4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
An adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Feathertop", this play brings to life all the elements of that short-story. I performed as "Polly" (alias "Rachel" in the play) & its wonderful to see it dramatized.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scarecrow: A welcomed gem returns after 32 years...
What a pleasure to revisit this first-rate production after its 30 years in obscurity. Funny, serious and haunting "Scarecrow" is the colorful tale of a bewitched scarecrow, falsely disguised as the image of true love, and the awakening of his heart's desire to seek and claim his soul as his own.
This production is worth viewing just to enjoy Gene Wilder's compelling and earlier performances and he is joined by an impressive cast.
Pete Duel, as the real image of true love, provides important balance as the story's sole voice of truth and reason to Blythe Danner's spellbound maiden and Wilder's beguiling scarecrow. Will Geer as the central target of Norman Lloyd's Devil and his disciple, Nina Foch, are all perfection and terrific fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh my god!
I've been looking for this for years! I'm so happy that it's finally available! I saw the Scarecrow when I was a kid and it made a tremendous impression on me (it also made me cry buckets). Can't wait to order copies for everyone. Hope it's as good as I remember! Yay! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I.T. for Incredibly Tremendous
Sure, one can dissect this film the way a film-dissector dissects films. Throw those dissections away, though, and watch this film for the pure beauty of writing, acting, direction, score, cinematography, and genuine zaniness of ecclectica that ensues from the very opening scene til the last. I love this movie for everything that it offers and everything that a film-dissector says it could never offer. To me, it is a cult classic - it cannot be dissected like any other flick.

P.S. My favorite scene, other than all of them in general, is when Bernard sees Barbara Darling dance for the first time at the Go-Go club. It's as raw and real as life gets, or at least got at that time. Man alive, this movie gets 6 stars on a 5-star basis.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really good movie, much better than The Conversation.
I think this movie is one of Coppola's best, since there is no confusing drama/mystery in it(The Conversation). The plot is that a man has just moved out of his home and is going out with a girl he knew in high school. However, he also falls for a go-go dancer at a club the two go to. The movie is slightly dated, but it makes up for it with charm, espiecially the music. The acting is superb, and it's just a funny movie. I believe Coppola made this for his thesis at UCLA, I'm not quite sure. It's still good, so check it out.

3-0 out of 5 stars Coppola's University Thesis Film is Worth a Look
This was Francis Ford Coppola's thesis film at UCLA. It is a bit dated, but it also has a surreal quality to it that draws you in. By no means a masterpiece, it is still worth a look, and a must for Coppola fans. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The Worst Movie....Ever
This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. "Boring" is an understatment. Do not watch this movie. Do yourself a favor, and save your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining with talented cast.
A fine transfer of a classic television film. Bill Bixby shines as Tandy, a man who refuses to believe he has died and tries evereything to convince 'Morte', the excellent Jose Perez, to send him back for another chance. He is well suported by the gruff Stephen Elliott, the demure Valerie Perrine. Ken Mars does well as the stockbroker and Herb Edelman is also at his best. Full of quoteable dialogue, this is highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Steambath was pretty steamy for its day!
I first saw this TV adaptation of Bruce Jay Friedman's offbeat off- Broadway play on PBS Channel 28 in 1973 and was impressed not only by Valerie Perrine's nude shower scene but by the rest of the cast (Bill Bixby, Herb Edelman, Jose Perez, Shirley Kirkes, et al) and the bizarre story line -- an odd assortment of strangers find themselves in a Steambath, not knowing how they got there or why. The attendant seems to be the only one who has a purpose there. A terrible purpose, we learn as the plot unfolds! I saw this TV play twice back then and as far as I know it has never been shown since. But at least it's available now on DVD. I recommend it to all who enjoy a good comic fantasy with some serious overtones. The image quality is good, though a little soft (perhaps because it's in a Steambath?) but there are no bonus features except for some trailers for other Broadway plays available. Enjoy this effort from the early days of PBS when it was bold, daring and innovative -- you never saw anything like this on network TV back in those days! ... Read more
