5-0 out of 5 stars MITCHUM IS MARLOWE
Director Richard Rush presented us a valentine with this incredible film, the third version made from the the 1940 Raymond Chandler novel. At least seven actors have portrayed Philip Marlowe. Robert Mitchum, played the part twice. The first time, in this film, he was nothing short of brilliant; just world-weary, battered, meloncholy, and tough enough to spark this tale into a full flame. His voice-over narrative hit perfect pitch; all gravel, too many smokes, and cheap booze. Mitchum, himself the veteran of several Noir classics, played the gumshoe as comfortable as one's favorite overcoat; a perfect fit. He shuffled lazy-lidded yet irascible and alert, as ready for a sap behind the ear, as he was to be the recipient of the sexual energy radiated off of Charlotte Rampling as Helen, the femme. She, likewise, postured perfectly in the Noir 1940's clothes and hairstyles. John Alonzo, fresh from shooting CHINATOWN, presented us with an LA bathed in just the right mix of golden light and shadow. Jerry Goldsmith delivered another spectacular score, overlapping jazz, blues, and swing, underscoring the action and dialogue masterfully. John Ireland, also a veteran of classic Noir, Anthony Zerbe, and Harry Dean Stanton gave tremendous support with their roles. There was even a couple of glimpses of Sly Stallone ( pre-ROCKY ) as a viscious punk. Some of the critics felt that this lush color film had to try too hard for that Noir feel. I disagree. This movie is a modern Noir classic, even in living color.

3-0 out of 5 stars Movie Transcends the Material
The photography is perfect, the score is magnificent. Robert Mitchum was made to play a middle aged Philip Marlowe, and his voice over has all the weariness and angst the most die hard noir fan could ask for. The mid-30's sets are impeccable. So what is there to complain about? I think the culprit is Raymond Chandler.

One of the most quotable of the hard-boiled writers, his writing sang but his plots were so convoluted, the reader needs a scorecard to keep track of the story. Marlowe is hired by ex-con Moose Malloy to find his elusive love Velma. Until the bloody finale, that was the last time I was clear about the action.

I commend all the actors for delivering fine performances, particularly Sylvia Myles who played the hopeless alcoholic, Mrs. Florian. She was piercingly pathetic as a nice girl who couldn't quite believe she was a middle-aged drunk. Robert Mitchum allowed merciless lighting that occasionally made him look like a guy who has had one too many face-lifts.

This film version of "Farewell My Lovely" is probably as good as it gets. I recommend "Out of the Past" for Mitchum and noir fans.

3-0 out of 5 stars The sets look really cheap.
'Farewell, My Lovely' is a likable detective film, but the sets look really cheap and fake. I didn't get the feeling I was back in Los Angeles in the 1930s; I felt like I was looking at a set that was trying to look like Los Angeles in the 30s. Robert Mitchum is alright, but he is a little too old.

5-0 out of 5 stars "New" Old Time Detective Thriller
To many of the reviews I've read rave on about Ms. Rampling, and while she is good in her small role, this is a Robert Mitchum Movie, and he is very good in it.....

Actually, if it was B&W you'd look at it like an old Bogie film like "The Big Sleep",or any one of a dozen classic detective flix.....

Anyway, I happen to get my hands on one of the rare DVD's and it was in great shape. But it's the story...this is one of those films you get to watch 5 times before you actually follow everything that's going on......

I truly enjoyed it, and you will too.

5-0 out of 5 stars the spirit is dead on
purists might debate whether the deviancies from the novel are to positive or detrimental effect, but Mitchum captures Marlowe in a casual and powerful way. the entire Chandler spirit is kept faithfully intact, creatively filled out by excellent lighting & cinemetography, keeping the viewer involved in the neo-noir attitude as if the film was actually made in 1941.

the anne riordan character is replaced by a newspaper hawker who is a little out of place and unexplained, but perhaps charlotte rampling was all the femme fatale they could afford so...better just hire some young kid to float the story.

jack o'halloran is truly believable as moose malloy, and sylvester stallone performs some of his finest work. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Disney's Lost Treasure...
Dear Amazon: I'm trying to find a copy of this Disney Classic. I saw the film in '76 when it was first released theatrically. This film is funny, thrilling, and extremely entertaining for the entire family. I hope it's re-released on video soon...

