4-0 out of 5 stars Complete Season DVD Sets are Needed!
I was only 2 years old when the Carol Burnett Show aired on television and the show was on TV for 11 years so I grew up watching this classic variery skit show in the 70's with my family and I really loved watching it! I saw this reunion show on TV and it was good and it was interesting to hear the casts views about the show and the skits but what I really want is to see The Carol Burnett Show on DVD in complete season sets!

5-0 out of 5 stars Carol Burnett Reunion
I really enjoy this tape I felt like I was on stage with the reunion itself. Does anyone know if the show where Carol Burnett and Tim Conway laughed the whole time and never did the skit. Everyone time they looked at one another the started to laugh. It was in Black and White. If so please email me @ jvp1968@aol.com. All her old shows were great.

3-0 out of 5 stars more skit, less (...)
The Carol Burnett show is a scream. Any fan knows that. This tape, and I should have known better from the title, had way too much reuniting. I felt like a guest at a party where I was the only one who didn't know anyone else. All of the old cast sat around on the stage and talked about the skits that I wanted to see and then they would show a little segment. I wanted to see all of the skit and skip the stage show. The finale went on and on. It seemed like it went on for 2 hours. I wanted it to end so bad I was pulling my hair out. The skits featured were of the best- you will laugh-guaranteed. Just have remote in hand to fast forward through the commentary.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Carol Burnett Show
As a little girl living in South Africa, Wednesday nights was very special. That's when The Carol Burnett Show came on. I thorougly enjoyed her shows. Today, 32 years on, I still enjoy her timeless pieces especially the Dentist sketch. I would like very much to obtain all her videos so that I can once again enjoy them again.

Yes the show your mother and you loved to watch now makes a great gift for your grandmother, mother, or yourself. She was just on the Today Show on NBC and at their website they listed an 800 number to get her tapes in case it is sold out here. 3-0 out of 5 stars Nice characters, OK story
Honestly, the only reason I rented this movie was to see Vanna White, and maybe in the buff. I wasn't disappointed. The love scenes are tender and brief, but you do get a glimpse of Vanna's great assets. She is a beautiful woman. She's not a bad actress either. She should have done more pictures.
I can't tell if this is pre-Wheel of Fortune, but the movie certainly looks and sounds dated, early '80s. It reminded me of Bobby Jo and the Outlaw, the only flick I know that Lynda Carter fully revealed the bosom that was jiggling most wonderfully in Wonder Woman.
That aside, it is a nice story. No Oscar winner, but you care about what happens to the characters. The guy who plays the stunt pilot doubles up as singer on some of the songs on the soundtrack.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vanna and Gene will set fire to your screen
I understand that when most people think of Gypsy Angels their first thoughts are of gameshow goddess Vanna White. The discerning movie lover, however, will understand that it is the astonishing performance of Gene Bicknell that makes this movie one for the ages. Bicknell plays attorney-turned-stunt pilot Jeff Turner in a performance that was unforgivably ignored by reviewers all around the world. In the story, Bicknell brings out the humanity of Turner who tells the establishment to go to hell as he decides to follow his dreams of being a stunt pilot. Along his travels he meets Mickey, Vanna in her first English speaking role, a down and out stripper on the way to nowhere. Against all odds they fall in love. Yes, its a story as old as love itself, but Bicknell and White manage to bring a quiet dignity to each of their roles. Like the great Apocalype Now, Gypsy Angels manages to string one great scene after another. For example, the surreal fight scene between Jeff and a seedy night club owner as Jeff fights for Mickey honor. This scene, almost Kubrikian in nature, draws a stark contrast to the tender love scenes between Mickey and Jeff. Plot twists a plenty, this story will take you to places in your own heart that you've only dreamt about. Are you a fan of tearjerker love stories, or maybe you just really like Wheel of Fortune, either way this movie has earned its right to be on your must see list.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eagerly waiting
As soon as Amazon gets this video in, I'm ordering. I grew up watching wonder woman, and am deeply offended that today's little girls do not have that opportunity. This should be required syndication on a national level!

Yes, Lynda Carter was a beauty queen, but she was not airheaded or anorexic. Heck, she was an amazon who could and did save the day while getting the hot guy. Thankfully Wonder Woman's version of "girl power" would be way more Xena/Buffy than Spice Girls. Wonder Woman can hold her own in any sittuation.

