5-0 out of 5 stars I loved Bell of Innocence
I found Bell of Innocence to be a wonderful movie. I could relate to the actor that lost his child and lost his way. I made it a point to show the movie with others. I found it to be a movie that could cause a person to think about where they are in their salvation. I am in the proccess of trying to buy the movie to add to my collection. I highly recommend this movie!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...
The acting wasn't very good. Chuck's son can act a little better. The story is pretty strange. It seemed like a mess to me. 3/4 thru the movie I wondered how they came up with some of the story---it seems so bizarre. As the story plays out it's pretty predictable. It's easy to tell that Matthew (Chuck) is an angel. The fact that the lead would fall for the little girl wasn't very convincing to me. The villian in the film is a great actor, but the bad acting and the obvious really make this film lose its luster. The part where the three of them walk through the town like they're going to the OK Corral for a fight was weak and so cliche. I realized shortly after I started watching it that it wasn't going to be very spectacular. I guess I hoped for something better and ended up disappointed. On a good note, the music and special effects were pretty darn good (3 stars). If you like Chuck Norris' acting then you might enjoy this film. Otherwise, I don't see much to like here. The film is a very strange way to get across a christian message.

4-0 out of 5 stars An interesting story
Bells of Innocence is about 3 men who find themselves trapped in a bizarre Texas town. The people all act strange, and only one woman and a mysterious stranger(Chuck Norris) will help them. A powerful immortal controls the town with his demonic horde. Good and evil battle for the town and its children, and the 3 men will help decide the outcome. Their only weapon is their faith, but will even it be enough to save them?

BOI is a good film. The actors aren't that great, but the storyline is good and the special effects work for a budget film. It's slow in parts and could have used some serious trimming, but for the most part the story moves along. There are some action sequences with Chuck's son, Mike, doing most of the fighting (Chuck doesn't throw a single punch). Don't be mistaken though, this is a plot-driven story, not a fighting one. Even though this is touted as a Christian film, profanity is used twice in it (though I have no idea why you'd do that in a church film).

An interesting concept, and I guess it works. Imagine a Christian episode of the X-Files. The climax of the film is the payoff for watching it. It's just a shame that it takes so long to reach the really good part. But hey, it's definitely better than the Left Behind films. Recommended. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "Complainers? We don't need no stinkin' complainers!"
How can you resist a movie where they throw poodles out of windows, let kids drink from fire hoses, where Conan hacks people apart because some people turned a book in late? The movie does have its slow parts, but the spoofs and skits are absolutely hilarious. I won't tell you all of them because then you won't go and rent or buy this great movie. This movie is really good if you are a Weird Al fan, like REALLY off-the-wall humor, parodies, something that can make you laugh. Some people hate this movie, but I think it's because they're trying to see it as a movie. UHF is not really trying to be a movie, it's trying to be more of a collage of parodies. Anyway, see it for yourself. There's no telling how many stomach muscles you'll burst watching this hilarious film.

3-0 out of 5 stars OK?? What's the point?
~80's music and movies always scare me but this movie has a SMALL exception. This movie is about when George Newman, a teenager with no job, ("Weird Al" Yankovic) gets permission from his uncle Harvey (Stanley Brock) to run a television station with his friend Bob (David Bowe), the really weird janitor Stanley Spadowski (Michael Richards), the television reporter wannabe Pamela Finkelstein (Fran Drescher), and a laboratory scientist from another planet named Phllo (Anthony Geary) while trying to avoid another television company owner (Kevin McCarthy) from taking over his company U-62, and turning it in to a parking lot . This movie is what I like to call a "slapstick movie" which is a move with nothing but mere jokes and gags. Many of the zany programs on the station that George runs are called "Wheel of Fish" (A cross between "Lets Make a Deal" and "Wheel of Fortune"), Raul's Wild Kingdom", "Stanley Spadowski's Clubhouse", "Fun with Dirt", "Ghandi II" and "Strip Solitare". A lot of these things just don't make sense! This movie is rated PG-13 and has Language, Adult Content, and Rude Remarks. It's kind of weird but kind of funny in an odd kind of way. Raul's Wild Kingdom was hillarious when Raul (Cliff Stephens) shakes up an ant farm and says "OHHH! They're really mad now!" and when he throws a poodle out of a three-story window because he thinks he can teach it to fly. Ghandi II was also quite funny along with "Conan the Librarian" and "Spatula City". This movie is overall in my opinion, ALRIGHT but next time MGM/UA makes a movie, don't put Weird Al in it!~

5-0 out of 5 stars Cult Classic
If you are a fan of Weird Al's parodies, this is the DVD for you. I know some people don't get it (a.k.a: Roger Ebert and some other critics). Yeah, the plot is a tad weak, but the main focus of this project was to give Al an outlet into doing parodies of movies and TV. There are many priceless gags in the movie ("Raul's Wild Kingdom" and "Ghandi II" come to mind). There is also a fabulous performance by Michael Richards (a.k.a.: Kramer from "Seinfeld") as the station's janitor turned TV star. There are also appearances by Victoria Jackson (SNL) and Fran Drescher (The Nanny).
The audio commentary is fantastic. You get to hear about what inspired some of the scenes and also what was not included in the movie. You also get to find out why the DVD wasn't released until June 4, 2002! There are deleted scenes on the DVD in the bonus material including a fantastic one of Michael Richards ad-libbing an entire scene!