4-0 out of 5 stars One of Disney's best kept (Treasures)
I cant believe this film is out of print. If anyone can find a copy floating around a video store - BUY IT! This is a perfect example of a great live disney film. The cast as an ensemble is even better. And the late Joan Hackett is outstanding, warm, and very funny as Lauriette. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really funny, Tim Curry and Annie Potts are fantastic
I love this movie!!! Although it is not available to buy got to you local video store and rent this. Tim Curry as Rev. Ray Porter is wonderful. The "I can feel the Devil behind me" scene with Curry is not to missed. Also Annie Potts is very funny in this. I highly recommend this movie!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Unforgettable...
I just can't say just how very much I like this movie. Recently purchased on auction I keep watching this one over and over again. I don't want to give away all the details but the Reverend Ray Porter (Tim Curry) and his wife Darla (Annie Potts) operate a TV ministry getting rich off of their viewers. Bill Paxton enters the scene to recover his girlfriend's (Linda Kozlowski) $50,000. The spectacular ending is just not to be believed!

1-0 out of 5 stars Unconsionable
The only reason I purchased this video was because I'm a fan of Annie Potts. But even her talent is not enough to redeem "Pass the Amo".

This movie is supposedly a "comedy" that parodies television evangelism. Instead, it is an ultra-violent mess of a movie where the "heroes" brandish guns and threaten to kill innocent people if the crooked ministry does not return $50,000 of money which was wrongly donated to the church.

The "heroes" succeed in retrieving their money as well as exposing the corrupt ministry. But is the end supposed to justify the means? I believe that this movie sends a horrible message that violence pays off. Our real world is threatened daily by Al Qaida and other terrorists groups. Gun-related murders and other crimes committed with guns are still rampant in our society. Yet this movie seems to glorify violence rather than condemn it.

I am NOT an anti-NRA person. Most gunowners are responsible, law-abiding people. But the message that "Pass the Amo" so disturbingly conveys is that violence does have its own rewards. That message is not only in poor taste, it's downright unconsionable. Audiences should pass on "Pass the Amo".

4-0 out of 5 stars Forget the ammo, pass the laughs.
An early Bill Paxton move that is on my list of movies I never saw enough of. Tim Curry's rendition of the televangelist who's name escapes me is classic (it is my favorite Curry role).
Favorite lines from this one:

one cop: "Let's rush 'em, all they've got are pistols."
another cop: "You ever been shot with a pistol?"

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
Director David Beaird clearly knows how to draw the most out of his actors, because this is just one of those movies that could have been stupid under the helm of someone who wasn't a genius at making the best out of what he had to work with. It works really well. I loved it and will watch it a couple more times. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable!
Robert Blake is cute as a button in this film! He's sexy with that ever-present unlit cigarette either dangling from his lips or being held in his hand. His wit is charming, too! In one scene, he and Elliott Gould's characters are undercover in a gay bar and they decide they'd better dance together so as to not blow their cover; after a few moments of slow dancing Robert quips something about "hey, I think I'm starting to like this..."! Cute movie with a lot of action.

2-0 out of 5 stars "Busting" is a bust
This 1974 starts off well with a [good] scene in the dentist's office, but it's downhill from there. The theme seems to be that the system doesn't work, but the film's makers don't carry it off very well. Allen Garfield is good as the bad guy, but you have to be a devoted Elliot Gould or Robert Blake fan in order to enjoy the film. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great movie!!!
This movie stands the test of time. I remember seeing this movie on the big screen when I was little.I was so moved by young Larry Fishburn performance that I found myself crying right along with him during the big tearjerking scene. So much talent even at that young age of 12. It's hard to believe that the sweet kid in "Cornbread Earl and Me" grew up to be the mean Ike Turner in "What's Love Got To Do With It"! One of my favorite movies as a child, "Cornbread Earl and Me" is now one of my children's favorite. The teenagers love it for the violence( angry mob attacks cops, woman gets 'pimp slap' in the face by crooked cop, ... etc.) but I like it because of the beautiful touching story. Buy it, you wont be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've seen this movie years ago,and i luv it !!
This movie was so touching, to where its not even funny, and whats so sad about it is that, the same things that happened in the movie is happening in real life as i speak..its funny people can change..but not the polices..

