A lovely little movie
This movie isn't hilarious, but it is enjoyable and still relevant. Ultimately, the movie strikes a terrific balance--confirming the importance of maintaining a family through tolerant love, while dealing with what could have been a cheaply-treated scandalous secret. Gina Lollobrigida is a woman who has a nearly-adult daughter, but she doesn't know which of 3 WWII American servicemen is the father. She encounters a very "baby-boom"-ish concern--how to encourage upright behavior in her child despite her own suspect past--which is resolved in a satisfying but not simplistic manner. Strong but fallible men, strong but fallible women, and an uplifting ending. Good stuff, well done.

One of the Funniest Ensemble Casts
I discovered this film in the 80's, but remember when it was in the theatres in 1968. The material wasn't suitable for a 10 year old at the time. Still, I watched this film from a poor video taped from TV, and just howled. Phil Silvers plays the perfect schnook being married to Shelley Winters in the film, and being one of the three former "comforting" soldiers who was with lovely Gina Lolabrigida during the war. I don't know if they were nominated, but with their performances, both Lee Grant and Shelley Winters should have had Supporting Actress Oscars. Telly Savalas can get a little obnoxious, but still right for his role. Try this one for some great fun.

Very good
I like all the characters, all the places and Italy. this movie is really must see. And the plot is quite contemporaray after all those years.

Back to the Future
Had not seen this movie since I was 5 in 1971, loved every minute of it. All of the actors are 'playing themselves' great performances by Shelley Winters, Phil Silvers and Telly Savalas.A great classic that does not get much paly on tv or cable, so you have not seen it 20 times. Great look at American perspective on Europe, and how it has not changed much in the 30-odd years since the film was made. ... Read more

Master criminal Diabolik's got it all.He's got a black leather suit and ski mask, a pair of Jaguar XKEs, gadgets galore, an underground headquarters, and of course the ravishing Eva (played by Sixties Euro-hottie Marisa Mell).Together, the two of them pull off daring capers, staying a step or two ahead of the police, the government and rival mobsters all the while.Think the Sixties Batman TV series, James Bond, Barbarella, Matt Helm, and even a bit of Austin Powers for this distinctly Sixties crime romp.Director Mario Bava, as usual, made the most out of a less-than-lavish budget, with wild sets, an Ennio Morricone score, striking photography, and a psychedelic-soaked feel all the way around, with Bava's trademark camera work making it a visual delight in many scenes.Terry-Thomas comes in as a bumbling government official (the scene where his press conference is disrupted by Diabolik's "exhilarating gas" is a classic).It's all very tongue-in-cheek fun, based as it is on a comic book from the period.John Phillip Law, of course, is no better than he ever is as the rather fey master criminal, passing off his wooden performance as "stoic", but it works.Unlike contemporaries like Bond, though, Diabolik eschews the swinging Sixties life for a happily monogamous relationship with Eva (who wouldn't?).This is some goofy brain candy that's perfect for an evening of Sixties-retro fun.--Jerry Renshaw ... A Spy/Caper Classic
What is with some of these reviewers? Don't they get it? How can you compare this movie to Austin Powers or to Rambo or Ninjas? Who knew what a ninja was in 1966? This is a cool, classic, campy 60's caper movie. Who cares what Diabolik really is? He's cool as hell! That outfit. That Jag. Think of all the other 60's spy-isms that are present...The secret hideaway, the trippy spy-rock (great Ennio Morricone music) the bizarre sets, the psychedelic atmosphere. This movie's influence is all over (i.e. fellow gen x-ers - remember the video game SPY HUNTER?). This flick is right up there with Ipcress File, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and The Pink Panther as a classic of the brezzy/cool 60's spy/caper genre.

