "grave-digger," the girls finally learn of their parents' financial problems and set off on their own to rescue their beloved Aunt Sophia, who was the victim of a spell from her sister Agatha 7 years ago and is the only person who will be able the family get out of debt. And of course, lots of friends are made along the way, and the movie has got Mary-Kate and Ashley as the stars--a good formula for a kids' film.If you're a kid, you'll probably enjoy watching this on Halloween--if you're like me or anyone else who remembers the Olsen twins' younger days, you'll also enjoy watching and remembering.

5-0 out of 5 stars my favorite Olsen movie
This is my favorite Olsen movie that they have made, mainly because unlike so many of their more recent movies, it has a good plot and a very good supporting cast. The plot sends 7-year-olds Lynn and Kelly on a Halloween night mission to get a magical moonstone from their evil aunt who has cast a spell on their other aunt. Fun for little kids, but also enjoyable for older fans. It's a good movie to pull out around Halloweentime (or whenever) and at 17 years old, I am not ashamed to watch it because it is truly one of Mary-Kate and Ashley's better movies. I guess the reason I think that is because of the stronger recognition of the other characters--they really get a more substantial role in the movie than the surrounding characters in some of MKA's other movies. In this film, you'll fall in love with the endearing gravedigger, the money-hungry yet lovable Mr. N, and the supportive, "take charge" Oscar the Clown. And then you've got the girls' parents--who, for once, actually act like parents. Gentle, loving, good people--and yet they have problems of their own that they must get through as a family. Now you start to get the feel of a real movie with a real plot. Too many of Mary-Kate and Ashley's movies either have them with single moms or dads(which there is nothing wrong with at all, but it got a little repetitive with the Olsens) or completely up-in-the-clouds parents who were practically at their feet doting on them and giving them everything, thus showing the viewer exactly what life is NOT like. This movie is one exception where the casting of the girls' parents is very strong and realistic. After seeing enough of their other films, you may grow to appreciate seeing this. I am a long-time fan of these girls' films--have been ever since their memorable Full House days. But if you're looking for a quality Olsen movie, I'd recommend that you go for the ones from their younger years--this one may be your best bet. But that's only my opinion.

1-0 out of 5 stars Parents Beware
I purchased this video and was appalled when I watched it with my child. The twins go home with a homeless man without a second thought! What kind of message is this for children? Plus, the movie has disturbing imagery, that I found scary even as an adult. This is not wholesome entertainment!

Looking for a good "scary" movie for five+? Try The Ghost and Mr. Chicken with Don Knots. I loved it, and now all the many children in my life love it, too.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't get this video
This is a scary show, not due to the Halloween content, but because two little girls run away from home, talk to a stranger (a homeless man, or "hobo", go into another stranger's house (who is a midget male clown), need I say more? Although these fellows turn out to be nice guys, we all know that doesn't always happen in the real world. Bad message for kids who are supposed to be learning not to talk to strangers!

5-0 out of 5 stars Double Double tiol and trouble
I loved the movie. I am a big fan of the olsen twins. I have liked them since they were in Full House as babies. They are so cute and I am going to keep bying their movies until they stop making them. They are such a joy to watch on tv considering all of the bad junk that is on tv these days. I have a 3 year old child who loves the olsen twins as well. she gets me ot go out and buy them when she

Based on an improbable but true story, Cool Runnings concerns the Jamaican bobsled team that competed in the 1988 Winter Olympics. Director Jon Turteltaub (Phenomenon) does a fine job with both the absurdity of the situation (the athletes had never even seen snow) and the passion behind it (their desire to compete and win). John Candy, in one of his last roles, is touching as a disgraced coach who seizes the opportunity to work with the Jamaicans as a chance for redemption. The bobsled scenes look good, and the races are exciting. The climax, which is entirely unexpected, takes the film to a wholly different level, even if events in the story don't quite match the facts. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Runnings warms the heart
I remember seeing this movie in the theatre when it first came out. It's the heart-warming true story behind the 1988 Jamaican bobsled team. After jumping through numerous hoops such as racial discrimination, a coach with a shady past, and a rickety bobsled, they land themselves a bobsledding spot in the Winter Olympics, something Jamaica never had before.
John Candy gives a stellar performance, unfortunately it was one of his last. At times he's comical, while others, more dramatic. He's a character easy to fall in love with. I miss him.
Overall, Cool Runnings teaches the fundamentals of determination and never letting anything come between yourself and your dreams. Even when catastrophy ended the Jamaican's third bobsled run, they still got up and carried their sled across the finish line. Even if their time didn't earn a gold medal, their heart did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart- warming and inspiring...
Bobsled to a Caribbean is like a Yeti to the Sahara desert. Both simply dont exist!. And yet, 4 guys with dreams in their eyes, set out to acheive the unmaginable in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. To represent their country Jamaica in Bobsledding!.

"Cool Runnings" is based on this true story, but with a few changes that needless to say, is aimed at making the movie more dramatic. Leon(Derice Bannock)is an athlete aimed at making amends for his failure to secure a berth in the Jamaican Sprint Team. With no way out, he decides to try Bobsled, a sport no Caribbean in his right mind would even know it exists. Irv Blitzer(John Candy), a disgraced former champion Bobsledder decides to train Leon the intricacies of this "bone-shattering" sport. To compete in the event would however require 3 more bobsledders to make up the team. In comes his best friend Sanka(Doug.E.Doug), the tempermental Yul Brenner(Malik Yoba) and the reserved Junior Bevil(Rawle Lewis). What you end up with is a team of hysterical proportions, but with a heart.

