The award-winning HBO series Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child provides updated cartoon versions of the classics that will hold your kids' attention without banging them on the head with themes. This very sweet version of Pinocchio features a star-studded voice cast, including Will Smith, Chris Rock, Charles S. Dutton, and Della Reese. Although this may make the take sound strictly African American, the spin is decidedly multicultural. Gepetto becomes "George" and Pinocchio, being "chips of pine and oak off the old block" is called "Pinoak." The big spin is on Pinocchio's insect friend, who in this version is a termite named "Woody," played with a rascally style well suited to Chris Rock. If the kid wants you to watch with him or her, you will surely enjoy watching Reese "do her thing," as she says, which is a nifty Motown number called "What's Right What's Wrong." Rock gets his chance to get down with a rap called "No Strings Attached," even if the accompanying break dance is ill served by the rudimentary drawings and movement of the characters. Older viewers may cringe at the crude animation, but it is totally appropriate for its intended audience. The villainy is very low-key so as not to disturb. And the time-honored theme that you can only be a real boy when you learn to tell the truth makes for a story that can only end "happily ever after." --Lloyd Chesley ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Out Of Print Classic!
Right up next to IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN is the other greatest animated Halloween special of all time, GARFIELDS HALLOWEEN ADVENTURE. Tons of laughs from start to finish, Garfield and Odie go out on Halloween night to collect their "candy candy CANDY!" and eventually end up in an abandoned house with a spooky secret. This one has been a family favorite for over many years and it's too bad this is out of print. I hope whoever owns the rights to Garfield will eventually re-release this great classic as well as the other holiday adventures on DVD in the upcoming future. This is a definite MUST for your family if you're lucky enough to find it, as it hasn't been aired on tv for the past couple of years or more. You can find GREAT PUMPKIN as well as Scooby Doo, Pooh & Tigger and even BARNEY Halloween specials...why not this one?

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest cartoon ever!
I just love Garfield and Odie, and John as well. This is the funnest Halloween special I have ever seen. Definitely a favorite of mine to keep forever. I treasure this classic cartoon of an adventurous Halloween night with ghosts and frights, and all the fun and spooky things required for a great Halloween episode. If you can find it, you should buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars "But the one thing I'm not is a scaredy cat..."
This is the second greatest Halloween cartoon special ever (the first being "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown")!!!!! I've been watching it since I was about 2 and I still love it! The songs are excellent and catchy (which reminds me: WHERE'S THE SOUNDTRACK CD?!). It needs to be on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best holiday specials ever!
"Garfield's Halloween Adventure" is one of the best Halloween--or any holiday for that matter--specials ever! It stars Garfield at his greedy, but adorable best, out on the trick-or-treat adventure of a lifetime with his faithful canine sidekick, Odie. It's one of those stories that is fun to watch anytime of the year, but especially at Halloween. The story is great and it's a shame it's not on TV anymore. So, if you love Garfield, Halloween or just a good cartoon special, this one is sure to please both kids and adults alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic. Should be on DVD!!
This is absolutely a holiday classic. I can still remember looking forward all October to when this would be shown on TV. Unfortunately it seems to have fallen off the yearly Halloween programming schedule. What makes matters worse is the inability to purchase a new copy of it. Video distribution of this (and the other Garfield adventures) is handled by Fox Television. I encourage you to do as I have: email/write/call Fox and demand that they release these staples of holiday traditions on DVD! There is no reason why they should fall by the wayside. Kids growing up today should be able to enjoy these as we all once did (and still do). ... Read more

Creativity oozes from this rollicking rhymefest, an animated retellingof some well-loved classic nursery rhymes. The 30-minute rappin' romp is part ofthe Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child series. A star-studded cast of celebrities lend their voices, including Whoopi Goldberg, JimmySmits, and Denzel Washington. The merriment takes place in Mother GoosebergLand, where Old King Cole reigns over the likes of Little Miss Muffet, GeorgiePorgie, and the rest of the gang who take their poetic direction from the granddame of rhyme herself, Mother Gooseberg. Yet all is not well in the land ofmake-believe. Seems that Mother Gooseberg wants to retire from her life ofrhyme, due to a litany of complaints from the villagers. Jack is upset becauseof repeated head injuries from falling down the hill (he laments, "When Jill andI fall down the hill, look what happens to our medical bill"). The Crooked Manwants to straighten up, and Little Bo Peep has grown indifferent toward lostsheep. Add to that King Cole's distress when Mother Gooseberg suddenly calls amoratorium on rhyming--"For a kingdom used to rhyming in verse, the situation isgrowing worse!" he cries.

