5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Movie.
Surprisingly, this movie was excellent, if not for the story it told about the struggle of African Americans before the Civil Rights Movement, then certainly for the story it tells about homophobia, and the bigotry that exists in every community, minority or otherwise. I would recommend this movie to any person of color who is also an affectational minority.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very riveting, suspenseful, and powerful!
To me this is a story with many simple yet powerful messages. It quite accurately reflects the social attitudes of the 50s, especially as regards blacks (I won't go further for fear of giving away one of the plot twists). It forcefully leads us question our own priorities in life when making important decisions.

The story captures one's interest right away and doesn't let go of that interest all the rest of the way through. Going along with this, I must make the point that one just cannot help constantly feeling for the young man who is faced with the need of pleasing his father, on the one hand, and doing what is best for himself on the other.

The acting performances, especially by the young man, his father, and his lawyer, are powerful and forceful and don't sacrifice reality for the sake of dramatic effect. In fact, I found it very easy to put myself into the shoes of all of these characters and feel the stresses each one was experiencing.

The story is very true to life. It doesn't pull any punches and is told very straightforwardly and honestly.

In closing, I say that if I could give this movie a sixth star, I would do so. It goes without saying that it is a "must see," especially for those of us who are interested in facing life as it is rather than living constantly in a fantasy world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!! A eye-opening family drama.
Blind Faith is one of the best films of 1998. I truly enjoyed the content. I think that this movie shows one of the many struggles that African-American faced back in the days, other than being just black. This movie sends a strong message to those who might be dealing with problems pertaining to race and sexual preference. I think this eye-opening film truly deserves so sort of achievement award for it's courage in portraying an everyday ordeal of living in America against the odds. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Plots that move in mysterious ways.
FACE DOWN belongs to that class of mystery-suspense stories whose plot leaves you asking, "How did that guy fit in?" That guy is the REAL killer, but nothing in the movie ties him into the action except him's quick character switch. The fun part of this film is watching the other guy, Joe Mantegna, not-too-skilled private eye, get involved with one hot tomato, blonde client too many. You know the saying in Private Eye films when there's murder: "Cherchez le Private Eye." Mantegna was fingered for murder two which fingered him for murder one and he would have been fingered for a couple more murders, but time ran out; the REAL killer gets . . . heh! I can't give the plot away. See the film. It was entertaining and interesting. It will tell you whether Joe gets the girl. I was going to give this movie only 4**** but I gave it 5 because the dialogue didn't use too many cliches and the casting was definitely on track.

4-0 out of 5 stars Too much dialogue..not enough content
Romance movie plus a drama? Nice plot, witty dialogue just short on action. Standouts include a violent bathroom scene involving a talented unknown actor and Ms. Maroney and the evil one played by Adam Ant. Worth a watch

3-0 out of 5 stars so-so mystery movie with far too much dialogue.
For me, there was too much talking and plot to really get into this movie. with a crazy porn lady and a private eye who's "mysteriously" hated by everyone at the police station, one can only suspect that you might need a pillow to withstand this movie. the movie's shining glory, however is the "bad guy" played by adam ant, who is such a good bad guy. it's a shame that his part isn't bigger, but what the heck. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Disturbing
This is a thought-provoking and deeply disturbing film that examines the confrontation between weak minds and an uncaring world. Tom McCamus turns in a flawless performance as Henry Adler, the non-entity actor who wins a part in a cop show. At first, he draws strength from his macho cop character, but then - well, I won't say any more. See it for yourself - at least twice. This one is bizarre, but it's worth the trouble. Recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars Should have been better
The story seemed interesting to me which is why I picked up this DVD, but it fell short of my expectations. McCamus does a decent job in the lead role, but that's about it. The story is about an actor who plays a cop. He becomes so obsesses in his part that he starts acting out his role in the streets. The scenarios that he was put in were dull and the plot was undeveloped. Overall there was nothing new and nothing special.

