5-0 out of 5 stars Eagerly waiting
As soon as Amazon gets this video in, I'm ordering. I grew up watching wonder woman, and am deeply offended that today's little girls do not have that opportunity. This should be required syndication on a national level!

Yes, Lynda Carter was a beauty queen, but she was not airheaded or anorexic. Heck, she was an amazon who could and did save the day while getting the hot guy. Thankfully Wonder Woman's version of "girl power" would be way more Xena/Buffy than Spice Girls. Wonder Woman can hold her own in any sittuation.

Excluding the horrid Cathy Lee Crosby movie, the series was very well done for the time and still holds up. Wonder Woman is one of the greatest shows of all times, and needs to be offered as soon as possible.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspired casting
Let's face it, one look at Lynda Carter in the Wonder Woman suit is worth at least three stars. Tall, statuesque, and athletic looking --- especially for the 1970's --- putting her in this role was truly inspired casting.

The 1940's portion of the series was markedly better than the "modern" ones, and wears a bit better. Fighting Nazi supervillains was a better use of the character than the standard crime clichés of the later series. The Seventies cars and architecture date the later series more than these.

Except for the business about the belt being her weakness, as opposed to being handcuffed by a man, the TV show was markedly consistent with the comic book series. They didn't do enough with such things as the invisible plane, but it appears in these. They also didn't seem to find that much time onscreen for Wonder Woman as opposed to Diana Prince.

Still, this was probably the best adaptation of one of the classic superheroes, at least until the first -Superman- movie appeared a few years later. It deserves credit for that much.

5-0 out of 5 stars WONDER WOMAN ON DVD?
It's really astonishing how an AMERICAN HERO has been ignored by the american movie makers. In England they have already issued Wonder Woman on DVD (I believe 3 episodes, so far).
I wish all of the episodes from the entire series would be available on DVD as soon as possible.
And perhaps a movie would be nice, possibly starring Linda Carter as Wonder Woman (she's still very pretty and young-looking); if not, she could, at least, succeed to her queen-mother's throne in the movie.
WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WONDER WOMAN ON DVD, just like we've had Spider Man, Charlie's Angels, The Hulk come-backs.

5-0 out of 5 stars WW on DVD
Some people have complained that Wonder Woman isn't available on DVD -- well, it is in the UK. One volume (with 3 episodes) is available already, and a 2nd one is due to be released August 2003. The one that's out now features the pilot for the CBS series (which takes place in 1977) as opposed to the original pilot, featuring Wonder Woman in WW2. The 2nd episode is Anschluss '77, where an evil ex-Nazi scientist (are't all scientists evil??) brings back Adolf Hitler to life. The 3rd episode is The Man Who Moved The World, about an ex-Japanese prisoner of war who has developed telekinetic powers, and tries to kill Wonder Woman (will he? won't he?!) Re-live the fabulousness of the 70s, the clothes, the chest hair, and the wonderful, beautiful Lynda Carter. It's all slightly camp, but all the better for it. Buy it, and enjoy it (although the European PAL tv system may not work on American TVs)

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite Super Hero
I think it is about time they put Wonder Woman on DVD. I grew up watching the show and miss it. I see repeats on the Scfi channel but I want the whole series. Come on folks, bring it to DVD. It is way over due. I want my WW. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Yow!
This film is supposed to be comedy, but Martin's character comes across as just plain creepy... I was hoping that a ten-ton safe would fall on the Larry Hubbard character, or that Godzilla would suddenly appear and turn him into a pile of smoking cinders with a jetlike column of fire. That way, he would be put out of his misery and it would be easier to sympathize with him.

As it were, the Hubbard character comes across like a sexless zombie in a double-knit suit. Watching this film was as frustrating as watching a three week schedule of Roadrunner cartoons 24/7. Even "Dumb and Dumber" had at least a few redeeming qualities.

As of this writing, you can get a used dvd copy of this on amazon for about $9.00. My suggestion would be to throw your money into the gutter instead, because it will be a lot more entertaining and a lot less waste of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Lonely Guy a great rare unseen comedy with Steve Martin
Steve Martin , the great comedian who has starred
in a dozen or so great comedies, stars as Larry Hubbard,
an aspiring writer, who after finding his girl in bed
with another guy becomes "The Lonely Guy".

Hubbard, then goes out on his own in New York City, and
find the right place for himself to live in , along
with trying to find the right girl for him. However,
comic mishaps prevent Larry from doing this, all the while
though, Larry from his experiences as a lonely guy in
New York, will use this for a best seller he is writing
revolving around lonely guys.

"The Lonely Guy" is both a laughfest, and a charming,
sentimental movie about love.

The laughs come in when we see Larry trying to find
an apartment in New York.

