The girls of Rock 'N' Roll!
Though we are led to believe that the stars of this movie are the Chipmunks, it's Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor who really steal the film. It is as gorgeous to look at as it is fun to watch! Oh, and I have to mention one of the two criminals, the brother Klaus, who is simply hilarious! And who could forget the comic bantor over the phone between Miss Miller and Dave! Some of it was right out of Abbot and Costello! This is one of those films that reminds you that the 80's wasn't a total loss, at least not when it comes to animation. But where's our merchandise? I want a Brittany doll like in the movie! I know some merchandise was put out, more based on the show, but it was hard to aquire then, and it's almost impossible today, even with the internet! Anyway, show! In this film we see the two aspiring musical acts in a hot air baloon race around the world, unwittingly playing the roles of diamond smugglers for a pair of unscrupulous criminal siblings. The Chipmunks are at their best in this completely entertaining film, but the Chipettes are better than ever! With the bigger budget animation we see art and movement that is a vast improvement over the TV version. What can I say, in this movie, the girls are adorable!!! I mean, a thousand times moreso than on TV, especially the lovely Brittany! This is one of those handful of movies that proves that non-Disney, non-Anime animation can still be GREAT!!!! The movie has very effective comedy, Excellent songs, and is surprisingly well animated. Not as perfect as from Disney, but the musical numbers are given special effort and come off spectacular! There are a few sightings of choppy animation in the film, but very few. For the most part this a great movie! Buy yourself a copy, and let's hope it gets the DVD treatment soon!

Awesome, and a Very Fun and Carefree Movie
Why is this film not yet out on DVD? Judging by the other reviews, I have no doubt that it would sell very well.

THE CHIPMUNK ADVENTURE is a classic; a true masterpiece; and should not be taken lightly. It has a great storyline, some gorgeous animation, and has a pretty good soundtrack.

There is not really anything more to say that hasn't already been mentioned in other reviews. This is just a very fun and carefree animated movie. I am a huge fan of The Chipmunks '80's television series; and THE CHIPMUNK ADVENTURE simply plays out like a pro-longed episode. While other movies based on television shows seem to "distance" themselves from the feel of a series, THE CHIPMUNK ADVENTURE maintains the same style exhibited on their show (not their original series; I cannot stand watching that LOL).

I truly hope that this movie is released on DVD. Up to now, there all only four chipmunks DVD's (available on Alvin & the Chipmunks official web site); only one of them being a "classic" program.

Hopefully, we will get more of the older stuff next year!

Memory's a Bit Blurry and Admittedly Biased.
First off, I used to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks when I was younger, whether it be by television or VHS tapes. I actually didn't care for some of the characters (Alvin, his female counterpart Brittany, and how Dave is always clueless) but the songs more than made up for it. When this movie first appeared on TV, I tried to catch as much as possible, and was instantly hooked. The songs were catchy with lovable lyrics, easy for young children to sing for hours afterwards, and, of course, the underlying message of strong family bonds throughout the entire second half of the movie. I can only hope that, one day, my children will enjoy watching this marvelous movie as much as I did.

Classic
My brother and I watched The Chipmunk Adventure so many times when we were little that even today, both in our 20s, we can recite the first fifteen minutes of the movie. The movie is fast paced and laced with very memorable songs. I bought the movie to share with my children, and I'm happy to say that it's one of the few movies from my childhood that hasn't lost its charm! I highly recommend it to all.

