4-0 out of 5 stars BRONSON IS KERSEY IN THE THIRD EXCITING ACTION-THRILLER!
You've got to give Michael Winner some credit. Critics may lambast his movies often enough, and sometimes with good reason, but at least they can be entertaining, especially the action pics that he did with Charles Bronson. DEATH WISH was a landmark box office hit, a taut thriller inspired to some extent by the firearm tactics of DIRTY HARRY and 7 years later, it spawned a sequel. As Bronson never tracked down the creeps who raped his daughter and killed his wife in DW1, in DW2, he actually does manage to nail the freaks who attack his daughter and housekeeper. DW3, for me, is a perfect end to the trilogy of Michael Winner vigilante flicks (although there were 2 more Death Wishes, albeit under different directors). As always, Chuck is taciturn as Paul Kersey, who kills more people than ever and weaselly character actor, Ed Lauter is fine as the lieutenant who wants to use Kersey to sort out a neighbourhood, and ultimately helps him clear the trash. A film like this is best expected as a fantasy. There's plenty of great action sequences such as the final battle on the streets when Kersey runs around mowing down his enemies, using machine guns, bazookas and a 'Wildey' Magnum handgun, and the bit when chief villain, Manny Fraker and his cronies chase him through the night. As a long-time Led Zep fan, I love Jimmy Page's heavy metal score and it's great to see an old 'grandad' buzz round the streets and blow away guys half his age!

2-0 out of 5 stars CHARLIE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED AT NUMBER 2
having just watched this movie on TV the other night, and its upcoming release on DVD, prompted me to review this movie. And believe me it was not easy. On one hand, it's just a terrible movie.

Terrible plot, worse performances, characters that have no depth whatsoever, bad dialog, over the top violence... the list goes on and on. But if you can go into it without remotely taking it seriously, it's not too bad.

Bronson plays vigilante Paul Kersey, this time back in New York to take care of a friends affairs who was killed. The local police Captain knows full well who Kersey is, but rather than lock him up for his past crimes, he encourages him to go back to his vigilante ways, working for the police.

Kersey stays at his friends apartment building which is in a New York neighborhood that looks like something out of the post-apocyliptic future. Buidling are bombed out, trash is all around, and a ruthless street gang, painted it up with different color crayons, rules the streets.

Not much to guess here, Bronson is out to protect the neighborhoods residents and get the bad guys at all costs.

The movie is mind-numbingly stupid. The last 20 minutes or so is an all out battle with Kersey leading the residents against hundreds of gang members. One resident is armed with only a homemade zip gun. At one point he proclaims he has to go back and get more ammo. Evidently he doesn't notice the dozens of bodies of gang members lying around still clutching assault rifles.

Earlier on, Kersey not only mails away for a HUGE handgun, but also a rocket launcher!!! A freaking Rocket launcher...that Kersey picks up in a plain brown wrapper. Brilliant.

The end has Bronson blowing away the gang leader with that very rocket launcher, right out of his apratment wall. The leaders girlfriend, down on the street screams!!! Evidently she knows that was HER boyfriend, even though theres not enough of him left to even sweep up.

At that point, the gang just gives up. Ughhh.