"Cool Runnings" is not so much about the event as it is with the main characters. The Jamaicans are determined to compete in an event that is considered solely the domain of a few Icelandic- Nordic nations. The 4 guys are felt out of place, racialized and ridiculed at the event while the coach(Candy) is humiliated and taunted at every turn by the organizers. The crux lays in how they overcome their hardships and ultimately win the crowd, if not a medal. The movie is absolutely hilarious considering the Jamaicans have never seen snow in real life. The initial training on their island is itself worth every penny you paid to watch this movie. However the movie's main strength is in its moral message. "Believe". The movie is based entirely on this one word.

Leon is superb in his role as the leader who never gives up. John Candy is without doubt an actor with a heart of gold. Every movie he has been involved in, he brings in that 'human element' into picture. He is perfect as the flawed but determined coach. The find of the movie however, is Rawle Lewis as Junior Beville. He has the best dialogues and behind that meek physique ,stands a truly compassionate and competitive character. Sanka is the funny bone whose expressions are enough to spill your guts out while Yul Brenner is a tough but protective fellow who eventually warms up to the team and gets transformed at the end of the event. Ultimately it is the will and the confidence they derive from each other at every turn of the event that makes this movie so heart-warming.

The movie has a nice flow to it and the music is catchy. Jon Tutletaub(Director) puts everyting in the right place and the direction is straight forward but slick. Though some parts of the movie are fictionalized, it is forgivable since the main theme isn't lost. Infact it actually enhances it. I must say that movies like this generally tend to have a predictable ending. You'll know you'll have a happy one at that. But watch Cool Running's final few scenes and the phrase 'finish the race' will take a whole new meaning to you. The ending is inspiring..surprising..simply magnificent. Go watch it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hillarious and Inspirational
Everytime I watch Cool Runnings, I still feel the magic and excitement of the first time I watched it. This movie is exceptional. Everything about it works.
The acting is powerful, the story is both exciting and moving, the comedy is fresh and enjoyable, and the soundtrack is perfectly suited to support the mood of the movie.
Cool Runnings is a perfect family film. People of all ages will be drawn to it and enjoy cheering for the Jamaican Bobsled team. There is some mild use of profanity, but it can be overlooked in favor of the moving story, and the morals that children will pick up along with it. Cool Runnings shows the value of pride, tolerance, and persistance.
Throughout the course of the movie we see the team prove to the world through their persistance that they are just as good as any other team, regardless of where they come from. They learn to become a team, learn to take pride in their culture, and do a lot of self discovery.
This movie is one of the few that is sure to touch you and to uplift your spirit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teenagers dig this movie!
Catchy music, funny crashes, bar fight, a sledder who pees in the sled because he's so scared, calling each other names like Sanka and Yul Brynner....all make for a great laugh in the eyes of a teenager. I've shown this movie to dozens of teens and it never disappoints. The fact is that it's a true story of people chasing their dream, and it has a perfect blend of silly with poignant and great pace to keep adults and young adults alike INTERESTED and entertained the entire time. Also, it follows real life at the end and doesn't have a bunch of no-name Jamaicans taking the gold at the Olympics....teens expect a Disney ending like that and appreciate seeing, instead, the truth. However, ANYONE who watches it finds themselves rooting for these no-name Jamaicans and kind of wishing they would medal even though, realistically, they have no chance. BUY IT and watch it and show it to others...its timeless themes never go out of date.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Movies I've Seen
"Cool Runnings" is one of the best movies I have seen.
The story line, John Candy and the Jamaican Bobsledders,
the switch from warm Jamaica to cold Calgary all make for a
warm and funny movie. I'm going to take the advice of another
reviewer and watch it now to revive the "feel-good" feeling
of the entire movie. A classic to buy and keep. A true
comedy. ... Read more

This is the best of the three movies about a boy and his killer whale. Beautifully photographed, it's worth watching just for the heavenly British Columbian scenery and underwater photography. It helps that the story is well thought out and more expertly executed than the first two films in this series. Jason James Richter, the little boy from the previousFree Willy flicks, is given a credible role as a research assistant trying to understand why whale populations are decreasing. His story parallels that of the son of an illegal whaler who knows his father is involved in criminal activity and is particularly disturbed by the moral ramifications. Unlike the pro-environment characters in other movies, the fishermen in this story are given a valid point of view, as they are facing very real economic hardships due to the overfishing of the oceans. This plot tangent is given equal footing with the friendship between the two key boys in the story. It all gets a little too corny, but overall this is recommended as a family picture.--Rochelle O'Gorman ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as Good has the first 2,but still a great movie
I found this Free Willy the worst out of the series, not because the movie was bad,it was good but there was some parts in this movie that peaple didnt like. The little kid kinda messed up the bond between Willy and Jesse. But this was still a great movie, what an ending this movie had,Willy becomes a daddy, shocking ending to a great series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bad Ending to a Great Series
Ok, this was a great movie, as all the Free Willy movies were, it is just unfortunate that they didn't know this would be the last. If they knew, I'm sure it would have been so much better. I loved the Free Willy series, and when I learned they lost their budget and there would be no more, I look at the ending of Free Willy 3 and think, "This great series is over for eternity, and the last lines were, "Well I think we should call him Max" ?". Truly unfortunate. Anyways, this flick is aimed at an older audience. There are unsuitable features in this one, unsuitable for young ones, but makes the older ones happy.

2-0 out of 5 stars They Replaced Jessie
I liked this movie but they replaced Jessie. They had This 10 year old kind of come in and try to be the hero. I mean what was so special about the first too movies is that Jessie was the only one Willy trusted and then they had this ten year old come in and all of the sudden he and Willy were special friends. They should have left it alone with that special friendship between Willy and Jessie.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 stars

1-0 out of 5 stars ZERO STARZ!

