5-0 out of 5 stars *DVD* Please! Let's get these out on DVD!
I had a fabulous time today, having a molar extracted. You see, my wacky dentist has TVs on the ceiling, with VCRs, and he chose to show me a pair of "Dinosaurs" episodes, while he did his bloody work. It was SO hard not to just bust a gut laughing. (What was he thinking? He was laughing too!)

If the two episodes I saw are a good sample, this is a *wildly* funny show, just relentlessly hilarious -- with a bit of an "edge", if you'll excuse the cliche.

I'm ready to buy the complete series on DVD anytime -- after less than an hour, I'm an instant convert!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
This used to be on TV and I couldn't get enough of it! It's cute, teaches lessons with simple family and day-to-day situations. Love the themesong! You'll never be able to forget baby dinosaur's motto: "I'm the baby, gotta love me!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids. Parents too.
This Movie has me still laughing. It's the best. Hopefully you will like it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I need the DVD. I need all the DVDs. How much do you want?
Considering all the myriad BAD business decisions they've been making lately (they *really* passed on distributing Moore's new film? WHEW, they're gonna regret that!) I guess we shouldn't be surprised that Eisner's Disney is hiding this great series in a sealed vault, as if it were a 20-year-old black-market shell of Sarin gas.

It just ain't fair. Why does one of the most poorly-managed corporations of the 90s/00s get to own such GREAT stuff?!?

As I said on another review . . . I think they're missing out on tapping the SIMPSONS/SOUTH PARK fan base. Idiocy! Bithering, numb-skulled, Bush-minded IDIOCY!!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT concept/execution, VERY funny stuff
I want all these episodes on DVD. Come on!!

This is "classic" Disney fare, you know, it's made for kids but it's got humor that only adults will "get". I have four or five tapes with three episodes each. Great stuff. I want ALL episodes on DVD. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Deuce's Review of Silence of the Hams
Some people take comedies too seriously. The Silence of the Hams is a funny movie. Maybe not the funniest of spoofs, but it is worth watching. Another reason to watch this movie is too see
the great looking Charlene Tilton. I didn't particularly watch
Dallas, but I can see why it was a popular show and she was one of the reasons. Billy Zane is good as the monotone Jo Dee Fostar.
Dom Deluise is always Dom Deluise. I think my favorite actor in
the movie is Ezio Gregio. His bad or horrible Italian accent had
me cracking up.

2-0 out of 5 stars The last review
I'm sorry, but the last review was hilarious. i hope it wasn't serious. this is obviously not "The Silence od the Lambs" this is just a horror movie spoof with very cheap and bad jokes. The reason i gave it 2 stars is because it's a horror movie spoof that came before "Scary Movie"

2-0 out of 5 stars What was all the hype??
I read this was a great action thriller with a ton of suspense. It was terrible. I can't believe the Academy gives awards to flicks like this. I don't even recall seeing Jodie Foster or Anthony Perkins in any scenes either, what was that? Was Perkins pretending to be Delouise and was Foster Billy Zane or something. Ick! Anyway, terrible. I guess it's one of those "art" movies that are supposedly deep. I just thought it was stupid. The Hannibal sequel is much better and understandable! Stay away!! Don't believe the hype!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun!
This movie is a load of fun to watch. It's campy and crazy and you have to watch it several time to pick up on all the nutty humor. I loved it!

1-0 out of 5 stars This movie is terrible
You ever see a movie so bad it gives you a headache. Well this pile of junk gave my a terrible migrane just watching it, It is supose to be a parody of silence of the lambs. Mel Brooks parody of Bram Stokers Dracula "Dracula dead and loving it" is far superior and that is not saying much. This asinine garbage is painful to watch. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Honestly? Yeah, It's Good.
I've been a fan of this movie ever since it came out. It is hopelessly tacky and cheesy -- but that HAS to be it's intended charm... otherwise I could never explain Kristy Swanson's acting in here which appears to be cardboard on purpose. Basic premise is similar to the inferior original... Bavarian peasant girl is frozen by a sorcerer for 1000 years after attempting to marry a prince. She winds up in a Pennsylvania department store while "on tour" (she is her country's only source of international interest). While at this store, she is left in the care of an employee (William Ragsdale) who falls in love with her. Her home country of Hauptmann-Koenig sends an evil count (Terry Kiser) to watch after her to make sure nothing happens to the country's treasure because he intends to marry her someday. But, lo and behold... it seems that 1000 years has just passed! And it is discovered that if her necklace is removed, she can come to life! BUT WHO WILL THE MANNEQUIN FALL IN LOVE WITH? Tacky? Of course. It's fantastic fun. Of course, Meshach Taylor shows up to reprise his role of the flamboyantly gay, over-the-top Hollywood Montrose. If he hadn't signed on to do this role, they could never have done this movie.

The movie is not technically brilliant. This could never be deemed a critic's film. It's not a film, it's a movie. Considering that the fictional country of Hauptmann-Koenig spoke perfect American English in the 10th century proves that. It's an hour and a half of lighthearted, outrageous stupid fun that has held up pretty well over the course of a decade plus. Kristy Swanson's portrayal of the statue that looks like a mannequin, Jessie, is really quite brilliant and underrated as she adjusts to life in the 1990s, in which she cannot understand the concept of fashion circa 1991, stoplights and fire extinguishers. It includes the theme from the original, Starship's "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", which oddly, won the original "Mannequin" an Oscar. Go figure.

