For those not familiar with the popular Nickelodeon TV series and the phenomenally successful Scholastic book series by K.A. Applegate, Animorphs centers on the adventures of five teens who can morph into animals and bugs. They battle the Yeerks, a frightful mercenary alien race (slimy, sluglike, gray-green, and the size of a rat) who want to control humans by entering their ears and taking over human minds. Don't dismiss Animorphs as a sci-fi Saved by the Bell. The acting is surprisingly topnotch and the stories are fun and thrilling.Animorphs: The Invasion Series, Part 1--The Invasion Begins introduces friends and morphers Jake (Shawn Ashmore), Rachel (Brooke Nevin), Marco (Boris Cabrera), Cassie (Nadia Nascimento), and Tobias (Christopher Ralph). Three episodes from the TV series, "My Name Is Jake," parts 1 and 2, and "The Underground," reveal how the Animorphs learn to use their gift and uncover the Yeerk plan. Part of the nasty alien plot is to acquire as many human controllers (those possessed by Yeerks) as possible. And despite the darkness of story, there's a sense of humor, too: one of the human controllers is the high school principal. For ages 6 and up. --N.F. Mendoza ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Paper into Film
K.A. Applegate's world famous book series ANIMORPHS has finally hit the TVs of kids who tune into Nickeldoen. Shawn Ashmore plays the Animorphs' leader, Jake. The brave and lion-hearted Rachel is Brooke Nevin. Boris Cabrera plays Marco's part well with his jokes and, may I add, he's really cute. Nadia Nascimento (maybe I spelled that wrong) plays the nature wise Cassie. And last of the "human" actors is Tobias played by Christopher Ralph. And Homer is played by Jesse. These actors play their parts well and the special effects are great for the low sum they had to use. If you liked the books, you'll love the shows. But, and a big BUT, the books are always better. So, don't forget to open the newest ANIMORPHS soon!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Im sorry, but I...LUV IT!!!!!
Okay, let me show you what I liked about it. The exellent visser three portrayal was definitely a good start, and the morphing was nicely done. The music fit well with it (though I'm darn dissapointed with the theme) and Boris Cabera and Christopher....what's his name... were good actors and the yeerk pools had a nice spooky touch. It did well copying the pulse pounding excitement of the books and... though it didn't really have that Animorphs FEEL sometimes, it had a unique feel that I really liked. The starship was... dissapointingly low resolution, but it was satisfactory and the Hork Bajir...well...I just don't think they really should look like that. Overall, Animorphs is a fun series that appeals to many ages.

4-0 out of 5 stars Review of Part 1
I watched this video 2 days ago and it fascinated me and my 8-year old son...the acting is good and these kids are more or less similar to the characters in the book but totally different. With books turned into a TV series, you cannot really expect a "literal" copy of the book to be turned into a TV series but it's still entertaining to watch. I just wish they have this series in reruns or something....and continue to fascinate young generations like my son.

1-0 out of 5 stars HONESTLY
I don't mean to insult those who think the movie is okay--well that's your choice. Sure movies don't always NEED to fit the book exactly, but come on, at least they should still MAKE SENSE. In the part after the Animorphs have found Ax, as they run away from Visser Three and the controllers, they run into a room with an open ceiling and lock the door. Visser Three uses his tail blade to break the door open (and in the meantime, the Animorphs are aquiring butterflies, to get away) After Visser Three managed to get the door open all the way, he morphs to human before going in and saying "Nooo!" as he sees the butterflies fly away. Now WHY WHY WHY would Visser Three morph to human??? He only uses his human morph when he's among real humans, to hide his real form. There were no real humans here, only controllers. And after all, he thought that he was dealing with Andalite warriors here, right? SO why would he morph into a human that has no natural weapons at all???
There's a lot more pointless stuff than that. Like when Rachel morphs to cat to go spying on Chapman's house. Why doesn't she stay in the dining room to spy on Melissa and Chapman??? Why does she go down into the basement? In the book, the reason why she went there was cause she was following Chapman there, but here it makes no sense at all. And then, get this, once she reaches the basement, she DEMORPHs, which is really dangerous. And then she starts searching through a desk that's there, muttering "come on, come on". ERM, what exactly is she looking for? In the movie she went into this house to check wether or not Melissa is a controller. So what exactly does she expect to find on a DESK? Maybe a document, some piece of paper, that says "Melissa Chapman is a controller" ?? It just seems really stupid, how she's hastily searching through this desk, muttering "Come on, come on.." when she's really searching for NOTHING if you think about it, lol. Like someone else said: If you wanna save money, don't buy this junk. On the other hand, I would also recomend you to buy it, if you feel like it :D , just so that you can laugh your butt off at all the cheapness. (Jake always grins so stupidly when he's supposed to be serious, the furr on Ax's head looks like a punk, and in the part where Elfangor tells the Animorphs to run away from the aproaching yeerks, he's like "Go! Goooo! Gooo!" ugh. He might as well say "Gooo, my little Animorphs, gooo! Mwhahahaha!" ;) )