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb !!!!!!
I remember when I had saw this movie when I was a little girl and I had saw it on BET last year this is a great movie it is sad but it is still good I enjoyed this movie and I would recommend anyone who enjoys blaxploitation movies would enjoy this movie this is a great film about a little boy and his friend Cornbread he was a great basketball player and he had just recieved a scholarship to go to a college to play basketball and had dreams of becoming a pro- basketball player and one day a white cop accidentally shoots him and he dies and a big contorversy stirs in this small towm and causes havoc and trouble for everyone and really takes a toll on his friend and
makes it hard for him to cope with his loss but eventually things get better and then he goes on with his life but he never forget about his friend "Cornbread" . This is a touching heartwarming film that would make you just want to cry so therefore when you watch this movie be sure to have some tissue on hand. I would recommend anyone who is fond of dramas to purchse this video!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good film about the importance of friendship and manhood
Aw later for you, Leonard Maltin! This movie is GREAT! This is an important story about friendship and manhood. Young Larry Fishburne's admiration of "Cornbread" rings true with any child who had an older friend to admire as a role model. But the outstanding part is where Fish's mother (Rosalind Cash) tells Fishburne to go to the courtroom stand and BE A MAN and not to be intimidated into giving false testimony of Cornbread's death at the hands of the police as the other witnesses were! This scene borught tears to my eyes and a "standing-o" from the audience I saw it with. This scene alone, with the message it gives to young people about integrity, is worth the price of admission alone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Film

2-0 out of 5 stars Walking Small
The original "Walking Tall", despite its low budget, was highly entertaining and commercially successful. The cast was very strong (particularly Baker and Hartman), the script was sound, and the direction was good. However, this sequel was shot by a different studio, with acting, direction, and script which were glaringly inferior to the original. Joe Don Baker wisely declined to reprise his role as Buford, so the part went to Bo Svenson, who doesn't possess the acting skill required for a deodorant commercial, and proves it by delivering a typically rotten performance. He is so bad in his role as the sheriff that one almost cheers for the villains, in the hope that someone will get this clown off the screen, and rescue viewers from further boredom. In fact, Svenson should have been arrested for attempting to impersonate an actor.

After the initial film, there was really very little story left to tell, so it isn't long before this film bogs down quite badly, sorely testing the endurance of the viewer. As entertainment, it is a complete waste of time for all but the most entertainment-starved viewer; however, as a shining example of cinematic incompetence on all levels, it is a masterpiece. Unfortunately, though, this is not as bad as it gets - there is an even worse sequel ("Final Chapter"), which almost makes this one look good by comparison.

2-0 out of 5 stars Part 2 Walking Tall
"Walking Tall" was a big sleeper hit in 1973,making around 40 million dollars at the box office.Adjusted for inflation that translates to around 100 million in today's dollars. That is considered a legitimate blockbuster by Hollywood's standards. Not bad for a low budget movie with no big stars from a small independent studio. Buford Pusser said in an interview that his "only criticism of "Walking Tall" was that it wasn't violent enough".That's saying something.Pusser served three two year terms as sheriff from 1964 to 1970,"Part 2 Walking Tall" (as it was originally called, now it's Walking Tall 2,big difference)takes up where the first one left off.Part 2 covers perhaps a year in the Sheriff's life.I first saw Part 2 in the theatre when it first came out in the summer of 1975(the summer when "Jaws" first came out) and I'm sorry to say I was disappointed in this followup.Bo Svenson took over the role of Sheriff Pusser, after Joe Don Baker decided it would be better not to play the part for a second time.At 6ft.5in.Svenson physically looked more like the actual Buford Pusser but I didn't think he was nearly as good in the role.Joe Don Baker who is a mere 6ft.2in.(however he still walks tall),and hails from Texas and went to the prestigious Actor's Studio,is a fine actor and he gave a powerful, emotionally charged performance in the first film that is sadly lacking in Part 2.Also,Part 2 had a different writer,a different director, even a different studio(the studio which released the first film called Cinerama Releasing, unfortunately went out business the year before),American International Pictures released Part 2.American International went under back in the early '80's,after 25 years in the movie business. The first film had a more adult R rating.Part 2 was considerably toned down compared to the first film,it was only PG.Part 2 plays more like a luke warm '70's style TV movie.Bo Svenson played Sheriff Pusser again in 1977 in "The Final Chapter:Walking Tall"(which I never saw),and again in a TV series that ran on NBC in 1979,(which I also never saw),the series was short lived,it ran only for a few months.