Chipmunks were among the best of 80's cartoons!
This movie is awesome! Animation, characters, storyline. All top notch and timeless. One of my all time favorite movies ever. I loved the Chipmunks 80's cartoon series and this film marks one of the best Chipmunk moments in my book. Saw it when I was 10, and still love it to this day (at 27). This just has to be released on DVD. I'll be among the first to snatch up a copy as I've just about worn out my personal VHS copy I recorded off of the Disney channel quite a few years ago. Fun 70s exploitation flick.
"Are they young rebels fighting for survival in a decaying society? Or are they hoodlums taking advantage of their youth?"
Directed by Jack Hill, SWITCHBLADE SISTERS is a cult classic that was sadly overlooked until Quentin Tarantino managed to get it re-released. Cinema snobs (People who think the only films worth watching are arthouse junk that make "statements") will look down on anyone who calls this a movie- but those of us who aren't pretentious geeks (i.e: ME, & hopefully YOU who are reading this) will see merit in this cheesy B grade sex & violence entertainment.
Also known as THE JEZEBELS & PLAYGIRL GANG, the movie centers around two street gangs The Dagger Debs: Lace (Robbie Lee), Patch (Monica Gayle), Donut (Kitty Bruce- Lenny's daughter) & Bunny (Janice Karmen) & their male counterparts the Silver Daggers; who run a drugs & prostitution racket at their high school.
One night at a diner the Dagger Debs try to recruit a customer named Maggie (Joanne Nail) to the gang after she pulls a knife on Patch & nearly cuts out her good eye. Unfortunately the cops sweep the place and Maggie is jailed along with the rest of the gang.
On their release, the gang decide to put Maggie through her first test towards becoming a member. This involves seducing some greasy gimp named Clutch (Paul Lichtman) & stealing his medallion as part of the initiation; but in an act of retaliation Clutch abducts & rapes Bunny, leaving her hospitalised in a critical condition.

This of course leads to an all-out gang war in the movie's latter third- with The Dagger Debs re-christening themselves The Jezebels & joining forces with the Silver Daggers & soon the streets are flowing with blood. There is however, some brief insight into the psychology of the gangs: an explaination one of the Silver Daggers gives for being in a gang is because of his insecurity over having a crooked willy. Now there's a plausible reason to go out and knife people!
SWITCHBLADE SISTERS is a fun explotation flick, but is a bit lacking in the T&A department (that's not to say there isn't any, though)- it's also worth noting that this was made four years before Walter Hill's THE WARRIORS which made this genre hip. Granted, SWITCHBLADE SISTERS isn't up to the standards of director Jack Hill's earlier classic SPIDER BABY; but for its kitschy late night entertainment value, SWITCHBLADE SISTERS is hard to beat. Check it out.

A terrible beauty
This film is top-notch comedy that is terrible on purpose. Kick back with your film student friends and show them this example of film for the fun of it.

Awesomely Bad!
This movie is great, horrible acting, super-low budget, very over-the-top. It's no West Side Story, but definately hilarious after a couple of drinks. Truly Le Bad Cinema!

Quintessential exploitation, in a good way.
I'm tired of people who consider themselves above the "camp" films they are extolling displaying their sense of superiority to the films they supposedly admire. For example, there is nothing at all "terrible" about the technical aspects of the Evil Dead films (read the other reviews and you'll understand to what I am referring) especially when their budgets are taken into consideration. As for Switchblade Sisters, let me just say that this is one of those quintessential flicks that blur the boundary between "art" and "exploitaiton," much like Jess Franco's better films. In fact, this is precisely what Tarantino did in Pulp Fiction: but since that film had a bigger budget and name actors, mainstream audiences reacted differently. ... Read more

This is pretty cool
The Chipmunks are pretty cool. They sing and dance and get in a lot of trouble. And then they meet Frankenstein and make friends with the poor friendly creature. But they have a little trouble getting everyone else to like him.

A Great Look To The Chipmunks!
It's a MUST-HAVE for any Chipmunk fan!
From an Artist's point of view; the animations are great! Everything is well drawn out and very accurate. All of the characters have a slightly different look (especially Dave) but they all look really good!
I highly recommend this movie to anyone that is able to turn on a TV and VCR!

The Chipmunks still rock!
I used to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks with my little sisters. I'm alot older now, and have a son of my own. He and I just watched this movie and we LOVED it. It can be a little slow at times, but still great to watch. I'm glad to see they are still making Chipmunk movies!!!!