Kudos to the film's producers for representingseveral races and cultures through its animated characters. And while kids willbe captivated by the fast-moving tale, adults will smile at the clever humordirected at them, such as when Humpty Dumpty proclaims his name change to "TheEgg Formerly Known as Dumpty." 3-0 out of 5 stars Waiting Happily Ever After..
This was a gift for my three year old nephew, who has a great attention span for videos. He sat through a portion of the tape, looked at me and said..."I don't get it". Neither did I at first (I wasn't exactly jumping out my seat). I think it was to many stories tied into one for a three year old. We'll shelf it for now and give it ago at four. Otherwise, the series is a wonderful twist to nursey rhymes!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best.....
This is one of the best videos I have purchased for my child, age 2 1/2 years old. Not only does it entertain her; it teaches nursery rhymes. My husband and I enjoy it so that it's become a favorite when other adults come over. It's a must have for any child in this age of rap music. It's rap in a positive way.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Twist On Old Stories
This tape took me a minute to get it but once I did, it was really, really cute. The voices of Whoppie Goldberg, Jimmy Smits & others makes it so very interesting for my kids. They love this tape. I ordered the 4 tape package & this one was in the set. This is the better deal. ... Read more

A simple chore of chopping trees turns into a life lesson for a trio of peasant brothers in this fresh take on a classic tale as part of the Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child series. Drexel, Axel, and Simpleton are three strapping boys who live with their father and mother in a small kingdom. When father sends the older sons to clear the forest, they encounter a wizard--dressed as a beggar--who asks them for some food. When they brush him aside, their selfishness reaps immediate and painful consequences. Then it's Simpleton's turn to venture into the forest. He, too, encounters the beggar and responds to his plea with generosity. Rewarding Simpleton for his small act of kindness, the beggar gives him a golden goose whose feathers bring good fortune. Meanwhile, a short distance away, the king is distressed because his daughter the princess "had not laughed, chuckled, giggled, or even cracked a smile" for years. It is no surprise that the golden goose plays a part in bringing together the man and the maiden to live happily ever after. Yet first, Simpleton must meet the king's improbable conditions for marriage. Woven throughout this simple tale are subtle messages of the benefits of faith and kindness in everyday living, best understood by children ages 4 and older. --Lynn Gibson ... Read more

In this astonishingly star-studded animated version of the traditionaltale, Goldilocks (Raven-Symone of TV's The Cosby Show) is a black girlfrom a tropical village whose way of life boils down to doing what she wantswithout thinking of the consequences. She gets her customary comeuppance, ofcourse, but not before she has incriminated her fellow students for somethingshe did and alienated all her friends. As she wanders through the forest playinghooky, she meets a spider (Jenifer Lewis), a snake (Ben Vereen), and a bat (LouRawls) who warn her in song, but the musical trio cannot divert her from herfateful encounter with the three bears (Tone Loc, Alfre Woodard, David AlanGrier). This 25-minute production narrated by Robert Guillaume has a Caribbeanflavor to its music, background, and references. This updated version of Hans Christian Andersen's classicThumbelina is set by a river in a rain forest in South America. Achildless woman prays every day to be blessed with a child. One day, a rareexotic flower floats down the river. Wrapped in its beautiful leaves isThumbelina, a child no bigger than the woman's thumb. The woman rejoices in heranswered prayers. As Thumbelina grows older (not taller), she yearns to "have anadventure." And what an adventure this street-smart, strong girl ends up having- -she is kidnapped by an overzealous mother frog, swept away by floodwaters, andset to marry a sinister bat prince. Rescued and returned to her mother,Thumbelina learns the power of love and friendship, and that appearances aren'talways what they seem.