Hey, just think of this as a live action cartoon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cinematic Perfection
Ah, Death Wish 3! A larger body count than John Woo's "Hard Boiled" and perhaps the funniest movie ever made! "You don't really like opera...do you?" Bronson replies like a teddy bear: "No." What a crazy soundtrack by Jimmy Page...that crazy synth sound when Bronson pays in cash! And count all the times characters say "creep(s)" or "sonofab***h". For so many reasons, this is a movie that belongs in any person's vido library. It would have been nice if it got the Criterion Collection treatment...but hey, it's still great for the price. Having the DVD is nice because you can put the burning people and/or people jumping (or falling) from burning buildings on slow motion. And you notice things like the creep prancing around with a plunger! Just buy the darn film...it doesn't get better than this: "Chicken's good. I like chicken." Totally Gonzo; totally Bronson!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE MOST ENTERTAINING DEATH WISH
DEATH WISH WAS A CLASSIC. THE OTHER SEQUELS WERE ALL VERY WATCHABLE. DEATH WISH 3, HOWEVER, IS THE MOST ENTERTAINING OF THEM ALL. INCREDIBLE! FUNNY AND ACTION PACKED FROM START TO FINISH! I'LL NEVER GET OVER THE GIGGLER'S DEMISE!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bronson Kicks some Honey Buns
When the odds are against you, you can count on one man: Charles Bronson. Of the five 'Death Wish" movies I like this one the most. Bronson cleans up the neighborhood when some "creeps" decide to pick on our senior citizens. Yoy really have to like this outing. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Scary flick!
"The Sentinel" is a grand 1970's horror film staffed with a cast rivaling the pictures made by Robert Altman or Irwin Allen. I can't remember the last time I saw a film with so many recognizable faces--Christopher Walken, Chris Sarandon, Beverly D'Angelo, Burgess Meredith, John Carradine, Jerry Orbach, Jeff Goldblum, Ava Gardner, Martin Balsam, Jose Ferrar, Eli Wallach, Arthur Kennedy, and Tom Berenger all pop up in roles both major and minor throughout the film. "The Sentinel" obviously takes films like "The Omen," "Rosemary's Baby," and "The Exorcist" as its role models, and it holds up surprisingly well in comparison. When I stumbled over this film a few months ago, I was quite astounded I had never heard of it before considering I am such a fan of 1970's horror films dealing with satanic influences. Michael Winner, the director who presented us with such classic cinema as "Scorpio," "Death Wish," and "The Mechanic," gives us his all in this chilling story about a gateway to Hell and the poor souls entrusted to protect the rest of us from the evil spirits dwelling there. The movie is an adaptation of a book written by Jeffrey Konvitz.

A model named Alison Parker and her successful lawyer boyfriend Michael Lerman (Christina Raines and Chris Sarandon respectively) begin their descent into madness when Parker rents a room in a creepy old apartment building from mysterious real estate agent Miss Logan (Ava Gardner). The model soon discovers her new dwellings possess a decidedly sinister atmosphere--a blind priest sits and stares out of the window of the top floor apartment, an elderly creep spouting cryptic comments (Burgess Meredith) keeps dropping by, and a couple of females in an extremely close relationship live in a neighboring apartment. Within a few days of moving in, Parker begins to hear strange noises, starts having vivid memories of a suicide attempt she made as a child, sleepwalks, and discovers a few hideous secrets about the other tenants in the building. By the time Alison starts having fainting fits during fashion shoots, her boyfriend Michael steps in and starts investigating the strange apartment building. Lerman's nosing around brings in a couple of detectives (Wallach and Walken) who remember well how Michael's first wife died under mysterious circumstances. When bodies start turning up, "The Sentinel" becomes a race to discover what evil lurks in the apartment building before the cops pin the weirdness on Lerman.

Winner's film evokes shudders on numerous levels. You'll gasp in surprise several times during the film, from the eventual revelations about the strange residents to what Beverly D'Angelo's character does when Alison Parker pays a visit (I had to replay that scene a couple of times just to convince myself that I did really see that. Purely from an academic aspect, of course. Honest.). I've seen several films where Burgess Meredith works hard at being weird--"Burnt Offerings" is an excellent example--but I don't remember him ever attaining the level of bizarre he does here. He's downright disturbing as the elderly neighbor who drops in on Raines's character from time to time. The conclusion of the film definitely constitutes one of the more disturbing endings I have seen in a horror film, and it does so with a lot less gore than you would expect. I thought the plot of "The Sentinel" was a good one, a plot both frighteningly offbeat and effectively eerie.