Excluding the horrid Cathy Lee Crosby movie, the series was very well done for the time and still holds up. Wonder Woman is one of the greatest shows of all times, and needs to be offered as soon as possible.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspired casting
Let's face it, one look at Lynda Carter in the Wonder Woman suit is worth at least three stars. Tall, statuesque, and athletic looking --- especially for the 1970's --- putting her in this role was truly inspired casting.

The 1940's portion of the series was markedly better than the "modern" ones, and wears a bit better. Fighting Nazi supervillains was a better use of the character than the standard crime clichés of the later series. The Seventies cars and architecture date the later series more than these.

Except for the business about the belt being her weakness, as opposed to being handcuffed by a man, the TV show was markedly consistent with the comic book series. They didn't do enough with such things as the invisible plane, but it appears in these. They also didn't seem to find that much time onscreen for Wonder Woman as opposed to Diana Prince.

Still, this was probably the best adaptation of one of the classic superheroes, at least until the first -Superman- movie appeared a few years later. It deserves credit for that much.

5-0 out of 5 stars WONDER WOMAN ON DVD?
It's really astonishing how an AMERICAN HERO has been ignored by the american movie makers. In England they have already issued Wonder Woman on DVD (I believe 3 episodes, so far).
I wish all of the episodes from the entire series would be available on DVD as soon as possible.
And perhaps a movie would be nice, possibly starring Linda Carter as Wonder Woman (she's still very pretty and young-looking); if not, she could, at least, succeed to her queen-mother's throne in the movie.
WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WONDER WOMAN ON DVD, just like we've had Spider Man, Charlie's Angels, The Hulk come-backs.

5-0 out of 5 stars WW on DVD
Some people have complained that Wonder Woman isn't available on DVD -- well, it is in the UK. One volume (with 3 episodes) is available already, and a 2nd one is due to be released August 2003. The one that's out now features the pilot for the CBS series (which takes place in 1977) as opposed to the original pilot, featuring Wonder Woman in WW2. The 2nd episode is Anschluss '77, where an evil ex-Nazi scientist (are't all scientists evil??) brings back Adolf Hitler to life. The 3rd episode is The Man Who Moved The World, about an ex-Japanese prisoner of war who has developed telekinetic powers, and tries to kill Wonder Woman (will he? won't he?!) Re-live the fabulousness of the 70s, the clothes, the chest hair, and the wonderful, beautiful Lynda Carter. It's all slightly camp, but all the better for it. Buy it, and enjoy it (although the European PAL tv system may not work on American TVs)

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite Super Hero
I think it is about time they put Wonder Woman on DVD. I grew up watching the show and miss it. I see repeats on the Scfi channel but I want the whole series. Come on folks, bring it to DVD. It is way over due. I want my WW. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Now, That's Entertainment!
"A star-studded revue of the world's top female impersonators!"
Circa the 1980's that is! This is so much fun and very interesting to watch. Dream Boys Revue was a television special first aired on the Showtime cable network in the early 80's. The production values are rather cheesy but the pageant itself is presented in a very professional manner with all the fun & camp you might expect but never at the expense of the participants.
It's actually good clean fun (no adult language or nudity) sutable for viewing by the entire family!
From the coverbox:
Dream Boys Revue
"From the days of Shakespeare to the present, from Romeo and Juliet to Tootsie and La Cage Aux Folles, female impersonators have been a source of both great mystery and quality entertainment in the world of the performing arts.
Here at last is an inside look at just what it takes to turn out carbon copies of Marilyn Monroe, Diana Ross, Bette Davis, Tina Turner and many others as thirty of America's top female impersonators compete in formal attire, talent, and sportswear for the coveted title of Female Impersonator Of The Year.
Laura Shaw, the real Miss Texas U.S.A. heads the judge's panel and performs double duty when she crowns the pageant winner.
So get out your tuxedos and evening gowns and join hosts
LYLE WAGGONER and RUTH BUZZI for the year's most colorful and glamorous extravaganza."