4-0 out of 5 stars Action Packed!
Action at it's best with juctice in the south, as Buford Pusser continued on with putting the bad guys in there place and setting things straight with the law. If you've seen "WALKING TALL" part 1, then this is a must for those who haven't seen part 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bo Svenson-Great Actor
I have seen Walking Tall over and over, To me Bo Svenson did an outstanding job in this sequel.:)

3-0 out of 5 stars Only if you could of meet the man
I found the movie to be very closely to the truth as the story was told to me by the real Sheriff however it would seem to some that a true story where a man lays his life on the line for his family is boring or bad acting. However i found the movie to be enjoyable and of course you would have to look at the time frame this was good acting for 1975 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I can dig it!
I am 21 years old. My mother raised me with the monkees music and tv shows. I did not see this movie until 2 years ago. I was impressed. And so should everyone else be that called them a "fake" band and so on. The talent is remarkable, as well as the direction and the writing. This film involves all of the angst and emotion of their personal lives as well as the sign of the times. They were trying to find love and peace in a world ridden with war. At the time they were so passionate about their beliefs, as well as with trying to strip off the stereotypes that people put on them by thinking that they weren't original or by comparing them to the Beatles (with whom they were friends with and hung out with on a regular basis). Everyone will have a different opinion after watching this movie. My opinion is that it is thoroughly enjoyable and an absolute shame to never see. There are so many different scenes and wonderful actors and great music! I think I am going to watch it again right now. Oh, and remember:Nobody ever lends money to a man with a sense of humor.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Acid Trip
Bob Rafaelson and Jack Nicholson were at a party with the monkees while all of them were stoned and asked them questions about their fame, their desires, and their fantasies and the result was Head, a psychodelic, plotless mindtrip which flows like a good Monty Python Episode.

Those tuning in to see the rapid-fire improv-filled laughtrack which was the TV series are in for a shock as this has none of their ultrasticom comedy, but hey! Hey! it's still the monkees....everything is just a bit more abstract and surreal :) And let's not forget the music! Wow! The monkees have never sounded so good, writing nearly all of their material. Mickey shines on Psychodelic "Porpoise Song" (while we see him jump off a bridge into a mermaid-filled sea) and the sweet ballad "aas We go Along. Mike Nesmith really rocks on "Circle Sky" and Peter Tork gives us more songwriting weirdness with his rapid fire "Long Title: Do I Have To Do This All Over Again?"

This is a good movie to sit back with your friends and watch entranced at its path. Lots of fun cameos by the likes of Teri Garr, Frank Zappa, and of course Victor Mature and his hair!

Groovy!

4-0 out of 5 stars cult classic
All I have to say is if your a true monkees fan your wasting your time I'ts terrible. How ever if your a huge fan of Rocky Horror Picture Show, Shock Treatment,J-Men Forever and any movie that director
Ed Wood did "except" Orgy Of The Dead (thats just asking for punishment.)than this movie is awsome.
I don't under stand why Peter Tork is the star of the movie ,he's on the least compared to the other guyes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Head is a trip!
What is so unique about HEAD is that it's dreamlike in a way that few movies are. A uniquely crafted film inspired by the underground films of the 50s & 60s. Few movies manage to be entertaining solely on the strength of editing, but here a series of dreamsequences are seemlessly strung together in a fun and innovative way. The most revolutionary part has to be the way the beginning and end sequences were connected by the events between them yet are the same scene with only slight variations. Huh? As the Monkees put it, "when you see the end in sight the beginning may arrive". How they do it is masterful. If you try to make sense of this movie, you'll be missing the point. The best thing to do is just mellow out before you watch it and allow HEAD to mess with your head a little. It will if you give it a chance and that makes for a truly rewarding viewing experience. Outside of the Monkees trying to escape their manufactured image, nothing really makes sense in this strange little movie. However, criticising HEAD for it makes about as much sense as critising your dreams for being equally strange and nonsensical. Where comedy is concerned, HEAD is not funny in a humorous way but rather in a peculiar way, similar to the way dreams have you saying, "what was that all about?" later on. If this had been a hit, it could have taken popular filmmaking in a whole new direction.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Anti-Masterpiece
When this film was made the career of the Monkees was already in decline as their show had been cancelled and their music was no longer charting ('Porpoise Song' from the "Head" soundtrack got up to number 62 on Billboard). The group was tired of their squeaky clean image as the 'Pre-Fab Four', and they just wanted out. This film was conceived in an effort to reach out to more adult audiences, and to hasten their departure from the scenes as the prototype MTV 'boy band'.