I had a lot of fun watching for famous faces. Most of the actors who appeared in the film weren't that well known yet, and they look younger than you could ever imagine. Jeff Goldblum plays a pushy fashion photographer, Beverly D'Angelo turns up as a lesbian with a penchant for showmanship, and Christopher Walken plays a cop. Walken especially is humorous to watch. He only has about two lines in the entire film yet still manages to exude his now famous sense of weirdness. Chris Sarandon has since become a better known actor through such roles as the vampire in "Fright Night," and Jerry Orbach made a name for himself as a character actor in films ("Brewster's Millions") and as one of the cops in the television show "Law and Order." The only real mystery here is Christina Raines as Alison Parker. Here's an actress in the lead role in a film loaded with young and old talent alike, and she barely makes a splash. In fact, she hasn't made a movie or television show since the late 1980s. What happened? Personally, I didn't care for her character in the movie or how she played the part. Even worse, considering she's supposed to be playing a big buck fashion model, she isn't very attractive. You will have a better time watching the interesting mix of actors and actresses instead of focusing on Raines's histrionic performance.

"The Sentinel" doesn't provide much in the way of extras outside of a trailer and some production notes. Even the picture transfer isn't all that good, unfortunately. You would figure a movie loaded with so many once was and would be stars would get a better treatment. Oh well, give the movie a shot if you love horror. Creepy, grotesque, and shocking--"The Sentinel" managed to surprise me, a jaded horror aficionado, more than a few times. Let's hope they rerelease the movie on a DVD with a better picture transfer, more extras, and perhaps a commentary from the likes of Sarandon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great atmosphere, a stunning cast, well worth watching!
This is a classic '70s style horror film, probably quite shocking at the time, and still very effective today. Atmosphere is everything in this film, but be prepared for a few truly shocking jolts as well.

The story is pretty straight forward. A young woman moves into a new apartment where strange occurrences begin to take place...but the story is in the details, and the wonderful performances of an amazingly chosen cast that consists of a who's who of veteran stars and up & coming talent. Trust me, you'll have a field day spotting such familiar faces such as Chris Sarandon, Burgess Meredith, Eli Wallach, Christopher Walken, Martin Balsam, John Carradine, José Ferrer, Ava Gardner, Arthur Kennedy, Jeff Goldblum, Jerry Orbach, Sylvia Miles, Beverly D'Angelo, William Hickey, Tom Berenger , & Nana Visitor. They don't put together cast like that anymore, even some of the smallest parts have outstanding actors & actresses playing them.

The film features a very effective performance by Cristina Raines that shouldn't be missed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Horror Classic; curious difference in story
I have just purchase the DVD from Goodtimes Video of the 70's horror classic. As other customers have noted, it is really worth having, and there is indeed a lot that you will see that is cut out of "TV" versions. However, there is at least one scene missing from the DVD, and I wonder if other viewers have noticed this..that is the scene or scenes that pertain to the group of priests who call themselves "The Brotherhood of the protectors" who had been disbanded from the church for their beliefs. The is at least one scene showing a meeting of the "brothers" that is in my age-old tape of a television broadcast of the film that is not shown in the DVD. However, in the beginning of the DVD, the movie begins in Northern Italy with a group of priests discussing the "danger" as do the "brotherhood" in the "other" version. I also note the another DVD version is set to be released on September 7, 2004 by Umvd. So, I await this release to see if the deleted scene is included. I wonder if anyone would like to comment on this oddity? Aside from this curious detail, I thoroughly enjoyed the DVD from Goodtimes Video.

3-0 out of 5 stars Look Out For Lippy!
This film was a bit above the standard genre fare being released at the time. I remember going to see it after reading the book and it really freaked me out. Towards the end, when all the "poor souls from hell" appear, they actually used some disfigured people (saving money on fx make-up?). There was this man from Coney Island, we used to call him "Lippy," that scared the hell outta me when I was a kid (in the 60's). He was probably a nice man, but I after the 1st time I saw him I had nightmares for months. I did a double take when I saw him in this movie... it was incredible to have one of your childhood fears realized like that... got me again dude (lol). So look for Lippy at the end of the film...ya can't miss him ; )