5-0 out of 5 stars This one's got it ALL!- action, comedy and romance!
This is a great film for all ages. It's the timeless tale of two star-crossed lovers destined to be together. Meshach Taylor returns as the hilariously sassy Hollywood Montrose. He brings an energy to every scene he is in. William Ragsdale and Kristy Swanson are great as the two star-crossed lovers. The movie has it all, comedy, action-adventure, and romance. It's a sassy, funny comedy; the perfect Friday night rental.

3-0 out of 5 stars A different live mannequin
This sequel to 1987's MANNEQUIN was a flop. Nobody from the first film appears in this one. This film stars William Ragsdale who starred in 1985's FRIGHT NIGHT. Kristy Swanson is the mannequin. This film is somewhat memorable for me because Meshach Taylor of TV's Designing Women was part of the cast. The only recycling is Starship's recording NOTHING'S GONNA STOP US NOW which was played during the end credits like the first film. Swanson would later star in "Buffy The Vampire Slayer",that film later inspiring the TV series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.

5-0 out of 5 stars GET THE DIRT
I ALWAYS THINK THAT KRISTY SWANSON IS A BEAUTIFUL ACTRESS AND IN THIS MOVIE HER LOVER BOY FRIEND WANTS TO TREAT HER LIKE-A-QUEEN AND ALSO TO FIGHT FOR HER HONER SO THAT IS MORE LIKE GOING AFTER
A MAN WHO HAS NO KNOWLEDGE TO BE A HIT-MAN TO MAKE THINGS LOOK LIKE TAKING KRISTY HOSTAGE IN HIS HOT AIR BALLOON AND I THINK HE IS THREATING THE COUPLE OF LOVE AND FACING A FEAR IN TURNING INTO STONE IN A MAGIC SPELL SO HE'S TAKING A BIG DOSE OF HIS MEDICINE BY KINNAPPING THE PRINCESS.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Movie--Please release on DVD!
I watched this movie when I was about nine or ten and I really liked it. It's a romantic comedy that's fun for the whole family. I hope it will come out on DVD sometime soon so I can cherish this gem forever. This sequel rocks! Granted, I haven't seen the first Mannequin but I'm sure it's good too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of the series
I liked both of the previous movies in the shrunk series, and "Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves" is no exception. In this third movie of the series, the inventor of the shrinking machine, Wayne (Rick Moranis) accidentally shrinks himself along with his wife Diane (Eve Gordon) and two of his friends. Soon they're running from a roach, riding toy cars down what will seem to them like a real roller coaster since they're so small, and they're watching their mischievous kids do things that they were told not to do. All the while, they have to find a way to get their kids' attention and be revitalized to being their real size.

"Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves" is great just like the previous two movies. Myself, I thought it was the best of the three. If you like "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" or "Honey, I Blew Up the Kid," I recommend getting "Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves." It has great special effects, it's an exciting adventure, and it's hilarious.

3-0 out of 5 stars Honey,They Shrunk The Movie!
Yes they did! This movie is lightweight compared to the other 2 as it was only about an hour and a half long. This was surprising.I feel it was made in a big hurry. However,it is still some enjoyable entertainment. It deserves no awards though.Nothing with so little thought does.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Discrace to all Disney movies
"Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves" is stupid to all movies, including the scene where the Szalinski Brothers (Pankin/Moranis) were showing their stomachs. I give this 1 star.

5-0 out of 5 stars This movie is hilarious!
My favorite comedy part was when the parents were all shrunk and Gordon called Wayne's wife Thumbelina. Also, it was funny when Wayne shrunk the Tiki Man, himself, his brother, and their wives, his wife notices the Tiki Man and says, "You thought you could outsmart me and shrink the Tiki Man so I wouldn't notice, well guess what.." and then she shouts at the top of her lungs, "I noticed!!!!!" That was funny. The cockroach and daddy longlegs were cool-looking, 'cept daddy longlegs' creep me out (heheh). I would recommend this movie to any Disney fan because it is really funny. I also liked the part when Wanye was admiring the "detail of this big roach turd". This movie made me laugh, and you will, too!

1-0 out of 5 stars Pathetic
Talk about bad sequels. Rick Moranis stars in this awful third sequel to the once-funny-and-entertaining "Honey I Shrunk the Kids". The concept basically plays the same way as the first film, but with the adults instead of the kids being shrunk and the inner house instead of the garden as the universe to explore. If you think this sounds interesting, think again. The movie is boring at best, right down an embarrassment at worst.

First of all, the continuity of the series has been completely flushed down the toilet. The only remaining actor of the first movie is apparently Rick Moranis. The actress playing his wife has changed, the actors playing the kids have changed, the ones playing the neighbors have changed... you name it. They try to make us believe this is the same family, but the results are puzzling to say the least.

Second, the story is a rehash of the first one, with not one bit of originality. All the few jokes (and there's barely any) and the dangerous situations presented in the movie are just copied straight from "Honey I Shrunk the Kids".

Third problem, the special effects. I'm sure this has been done on a smaller budget, but they are pathetic, way way worse than the ones appearing in the rest of the series. You're supposed to admire in awe these tiny figures exploring the huge domestic area, but you'll probably end up cringing most of the time.