Originally produced for HBO, this version ofThumbelina is multicultural and modern. Narration by Robert Guillaume andthe voice talents of Rosie Perez as Thumbelina are wonderful additions. Thisversion has fun with the culture (example: Thumbelina's bed is an avocado)Viewers can also learn Spanish names for things as they go along on Thumbelina'srain-forest adventure. Muy bueno! Good for children 3 and older, but one thewhole family will enjoy. --Peggy Maltby-Etra ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still magical
As a long-time Petula fan, I must say I was a little perturbed by some of the comments above on Pet's unkempt appearance and trouble reaching high notes. After watching this concert, the verdict is... I agree. Some of those outfits are really ugly, especially that gold lame number which is way too big on her. And what's with the false eyelashes? They are so thick she can hardly keep her eyes open!

But... on the plus side, Pet still has that magic that has endeared her to millions of fans around the world. I also bought the CD of this concert and when you listen to that, you don't hear the strain in her voice that for some reason is evident when you watch the video. Her renditions of the songs from Les Miz,and Blood Brothers are superb. And by the way, who is the idiot that decided to leave out her incredible rendition of "With One Look" from Sunset Boulevard?? This is outrageous, considering that it IS included on the CD of the same concert.

All in all, get this DVD, by all means, the extras included are a treasure you don't want to miss.

3-0 out of 5 stars I Couldn't Live without Pet, but...
Unfortunately, the concert portion of this DVD is almost painful to watch. Pet seems to be struggling with her notes on many of her 60's classics (although she hits the high notes on such Broadway fare as "Tell Me it's Not True" without breaking a sweat), and this distressing performance is only exacerbated by her shockingly unkempt appearance. Straggly hair, unflattering makeup, and the ugliest costumes ever to grace a major celebrity stand in stark contrast to the svelte, swingin' Pet of the Sixties that we see in cruelly contrasting footage.

On the plus side, this DVD features a fascinating documentary on Pet's life and career, which is endlessly entertaining. Also, the bonus FULL LENGTH clips from "The Ed Sullivan Show," "The Hollywood Palace" and Pet's own TV specials are worth the price of the DVD alone. Now, that's what we'd really love to see: a collection of Pet's classic performances from those great variety shows of yore.

Petula can still dredge up her old power and clarity, on record and in person. Sadly, when this concert was recorded, she was not at the top of her form. Buy this DVD for the "extras."

5-0 out of 5 stars A joy for any Petula Fan
For any of the negative remarks anyone has said about this you have to ask yourself, "When will you ever get another chance to own a copy of Petula Clark in concert?" But, it is more than just a "no other choice" option, it is a fine piece of entertainment. I certainly do not accept Petula is not in fine form--both body and voice. The way she sings her songs during the concert are not carbon copies of the 60's originals played on the radio or on your "Greatest Hits" CD, but are performed wonderfully nonetheless, and a couple even better than the originals. The old clips from television appearances are great during the segment about her life, and I enjoyed the cutting in of a clip of Petula singing her songs during the 60's during the concert; it was a nice comparative glimpse. And rather than showing any voice deterioration it proves that she still has that strong, pure voice that made her world famous. If you like Pet, get it and enjoy it for whatever it is worth.

5-0 out of 5 stars PETULA SANG AS A CHILD IN WARTIME LONDON/WWII---WOW:)
I SPENT TODAY WATCHING AND RE-WATCHING PETULA...I FELT LIKE I WAS BACK AT PICADILLY SQUARE.

GREAT ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE, AND PHOTOS FROM HER CHILDHOOD AS A STAR SINGING IN WWII WARTIME LONDON.

PET HAD HER FIRST BIG CHART SONG APPROX 1954 IN THE UK--PRIOR TO "DOWNTOWN" IN THE USA/1964.

THIS DVD EXHIBITS OVER 50 YEARS OF A CAREER SPANNING SEVERAL CONTINENTS AND BELOVED FANS WORLDWIDE.

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR HER RENDITION OF "SUNSET BOULEVARD" WHICH SHE PERFORMED ON BROADWAY FOR I THINK 9 MONTHS IN THE STATES.