The film itself is a quirky, stream of consciousness movie that treads the line between anti-war statement film to over the top comedy in scenes where, for instance, they have to frolic on the scalp of Victor Mature (in a sequence known as 'dandruff') and are subsequently sucked into a giant vacuum cleaner by Victor Mature's hairdresser. There is no plot as such, but there is some redeeming social commentary such as when Frank Zappa tells Davy that he needs to work on his music more (but compliments his dancing, done with Toni Basil). At the end of the scene Frank Zappa's cow offers her opinion of the Monkees, in a scene that must be my favorite of the movie.

Some of the music is great, with the Nesmith tune 'Circle Sky' getting top mention. It's a great song, filmed live in a scene designed to show how the boys had been devoured by their public image. Other musical numbers are a bit lacking, particularly 'Daddy's Song' and 'As We Go Along.'

Highlights in the film are in the cameos. Not only do Toni Basil and Frank Zappa put in appearances, so do boxer Sonny Liston (who fights Davy), Terry Garr (who pleads to have poison sucked from her finger), Annette Funicello (who pleads tearfully with Davy in a love interest scene), and Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper in a cantina scene. Most peculiar of all credits are for writers and producers, namely longtime Monkees collaborator Bob Rafelson, and Jack Nicholson, who later collaborated on "Five Easy Pieces" and "The Postman Always Rings Twice", among other projects.

There are also extras consisting of theatrical trailers, including one in Portuguese, and television ads for the film. The film was essentially not promoted, certainly didn't connect with the typical Monkee demographic, and was a disaster at the box office. This didn't trouble the band, as it gave them a clear path out, with Peter quitting very shortly after the movie was released. This is as unlike the Monkees TV show as can be imagined, and I recommend it for anyone looking for a trippy sixties flashback stranger than most any other. I was fortunate enough to see this in a theater, and have loved it ever since. I recommend the film to people who know about the Monkees or just think they do. I guarantee that it will shatter your preconceived notions of the band. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT HORROR FLICK!!!!
All these other reviews citing lack of logic and bad plot must be deaf or not watching close enough becuase all the questions had easy answers i found while watching this movie. And kids sometimes in a horror movie answers are left unaswered cuz its better and more scary that way. It make you do something called think or invent your own answer, as in be creative, which the other reviewers here seem unable to do. Most horror films will disapoint you if you cant think. For gods sake dont rent a foriegn film you would really be lost. The plot is about a boy who was concieved during the rape of his mother by a monster. The couple who bring thier son with them in the car, LOL cant believe someone said how did the son get there. That reviewer must have been in the bathroom during that scene. They all go to the town together years later and scary fun things happen. Horror movies are not about good taste so dont expect it. In fact i get insulted when they get all pc on me. If i wanted that i would rent some lame soap opera like stepmom. This is just a fun monster in the backwoods fun gory fright flick. Its well worth the money horror fans of that you can be sure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lotsa Fun!!!
First caught this film on HBO some years ago. Loved it. Since then have had it on CED, Beta, VHS, and now I'm anxiously awaiting my copy on DVD -- 2:35 ratio and all! It's definitely not for the young ones -- it starts off with a rape scene. Some may consider it dated by today's standards, but it's just an old-fashioned horror movie which holds up very well. Eerie, scary fun with a few surprises. Would never expect the all mighty Leonard Maltin to like it -- actually, I wonder if he even has any taste in his mouth!