The temptation here is to make a joke aboutIntersection and dead ends--but this disappointing film has too much talentinvolved to kid about how wrong it went. Based on the French film LesChoses de la Vie, the film was adapted by the usually reliable MarshallBrickman (Annie Hall) and David Rayfiel (The Firm). RichardGere plays a man caught between two women: his chilly, remote wife (Sharon Stone)and his vibrant young mistress (Lolita Davidovich). How the marriagedeclined, how the affair began, and how the two women's paths eventuallycross--everything is seen in flashback after Gere's car spins out of control in ahorrible accident. Director Mark Rydell has some of the squarest dialoguein recent movie history to work with, as he dissects how the marriagefell apart because of the wife's coolness and Gere's subsequentattraction to Davidovich's cocky young journalist. --Marshall Fine ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Live Every Moment, as if it were your last.....
That was the tag line from this great movie, about choices, love, and death. Thats really what life is all about, if you sit back and think about it. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I am so happy that my favorite actress was involved in it SHARON STONE brings a strong hard preformance after her best role ever in SLIVER, she comes back with a bang. This movie is definetly not going to let you down. Its about a Vancouver Architect who is in love with his wife, and his mistress. When the two women cross paths, his life becomes shattered. This movie will have you crying for more, as it ends with a.......

5-0 out of 5 stars THE "INTERSECTION" OF GREAT ACTING AND DIRECTION
Richard Gere guides you through his life in a series of flashbacks that details his troubled marriage and the meeting of his significant other. The movie clearly keeps your attention by cleverly combining flashbacks with the present day to tell a story in an unconventional way. The storyline can probably be applied to almost anyone who views the movie. We all have shared this struggle with emotion. Maybe the critics see too much of themselves in this movie, therefore they have cast it aside in order not to shine any light on their own lives.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved this movie
I absolutely loved this movie. Totally feel that it did not get the acclaim it deserved. You fall head over heels with Lolita Davidovitch's character because she is so warm, loving, funny and human. Sharon Stone, while a bit of an ice queen, is the mother of Gere's child and still has a large part of his heart. My favorite part of the movie is the last scene with the women together. While they are miles apart in style and attitude, they both have an amazing amount of heart and class in their own unique way that comes through in the way neither chooses to hurt the other.

3-0 out of 5 stars Intersection
Interesting premise here. Sharon and Richard are divorced, sharing custody of a daughter who is flirting with an eating disorder. Through flashbacks, we're shown some of the factors that led to the demise of the marriage. Mmeanwhile, we see Davidivich and Gere who meet at an auction. They hit it off and she'd like their relationship to continue on to the next phase--moving in together.

Gere must chose between the family left behind, and rekindling an old passion, and moving forward with a new flame.

Sharon Stone does a terrific job, as does Gere and Davidivich. A common situation ends uncommonly. Making choices, regret, fate, and letting go are all addressed here. Not an Oscar winner, no, but worth watching.

5-0 out of 5 stars Such an exellent American film ... so underrated ? Why ?
Why it is so underrated ? May be because it doesn't have normal good ending ... but in my point of view - it does . The scene between Lolita Davidovich and Sharon Stone at the end ... THIS what made a real good end to this fine film .
Richard Gere is stuck between his controlfreak reach wife ( Sharon Stone )and a love of his life ( Lolita Davidovich ). He stuck between must and want . He has to pick , but he cann't . And we think , we know his final desision ... but we don't . At the last minute of this film we do find out ... and we still surprised . ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Close to a classic
I rate SHANE, HIGH NOON, and THE CULPEPPER CATTLE COMPANY as the three best westerns ever made.

I rate this as about half as good---but the 4th best best western I have seen.
Lance Hendrickson is terrific as he gives off the sympathetic persona of a sad, resigned, top level professional (gunfighter) who is true to his calling, whether he chooses the situations he finds himself in or not. The picnic scene with his daughter (who doesn't know he is her father) as she chatters on about her father--how she would have liked so much to have known him---how (she was told) he was killed in the war----is wrenching. The contrast between the innocent, chattering young girl and the grizzled, weatherbeaten-by-life, but tough as nails aging gunfighter is brought home strongly.

The final scene is the best gunfight in any movie (I realize the finale of Shane is tops too).
The bad guy here is absolutely terrific----one of the best , scummiest, slimiest badguys ever. The guy deserves an oscar for what he did there (He has one from ME). The long,drawn-out prelude to the actual gunfight---- where the head bad guy talks and talks and talks to give his two fellow hoods time to manuever into positions that makes it look impossible for the hero to come out alive--- is the highlight of the movie.

The very ending, where the daughter finally gets an inkling of who the stranger might be, is wrenchingly effective.

Well worth seeing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Larry Ferguson made one good movie. This aint it.
Kay Lenz, former dogqueen of the Movie of the Week genre uglies this thing down to the bargain basement of the sadly missed quality Western. And I love Lance Henricksen but he's just a little too sullen and introspective to make his Frank Morgan character interesting. However, Nikki DeLoach turns in a terrific performance as his long estranged daughter by guess who....the ubiquitous Kay Lenz of course. Gaaak.

Too bad you cant Photoshop a movie. Oh well, wish I hadn't bought this. Guess there's usually a good reason why these things go out of print.

