4-0 out of 5 stars Basically copy of 1st flick, but still fun
If you caught the first flick, you'll find little different in its sequel, but "Legall Blonde 2" is still a bag of preposterous fun.

Planning for her wedding to law professor Emmet Richmond (Luke Wilson), Elle Woods becomes determined to (Witherspoon) track down the biological parent of her Chihuahua, Bruiser. Elated to find the dog belongs to Versace, Elle is shocked to find that the animal (and countless others) is subjected to testing by cosmetics makers. Losing her job at a tony law firm when she tries to make an issue of animal testing, Elle heads for Washington where she hopes to change the law. Linking up with an apparently successful and sympathetic congresswoman played by Sally Field, and learning the ways of Washington D.C.-style politics, LB2 essentially follows the pattern of the first movie - replacing law with cut-throat politics (initially hostile characters prove to be friends while friendly characters turn out to have their own agenda; Elle wins out over all using her mix of wackiness and wisdom). The flick makes good use of some side characters, like Bruce McGill as a right-wing conservative who, luckily for Elle, is a proud dog owner (McGill may best be remembered as the mysterious "D-Day" from "Animal House"; it's fun watching this flick thinking that his character may very well be the same as D-Day, only 40 years later); also Bob Newhart as a D.C. doorman who knows a thing or two about DC power politics (where was his character during Watergate?); but really belongs to a horde of extras mobilized by Elle to lead the fight on Capitol Hill. The moral of the story - never look down on the apparent savviness of your opponent who, though unsophisticated, is motivated by a cause they find noble. At least not in Hollywood.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's okay....
Being the complete opposite of the beauty-obsessed, cheery 'ditzy' blonde that Elle Woods is myself, I somehow manages to find the original "Legally Blonde" to be a really good, cute, funny movie. After all, at least Elle Woods is an animal-loving vegetarian animal rights activist. So am I. So naturally, I bought this movie.

The idea behind it is great: Elle Woods wants to save her dog's mother from an animal testing facility and end cruel animal research in the cosmetic industry for good using her new status in the legal profession. So it carries a great message. Sadly, the movie isn't much of a comedy at all. It isn't even all that entertaining. I probably wouldn't want to see it more than once, especially because Elle's constant "preppy blonde" antics are really starting to get annoying. Sure, the movies are cute, but let's face it: they're entirely unrealistic. No such person as Elle Woods could ever make it as a lawyer, let alone make it very far in the real world.

Sally Field and Bob Newhart aren't in this as much as you may be led to believe, either. It focuses on Bruiser, the dog. Somehow, a serious subject like animal rights gets Elle's comments on shoes, clothes, make-up, etc., thrown in every few minutes to really grate on your nerves and wonder how someone so superficial could also be so good, caring, and deep. There you go, deep: Not the best word to use for this film. More like "fluffy." It's definite fluff. Like her quote: "In this case, the price of beauty is too high....I can't believe I said that!" Ugh.

Still, if this is the only way to get across to people the problems with animal testing, it'll do. One woman Elle runs into says, "I don't think about it, that does the trick!" when asked to consider the horrible ways some animals get treated and abused. This shows the ignorance that so many people have that needs to change. A serious lesson in a movie that involves a Chihuahua falling in love with a Rottweiler. For corns' sake.

So while Elle's political views are right-on, the movie itself isn't exactly the greatest. Still, it's worth a see.

1-0 out of 5 stars Holy...
I saw this movie in the theater and I thought it was horrible. I didn't laugh once and this movie just bored me to death. It wasnt entertaining, funny, nor did it hold my attention. Then I had the misfortune of having to watch it again on a roadtrip (my car has a DVD player in it) and I just could not take it. THIS MOVIE SUCKS SO BAD! Stay away at all costs!

egally Blonde 2 - Red, White & Blonde (Special Edition)
DVD ~ Reese Witherspoon is just as good and ditzy as the original. Many people said that it paints a bad picture for women. I could disagree more. This is how men want women to act.

5-0 out of 5 stars Legally Blonde 2
This film is great it has a certain age. This film has an occasional use of bad language.
This is about a girl who has a dog poodle and she wants to be a lawyer but will she ever become one you wont find out yet.......
This video/dvd is excellent.I think the person who plays the judge is a great actor/actress and so is everybody else but the judge is best.
I like this film because it is funny and even more enjoyable.I thought everything was marvellous and nothing was bad. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Will appeal to some...
"Win a Date With Tad Hamilton" doesn't entirely succeed at what it is trying to do, but it doesn't entirely fail either. It might be considered the bizarro world version of "Pretty in Pink" or a far less cynical version of "The Purple Rose of Cairo." It avoids lampooning either of its settings, small town America and Hollywood. That's just as well, since there are other movies to do that. Instead it has characters who speak intelligently and behave reasonably toward one another.