3-0 out of 5 stars weird al
if you liked weird als music, youll like this movie.its very silly but loads of fun.the kids will like it.if you are worried about how cool you are all the time and cant relax then dont watch this because its a movie for people who likewhat they want.individuals and dreamers.the bad guy is this old man from a tv station who is als rival when he has to run a tv station.this movie is very very funny.the bad guy is a real pain in the ass.its definately worth watching!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST of random humor!
I think this has to be one of the funniest movies i have seen in my life! just all the random shows in between the plot of the movie just make it like a family guy/futurama show mixed in with a healthy dose of random al. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The dubbing really isn't THAT bad
Let's face it. All of ADVision's dubs are awful, however Lost Universe is one of the best ones. Actually, it's quite good, in my opinion.

In my opinion, listening to a few annoying voices among mostly good acting and actors, I'd buy the dub so I don't have to spend $25 on a single subtitled tape.

4-0 out of 5 stars Slayers in Space - but so much more
From the creator of Slayers, Lost Universe has been perhaps unkindly described as "Slayers in Space", the tale of bounty hunters for hire who will trek across the galaxy to earn a dollar. While the similarities are easy to draw, it's fair to say that if you enjoy the humour and action of Slayers, and don't mind massive battles in outer-space, you'll probably enjoy Lost Universe. Oh, and like Slayers, the soundtrack rocks too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Laugh in Space
Taking place in the far future. Kane was a trouble contractor, similar to a bounty hunter, he took care of problems and criminals. Wielding a laser sword and slick fighting skills, he was accompanied by Canal, a bubbly, witty hologram who also happened to represent the ship's computer system A.I.. She was responsible for piloting and manning the weapons of the Sword Breaker, a very advanced spaceship considered part of the "lost ships" mythology. Milly, an ex-detective joins the crew because she was fired from the agency (and Kane was partly to blame), being intelligent and a sharpshooter, her help became useful. Most of the episodes took place in outer space and planets not like earth, but similar to it, with very advanced technology. Everything is high-tech; space ships that warp, automated defense systems, laser guns and swords, metallic worlds, space stations, hovercrafts. The creators of the show added so many little details to this hi-tech world that sci-fi fans would appreciate. Lost Universe contains all the winning elements of quality anime. The character designs, animation, sound effects camera angles and music are exceptional. All the main characters were very funny, charming, goofy and yet were able to get serious when it came down to business. The series has exciting action sequences that draw you in. Though sometimes the tech talk got a bit heavy, but the episodes were never boring because they made sense and flowed with a good balance of action and comedy. When the group got the job done you felt satisfaction. This is one of those animes that leaves you wanting more. This is a fantastic series! Good for all ages, ends on episode 26.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre for adults...
Maybe it's Kain's high pitched whining voice or Millie's inability to cook (blowing up kitchens? STUPID PLOT DEVICE FOR UNIMAGINATIVE WRITERS!). I rented the first two DVDs and so far have put off going further. I'll never buy the series unless it gets REAL cheap. This is a series for kids above all else; it's clean, pretty sexless, and for an adult not too interesting.

Bad points? Kain's flying around all alone but for the holographic projection from the main computer. I mean, give the guy a wife or girlfriend, make him human. I am tired of monks living in space. His voice is high pitched and whining, as I've stated before, but all things said there isn't any real reason he shouldn't have a significant someone with him. He just begs for being attached. I mean, I would love to see an episode with someone like Kain, his wife, his ex-wife, and a half dozen of his kids. CUT THE COOKIE-CUTTER MOLDS UP!

Millie comes aboard and she's the stock girl with gun, the crack pistol shot you'll find eleswhere ad naseum. She doesn't even develop into Kain's gal pal. She could, yes, and she could have a someone in her life.

They have some trite clashes going on.

There is the beautiful assassin.

Evil mysterious force trying to kill them.

In the end, adults buying a series for kids whom they do not want to expose to more adult themes should consider it, if they think violence is okay and real girl-boy stuff not okay. This is afternoon cartoon network quality. Safe and bland.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lost too many hours watching this...!
Misfit crew on a super-powered ship on a mission to earn as much money as possible - leave the universe in the hands of this lot and it *will* be lost!

