When Tim Burton and Michael Keaton announced that they'd had enough of the Batman franchise, director Joel Schumacher stepped in (with Burton as coproducer) to make this action-packed extravaganza starring Val Kilmer as the caped crusader. Batman is up against two of Gotham City's most colorful criminals, the Riddler (a role tailor-made for funnyman Jim Carrey) and the diabolical Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones), who join forces to conquer Gotham's population with a brain-draining device. Nicole Kidman plays the seductive psychologist who wants to know what makes Batman tick. Boasting a redesigned Batmobile and plenty of new Bat hardware, Batman Forever also introduces Robin the Boy Wonder (Chris O'Donnell) whose close alliance with Batman led more than a few critics to ponder the series' homoerotic subtext. No matter how you interpret it, Schumacher's take on the Batman legacy is simultaneously amusing, lavishly epic, and prone to chronic sensory overload. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good sequel saves the series...
Val Kilmer is Batman in this third entry into the successful series. The Riddler is wreaking havoc on Gotham City and it's up to Batman to save the day. Chris O'Donnell plays Robin and joins a reluctant Batman in bringing down Riddler and Two-Face. Director Joel Schumacher makes "Batman Forever" a bright, stylized comic-book movie and succeeds for the most part. Tommy Lee Jones is silly as Two-Face and Jim Carrey is goofily over-the-top as the Riddler. Hold on to your bat-seats, fans. This is a good one!

4-0 out of 5 stars Third Chapter Lightens Things Up A Bit
Joel Schumacher took over Tim Burton's director's chair for the first time in this mystical and visually stunning third installment in the BATMAN film series (Burton produced). His rather campy and flamboyant style is apparent throughout the film, which lightens things up a bit, but nowhere as severe as in his follow-up BATMAN & ROBIN. Val Kilmer does his best to play things straight (no homoerotic puns intended) as Batman this time while fighting Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones) and The Riddler (Jim Carrey). In fact Jim Carrey manages to steal almost every scene he appears in, which kind of makes you route more for him than for the heroes. Robin is also introduced in this episode, played rather well (and sympathetically) by Chris O'Donnell. The only thing that really didn't work here was the under-development of Two-Face (we see a brief and rather cheesy televised glimpse of him in court as DA Harvey Dent as he gets acid thrown face, while Batman tries to save him). There was roughly an hour of footage cut from this film (sheesh!), which may account for some of the loopholes in character development and why things may seem a little too rushed at times.

F.Y.I there is a new BATMAN DVD set coming out sometime later this year (or early 2002). This film and the first film will be restored with extra footage. I for one am curious to see what else may have been left out, however that would make this movie over 3 hours long!

2-0 out of 5 stars Tommy Deserved Better
This film has a suitable "Two-Face" style reaction for me. On the one hand it is a relief after the nasty darkness of 'Batman Returns' it is also a disappointment in terms of character development and overall Feel. Val Kilmer's Batman is a pouty, emotionally stunted wet blanket(not his fault but the director's), Nicole Kidman's character is a slut, Chris O'Donnel's Robin spends the entire movie acting like a punk, and Jim Carrey plays Ace Ventura, I mean the Mask, uhh.. Riddler.

The thing that really makes me mad though is taking a Great Actor, Tommy Lee Jones, Cast him as a Great Character, Two-Face, and Making him perform him like he was the Joker and under-develop him to the point that he plays second fiddle, no pun intended, to JIM CARREY! CURSE YOU SHUMACHER!

If the film had centered around Two-Face and Bruce's guilt for not being fast enough to help him, it would have been great! But that is almost an after thought in the actual film. Blaming Two-Face for the Death of Robin's parents sets him up to be a "Robin" villain, Something more suitable for Riddler or the Penguin.

All this ranting aside, Tommy is the only Main Character who is actually convincing in the film. It's too bad he wasn't able to work with Tim Burton and Michael Keaton on a film that was worthwhile.

Elliot Goldenthal Wrote the music but it pales in comparison with Elfman's work on the first two films.

I was hoping there would be deleted scenes on the DVD but there aren't any. Most of Tommy's Scenes are in the movie, but some juicier moments were cut. Oh well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Batman Forever
Batman Forever is the third installment in the highly successful Batman series. This movie is good in many aspects, and not so great in other ways.It is certainly no where near as good as the first two, but it is still a fun and impressive film. The new characters ;Riddler and Two Face are great.Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carry aren't that bad; but at first I wasn't that sure how they were going to do.I also liked how they brought in Robin. The movie has an awesome cast; they did for the most part a good job.Nicole Kidman was in this one, but this film definetly wasn't one of her best pictures;not that she didn,t do a good job.The riddles also weren't to bad.Now some of them were easy, but added up well.ASnother thing I liked was Gotham City; it looks best in B2 though. The special effects were an improvement from the first two.Now that we are through with the good let's go to the bad.I hated so much how there was a new Batman; no offence to Val Kilmer, but he just shouldn't have done this. Also the new director. It wasn't the same without Tim Burton and Michael Keaton.Besides that the film was good and I would recommend it.