PET ALSO SANG TO WWII SOLDIERS TO BOLSTER THEIR SPIRITS--- BEFORE MOST OF US LEARNED OF HER IN 1964. I WAS 13 WHEN I FIRST HEARD "DOWNTOWN" AND DREAMED OF THE FUN IN LARGE CITIES LIKE TIMES SQUARE, BRITISH PHONE BOOTHS IN PICADILLY SQUARE AND DOUBLE DECKER BUSES:)

LOTS OF FUN LOOKING BACK AT THOSE BRITISH "BRITTANIA" LOGOS (REMEMBER THE "PATCHED/QUILTED JEANS" WE WORE:) AND THE "BRITTANIA" T-SHIRTS AND LOGOS ON ALL SORTS OF LATE SIXTIES AND SEVENTIES MERCHANDISE?:)

PET HAS A NEW COMPILATION OUT 4/15/03....I THINK THIS MAY BE THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION:) I LOCATED IT AT BN BUT NOT AMZ.COM?

REMEMBER, PETULA APPEARED IN "FINIANS RAINBOW" AND "GOODBYE MR. CHIPS" WITH PETER O'TOOLE ....HOPE BOTH MOVIES ARE PUT ON DVD:)

THANKS PET FOR ALL THE JOY AND HAPPINESS YOU HAVE GIVEN THE WORLD AND NOW AGAIN ON DVD:)

4-0 out of 5 stars sort of nice
The concert portion was filmed at the Virginia Arts Festival in Norfolk in 2001, apparently for PBS (although I have never seen it on our PBS station). Petula was born before WWII, so many who remember her from the 60's will be dismayed or shocked at her current style of clothes and hair. I wish there were more of her great songs on the concert portion. As some of the background indicated, she has a distinctive voice and one would instantly recognize who was singing if one closed their eyes. She sings some songs with Lou Rawls and Richard Carpenter but otherwise she sings her trademark songs, with orchestra and choral backing. There are some very nice background pieces in the supplemental information, and clips from appearances on TV programs in the 60's and 70's, and a complete listing of her works through 2001. In her concert presentation, close your eyes and the words seamlessly blend into clips from the past, although your ears will tell a change in the quality of the sound. If you are a fan of Petula, you will probably appreciate this update to her career. If only for the music, then check out some of her released material for perhaps better sounding music, and perhaps older material. After listening to the DVD, I popped a vinyl record of her songs that I had in the 1960's, and relived some memories. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars easily, one of the best performances, best films, don't resist
it's been a long time, since i've bothered to write a review, seems these days, movies are all so, normal, nothing unique about them, it's sad really, this film, is unique, I relate this film to scarface, as well as blowing me away, ving rhames, makes you believe he is the great don himself, he took on the mob, and he lived, and he killed a man, and beat it, then he killed another, and he got misdeamanor, the man is a icon, one of the greatest showboats, to have ever lived, he's also very intelligent, and it's true, he shouldn't have got such a bad rep, but baby, that sells, violence, sex, crime, it all sells, the media, you know, this film is a 100 stars, if you don't see this, then I pity you, if you say this movie is ..., like reviewer number one, then your an ..., this film is brilliant, a masterpiece, this film is also almost out of print, obviously, like divinci, a true artist, isn't respected till he is gone, wan't a real world example? look at tupac shakur, when don is gone, no one will ever be like him again, so relish, his kinglyness, and buy this video, before it is, to late.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Very Crap Film
Oh my God!!! Do not waste your time watching this awful movie with which has an even more awful cast...I think that one star is really pushing it as the film was so bad that I switched it off less than half way through. I am a great boxing fan and would normally love to watch any movie, BUT, I draw the line when the movie is so bad that you actually wish that you hadn't wasted your time watching it and would rather go to the denstist and have all your teeth removed with the use of acid (and that is without painkillers)... An awful movie that is not even worth a star - I just wish that it could be given a minus number it is honestly that bad!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I could give this movie 10 stars.
I have never seen a movie where the main character was portrayed with this kind of realism. I thought it actually WAS Don King the first time I saw this movie. Ving Rhames should have won Oscars, Emmys, and every kind of conceivable award for his portrayal of Don King. I mean he even has the voice inflections and mannerisms of Don King down to such a science it is unreal. I have never seen an actor portray anyone that well. I wish I could give this movie 10 stars. Ving Rhames IS Don King, from beginning to end. The man should have won an Oscar and an Emmy. I can't emphasize ENOUGH how well Ving Rhames plays Don King. I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ving Rhames IS Don King
Only in America could a small time numbers runner-con man from Cleaveland make it from a prison cell to being the most powerful man in the richest of sports...Don King is simply put the greatest promoter of all time and even in his seventies the man just flat out controls most of the strings of the sport. Ving Rhames becomes the character as we follow his trials and tribulations, and in a cool piece of screenplay, Don talks to the audience and himself explains what is going on in his life as he makes his way to the top, mowing away all opposition especially Bob Arum. Things still havent changed as he promotes most of the top players in boxing today, and will do so until he dies, if the man is not immortal.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT FILM
Ving Rhames should have gotten every award in 97 for this Gem.He was DON KING&that isn't easy.DOn King is One OF Sports Most Interesting People Ever.He was Marketing Product Long Before People had a Term for it.He Understood what worked for whomever was His Fighter at the Moment was.He said it best if their wasn't a Him they Hollywood would have too Create One.Love Him or Loath Him You Have Too Acknowledge His Impact on Society.Just the Electric Chair Hair Alone. The FIlm had a Solid Cast Very Well Done. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wildly Available (see the unrated version if you can)
Caught this title at a film festival. Very under-rated film I thought it a mini classic. Well made and thought provoking. Should be seen.