I *love* this show..! Bought it on the back of the "Slayers in space" label that's been mentioned and yeah, there are some similarities, but that's no bad thing. There's some great humour, the animation's well up to scratch (apart from some of the CGI shots of the ship...) and, while the storylines aren't going to make you think too hard, it's good, light entertainment - just the thing for vegging out in front of the TV with :)

Don't expect too much in the way of originality, though - most of the ideas here have been used before. The important thing is that Lost Universe has slotted everything together in a way that makes for one great show.

Only given it a 4-star rating, though, 'coz it's not perfect & there's the potential there for it to get even better. Eagerly waiting to see what the next few volumes turn out like...! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This was a terrible movie.
Some army guy gets exposed to mutant DNA and he is transformed into a dog-faced monster. He is up against a soldier and two little kids, armed with a gun and whatever they can find in the woods, like rocks and sticks. This so called 'mutant' looks like something that would tear a human to shreds with his claws, does nothing of the sort. He throws and smacks people, bareley injuring them. Sound bad? It is. This movie does'nt deserve any attention at all. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre in English - Excellent in Japanese!
While the dubbing was alright in the first volume, from then on it unfortunetly goes downhill. Some episodes are worse than others, of course, but similar to the Slayers, (another anime by the same creator, it's a little more well known) it's best viewed in Japanese. I must admit the lame LAME lines used by the english Kane made me laugh, "I'm really one of the coolest people you'll ever meet!! Yeah!" but it really makes him into a completely different character. (He's supposed to be a little more serious - cool even!) The english dub of this volume is still enjoyable to watch, but it doesn't really compare to the english-subbed version. The dialogue, plotlines and even jokes seem more understandable in their original form - A lot seems to have been lost in the translation, unfortunetly. Also, the Japanese version features many big name seiyuu, like Megumi Hayashibara(Canal), and Hikaru Midorikawa (Rayle) as well as many others. After seeing both, I would choose the subbed version over the dub. It's a bit more money, but it's worth it in the end!

3-0 out of 5 stars Lost Universe is a decent series
Lost universe is a decent series, but you may find yourself a little bored during the first few episodes. Near the ending of this series is where the real excitement is. The same animators from The Slayers did the animation for this series. The resemblence of the main character of Lost Universe to Lina Inverse is amazing. The story of this series is very similar to Star Wars. This is definitely a series not to miss, you just have to get through the beginning episodes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interplanetary Anime
The second volume of Lost Universe brings us more adventures from our interplanetary animated crew. Crossing the galaxy in their ship 'The Swordbreaker', the action follows our heroes Kane, the resident fighting type guy, and his female companion Milli, the number one cook in the universe who's also pretty handy with the ship's sizeable defence systems. The Swordbreaker comes with the services of Canal, a female hologram who's on hand to help out when things get tight - which they do, all the time.

Lost Universe is an enjoyable anime with likeable characters, good humour and a story that will swiftly draw you in. Come for the eye candy, stay for the story - make no mistake, there is no escape from the Lost Universe. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally Recommeded for any anime lover.
I have the City Hunter Series, Movies & Comics and I have seen the Movies & Series in English, Chinese and finally in Japanese. I find that when you watch just the movies as I did at the start, you will be alittle confused especially if you are looking for a lot of detail as some details are cut out like LOTR when they made it into a series.

But if you are after a good action comedy then City Hunter: Secret Service is a keeper. I find somethings you just have to accept as far out facts. Like Kaori (Ryo Partner) who can carry unbelievable amounts of weapons(big ones) and Ryo has the skill to dodge bullets and side step exploding grenades.

The movies like the series (158 episodes) have the right amount of humour and action without sacrificing a story. Remember this is basically a comic book adaptation for kids coming home from school. If you read the Comics and watch the Tv Series. You will find some details that the movies leave out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not A Diehard Otaku But....
Let me begin by saying I am not a diehard otaku. I'm a casual viewer who prefers watching english dubs over subtitles, and don't go into hyperbolic shock if every little syllabal isn't pronounced correctly. I am however, a big fan of animation (been watching all my life practcally); and I've just recently began watching japanese animation. I've only watched a few titles thus far, but so far this has to be one of my favorites. Maybe because I know I'll never see anything like this on U.S. television. Joe (Ryo as he is known in the original version)
Saeba is a perverted detective with a no-nonsense take charge female partner who keeps him in check (he's always trying to feel up beautiful women--even his female clients!) with an odd assortment of weapons that often seem to appear out of nowhere. This makes for some hilarious moments. However the silliness is mixed with moments of good characterization and loads of action. Overall, I would recommend any City Hunter movie (or even the television series if you can afford it--be warned it's a subtitled release only) to fans of both action and comedy. I would've given the film 5 stars, but the movie neglects to provide an explanation for new viewers as to why Falcon (Joe's rival and friend) displays such bitterness and hatred towards one of the villians named Dunkirk. Other than that, I enjoyed it immensely.