5-0 out of 5 stars Still scary
I remember watching this movie as a kid. It was so eerie and horrifying, and many of the scenes stayed embedded in my head. But I didn't know the title and I had never seen it replayed, or heard people talking about it. It was as if it never even existed. For the last 10 years, I've been going back and rewatching the old horrors I grew up with--like the Omen and Rosemary's Baby--only to be disappointed over and over again (they just aren't scary to me anymore). For years I wanted to watch the Sentinel again, but in a sense I was afraid to ruin the experience I remembered (like seeing the old man stare out the window high up). Finally, after explaining to a friend the five or six things I remembered about the movie, she told me the name of it and I ran to the video store. Surprisingly enough, it was still scary and eerie! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Christian Duguay's Scanners 2: The New Order
The dynamic duo from the first film apparently got together and had children. Those children have grown up to become super scanners in this unnecessary followup.

This time, the evil corporation has been replaced by an evil civil servant moonlighting at an evil corporation. A young man meets with him, solves a lovely subplot crime involving poisoned children's milk, finds out his new boss is not nice, and turns against him. The evil civil servant wants to start a "new order," where there would be no crime because the scanners would run everything. The evil corporation does have a bunch of scanners in their basement, hopelessly addicted to a new version of what turned them into scanners in the first place.

This film has the adult children of the original's scanner couple, although the films were only ten years apart. David Cronenberg had nothing to do with the series of sequels his film spawned. Deborah Raffin, second billed, does not show up until an hour and ten minutes into this, her character is explained in such a way that it must have been written in on set.

We are treated to more violence, more gore, more good scanners, and more bad scanners. Obviously, the good scanners win in the end, and yet this was followed by a few more sequels. This is just a retread of the first film, which was no classic to begin with, and I felt the same way here as I did with the original: no recommendation.

This is rated (R) for strong physical violence, strong gun violence, strong gore, and some profanity. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good movie, but not enough sex
I like the movie and the cast was great. But if I was writing the story I would have the lesbian scene steamed up even more and Melina Mercouri's character stalking Deborah Raffin's character.I am sadden the Jacqueline Susann is no longer with us but her good works live on.

1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of time
What a disppointment! I loved the novel, but this movie is a lobotomized version of the original story that leaves out SO much. Brenda Vaccaro and David Jansen weren't bad given what they had to work with, but the rest of the acting was awful. And to add to the general awfulness, this is a pan-and-scan version of a scratched and dirty print with bad audio.

4-0 out of 5 stars Deffinately a classic that deserves more attention
Jackie Susann is my favorite writer. So after I saw Valley Of The Dolls and read the book I was eager to read and see The Love Machine and Once Is Not Enough. I saw Once Is Not Enough on Sunday and was quite impressed This movie and the book are definately a Susann masterpiece. She is the queen of trash literature.

5-0 out of 5 stars STILL A GREAT MOVIE!......25 YEARS LATER!
I give this movie 5 stars because when I first saw it, I was a VERY young girl, and it left a lasting impression on me as being a very good movie. Being a young girl at that time, it had enough drama and sex, to keep this movie in my memory all these years. I was surfing for drama films, and this film popped into my head! I performed a search, and there it was!. If you take it as a movie made during the times of the "70's", and not judge it by today's movie standards, you will enjoy it. This movie will be in my collection for a long time to come.

3-0 out of 5 stars Brenda Vacarro SHINES, but NOT ENOUGH DRUGS!
Although I wasn't as disappointed with this film as the previous reviewer, it was quite a letdown after reading the book. The "vitamin shots" and other assorted goodies (gang rapes, Karla's secret retarded daughter, etc.) that didn't make it on screen severely lower the scandal and glamour level of this film, but the exotic locales and Deborah Raffin's innate charm are undeniably great. It's also fun to see some of the retro kitschy sets (especially George Hamilton's swingin' bachelor pad), and the disco sequence. The film's saving grace is definitely Brenda Vacarro as the unabashed man hungry corporate sleep around Linda Riggs. Her Oscar nomination for the role was well deserved, and I am disappointed she didn't win. The bottom line, however, is this: NOT ENOUGH DRUGS!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Comedy - can't wait for it in DVD
This is an uplifting, cozy film about a May-December romance.
The characters are wonderful and you wish you can hang out with
them. Very funny and I can't believe it isn't out on DVD. See
it if you like warm 70's flicks. Gene Kelly is great.

