Aidan Quinn gives a fantastic early performance as Johnny Rourke, who he plays as a pensive combination of James Dean and Steve McQueen. Daryl Hannah gives her second-most-memorable performances (after Pris in Blade Runner) as the popular but unsatisfied girl who is attracted to Johnny's rebelliousness. There are several other young actors who would go on to fame (including Adam Baldwin and Jennifer Grey). But the film's biggest draw is it's amazing soundtrack (ironically enough, there never was an "official" release of it)... When I first saw the film, I was a big fan of INXS' current (at that time) release, Shabooh Shoobah, and I was thrilled by its extensive use in the soundtrack to this film. "The One Thing" and "Soul Mistake" play during opening scenes, and later in the film, director James Foley transcends the usual bubbleheaded attempts to copy MTV editing in films (most notable in megahits like FLASHDANCE and FOOTLOOSE) with a truly BRILLIANT use of the song "To Look at You" that actually manages to further the plot stricly through visual + aural means. Also brilliant is the prom sequence, when Quinn turns off the wimpy music and cranks up some Romeo Void in its place, then pulls Hannah into an uninhibited dance while the camera circles them at an increasing speed.. it's a truly exhilarating moment that ranks (in terms of cinematic choreography) with the famous "Do You Love Me" scene in DIRTY DANCING, and the classic moments of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. I love this film, and I still watch it often. It's like an old friend that I like to revisit now and then. It gets my highest recommendation!
This is one of the best movie i ever saw and, as explained before about the music, they stil bring me enjoyable moments to hear then.

The movie is good overall, really telling the story of the times when everybody was drinking and smoking too much, even our star athletes. It's worth a look. ... Read more

What makes the movie all the more interesting is the way it goes behind the scenes into the home lives and the hopes, fears and dreams of some of the gang members. We see Joey's artistic talents put down by his fearsome, aggressive father...we see Turkey struggle with his own identity within the different gangs...and we see Richie forced to take responsibility for his actions near the film's conclusion. Backing the movie up, is a dynamite soundtrack containing some top numbers including "Stand by Me", "Runaraound Sue", "Soldier Boy" & of course "The Wanderer" !! A movie that has charm & talent, and stands up to repeated viewings with ease...if you haven't seen it already....catch up with "The Wanderers" soon !!
this historical aspect on what gang life may have been like i also boight the soundtrack album and now have it
All the characters in "The Wanderers" are very human and believable, some performances are slightly better than others, but overall all the cast is uniformly well in their roles. Definitely "The Wanderers" is a very recommendable movie, the characters, the situations and the script (based in a Richard Price's book) are very good. This is an enjoyable movie from beginning to end.

The movie does a surprisingly good job in establishing these characters and identifying with the audience. This helps in many of the horror scenes, where you actually find yourself caring about the characters and getting drawn into the suspense. I personally found the final fight scenes with Norris and Libby very entertaining. Because of the invincibility of Libby's character, you can't help but to wonder how it's going to end. We know Chuck can't lose, but we also know that it's impossible for him to win. The ending was quite logical and somewhat frightening, since it takes you by surprise and you realize that it's the only way it can go. The movie does have it's problems though. It does have some lapses in the story, that appear deliberately put in just to get Chuck in some fights with bikers. I found much of the biker scenes somewhat silly and poorly thought out. Also, I had a problem with Libby's character losing his mind in the span of a few minutes, just because the people downstairs were arguing a lot. I realize that he was unstable to begin with, but he just calls up his doctor, says "I'm losing it" and goes right outside where he picks up an axe and turns into a viscious killer. All in all, it is a very entertaining "B" movie flick, that showed a lot more than just Norris wiping the floor with someone. To me, this is the only film of Norris' that I can think of, that I actually enjoyed watching many times. The reason is, that it does'nt just focus on him and keeps him more of an important character, rather than carry the entire movie. This is a good idea, considering Norris' limited acting ability, but exceptionally talented physicality . If you have'nt seen this movie yet, check it out. It is an early 80's low budget movie, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Regardless of its silly and contrived plot, Silent Rage does have moments of genuine suspense and a few well done action scenes. Norris, though still really wooden at this point in his 'acting' career, remains a likable enough screen persona. This horror/action hybrid may not work well as a whole, but it has enough character to it to make it worth checking out for those who like b-movies. ... Read more