2-0 out of 5 stars Animorphs, The Invasion Series
The movie (or small episodes on one video) was quite disappointing. I am a HUGE fan of the book series, Animorphs, by K.A. Applegate so I decided to check out the movie in the library. The movie was a horrible. The actors were much older than the characters in the book. The actors did not portray the characters they were playing very well. The Andalites were completely fake looking and the movie strayed more from the basic book plot than I would have liked. I thought maybe the people who made the movie might have put the episdes in order instead of skipping around. There were some switched roles and completely messed up personalities. All in all, I wouldn't recommend buying the movie if you want to save money. Try renting or borrowing it. ... Read more

If you know the difference between an Andalite and a Yeerk, then you'll easily become engrossed in this video, which contains three episodes of the Animorphs television series. Even if you're not hooked on the series of sci-fi books that are sweeping grade schools, there's enough inherent dramato draw you in and clues to help you figure it out. Each installment involves high drama: the teens are chased by bad guys and morph into animals as they deal with high-anxiety trauma. In one episode, the teens meet Ax, a wild-looking Andalite creature who falls from space to help them fight the resident bad guys, the parasitic Yeerks. In the best segment, Cassie--one of the morphing teens--can't stop turning into a crocodile against her will. The solution? She burps up the beast. Gross? Yep, and totally kid cool. --Valerie J. In the second part of the Animorphs Invason Series, the first episode ic called "Between Friends", Rachel's friends, Melissa, is the daughter of Principal Chapman, and he's a Controller. Rachel is getting suspicious that her friend is a Controller, too.Investigating gets her into trouble! In "The Message", Cassie and Tobias are recieving weird signals in their brains about something crashing..With an ALIEN INSIDE!The message gets Jake scared, so the Animorphs set off to find the crash site, and a young Andalite is waiting there. His name is Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill. He's the newest Animorph. In "The Reaction", the episode portrays the Animorphs title #12, when Rachel is morphing out of control! In the show, CASSIE morphs a crocodile to save a little boy. Rachel helps, and they're both invited as guests on a talk show that's airing on t.v. With the only way of her crazy out-of-her-control morphing, Cassie has to go on, and risk getting caught. Ax, the new Animorph, says the only way to fix the problem is to regurgitate the croc's DNA- in the shape of the 12-foot reptile.

5-0 out of 5 stars ANIMORPHS VIDEO # 2- NOWHERE TO RUN!!!!!!!!
I am so sick of people saying about how its Rachel not Cassie-WE KNOW THAT! Even though they don't make them the same did any of you ever think that maybe most TRUE Animorphs fans who have read the books would want something diffrent????Well this video is great even if all you people who aren't true Animorphs fans don't think so!!!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars books v. movies
I think that this movie was ok . I LOVE the Animorphs series
and am trying to own all the movies ( i have the 1st 2 ) I'm waiting for the 3rd and 4th to come in .They should make the episodes longer 2 . By the tome the credits r over , half the episode is 2!
Anyway ,
I think that if you are a fan of the books that you will be disapointed . They change the stories around . Like with the uncontrollable morphing in the 3rd episode on this video .
In the books its Rachel but here its Cassie . But shes suppose 2 be the best morpher so it makes no sense!
The special affects r pretty bad 2 . The hrk-bajir look nothing like they should and the andalites r just sad .
what ever happened 2 the taxxons?
and they were supose 2 find ax in the domeship in the ocean !
so yeah , they change the stories and the special effects r pathedic .
but I bought it because its Animorphs .
and the 1st 1 was good .so if u have the rest of the series ,
you gotta have this one .
just don't expect 2 much .
and oh yeah -
4 other reviewers-
when you talk bout the books/series/animorphs ending-
don't spoil it 4 the rest of us, ok ?