4-0 out of 5 stars feel-good movie about a May-December romance
This is a feel-good movie about a May-December romance. The story begins in romantic Greece and revolves around Liv Ulman trying to resist her "infatuation" with a younger man. A supporting role by Gene Kelly also helps to make this movie a gem. The impact on her family, his family and herself makes for a delicious comedy that has a...well you'll have to enjoy it for yourself to see how it all works out!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth Liv-ing for!
This frothy comedy, based on a Broadway hit, is terribly undermined by the central miscasting of Liv Ullmann as the older woman. Ullmann, better a dramatic actress than a polished comedienne, lacks the glamor for the role, and is a decade too young for it. She is heavy and unconvincing, like a cow portraying a cool feline. This movie, along with the execrable "Lost Horizon", buried her mercifully short-lived Hollywood career. A fiasco! Would have been better with someone like Audrey Hepburn or even Liz Taylor.

5-0 out of 5 stars LIV ULLMAN DELIGHTFUL
Forty Carats is the frothy Broadway comedy typical of Broadway several decades ago. This film version is given a greater dimension with the casting of foreign actress Liv Ullman in the leading role. Ullman gives this comedy a greater degree of poignancy and depth. In this story about a 40-ish woman being romanced by a man almost half her age, one can see that Ullman was clearly too young for the part. Although this fact works against her performance, Ullman's extraordinary skill as an actress makes us believe in her plight and you end up rooting for a happy ending. Forty Carats has a good supporting cast. Film veteran Binnie Barnes is delightful as Ullman's mother and hoofer Gene Kelly plays a pivotal role as Ullman's ex-husband. The beautiful Deborah Raffin made her film debut as Ullman's daughter. But this is Ullman's movie all the way and she makes this film worth watching. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This one is personal
I have Cerebral Palsy, so does my husband. The movie is so true to the life we live on a daily basis, of rejection and the need to find a 'star' to guide our lives by. The bond between the girl and her care attendant is significant, as the letter writing in hopes of meeting something greater that the mondane in our lives. Lastly, to have love. I recommend this movie to anyone who needs a 'charge' to jumpstart their lives, or for anyone who want to understand the on going issues of disability.

I am so thankful that Amazon is carrying this movie. Thanks

5-0 out of 5 stars touched by love
When I first saw this movie I was so moved by it. To think that the king of rock & roll touched the life of this young lady and inspired her to look at her life and those who really cared and loved her and bring her out of her shell was incredible. I have always been a fan of Elvis and to this day I cherish his music, I can relate to the young lady in this movie because I too when I am down or sluggish all I have to do is listen to my Elvis music and that man will bring out the best in me. Elvis was a very special person and with his music he brought life and happiness to a beautiful young lady when she needed it the most. There will never be another Elvis he was a legend but he left us with the one thing we all need and that is his music. You won't regret watching this movie I can bet you that you will watch it more than once it was that moving. There was a lesson to be learned from this movie and that is to never give up on something or someone you care for if you're patient like she was you will eventually receive an answer.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST FOR ANY SERIOUS ELVIS FAN
It details the life of a special little girl with cerebal palsy and how her love of Elvis made her remaining years joyful. Diane Lane is outstanding. John Amos and Michael Learned give much in supporting roles. While some may find this a weak production, any true Elvis fan will view it as quite an emotional ride and confirmation of the largeness and humbleness of The King of Rock n' Roll. As a "devout" Elvis fan he greatly touched my life. This movie, which I treasure, details just how special his life was and how much it meant to so many in so many different ways. Again, it's a must for ANY true Elvis fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars True stories ALWAYS make a movie!
As a once very avid Elvis collector and music history specialist, I must say this movie is worth your attention! Based on the true story and book of a very wonderful woman who works with handicapped children in a special care facility. She meets a young lady (Diane Lane) who is a total fan of Elvis Presley and not only works with her therapy, but her love for Elvis. The unbelieveably true part is that Elvis personally begins to correspond with the young lady through a private mailing address. The complete story is golden, like a fairy tale. But this one is amazingly true, confirmed by the author, Joe Esposito, and once, at a press conference, Elvis, himself. 5 STARS- ALL THE WAY, (and remember the Kleenex box)!

This adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel Sparkling Cyanide (aka Remembered Death) by Sue Grafton (yes THAT Sue Grafton),Steven Humphreys and Robert Malcolm is a a great mystery movie. Not completely faithful to the original--the movie opens prior to Rosemary's death instead of one year after, Southern California vs. WWII England--but the main elements of the story are there, and it's a tight, well-written adapting of the plot. I've seen the movie many times and recently re-read the book and I couldn't say which I prefer. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars "The Dove" is One-Quarter Whipped Cream
THE DOVE is a formulaic and predictable Hollywoodization of Robin Lee Graham's bestselling book, DOVE. Graham was the youngest male sailor to complete a circumnavigation, in a 24 foot sloop.

"The Dove" suffers from too much saccharine and not enough vinegar. While the location shooting is superb, the film hardly lives up to it's storyline, downplaying the dangers and the risks of singlehanded sailing in favor of overkill on the romantic side. The actual passage becomes a pseudodocumentary, mostly lacking in drama, and secondary to the love story. The Grahams'(Robin Lee and Patti's) love story as shown is sickeningly sweet.

The movie is not helped by the fact that neither Bottoms nor Raffin can act their way out of a paper bag. They are saddled with a poor script and truly maudlin dialogue. Rather than being a theatrical release the film has an "Afterschool Special" feel to it.

Despite it's drawbacks, it is well worth watching if you are (1) a sailing fanatic who can't get enough of boats, (2) stuck inside the house on a rainy day (with or without the kids) with nothing much to do, and (3) a reader of DOVE who is familiar with the story.

THE DOVE is harmless, enjoyable fluff.

4-0 out of 5 stars sail away
While sappy and saccharin the actors are engaging and the story is compelling (as all sea sagas are to me). Actually i found the clumsey acting part of the innocent charm. I own a Ranger 23 the same boat used in the film ( I believe Graham's real life boat was a 24-footer) so this film is especially wonderful to me. One reviewer summed it up well . A great film for a romantic with a sailing fetish. If you like this read Maiden Voyage by Tanya Aebi. Its both a better sea yarn and a better love story and would make a great film.

4-0 out of 5 stars Motivation to finish something
Do you have kids who lack motivation? This is a movie that can open many doors to their learning experience. You can follow up with two books about Robin Graham and his voyage. Finishing this circumnavigation took a lot of courage and guts. He wanted to quit several times, yet stuck with his dream.
Even though the movie is Hollywood, you can use it to help your kids see the world. They can learn what Robin did, that people can be happy without all the glitz of wealth. Plus no one in the movie gets shot, blown up, or abused. You can't go wrong with this movie about a real person who sailed around the world in a very small sailboat. You can climb a mountain in a week, but this took 4 years to complete. It's worth a look.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good circumnavigation movie for sailors
Nice movie, nice scenes, a good watch for sailors