Fourth problem, to locate the action inside the house is just boring. Only few things happen, and when they happen, they are not thrilling at all. The first movie was amusing because the kids were dealing with nature, the grass, and the bugs that live in it. In this one, the adults (which come up as rather boring, compared to the kids) deal with dust, a cockroach and a cockroach trap. Disgusting.

I don't know why the idea of releasing such a trite sequel to the already moribund series appealed Disney's executives, except maybe because they needed to cash in without spending five minutes thinking about something new. I'm warning you: leave this tasteless cash-in garbage where it should stay: getting dust on the shop's shelves. ... Read more

You've got to give credit to the Hollywood Knights. They may be crass, juvenile, sex-mad pranksters, but they have an open-door policy: nerds and jocks alike are welcome, as long as they show proper disrespect for authority. The Hollywood Knights, a minor 1980 cult comedy poised somewhere between the innocent nostalgia of American Graffiti and the raunchy humor of Animal House, chronicles the antics of a practical-joking high school gang on Halloween night, 1965. In tribute to the last night of their favorite hangout, a Beverly Hills drive-in marked for destruction by the snooty Chamber of Commerce, the gang's court jester Newbomb Turk (Robert Wuhl in his film debut) leads the Knights in an all-out assault on the forces of law and order, conformity, and good taste. Nestled in the parade of toilet humor, fart jokes, mooning rebels, and topless co-eds, however, are the ruminations of the end of an era: the times they are a changin'. The doo-wop and surf soundtrack gives way to Motown, the Mamas and the Papas, and the Byrds as high school sweethearts Tony Danza and Michelle Pfeiffer weather the transition from puppy love to adult romance and Vietnam looms on the horizon. It's a schizophrenic film, bopping from juvenile anarchy to thoughtful drama and back again with a sloppy but energetic drive and a rowdy rebelliousness that will never be accused of sensitivity, decency, or dignity. Fran Drescher, Gary Graham, and a hilarious Stuart Pankin also star. --Sean Axmaker ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hollywood Knights-A Hilarious "Cult-Classic".
This 20-year old film is not to be missed. This coming May, 2000 will be the first time it will be available, so make sure it's on your list of movies to check out! The film takes place in 1965 at "Tubby's" Drive-In. The central character is Newbomb Turk(Robert Wuhl)and his rambunctious gang of "Knights" running around their Town and playing funny pranks on themselves, the bumbling police and their school. Hollywood Knights is considered to be the clone of the many "Drive-In" type movies, most notably, "American Graffiti"(1973) but I guarantee you will laugh your socks off. This film is also notorious for featuring the debut performances of, Robert Wuhl, Fran Drescher and Michelle Pfeiffer. Tony Danza, Stuart Pankin, and Gary Graham also appear.

5-0 out of 5 stars A little bit 'American Graffiti', a little bit 'Porky's.....
... This flick about a car-gang, the Hollywood Knights, having themselves a major blast on the final night before their main hangout, Tubby's Drive In (Home of the BIG ONE) gets closed down by some conservative Beverly Hills beauracracy - - - -, could very well be the funniest movie of all-time as well as the greatest CAR-movie ever (it's an absolute SIN that it isn't even in MSN's Top 10 car-movies). 'Graffiti', as classic and deservingly so as it is, is a bit too politically-correct, PG-rated, a la Ron Howard/Cindy Williams. 'Hollywood Knights', however, gets STRAIGHT-TO-THE-POINT comedically even if a bit crude at times although not quite as crude as 'Porky's. Though the movie does 'star' Tony Danza (perhaps to sell more tickets at the time being that 'Taxi' was a current hit in 1980) and a young up-and-coming Goddess, Michele Pfieffer, it's simply ROBERT WUHL's rendition of NEWBOMB TURK that far-and-away steals the show and then some. For me to tell you just how hysterical this character is throughout the movie, I would not be able to finish beneath the 1,000-word-limit. That is why you simply have to get this one and see it for yourself. Yes, and to think that in the director's narrative (very worth listening to, by the way) it is told that Wuhl (this being his first role) was actually 'shy' and 'nervous' during shooting; amazing. Let's not forget Fran Drescher's role in this as well. Apart from being easy on the eyes, she is also such a trip; a real funny lady ("Did you come?! You're so inmatuue!!") 'Knights' is practically non-stop laughs and pranks throughout with the exception of the movie every now and then shifting to the cheesy love-plot between Danza and Pfieffer's characters (perhaps installed just to give the viewer a short break from laughing to death). Other, but more forgiveable, 'breaks' from the ongoing tomfoolery in the movie also include focusing on one of the Knights (played by the one who ended up on 'Alien Nation' years later) going off to Vietnam the next day. This segment of the movie's plot is an example as to why this flick is more than just laughs-galore but also touches on the end of an era. Conviently taking place on Halloween 1965, the viewer can feel THE 60s creep in as the movie goes on, whether it be the fact that there are ONLY FOUR Hollywood Knight-pledges wanting to initiate themselves into the car-gang when in years past, as Danza's character put it, "when I was in junior high school, everyone wanted to be a Knight", or whether it be the 8-TRACK PLAYER put into one of the hot-rods playing 'California Dreamin' by the Mamas and the Papas, or whether it be the young high-school street-surfer being told at Tubby's by his older peers to 'cut his hair', or whether it be the 'treat' that the street-corner do-woppers gave the four Knight-pledges while singing 'Under the Boardwalk', and simply the fact that A DRIVE-IN WAS CLOSING DOWN. Just like 'Fast Times' touches up on the 80s before the 80s BECAME the 80s (MTV) and just like 'Wayne's World' touched up on a time in the early 90s when metal-heads still had their thing going in the face of Nirvana and Pearl Jam (and Ugly Kid Joe??), 'Knights' focused on a fraternity of 60s high-schoolers that were still hanging onto the 50s just before finally having no choice but to drop (no pun intended) into the turbulent times of the day. 'Dudley', the 'nerd' of the flick ("Mother, I knooow! I knooow!), was a rather funny role as well and it was cool that the Knights ended up accepting him after putting him through an 'initiation' in itself. They allowed him the opportunity to have 'a life' well before the last day of school whereas the T-birds (in 'Grease') never accepted Eugene, even at the time of the carnival. This is definitely why...KNIGHTS RULE!