4-0 out of 5 stars An unsually well done sexually explicit movie
Even the love-making scenes in this movie are nuanced and very real, as between men and women who have complex feelings and yearnings and find it shocking when they are able to give expression to them. The story is strange and at times morally disturbing because there is betrayal but mainly from genuine bafflement with one's responses to the world. I would buy this except for its very high price.

1-0 out of 5 stars ...
If my title, while true, attracted you to this rotten film, turn off the TV, go outside, and play. Kaczmarek really slums here as a suffering wife whose husband gets involved in a hot little blonde number who is into S&M. The blonde, played by Sommerfield, is too pretty to have the humiliation heaped on her here in the name of sexual obsession. I really wish actors and actresses would stop making junk like this and work on their craft. There is no redeeming qualities here except for some good performances amid the dulling sex and nudity. I think "Wildly Available" tries to pass itself off as an independent film when, in fact, it is just desperate and sad.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great film
I saw the film and i was deeply attracted by It.The detailed motion and it's close to life made me like it immediately.I don't know how to express my feeling well, but i guess every person when saw it will think it worth their time to thinking and have good feeling.

The Frog Prince is a classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale about a spoiled princess who learns the true meaning of friendship. What's different about this production is its ethnic perspective. Narrator Robert Guillaume and voice talents Sinbad and Danny Glover speak in a folksy, ethnic dialect that lends a whole new perspective to the story. The animation, too, has an ethnic slant, with the main characters portrayed almost as caricatures.

Princess Ebony has everything a princess could possibly want, but longs for some subservient, worshipful friends her own age. King Niger attempts to pacify his daughter by constructing a nugget court (a game that bears some resemblance to rugby) and bequeathing her a golden nugget ball that's been in the family for generations. The game entertains the princess for a while, but when the Jester challenges the Princess to a real game, she throws a tantrum and loses her valuable ball down a deep well. When an idiosyncratic frog offers to retrieve the lost ball in return for her friendship, the Princess agrees, but has absolutely no intention of keeping her promise. King Niger learns of his daughter's unfulfilled promise, realizes how spoiled and self-centered she has become, and vows to remedy the situation by insisting that she honor her promise to the frog. The princess endures the frog's company for a day, and is driven to a desperate act, the results of which teach her the true meaning of friendship and humility. For a very different look at this same classic tale, try the non-animated Frog King in the From the Brothers Grimm series by Tom Davenport. (Ages 3 and older) --Tami Horiuchi ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars I can't belive this.
When I read a book, then go to see the movie, I try to forget the novel, and not see the differences between the book and the movie, but this movie, with the book or not is hands down one of the worst horror films ever.

