On Christmas Eve 1999, two employees of the New York water company fall into a long-closed tomb beneath a water main. A Native American archaeologist (Françoise Robertson) discovers that the tomb contains the bones of a Templar, a sect of religious knights charged with protecting a golden key--the key to the bottomless pit in which the Antichrist is imprisoned. She's promptly attacked by the minion of the Antichrist, an ancient demon that possesses human bodies. Just as swiftly, she's defended by a hunky contemporary Templar, played by the increasingly craggy Dolph Lundgren. They concoct a plan to sink the key into a pit of toxic waste, and take off to a storage facility on her native reservation with the demon in hot pursuit, hopping from body to body. The Minion wastes little time in getting the action under way, but there's not a lot of imagination and almost no special effects. Lundgren intones such statements as "There is no joy in sin" and "Every human being I touch, I may have to kill," while a heavy-metal guitar wails on the soundtrack. Something of a cross between The Hidden and Endof Days. --Bret Fetzer ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome movie!!!
This movie is great, I was very entertained by it. Im a big Lundgren fan anyway, and it was cool to see him without a gun every once in awhile in a movie. The acting was very good i thought, he did awesome as he always does. The story and the plot was really awesome, and the Biblical references were great on the key and so on. God works in mysterious ways, well check this movie out its great!

2-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Bad
This movie is really really a stinker. All the action is poorly done, and comes off even cheasier then it should. Most of the acting is horrible, and the story is bland. Nothing in this movie does what it should (hello it can't even keep its religions straight). I would say that it was because of a low budget, but the movie had $12,000,000. They could at least have made some of the fights look good, but sadly no. If you are in need of a good horror movie rent "Kolobos" or "Bloody Murder" (the latter is super cheesy and low budget but is way better then this movie). Try something else because this is a pretty lame movie. Although it is still better then "End Of Days".

1-0 out of 5 stars worst movie I have ever seen
The people who made this movie evidently have never even seen a good movie. I work at a video store so I saw it for free, but I still feel cheated, I wasted an hour and a half.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dolph Lundgren - The Minion
This movie is one of Dolph's best, for his acting and the general overall tone of the film, Dolph plays a knight templar, an ancient order of warrior monks, whose job it is to prevent a key falling into the hands of the devils minion, if this key falls into the hands of the minion, then satan will be unleashed and armageddon will be upon the world. The minion takes over bodies by staring into their eyes, so the potential enemy changes frequently. Anyway I recommend this film highly even if you are not a fan of lundgren, there is enough here to keep anyone entertained.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
I saw this movie when it was on tv . The movie realiy draws you in it has a dark look to it . Very well written and acted . Dolph give his best in this movie . I have not seens such well acting and writing in a movie since "fallen"! This movie is a must see for just about anyone . ... Read more

great movie! cute kids, good acting! I saw this on the Disney Channel, and at first it didnt look very appealing to me, but I couldnt stop watching it, I loved it! Its great for kids of all ages!)

4-0 out of 5 stars very good movie
I thought this movie was very good. It is a touching movie about how a boy finds his inner courage. The kids are good actors. I think you should watch this movie. Its well worth your time!

5-0 out of 5 stars First time I give 5 stars
I usually don't give such high ratings but this one is a real unknown topper. 'Kids of the round table' was nominated for the 'International Children's Programming Special or Series' award, and believe me, it was well deserved and this film should have won. If you are a fan of knights, the middle-ages in general of just plain old cool adventure stories: this film is going to be among your all-time favorites. Johnny Morina is incredible in the lead. he just seems to be made for his platemail. I saw this movie for the first time at a friend's house. He bought it for a couple of bucks and was almost lyrical about it. After a few seconds I knew what he meant. The music is great, the acting is great and the plot isn't leaking on all sides like most plots of films specially made for kids or family viewing. It is a pitty it's currently not available though. I really hope this film is going to be re-released... Preferably on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars A movie with people to cheer for.
I avoided this movie because the title sounded like an old PI mystery. Happily, I was wrong. This movie is more like a good football game when your favorite team takes on the odds-on favorite. It's well writen and has charatars to love and route for. Saul Rubinek is a villain so charming and evil you just love hating him and watching him fall. During the final performances of Carroll O'Conner's life he played tough, big hearted guy who would do anything to protect his loved ones. (He played the same type of charatar in "Return to Me. 4-0 out of 5 stars Funny!
Great movie. Funny. This teenage boy lives with his 'rents and a little bro, puts up with a teacher from the oppisite of heaven, and has this major obsession with monsters. He has daydreams sometimes of monster movies with him and his brothe rin them, and sometimes his best friend. The kid's dad dies early in the movie, and (a couple months?) later his friends take him to a carnival to get his mind off of it. At the carnivel, the kid sees the "real" Frankienstien's monster. Later, the carnival packs up and moves out, but accidently leaves behind the frankienstien. The kid statches it, and decides he has to try and make it come alive as a kinda rememberance to his father. Does the monster come to life in the end? you gotta see it to believe it.