4-0 out of 5 stars Looking for some action pack animation of cool characters!
Highly recommended as you are to witness some unforgetable characters on this city hunter DVD. Full of action, non stop comedy, and mostly the plot is good as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent City Hunter action
The lecherous mokkori/nookie chasing sweeper is back in action. A political figure hires Mr. Saeba to protect Anna (a cute girl who can beat up City Hunter without Kaori's mallets) At first glance the biggest threat to Anna is Saeba. But when assassination attempts, double crosses, kidnappings, and haunting memories come into play, Saeba is the only person who can put an end to the problems (while still trying to score with Anna).

This City Hunter special is just excellent. Possibly my favorite. A good plot. Plenty of humor and drama (without being too corny or depressing). Some cool action. And of course, City Hunter's mokkori attempts and Kaori's mallets of doom. Dub is consistent with the previous CH specials, except it sounds like they changed Falcon's voice.

A couple problems: At one point in my vid I saw some computer pixelizing (darn ADV quality control). And some Falcon's lines won't make much sense unless you know more about him. Other than that, a very enjoyable action flick. My friend, who hates City Hunter, actually liked this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars review from a new and hopelessly addicted Lost Universe fan
This was the first time I'd watched any of the Lost Universe DVDs, and now I'm hopelessly addicted! I'd heard about this series awhile ago and had heard it described as "Slayers in Space." Even though I was a huge fan of the Slayers series, this title didn't really spark any interest for the longest time. However, on a whim, I purchased this DVD one day, and I have to say... I really, really love it!!!! Even though I hadn't seen any previous episodes, I wasn't lost or confused when it came to the plot, making this still a great buy for newbies to Lost Universe as well as for the show's veterans. The characters are what make this series really shine. There's Kane, the cool psy-blade wielding, cape-wearing hero, Millie, the "best sharp-shooter in the universe" (or at least, so she thinks), and Canal, who is voiced by none other than by the famous Japanese voice actress Megumi Hayashibara! (Note: Watch the subtitled version with Japanese audio.. it's much better than the dubbed version!) Anyway, this show has funny moments that will have you laughing in no time, but it also has its serious and touching moments, too. The DVD itself has a nice menu screen with awesome opening/ending music. This is a must-buy for everyone!!! I can't wait to see more Lost Universe!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, Clean Fun
This is the 4th out of 6 volumes of the 26 episode series Lost Universe being brought here by ADV Films.

The story in this volume was pretty interesting, one episode actually made my eyes a little watery. You learn more about Kain's grandmother. Some soul-searching, some tests of friendship, but it's all good, clean fun.

The thing that really kills me about this DVD is the unstable video quality. At times, the picture will be amazingly clear and you can see the colors and the lines well. But the majority of the time, it's blurry and the colors aren't as bright as they should be. Another thing is that I think 2 times throughout the DVD, I saw this weird line at the bottom of my screen, I'm not sure why it was there but could be from bad transfer or bad masters?

Anyway, my final thought is that I like how we only have to buy 6 DVDs for the 26-episode series as opposed to like 8 DVDs. Saves money in my pocket and keeps me happy. Definately try this series out if you have not. If you liked Slayers or Outlaw Star, you'll probably enjoy this too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clues and Foreshadowing
After 3 totally goofy volumes, a serious story is beginning to take shape for Kain and the crew of the Swordbreaker. You find out why all the diverse villains are after Kain, and what happened(maybe) to Kain's Grandma. A "relationship" between Kain and Millie buds, and you see a totally new side to Canal. But what about Rail? Why is he acting so strangely? I guess we have to wait for Volume 5 for that! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The suspence was exciting
Great movie, excellent acting and truly a movie that sets you at the edge of your seat. I can't wait till friends see it, as we are all fans of this suspence type movie and it's good to see the quality of direction and acting that is in PLAYING DEAD. I will recommend this movie to others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Playing Dead
I thought this video was an extremely original portrayal of good verses evil. I found myself engrossed in the deceptive nature of Bobby's character (played by Mark Hanson), and I was not about to leave for popcorn. This suspense thriller will have you wondering how will it end, and who will be the one left to pay the consequences. This movie reminds me of the unique, gothic nature of The Crow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Playing Dead Review
This is an excellent and scary independent film. The acting and directing are superb, the sets are great, and I highly recommend it as Halloween approaches! Mark Hanson undoubtedly has a stellar career ahead! ... Read more