5-0 out of 5 stars Henriksen: Nobody does it better
Lance Henriksen (Aliens, Near Dark) gets a real chance to display his seasoned talents in this engaging western. He is truly convincing as the legendary, unpredictable gunfighter Frank Morgan. He's as bad as they come but not without style. This movie rates up there with any western made yet. If you love westerns, this is a must see. If you enjoy Mr. Henriksen's bravado-style of acting, setting him apart in any role he plays, this is a must own. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than any Clint Eastwood western, in my opinion.
This is the most awesome western film ever. I love the Eastwood films, but this one seems to be a combination of all of them. In spite of a totally unbelievable ending with a bullet in the center of his back (after being seriously shot up and barely able to move out of his bed from a gunfight a couple of days before), Lance, the "gunfighter from Hell" who makes a six gun act like a machine gun, provides an awesome portrayal! Sort of like "the living dead" with a gun. Gut wrenching and manly, especially with his ex-wife's "15 year non-relationship," the long-suffering Lance rides off into the sunset. Just awesome. Great cult western. Lance is brilliant and convincing, and that is what makes this western work....

5-0 out of 5 stars Remarkable performance by Henrikson
This is a "small" movie but very entertaining. The attraction is Lance Henrikson's acting. His "tough as nails" gunfighter is, in my opinion, the best ever done in any movie. He has a physical presence and a capacity for projecting menace that no one can match. This movie also has "texture," meaning the sets and scenes don't quite have that too-pat look. They're a bit more authentic than usual. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Im a big fan of Ginger Snaps
My dad and brother dont like it but I love it the 1st and 2d was cool I love those movies but I cant wait to see Ginger Snaps 3 The review you wrote when you met Emily Perkins you are so lucky I wish I could meet her o well I guess I have to wait till Ginger Snaps 3 comes out.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great beginning to this great trilogy
Yesterday,I went to the Ginger Snaps 3 premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal. It was so great to see Emily and Katharine on the the big screen again. In this one,the sisters Brigitte and Ginger go from town to town because they're parents "drowned".But when Brigitte gets caught in a werewolf trap, the have to go to this remote outpost where the people are batteling "demons" at night for Brigitte's leg to heal. There,Ginger gets bit by a boy who is turning ito a werewolf. So from there, lost of things happend. The movie has a really great atmosphere, great set and is filmed beautifully. It also has some scares and the humor from the first two was still there.Every fan of the first two will love this one and those who didn't even see the first two don't even have to see then because this is totaly different and doesn't follow the story of the first two.At the premiere,Emily Perkins was there and the producer.I got to take Emily's autograph and took a picture with her(she is so ugly in the movie but in real life she is hot).Anyway go see the movie in theatres if it's released(maybe in August says the producer) and if it's not,buy the dvd. ... Made for television in 1993, and starring Drew Barrymore during her "bad girl" period, The Amy Fisher Story is arguably the best of the film adaptations made about the Long Island Lolita. Any film would have its hands full trying to depict the chaotic chain of events and tangled plot of the infamous shooting, so rather than refine any single viewpoint, the story unfolds with a Rashomon-like quality, depicting the tale of the assault in a series of flashbacks.Sometimes this leads to flashbacks within flashbacks, and even flashbacks within flashbacks within flashbacks, but don't worry, we've got ominous musical cues and grainy 16mm black-and-white stock to help us keep the story straight, which is more than we had at the time.

The movie does take a critical look at the television and print tabloids and their roles in the inflation of this event. It awkwardly, perhaps a little self-consciously, depicts the escalating and infringing influence of the media until it is impossible to extricate the reporters from the reported.Ultimately the "detached" press finds itself posting portions of Amy's bail, recording Joey's defense on live shock radio, encouraging those closest to the players to record supposedly intimate conversations, and then cheerfully reporting the ensuing pandemonium with a tsk-tsk aside and a sly wink.Couple all this with the wonderfully studied performance of Drew Barrymore, whose dialect and mannerisms are spot-on Amy, and the smarmy performance of Anthony John Denison as Joey Buttafuoco (you can actually smell the WD40) and you get a fun 90-minute movie. --Steffan Ziegler ... 5-0 out of 5 stars DAME GOOD MOVIE!! THE BEST BY FAR!!
i have all 3 amy fisher movies still have yet to see the alyssa monlina one its coming in the mail soon exicted about that. First and formost i have to say this amy fisher movie is the best by far that i have seen drew was the best amy no one can deny that and the acting is fanstatic for a made for tv movie its incredible. The way drew potrayed amy is the way everyone saw her as a bitchy but innoncent girl who had alot of anger inside. You feel sorry for amy after watching this one (as you do in watching the other one with the one for nbc which i also wrote a review on) the movie potrays everyones acccount which i like it focous more on the scandel itself then the amy fisher story if you want to see that one watch lethal lotltia with noell parker great one also as i said. But by far drew is the best plain and simple no one did as good and no one can deny that!

3-0 out of 5 stars Too Realistic?
How much you enjoy this movie will depend upon how much interest you have in Amy Fisher's story. Absent the fact that it is based upon real events, it is not all that exciting. It is well acted and filmed and makes some interesting comments upon the media, but that's all. From the perspective of realism and professionality, it is the best film made about Amy Fisher, but as a result is far less amusing than the other two films made from the perspective of Amy and Joey. It is more difficult to find humour in the characters when they are more real. This film, vs. the other two, shows equal sympathy (and condemnation) towards all those involved. Thus, as an exploitation film, it is not that great. The liner notes in the booklet about what Fisher and co. are doing now is far more entertaining and bizarre than anything in the film. Regarding the few new minutes added, I can see why they would be edited out of TV broadcasts, but they barely rate anything more than a PG-13.

Watching this film did not leave me wanting to regain lost time, but it's not particularly memorable and I can't picture myself watching it a second time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad. Not Great.
I watched this for Drew and she did not disappoint.