5-0 out of 5 stars A riot and well-deserving of all of the praise
Can it really be nearly a quarter of a century since I first saw this riotous film during it's initial theatrical release in early 1980? For years afterwards I had to content myself with watching it on and taping it from HBO and Cinemax, all the while wondering why it had never been made available on home video. Now, I am quite happy to say that I own the film on both VHS and DVD. I am stunned but not surprised by all of the reviews raving about this wonderfully funny film. Although Tony Danza and Michelle Pfeiffer are given top-billing, they are overshadowed by the hilarious and talented Robert Wuhl as Newbomb Turk, the little-known at the time, Fran Drescher as Sally and Stuart Pankin as Dudley Laywicker. The two bumbling Laurel-and-Hardy-like Beverly Hills police officers are also extremely funny. It has a great soundtrack of classic 1960's music, some great-looking 1960's cars, some great-looking women and also well-captures the flavor and the spirit of the 1960's. It is for everyone who has ever hung-out at the local drive-in, gone cruising and longed to return to a simpler time. The DVD, while it does offer a great looking transfer of the film, in both fullscreen (pan-and-scan) and widescreen (letterbox) versions, it is surprisingly and unfortunately double-sided. Curiously, it also features "bonus" trailers of a few later Michelle Pfeiffer films, but absolutely no trailers whatsoever for The Hollywood Knights!! This is one of the funniest films I have ever seen, along with Smokey And The Bandit, The Odd Couple, Dragnet and Planes, Trains And Automobiles. If you love The Hollywood Knights, I wholeheartedly recommend checking out the 1982 film Losin' It (another one of my favorites), starring Tom Cruise, Jackie Earle Haley and Shelley Long. It is very similar in tone and humor. What a pity there were never any sequels made to The Hollywood Knights!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Danza and Pfeiffer?
I find it ironic that Tony Danza and Michelle Pfeiffer grace the cover of this DVD. Hands down, that honor belonged to Robert Wuhl whose Newbomb Turk character made this movie the classic that it is. Danza and Pfeiffer have bit parts as the "love interest" and their story does little to move this flick along, but I guess they were the prettiest and most recognizable faces in the movie. (Well, Michelle's was.) I'm proud to say that I actually paid money to see this in it's original theatre run, and that for years one of my proudest posessions was a taped copy from Cinemax. To this day, my brother and I can still get a laugh from each other by simply saying "Lawrence......Lawrence of Arabia". This video release was long overdue.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious
The first time I saw this movie, my mother was watching it. She was laughing hysterically. She told me what the movie was about and I laughed along with her. This was about twenty years ago on HBO. Since then, my wife has purchased this movie for me as a Christmas gift. I still watch it occasionally. It is the funniest movie that I have ever seen. I feel it's much better than "American Graffiti", as that movie tends to be slow at times. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars spectaculer
Very well written and acted campy take on the early salem Mass. witch trials. Using the as of yet untested talents of some promising unknowns including
"police acadamy's "tackleberry" and also the mayor a star on "saving grace" . Bawdy raunchy comedy at it's naughty best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps you laughing long after the movie ends
This is probably the funniest movie that I have ever seen. One laugh right after another and array of characters as unique and hilarious as could be imagined. Never have the Salem Witch hunts been explained in such an irreverent manner. One of those "wait, wait, rewind it, I have to see that again" movies.
It will have you laughing long after the movie has ended and it will be one that you watch over and over and never get tired of seeing. Buy this movie and you will be glad you did. Laugh a minute belly laughs. Share it with your friends.

3-0 out of 5 stars More truth then they knew
If you like silly, zany, 2nd city type laughs, then this movie is for you. The comedy was relentless. Everywhere you looked, there was a subplot that was almost as engaging as the main plot. The part that got to me the most was when Ann Ramsey did her brief cameo at the end. She appears as the real witch and tells the Salemites that they are idiots. Her point was that a real witch would never have allowed the type of treatment that the town became famous for. The irony was rich. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be a Thanksgiving Day Classic.
This movie should be played in every household at Thanksgiving to show how the first Thanksgiving could have been like.

It is also a good movie to remind us "Americans" of how this country was taken from the real American, the Native Americans, and their people never compensated for it. A beautiful people pretty much ignored in this country. And if any actor could make one feel humbled by it, it is the endearing Adam Beach who did a wonderful job in this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars ¡Muy linda!

