5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Stephen King Movie stays true to the Novel
This movie is a great adaptation of stephen kings Rose Red. It's sort of like the haunting but with an physic twist. a dormat house haunted house with a really shady past is under investagation by a profesesor and her volunteer physics. But whatthey don't know is with their physic enegry they have waken up the spirit sin the house. one by one they disappear till the real horror is the house is changing. It's alive.
This movie is a superb adaptation I loved how they told the history of the house and the people before they went into the house. this is a wonderful movie more errie than scary but still this is must see for any stephen king fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars worth watching again and again.
Rose Red is one of those movies that stays with you long after it's over. Don't let the length of the movie (almost 6 hrs.) turn you off to watching it. It's well worth the time to sit down and watch this brilliant masterpiece. The cast was wonderfully chosen. From Nancy Travis who plays Dr.Joyce Reardon. The woman who becomes fasinated with a haunted mansion called Rose Red to the point of risking other peoples lives to prove to her boss and collegues that Rose Red truly is haunted. To Annie Wheaton played by Kimberly J. Brown who has the power to waken Rose Red from a deep sleep by using her mind to do. If your a Stephen King fan than you won't want to miss this, and for the rest of you who aren't, well give the movie a try anyway. You won't be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great supernatural movie
Rose Red is a complex film but if you pay attention, it can be followed easily.
The setting is an awesome old house. But there are ghosts that still live there. As the plot unravels, the characters special supernatural abilities bring out the answers to what the group is looking for. Scary scenes, bizzare happenings as the house "lives." One of King's best films.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you know Stephen King you know this is one of his best
Well, I read my first Stephen King novel when I was 12 years old. I read Salem's Lot and slept with the light on for weeks. Since then I have read everything he wrote as Stephen and as Richard. I watch all of the tidbits, articles, commentaries etc on him. His imagination is amazing. I only became disappointed when filmmakers began botching his books with very bad movie adaptions. There are very few Stephen King novels which have been able to transcend from his wonderful imagination in print to that same imagination re-enacted through the actor/ess. Misery,Green Mile, Needful Things and Rose Red were a select few that made it. Carrie, Firestarter, The Shining(despite a stellar performance from Jack Nicholson), Salem's Lot, The Stand, Dead Zone(again despite a stellar performance from Christopher Walken)and Storm of the Century did not. If you thought the movie was bad, look to your actors and directors, not to Stephen King. There is no doubt that the book was good. It is very hard to capture an imagination that spectacular on film, but occasionally it can be done. It is now many many years later from the year I read Salem's Lot and I can still hear in my mind the line I read from that book about the high, sweet, evil sucking sounds of a child - Danny Glick. Try to capture that on film!

3-0 out of 5 stars an ok TV movie brought to life
it was boring for some of the time but then theres some good scenes and some jolts. basically a true story and the place is real and I want to visit it. Julian Sands dies in this one, why, he was the cool person and so was Matt Keeslar, but why Sands DAMN IT. Stephen King has a cameo, just like some of his other books brought to life in a movie. basically soe corny effects and cheap dialouge. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Forbidden Choices (aka The Beans of Egypt, Maine)
I saw "Forbidden Choices" on PBS many years ago, a drama based on Carolyn Chute's novel: "The Beans of Egypt, Maine." Martha Plimpton plays the older version of Earlene Pomerleau, who is raised by her religious, lower middle-class father and grandmother. She narrates the movie, which covers her preadolescence days up to womanhood--the years she's most fixated with her poor, white trash neighbors: the Beans.

Things go downhill for her, however, once she gets involved with them--namely Beal (Patrick McGaw), the guy who gets her pregnant when she runs away from home, and then marries her about a decade later. When this happens, Earlene's childhood fantasies are squashed. Not only does she discover Beal's longtime affair with his aunt Roberta (Kelly Lynch), but she has to suffer through severe poverty, hunger, spousal [abuse], and other hardships.

At the beginning of "Forbidden Choices," it wasn't too hard to see why Earlene falls for Beal (he's a hottie, despite his stutter), but about halfway through, the movie begins to dwindle and lose its spark, particularly when Beal turns into a replica of his temperamental convict uncle, Reuben Bean (Rutger Hauer), who was sent to prison at the beginning of the movie. At times, "Forbidden Choices" was really good (mainly the beginning half), but I thought the ending was a bit too depressing and hopeless. I'd only recommend this movie to fans of one or more of the actors/actresses in it.