3-0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking science fiction
This double feature DVD includes one of the best science fiction films, an adaptation of H.G. Wells' story "The Shape of Things to Come." This melodramatic tale, released in 1936, foresees a second World War beginning in 1940 and continuing into the 1970s, devastating the Earth. Eventually, mankind rebuilds, constructing a new and better civilization, culminating in the beginning of space travel in 2036. The film's striking production design, first rate photography, literate, intelligent script, and fine performances (especially by Raymond Massey) make this an essential film for science fiction fans.

Unfortunately this DVD is a low-budget, no-frills disc, made from a smudgy print. The audio has not been cleaned up; it's scratchy and dialogue is not always intelligible. Hopefully a remastered version will be released someday, with perhaps a few extras.

The less said about the second film, "Journey to the Center of Time", the better; it's worthwhile only as an example of how not to make a movie.

This DVD is worth buying for "Things To Come"; at least until a remastered version is available.

1-0 out of 5 stars What are they thinking?
This is a review of the combined product and the rating has no relationship to the individual movies. Some one is getting over zealous they just tied a Sci-Fi Classic "Things to Come" to a lackluster dud "Journey to the Center of Time". Just incase some one has not pointed out the differences. I figure there was room left over on the DVD and instead of adding extras they would fill the space with no cost fluff. You will want to look at the reviews for the individual movies before buying this hybrid or low-breed.

2-0 out of 5 stars This must have been the Canadian prototype for "Time Tunnel"
To say this was low budget would be too kind. The stereotype acting is not stereotype enough. The stereotype actors are not stereotype enough. Let's face it; this whole stereotype project is not stereotype enough. If the budget was just a tad lower maybe this would never have been made.
Basic premise is an attempt to look into the future and into the past actually forces the lab to go into the future into the past. The lab is stuffed with good guy, bad guy, and screaming girl. The good guy does good things. The bad guy does bad things. The girl screams a lot. While back at the ranch, they talk of a lot about how they've lost the lab.
This DVD is perfect for testing the fast forward option.

1-0 out of 5 stars Gave 1 star because I can't give a zero.
Poor quality film. Poor DVD transfer. No Extras. Waste of time. At least I didn't throw a lot of money away on it. Terrible film.

4-0 out of 5 stars Things To Come: Good film, bad copy
“Things To Come” is one of those intelligent sci-fi films that you dream about. It is an adaptation of H. G. Wells book of the same name. Filmed in 1936, it traces the history of a (fictitious) world war that begins in 1940, and is continually fought until the 1970’s. The film show life before the war, life during the apocalypse, and finally traces world society into 2036, with a planned space mission, and a group of futuristic luddites who are opposed to the plan.

The sets and cinematography is pure eye-candy, and remind me of a rough Fritz Lang, and life during the apocalyptic war has become chilling, considering the possibilities that may happen in this war on terrorism.

It is an anti-war film. However, Wells naively thinks that scientific endeavor can save humanity. Contrast this with the idiotic statements that we got when the genome was cracked:

“Perhaps most surprising, two analyses released this month suggest that the entire human genome may contain fewer than 40,000 genes - about half the number that scientists have presumed (no more than a worm and a fly combined, Collins quips).”

Would you want scientist Collins, who can’t see the difference between a fly, a worm, and a human, to operate on you? And we are to build humanity on this foundation? Science had given us many trinkets, but she has failed to give us any meaning—due to the Naturalistic Fallacy. How do you get from “E=mc2” to “Love your neighbor?” The scientific endeavor, therefore, would just be a type of busy-work.

The copy is very rough and blurry at times, and the dialogue fades in an out, and the DVD has no frills that we love and use. But this rough copy is better than no copy at all! This is a perfect classic, and a must for an sci-fi junkie.

“Journey to the Center of Time” is bad. But I think it should be mandatory viewing for people who think that Star Trek: The Original Series was bad, since “Center of Time” makes Kirk look like Shakespeare! ... Read more

Plot twists a plenty, this story will take you to places in your own heart that you've only dreamt about. Are you a fan of tearjerker love stories, or maybe you just really like Wheel of Fortune, either way this movie has earned its right to be on your must see list.

2-0 out of 5 stars This must have been the Canadian prototype of "Time Tunnel."

This DVD is perfect for testing the fast forward option. ... Read more

I want my WW. ... Read more
