4-0 out of 5 stars A natural choice: Mr. Magoo plays Don Quixote!
After the critical and popular success of "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" in 1962, the near-sighted cartoon character went from being the star of a series of second-rate animated shorts to the lead in a series of above-average literary adaptations. In this "Mr. Magoo Literary Classic" the cantankerous little fellow is off tilting windmills as Don Quixote, the knight-errant wannabee who heads off for adventures with the aid of the faithful Sancho Panza, who is certainly more confused in this peculiar telling of the great novel by Cervantes. Younger viewers will certainly get a sense of the novel from this 50-minute video tape, although a bit of the spirit is missing. While on the one hand Magoo playing Don Quixote makes perfect sense, when mistaking a windmill for a giant is because of extremely bad eyesight instead of the result of a deluded mind, it does make a big difference. As always, the vocal work of Jim Backus is superb, and there are several moments where Magoo clearly assumes the Don Quixote persona quite nicely. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids under three!
This movie is great for kids under three or amnesia victims, who don't remember what a good movie is! This movie is terribly unfunny and grossly unrealistic. The stunts are very impossible and fake, the acting and the jokes are crap. The only use for this DVD would be to use the disc as a frisbee, the booklet as toilet paper, and the case for recycling. That's the only way to get your money out of it. Don't buy this movie for any reason! It is very boring and stupid!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie For The Family
Hilarious stunts, slapstick humor, outrageous characterizations, and just good all around schtick makes this an extremely entertaining movie for the family. The people who put this movie together realize that it was not intended for a cerebral study in filmmaking; it was meant to just flat out make you laugh. My wife and kids were just howling at various scenes ranging from the stinky lunch room to the slammy whammy infomercial. We must have replayed that slammy whammy infomercial over 20 times, proving how kids can appreciate well written comedy. This movie is not for the prudes, snobs, or bores but definitely for the hip, open minded, slapstick in most of us. Watch it with the family without any hesitation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny movie
This was a very funny movie, it had me rolling on the floor. Even my mom laughed a little, and she hates the movies I like. The story is Super Dave (Bob Einstien) is injured, and has to retire. But DJ (Steve Van Wormer), a kid he is training, steals his name and leaves him to work for Gil (Dan Hedaya). Well, Supe isn't going to really do anything about, but he meets a single mom (Gia Carides), whose son needs an expensive operation, and he falls in love. So the Super One decides to come out of retirement and show the world who the real greatest daredevil is. Very entertaining, and the direction is fun. The DVD could have at least had the trailer on it, though. I really wish this movie had come out in theatres, because it would have been great to see Super on the big screen. Long live Super Dave Osborne!

4-0 out of 5 stars Super Dave's new move is great
I thought it was a great movie. Anyone who watches this film will laugh almost as much as they probably did when they watched the first Austin Powers movie. Even if you have to clue who Super Dave is, it is still a very funny movie. I can't believe that this was never released in the movie theaters. ... Read more

Someone got the rather inspired (but ultimately misguided) idea to match Hong Kong action director Stanley Tong with comedy stalwart Leslie Nielsen in this dimwitted live-action Disney version of the vintage cartoon, in which the very nearsighted tycoon bumbles his way into the heist of a giant, priceless ruby known as the Star of Kuristan. The result is an abundance of slapstick humor related to Mr. Magoo's visual impairment (prompting a brief protest during the film's 1997 release by the National Federation of the Blind), and a tired plot involving a lovely jewel thief (Kelly Lynch) who'll stop at nothing to get her stolen jewel back. Of course, Magoo manages to foil the thieves at every turn, even though he's frequently unaware of his unintentional heroics. This standard family fare from Disney (best suited for kids 12 and under) will probably play better on home video, but you'll have to watch and listen closely for the few gags that really pay off. --Jeff Shannon ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not necessarily excellent
This was basically your average comedy movie. First half wasn't very funny; second have was hilarious. First of all, Leslie Nielsen plays a great Quincy Magoo, acting like he is blind, and all. Angus, the dog, is a pretty good part, too, though some of the gags near the beginning with Angus didn't really hit the spot. Some jokes hilarious, for example, the chicken scene. Only poor Mr. Magoo could end up sandpapering a boiling chicken!

The other acting wasn't that great, unfortunately. If the other actors hadn't acted like it was so much of a drama, and treated it more like a comedy, it could've turned out a little better. I would recommend this for lovers of comedy.

Recommended for ages 6 and up. Rated PG for mild language (hardly noticeable) and some action sequences.

This movie may be a bit scary for younger children, because of some of the gun fighting, but this is lightened up by the near-sightedness (or is it pure stupidity?) of Magoo. Younger children will enjoy the silly slapstick comedy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Funny!!!
It is indeed very interesting and amusing to see the cartoon Mr. Magoo 'come to life' acted out by non other than the great comedian Leslie Nielsen. I burst out laughing a few times watching this movie, for example, the part when Mr. Magoo was trying to prepare the 'chicken dish' for the lovely but fatal Prunela (Kelly Lynch). He was watching a 'cooking' program when it was changed to an 'aerobics' program and next to a 'carpentary' program. Mr. Magoo as usual being visually impaired, went through all the 'rituals' with his chicken. It was hilarious! Get this movie and laugh your way through with Mr. Magoo from the beginning when the jewel was stolen to the end when he restored it to its rightful place, all the while not realizing the dangers he was in. This is because as in the cartoon, he always walks away smoothly from all harm despite his bad eyesight. This is a wonderful movie for 'tired, sore' eyes!

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny, entertaining
We really liked the movie, the kids all love it, they find it very funny. We have seen the original Mr. Magoo cartoons and enjoyed them. This movie is as funny as the cartoons.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE "CITIZEN KANE" OF MOVIE COMEDIES!
Simply one of the ten greatest comedies ever made! Where's the sequel???

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Excellent movie! Leslie Nielson does a terrific job paying Mr. Magoo. The movie is a little kidddish but adults will still like it. The dog also does a terrific job. The only bad part of the movie is that it is very unrealistic, but thats Hollywood for yall! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A cure for insomnia...
Unless you really like slow-paced, campy films, don't bother. The best part of the film is the beautiful scenery. The poor acting and campy effects really detract from the film. It's better to rely on good acting and great locations rather than mar a film with cheap effects that look cheap. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good entertainment if you like sci-fi
I have seen Virtual Assassin about 3 times on T.V. and for some reason I like it. I wouldn't call it fantastic, or even a great movie, but it is good entertainment for anyone who likes sci-fi and cyber-based stories.

Michael Dudikoff plays an ex-cop janitor at a computer technology firm who is thrown into an undesirable situation when a crazy cyber-villain takes over the building in order to get a sort of AI-based virus. The villain's actual goal is to incorporate the virus into his own mind, to become a sort of cyber-organism. The janitor Dudikoff must put his skills to work to protect the computer firm's employees (including a girl he likes) and destroy the crazy villain.

The acting is decent, the story is okay, and even though the movie is a low-budget sci-fi flick, it is good to watch if you have some free time. Every now and then it airs on the Space channel, so maybe you can see it soon and decide for yourself how good it is.

3-0 out of 5 stars a so-so sci-fi movie.
while i am a fan of michael dudikoff, this movie was mediocre. it had the potential for so much more.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good For A Low Budget Sci-Fi Movie
Virtual Assassins is about an ex-cop turned janitor, at a high-tec research building, that gets over run by cyber terrorists. Dudikoff is good as the hero. A must see for Dudikoff fans, aswell as Sci-Fi Fans. ... Read more