This movie is so bad it's terrific!
Danger: Diabolik is one of those rare movies where situations and characters are so completely ludicrous that you'll end up in the emergency room being treated for cracked ribs and torn abdominal muscles from excessive gleeful laughter.Never mind the movie's presentation on MST3K; on its own Danger: Diabolik is wonderfully entertaining because it tricks your brain into thinking of ways to deride it, and I happen to love films that can do that. One notable cast member is Adolfo Celi, whom James Bond fans will recognize from Thunderball, but he appears here sans eyepatch and speaking with a less-than-amusing voice. Though on this outing while he's not throwing his fellow criminals into shark-infested pools he does have the inclination to drop those who disagree with him through a trap door on his aircraft, thus increasing fuel efficiency and lightening the workload for his ditzy, shapely flight attendant... One of the movie's greatest assets is its soundtrack. It's pure 60's. Listening to it is like taking a trip in a time machine and arriving in some world whose inhabitants did everything they could to brighten it up without all the comforts, gadgets and insights available to today's world. Totally awesome, man! This videotape is recorded in EP mode, so your tracking may need adjusting in order to maintain Stereo-lock. And sadly, it's in pan-and-scan format, so you can't get a really good look at Diabolik's underground lair with its rotating bed, seperate showers, gold-testing workshop, and its many painstakingly-crafted artificial stalactites dripping from the roof of the cavern like the tears of mirth from audience eyes. First-time viewers are in for a treat; repeat viewers will likely end up in the hospital again...

Danger:Diabolik is based on the same Comics wich was very cool and Mario bava was the right man for a real action movie on Danger:Diabolik!
The Moviesets he created is so small but they looked like they cost lot of hundredthousand dollars, but the cost in real was maybe 1000 Dollar!??!
Its a great superhero movie with the typically colourimpression of Mario Bava, the master of Italian Cinema and the creator of the Giallo Thrillers.
Danger:Diabolik got some spectaculary and stunning action scenes,good looking chicks and a nice and cute superhero.

Total enjoyment
Once upon a time films were made with low budgets and heaps of imagination, and this is one of them. Though given a whopping $3M by the ego-maniac Dino de Laurentis (King Kong the atrocious remake) the genius Mario Bava brought this 60s beauty in at $400K. Even converted into today's hard currency it would be hard to conceive of a modern day director either struggling out of bed for such a miniscule sum, or ever bringing a film in under budget. Instead Bava treats the eye and the mind to a dazzling psychedelic modernist fantasy.
There seems to be a common notion that many directors of the past were somehow more stupid than the giant intellects of the cinema of today and that they had no comprehension of what they were doing. Bava knew exactly what he was making with this movie version of a popular European comic and that was to make a film that was fun.
Pitted against a world of old stilted politics, bumbling police and chalk-stripe-suited Mafia villains Diabolik, a cool ultra-thief with an underground lair to be envied by Dr No and every other evil genius, outwits his pursuers time and time again with a manic laugh, a delicious girl-friend and his 'n' hers Jaguar E-Types.
This film is a two-hour trip; the score is superb and the images have a vivid organic feel unachievable with today's over-processed CGI FX. If you love the visuals of Barbarella you'll love this. Bava, though, has a more cynical view of the world and in one scene presents us with a nightclub where villains ply the "innocent" hippies with drugs making them dance in hysterically funny ways that is just as an incisive critique of that era as it would be of some rave scenes today. Some things just don't change.
Sure if you want to adopt the brave stance of the post-modernist and assume the sophisticated position of The One Who Laughs At Bad Old Films then you'll get some kind of kick out of this. But you won't get anything like the kick you will by just relaxing into the brilliantly-lit mad world of Mario Bava where nothing is quite what it appears and baddies win - almost.

CHEESY, But from another time!
I really enjoyed this movie! The effects are very dated, but watching it transported me to another time! You can see how different things where just 30 years ago! ... Read more

A spaghetti sci-fi snoozer
Battle of the Worlds (I watched the VHS version) had both good and bad (really) features. Claude Raines, who was hot in the 1930's (Invisible Man), was quite the eccentric mathematician in this low budget Italian attempt at star wars. A mix of both Italian and American actors produced some entertaining voice overs to keep it in english. The acting is pretty rigid and the military emphasis is rather stilted. The film was shot in color for the earth scenes but the shots of outer space are all black and white. However, once they reach the "Outsider" planet and enter into its core, some fairly interesting color schemes emerge. I only paid [$$] for this one. I guess you get what you pay for!