He first sees a high class apartment, but then narrates
that looks can be deceiving as, these kind
of apartment have a high crime rate. Then seconds
a guy gets shot and tells Larry: "Don't move
in bad neighboorhood". LOL

Then when Larry starts looking for an apartment, he
decides he wants one with a view of the river.
However, when he looks out of the window of one
of the apartments, he sees that windows is the river!!!
As he sees goldfish, and other fish, swim across
the window!!! LOL

When Larry finally gets settled he meets a man
named Warren Evans (Charles Grodin) a lonely
guy who is contemplating suicide. Larry prevents
Warren from doing this and the 2 become good
friends.

Seeing his skill in dealing with lonely guys, Larry
plans his book based on the subject. However, he
himself feels depressed while writing it, since
he doesn't have a woman.

Larry then goes on a mission (with both comical
and good results) to find the right woman.

He meets Iris (Judith Ivey) a great woman, but
with a troubled past. Will Larry , the lonely guy, find the right woman? See it to find out. There are great funny cameos by Dr. Joyce Brothers, and Merv Griffin, who take a great interest in the writer/ lonely guy.

Other comical scenes involved Larry trying to find
the right dog, to past those lonely nights.

The movie is hard to find, and out of print, but
it's worth searching for.
Overall it's a great comedy, Martin and Grodin,
give exceptional performances, again showing their
comedic talents.

5-0 out of 5 stars love this movie!
I laugh my ass off at the scene where grodin and martin hold a dinner party with cardboard cutouts! funny! This is a great film if you're a steve martin fan,and charles grodin`s deadpan delivery is funny too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Steve Martin at his finest.
This is right up there with The Jerk and dead men don't wear Plaid as one of Steve Martins best ever films. Steve along with Charles Grodin tell an exadurated and hillarious story of what it's like to be a "single guy" it's funny it's romantic... it's everything a movie should be!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Most box sets are like a box of chocolates (not here)!
There is usually one that is ether exceptional or the one that won't sell. Well you are in luck as none of these movies are the exceptional type. Steve Martin has done some outstanding work. None of which is in this set. There are moments that are worth watching. However the moments are not worth wading through the rest of these films. My guess is that you may appreciate this set if you like stand-alone comics. They are more like long skits than movies.
This set includes "The Jerk", " The Lonely Guy", and " Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" If you like " Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" you may like "What's Up, Tiger Lily? (1966) - Dubbed in English" ASIN: 6304785801 ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "Are you my daddy?"
That question is asked over and over again in this wacked out movie and thats why I love it.

It's the same question my boyfriend makes me ask him every time we do it. Kinky.

My other favorite line: "I call it my punk pounder"

Well any film that's got a punk pounder inside it is OK with me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why don't they make strange movies like this anymore?
I really used to love the old oddball films like "Harold and Maude" or Polanski's "The Tenant" or "How to Get Ahead in Advertising" etc etc etc. Now it seems most movies today are so mainstream. Snore.

Zap is one of the better oddball films I've seen in a long time. Somehow I missed seeing this little gem until my company included it as part of a "Strange Films Weekend."

There is one scene in this film that had everybody on the floor. I won't give it away except to say that it involves a nerd, his car, and a hitchhiker who has the worst case of diarhea.
ROFLMAO

Yeah they sure don't make movies like this anymore.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of great ideas but needs MORE SEX!
This old movie is been showing up at the college, getting passed around at all the parties. I finally got a look at it over at some girl's dorm

It's got some real funny stuff but I don't think it's as good as Rocky Horror show.

Only reason I thinks its getting popular with everybody is its story showing this nerd searching for his dad all over L.A. Everywhere he goes, people dump on him big time like the hitchiker who [has a bowel movement] inside his car and he's always depressed cause he can never find his dad. He kinda figures if he finds his dad thats gonna make everything OK.

That's just like it is today with young Americans like me, we is always looking for somebody who can make us happy. You know, like an honest president or supporting family or a girlfriend who don't cheat or a banker who [cares] about your money and on and on. We think if we find these people we gonna be happy. Who knows?

Its kind of bizare how this movie gets people laughing big time but also they get so heavy serious during some intense scenes.

For me I wanna see a lot more sex in a film, there should be more naked girls. Otherwise it's good there's nothing like it out there I've seen.

1-0 out of 5 stars Films like this garbage are destroying our society!
The scariest thing bout this film is how many good reviews it got on this forum. Makes me sick. Its no small wonder America is falling into a gutter of gross stupidty and moral decay.

If you like long winded intelectual discussions of bowel movements, if you love a film that babbles endlessly bout all the cruel "daddies" in the world, if you have a thing for films with an endless parade of fat people and fat jokes, if you enjoy a lead character who is a butt ugly nerd and NEVER changes his clothes through the entire film, well then this one is for you.