This was a very interesting role for her to agree to do...she was quite impressive. Her accent and the way she carried herself was fantastic. I wish it could have gone into more detail...I thought the story was too vague. If I had any questions about what happened they wouldn't really have been answered here...there are too many conflicting stories...it doesn't make sense to me that Amy Fisher was the only person convicted of anything...maybe that's the point?

Drew can do no wrong in my book...I'd watch her paint a fence! If you're an admirer I'd like to suggest you buy this film...if you're not, I'd like to suggest you'd at least rent it. It's worth a peek.

2-0 out of 5 stars A movie as innacurate as the papers were.
I forced myself to sit through this movie when it aired on television the first time. Although the acting was decent, perhaps even good, it was based, unfortunately, primarily on the tabloids and inaccurate accounts in the newspapers/television reports. How do I know this? Simple. I grew up in Bellmore, Long Island and went to school, and was friends with Amy (which, btw, is not the correct spelling of her name, just another instance of the press not bothering to check their facts).
I personally feel watching this video, or any movie based upon the unfortunate real life (no matter how inaccurate) events of unfortunate people is tacky at best, but if you're going to watch it, please don't take it as the gospel of what really happened.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun
Although there are blatant references to "Lolita" (dig Alicia Silverstone in her huge sunglasses and swimsuit gazing up at Cary Elwes), "The Crush" is a suitable thriller despite being very predictable.

The premise is simple: Silverstone plays a fourteen year old who develops a crush on Elwes, who is a 28 year old newspaper reporter and has just moved into an apartment on the grounds of her family home. Elwes is dating Jennifer Rubin, and she's aware of the vibes being sent by Silverstone. But Elwes is either naive or enjoys the attention (you decide!!!) and puts himself into several compromising situations with Silverstone. Silverstone, who's clearly unstable, tightens the noose from then on, and eventually attempts to kill Elwes. The ending, also predictable, is appropriate.

This certainly isn't going to be on anyone's list of all-time best films, but it's worth owning on DVD (despite the fact that there's little that separates the VHS from the DVD). You'll enjoy popping it in every once in a while for a good scare. If nothing else, guys, you'll be very careful who you flirt with after watching this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Scream Queen Of The 90's!
Similar to the role Glenn Close played in "Fatal Attraction", Alicia Silverstone is terrifying as an obsessive teen who is "crazy" about the 28 year old living in her parent's guest house. After being told several times that she's too young for him, and finding out that he already has a girlfriend, she goes on a methodical rampage against the two. Tearing both of their lives apart. Tension builds throughout the film with various scary parts and an exciting, violent ending. Way better than "Swimfan".

4-0 out of 5 stars The Crush... True story
The movie is not only fun but a must see.. and the movie is now in my all time collection! well, I watched the movie years back but I had to recall the story of the movie and watch it again and again, as I am facing almost the same situation.. well I'm 25 and she is 15 and she has a crush on me 'no fun, trust me' and her mother (not father, like in the movie) is almost as same as Darian's father.. I've watched the movie thrice in last two days to understand few things about her moves.. I think you'd enjoy to understand the movie like i do (now) :)its fun and entertainment.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Crush
Great Fun! If I hadn't seen it on t.v., I never would have seen it anywhere else. I saw it while flipping through channels and was late to a meeting because I couldn't stop watching it, I had to see what was going to happen in the end.

3-0 out of 5 stars Watch Out!
Darian Forrester (Silverstone) is a 14 year-old Girl rapidly blossoming into a woman at a immense rate. Her IQ is above average and her eye for detail flawless. After earning himself a job working for a decidedly well thought-of magazine, Journalist Nick Eliot (Elwes) scans the neighbouring houses with a room to let. Shaken-up after practically knocking down Darian after she skated into the wheels of his arriving car, he notices that her residence has a guest house to let and after viewing the named house, snaps it up with no more then a few Ums and Errs. After a few days, Darian is smitten with the new lodger and things begin to lead themselves down the wrong path. After a kiss initiated by Darian, Nick backs off, and dismayed by his actions, warns off Darian. Skimpily clad in diminutive bikini's, provocative clothing and breath-taking body language, Darian refuses to take no for an answer and subsequent to attacking his lover, persists to abuse her welcome, with the police having to stand in within the concluding half hour.

Suffocating and thought-provoking, this a tall-tale that mirrors many a headline currently splashed on newspapers worldwide. Shapiro's direction is at times warped and the pacing does have its flaws, but yet it seems to work out and leaves you fulfilled with the end product. By far Silverstone's Best role yet, with only 'Clueless' to contend with, while Elwes's appeal is strong, and sporadically exasperating, is every now and then overruled by his 14 year-old counterpart.

A great movie with bright sets and a proficient script, this is in no way Cinema at its best, but yet a worthy edition to your home library. ... Read more

Based on a true story, this dark, disturbing comedy goes in unexpected directions and makes you laugh at the most appalling things. At the center of this story is the aptly named Harold Guppy (Rupert Graves), an orphan who is fresh out of the navy in 1950s London. He finds a situation as a boarder in the Beasley household, where husband Stanley (Matthew Walker) is no match for his hard-working, ever-industrious wife, Marjorie (Julie Walters). Marjorie, put off by the notion of sex with her husband, hungrily pursues the idea with her handsome young lodger, which triggers bouts of jealousy from her budding teen daughter, Joyce (Laura Sadler). This leads to an unsavory triangle; the sharklike Marjorie can't get enough of Guppy, leading to the shocking finale. Walters is a juggernaut and Graves plays a seeming innocent who can't get out of her--or his own--way. --Marshall Fine ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Truth Is ALWAYS Stranger Than Fiction, Ain't It, Folks?
ACTUALLY based on a true story, this dark comedy will have you glued to your TV screen for sure. The protagonist in this story is an orphan all grown up (sort of) by the name of Harold Guppy, a young man in 1950s London that just did a stint in the Queen's Navy.