1-0 out of 5 stars Calling it Animorphs should be a crime
I absolutly love the books. They are awsome they are great this is not. This series is so bad I can't stand it. The books are wonderful and full of battles and aliens. This has no real battles. Morphing is only showed half the time. You never see an entire andalite at once. The Hork Bajar just stand there. The taxxons are not in this. The acting was absolutly terrible. If only this series was good. Animorphs had so much potencial so much. ... Read more

As if alien invasion isn't enough to deal with, Rachel finds out herdivorced dad is moving 1,000 miles away and wants her to leave her friends, mother, and sister behind and join him in "The Stranger," the first of three 24-minute episodes based on the Scholastic book series by K.A. Applegate. While she is mulling over Dad's offer, Rachel and the rest of the band ofmorphing teenagers face a tempting offer: stay on earth and fight whatappears to be a losing battle to the invading Yeerks, or take refuge on a safeplanet with their families. In "The Leader," parts 1 and 2, Jake and Marcoare caught morphing into animals and launched into space to face a powerful new Yeerk leader, Visser One, who turns out to be the mother Marco thoughthad been dead for two years. The three episodes from Nickelodeon's prime-time series are sandwiched by extra footage of Marco first making his case to quit theteens' quest to save the earth and then, after discovering his mother's fate, vowing to fight until she is free. This well-produced adventure seriescombines domestic tales with science fiction geared toward ages6-12. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

The show is okay, but has no comparison to the book series. The books are more graphic, and funnier. Also, They twist the story around. Like in the reaction. Rachel is the one who has the allergec reaction, not cassie. The actors can't act either. The people who played Jake, Tobias, and Cassie are the only people that I have seen on other T.V. shows.

1-0 out of 5 stars Read the books
Read the books. They are awsome one of the best book series ever made. This show is [is bad]. Morphing is only showed half the time. In the books there are intenes battles and an awsome story. In this show there are no battles just sneaking around. There are no Taxxons. The andalites look like weird mupputs and you never see there whole body at once. Ax and Visser three are always in human morph. The hork bajar look right but they don't move anywhere. They just stand there. Remember the witty and smart dialoge of the books replaced with stupid and unrehersed acting of the show. The charactors don't look like the book charactors at all. Read the books don't watch this [show].

5-0 out of 5 stars The Enemy Among Us
This movie is great. The 4th one is the best but this one is right behind it. In the Stranger Rachel is offered by her dad to move 1,000 miles away with him. Then Jake, Rachel, Marco, and Cassie are warned by Tobias that Ax is in trouble. They attempt to save him but are caught in a net. Then the net vanishes. Tobias is in human form much to everyone's suprise. They are greeted by a being called the Ellimist. He offers them a chance to leave Earth with their families including a human Tobias, Tom, and possibly Marco's mom. He shows them what happens in the future after they are caught. Rachel is Visser Three's (now Visser One) best warrior and Tobias was roasted and eaten with barbaque sauce. Rachel takes a knife from her older self. The Animorphs refuse his offer. They are caught in the net. Rachel cuts it with the knife. Marco and Rachel save Ax and Rachel doesn't go with her father. In The leader Part 1 Jake discovers there is a second Kandrona at the EGS tower. They set out to destroy it. JAke and Marco are captured and taken to the Mother Ship where MArco discovers a suprising secret. In Part 2 Jake and Marco steal a Blade SHip and with Ax's help they get back to Earth. Marco now has a new reason to fight the Yeerks.