Still not quite interested? It's got RYAN GOSLING in it! A shot of him in black & white! If he was the main charecter, I'd give it 5 stars, but anything with Ryan has to have at least 4 stars :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Clever, touching &entertaining; a treat for monster lovers
For those of us who grew up with cinematic monsters, Frankenstein and Me is not only a poignant trip down memory lane, but a validation of secret childhood wonder-feelings that monsters do exist and, if one believes strongly enough, anything is possible. Director Bob Tinnell and his crew (filming exteriors on the very edge of the Mojave desert in Victorville, California while shooting the interiors in Montreal, Canada) have put their heart and soul into this production, creating beautiful, finely detailed sets and scenarios that stand as loving homages to such films as Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Brides of Dracula and Night of the Living Dead. Though the main character is 12 years old, don't be fooled into thinking Frankenstein and Me is just a "children's film." As Tinnell put it, this is not so much a kid's movie as a fan's movie. Clever, touching and entertaining, Frankenstein and Me is tailor-made for every monster-lover whose heart has remained true to his or her childhood dreams. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great thriller for kids over 8!
I saw this movie previewed before an audience of over a hundred school kids. By the middle of the movie they were cheering the heroine and totally engrossed in the action. Parents and kids will both enjoy the suspense, and the girl who plays the lead is great.

1-0 out of 5 stars "It's not good or bad, it just is."
Well, if you are looking for a good movie to make fun of, this is certainly it. The plot is rather ridiculous, and lacks realism to the max. Somehow a plane is struck by lighting, and this destroys several control components, and injurs the pilots. Somehow, the lights and radio are still functional, but a hole has been ripped in the side of the plane. But it's a good thing that the hole only sucks things out at oppoutune moments, but allows the girl to walk by without flying out of the plane on several occasions. And it's a good thing she has a cell-phone on board, for when the radio mysteriously explodes. And since there was no "do not attempt these stunts at home" disclaimer, I think I'll try jumping off the back of a refueling plane onto the landing gear of a nearby plane, hopefully suffering no personal injury, despite the high velocity at which I would be traveling.

Yes, a bad movie, but definitely worth seeing, it's a good laugh.

Oh yeah, and the box looks a whole lot like the box for Turbulence, another awesomely bad movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just Any Airplane Movie!!!!!
Okay, yes you have people flying in a plane and all of a sudden something happens, but this in not your ordinary airplane movie nor is it your ordinary DVD. Elisha Cuthbert (Are You Afraid Of The Dark) stars as Nicole, a 13-year-old spoiled daughter of parents who own a software company. On her way to her parent's convention, the plane she is traveling in with two of her relatives gets hit by lightning, knocking the pilots and everyone on the plane oncouncious except for her, and not to mention, making a hull-breach in the plane. Now it is up to Nicole to, of course, take matters into her own hands. She has many helpful tools and air-tower support to survive. Will she make it? You will never know unless you buy this DVD now from Amazon.com! This unique DVD comes in a very unique jewel case which is thinner than any case I have seen and saves space on the shelve. Upon inserting the DVD, the main menu has tons of action immediately. All the scene selections are displayed in full movie motion so you can easily see what you need to jump to without the hassle of guessing. Excellent movie score. Great acting Elisha!

2-0 out of 5 stars AIR(port 1975) + Speed (2) = Airspeed
Not much new here. It's all been done before. The title says it all. Same plots, for the most part. You're better off getting Airport 1975 and, if you must, Speed 2. Good for an afternoon popcorn movie though. Just make sure you have enough to keep you occupied.