The third installment in the "Batman" series. Here the Caped Crusader must once again contend with two strange-looking, personality-impaired villains. First, there's maniacal ex-DA Harvey Two-Face, so named because half his countenance has been horribly disfigured by acid. Then there's the wise-cracking, hyperactive Riddler, whose alter-ego Edward Nygma is a nerdy, highly disgruntled ex-employee of Bruce Wayne. Together, these two masterminds plan to conquer the world with a device that not only mesmerizes users with 3-D television images, but also transports the viewer's thoughts into the Riddler's mind.Batman also has to contend with two other new people in his life. One is lovely psychiatrist Chase Meridian, who has fallen in love with Batman AND Bruce Wayne. Then there's Dick Grayson, a young, orphaned acrobat who desperately wants to become Batman's crime-fighting sidekick in order to get revenge on the man responsible for his parents' death: Harvey Two-Face.(7/10)

Following Val Kilmer's portrayal of the caped crusader in Batman Forever, the fourth Batman feature stars George Clooney under the pointy-eared cowl, with Chris O'Donnell returning as Robin the Boy Wonder. This time the dynamic duo is up against the nefarious Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger), who is bent on turning the world into an iceberg, and the slyly seductive but highly toxic Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman), who wants to eliminate all animal life and turn the Earth into a gigantic greenhouse. Alicia Silverstone lends a hand as Batgirl, and Elle McPherson plays the thankless role of Batman/Bruce Wayne's fiancée. A sensory assault of dazzling colors, senseless action, and lavish sets run amok, this Batman & Robin offers an overdose of eye candy, but it is strictly for devoted Bat-o-philes. --Jeff Shannon ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This Movie Sucks
This movie should never had been made. Arnold Schwarzenegger should have never been in this movie. This is his worst film ever, well besides the whole terminateor trilogy. George Clooney absoulutely sucks as batman. Chris O'Donnell is the worst actor in hollywood history. The only good actress' in this movie are Uma Thurman and Alicia Silverstone.Dont waste your money if you are thinking about buying this movie.

2-0 out of 5 stars What were they thinking?
I actually was not disappointed by this film. The Trailer made the movie look stupid and it was. However, I was actually surprised what I actually did like about it. Arnold, while still acting like every other Shumacher villain actually had some good scenes; the Sculpting of the Ice globe in Arkham, learning his wife was dead; and the only problem with Clooney was the script and direction. The same goes for Uma and Michael Gough. the biggest Problem, besides the script and director, was Alicia Silverstone as a really annoying person who thought she was Batgirl. Also Elliot Goldenthal's music is no match for Danny Elfman's contributions.

The lack of extras makes the DVD pretty boring.

1-0 out of 5 stars Crapman and Slobin
The most entertaining part of this flick, was Clooney's rubber ariolas!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Batman & Robin (1997)
Batman & Robin was a bit of a dissapointment; I had heard it was a dud, but since I love Batman I had to check it out.In a nut shell Batman & Robin is a movie that gives up a good story outline and decent dialogue for big special effects and expensive gadgets.Don't get me wrong the special effects are a major improvement from the others and the gadgets are awesome, but that's not what mad the first two so popular.I now there has been a new director for the last two films, but he should have gone back to the ethics of the first two by Burton.Another drawback is that the film doesn't have that good of acting and they don't have a solid Batman.I thought Val Kilmer sucked as Batman, but George Clooney makes Val Kilmer look like a good one.Uma Thurman does a great job, but sometimes it is a bit over the top at times.Arnold yet another problem.I liked the sickness with Alfred and how they tried to have a little heart in the film, but it was all covered up by the big effects and explosions.Batgirl was also a nice addition to the film and the conflict between Batman not trusting Robin with the fighting.Overall it just needed to tone down with all the major effects. If your a fan of the series you should probably check this one out.

The Caped Crusader returns to battle the abominable Mr. Freeze and green-thumbed Poison Ivy. To save his ailing wife, Dr. Victor Fries turns to a life of crime after a hideous accident makes him unable to tolerate even moderate temperatures, while Dr. Pamela Isley falls victim to mutated plant DNA when things go awry in a jungle laboratory funded by Wayne Industries. Of course, though their interests are diametrically opposed (Freeze wants another Ice Age; Ivy wants to make the world safe for plants), the two villains team up to defeat Gotham's dynamic duo of Batman and Robin, who are joined by butler Alfred's motorcycle-obsessed niece as Batgirl. And when Alfred is diagnosed as having the same terminal disease as Freeze's wife, the trio find themselves not only fighting an altruistic battle, but a personal one as well. A frenetic, colorful, and often overwhelming sequel to "Batman," "Batman Returns," and "Batman Forever."(5/10)

"Warner Bros, we got a problem."

1-0 out of 5 stars Shame On Them
Everyone who was even remotely involved in this mess should be ashamed of themselves. A complete and baldfaced sellout to the highest bidder results in lowest common denominator filmmaking. A live action cartoon. One of the most promising series in recent Hollywood is driven into a brick wall in this extravaganza of loud noises and garish colors. Just sad. ... Read more

Just sad. ...

"Not as dark as its predecessor but still a great visual feast"

this may have been said before, but these last 2 sequels are like gay disco batman movies. joel shummacher even decided to put in rubber nipples for the last flick to add some homoerotic tone for the whole family, so if that's your cup of tea you will probably think this waste of plastic is just peachy. ...