5-0 out of 5 stars Meeting of Cultures
This is a good historical family movie in the tradition of some that Walt Disney personally produced. There is action, suspense, drama and most of all heart to this story. Adam Beach is wonderful as Squanto. Squanto's encounter with the bear, his introduction to horses and his breaking of bread with the men of the Holy order are classics. I found it to be very entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Early Native American East Coast Area
Excellent use of early N.A. accoutrements and design. Story line easy to follow. Acting is very believable. Characters are stong and this movie leaves you wanting more. I bought it and have watched it many times. Use of native languages is a BIG plus.

4-0 out of 5 stars Supportive of Christians
A good movie, great for kids, enjoyable for adults, though not Academy material. Gives new insights into Squanto's life that are not usually known by the general populace and helps enflesh the legend. One of only a handful of Hollywood, general box-office, movies that paints Christians in a good light- worth seeing for that historical note alone. The monks and Squanto are the heros in the movie, and Christians are committed, imperfect, and redeemed. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't watch it all the way through at first.
Pretty scary stuff. I had to turn it off the first time I ever saw it. I did end up finishing it and have enjoyed it ever since. Every time I see it I spend the rest of the night swatting phantom insects off my arms and every little thing that brushes my leg is enough to send me rocketing to the ceiling with a bloodcurdling scream. Jeff Daniels played a good role as the main character who was...this was the only part of the movie that I felt was a little too plotted...afraid of spiders.

Julian Sands was great as the rather lofty, condescending professor, Dr. Atherton. I was disappointed, however, to see that a man who was written into the plot as an expert of spiders would honestly walk right into the spiders' lair and be killed off so easily. Maybe I just didn't want his character to die since I'm a fan of Julian Sands, but I still maintain that Dr. Atherton would not have been that nieve about the nest.

Anyway, moving on...all in all, I love this movie and the climax keeps you on the edge of your seat. You might breathe maybe two breaths total during the basement scene, when Daniels' character is fighting the father spider.

5-0 out of 5 stars Along Came a Spider...
Julian Sands, Jeff Daniels, and John Goodman star in this thrilling and sometimes funny film about a small town overrun by mutant spiders. The film begins as Dr. James Atherton (Sands) and his crew are in the forests of Venezuela searching for insects. What they find is far beyond what they expected. It seems that they have discovered a mutant strain of spider with a very powerful venom. Unfortunately for Atherton's photographer Jerry Manley, played by Mark L. Taylor, the spider bites and kills him. The spider also manages to catch a ride back to the States in Manley's coffin. It is here that the mutant spider mates with a regular spider, and the "fun" begins.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels) and his wife Molly (Harley Jane Kozak) have moved from San Francisco. Ross is about to take over as the town doctor from Dr. Sam Metcalf, but Dr. Metcalf decides against retiring at the last second, leaving Ross with no patients and a flock of mutant spiders multiplying in his barn. Soon, several townspeople, including Dr, Metcalf, are found dead, having suffered spider bites. After confirming his diagnosis of the spider bites, Dr. Ross summons the help of Dr. Atherton of ridding the town of the spiders, but will they be able to succeed before its too late?

This is a fun movie to watch. The acting, especially by John Goodman as exterminator Delbert McClintock, is excellent, and the plot, while suspenseful at times, does a good job of blending in some humor as well (Goodman's "That's right, I'm bad" line after squishing an unsuspecting spider is a good example). I highly recommend this movie. Watch and get a good scare and laugh at the same time.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you're afraid of spiders, watch out!
This is a clever comedy/thriller about an arachnaphobic doctor who, naturally, has a barn full of giant, man-killing spiders! Many intense scenes are filmed close-up and are quite effective. Jeff Daniels is great as the nice-guy doctor and John Goodman has a small but funny part as an exterminator ("Yeah, I'm bad!") This movie was filmed in the beautiful California coastal town of Cambria. The spider scenes are really scary, but fun! 5 stars!

1-0 out of 5 stars Filth
Time is turned back to the prehistoric dawn of humanity, when text books spouted propaganda that snakes, sharks, exotic spiders and their kin were evil and should all be brutally murdered.

Oh, the film? A group of scientists find a remote area in the world and unknowingly bring back a giant tarantula-like spider which mates with a little house spider (????) giving birth to hundreds of little eight-legged runabouts.

Haven't tarantulas and spiders in general already suffered enough abuse without films such as this reinforcing hatred and paranoia concerning anything eight-legged? All through the film spiders are crushed, burned and killed with ghoulish glee. The film isn't even very scary - the big spider in early scenes is obviously a rubber model being pulled along, and the babies are unable to kill in their thousands. And where did the giant queen come from? If something had been made showing gratuitous deaths of destructive pests such as foxes or mink there would have been a public outrage, but tarantulas (there has never been a recorded death from a tarantula bite) are considered fair game. It's true, some animals really are more equal than others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terror Has Eight Legs
Probably the first horror film released during the Nineties that can be called a masterpiece, ARACHNOPHOBIA is a deliciously inventive and appropriately paced thriller with a sharp sense of black humor and plenty of scares. Coming from Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment staple, it also marked the directing debut of longtime Spielberg right hand man Frank Marshall. And he could not have come up with a better story than this creature feature with a touch of Hitchcock.

The film focuses on Canaima, a small town in Central California, which, unbeknownst to its residents, is about to be overrun by arachnids with an appetite. Apparently, a Venezuelan spider had bitten and killed a photographer who was part of a scientific expedition into the Venezuelan rainforest. Subsequently, this spider hitches a ride in a coffin back to California.