The special effects are horrible, and sometimes the fight/killing scenes are boring because this movie was so low budjet. And If you have read this novel, and want to see the movie just because the book was great, and you soppose that the movie will be as well...ITS NOT please don't even waste your time on this. I got this movie for free, but I'm still mad because it is a waste of my valuable time!

Differences between this and the book are too much to handle, they shouldn't even put Based on a novel by Dean Koontz, because this was nothing at all like the novel. I've seen movies based on novels before, and they had some resemblence to the novel, but this didn't AT ALL. If you have read the book I'll tell you now TRAVIS & NORA don't exist..they never get married, they never change their names, they never run off the northern California. the only things that are the same between this and this novel are Eienstein, and the Outsider...the main character is not as lovable as Travis, in fact the main character is quite annoying, and I had to sigh at some of stupid things he said. Besides Eienstein, and The Outsider there is NOTHING ELSE similar to the novel.

Watchers Reborn starts off with a dog, Eienstein, and a monster, The Outsider, escaping from a labratory...the dog is found that same day in the hills by a Detective Cop. The Outsider killes several people on his way out...Eienstien, and the Detective are not friends from the biggining, in fact, the detective shoo's him away several times, before he takes him into his home. The Detective, finds out that the dog, Eienstein is super-smart because the dog brings him a turkey sandwitch. The Detective finds out that a attractive scientist is looking for the dog because she feels that the dog is in grave danger. When the Scientist, and the Detective meet, they needless to say fall in love.

If that plot interests you then I don't hold you back from purchasing this film, but if it already sound corny...back away from it...

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesom
I do not care what anyone says. This and the other Watchers movies before this rocked! I saw the movies first then read the book. Without a doubt Watchers Reborn is the best Watchers film. Do not listen to anyone about these movies. Go watch them even if you have read the book. Besides, I have never seen a movie that was exactly based on the book. Watchers is the best series ever!

1-0 out of 5 stars BORING...
HOW MANY TIMES ARE THEY GOING TO KILL OFF THE OUTSIDER? I THINK THEY OUGHT TO JUST STICK TO THE ORIGINAL AND MAKE IT A 4 TO 6 HOUR MOVIE WITH ALL THE DETAILS OF THE BOOK AND LEAVE OUT ALL THIS EXTRA GARBAGE.

1-0 out of 5 stars WATCHER ,PLEASE BE REBORN!
I'd seen thw previous film episodes, though I cannot understand why soo many spawn inferior sequel/prequel incarnations to a hit when this movie included falter on soo many levels. Mark Hamill starred in and co-produced what is a boring film from start to finnish and should be banished unless youre a fan of Mr Hamill's give it a rental viewing first before buying, dissapoitns more than one can say, JUDGE FOR SELF!

4-0 out of 5 stars A must-see for Mark Hamill fans
if you like scary movies then this one is for you!! Dont let Watchers fool you because Watchers Reborn rocks!! It stars Mark Hamill, Lisa Wilcox(Nightmare On ELm Street) and a cameo by Kane Hodder(Jason Voorhees). It is definitly a must-see if your a Mark fan!! He plays a cop and plays it very very well!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Wildly Available
A very erotic movie for those interested in exploring the S&M scene. Not overtly strong in content, but a very good example of "play". It's well worth a look. ... Read more

In this animated version of the classic fairy tale, narrated by Robert Guillaume, Rapunzel has the misfortune of being born to a humble couple living next door to an evil "hoodoo diva" (Whoopi Goldberg) in New Orleans. When Dad (Meshach Taylor) gets caught sneaking some rapunzel herb from the wicked Zenobia's garden for his pregnant wife's jambalaya, he makes a deal with the diva that forfeits their right to the baby if it's a girl. So Rapunzel--named after the herb that announced her fate--goes to live next door, only to be imprisoned in a tower and forced to answer the command "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair, girl." That is, until she is romanced and eventually rescued by a prince, making for the kind of ending that gives the HBO multicultural series its title of "Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child." Embellished by song and humor, this series will entertain ages 3 and older as well as adults. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