I happen to adore Topher Grace, so I am inclined to be a little kinder to his character than I would be if he was played by, say, Joshua Jackson. Unfortunately, the screenplay doesn't share a fan's appreciation for a particular actor, and the movie doesn't capitalize on his strengths. Although nice to look at and at times appealing, he is a lot funnier and more charming on "That 70s Show," which I can see for free. Josh Duhumel steals the show out from under him, as a sincere but self absorbed A list actor who rehabs his image by dating a small town girl. I can't say I'm crazy about Kate Bosworth generally, but she does a competant job with what is an uninteresting character. (I was frequently distracted by the fact that she had two different colored eyes-- is she the love child of David Bowie and Jane Seymour?)

The movie makes some strange choices. Some of the best dialogue is spoken by a seen-it-all bartender, who is openly in love with Topher Grace's character. The actress is right for the role, but the character is all wrong to be someone overcome with unrequited love for Topher Grace's straight-laced character. The movie could just as well have saved money and given the dialogue to Ginnefer Goodwin, who plays an equally sassy friend of Topher's. Instead, she spends her few scenes as a third wheel and doesn't seem to serve any other purpose.

There are a number of things about "Tad" that don't work. The ending isn't entirely satisfying because the triangle isn't compelling or realistic. The 3 leads don't have much chemistry so I'm not sure either scenario would have provided a payoff. Watching the movie is pleasant enough, but it is already fading from memory.

3-0 out of 5 stars A pleasant little romantic comedy
Win a date with Tad Hamiltion! is a fun and well acted romantic comedy. Kate Bosworth stars as Rosalee, a grocery store clerke who wins a date with a big movie star that she has a huge crush on. Topher Grace (That 70's Show, Traffic) plays her friend Pete who secretly loves her. So when she not only goes on a date with Tad but falls for him hard, Pete is jealous and trys to compete with Tad to win Rosalee over.

Win a Date would probably have starred Molly Winwald as Rosalee, Anthony Michael Hall as Pete and Matt Dillion as Tad Hamilton and directed by John Hughes if it was made in the 80's. I only say this because it really reminds me of the type of movie Hughes would've made in the 80's.

It's nice though to have a movie like this now. It's well acted, has heart and you can never really predict whar kind of guy Tad is. Does he really have a thing for her or is he using her to heighten his career ? I wouldn't mind seeing Topher Grace in more movies. He has more charm and talent than fellow That 70's star Ashton Kutchner who gets more work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute, fun, extra point for cutting all Paris Hilton scenes
Like others, I was surprised at how much I liked this movie (probably had a lot to do with how cute Kate Bosworth is in it). It has its flaws (the depth of the relationship between Bosworth's character and Pete isn't explored enough) but it succeeds well as a romantic comedy with a nice message to it.

If you watch the extras you'll notice that all Paris Hilton's scenes were deleted (or at least I didn't notice any that remained). I give the movie extra points for this!

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute and Funny
I can think of a bunch of reasons for not liking this movie. In spite of all those reasons, I like it. It was cutesy and a bit cliche, and yet, it was funny and generally well done. I should mention that Kate Bosworth steals the show. I could not keep from watching her. She has a lot of potential for much more serious roles. She reminds me of Sally Fields when she was a teenager.

The story is vaguely familiar. The sweet girl in a rural West Virginia town thinks Tad Hamilton the actor is the greatest person on earth, not realizing that someone close to her is deeply in love with her. When she wins a contest to go to Hollywood to date Tad, she is ecstatic. This story could have ended here, but Tad is taken with Rosalee Futch (Bosworth) and pursues her back to West Virginia. The guy who has been in love with her most of his life, Pete Monash (Topher Grace), does not believe he can compete with Tad, though he does try. While the ending has some predictability, it also has some surprises.

One feature that crops up several times in this movie is a certain amount of cynicism and sarcasm. As one example, the scene near the end of the movie between Pete and Rosalee is nearly identical to an earlier Tad Hamilton film. Sometimes the cynicism is equivalent to a baseball bat to the head, and other times it is very subtle. You have to watch the movie a couple of times, and even then I may still have missed much of the cynicism.