Looking for a place to hang his hat, he ends up as a boarder in the quite WEIRD Beasley household, where Daddy Stanley, Mummy Marjorie & Baby Joyce reside & take him in as a family member (at first). Marjorie, a frumpy 50's something housewife, though very adept & conniving, is daily put off by the notion of sex with her sagging and slowly deteriorating husband. Thusly, Marjorie is searching for her lost youth so she hungrily and SHAMELESSLY pursues a fabulous affair with her handsome, love starved, young lodger, which triggers rages and MAJOR jealousy from her nubile, prepubescent budding baby daughter, Joyce, of whom also has a crush on Guppy & gives her virginity to him .

This ACTUALLY leads to a really freaky lust triangle. The insatiable Marjorie can't get enough sex from poor Mr. Guppy, gets jealous of her daughter and thus the movie has quite an eye-opening shocker of a finale... The TRUTH, my friends, IS STRANGER than FICTION!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Intimate Relations....
This must be the most amazing video you will ever see!!!!Im a fan of Rupert Graves aka Harold Cuppy. It will make you laugh, cringe and drool! Its a very good video that will never come out of your VCR!This is one Vid'that anyone would like. You'll regret not getting it!Look out 4 the young girl!
Ive given it 5 stars!IO/IO! This is Special.

5-0 out of 5 stars Witty and disturbing. Wonderfully acted.
I bought the video because I am a big fan of Ruper Graves. This is possibly the worst he has looked in a film and most unlikeable character he has played, but my respect for him as an actor grew a notch. The plot is very disturbing, but the witty dialogue and the British humor manage to keep me laughing all the way to the end. Although the tragic ending was expected and predicted, it still comes as a shock to the closure of this funny story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Brilliant Film Of Its Time
What a brilliant film! from the first time i saw it i fell in love with it, all the actors were brilliant but who stood out was Julie Walters her acting skills were and are magnificent she's absoloutely brilliant! I am a huge fan of all of Julie's work. Rupert Graves and Julie Walters brought the characters up to a high standard that may not have been achieved by other actors which made the film more enjoyable. I would recommend this film to all. Especially fans of Julie!

4-0 out of 5 stars Intimately Dark But Very Amusing
A pleasant tale this most certainly is not but then I guess that's part of the brilliance of this film as it is nicely sprinkled with those bits of dark humour that make it all the more interesting and draw you a bit closer to the characters. Julie Walters (always good) plays Majorie Beasly, a bored housewife approaching fifty who feels life is passing her by. And how does she liven things up a bit for herself? Why, she mercilessly seduces handsome young men who lodge with her of course. Only this time she makes a serious error of judgement when she picks on Harold Guppy an innocent, vulnerable de-mobbed sailor with a violent streak... To make things worse she is unwisely brazen about the affair in front of her confused adolescent daughter, Joyce.

Considering this is set in post-war Britain, an extremly drab and pruddish time, one can sympathise to a certain extent with the really rather nasty Majorie and one also suspects this sort of thing went on a lot more than we think.

And they say the older genrations should be wise.... ... Read more

It's hard to imagine what any of the extremely talented people involved in this drastic misfire were thinking. Certainly the film was not short of talent: it had director Neil Jordan (The Crying Game), writer David Mamet (The Untouchables), and movie stars Robert De Niro, Sean Penn, and Demi Moore. Instead of remaking the charming 1955 comedy, which starred Humphrey Bogart and Peter Ustinov, Mamet concocted a virtually laugh-free script in which Penn and De Niro play escaped convicts disguised as priests who are supposedly visiting a shrine in a small town. The closest this film comes to comedy is De Niro's embarrassing mugging (it's endless) and Penn's dumb-bunny routine. Suggested for film students who want to learn what not to do. --Marshall Fine ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite movies of all time
To me any movie with Sean Penn, or Robert DeNiro is going to be a good movie, and the combination of both of them in one movie is a masterpeice. The movie was Funny, and exiting. I hope whoever reads this review, sees the movie and enjoys it just like I did

5-0 out of 5 stars Sean Penn's best work
I thought it was a GREAT great movie. Funny, sad, thoughtful, but especially, I thought Sean Penn was dynamite! He manages to completely lose himself in the character and become this humble, bumbling, simple 'priest' while maintaining his reality as Robert DeNiro's fellow escapee.

5-0 out of 5 stars the big movie now, is "The Passion of Christ"
this is the big movie now; but this movie; maybe one needs to be Roman Catholic to totally get it and in that way; some might brace themselves for some sacrilege but it really is not so; it is a very spiritual movie; Penn and Deniro both put out top ranking performances; I watched it on USA network quite a few times before I knew the title of this movie and that some years prior, Humprhey Bogart made a movie with the same title but that the plots are not exactly a like. We see, some redemptions in this movie; Hoyt Axton writer of a song that had some swearing and that is the song "The Pusher" plays his role as Monsignor (or what ever precisely he was in the movie), absolutely devoutly, jovial (like an Irishman which he may well be) and perfectly; I believe, the order of Monks of which they are, are like Benedictines; the nostalgia of the movie is great, the humor, where Penn sees the sign reading some quotation from Galatians or similar; in saving their necks and getting a ride from an elderly lady, after they break out of prison.