The story is familiar: A wealthy merchant has a daughter named Beauty. After a blinding sandstorm hits, causing the man to lose his way, he stumbles upon an enchanted castle that is owned by the angry Beast. This grotesque creature has an offer for the man: The Beast will keep the man or the man's daughter as his captive to live in the castle. Beauty, not wanting her father to be locked away, agrees to the offer, and only she can see past the Beast's rough exterior to his kind heart. This is an updated version of a classic fairy tale with an ethnic twist. It brings home the lesson that inner beauty has more importance than outward appearances. Featuring the vocal talents of Robert Guillaume, Vanessa Williams, and Gregory Hines, the film contains two upbeat songs, "Could She, Would She, Will She" and "Wave Good-bye." A fun and vibrant rendition with an engaging script, this short originally appeared on HBO's Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child series, which promoted topnotch storytelling to reach children of all backgrounds. For ages 4 to 9, but adults will be entertained as well. --Peggy Maltby-Etra ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's better than you think
I don't know who reviewed this video for Amazon, but they didn't pay very close attention to the ending. There's no housekeeper, there's no keys to the kingdom, and Beauty and the former Beast don't live forever. However, the narrator does say that Beauty's father comes to live with them, the former Beast is a prince, and they all live happily ever after. This version of Beauty and the Beast isn't as beautiful a movie as Disney's, but it's a lot closer to the original story. The songs are a lot of fun, the Beast's servants are pretty funny, and the Beast himself has a great sense of humor.

3-0 out of 5 stars Update the cast list!
This wasn't the best movie ever made, but it wasn't terrible, either. Amazon.com, you need to update your cast list! Vanessa Williams was the voice of Beauty, Gregory Hines was the voice of the Beast, Paul Winfield was the voice of Beauty's father, and Debbie Allen was the voice of her sister, Precious. If you're wondering what Robert Guillame's role was, he was the narrator! I think the person who was the voice of her brother, Tree, was named something like Treat Williams. Whoever did the cast list for this movie needs to pay better attention to the closing credits! ... Read more

This installment in HBO's Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales for Every Child series shifts the familiar Grimm story to Latin America. Instead of asking, "Nibble, nibble like a mouse, who's been nibbling at my house?" the Witch says, "Qué pasa, qué pasa, someone's nibbling on my casa!" The half-hour show boasts simple, appealing character designs with dark skin and black hair, and bright watercolor backgrounds. Voice actors Christopher Montoya and Chrissy Padilla make Hanselito and Gretelita appealing, resourceful children: When they're caught by the Witch, Hanselito offers to work to pay for what they've eaten off her house. Rosie Perez clearly enjoys herself as the Witch, "Susannah from Havana," half-speaking, half-singing a mixture of English and Spanish. Her mini-production number with Tito Larriva is the high point of the story. The filmmakers don't shy away from the ending: Gretelita shoves the Witch into the oven. But it's done in a comic way that removes any feeling of violence. The animation and Liz Torres's vocal performance are so over the top, the Stepmother feels nastier than the Witch. But small children are more likely to focus on the bright colors and upbeat song than on nuances of character. (Ages 5 and older) --Charles Solomon ... Read more

I watched this film with an open mind having seen LeBlanc in Friends & Lost in Space. I was very pleasantly suprised to see what a talented actor he actually is. He showed a full range of acting skills & made the character of Anthony appealing, he could have failed & just made him obnoxius. The plot is good, characters strong & the film enjoyable. Glad I bought it.

Actor Robert Guillaume (Benson) narrates this classic tale about an Emperor so obsessed with his clothing that he fails to perceive the problems facing his empire. When a pair of swindlers in a nearby town learn of the Emperor's fixation on fashion, the pair tricks the Emperor into giving them his country's fortune in return for the promise of a very special birthday suit made from the "fabric of dreams." Meanwhile, the Emperor's brother, Akira, struggles to keep the empire functioning in the face of great flooding and famine with virtually no monetary resources. When Akira is banished from the Empire for declaring his brother a fool for squandering funds on clothing, the Empire's future looks grim. The Emperor's birthday suit turns out to be much, much less than he had hoped for, but the truthful words of one young boy provide the town with the gift of laughter and the promise of better days ahead. The entire series of "Fairy Tales For Every Child" is a wonderful addition to our video library. My children really enjoyed this movie. It was a blessing for them to see other nationalities that reflects her environment she can relate to in fairytales, instead of the traditional fairytales with only white faces.
