ACTION, ADVENTURE & HILARITY ALL IN ONE - A GREAT MOVIE!
I was fortunate enough to pick up a copy of this film, mainly because I was intrigued to see Shawn Weatherly in an acting role other than her best known part in NBC's first season of Baywatch. It was surprisingly very funny and although there was a hint of nudity coming from Ms Weatherly, this is still a great film that you could watch with your family. There are lots of whacky stunts, much craziness and a few cowboys, punch-ups, crocodiles and hostile savages thrown in for good measure. It all adds up to a fast paced entertaining piece of viewing that I for one would highly recommend! Dragonsoft
The scenario sounds oh so promising. It soon becomes apparent, however, that the main sequences are pathetically unrealistic and are interspersed only with pure drivel; not even vaguely interesting or amusing drivel!

Two thumbs up to Claudia Udy!
I loved her cabaret routine as Cleopatra!

Patrick Warburon is hot
This movie is worth watching just to see a shirtless, bare-legged Patrick Warburton straining in irons. He's one hot guy. All hair and muscle.

Henriksen, Forsythe get savage

Unpleasant, tasteless and highly mediocre horror film
What a disapointment and waste! If one were to have told me that Anthony Perkins - star of "Psyscho" "Fear Strikes Out" "The Lonely Man" and "On the Beach" - was doing a "Jeykl and Hyde" film set in modern times with drugs, I would say that it would be a great film. What comes out is a lurid and tasteless adventure, which only has a few occasional thrills.

The thrills come far and between. In his role, Perkins does the film some justice. Occasionally, he manages to ham it up so well that the average viewer who longs for the Bela Lugosi factor to come back into films says 'yes!' Yet, overall, Perkins is washed away in the filfth of the film. The film is too damned gross! We have Perkins slicing and dicing poor British prostitutes with lousy accents, having sexual relations with prostitutes in front of obviously gratified homosexual prostitutes and then living up the drug life. This is sick, unpleasant and tasteless.

This film could have been great. Instead, it is just plain sick and often plain dumb. The film ends on a rather silly note, I believe. This is a bad one.

Very Cool
I do think that the other reviewers of this movie are prudes. This is my favorite Anthony Perkins film, it is also his bisexual 'coming out' film. Its treatment of the medical uses of cocaine is historically accurate. Its blending of Jack the Ripper and Jekyl & Hyde is well done. Perhaps it is the irreverence and nontraditional philisophical digressions that trouble the other reviewers so. Overall an excellent film, unless you're a suburbanite with spouse, 2.3 kids, and a dog and you can't handle a look into the dark depths of the human soul.

Anthony Perkins is awesome!
Of course, any role played by the late, great Anthony Perkins is going to be done to the utmost perfection. There is also an absolutely superb supporting cast in this film as well. Unfortunately, the screenplay itself is not worthy of such talent. The only thing good about this film is the actors themselves. Too bad they couldn't have been casted for a better film. Watch this movie only for its artistic value and for the superb performances. Don't, however, expect a great film....you'll be disappointed.

Lavish take on the Jekyll & Hyde / Jack The Ripper tales
If you're a fan of the dark and twisted (with an artsy edge), then Edge Of Sanity will enthrall you. Others should know by the film's packaging summary that this is going to be a perverse ride and BEWARE. Dogging this film is not fair considering other realms into sexual depravity such as From Hell and Eyes Wide Shut are just grandiose eye candy.

While experimenting with anesthetics, Dr. Jekyll accidentally inhales fumes from an altered drug. This unleashes not only ability to act out his inhibitions, it unleashes repressed sexual feelings he had experienced as humiliation during his childhood. He then goes on a killing spree as Jack The Ripper, and becomes obsessed with a prostitute named Susannah that closely resembles the woman from his past.

Yes, Edge Of Sanity is sinister, twisted, perverse, and trashy. It's also lavish, elegant, and beautifully done. The cinematography is excellent (MGM's DVD is a vast improvement over the old VHS from the late 1980s), the costumes are a wow, and the music score is superb as well as appropriate to the scenes it enhances. A lot of imagination went into this production, and it's unfair to say it's an inappropriate film considering the many other "critically acclaimed" attempts at the dark side of sexuality and drug addiction.

Anthony Perkins chews the scenery well, playing his part of Jack Hyde to the hilt. It would be hard to think of any other actor that could have carried this part so well. Those who adored him in Psycho, Pretty Poison, and Crimes Of Passion will find a lot to love about his role in Edge Of Sanity.

I first viewed this film in the late 1980s on an unrated VHS edition, and MGM's DVD is most likely the closest to that version there is. I found no difference that I could notice between that original unrated version and this one, taking into consideration that MGM has been reissuing many obscure films like this one in their uncut forms (such as The Burning) though they have a rating listed. For film collectors of the dark and sinister, this is a nice addition and you'll be pleased with the great transfer. The only extras are a trailer and subtitles, but that's fine considering the low price for this DVD. I'm just thrilled that MGM has rescued Edge Of Sanity from obscurity for a whole new audience to discover and relish as well as make established fans like myself very, very happy.

Call it trash if you want to, but it's quality, wicked, ELEGANT trash and a fascinating tale to savor.

Anthony Perkins Wierds It Up Again
Anthony Perkins plays an obviously repressed homosexual Dr. Jeckyl who when he becomes Mr. Hyde follows men as well as women around. Lots of killing. Lots of arty shots. It is ultimately a fun romp for the horror fan. Perkins is truly over the top in one of his final performances. It ain't great, but it ain't crap either way you look at it. ... Read more

Some people written on this film horrible words, that it was violent, and low rated.