Well, is that saying a lot? Didn't follow it?

Well; Sean Penn's role finds redemption in his role, iut is very inspirational; Hoyt Axton seems to find redemption in the role; the deaf girl daughter of Demi Moore, is certainly saved and redeemed; Demi as well; really, it seems that only Robt. Deniro's role, lacks the redemption and he seems to continue his scalawag ways;

Comedy, how grand on a scale, when, through miraculous "God works in strange ways" events, Demi Moore's daughter loses her status of deaf mute and the first thing she can say, is "Convicts" she recognizes Penn and Deniro as being the escaped convicts, but Deniro turns it around to that she said "Converts" and saves themselves there.

Deniro is worldly, Penn experiences a spiritual awakening; that ending could bring tears to the eyes of some, at least me; A+ plus plus is this movie for me.

3-0 out of 5 stars A movie doesn't have to be great to be enjoyable
I have always found this movie to be entertaining. This may not be a legendary movie, but it is a fun to watch. It's first problem is that "We're no Angles" is a the name of a great movie from 1955, so it easy to expect more from this movie then it could ever deleaver. De Niro and Penn talents make up for a simple script and turn it into a fun story. Demi Moore is dispointing as she provides little to the part of the prostute, yet Hoyt Axton does very well as the head of the monastery.

Both men play excaped cons forced to make they way to Canada, but trapped at the boarder. Un-educated and desperate, De Niro and Penn bluff their way into the local monatery. An annual ceremony provide our two cons a way across the boarder, but the sheriff is closing in.

"We're No Angles" is a good example of how great actors can save a movie. De Niro and Penn both do that very well. If you enjoy light comedy, De Niro or Penn; this movie is well worth your time. It is nice to just enjoy a movie for the talents of its stars with out car chases, blood bathes. and all special effects.

1-0 out of 5 stars I Never Saw The Original
I don't know anything, but I know what I like. This was Hoyt Axton's last performance on film, and for that alone, it ought to be worth a look. Demi Moore puts in a reasonably amusing performance as a single mom with a mute daughter, who will do anything to make ends meet, and the utter implausibility of the whole film makes me want to watch it over and over again for some reason. I like the grittiness of this period piece, and to tell you the truth, I laughed out loud several times (although probably at all the wrong times and for all the wrong reasons) I enjoyed this film for what it was; a decent piece of work with a lot of good character actors, an otherworldly quality that intrigued me, and some familier faces that I will never see together again, on this side of the veil. Hope this helps. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Typical Guy Things
This was a pretty good chick flick that took the usual formula and rolled through it nicely. There were lots of laughs, especially on the part of Jason Lee, and lots of awkward situations that will make you laugh and feel sorry for those caught in them. Guys, you get to see Julia Stiles in a Tikki dress and Selma Blair looking every bit of gorgeous, so don't drag your feet when asked to see this one. Ladies, it's funny and guy-bashing (lighthearted of course), so you'll love it too. Good movie, good plot. Somewhat intelligent (well, I've seen much worse), but a feel-good ending.

2-0 out of 5 stars typical young romantic comedy
There's nothing in this movie that hasn't been done a million times before. Very predictable and too much attempted humor that falls flat. A few funny parts here and there if this is the first romantic comedy you've ever seen in your life. I gave this movie 2 stars because of the very talented lead actors, Jason Lee and Julia Stiles. Normally they choose their movies a little better. Selma Blair seems to fit here role perfect. She's a good actress, but all her charactors are basically the same. If it weren't for these actors, this movie would only get 1 star.
Jason Lee plays a guy who got drunk at his bachelor party and wakes up with one of the dancers. (Julia Stiles) She happens to be the cousin of the bride (Selma Blair). That's basically all you need to know to figure out how the entire movie plays out.
There are tons of better romantic comedies out there. Invest elsewhere.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could Have Been Better!
"A Guy Thing" is more of a formula than a story. It increases more on the rules of romantic comedy, and it decreases on originality. It stars Jason Lee, Julia Stiles, and Selma Blair. None of the actors I had a problem with, but the storyline could have had alot of work done to it. The movie could have been much better if it ignored the standard features of a romantic comedy. If this movie dared to be original, it would have been so much better. The movie did have some funny moments, and good characters, but I have seen this kind of movie before, and I want to see it done better. The movie could be described by the movie's tagline. "Boy Meets Girl, Boy Meets Girl's Cousin." It's pretty obvious what the movie is about, and how the movie is going to end.

The movie is about Paul. Paul is an ad salesmen who is getting ready to be married in one week to Karen. He works for her father, Ken, and he is ready for his bachlor party which is being thrown by his brother Pete, and his friend Jim. The entertainment for the party are hula girls, and among them is Becky. Paul gives his groom hat to Jim, and the next mourning he finds himself in bed with Becky, because she doesn't know that he is the groom to be. Paul doesn't remember what happened between the two, rushes Becky out, and then finds Karen coming in seconds later. This begins a seris of lies that start by Jim telling him never to tell Karen what happened between him and Becky. The problem really starts at a dinner party with Paul's parents, Karen's parents, her Aunt Budge, and Karen's cousin who happens to be Becky. Paul has to have Becky assure him that she will never tell anybody anything about what may or may not have happened between them, but the situations gets complicated when Becky's crazy cop ex-boyfriend and gets jealous of him. As Paul's wedding day comes closer and closer, he tries to cover up everything that he lied about, so that this whole thing could end.

"A Guy Thing" is a pretty good movie, but has the ability to make it be better. It follows the three rules for a romantic comedy.

1)The main characters best friend needs to be the dumbest person in the cast.
2)There always has to be one character that knows everything that is going on.
3)The main character's othr half is always clueless until the end.