"Increase the level of the micro waves."
A rogue planet hurtles toward Earth. Alien saucers emerge and engage toy rocket ships from Earth. The hostile planet has its own electronic super-brain. Irascible Prof. Benson (Claude Rains) tries to communicate with the "other" before Earth can blow-up the galactic interloper. The best visual display is the brief scene early in the film of forty-something Mrs. Collins bulging out of her tight swimsuit. Great cheeks. After that, the outer space FX suffer in comparison. What Claude Rains, of all people, is doing in this Italian sci-fi flick is a puzzle. This movie was produced in the same era as Rains' appearance as irascible Professor Challenger in "The Lost World." Perhaps, the producers wanted to exploit the popularity of that other '60s popcorn flick among pre-teens. Today this movie is of value only for determined fans of the esoteric delights of low budget flicks. The rest of the cast is as boring as they are obscure. The script is ambitious, but tends to go off in various directions that make continuity elusive. The rest of the film is too pretentious and somber to be good camp. Although, viewing an aging Claude Rains in a space suit complete with a bubble-glass helmet verges on comic. From this point forward, you are on your own. ;-) ... Read more

TOO BAD IT IS NOT LETTERBOXED
This is not a bad Spaghetti Western with snow, not bad for the price either, however this is a pan and scan print of obviously a 2:35 to 1 aspect ratio, but most of the action is central to the screen, so not as many "talking noses" per say....The print was grainy in some parts but oddly adds to the European feel of the film. Maurizio Merli does a credible job as the good guy and fahter figure to the boys and dog (German Shepard or Alaskan Huskie) and the heavy is played with his usual serving of ham by Henry Silva and a small supporting role by Irish star turned Italian film catylist Donald OBrian. Also for Spaghetti Western, the film is quite mild and very little violence or adult situation. The excellent score is by Carlo Rustichelli who scored several films for the late Gioseppi Collizi such as Boot Hill and Ace High. It has a few extras, for some odd reason an Little Rascal short and a dvd dictionary. I would like to see Lucio Fulci's White Fang and its sequel released as well on dvd...Overall this is not a bad family film

This DVD cover is missleading!!! This has nothing to do with the "WHITE WOLF WHITE FANG" The white fang in this movie is a German sheapard -- that people in the movie call a wolf! Get real there is a big difference in a Wolf and a dog!

The people that put out this DVD should not claim it is "Based on the novel by JACK LONDON WHITE FANG TO THE RESCUE"!

WHITE FANG
A young boy gains the trust of a wild wolfhound, which acts as a protector and best friend for the lonely kid. This comes in handy when he gets involved with a famous journalist (Franco Nero), who exposes a web of corruption in a small Klondike mining town, led by a ruthless grasping businessman named Beauty Smith (John Steiner).

WHITE FANG is a change of pace for Fulci. After directing the violent gialli LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN and DON'T TORTURE A DUCKLING, he decided to aim for a more 'wholesome' movie. He succeeds quite well, and is helped no end by excellent location photography (though some of the opening scenes do look like they were filmed on a stage) and decent actors. Though Franco Nero's lead performance is capable, he pales in comparison with the likes of John Steiner's greedy, seedy villain and Fernando Rey's drunken preacher, whose faith doesn't keep him from raiding the church collection box to buy whisky!

Unfairly neglected by film fans and Fulci buffs alike, this does deserve greater consideration, and despite it being intended for children, it does go a little overboard on violence, with a lingering scene where Fang duels with a grizzly bear.

Fulci's sequel, CHALLENGE TO WHITE FANG, has much the same cast and crew, and is also worth seeing - if you get the chance.

More excitment than the 1972 movie
White Fang once again bounces into action when a human friend gets killed by greedy gold-rushers. Fang and another human friend finds the body and the second man decides to switch idenities with the other. This sets up into a plot involving the murdered man's son, who is the heir to his dad's deed and the villains of the film kidnap him to sqander the fortune, while the man is falsely under suspition of the murder. It is then up to White Fang to save the day. This is the 1974 sequel to the 1972 "White Fang" movie from Italy, both from gore-horror film-maker Lucio Fulci. I kinda since the story to "Rescue" is a little blotchy. For instance, what ever motivated the guy in the first place to switch idenities with the murder victim? Maybe it was to protect the deed and confrot the murderers, but did it ever occur to him a stunt like this would get himself framed for killing a man? Who knows. And there is a little rusty acting on the human part. But "White Fang to The Rescue" isn't at all a bad film. As in the original movie, the best thing was the dog cast as the title hero. Even more of a pleasure to dog-lovers, Fang is given more to do in this film. He tries to rescue the boy from a bear, can open doors with his mouth, he again attempts to rescue the boy from the kidnappers, which is the best part of the film that shows what an unaverage smart canine Fang is. It's intresting that he can be savage or other times be loving and loyal like Rin Tin Tin. And watch out for a spatacular dramatic scene where Fang crashes through a glass window like the other film, and a tense cliffhanger where he puts his life at a limb saving the child one more time. Like its predicessor, 'Rescue" is good entertainment despite any little flaws. ... Read more