Rated R for some sex/nudity, incest, profanity, and a couple animal disemboweling scenes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Take It From Me--These Actors AREN'T From ME!
This film based on Carolyn Chute's novel "The Beans of Egypt, Maine" sports some good performances, but it's choppy as all get-out. It was actually filmed under that title and was broadcast on PBS's "American Playhouse." The title change and lack of publicity suggests that the current marketing strategy is to distance the film from its vaguely "arty" and literary origins. The same kind of mentality that turned Paul Newman's version of Kesey's "Sometimes a Great Notion" into "Never Give an Inch," (Does someone in marketing really think these are catchier titles?)

As a native of Maine, I always cringe when screen actors attempt their version of a Downeast accent. They always seem to think that Maine is part of Appalachia or something. Accent-wise, no one here is quite as bad as Marisa Tomei was in "In the Bedroom," and I know this was a low-budget production and all, but even small theater groups have dialect coaches. Oddly enough, Dutch-born Rutger Hauer seems to it pull off most handily.

If anyone would like my services in this department, I'll offer them cheap! For starters, think Boston with a slight rural twang. Think of those old Pepperidge Farm commercials. And most of all, keep in mind that "auntie" is pronounced "ahntie" not "anti."

Other than the faltering accents, the acting is pretty good. Kelly Lynch, Martha Plimpton and the aformentioned Rutger Hauer head a strong cast. But this is one of those films where you'll come away convinced that the book was better even if you haven't read the book.

That's glib, I know, but it's just another way of saying that some stories cry for more detail and development than your typical film treatment can give. This would appear to be one of them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great film!
This movie is a unique film that explores many different relationships. It starts out with two children forbidden to be friends and as they grow older the attraction grows as well. The relationship starts off on the wrong foot and this effects the rest of their lives. This film has many twists and the ending may leave you feeling a little cheated, but if you like sad endings - this is a great film. ... Read more

Yes, it's true; Don Adams's Maxwell Smart act is little more than shtick, but marvelous shtick it is, and on Get Smart! with its half-hour doses of high-tech hooliganism, straight Bond parody, and uproarious slapstick, he made his mark as one of the more memorable comic figures of 1960s television. You wouldn't necessarily bet that Adams's trademark moves--deadpan mock-seriousness, smart-alecky catchphrases, and elastic faces--would translate well to the big screen; truth is, though, he's no more irritating than Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray, or any of the other comic leads of the early 1980s. In The Nude Bomb, the first (and only) Maxwell Smart movie, our secret agent 86 battles a mad KAOS scientist who possesses a fiendish weapon: one which will destroy the world's supply of clothing. Joined by several attractive compatriots (not, alas, Barbara Feldon, whose ultra-hip Agent 99--the crucial foil for the hyperactive Smart--is sorely missed), the hapless spy has 48 hours to confound the evil plot. Several hilarious premises, including a plan to render the weapon ineffective by wearing food, are adeptly exploited through winning and well-timed sight gags. Recommended not only to fans of Get Smart! but to those who appreciate high-spirited '80s comedy as well. --Miles Bethany ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars UNMEMORABLE (IT'S BEST POINT)
What the movie MISSION IMPOSSIBLE did for the TV series of the same name, THE NUDE BOMB does for (to) the TV series Get Smart. This film is absolutely irrepentable! It is actually saddening to watch this "sequel" to the TV series GET SMART. In it, the evil empire prepares to detonate a bomb that shall destroy all fabric (clothing). Hence, THE NUDE BOMB. That way the bad guys, whose clothes must be bomb-gaurded, can blackmail everyone lest they stay nude forever. Only the re-enactments of the crazy spy equipment from the TV series, and brief cameos from original cast members, offer a nominal enthusiasm for this petty disheartening tripe. No wonder 99 stayed home!