Those three things are in every romantic comedy including "A Guy Thing." It is alright for movies to be different. I enjoyed the movie and it was a great way to spead an hour and a half. It was funny, smart, it was well acted, and it had some original material, but other than that it was the same old thing. "A Guy Thing" was in the theatre, and I saw it there, but this movie is better to watch on DVD.

ENJOY!

Rated PG-13 for language, crude humor, some sexual content and drug references.

4-0 out of 5 stars Could not stop from laughing out loud
Paul Colman (Jason Lee) is reluctantly having a bachelor party. He innocently buys a bear for an inept hula girl (Julia Stiles) that was part of the entertainment. He wakes up to find her in his bead and is fiancé on the way. From there it is one situation after another and snowballs. Will he ever straiten it out with his fiancé? And what is to become of the hula girl?

Yes the first thing you will notice is that this is formula. The whole reason we pick a genera is because we like to see variations on a formula; who can do it better and what different twist can be placed in the story and keep it on track. If this had been played with some actor that had to rely on past films reputations like Adam Sandler the film would not work.

My favorite scene was the one where Paul (with a strait face) tells Karen that the panties (obviously used) she is holding came from a bin at a discount store. She dials up the store for verification.

One added plus to the movie is Larry Miller as Minister Ferris who knew or suspected everything and could not tell. See him again when he can really branch out in "Radioland Murders" (1994) and "Undercover Blues" (1993).

3-0 out of 5 stars An OK rom-com
I'm a fan of Julia Stiles, so getting this DVD at the bargain price of £8.99, when every other website was selling it for £11.99, £13.99 and £19.99 was, well, a bargain! But all the laughs fall rather flat I'm afraid. You're predicting what's going to happen to poor old Paul before it even happens!

Jason Lee and Julia Stiles both played their parts well, although it seemed like they were struggling to hold the film up by themselves. Selma Blair was just wrong for her part. Courtney Cox Arquette could have done it much better, as basically, all Selma was doing was playing Monica from Friends. Controlling, annoyingly tidy, very organised, all those kind of things. You know what I mean if you're a fan of Friends. Most of her scenes seemed awkward and dumb, and don't show off any of Selma that we know and love. She's grown up, and is unrecognisable as the gawky girl she was in Cruel Intentions, but she still carries some of that gawkiness around with her in her acting.

The extras and the fact that Paul starts to "forsee" what COULD happen if he tells the truth are the good things about this movie. The forseeing happens intermittantly, not so much that it starts to bug you, but appears without warning, and you think it's happening - but it's not. The extras are hilarious. Especially the interviews with the cast. It has to be seen to be believed, as they start making up how stories about each other (the Jason Lee playing the "diva" and attacking an intern is so funny)

Otherwise, this movie is just a less successful Forces of Nature. Did anyone notice the similarities? I'm sure there's other films like this one, but I can't think of them. I've seen them though. ...

Good movie, but not in widescreen format as advertised.

1-0 out of 5 stars ZERO STARZ!
This movie blew it. We thought the could make up in the next film, but nnnnnnooooooo! I don't want to tell you the plot because it hurts me. This film is not for kids. Killing whales, bar fights, and pranks is why 9/11 happened! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Forgettable.
What do you get when you have John Woo direct a movie in which bloodshed is not allowed, the actors are all terrible Canadian nobodies, and the general feel is that of a TV-show pilot?

That's right, you get Blackjack.

Well, you also get this weak little remake of his 1989 Hong Kong film, but without Chow Yun-Fat and Jacky Cheung.

5-0 out of 5 stars When will they release the whole series on DVD?
They SO need to release the whole TV series on DVD. Hurry up John Woo some of us were disappointed that the series got cancelled!

1-0 out of 5 stars Warring: this film [is bad]
Warring this is not a good film. The screenplay is bad, the acting is bad, and about every thing about this film is bad. John Woo is a good director; this is not a good film. Woo's Hollywood success with BROKEN ARROW and FACE/OFF emboldened FOX TV to remake Woo's Hong Kong action comedy hit ONCE A THIEF (1992) for TV. Wath we got was nothing more then a movie that rips off Woo's (good) Hong Kong films (a little bit of HARD BOILED can be seen in the film) with a no name TV movie stars (like Nicholas Lea) who wood bee better off acting in plays or something like that. This film was also to be a pilot for a TV program it looks like they got the ratings in this film [is bad] (you may know that by now, but I hate this film). The story (if there is one) is set in Hong Kong and then in Vancouver but that is all I wath to put to words, the rest is too dumb (or has been used before in the 92 film). Look for the 1992 film. The video is a "Never before Seen R-rated Director's cut", but there is no blood or nothing in it. A much better Woo U.S.A. made film is HARD TARGET.

1997. TV Film. ??? MINS.

Rated R For Violence.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun start to an even better series
While I won't call this movie high art, it was a lot of fun to watch. And ignore the...comment. While the show has not yet aired in the States (but will be on many ABC stations next fall), it was turned into a series that was much better, including episodes that satirized everything from Waiting for Godot and the Maltese Falcon to James Bond and X-Files.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Ok let me say that I saw this movie on TV a few years ago and I was intrigued when it was called "John Woo's Once a Thief" because the original (Chinese version, 1990)with Leslie Cheung and Chow Yun Fat is one of my favorite movies. This movie had none of the slapstick laughs and rapport that Cheung, Chow, and Chung had in the original. The acting quality was also very poor. So for all of you seeing this washed out and weak version, do yourselves a favor and see the Chinese version. ... Read more

Silvers