1-0 out of 5 stars Are you all joking?
they should put this movie on mystery science theatre. must have been the funniest movie to make comment at i've ever seen. it had the most ridiculous plot. how come they didn't bring any profesionals in to help out. instead the air traffic controler guides her in. yeah, this is a keeper. be lookin for it on next year's oscars. ... Seducing Dr. Lewis makes a pleasant addition to the quirky subgenreof what might be called "village comedies"--movies in which the oddballresidents of a small village must work together to perpetrate some mildscam or bit of mischief (examples abound, from Waking Ned Devine toSaving Grace to Local Hero). The isolated Canadian communityof St.-Marie-La-Mauderne desperately needs a new industry, but the factorythey're trying to win requires a resident doctor. When a young doctor fromMontreal (David Boutin) gets blackmailed into spending a month in thevillage, the prickly inhabitants go overboard to woo him--they learn tocook Beef Stroganoff, form a cricket team, and tap his phone. It's all abit preposterous, but that's part of the charm; this kind of movie thriveson being just a tiny bit over the top. The daffy doings keep one foot onthe ground thanks to a combination of skilled character actors (likeRaymond Bouchard, who plays the town's struggling mayor) and mysteriousgirls (like Lucie Laurier, the beautiful postmistress). 4-0 out of 5 stars sweet and familiar
"Seducing Doctor Lewis" (or "La grande seduction") is the story of a remote Canadian community, an old fishing town, hoping to seduce a big-city doctor to move there so that a factory will open and take the town's population of 125 people off of public welfare.Following the precedent of "Doc Hollywood" and "Northern Exposure," the film highlights the attractive simplicity of small town life and makes it almost as irresistible to the audience as it supposed to be to Doctor Lewis. The film has a couple small, but glaring, conceptual similarities to its predecessors: 1) as in "Doc Hollywood," the doctor is a plastic surgeon--i.e. just the sort of person who needs an adorable small town to straighten out his priorities, and 2) as in "Northern Exposure" the doctor is looking at a limited, 5-year stint in the town, something that seems more plausible than seeing a young doctor dedicating his entire future career to a town of just over 100 people. All in all, "Seducing Doctor Lewis" is the seductive little film it sets out to be, nearly mustering a charm equal to "Waking Ned Divine."And one has to admire the filmmakers for sidestepping the potential cliches that the film's ending could have stooped to.David Boutin, also, plays a very likable doctor, while looking strangely like a Dominique Pinon whose body has been stretched to leading-man proportions.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Fun, Quirky Enjoyable Film
St. Marie-La-Mauderne, a small fishing village near Quebec, has fallen on hard times. The locals, including Germaine (Raymond Bouchard) collect their welfare checks from the post office and promptly cash them at the bank every month, proceeding from one to the other like prisoners going to the exercise yard. A company is considering the small town for a new factory, which would give the town an enormous boost, both morally and financially. The one catch is that there is no full-time doctor in residence; the company's insurance policy requires this. Germaine and his friends go about recruiting a doctor. Soon, Dr. Christopher Lewis (David Boutin) arrives, for a month trial. The townsfolk tap his phone and try to make sure that he has everything he could ever want. During the month, he also eyes the only single woman in the entire town, the post mistress. Will he be convinced to stay in the town?

"Seducing Dr. Lewis", a French Canadian film, is a charming little film, much like "Waking Ned Devine" or "Local Hero". The film depicts the lives of the people in this small town, making them believable and eccentric.

"Seducing" doesn't break any new ground, what it does is provide a sweet, sometimes funny little slice of life. As we are introduced to the characters and the town, we learn what life in St. Marie-La-Mauderne was like in the good old days, when fishing was lucrative. This is a funny segment and easily sets the tone for the remainder of the film. In present day, the town has fallen on hard times. Many of the people stay because this is what their entire lives have been. When things become so bad, some people start to move or threaten to move. The offer of a new factory is made and the town works towards that.

The arrival of Dr. Lewis isn't an entirely voluntary one. Many doctors receive the notices from the town and laughingly throw them away. Dr. Lewis is "encouraged" to visit the town and initially scoffs at the small town. As he learns that the restaurant serves Beef Bourguignon and the town plays Cricket, two of his favorite things, he starts to warm to them. Of course, both of these things are lies and the townspeople are merely putting on a show.

The film throws in a couple of complications along the way, to keep things interesting. The company building the town needs a certain number of people living in the vicinity, to adequately staff the facility. When company officials visit, Germain gives them a tour, following the townspeople from one location to the other, giving the appearance of a lot more people.