2-0 out of 5 stars I misssed rating it a 1 by ___ this much
Oh what a horrible movie. Soem parts where funny, some where recycled jokes from the TV series, but this movie of the return of Maxwell Smart was badly concepted. For starters, I think the worst thing was that Max's wife 99 is not in this movie at all! And it is not in the agent 86 charactor to play a James Bond type of Charactor, flirting with every woman, beeing every womans dream, and having a completly new love interest "get the girl at the end" type of thing going on. It is very painfull to watch that when you love the TV series and love that Max and 99 are unsepreable, and then this movie blew that up.

So Kaos is back, the bad guy is a guy with a stocking over his head, he has a bomb that destroys clothing... I dont give it a total 0 or 1 vote, there are a few chuckles here and there... I mostly rate it down because of the sexual inuendo thing goin on and ignorning that Barbra Feldon was Max's wife. If this movie was portrayed as a prequal to the TV series, it couldve worked for me... but it just didnt feel like Max, it was more a James Bond adventure!

I know many of you are unpatiently awaiting the release of the TV series on DVD, but till then, I recomend the movie that was made after this one called "Get Smart Again" which Barbra feldon returns as 99 and as Max's long time wife.... which is what you have to have to make Get Smart work.

This is a movie you might , well... not buy, not even rent, just forget about it, and if its ever on TV, and theres nothing better to do? then give it a glance..... but fans of the TV series will understand what I mean when I say it just dosent work without 99!

1-0 out of 5 stars Painful
This film was not funny. It was not campy. It was just bad. Stay far away from it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Where'd she go?????
...I absolutly love Get Smart, but please stick to Get Smart Again!(1989 film). At least that one has 99(Barbara Feldon) in it. After reading all the other reviews you can probably tell what the story is about. Kaos creates a device that makes clothes go bye-bye. Maxwell Smart(Don Adams) stops it. There it is in a nutshell. Now I've told you the story (if you call it a story), so I've saved you the misery of seeing this movie. I warned ya...

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Quite Smart
Do yourself a favor. If you are familiar with the 1960's spy spoof "Get Smart", keep your happy memories of that show intact and skip this movie. Some of the same creative minds that were behind that show were involved with this movie, but not many of them. The catchphrases are still here, but the effort is hollow. Agent 99 is not in this one, nor is she mentioned at all. Max is shown as a playboy who grins at his new female sidekick. Most of the jokes you can see coming from miles away, and when they arrive, they're still not funny. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Cool Extras
"Valley Girl" is one of my all time favorite movies and it has now come to DVD. This DVD edition of "Valley Girl" is worth the wait. The film includes a lot of neat extras like a featurette named "Valley Girl-20 Years Later." The featurette includes new video commentary from all of the cast members-except the star Deborah Foreman who is missing. In addition to the featurette, the DVD also includes 80's trivia, a site down talk with the director and Nicholas Cage, and a segment about "The Music from Valley Girl." The film itself was restored well. This is a fun movie that will take you back to the 80's and your high school days. It is definetly something that you should add to your DVD collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best 80's Teen Film Bar None!
Valley Girl is the greatest of the 1980's Teen films, and is second to none. John Hughes wishes he could have made a film this accurate, this genuine, and this sincere!
This movie is as much 80's as Easy Rider was 60's. It defined the times is what it did.
As silly as it sounds, Valley Girl is actually a very good film. It's put together extremely well, and is original, fresh, and personal all at the same time! They simply do not make teen films of this calibre anymore.
This DVD release is long overdue, but well worth the wait! There are a score of fabulous extras, a commentary track with the director, conversations between the director and Nicolas Cage today, two music videos and much much more!
The picture is high-quality with a tad bit of grain, but the sound is 5.1 surround, and is in widescreen. Valley Girl has never looked or sounded better.
If you only ever see one 80's Teen film, Valley Girl should be the one, and probably the only one you'd ever need to own.

1-0 out of 5 stars Grotty to the Max
I'm writing a novel about young people and heard "Valley Girl" was the classic of its type. Made in 1983 with Nick Gage and Deb Foreman, I had hopes that the silly "Valley Talk" would entertain. I was wrong. This is a trite soft-porn movie. If your kid watches this movie, they'll be scarred for life. I recommend this one for desperate men that dig Internet teen-porn. Cage is sort-of-Elvis like as a bad-boy punk. He meets non-grody to the max Deb Foreman and a good girl-bad boy crush begins. The beach scene has bikinis and young bods, but then the camera shows teenager Cage in swim trunks. My gal and I started laughing. Cage has a V-shaped bush of hair on his upper chest that looks like it was from the Planet of the Apes wardrobe room. Notice that all actors shave their chest these days, but I guess body hair was in in 83. Thank goodness for director John Hughes. Later in the 80's, he showed Hollywood how to give real character and motivation to young people. Rent "Pretty in Pink" and pass on "Valley Girls."