4-0 out of 5 stars WOWSERS!!!!!!
This is the original frightfest that my sister and nephew bragged about sooo many years ago about. That was 1982 folks! i purchased this dvd a couple of years back just because i thought of them. I remember all the chats about how horrible the scary parts were. well, it was laughable now but i bet really gross then? this is the kinda flick designed to keep you company on a lonely Friday or Saturday night folks! the story involves a woman who had been raped one night and eventually got pregnant from her attacker...a weird bug cicada creature. The reason for the attack stemmed from him wanting to secure his revenge on his enemies. Only by returning via his offspring can he carry about his malevolent plan. Cicadas sleep under the earth for 17 years and then return in the summer to eat and spawn and that's the basis of the creature in this flick. Unfortunately for his son life will be shortlived and rather ugly since he never gets to live out his dreams, love his girlfriend nor get out of such a boring town? Just where in the world is this town anyway? The directors and creators of this wacky freight fest state that "absolutely no one will be able to widthstand the last few minutes of this film!" Well, I did and it was nice to see a shoe string budget horror flick be both gross and disturbing while still maintaining a somewhat cohesive plot? There are no REAl stars but it did include actor Meshach Taylor (from Designing Women fame) who plays a minimal part in this wacky fest. I recommend this weird movie to all of you who enjoy cheesy horror movies and the like. I just wish the plot would have been a little better but that's ok. I just wanted to know why Meshach always played bit parts in horror flicks? At least he didn't get split in half like he did in THE OMEN 2. Yikes!

4-0 out of 5 stars I Hate Bugs.
In short, a woman is raped by a human cicada. She gives birth to a son and 16 or so years later her son turns into a giant grasshopper and rapes another woman. It's a fun movie. It moves quickly and has some romantic drama, until the son becomes an insect. Its a little over dramatic, and the acting needed some fine tuning, but the writing wasn't bad and the concept was interesting. It was hoaky and campy in places, aren't all these movies at some point? Check it out. You'll like it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Collinsville
One of the films in this set really stands out: Collinsville. It has great production values for a lowbudget film, interesting charcters, is well shot in cool locations. It exceeded my expectations, and has ONE HELL OF A TWIST near the end. Watch it and you'll see what im talking about. 4 out of 5 stars. dizzy. ...

Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars No frills but a bargain for the money
I agree that the picture and sound quality should have been better. I feel better about the quality of my DVD player knowing that someone else found certain scenes in "Final Chapter-Walking Tall" to be too dark. Also disappointing are the lack of trailers and documentaries, the latter, especially disappointing since these films were loosely based on facts. The packaging is flimsy, hardly protective from dust for the discs, merely adequate. Even so, the set is still a bargain for the money. As one who had the privilege of meeting the real Buford Pusser's mother and daughter and being told the facts, I really don't like Paul Gaita's so-called review and his calling the real Buford Pusser cruel and far from scrupulous. He should at least take the time to get his facts straight before making such statements. He might also be interested to know that the real Buford Pusser did not die in an explosion, but from being thrown from a fast-moving car. His mother went to her grave believing the crash of his Corvette on August 21, 1974 was caused by his being poisoned. Officially, his death was ruled as an accident, caused by drinking and speeding. Curiously though, his mother said that she was prevented from having his body exhumed, which she said would have proven that he was poisoned. Especially strange that there was no autopsy done either, which would have been proof of his drinking or not. She also said she was prevented from having his death investigated any further. I agree that the first film is the best and most factual, but Mr. Gaita needs to get his facts straight before defaming an actual person's character and reputation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bufford Pusser walks tall on DVD
I have waited for a long time for the Walking Tall Trilogy to be released on DVD but was not over joyed with the DVD set. First I have to say is that the movies are all outstanding and can be watched over and over aging without loosing their excitement. But, it looks like Rhino did not use a master print but a copy of the video tape. The print they used I think is a very poor print. Walking Tall part 1 has alot of what I call "video tape lines' runnig through it, the Final Chapter is real dark in some scenes, and over all the video quality is not what you expect out of a DVD. It looks like you are watching a video tape. Rhino, you did Bufford Pusser an injustice! And I have to agree with the other reviewer; Where is the TV series at??? Release them pleaseeeee.
Over all, for the movies sake I give it a 5 star plus. On Rhinos part, 5 stars for releasing the movies on DVD, and 2 stars for their transfer. Go back to the master prints, thx them, re-do a new release to DVD including a release of the TV series.
If you like Walking Tall and Buford Pusser at all, this is a DVD set you will wnat to own

