Michael J. Fox's Mikey is the Broadway Danny Rose of child actors. Aformer child sitcom star turned half-hearted agent to a stable of overeageradolescents, he finds a natural talent when he watches a 12-year-old pickpocket(Christina Vidal) work a crowd to tears. Of course, nothing comes without aprice, and the self-involved bachelor soon becomes the unlikely big brother tostreet-smart Vidal, who soon gives way to sunny cheer. Fox is such an inspiredcasting choice that most critics missed the undercurrent of self-loathing andloneliness in his impulsive irresponsibility and glib, effortless charm, andNathan Lane is hilarious as his overworked brother and business partner. Theydon't get much help from the script, which bounces between smarmy showbiz satireand warm, fuzzy family comedy and winds up as neither, but they manage to makeit funny nonetheless.--Sean Axmaker ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great , but don't make Mikey drink Chunky Milk next time!
This movie is great including Mikey (Michael J. Fox), and Angie (Christina Vidal), a great on-screen team, including the big singoff with that girl, and the part where Barry (David Krumholtz), threw up in Mikey's brother's (Nathan Lane's) hat, and where that girl kept singing "Happy Birthday to You." But, why did they make Mikey eat Fruit Loops with Chunky Milk. It's nasty! Next Time, you should rate it PG for Language, Crude Humor, Gross Images, Thematic Elements, and a Scene of Sensuality, because Mikey was having love with someone, while Angie moved in. I still give it a **** (4 out of 5).

4-0 out of 5 stars A Funny, Good, Movie
This was a funny movie. At sometimes it was a little confusing but good! I think kids who like to laugh or act would really like this movie. It has kids who are horrible actors, that make you laugh loudly. This is a Great Movie!

3-0 out of 5 stars When cute can't cut it
This movie is a cute story about a former child star who now works as an agent for other child stars.. unfortunately the business isn't doing well.. until they find a smart mouthed, 12 year old pick pocket who is "spunky" enough to get a gig. Fox was adorable as usual, a lot of the "child star" co-stars went on to be in some other movies except for Christina Vidal who has now gone on to have her own show on Nickelodeon. All I can say is the cast was fun, the writing wasn't bad but the movie could have used something. Just for fun, I will aslo mention that I was in a play with Christina Vidal later that year after the fimling of the movie...as for her acting? Well, I had the lead. I have to give credit where credit is due, she does have a lovely singing voice!

3-0 out of 5 stars A sweet-natured comedy
This is a likeable (if somewhat naive) comedy with perfectly cast stars in familiar situations. This is by no means a movie for someone looking for strong depth and unpredictability, but it is quite funny and sometimes touching.

2-0 out of 5 stars This Movie is Unfair to Michael J. Fox
I had been putting off watching this movie for a long time. I'm a fan of Cyndi Lauper, the actress (also Lauper, the singer, but that's not relevant here) and her resume is a little slight. With the exception of the amazing "Vibes", the odd "Off and Running" and this, the mind-numbing "Life with Mikey", there is nothing else to see. Well, okay, she has an uncredited role as "Picnic Guest" in "Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle", but that hardly counts.

So, in order to round out my collection, I bought "Life with Mikey". So far, so good. But then I sat down to watch it. Sweet mother!

Disney never seems to tire of showing us a) adults who have grown up to be big kids or b) unhappy, serious adults who would be better off if only they would loosen up and act like big kids. Now, I'm actually in favor of this philiosophy, but for some reason it never seems to come across on film. In this effort, the very funny Michael J. Fox plays Mike Chapman, a former child TV star who grows up to be a Big Kid. His apartment is a mess, he plays street hockey with the local urchins, he cons women and lies with a twinkle in his eye and we're all supposed to think he's charming as hell. Problem is, it seems that Fox has been replaced here by his stand-in, a life-size Michael J. Fox robot that has all the facial expressions down, but has none of the talent or charm.

Mikey works with his brother Ed (the underappreciated nathan Lane, reduced here to whining and mugging as though his life depended upon it) as a strictly low-rent talent agent for children. The agency represents a stable of losers and is about to go under until Mikey discovers Angie Vega, a con artist with "talent" who can save the agency, if only she'll agree to stop shoplifting in her off-hours.

Cyndi Lauper plays Geena Briganti, the brothers' secretary and the only character with any damned sense in the whole film.

This movie is genuinely touching. I teared up a little when I saw all these genuinely talented child actors hamming it up and pretending to be talentless in order to make the genuinely talentless Christina Vidal look good. These selfless kids try again and again to undershine every time they share a camera with the little tyke, but it never works. You're left wondering why the little urchin got the plum cookie role and not the little guy who does Ethel Merman impressions. Now that's hilarious! Or how about the dour kid who auditions with a Strindberg monologue? The screenwriters obviously had more fun writing these kids than they did the heroes.