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Film of the 80's
I will not go into a long spiel about what this film is about since many have already chosen to do so (and I know that is what a review is somewhat about), however I do not want to ruin the plot for anyone. I will say that as a gal who grew up in the 80's, this is one of my FAVORITE 80's films. Even today if I were to watch it, it would take me back to my high school years...the cool tunes, the freaky styles (well, we saw ourselves as "cool" back then), and the lingo, ahhh the lingo. I will add this to my DVD collection so someday when my children are older (now 5 and 3), they can watch it and perhaps get a kick out of the 80's genre of when their mom grew up.

5-0 out of 5 stars 1 of My Favorite Films / 80's Classic
Modern day Romeo & Juliet cliche plot boy from the wrong side of the tracks falls for the preppy girl who's friends don't approve. But it's done with such style and a different twist in this 80's classic. Nic Cage's 1st major role as Randy a punk rocker from West Hollywood whos falls head over heels for a preppy valley girl Julie from Southern Cali. I was basically obsessed with Nic Cage's character ( Randy) in this movie for a while being into the punk scene. Everything about this film is so defining of the 80's when he brings her to the punk club and The Plimsouls are playing " A Million Miles Away" and he looks at her and says real quick when can I see you again and then turns his head quick back away. You can just see right there how much he was into her. At the end is amazing when there at the prom and Randy & Fred his best friend crash the prom when "Johnny are you queer" by Josie Cotton is playing and Randy & Julie hop in the limo and ride of into the night Modern English's classic " Melt with you" comes on. Did I mention what a great soundtrack this movie has every song is perfect for the scenes. One of the best 80's films of all time and & in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Essential to collection for anyone who grew up in the 80's cinema. Story of opposites attracting and following there own path together regardless of what other people think. I own the special edition DVD and a must see movie. ... Read more

I own the special edition DVD and a must see movie. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Old School Slasher
Welcome back to the early eighties as "Lover's Lane" revisits the time when low budget slashers were all the rage. The film tells the story of a deranged, hook-handed maniac who escapes the asylum on the anniversary of his previous massacre to kill again. Intro the whacky teens who decide to party near the scene of the original massacre and you can guess the rest. "Lover's Lane" is an enjoyable romp into familiar horror territory and boasts good performances by the young cast as well as an appearance by Richard Sanders from WKRP fame. The film is not high on bloody gore but there are plenty of victims and chase style suspense sequences to ensure a fun time will be had by all. Gotta like that out of control ending as well. The only complaint is that the DVD's lone extra is the theatical trailer, a director commentary would have been a welcome addition. In all, "Lover's Lane" should be of interest to fans of eighties slashers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hooked on Sex
Fast pacing and fine acting make this low budget version of the classic campfire tale of "the Hook" really worth a look. What appears to be a straight forward story of hormonally charged teenagers attacked by a maniac at their make out spot is actually a richly textured morality tale riddled with undertones of incest, betrayal and infidelity. The subtle allusions to TV and movie classics of the past are fun to look for and hard to spot. Like a lot of films in this genre, half the fun is guessing who the killer is and this film really throws in several great twists. Lovers Lane was also instrumental in making the careers of several of the actors involved, like Anna Faris who went on to star in "Scary Movie I & II", as well as Billy O'Sullivan who was then cast in "Wakin Up In Reno" with Billy Bob Thornton and Charlize Theron. There's also some great music including a track by rising R&B singer Colin Peacock. So what if it doesn't have some of the glossy effects of Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer - this movie makes up for it on guts and raw energy. Definitely something that should be on a collectors shelves if for no other reason that to see the "first" movie of some future stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful portrayel of what its like to get in too deep..
the black circle boys was a great movie about what i would call social misfits (most people are right.. i wouldn't really consider them very gothic) and their world of drugs, satan, "brotherhood", and death. shane, kyle, mun, and rory, (and chloe) make up this movie of oddities.. the story of kyle, the all-american swimmer gone satanist, (against his wishes may i add), and the story of shane, (psychotic childhood, crazy father) are somehow understandable. and although the drug dealer (donnie wahlberg?!) is pretty much the only comedic sense to the film (from new kids to satan?) i found this movie to be very well acted, well written, well produced, and the storyline was wicked. the ending was a bit disapointing.. in a way where you want to see more.. what happened to certain charachers(charachter) etc. but i have added this movie to my list of favorites.. its actually a good life lesson of what its like to get in too deep.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Sundance Triumph
Well, this movie has quickly become one of the favorites and most recommended titles in my library (I own it on VHS and DVD). First off, the acting is superb! Eric Mabius' portrayal of the gothic Shane Carver is very believable and well done. It was a surprise to me that this movie had not made a bigger impact in the movie scene. Although movies such as 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' and 'Scream' are hailed as great horror movies, they PALE in comparison with 'The Black Circle Boys'. This movie discards the teen-idol-littered plots and instead builds on a strong and realistic story. Fans of the gothic subculture will especially enjoy this movie due to its theme and imagery. But if youre looking for a no nonsense movie and a time well spent, then I must advise you to buy this title...especially since amazon.com is the only place I have found that sells this title on DVD.