5-0 out of 5 stars An honest psycho-drama . . .
Tired of watching dishonest suspense? A MAN IN UNIFORM will restore your faith in the fine art of mystery. It is an honest psycho-drama. Why is it that Canada is able to give us good movies in B packages? The script was excellent. The writers were faced with a problem of writing a script withing a script. They did a banging good job. The "cop" lead by Tom Mc Camus was played superbly. Five stars for Brigitte Bako's stupendous performance.

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
Interesting plot, and very well acted for the most part. Somewhat lackluster production value, but I guess that's not too exceptional from an indie film. Anyone who liked Taxi Driver or Fargo should definately watch this film! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Ah. I spent to much to rent this
I was expecting this movie to be great considering this was the guy from Brotherhood of the Wolf. What a disappointment. I fast forward through alot but still couldn't bring myself to finish watching it. The plot is slow and the actions sequences look like a TV shows.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better, Sorry Guys!!!!!
I thought that this movie was slow I expected more martial arts and a lot better story line from this movie, having read all the reviews on this I thought that I was going to see this awesome movie but I was wrongly mistaken.

This movie had the potential there but it lost it and was quite confusing in bits as well as being slow.

My recommendation is to see the movie first before you buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars To Be or Not to Be?
This is a movie that requires you to sit and watch. NO leaving the room for more soda or pop corn or you will get lost! This is not your usual muscle man/beat'em up movie. It's a thought provoker, which is what I like about this movie. But you still get the action that Mark Dacascos is famous for...but he gets to stretch his acting muscles too. As for the title I chose for my review, it's as thought provoking as the movie. In the end; this is the choice that Mark's character(Father Luke) must make! After renting it, bought it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mark Dacascos best overall movie to date!!!
Without a doubt this is Mark's most complete movie to date. The intricate plot, stylish flashbacks, and unique camera angels, makes this more than your average straight to video. Tibor Tackas shows a very good touch. The ending begs for a sequel, and I would pay money to see it in the theater if one were to be made. This is the type of movie that Mark is able to show the moves that have made him the envy of the action genre actors, and object of desire from female fans, but he is also is allowed to actually act and show depth. Tibor Tackus should be thanked for giving us more Mark than I have seen in his previous movies to date, except for "Only The Strong", which I like equally as well as this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review
This has got to be one of the best thriller-suspense movies that I have been priveleged enough to see in quite some time. Mark Dacascos shows both his acting ability (from killer to priest) and his martial arts capabilities in this 'secret agency' thriller. The ending is what will get anybody and everybody. This is a must see for anyone who loves action and thrills. It's even good for those men who love for things to explode. ... Read more

Michael Hurst's blood-soaked directorial debut only sounds like a vampire flick. This violent tale of a heist gone sour is indebted to Reservoir Dogs and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, but trades the jagged humor and colorful personalities of those films for an unremittingly dark ambiance of duplicity and double-crosses. The plot hinges on a rather implausible premise: grief-ridden father John Hurt agrees to pose as a wealthy kidnap victim for his estranged son (Nick Moran), a doomed punk car thief, and in return the kid will donate his heart to save his dying sister. The twist is that Hurt will not come out of this alive and he knows it--just part of the fractured dynamic of guilt and vengeance between father and son. That's actually only the first of many twists in a devious little thriller where practically everyone has an ulterior motive and a complete lack of scruples. Hurst's script, told almost entirely in a quilt of flashbacks within flashbacks, is built on a shaky foundation of dubious logic and unlikely behavior: more than contrived, it's downright unbelievable. But his execution is sound: he winds up the long night of scheming lies in a chaotic graveside shootout and a smart, satisfying, quietly redemptive conclusion. Joe Pantoliano costars as a ruthless crew leader with a wild white mane of hair, and Carrie-Anne Moss is the cool, calculating heist mastermind. --Sean Axmaker ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great unknown movie
New Blood was a very good movie and deffinetly didn't get enough credit. If your looking for a good exiting movie to get, id deffinetly go with this. The acting was very good, and the standout of the cast was deffinetly Carrie Anne Moss, who was funny, mysterious, and of course beautiflu all at the same time.
If you want to see a good underated movie, you have to see the New Blood!