Then when it mates with the local spider population, it produces a highly lethal strain of eight-legged terrors that begin to systematically kill several Canaima residents. And the only man that stands in their way is a big-city doctor (Jeff Daniels) whose greatest fear is, you guessed it--spiders!

Utilizing cinematic techniques he learned from Spielberg's JAWS, as well as Hitchcock's PSYCHO and THE BIRDS, and even a bit from the fine 1977 low-budget horror film KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS, Marshall weaves a highly suspenseful, sometimes morbidly funny, and frequently frightening, web. There is plenty of menace in the spiders' attacks, and Daniels' performance as the doctor paralyzed by arachnophobia is both funny and sympathetic all at once. John Goodman gives ARACHNOPHOBIA its sense of black comedy as the town exterminator who goes after spiders a la Rambo.

After the 1980s had seen only a scant few horror films (for example THE SHINING and POLTERGEIST) be claimed as masterpieces, ARACHNOPHOBIA was elevated to that level too. It is one of the most simple yet clevely plotted films the genre has ever seen; and like any good horror film, it has plenty of suspense and shocks. In short, it is a must-see! ... Read more

This is a terrible movie. Frank Marshall (Arachnophobia) demonstrates no control over story, actors, effects, or general presentation in this adaptation of a Michael Crichton novel about an expedition into deep, dark Africa that runs into an unknown race of killer apes. The big monkeys attack and attack and attack and have to be fought off with machine guns and lasers--that's pretty much the story, except there's probably an even better one behind "fourth Ghostbuster" Ernie Hudson's bizarre decision to speak with a British accent. While Marshall wants us to root for the human characters, they're all so obnoxious and unbelievable you can't help but feel lousy for the poor apes when they get chopped to bits just for defending their homes against these twerps. If you're not feeling enough environmentalist ire these days, watch this and get angry. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Preposterous, But Fun Jungle Adventure
In the tradition of H. Rider Haggard and "Indiana Jones" comes another blockbuster adaptation of a bestselling Michael Crichton novel. Up until now, this has not been one of his better known books, although it was a good enough read. The film is okay, but hopefully it will lead people to the even better book.

The story begins in the jungles of the Congo. An expedition of scientists has discovered an incredible find: a huge source of pure, blue diamonds. They communicate the good news back home, but before they can transmit their coordinates, they are suddenly attacked and killed. But by what?

Another scientist is sent in to find out. Dr. Karen Ross (Laura Linney), for reasons best left unexplained, attaches herself to a mission already bound for Zaire. A primatologist (Dylan Walsh) is returning his talking gorilla-she communicates through sign language-to her home in Africa. He is accompanied by a mysterious and very shady Romanian "philanthropist" with the unlikely name of Herkermer Homolka (Tim Curry). Karen comes along at a crucial time with a pile of money and is soon part of the gang.

Once in Africa, they meet up with Monroe Kelly (Ernie Hudson), their Great White Hunter "who happens to be black." That's when their adventure begins in earnest and it is a wild one. I won't give it away here-you probably wouldn't believe me anyway-but it is exciting and suspenseful, if never actually believable.

The screenplay for "Congo" was written by noted playwright John Patrick Shanley ("Moonstruck"). He has an odd sense of humor-witness his underrated "Joe Vs. the Volcano"-that is very much in evidence here. The story at times borders on the ludicrous and it is filled with all the delightful cliches that usually populate jungle adventure films (e.g. porters who go missing in the night, and a corpse with a diamond clutched in its hand).

Maybe the film wouldn't have worked any other way. I don't know. By making the story a pseudo-spoof, though, Shanley has removed the dramatic tension and suspense that made the novel work. Since everything is played for laughs-all too frequently unintentionally-then it is almost impossible for us to really get involved and care about what is happening.

Still, there is always pleasure to be had from a film that doesn't take itself too seriously and is not above poking fun at the customs of its genre. "Congo" has that, plus a few exciting scenes and some fun performances, particularly by Ernie Hudson. It is certainly not a great film, but it is a pleasant diversion on a hot summer day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why are these folks so critical, was the book so good?
I did not read the novel and while I won't say it's the best movie ever made (It's probably a four and a half in my opinion) I found it perfectly entertaining. Admittedly, I have read a lot of SF and like well made SF and adventure movies (Aliens 2, Matrix, even Bakshi's LOTR) but I also enjoy any genre of movie that is created with attention and art if possible and not with lowest-common-denominator formulaic design or for contract obligations. True, if your looking for dramatic acting, go watch "Boys Don't Cry", or "Men Don't Leave" (Movies, not a Four Seasons greatest hits compendium) Congo lacks the special effects of the newer Godzilla movie, but I enjoyed it more than the latest Star Wars movie (Phantom Menace) Congo, which I have watched twice on VHS and will most likely pick up on DVD, has, as one of the other reviewers noted, a Saturday morning adventure feel. It was tense and the gorillas were well done for monster movie make-up. The characters all unobtrusively played out their archetype roles. I recommend this movie to those who can keep thier minds open and who have a taste for adventure in a E. R. Burroughs vein.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT STORY-EXCELLENT MOVIE!!!
Definitely a great adventure and one of my personal favorites, Congo, brings to the screen a tale set in the African jungles involving an unlikely group that has banded together in search of a lost city and the rare diamonds that are rumored to exist there in abundance. The actors' performances are outstanding, especially Tim Curry whose "Romanian philanthropist" character steals the show. The plot, the jungle ruins, and the battles are all wonderful, making this film one of the best of its kind.
Congo is an action packed movie with strong elements of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider, therefore, a "must see" for those with a passion for archaeology, mystery and adventure.