4-0 out of 5 stars Two thumbs up
In my opinion this movie is exactly what you would expect it to be. Sure it is vulgar, sure there are a lot of explicits throughout the movie and much drug use, but it is what it is. Scott's charachter is coming to grips with his friends death and looking to fit in and rebel where ever he can. It is a dark movie not suited for children, but if this is the type of movie that you enjoy and go into it knowing that it is dark, vulgar and morbid, and that is what you want to see at the moment then you get what you rented. No this is not what teens are like, nor is TX Chainsaw real either, the point is just sit back and either enjoy it or hate it, but I give it 4 out of 5 stars. It is what it is.

1-0 out of 5 stars POINTLESS
Eric Maibus and Scott Bairstow have become fine young actors, and even their adequate performances cannot save this dismal, pointless, lurid and sadistic movie. Dee Wallace Stone should be ashamed for participating. Maibus plays the hypnotic leader of a teenage devil cult, with no conscience, morals, or regard for anyone but himself; Bairstow plays the usual "misunderstood" teen who looks to the group for acceptance. The script is laden with offensive four letter words in every other sentence; enough is enough. If this is the way teens talk, then steer me clear, folks. There is no heart or soul in this movie, and no reason to rent or buy. NO STARS. C'MON AMAZON, WHEN YOU GONNA GIVE US THE 0 STARS OPTIONS???

4-0 out of 5 stars shattering performance by Mabius
Scott Bairstow(Wild America, New Best Friend) and his parents move to a new town, he's enrolled into a new school, its where he meets a girl and the girl tells him about the Black Circle Boys, lead by Eric Mabius(Resident Evil, The Crow: Salvation), and other members include a fat brainwhacked kid, Donnie Wahlberg(Dreamcatcher, Southie), Wahlberg seems like a pervert..really and a skinny and whimpy Chad Lindberg(October Sky, The Fast and The Furious)..they include Bairstow into their little circle..party, rock on and do rituals..one involving a cat. Description

From Marvel/Claster, the team behind Transformers and G.I. Joe, comes another action-packed wonder, INHUMANOIDS, which debuted on television in 1986.Long ago, the Inhumanoids (Metlar, Tendril and D'Compose) were defeated by the Mutores (Granites, Redwoods and Magnakor), who imprisoned the Inhumanoids under the Earth's crust until unsuspecting humans dug them up, unleashing their evil. Now, a team of scientists (Armstrong, Bright, Auger and Liquidator) called Earth Corps teams up with the Mutores to take on the Inhumanoids and stop their plans to destroy the planet.

Part 1:A preserved dinosaur is discovered in the Big Sur National Forest. The dinosaur is Tendril, a hideous creature buried during ancient times who unleashes his fury with his ally D'Compose. It is up to the Earth Corps team to stop the Inhumanoids. The team hopes to prevent the Inhumanoids from releasing the evil tyrant Metlar.