Not as good as chipmunk adventure
Ok I amit the fact I love alvin and the chipmunks, I have since I was really little. This movie was ok, but not as enjoyable as the Chipmunk adventure, I loved that movie I still watch it over and over again. The 3rd movie was also better. This movie was a little slow and lacked alot of stuff, but it's great for little children, so it's ok in my books. But not 100% ok for any real chipmunk buff. you should still see it if you love the chipmunks.

Smart and fun!
I got a chance to see this movie when I was baby-sitting. The little boy I sit for, aged 2 1/2, absolutely adores this film. Perhaps he's seen it a few too many times (he's starting to quote), but it's one of the only films that can hold is interest for the entirety. He LOVES the songs; he even gets up from his seat to dance when the songs are about to come on. And I must say this is one of the only animated films that I actually like! The film's main lessons are friendship, responsibility and good manners, all which are presented effectively. The Chipmunks have a job doing a show at a big theme park. After one show, Alvin decides he wants to visit Dragon Land. The three of them set off on an adventure just *getting* to Dragon Land, as Alvin takes control of their little tour tram and takes everyone on a thrilling ride. Later, they accidentally pick up an extra person: Frankenstein's monster, who has been made by--yes, the REAL--Dr. Frankenstein, who has taken up residence in the park's castle. Frankie follows the Chipmunks home. This movie is never dull; there's always something going on, and it's a real treat for both kids and adults. Furthermore, you might not be able to understand what the Chipmunks are singing all the time, but the music is fun and up-beat. The movie also contains bits of humor for adults--and not the somewhat untasteful innuendo that sometimes makes it way into Disney films. Good, clean, humorous fun. ... Read more

Classic Chipmunk

Absolutely Wretched
This movie is so totally without merit as to be almost unwatchable. I bought this film for one reason only: I had really enjoyed the all too brief appearance of Mary Ann Appleseth in 'Planet of the Dinosaurs', and this was the only other movie that she was credited in; the tape was cheap, so I bought it. I should have guessed that there was a reason that it is not available on DVD, but I had no clue how boring a movie starring six attractive women (and some very homely men) could be. Made in 1976, this film is actually pretty tame, no more provocative than an ad for underwear in the Sunday paper is today.

The plot basically consists of the girls sitting around a living room telling made up saucy stories, interspersed with comedic hijinks involving (among other things): drag racing; a cat burglar who steals only feather boas; hillbilly moonshiners; the least scary motorcycle gang since 'Horror of Party Beach' (a much better film); and extremely ugly lingerie. Lingerie, as a general rule, should not be green with feathers.

The film is less offensive than just plain stupid, and would have been much more interesting with a couple of decent looking leading men and/or a serial killer. I let the movie run to the end, but spent most of the last half reading a technical magazine about airplane engines due to the stupor inducing boredom.

Did this movie have pretty girls? Yes, it did, including Debra Winger and the gorgeous Mary Ann Appleseth. Did the presence of these women make this movie worth watching? Not even for a second.

Lingerie modeling, yes. Acting, no.
Let's cut to the chase. The only nice thing about this movie is that the so-called actresses are dressed in one of the cutest collections of slinky babydoll nighties of any film ever made. The lingerie is comparable with Coppola's forgettable "bellboy" movie from the early '60s.

The acting is simply awful. There are several cameos by long-cancelled TV stars (Car 54's Ross, Sugarfoot's Hutchins, etc). It's a miracle that anyone's career could recover from such a bomb. It makes you really appreciate Debra Winger's drive as an actress.

Don't let the "57" date fool you. The only thing that seems particularly '50s about the movie is the music. The nighties are more mid to late '60s styles. There's also a scene where a movie marquee displays an "R" rating for a movie -- a rating that didn't exist till the end of the '60s. ... Read more

Follow the bouncing ball as you sing along with Alvin
This video is recommended for grades Pre-K-3. I've seen this video before. I'm surprised that it is out of print but if those little children out there see this video they will love the colorful cartoons. The chipmunks sing their own versions of "Ragtime Cowboy Joe," "Old MacDonald," "Polly Wolly Doodle" and many other songs too. Not only that but the words appear on the screen along with the songs. If parents had nephews or nieces who had seen this video with them before they'd definitely recommend this for their sons and daughters if they're between 3 and 9.