In the end, "Life with Mikey" is a sad, disposable film that deserves no place in the careers of any of the actors involved. Except maybe Christina Vidal. ... Read more

There's more shtick than you can shake a stick at in this goofy sequel to the 1995 comedy A Kid in King Arthur's Court. Thomas Ian Nicholas returns as Calvin, a deceptively commonplace '90s teen whose pizza-delivery job gets him mixed up in an ancient quest to help Ali Baba save Aladdin--and all of Arabia--from the evil schemes of Aladdin's brother, Luxor. Just as Calvin relied on rollerblades and CD players to help him in the previous movie, his stash of contemporary gizmos gets him out of more than one jam when Luxor's henchmen come looking for him. There's a fair amount of F/X magic here--including the traditional opening of Ali Baba's hideaway at the command "open sesame"--but silliness is the real engine of this movie. (Ali Baba and his Forty Thieves? Try Ali and his Three Lamebrained Brothers.) Comic actor Taylor Negron is very funny as Aladdin's smart-aleck genie, stuck inside a lamp for a thousand years but hip enough to describe Luxor as "gone postal." --Tom Keogh ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun Movie for the Whole Family
I brought this movie home for my nine year old son to watch and ended up watching it with him. The acting and story line is good, and expect for a few bad special effects at the end (the flying carpet scenes are a little rough) it was a really good movie. (It helps that the princess in the movie is easy on the eyes..). A good rental choice. Four Stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very cute modern day Aladdin story :-)
I felt soo completly compelled to write a review here, after seeing those sad reviews. Come on folks this is a fun, cute kids movie, adults can enjoy as well. Very good for an all-around family movie to watch together.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
This was horrible. We were a captive audience at someone else's house and it wasn't fun, it wasn't original, it was just painful.

1-0 out of 5 stars so-so
I gave this movie 1 star because it was not original at all. It was a bad sequal to a good movie. Younger kids however could enjoy it and it does star a great role model of an actor. If you have youngsters they will probably enjoy it but 9 and older will probably not enjoy it as much.

5-0 out of 5 stars This movie was really interesting to little kids and adults.

4-0 out of 5 stars I come from the land up over
This is a must have for any serious video collector. Josh Kirby, a sprightly young lad of 13, wishes to do nothing more than race his bike at eXtreme speeds toward curbs, but when a vulgar artifact known as the nullifier component appears in his dog's crib JK's life is forever changed. It turns out that a slow walking-robotic suit infesting character know as Dr. Zoetrope is out to gather all these pieces and destroy the world. Fortunately for the universe JK meets up with the good-minded Dr. 1138 who is working to save the universe. Unfortunately Dr. Zoetrope is SO clever he may be able to destroy the world with just one piece. After the terribly choreographed slow motion fight scene between 1138 and Zoetrope, the aforementioned Zoetrope chaotically leaps into a rip in space-time, which cause Josh's universe to be flooded with lava. With nowhere to return, Josh stows away on 1138's time travel machine (which looks strikingly like a shuttle from Star Trek). Due to poor design the ship crashes on an Earth in a different dimension. This is when JK and 1138 meet up with Azabeth, a Xena Warrior Princess character. These three eventually end up fighting together and Josh, after knowing Azabeth for less than an hour, decides he loves her. The three amigos are then captured by a technically inferior, half wit people and chained to a pole for sacrifice to a "dragon." (How 1138 earned the title Doctor, we'll never know, but in just a short amount of time JK uses common knowledge to out argue him thrice, so suffice it to say 1138 ain't no Einstein!) It turns out that the dragon is no more than a claymation T-rex with the black knight from the Holy Grail on his mount. The amigos break free and fight the dino and defeat him with a large wooden pole. The dino gaily gallops away with Azabeth, who had been kicked by the beast and was laying on the ground. JK and the crew head to the village of their captors, not to fight, but to forgive. All is well in the village and the whole sacrifice incident seems to have been forgotten. The leader of the village relays a story to JK of how the king had been ousted by the guy on the dino, and that this man had made it his mission to severely oppress the 20 people in this village, while pretty much running the rest of the kingdom flawlessly. JK and his motley band decide that the new ruler is evil and must be stopped. In the meantime, Josh has been weaving a web of lies, telling the villagers that the time machine is a refrigerator for god-knows-what reason, as the villagers have heard of neither device and pose no threat to the ship. He also insist that his buddies not refer to the dinos and dinosaurs, but as dragons, furthering the ignorance of the villagers. This is about the point where I figured out that JK and 1138 are the real villains, not Zoetrope. We cut to the castle of the black knight who keeps hitting on the only mildly attractive Azabeth in front of his wife. Azabeth rebukes his advances and retires to her quarters. She is then forced to undress and take a bath, all while the knights wife watches from behind a rug. As Azabeth gets dressed the wife assaults her, leading to a semi-lesbian scene and providing laughs for all. We then go back to the village where Josh's simple-minded wisdom once again saves the day.

Josh: "If the black knight has a dinosa...I mean DRAGON, why don't we get our own dino...DRAGON?" 1138 and the Vilagers: "Brilliant thinking Joshua!"

So it is decided that the village should acquire their own dino. After stumbling about in the woods JK finds a poorly animated triceratops. He lures the obviously sickly beast around aimlessly for a while, and then puts a saddle on it. Josh decides this harmless, docile, vegetarian creature is the one destined to beat the T-Rex in a deadly battle. He then parades into the village, which has sprung walls and steps out of nowhere, and does a little dance. This is where the movie ends. Will Josh save Azabeth? Will his non-majestic triceratops triumph in battle, find out in the next episode!

-Matt Gifford

5-0 out of 5 stars Why does JK rock so hard?
Me and my friends were wasted one day and wanted to laugh at somthing, so we rented this garbage. Needless to say, I was blown away! Not only were the Dino-Knight claymation scenes pitifully hilarious, but the acting was off the wall stupendous! It even has a semi lesbian scene! Smoke some dank and watch this gem! ... Read more