Part 2:The Earth Corps manage to subdue Tendril, but only for a short while. The Corps agree to an alliance with Sandra Shore, who will fund their efforts, but only with some underlying conditions. With the looming threat of Metlar's release, the newly formed Earth Corps go into battle and three members of the team are taken hostage by the creature.

4-0 out of 5 stars INHUMANOIDS THE EVIL THAT LIES WITHIN
This is a cool cartoon that I use to watch wen I was a kid back in the 80s. Its about 3 GIANT Monsters. Tendril. D'Compose and Metlar the Inhumanoids. Monsters that were buried during ancient times. That just now have ben let loose by humans that did not know what they were doing. The 3 Monsters wage war against the earth after being set free. The only ones that can stop them are 4 scientists Armstrong, Bright, Auuger, and Liquidator, that form a team called Earth Corps. and some other monsters that first locked the Inhumanoids up. It is really cool that Rhino has release the Inhumanoids and some other good cartoons from the 80s.They have release The Inhumanoids the Evil that lies within Volume 1 with 2 Episodes on it. And Volume 2 with 3 Episodes on that one. what I don't get is why they did not release all 5 Episodes on 1 VHS Tape. like thy did on the DVD? and why they cut some of the theme song out? P.S the tape does not last 60 mins. its more like 30 mins. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rose Red ---- Awsome
Anyone who likes Stephan King will love it. Watched the mini-series and loved it. Can't wait until it is release on video.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY SCARY FILM!!!!! RELEASE ON VHS PLEASE!!!!!!!
Please Studios, release Rose red on VHS,I dont own a DVD player but need this wonderfully creepy film in my collection! PLEASE!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome movie and book!!!!!!
I loved Rose Red!! There is just something about it. I would highly recommend reading the diary before watching the movie. I did the opposite, however, both stories are excellent on their own. It does not matter how many times you watch Rose Red, it still remains creepy and scary!! If you love the movie, read the book!! It is amazing. I am sadly, almost done with the book. I may reread parts of it again, cause I loved it so much!! I carry the book with me everywhere I go. I loved the house, it is amazing. I would love to go the Thornewood castle and the Winchester mansion. I loved Kimberely Brown, and Julian Sands. I hope this movie, comes out on vhs pretty soon!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Four Fingers anyone?
At first when I first seen Rose Red I thought it would be some ... old Mini series like Storm of the Century, but I was wrong. The Movie was great. My favorite charactor ( tell you the truth) was actuly Emmery. He 's misunderstood but people can relate him. But later on his fingers get cut of because Annie was possed for a second and slammed the door shut when he had his fingers in the door. I recomend you see this movie it was greaT!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not up to the usual standards.
Rose Red (Craig Baxley, 2001)

Craig Baxley, who did such a wonderful job with the adaptation of Stephen King's Storm of the Century (and recently completed an adaptation of one of my favorite woefully underappreciated books, Brooks Stanwood's chilling The Glow), took on another written-for-the-small-screen King miniseries and came up with an opposite effect. In all the places where Storm was great, Rose Red stumbles.

The plot surrounds a haunted house in Seattle (can we all say The Winchester Mansion, folks?) and a professor of child psychology, Joyce Reardon (Nancy Travis, of So I Married an Axe Murderer fame), who believes that the key to getting hard evidence of the paranormal phenomena in the house lies in a sixteen year old autistic girl named Annie (Kimberley Brown, of various Nickelodeon movies and A Bug's Life). She also invites Annie's sister Lauren (Melanie Lynskey, most famous as Kate Winslet's foil in Heavenly Creatures) and a plethora of other psychics along for the Memorial Day Weekend ride.

The main problem witbh Rose Red is that, despite a cast that redefines "high-powered" where TV miniseries are concerned, the whole thing is painfully overacted. Of the entire cast, only Julian Sands (as psychic Nick Hardaway) and Lynskey deliver performances that would seem out of place on a daytime soap opera. Storm of the Century gave us a cast of then-relatively-unknowns who played their parts with chilling minimalism. The comparison is painful.

Worth seeing if you're a King completist, but Storm of the Century or the video release of The Stand (six hours on tape, eight on TV) is a much better way to spend a long King-soaked afternoon. ** 1/2 ...