Awesome movie!
I saw Batmunk with a collection of other Chipmunks Go to the Movies, like that Robocop parody, Robomunk (?). I loved all the songs on it, and I wanted to find a soundtrack, but I can't find anything like it for the life of me...If you know a soundtrack to it, please, please email me and tell me where to get it, it's a must-have!

An Old Favorite of Mine
I think that the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie are just wonderful. I used to own this video and I remember countless afternoons of watching Batmunk fight evil next to my younger brother. I just think it is adorable how Alvin, Simon, Theodore, Brittney, Jeanette, and Elenor act out the parts of adult movies in a lovable childrens version. If you can get this movie I reccomend watching it!

I'm never goin to grow up
Dude to prove I'm never going to grow up I watched this movie. This was funny. As usual the Chipmunks and Chipettes put on a great performance with a few songs. The whole Theodore the bad dude image was funny...

What a way to Rock 'n Roll for Halloween
Overall the video was an interesting piece of work, especially taking something so serious of a story as jekyll & Hyde and turning it into an interesting comedy. The animation was pretty smooth throughout the movie and Most of the Chipmunks and Chipettes stayed in character (even when Theodore did his transformation bit). I say most as the thing which bugged me the most was Brittany's character. There are a lot of descriptive words to describe Brittany, but a "Valley Girl" is not her. Although I wish there were more than three songs in the movie, they did come in good parts of the movie. Overall the movie is pretty good except for the valley girl voice of Brittany. It's worth watching anytime of the year, especially at Halloween.

Great little special! Should please fans old and new
I love this video! it is a great way for kids to see Rock and Roll through the eyes of the Chipmunks... Will Smith even dresses up in clothes from each decade! You get to see Kenny loggins, Raven Simone, and even Richard Moll too...

What was really cool was the spoofs of Elvis, Beach Boys, The Beatles, and even Little Richard too!

It was even great to see some old toys and record covers that was sprinkled throughout the program too.. The Highlight is the music video With Alvin and Company interacting in a live action setting!

I love the video and would love to see it on DVD... This special was dedicated to Ross Bagdasarian Sr too... GREAT SHOW!!!!

teddy bears or chipmunks
When my daughter, who had just turned two, saw a chipmunk sing a long video in her grandmother's collection, she called them teddy bears. She is a big fan of teddy bears so she quickly requested watching it. It's always best to humour a two-year old so I let her and to my surprise she loved it. So I got her Rockin' with the Chimpmunks. She doesn't seem to like it nearly as much as Working on the Railroad chipmunk video, but she likes it some. I really think early teens and preteens would enjoy it the most. Adults may like it for sentimental reason, as it has a lot of old clips in it. ... Read more

a great kids movie
my 4 year old wouldn't leave the t.v. for this on

I loved it! Any fan of the chipmunks should read this book.
The author did a terrific job of writing this book, it was worded so that small children which this book was written for could understand it. It brought out the chipmunks good natured charms and humor. If you are a big chipmunk fan then you should definetly read this book. END ... Read more

Great movie but poor tape quality though... Want on DVD!!!
I had to return the VHS 2 times at the K Mart in my town to get one with the best quality.. This is a great video where Alvin gets the wrong idea that his grandpa was the original Easter "chipmunk". He goes on shows that spoof Court TV and Sally Jessy Raphiel!

Alvin thinks that the Easter Bunny sold out when the Easter Bunny asked for more money for Bunny Cantral! The only ptoblem is that the song in the cartoon was not done all the way through... We only hear snippets of it...

Still... I liked the special.. The Animation was great! The colors were vibrent and much care went into making the show... I want this on DVD...