4-0 out of 5 stars okay
If you ask me, you should read the books first, then watch the movies. The other way around kinda spiols it. I like how the movies are visual, I am a visual person after all (kinda). I still think that the books are better than the videos because they have a longer storyline and a really interesting one, not that I am saying that the videos don't, because they do, they are just kinda dilluting it, that's all. Read book #1, then go down to your local video renting store and check out the first video in the series and you'll see what I mean. The videos are pretty good though, beleive me. The books are better, however, if you want a really good book to read, choose the Holy Bible, God's word.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this movie, it was so awsome. You have to see it!
Animorphs. Five normal kids with the power to become any ANIMAL they touch. Jake, Marco, Rachel Cassie, and Tobias are Earth's only HOPE against an alien invasion that's hit their neighborhood. For those not familiar with the popular Nickelodeon series, Animorphs concerns the adventures offive teens who have been given the ability to morph into animals and bugs. Don't dismiss it as asci-fi Saved by the Bell. The acting is surprisingly top-notch, and the stories are fun and thrilling.Animorphs: Part 4--The Legacy Survives finds friends and morphers Jake (ShawnAshmore), Rachel (Brooke Nevin), Marco (Boris Cabrera), Cassie (Nadia Nascimento), and Tobias(Christopher Ralph) in their big battle against the Yeerks, sluglike aliens who aspire to take over theworld. The Yeerks insinuate themselves into a human ear and have all the appearances of being human. The three-episode adventure offered in Animorphs: Part 4--The Legacy Survives is like thecreatively creepy They Live! for the 7 and up set.

The actual morphing process, as the teens turn into creatures, is especially neat, and audiences may findthere's not quite enough of the inventive special effect. 2-0 out of 5 stars Read The Books
Here is my positive and negitive lists. Positive: Good Acting, Good time passer. Negitive: weak special effects, bad alien voices, toatlly different from the book, visser three looks dumb. All in all this was the best of the four, but they do weird things, like they find ax in the forest and Cassie has long hair in some episodes and short hair in others. I suggest you read the books.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Legacy Survives
This is the best of the 4 movies! The 3 episodes are The Capture Parts 1 and 2 and Not My Problem. In the Capture Part 1 The animorphs discover the yeerks are in charge of a health clinic where the governor will receive a treatment and if the Yeerk's plan is successful he will be a human-controller. He is also running for president! Jake falls into the Yeerk Pool and becomes a controller. In the Capture Part 2 Ax figures out that Jake is a human-controller. Jake keeps reassuring the animorphs that he is not and they figure they must lock him up for 3 days to be sure. On the thrid day Jake waits for Rachel (who is guarding him) to fall asleep. He then morphs to dog and escapes the barn undetected (or so he thinks). He leads the animorphs to a new entrance to the Yeerk Pool. He finds out that his friends knew he escaped since Rachel had only been pretending. The Yeerk dies and the Animorphs meet at the mall where Jake calls tom disgusing his voice telling him not to give up. In Not My Problem Jake has had enough between fighting Yeerks and keeping up with his schoolwork. He wishes he never met the Elfangor and the Ellimist grants his wish. Then durind their new lives Tobias (who is the only animorph) tells Rachel about the Yeerk threat. At 1st she thinks he's nuts. Later they all go to a Sharing meeting where Tobias is caught sneeking around. It is then revealed that Jake is a controller. After school Tobias calls Rachel and asks her to meet him at the Spider Club (the place where the Sharing meeting was held). Jake follows her and a lion saves her from Jake. The lion turns out to be Tobias. He and Rachel tie Jake up and then Jake asks him about the "andalite" that attacks him. It turns out that Rachel has been a controller since the previous night and then she tells Jake everything. Tobias tries to escape but Tom, Cassie, Marco, and 2 punks cut off his escape. He is captured and Visser 3 comes in and promotes Jake to Visser 10. Jake tries to infest Tobias but fails when the real Jake fights back. Jake is then in his room back in a world where Tobias is still a hawk, the animorphs exist and none of them are controllers. Was it a dream or real? All in all this is a great movie.

1-0 out of 5 stars For shame
These books are great and the movie made a joke out of them. Visser 3 looks like a blue hair ball and theirs NO ACTION!

1-0 out of 5 stars A shame to the name Animorph
This like its predeseres is an insult to the magical books. The books were great this wasn't. Gone is the intense action and fights the book described. Now we get garbage sneaking around. The andalites are very fake and are never showen all at once. No taxxons at all. The hork bajar just stand there. Gone is the witty smart acting of the books replaced by total garbage. Read the books and stay away from this.

