Set to the backdrop of Carribean reggae beats, "Water" is the mad tale of the decline of British colonialism in the West Indies, independence and freedom fighters, multinationals and environmentalists. Some unforgettable scenes and some brilliant lines, Billy Connolly and Michael Caine and the star-studded cast are in unique form. Reggae legend Eddy Grant provides the soundtrack, and there are some super-impressive musicians featured on screen ("it's Whosit and Whatsit"!!). There is no film in the world quite like "Water"!!
Caine is splendid as the 'gone native' consul and Billy Connolly excels in an early film role as a half-English half-Cascaran islander, whose sympathies are definitely with the Cascarans. There are also some wonderful musical numbers, featuring George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Jon Lord, Eric Clapton, and Connolly himself, proving himself to be a superb singer as well as a fine actor. Leonard Rossiter gives one of his last (fine) performances, Having just thrown away my betamax copy of this, I am rushing to get a replacement now!

Bill Cosby and Sidney Potier had great chemistry together in all three of their films. Uptown Saturday Night was more critically acclaimed, but this film is just more fun. The Characters names are still unforgetable: 40th Street Black, Bootney Farnsworth, Kansas City Mack, Jody Tibbs and of course Bill as Mongo Slade. Great Stuff. The Soundtrack with the Staple Singers still makes you move even though the songs are about 30 years old; the mark of hitting the bullseye musically. One thing that must be mentioned is the mostly black cast for a film of this kind was not the norm back when this film was made and the actors in the film all were either stars in their own right, or would be stars later. Best scene in the movie without giving too much away for those who have not watched it: the final boxing scene and the aftermath; just plain funny. Anyway, go out and get this DVD. You will be sure to enjoy it. The whole family can watch it also as I can't recall hearing any foul language. Highly recommended

Now with the crash and sorrowful deaths of 113 souls in the Paris crash of the Concorde, I just bet the Hollywood Disaster Machine jumps back on board, call Mr. Lang and regurgitates this series, possibly with Bruce Willis or Keanu Reeves, in place of Kennedy. And can anyone explain why this is the only one not avalible on DVD??????
One problem with this is the "Love Boat" casting for the plane. There's Jimmie Walker! He gets high in the bathroom! There's Charo, on screen for 1 minute! There's Emanuelle from those soft-core porno films! There's Martha Raye! There's Cicely Tyson! Her son needs a heart transplant, and she's taking the Concorde, along with the heart, to deliver it to him. Shades of Airport 1975 much (with the kidney transplant)? There's an old lady who has to go to the bathroom when she gets nervous! Isn't that funny? There's Patroni (George Kennedy) who has appeared in every Airport film. He's the pilot of this one, along with Alain Delon. "You pilots are such men!" snips the stewardess. "Honey, that's why they call it the cockpit!" Patroni zings. Score one for the male chauvinists! There's also a missile or something that's trying to shoot down the Concorde, but the Concorde evades it and lands in Paris but the movie STILL ISN'T OVER. There's another hour and another flight and another dangerous crash landing to get to. The movie doesn't know what it wants to be - glossy international drama? Comedy? Disaster film? It turns into an unintentional comedy, especially with the incredibly fake scenes of a toy model of an airplane flying against a blue screened in shot of a sky. High camp comedy? Yes! Exciting film? No. I suggest watching this with a bunch of friends and proving your own running commentary over it trashing the film.

I'll give you a little insight on what you're getting into. A little monkey befriends a little kid. Only the monkey, no doubt portrayed by a midget in a costume, talks. That's right, he talks. The end of the film is simply pee-your-pants hilarious when the monkey flies off a dock and jumps onto the boys boat, all the while yelling the kids name and screaming: "Biiiiiiilly!" A downright pee-on-yourself film fest. Enjoy.

As for the acting... well, I almost thought the movie was trying to teach you speak proper English (maybe that was the producers' original intention to ensure its marketability in Japan?). Even the slangs and bad languages used were pronounced ever so clearly, word for word... And why is Mark Hamil shown on the cover of the video with the Guyver costume, anyway? He's not the Guyver in the movie if I remember correctly... Having said all this, DON'T miss out "Guyver 2: The Dark Hero". That's how a movie should, in my opinion, really be.
The first problem is the script. The script went after the parent's wallets and attempted to appeal to kids, yet had probably a bit much graphic violence for parent's tastes. The music was also an issue. Honestly it sounds like a really bored guy on a Casio. The lightness of the music took away from many scenes. Jimmy Walker as a Zoanoid? Why the hell did he have to rap? Seemed like he had fun, though. Some of the Zoanoids looked a bit cheesy too. The lizard bird chick for example resembled a furby. Mark Hamill must not have known how cheesy the film was going to turn out cause he actually put a lot into it. As much as he could, anyway. Of course it was mostly based around effects and it didn't disappoint there. The Guyver suit looked great. Though the costumes looked like costumes they were better than many I've seen. Plus there was a robot of some sort of dragon reindeer. The Gore helped though it made the film seem bipolar. Had they altered the script to be more adult and match the darkness displayed in the directing and tweaked the music so it wasn't so slap-sticky this movie would be perfect. However due to it being simply fun to watch it deserves a 4/5.
