Dad is having the boss over for dinner and needs to make an impression for his promotion, so mom gets busy preparing a special dinner for the occasion. Sis has some partying to do with friends that night, and mom reluctantly gives in to letting her feel grown up and using her "Softening Jelly" before going out. Dad's boss proves to be a true predator of a dinner guest, and things get ugly as the evening evolves into a genuine game of primal survival for the HH family. To complicate matters, sis is escorted back home by the police after they bust the party she went to, who claim that these kids tapped a forbidden feed of some choice "Butt Polish". Of course, this being a family offering, all is somehow made right in the end. But not before considerable fluids are spilled ...... Obviously not for everyone, Meet the Hollowheads is a tweaked-out live action cartoon vision of an alternate universe, sort of a Leave It To Beaver drops acid and goes to Jupiter. As such, much of the film is devoted to creating an environment, and does so beautifully, though occasionally at the cost of the story itself. The story, as is, is a simple one and serves more as a vehicle for the spot on performances and extraordinary production values - the makers of this odd work were well aware of its limited appeal, and it is apparent throughout that all involved had great fun doing it. Perfect for those nights when only good, clean, wholesome and extremely warped entertainment will do.
If you can imagine that, you have to see this movie. Low budget but they definitely made do. The props are awesome and the writing bizarre, definitely not for the "Runaway Bride" crowd -- it's far far better than that. Highly recommended!! -David
Explanation? IT'S SO INCREDIBLY PSYCHO. I watched it and continued to laugh and laugh at how odd beyond odd it is. A must see for all. ... Read more

Yes, Lynda Carter was a beauty queen, but she was not airheaded or anorexic. Heck, she was an amazon who could and did save the day while getting the hot guy. Thankfully Wonder Woman's version of "girl power" would be way more Xena/Buffy than Spice Girls. Wonder Woman can hold her own in any sittuation. Excluding the horrid Cathy Lee Crosby movie, the series was very well done for the time and still holds up. Wonder Woman is one of the greatest shows of all times, and needs to be offered as soon as possible.
The 1940's portion of the series was markedly better than the "modern" ones, and wears a bit better. Fighting Nazi supervillains was a better use of the character than the standard crime clichés of the later series. The Seventies cars and architecture date the later series more than these. Except for the business about the belt being her weakness, as opposed to being handcuffed by a man, the TV show was markedly consistent with the comic book series. They didn't do enough with such things as the invisible plane, but it appears in these. They also didn't seem to find that much time onscreen for Wonder Woman as opposed to Diana Prince. Still, this was probably the best adaptation of one of the classic superheroes, at least until the first -Superman- movie appeared a few years later. It deserves credit for that much.

And with good reason. While Ionesco is one of the great absurdist playwrights, his sensibility is decidedly European. This means that the sense of humor expressed in the original play would very likely fall on deaf (American) ears, to a large extent. What the screenwriter has done is to essentially Americanize the dialogue, making it truly hilarious in many scenes. And of course it helps to have a great cast. The two leads, Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder, are perfect for their roles, especially Mostel who is funny enough to make you micturate in your trousers, if you catch my drift. Seen first as a man overly concerned with appearance and manners, he descends, in the course of the film, to the level of the titular creature. The story is of a small town which is beset by a bizarre plague, if one can call it that--the transforming of humans into rhinos. Ionesco was commenting on the radical changes occurring in society as the Cold War became a reality--meaning, more than anything else, as people had much more to be afraid of than they did before. Fear makes us lose our rationality, become less human. Even become rhinoceri. This is a really funny film that is just as good now--maybe even better--than it was when originally released in 1974. In supporting roles, Percy Rodriquez and Joe Silver are especially good--staunch representatives of corporate America. Karen Black does a great job as a sexy woman who Stanley (Gene Wilder) works with and is smitten with and eventually anguishes over as he is the sole remaining human in a town full of rhinos. Much, much better than you might think. Definitely recommended.
This is a good adaptation of the absurdist play by Eugene Ionesco and changes the setting from a small French town to a big US city. Wonderful performances by Gene Wilder as Stanley and Karen Black as Daisy; and a standout performance from Zero Mostel as Stanley's friend John. Tom O'Horgan's direction is definitley unique, making it feel as though the viewer is watching a stage play. The only drawback is the bad '70s music that doesn't fit. The DVD has some great extras including an interview with Tom O'Horgan, an interview with Zero Mostel, information about Eugene Ionesco, and the original movie trailer, to name a few. The trailer gives an idea of how the studio marketed this film as a comedy, even though it views more along the lines of a drama or a very, very dark comedy. Having read the play in college, I enjoyed this adaptation. If you enjoy a movie that makes you think, then this is definitely the movie for you.
The film is strangely up to date and topical too, with a kind of virus sweeping New York (IIRC). It's a stagey piece, with the two main actors providing almost all the energy. New Yorkers, being New Yorkers, have varying responses to crises, which is part of the fun. And the virus itself is a barely disguised version of what really has gripped our nation since this play was written. Everyone should see it at least once. Well, maybe not everyone.
Some might wish to pick up this DVD for the re-pairing of "Producers" duo Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder. Think again. Whatever one may think of the original absurdist Ionesco play that is its source, it's clear that it doesn't work on the movie screen. In fact, it's excruciatingly bad (and not in an enjoyable way). Even fans of Mostel and Wilder are not likely to find any redeeming value. ... Read more

This is rather a drama and shows superior acting skills by both main characters. Definitely worth an oscar (but never nominated). So don't go thinking this is a family movie that you can watch during christmas eve !! It is NOT.