5-0 out of 5 stars A First-Rate Thriller... With a Heart
The premise for this first-rate thriller involves a New York fireman and New York policeman father and son duo who work together to save lives in both the future and the past. FREQUENCY is based on the idea of shifts in reality occurring in the present as a direct result of communications over short wave radio between a police detective here in this present time (Jim Caviezel) and his father in the past (Dennis Quaid) during times of heightened solar flare activity.

This movie works because it is internally consistent, even as it stretches one's concept of what can be possible. I enjoyed watching this movie on several levels, as the father and son get to know each other by talking on a ham radio during a spectacular display of northern lights... and race to stop a killer before he strikes again.

I especially enjoyed the way the police detective in the film describes how it feels to have several different memories after reality shifts.  In one scene, John Sullivan (Jim Caviezel) talks with his dad, Frank Sullivan (Dennis Quaid), on a ham radio. John describes how he recalls both the memories of how his father died in a burning warehouse and also the memories of how his dad rescued a woman and emerged unscathed from that same fire. John says in amazement, "I remember both... at the same time. It's like waking up from a dream and you're not sure what's real. I remember you being here, but I also remember when you weren't."

This film is especially meaningful for anyone seeking insight into that phenomenon when your keys, purse, or sock aren't where you know you left them. The bonus features on this DVD are also highly enjoyable and include excellent scientific commentaries on the subject of solar flares, the aurora borealis, and string theory.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very well-done 80's style time travel movie
In many ways, this movie is a variation of the concept the movie "Back to the Future" explored, with a slightly more deeper focus on the character-relationships between the father and the son character. Perhaps it is the presence of Dennis Quaid that makes it feel like an 80's film. Or maybe it is the changing-past-altering-future time travel concept. Nevertheless, it's a fun concept to explore, the idea of being able to communicate with somebody from the past through a radio, and thus warning that person in the past, thus altering the events of the present. This is basically what happens when John, a police detective, finds himself communicating with his presently dead father in the past through a HAM radio and manages to prevent his death. As a result, it somehow results in a set of serial murders, of which John must try to solve (with a help of his dad). The relationship between the father and son are quite endearing and the mystery thriller and sci-fi elements are an interesting bonus.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Line dropped the ball!!!
All the other reviews will explain the plot etc, what I will say is that It is one of my favorite movies along with my wife's.

It leaves you smiling at the end , One other thing in an Interview Dennis Quaid said New Line dropped the ball because they did not promote it well enough...........I could not agree more.

3-0 out of 5 stars Frequency (2000)
Director: Gregory Hoblit
Cast: Dennis Quaid, Jim Caviezel, Andre Braugher, Elizabeth Mitchell, Noah Emmerich.
Running Time: 118 minutes.
Rated PG-13 for language and violence.

Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel both give fine performances in this quirky science-fiction drama that combines "Back to the Future" and "The Field of Dreams". The film opens in the year 1969, with fire-fighter Dennis Quaid first introducing the game of baseball (specifically the Amazin' Mets of that season) to his son, John. Fast-forward to thirty years later, in which John (Caviezel) is a lonesome, washed-ed ex-college baseball great turned cop who stumbles upon his deceased father's old ham radio.

One night, John uses the radio to connect with a man in the area, later discovering that he is talking to his father in the past. When the father avoids death in a fire that was supposed to take his life, John realizes that he can use this uncanny communication to help him with a serial killer murder case. The two join forces to change the course of history in order to save the lives of the killer's next victims.

Clever premise certainly works for the most part, although there are some twists that do not seem to fit. Hoblit uses the theme of baseball as the connecting link between the father and son, which is an overdone aspect in modern film; however, the script is smart and swift, making "Frequency" a film worth the while.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Miss This One Almost Everyone Including Me Missed
With a little extra spending money I picked up a few DVD's 'to take a chance on', hoping for one gold nugget. Well, this one is just that. I have watched it several times in a few months, and have made a point of lending it out to my friends simply saying 'trust me, you'll enjoy it'. It has come back each time with positive to glowing reviews, and a smile showing each person did enjoy it.
The script is well thought out! Tell me how many times you've watched a movie that seemed to have been roughed out on a napkin the night before they started filming? The story moves forward with... a couple surprises/twists that fit perfectly into the storyline, but doesn't overshadow the identification with and the developement of the characters. Great casting. I have been a Dennis Quaid fans for over a decade, and Jim Cavieziel was a pleasant discovery for me.
I missed this in the theatre. Not too many people went to see it. Man, I might have missed it altogther had I not had a few dollars to spend... and in this case, that would have been a bad thing. You'll enjoy it, trust me. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars can we say Die Hard rip off
holy shiznay in the pants, this one blows, though Kinski's in it she doesnt save it, but shes hot. its a great, great, great crappy Die Hard tip off as Plummer holds up a skitresort and Griffith(not even close to Willis) is the one man army to take them down. how painstakingly chunky and frunky