On the other hand if you want to see movies that praise mankind and raise the spirit, then run away from this gutter rot as fast as you can!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hysterical!
This zap film had me rolling on the floor.

I didn't want to view it at first, Troma films aren't my thing, but my sis insisted I should turn it on.

Starts off kinda slow then just builds an builds, its black dry humor at its finest.

Definitely not a typical Troma film because behind the farts, the T & A., and the weirdos, it's got an intellectual feel about it, there's a real mind behind this trip into the bizarre.

Make sure you see this with a bunch of friends, it adds to all the fun. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars absolutely outstanding
This movie, with the acting of Kathleen Quinlan, has got to be, by far, Kathleen's finest performance. Although the scream of Kathleen in "Nightmare in Blood" surpasses none. Kathleen Quinlan has always been a personal favorite of mine. When I saw her in "The Promise" she did me in. She is absolutely beautiful and her roles are varied and showcases her tremendous abilities. I adore her.

Sylvia Sydney should have received an oscar nomination. She protrayed Mrs. Corral the school teacher, coming back to the institution for a re-visit. She's been there before and the rest of the patients love her. When she was being checked in, four attendants had to carry her up the stairs, with Ms. Sidney yelling "cockroaches, Vermin!!!" When the attendants left after placing her in her cell, you see the bed flying out into the hallway (she threw it) yelling "YOU FORGOT TO TUCK ME IN"
That scene alone is worth the DVD.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Movie!
I Never Promised you A Rose Garden is a very good movie, based on a book which I think was based on a true story. This movie stars Kathleen Quinlan as a schizophrenic teenager commited to a mental hospital and the psychiatrist played by Bibi Andersson who is trying to help her. Quinlan and Andersson are great and so is the rest of the cast!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Film of The Book
Based on the cult book of the same name, this true story manages to capture and convey the atmosphere of the book, and the remarkable relationship bewteen Debbie, a young girl suffering from schizophrenia, living in a world peopled by gods of her own creation, and her psychotherapist, Dr. Fried - alias Frieda Fromm-Reichmann, the wife of Eric Fromm, the famous psychoanalyst.
This truly touching and remarkable tale emphasizes the kernel of human potential and light in Debbie, and the considerable insight and compassion in her therapist, whilst set in the most adverse conditions of a mental hospital.
The acting is highly convincing, the direction thoughtful, while the story and plot-structure complement each another, in masterfully portraying the essential elements of the classic book by Hannah Green.

1-0 out of 5 stars GOOD MOVIE - LOUSY DVD
Again a good movie has been issued on a lousy dvd. Not only is the picture quality less than many vhs tapes, but they falsely advertise a full-length commentary by Kathleen Quinlan, the star, which is non-existant. There is an interview with her, separate from the film. This is a movie which deserves better, and this is just the rotten, greedy kind of job which is going to ruin the dvd industry eventually. How the morons who take part in this sort of product can live with themselves is above and beyond me.

4-0 out of 5 stars When she tried killing herself, it was just the beginning
Director Anthony Page's treatment of the novel by Hannah Green, here adapted by Gavin Lambert and Lewis John Carlino, presents Kathleen Quinlan as a schizophrenic admitted to a female asylum, with only one heartless attendant (male) who is quickly removed. However the focus is more on Quinlan than the other inmates, and when Page presents the inevitable scenes of ward panedomium, the women's personalities have more range than the men in the Milos Forman film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. The number of women and this focus on Quinlan, actually precluded me from identifying Diane Varsi and Barbara Steele.
Quinlan's "sickness" is presented by her private world of a tribe enacted by Danny Elfman's Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo Temenos Theatre Group, who seem to be wardrobe-influenced by the American Indian. These demons say Quinlan is "poisonous" and fear her "betrayal", and the sessions with her psychiatrist Bibi Andersson aim towards Quinlan banishing them. However the title of the film is Andersson's qualifier, since if Quinlan chooses to join the real world, it still won't be easy. In spite of the way Quinlan's fantasy world hides her and her fear of betraying her Gods (Andersson is right when she calls them cruel, for they seem to have the power even though Quinlan has created them), no one comments on the remarkeable imagination it has taken to invent them, though I guess this feeds into the genius/madness thin line.
Clearly Quinlan's character is remarkable in herself - she's intelligent, funny, and of course lyrically sensitive. But the thing that Andersson tells Quinlan's parents seems truthful and also ties into the title idea - that she needs something to replace the sickness with. The cause for her condition isn't made clear - there is talk of abandonment by her mother after the death of a second child and some sexual phobia by her father - but Andersson is more intent on enabling Quinlan to feel emotion as a breakthrough.