4-0 out of 5 stars true american hero
I seen all the movies, and i liked them all.
Sheriff Pusser wanted to rid his county of the vermin of society
to make it a better place to live, but as reality sets in,the storey can be set to modern day america and the methamphetamine
labs and the under-funded sheriff's who have to keep law and order in area's where everyone and his brother is a weed smoker and aparasite on society.
wish they would change the constitution so more sheriff's
could rid their county's of evil doer's.

4-0 out of 5 stars Favorite childhood movie series
I recall seeing the first "Walking Tall" movie when I was real small, back in the late '70s. I saw the last two chapters in later years, enjoyed them as well. However, not to take away from Bo Svenson's performances, I was somewhat bummed that Joe Don Baker wasn't in the last two parts. Nevertheless, I decided to buy the trilogy box set and i'm glad I did. If you're looking for a good action movie, you should get this whole series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bizarre Cult Gem
I was wondering if this one would ever come oozing back up from the tubes. Juliette Lewis, John Glover, Bobcat Goldthwait and Anne "Where's the Beef" Ramsey join an ensemble cast in a story about a subterranean society whose lives depend on an infrastructure of tubes. At the center of this tale is the Hollowhead family, consisting of a hard-working dad with hopes of promotion at the job, a sparkly mom who gets food out of a duct in the wall, a young boy who gets amusement picking parasites from the family (dog?) and slingshotting them into a fan, an older sis whose hormones are in overdrive, an older brother who plays an instrument that resembles a cross between an accordion and a rubber chicken, and of course an eyeball plant that lives in the hallway.

Dad is having the boss over for dinner and needs to make an impression for his promotion, so mom gets busy preparing a special dinner for the occasion. Sis has some partying to do with friends that night, and mom reluctantly gives in to letting her feel grown up and using her "Softening Jelly" before going out. Dad's boss proves to be a true predator of a dinner guest, and things get ugly as the evening evolves into a genuine game of primal survival for the HH family. To complicate matters, sis is escorted back home by the police after they bust the party she went to, who claim that these kids tapped a forbidden feed of some choice "Butt Polish". Of course, this being a family offering, all is somehow made right in the end. But not before considerable fluids are spilled ......

Obviously not for everyone, Meet the Hollowheads is a tweaked-out live action cartoon vision of an alternate universe, sort of a Leave It To Beaver drops acid and goes to Jupiter. As such, much of the film is devoted to creating an environment, and does so beautifully, though occasionally at the cost of the story itself. The story, as is, is a simple one and serves more as a vehicle for the spot on performances and extraordinary production values - the makers of this odd work were well aware of its limited appeal, and it is apparent throughout that all involved had great fun doing it. Perfect for those nights when only good, clean, wholesome and extremely warped entertainment will do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
A cult classic! This movie is absolutley engrossing...and at times simply gross. I loved renting this movie when I was little but time made me forget what it was about...that is until I purchased it a month ago. I even love it more than I did as a child. It's an interesting take on what the future will be like (that is, what the people in the 80's thought the future would be like). Excellent film, go out and buy it today because it's practically impossible to find any place that rents it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bizarre surreal and ... stylish?
Imagine: A world where food, makeup, and telephone calls are all delivered through tubes. Medicine is administered through a creature living in your kitchen cabinets. The main employer is United Umbilical, the company that provides and maintains the tube system.

If you can imagine that, you have to see this movie. Low budget but they definitely made do. The props are awesome and the writing bizarre, definitely not for the "Runaway Bride" crowd -- it's far far better than that. Highly recommended!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Odd.

Allen Garfield is good as the bad guy, but you have to be a devoted Elliot Gould or Robert Blake fan in order to enjoy the film. ... Read more