1-0 out of 5 stars The dove falls short
Sadly disapointing. I have often seen this movie compared to the movie Wind; but, it doesn't even come close. The off-shore storm sailing scenes look really fake, and the dialogue and soundtrack are terrible. The only thing similar to Wind (a movie I love) is the weak love story. Save your money and rent this one first. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good God
This little known feature is a must. By Larry Cohen (Black Ceasar/Q The Winged Serpant/Dial Rat For Terror) the New York based director. The film was initiially retitled called "Demon" after it was refused showings due to the title. A dedicated Christian (oh dear) COP (oh dear,oh dear) starts his investigations in a seemingly senseless spake of sniper killings. Thats about all I can tell you without spoiling it,but this film goes down paths that you never thought it would and suprises all the way to the end. There is also a small apearence by Andy Kaufman (Latka from "TAXI") as a cop who goes kill crazy at a parade. Watch and see why "God Told Me Too"

5-0 out of 5 stars God Told Me To Write This...
Yes, this is one weird movie. Mass murder has broken out in New York City like a particularly bad flu epidemic. The film opens with a guy perched on a water tower, gunning down pedestrians for no apparent reason. Tony Lo Bianco is a cop named Nicholas who climbs the tower to talk to the man. When asked why he did it, the gunman says, "God told me to." He then takes a swan-dive onto the street below. Nicholas is a very religious man and is fascinated with the idea of God telling anyone to commit mass murder. The murders keep happening. A man goes to the market and stabs a bunch of customers. Andy Kaufman is a cop who goes berserk at the St. Patrick's Day parade and shoots cops and bystanders alike. Another guy kills his entire family and calmly waits for the police. Of course there's one common denominator in all of these incidents. God told them to do it. Nicholas digs deeper into the mystery to the point of losing his job. He seeks out a young man with long blonde hair who was seen with all the killers just before their crimes. He finds the blonde man's mother, who promptly tries to kill him. Later, Nicholas is told by an older, retired officer about a strange occurance back in 1951. A woman he picked up (running naked down the road) told him she'd been abducted by aliens and raped. Nicholas finds her, still living, in a nursing home. What dark secrets does she hold? What connection is there between Nicholas and the blonde haired man? GOD TOLD ME TO is a VERY different movie! Is God really orchestrating these killings? Or is some alien hybrid only impersonating the deity? Check this one out...

3-0 out of 5 stars God Told Me To....Kill! that sounds fun!
A New York City policemen investigating a series of particularly brutal homicides discovers an eerie link between the cases - when the murderers are asked why they committed the crime they all claim, "God Told Me To."

A Very Strange Movie!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the time or the money.
What is this very-hyped movie about?

New York City sees a rash of killings. Before dying, each murderer says, "God told me to."

Upon investigation, detective Tony Lo Bianco (who should have known better than to get involved in this mess of a film) discovers that all were influenced by a young man who looks vaguely like Jesus Christ. In reality, both he and Lo Bianco were fathered by aliens who abducted their virgin mothers 30 years before. In Lo Bianco's case, the genes of the alien were recessive and his mother's humanity dominated. In the other man's case, the alien genes were dominant. (...)

If you're saying "Huh?", you're on to the mystery of this film. Is it scary? Not at all. Is it funny? Not really. Is it poorly acted? Not really. Is the script ludicrous? You bet. Does it explain everything? Yes. Is it worth 92 minutes and 15-20 bucks to learn the mystery of the androgynous Messiah(...)? No.

Cohen's Q-The Winged Serpent and It's Alive are far better than this disaster of a film...and that's saying a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seriously Potent Stuff!
Larry Cohen's GOD TOLD ME TO is one of the most intelligent, gritty horror/thrillers ever made! In New York, a series of mass murders occur with each perpetrator saying the title phrase. But is there something more going on here? Tony Lo Bianco is excellent as the devout Catholic policeman who is investigating this bizarre phenomenon and discovers something really shocking about himself along the way! As with most cult movies, GOD TOLD ME TO must be seen to be believed; it's a genuinely thought-provoking and scary thriller that raises interesting questions about religion. The visual style is amazing; it inspired the look of shows like NYPD BLUE and 24. In the tradition of the best science fiction movies, GOD TOLD ME TO raises more questions than answers, and very important questions at that. Don't miss it! ...

The bottom line, however, is this: NOT ENOUGH DRUGS!!! ... Read more