The outcome of the film is predictable, perhaps, but it is also good-natured. I know of a few people who will not go to violent films. They want to see happy films about people. Well, "Seducing Dr. Lewis" is for you. It is the perfect rental for a night in, after a tough week at work. Get some French take out and enjoy a visit to a sleepy little fishing village called St. Marie-La-Mauderne.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable!
I thoroughly enjoyed this endearing film. Lots of laughs too.Only one melodramatic spot to mar the beauty of it overall. The scenery of course was gorgeous and the village folk seemed real, not acting. Very very enjoyable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Predictable but charming...and lovely scenery
Set in a village on a small island in Quebec, this charming story belongs to a genre of whimsical films that are usually set in Ireland or Scotland -- about a quaint and remote village's relationship with the more urban, modern world. These movies typically emphasize the beauty of the area and the shrewdness of the villagers, and this movie is no exception. The villagers have been living on welfare for 8 years (the fish are gone) and desperately want the respectability of paychecks -- and there's hope of attracting a factory to the town -- but they would need a doctor in the town to get a factory. So -- they set about to attract a doctor. They manage to get a doctor to spend a month there (not willingly -- he's forced to live there for a month to avoid a DUI conviction) and from the beginning, are determined to make him love the village so much that he'll stay. They'll do anything to land this big fish, and that's where the comedy comes in.This big-city surgeon is no match for the machinations of these conspiring fishermen.

This film is predictable but charming. The seaside fishing village scenery makes you want to pack your suitcase so you can see it for yourself. It's a pleasant evening's entertainment but light.

This is a French-Canadian film with English subtitles.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cozy charm...
What will a village go through to get back their dignity is the question this film poses. And in this case, the answer is quite a bit.

St. Marie La Mauderne has seen better days. The town's main employment, fishing, has gone the way of the dinosaur, and most of the once-proud citizens have been on welfare for several years.Enter the prospect of a factory which would employ all who wished to work, but there's a catch:they require a doctor in residence. It seems like a hopeless situation, but then the citizenry get lucky--a Montreal doctor has an altercation with a cop who turns out to be the former mayor of St. Marie, and a month-long stay is negotiated. It is then up to the villagers to make the young doctor want to stay, and so begins their seduction of Dr. Lewis using, among other things, cricket, a tapped phone, and beef stroganoff.

In a way, it reminds me of Doc Hollywood, the late '80's film starring Michael J. Fox, who is forced to practice medicine in a small town after a car accident, but in this film the town pretends it is something it is not in order to woo him into staying.

I very much enjoyed this movie, despite my growing indignation as the film went on of the town's emotional manipulation of the doctor, who turns out to be kind of goofy and sweet. All is worked out in the end, thankfully, and the end is a satisfying and happy one.A very charming film...

4-0 out of 5 stars Review
Four stars: two to Sarrazin and two to Sheider. Good plot but mediocre script. This film is proof-positive that actors the caliber of Michael Sarrazin and Roy Sheider can carry a film, even as supporting actors, and make you happy you purchased the ticket!

4-0 out of 5 stars A really great action film.
I had first seen this film on Cinemax and I immediately enjoyed it. I got it right away when it was released on DVD. Roy Scheider's performance as the President was effective and convincing. I really liked the plot of the film. It kept me entertained and interested. I didn't think that this was a weak movie at all. I personally liked this film very much.

3-0 out of 5 stars Intelligent low-budget action thriller
This is a modest action film about nuclear terrorism, though it is one in a long line of films starring Dolph Lundgren that feature average storylines enlivened by some above-the-average scripting and some surprising plot twists. There is a diverting appearance in this one from Montel Williams, the talk-show host.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Average Action Film
a great film terrific action scenes Dolph Lungren finally has the role he deserves action blended with comedy. Lungren Plays a hotshot army piolt who gets the unwanted job of following the president of the united states everywhere carrying a black bag containg nuclear launching codes. 3-0 out of 5 stars Subtitles are better
This is a great flick if you can find the subtitled version. The dubbing is LIFELESS and horrible. I've seen "B" movies with Shannon Tweed that have better actors. However, if you're into the greatest game on earth, rent the VHS version with subtitles; it's worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars FUN MOVIE, HORRID DUBBING, WHY NO SUBTITLES?!
"The Boys" is one of those fun, non-cerebral movies that wasn't made with Oscar in mind. It's pure entertainment. The formula is trite: local amateur hockey team made of not-very-good players (though they mean well) has a gambling-addicted owner/manager/coach who's about to lose the team to a thug unless they win the next game. You figure out the ending. As someone else mentioned, a few of the jokes fall flat but it's still an enjoyable movie. Even though the ending is obvious, there's still enough tension during the final game to make it suspenseful.