3-0 out of 5 stars Before Python there was Congo
Made way back in 1995. A horror story about a lost city and killer gorillas. A research team is slaughtered by some unknown creature will locking for a dimon to power a laser. Design for communication. She goes on a quest across the africian border to retrive it.

What she things is an ancient legendary city and killer gorilas. Can the survive and get off the island. Before the volcano errupts.

If you like Congo I also recomend Raptor, Python, Phyton 2, Anadaconda.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertainment well done
I loved this movie, bought the DVD and watch it over and over the performance is so good. It is hard to single out any one thing. The musical score and songs are so good, I keep playing them over in my head. The scene where Dylan Walsh's character starts singing "California Dreaming" to Amy and everyone of the Africans join in the song shows the universality of music and song to people. As with any well executed movie, the details were done right letting the viewer enjoy the actors work. All of the priciple actors came accross as believable in their characters. The only mystery to me is the total lack of credit listing for Joe Pantoliano's participation and his character not even being listed in the ending credits! There must be some Hollywood Gossip behind that. Ernie Hudson really stole the show. The using of a British accent was genius. Since the English colonized and ruled most of Africa for years and set up most of the schools, an African guide would speak English with a British accent. The ending sequence with the volcano erupting and the land splitting brings back fond memories of 1940s "expedition" movies that always ended with such a scene.

"Congo" is entertaining, well directed, scored and acted. It is well worth the price of purchase and my only critcism (the devil is in the details) is the depiction of too few porters to haul the amount of equipment they kept coming up with for different scenes. Laura Linney's character was great! She had the best lines in the movie too.

Rent it or buy it, you will not regret it. ...

Granted, I haven't seen the first Mannequin but I'm sure it's good too. ... Read more

Life stinks--and if by "life" you mean this movie, then here indeed is truth in advertising. Mel Brooks totally missed the boat with this attempt at a comedy about life in the greedy Reagan years. He plays a heartless tycoon who bets that he could easily survive for a month on the streets of L.A. without a penny to his name, and then gets tricked out of his fortune. He winds up learning how the other half lives and it isn't funny. Literally. Watching this film, it's hard to believe it was made by the same man who wrote and directed The Producers. 5-0 out of 5 stars LIFE MAY STINK, BUT THIS MOVIE IS GREAT!
No, this is not your typical Mel Brooks comedy; loaded down with relentless slapstick comedy and sight-gags! IT'S TEN TIMES BETTER! Life Stinks, unlike other Mel Brooks movies, has real heart and soul. Yes, it's funny; but it's also very touching. In the movie, you get to "meet" some homeless people, who make you realize that; hey, they have real feelings and personalities too! I don't feel the movie pokes fun of the homeless; instead, it pokes fun at the rich guy who loses his cloak of money and then can't deal with the "realities" of life -(thus proclaiming, Life Stinks)! Again, this movie is NOT typical Mel Brooks, if that's what you're expecting. However, if you ARE expecting a movie that is wonderfully entertaining and worth viewing over and over again, then you definitely WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! BUY IT, AND JUDGE FOR YOURSELF!

5-0 out of 5 stars Moving and Hilarious
Mel Brooks is the greatest filmaker of all time. He's hilarious. LIFE STINKS is a charming, touching, warm, funny movie. I can't say enough good things about it. It's unlike any other movie because its daring and true. This movie is not fake. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Mel...What's the Point?
...the same premise was explored in the Landis/Ackroyd/Murphy piece "Trading Places" and that was hilarious. The Brooksian brand of humour was not working here because as the moovy went on
to things like being mugged and having shoes taken, they just could not be done funny...or at least not Mel Brooks funny. To the moovy's credit, it got Lesley Ann Warren in a bag lady drag that is quite funny at times, and touching at other times. (Elaine May could have gotten away with that role, not to take anything away from Lesley, though).

1-0 out of 5 stars Irrelevant and not funny
Life Stinks was the first real stinker in Mel Brooks' catalog (and unfortunately it wasn't the last.) I think Brooks had by this time exhausted all the potential for his type of humor.

4-0 out of 5 stars that "Little Bird" is going to leave you breathless!
Demi Moore came under intense public attention for those "pictures", little did they know she was going to star in a movie about going starkers...STRIPTEASE.

STRIPTEASE is one of those "guilty pleasure" movies that have a certain campy charm, it's certainly more enjoyable that it's bastard-sister-film; SHOWGIRLS.

Erin Grant (Demi Moore) loses the custody battle for her daughter when she is fired from her job. What's a girl to do? Go and shake her booty, what else?!!

Down at the Eager Beaver Club, where the beer isn't the only thing on the menu, Erin finds a job prancing around to such innocuous tunes as "Little Bird" and "Money Can't Buy It". Soon, a mysterious murder and a hilarious excuse for a congressman - Dilbeck (Burt Reynolds in an inspired performance) prove more of a hindrance than a help as Erin decides to expose her lousy ex-husband as the drug-pushing, slack-jawed yokel that he really is, all the while spinning around a pole in a G-string. Sound exhausting? Nah! We're only getting started!

Overall a pretty enjoyable caper. The DVD transfer is beautiful.