TOO BAD IT IS NOT LETTERBOXED
This is not a bad Spaghetti Western with snow, not bad for the price either, however this is a pan and scan print of obviously a 2:35 to 1 aspect ratio, but most of the action is central to the screen, so not as many "talking noses" per say....The print was grainy in some parts but oddly adds to the European feel of the film. Maurizio Merli does a credible job as the good guy and fahter figure to the boys and dog (German Shepard or Alaskan Huskie) and the heavy is played with his usual serving of ham by Henry Silva and a small supporting role by Irish star turned Italian film catylist Donald OBrian. Also for Spaghetti Western, the film is quite mild and very little violence or adult situation. The excellent score is by Carlo Rustichelli who scored several films for the late Gioseppi Collizi such as Boot Hill and Ace High. It has a few extras, for some odd reason an Little Rascal short and a dvd dictionary. I would like to see Lucio Fulci's White Fang and its sequel released as well on dvd...Overall this is not a bad family film

This DVD cover is missleading!!! This has nothing to do with the "WHITE WOLF WHITE FANG" The white fang in this movie is a German sheapard -- that people in the movie call a wolf! Get real there is a big difference in a Wolf and a dog!

The people that put out this DVD should not claim it is "Based on the novel by JACK LONDON WHITE FANG TO THE RESCUE"!

WHITE FANG
A young boy gains the trust of a wild wolfhound, which acts as a protector and best friend for the lonely kid. This comes in handy when he gets involved with a famous journalist (Franco Nero), who exposes a web of corruption in a small Klondike mining town, led by a ruthless grasping businessman named Beauty Smith (John Steiner).

WHITE FANG is a change of pace for Fulci. After directing the violent gialli LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN and DON'T TORTURE A DUCKLING, he decided to aim for a more 'wholesome' movie. He succeeds quite well, and is helped no end by excellent location photography (though some of the opening scenes do look like they were filmed on a stage) and decent actors. Though Franco Nero's lead performance is capable, he pales in comparison with the likes of John Steiner's greedy, seedy villain and Fernando Rey's drunken preacher, whose faith doesn't keep him from raiding the church collection box to buy whisky!

Unfairly neglected by film fans and Fulci buffs alike, this does deserve greater consideration, and despite it being intended for children, it does go a little overboard on violence, with a lingering scene where Fang duels with a grizzly bear.

Fulci's sequel, CHALLENGE TO WHITE FANG, has much the same cast and crew, and is also worth seeing - if you get the chance.

White Fang once again bounces into action when a human friend gets killed by greedy gold-rushers. Fang and another human friend finds the body and the second man decides to switch idenities with the other. This sets up into a plot involving the murdered man's son, who is the heir to his dad's deed and the villains of the film kidnap him to sqander the fortune, while the man is falsely under suspition of the murder. It is then up to White Fang to save the day. This is the 1974 sequel to the 1972 "White Fang" movie from Italy, both from gore-horror film-maker Lucio Fulci. I kinda since the story to "Rescue" is a little blotchy. For instance, what ever motivated the guy in the first place to switch idenities with the murder victim? Maybe it was to protect the deed and confrot the murderers, but did it ever occur to him a stunt like this would get himself framed for killing a man? Who knows. And there is a little rusty acting on the human part. But "White Fang to The Rescue" isn't at all a bad film. As in the original movie, the best thing was the dog cast as the title hero. Even more of a pleasure to dog-lovers, Fang is given more to do in this film. He tries to rescue the boy from a bear, can open doors with his mouth, he again attempts to rescue the boy from the kidnappers, which is the best part of the film that shows what an unaverage smart canine Fang is. It's intresting that he can be savage or other times be loving and loyal like Rin Tin Tin.