1-0 out of 5 stars crackerjack or crackerjerk
This film is awful. I love martial arts and was hoping to find some here. Unfortunately no. Thomas Griffin is a horrible actor. His character in this movie is poorly written - as is the movie itself. Perhaps the only redeeming point of the entire film is christopher plummer as the bad guy. Save your money, there are hundreds of better movies out there, including your neighbors summer vacation movies he's been wanting to show you.

1-0 out of 5 stars A LOW RENT DIEHARD
This movie plays out like a very low-rent Diehard. In this case Thomas Ian Griffith is Bruce Willis, Christopher Plummer is Alan Rickman, and Vladimir Kulich (he's the reason that I bothered to watch this film in the first place) is Alexander Gudonov. Instead of a wife, Griffith's character has a brother, sister-in-law, and their newborn child. Nastasja Kinski, the entertainment director at the hotel, turns into a love interest for Griffith's character. Plummer plays a former mob hitman who assembles a band of mercenaries to take over the mountain-top resort where his former mob boss is staying in order to get his hands on a fortune in diamonds belonging to his former boss. In order to cover up their theft, they intend to bring an entire glacial field down on top of the resort to wipe it out. There is a scene in it where Griffith's character is supposed to be making a menacing threat to Plummer, and I swear, Griffith is smirking his way all the way through it. I think that he should go back to the world of soap operas where he came from and maybe get a little more acting experience. The acting in this movie is ... and the storyline is such a lousy ... of Diehard it's hilarious. This movie isn't just bad; it's R-E-A-L-L-Y B-A-D!!! It's the kind of movie that you want to get together with a group of friends to watch so you can sling insults at the screen. It would be perfect for the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 treatment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good action film.
This film moves along well and was alot better then I thought it would be. It is about a cop who goes kinda nuts after his wife and kids are killed. He goes on vacation with his brother and his family. While on this vacation some thiefs take everyone hostage except him. He fights them (kills several) and ends up saving the day. I really liked it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Plots that move in mysterious ways.
FACE DOWN belongs to that class of mystery-suspense stories whose plot leaves you asking, "How did that guy fit in?" That guy is the REAL killer, but nothing in the movie ties him into the action except him's quick character switch. The fun part of this film is watching the other guy, Joe Mantegna, not-too-skilled private eye, get involved with one hot tomato, blonde client too many. You know the saying in Private Eye films when there's murder: "Cherchez le Private Eye." Mantegna was fingered for murder two which fingered him for murder one and he would have been fingered for a couple more murders, but time ran out; the REAL killer gets . . . heh! I can't give the plot away. See the film. It was entertaining and interesting. It will tell you whether Joe gets the girl. I was going to give this movie only 4**** but I gave it 5 because the dialogue didn't use too many cliches and the casting was definitely on track.

4-0 out of 5 stars Too much dialogue..not enough content
Romance movie plus a drama? Nice plot, witty dialogue just short on action. Standouts include a violent bathroom scene involving a talented unknown actor and Ms. Maroney and the evil one played by Adam Ant. Worth a watch

3-0 out of 5 stars so-so mystery movie with far too much dialogue.
For me, there was too much talking and plot to really get into this movie. with a crazy porn lady and a private eye who's "mysteriously" hated by everyone at the police station, one can only suspect that you might need a pillow to withstand this movie. the movie's shining glory, however is the "bad guy" played by adam ant, who is such a good bad guy. it's a shame that his part isn't bigger, but what the heck. ...

You'll enjoy it, trust me. ... Read more