2-0 out of 5 stars 2 stars for Demi Moore
This movie is not a fully erotic movie as it might be expected. But it is not a clever and funny movie either. So what makes Striptease bad,I guess,is that it doesn't manage to satisfy any taste at all.

Erin Grant (Demi Moore) must strip for a living, and her biggest fight is against her ex-husband to get her little daughter back.Meanwhile a [physically excited] congressman (Burt Reynolds)gets fixated on her,a murder occurs and things get quite complicated.

Striptease has humor at times, but not much really happens. The plot,if there is any,is pretty weak. The only thing that makes this movie worth watching is probably Demi Moore and her dancing on beautiful Eurythmics songs. However other than those "music videos",there is nothing else to care about in the movie.I wish Eurythmics used Demi on their videos, which would make making a movie like Striptease unnecessary.

The DVD doesn't have a single extra as it suffers from being an old release,so I can not show any reason why you should buy this DVD,except if you are a hardcore Demi fan..

2-0 out of 5 stars NATURALLY BAD CONGRESSMAN WAS REPUBLICAN
"Strip Tease" was typical. In it, Burt Reynolds was depicted as so many Republican politicians are depicted: Stupid, immoral, greedy, corrupt...am I leaving anything out?

1-0 out of 5 stars Stunningly Bad Movie
This is a stunningly bad movie. The plot is basically Demi Moore's character as a single mom who needs money so she works in a strip club (yes, stripping) and has men problems (crappy ex-husband, lecherous politician). While Demi Moore looks great in this movie that was not even worth the two hours or so I wasted watching it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Movie Ever!!!
I love this movie... It is the best ever made and I love to watch it late at night, if you know what I mean. Demi Moore is the best when she starts stripping, I start stripping!

I watch this movie every night of the week! ... Read more

The date movie of the late 1980s, this had everyone arguing in the aisles. Does Michael Douglas deserve the unwanted attention he and his family are receiving at the hands of loony stalker Glenn Close? After a weekend extramarital affair with colleague Close, he returns home to wife Anne Archer, and Close becomes progressively angrier. You might even say she is boiling bunny mad.

Directed by Adrian Lyne, this is not your average thriller, as it garnered six Academy Award nominations. The plot is too obvious, but the dialogue rings true and the intense performances hold the story together. Anne Archer deserves kudos for side-stepping cliché as the strong but frightened wife, and Close is a scream as she chews up the scenery.

The film's original ending, which was reshot after poor preview screenings, has been added to the video release. --Rochelle O'Gorman ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic movie, intense.
This movie is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Michael Douglas and Glenn Close give life to this stylish, sexy and famous movie that was nominated for 6 Academy Awards.
The story is about a man named Dan (Douglas) who is happily married with a 6 year old son. And one day he meets Alex (Close) in a party and few days after when Michael's wife goes to the country with their son. Dan meats again Alex again in a meeting and they have an intense affair during those days.
It was all meant to finish there, as an affair but Alex falls helplessly in love with Dan and doesn't want to let him go.
Dan's wife returns from the country and he refuses to answer Alex's phone calls and messages but Alex is desperate to see him again and she even cut her veins to make him stay. The whole nightmare starts there and Alex won't stop until Dan belongs to her...
You will be watching this movie without closing your eyes beacuse it's full of suspence.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost
Except for the final scene (which I suspect was "borrowed" from Henri-Georges Clouzot's Diabolique), this is a solid film. In it, Director Adrian Lyne examines the consequences of a one-night affair involving two very attractive people, Alex Forrest (Glenn Close) who is single and Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) who is married and a parent of young children. While Beth Gallagher (Anne Archer, also "borrowed," from Jack Ryan) and the children are visiting her mother, Dan unexpectedly finds himself having drinks and then dinner with Alex. They feel an immediate and powerful sexual attraction to each other. Later, they spend the night in her loft apartment. Insofar as he's concerned, it was a memorable night, thanks ever so much, but that's it. Alex reacts differently, at first asking and then demanding that they continue the relationship. She even claims to be pregnant and at one point attempts suicide. Of course, all this is not what Dan had in mind but Alex forces him to recognize the significance of his adultery.

The acting is consistently strong but the screenplay allows for almost no character development, nor are the nature and extent of Alex's psychological problems ever revealed or even explored. Obviously, she is lonely and delusional as well as envious of the lifestyle Beth and Dan share. Only an actor possessed of Glenn Close's talents and temperament could reveal (albeit only in brief moments) Alex's tenderness which helps to explain her vulnerability to both real and perceived grievances. After seeing the film again, I still think the final scene in the upstairs bathroom doesn't work. In fact, I think it detracts from the narrative development which precedes it. On balance, however, Fatal Attraction offers solid entertainment even as it raises (at least in my mind) questions about the two main characters and their relationship which, for whatever reasons, Lyne and/or his screenwriters do not address in the film.

Hence my interest in the special features provided with the DVD version. They include a commentary by Lyne, "Forever Fatal: Remembering 'Fatal Attraction'" (which offers new, exclusive cast and crew interviews), "Social Attraction" (an analysis of the cultural phenomenon of a fatal attraction), "Visual Attraction" (a behind-the-scenes production featurette), rehearsal footage, and the alternate ending introduced by Lyne.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delicious
A horrific account of of bipolar/borderline personality disorders, this film is guaranteed to chill the spines of men who've had to deal with crazy and obsessive women. Close is dead-on in her portrayal of an insane, clingy woman who will not leave her target alone. The dialogue is also n