Another feature of this DVD are the extras. The gag reel is pretty good, but I also liked the deleted scenes as well. There are a lot more extras than what is listed in Amazon, but the deleted scenes and gag reel are the best. A couple are incredibly hilarious. I was told that Paris Hilton is the blond woman in a couple of scenes, but I do not know for sure because I am unfamiliar with her appearance.

Good light entertainment with quite a bit of humor, and manages to keep from being overly maudlin. I like it enough that I'll watch it again.

4-0 out of 5 stars A thinker's comedy...
This movie was absolutely funny! Although a little drawn out in places, it was definitely hysterical, especially how everything falls together at the end. This spoof on 80's politics shouldn't be missed. But I don't recommend unless you followed politics and economics in the 1980s.

3-0 out of 5 stars Girls will be guys
First the good news: the acting, the makeup, the sets, the colors all add up to one of the most gorgeously campy looking films of all time. All three of the leads are very good. Having only seen Jack Plotnick in non-drag roles (Ellen, The Jenny McCarthy Show on MTV, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), I have to say he was very funny and his wig was perfect, but the real honor goes to Jeffery Robeson whose Varla (his off-screen drag persona as well) is so spot-on perfect that a few times I had to remind myself that this wasn't an actual woman. Even more amazing is seeing the male Robeson out of makeup (on the extras) as a nice-looking young guy.

The bad news is that as great as this film looks and is acted (at times, it seems to bring to mind Comedy Central's "Strangers with Candy" for the way the actors play many things straight), the film suffers from "Saturday Night Live" sketch syndrome: it goes on too long and runs out of humor steam. An hour or 45 minutes would have been sufficient for the film's running time. The plot gets stretched and by the time Evie's "speciamercial" revelation occurs, I wasn't laughing anymore. The sense of glee was wearing thin, and not even the pool party flashbacks could perk the film up again. Plus, the "naked" Evie was pretty gross and unnecessary.

All in all, a decent film with a generous portion of extras on the DVD.

4-0 out of 5 stars Watch it!
I thought this movie was brilliant, ESPECIALLY for a low-budget project starring drag queens. Funny. Irreverent. Great sets. Great script. Great acting.

If you're uptight and can't take an abortion or rape joke here-and-there, than this is not your thing. But if you're an intelligent person with a sense of humor who is at least mildly urbane, you'll love it. If only for the sets. Or if only for the one liners. Or if only for the performances.

Highly recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars different? What an understatement!
This wildly unapaulagetic 2003 re-make of the classic, Girls will Be Girls is a mixed bag, but the end ends up saving a lot of chaos that the first hour brings. The movie was kinda funny, not drop dead funny but it has some witt. The movie is very different, direction wise and script wise. I think the story is good but most of the scripting is pretty weak (besides the amazing climax). Overall funny, but not quite worth the twenty-five bucks I paid, although the special features made up for some of the movies' non funny slow points...

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe the funniest movie I've ever seen.
Seriously, I just about peed in my pants the whole time. My roommate and I were watching this movie and couldn't get over how funny it is. There are some slow parts, and in general you have to really dig that trashy, dirty and dish kind of drag humor, but if you do, you will love this movie

5-0 out of 5 stars Girls will Be Girls - Always and Forever!!!!
The story is about a young starlet who moves to LA and ends up rooming with a washed up alcoholic has been diva who may or may not have somehow driven her mother to suicide almost 25 years ago! Throw in another roommate who is single and barren, and searching for a doctor who performed a ... procedure on her. Oh yeah! And all female parts are played by men in drag!

I was shocked I loved the hell out of this movie considering it was made in someone's house and starred 3 drag queens. I am not a huge fan of the female illusionist, but here it worked to broaden out the already broad comedy! Seriously picture a real woman after being asked if she's ever had an abortion saying "Honey! I've had more kids ripped out of me than a burning ORPHANAGE!" No, only a man in a frock could deliver that and make you giggle. And giggle and laugh is exactly what I did in this whole film!

It's a hoot! If you like your comedy broad and crass this is your movie! And the special features are not too bad either! You get animated menus with the cast, deleted scenes, a trailer, and a pretty entertaining commentary from the director and cast. IT'S A SPECIMERCIAL! IT'S HUGE! ... Read more