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Guy Ritchie?
I caught this on Cinemax and thought it was another Guy Ritchie sequel to "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". I was surprised that it wasn't, but no matter. It's good fun, especially not knowing what's really happening until the very end. Its plot may be implausible -- and having a kid smart enough to pull off something like this, but still only a punk car thief -- but you'll believe every twist and turn.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good movie!
I gotta question. There are scenes where they wore black masks, does anyone know what the masks are called or where I can purchase one???

This was awesome movie that kept me at the edge of my seat. I gotta question. THere was a scene where they wore these black masks....Does anyone know what those masks are called or where I can purchase one???

4-0 out of 5 stars Twisted but great!
Ok, first of all I have to say this was a great movie! This movie takes you on an awesome ride full of twists and turns. In the beginning of the movie, Moran's character (a young doomed theif) arrives at his father's(played by Hurt)home after being shot, and with an offer he knows his father will not refuse. Moran's character's reason for concocting this plan, is to save his friend from death. During the entire movie your trying to figure out which story that moran's character told is true. Hurt and moran's characters seem to be caught in their own tangle of hate and distrust, that only seems to untangle when each is facing death. Close to the end of the movie I was left wandering if anyone would survive. For those who have not yet seen the movie I won't say who lives or dies, just that the ending is totally twisted. I recomend this movie to anyone who likes movies full of shoot-outs, lots of twists, double-crosses, and that don't mind movies that are somewhat dark. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Average Action with Too Many Secret and Conspiracy
I just spotted the name of Teri Hatcher (recently memorable in "Spy Kids") on the cover of this actioner. That sounds all the more interesting when you hear that one of the producer is Joel Silver, famous Hollywood player behind "Matrix." But the result is just exactly what reminded me of its made-for-TV origin -- no imagination, no originality -- despite the decent acting from Ms. Hatcher.

It starts very promising. Teri Hatcher's character Jane Doe is desperately trying to follow the orders given over phone, to retrieve her kidnapped boy Michael. The film plunges into thriller ala the third "Die Hard" flick, and Jane is ready to break the law if she had to. And she does, but it's too late to know that the kidnapping story is just the beginning of a long day.

It sounds good at first, but very soon the whole thing stops being interesting, with too many plot twists which you might find in "Swordfish" (yes, another Joel Silver production). But "Jane Doe" is clearly meant to outdo the labyrinthine plotting of John Travolta's villan, for there is some DIA (not DEA), there is Rob Lowe appearing and vanishing, there is conspiracy theory (and more than one) and so on and on. Frankly, I stopped to care in the middle of the story, being too confused.

As to its actions, don't expect much. As I said before, it's made for TV flick, and you know that soon enough, watching not-so-exciting car-crash or gun-shooting. At least, actioners like "Fair Game" had much explosions; here almost none. And about its corny dialogues, I have nothing to say except that the director is the writer of "Iron Eagle" series made in the 90s.

It is good to see Rob Lowe and Teri Hatcher still handsome and beautiful. That makes me feel inevitably that they deserve much better than this average action flick.

4-0 out of 5 stars An engaging action movie
Jane Doe originally aired on the USA Network in 2001, and finally it's made its way to DVD. I like this film, it has action, and an underlying story about a mother and son. Teri Hatcher does a great job, her first major role in sometime. There are some great one-liners, and to be honest, a few corny ones, but this is just entertainment, and shouldn't be taken too seriously. It makes for a darn good 90 minutes viewing - watch it and see what you think...

1-0 out of 5 stars Jane Doe is a dog!
This is an amazingly bad movie. No plot, bad acting, poor production. Warner Bros says it's 16X9 enchanced widescreen on the box, but they lied, probably to hype sales of this dog. It's 4:3, either P&S or full frame, I can't tell which. It's definately non-anamorphic. Shame on you WB. ... Read more
