4-0 out of 5 stars "Not even a nun's habit would conceal her."
Susana (Rosita Quintana) is incarcerated in a reform school. She's been there for three years when the film begins, and Susana is being transferred (fighting all the way) to a new and even nastier cell. Susana prays for heavenly intervention, and then discovers there's a way to escape through the window. During a horrendous storm, Susana escapes and crawls her way to freedom.

In spite of the awful storm Susana manages to get to a plantation owned by the wealthy Guadalupe family. She is taken in and given employment as a servant. But Susana hasn't mended her ways and soon she's juggling the attentions and favours of three men--Senor Guadalupe, his son, Alberto, and the headman, Jesus.

It was great fun to watch the sheer havoc and domestic strife that Susana brings into the Guadalupe household. Susana is quite submissive and mealy-mouthed when she first arrives, but her true colours burst forth. She's modestly dressed by Dona Carmen Guadalupe and then Susana adjusts her clothing whenever she enters a room with a man in it.

Rife with religious and sexual imagery, this early Bunuel film does not match many of the director's later masterpieces (Belle De Jour is one of my all-time favourite films), and Susana does seem slightly campy and crude in comparison. Nonetheless, for Bunuel fans, it is worth seeing--love that whipping scene!--displacedhuman ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tin Tan takes his show to Jalisco wearing his zoot suit
This is a great Tin Tan classic, when he still was a "pachuco" wearing his trademark zoot suit, to the extreme that he didn't forget to put a feather on his charro hat ("sombrero"). With the usual great cast typical of those years, including pretty Carmen Molina and gorgeous Rosita Quintana speaking with a great Mexican Jalisco accent. But perhaps the one that steals the show is Ismael Perez (I found his name in the IMDB), he is the little kid that hates Tin Tan, and his name in the movie is "Pepito" (like in the Mexican jokes) who makes fun of his zoot suit and for not wearing a gun. He ends up selling him his toy gun. Don't miss this one, it's just pure fun entertainment for all. Another must to be digitally restored from the Mexican golden era (40's and early 50's) ...