The US version of the DVD is awful. The picture is fine, and the original French language track is great for those of us who are originally from "up north" and speak French fluently. But the English dubbing is *REALLY* bad: there's no emotion (the voice actors actually sound bored) and the voices really don't fit the characters. Surprisingly, there are no subtitles. The only extra is a filmography of some of the actors, but with no pictures to accompany their names, you don't know who's who!

Get your hands on the original Canadian release (either a quick trip to Canada is in order or check out HMV.com) with the title "Les Boys" for a much better product. Although the terrible dubbed track is still present, there's also the wonderful option of the original French track with English subtitles...MUCH better! The extras also include trailers, a filmography *with* pictures, and a 20-minute promo piece (in French) on a Molson-sponsored tour of The Boys playing hockey in arenas throughout Quebec.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quebec's top Box Office Champion
On the second weekend of November 1997, three major movies where released in Montreal. First was MGM's "Tomorrow Never Dies" with a budget of close to $100 million US. It was expected to be a hit like the previous James Bond "Goldeneye". The other one, was going to be the biggest blockbuster of all time, yet nobody new it at the time. It was James Cameron's "Titanic", at $200 million US, the biggest budget for a movie at the time. The third one, was a $3.5 million (in Canadian fund) comedy.

Legend says that one of the producers of "Titanic", looking at the first weekends box office results said "what the f*?%"* is Les Boys". The small French "Québécois" comedy was number one in Quebec, Canada. The week after, "Titanic" ruled, but "Les Boys" became the biggest Quebec box office maker ever, with only "Titanic" on top of it.

It is most certainly not for the movies quality that this became so. Its a formulaic comedy, with jokes that most of the time don't fly. Yet, the story is a David and Goliath one, about a group of middle age man, playing hockey on the weekends, that because of a bad bet of their team's coach, must play against a tough bully team. In the sterotypes that we see (the straight looking gay lawyer, the realtor with the big mouth, etc.), you have a good idea of how middle class "Québécois" sees themselves. And that's the reason it became a hit and spawned a sequel. That is also, why for anyone intrested in hockey or in French speaking Canada, they should see this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Un bon film Québécois
Un film à voir absolument pour tous les Québécois qui sont aux USA et qui n'en ont pas entendu parler. Un succès monstre!

1-0 out of 5 stars good movie lousy dvd
For starters this dvd isn't widescreen. It's full frame. The movie has both the original french language track and a lousy English dub, but no subtitles. So unless your French is very good, you are stuck with the vastly inferior English track. The movie itself is cool kinda a cross between Slap Shot, The Full Monty and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. ...

1-0 out of 5 stars Are you all joking?
they should put this movie on mystery science theatre. must have been the funniest movie to make comment at i've ever seen. it had the most ridiculous plot. how come they didn't bring any profesionals in to help out. instead the air traffic controler guides her in. yeah, this is a keeper. be lookin for it on next year's oscars. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Funny movie!
Brando is absolutely charming and hilarious in this dark comedy and the writing is first-rate. The cinematography of the woods and country is breathtaking and you really get a sense of this "small town" from the script and acting. Sheen and Church are fabulous in their parts although Sheen sometimes speaks a little fast in some of the comic punchlines, so seeing it more than once would be of benefit. The twin girls are lovely and cute and I daresay we may see more of them in future films.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humorous
This movie made me laugh. In addition to the comic elements, it had an interesting group of actors. I hadn't expected too much from the film, so it was a pleasant surprise.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of My Favorites
This is one of my favorite movies. I'm a fan of offbeat comedies like Stay Tuned, FRAUDS, Austin Powers and George of the Jungle, so this fits in my collection perfectly.
Thomas Haden Church really stands out as the dumb, loveable, cuddly Larry Lumstrum. He has an unusual shock of yellowish white hair, odd for him, he has golden blonde hair!
Larry might remind viewers of Lowell Mather from Wings. To tell you the truth, Larry IS Lowell Mather with white hair.
My favorite scene has to be when Larry is stuck in the black Dodge truck as the train is zooming for the vehicle. It reminds one of Marty McFly trying to jump out of the doomed DeLorean near the end of Back To The Future Part III.

4-0 out of 5 stars Brando has fun
The picture is by no means great, but for the first time in decades Brando is clearly having fun here, and there is no actor more enjoyable to watch have fun than Marlon Brando. It is by no means his best performance, but as he chews the scenery, savoring every bite he is a joy to watch.
