This hurts. This REALLY hurts. The film is so bad it's funny. It bastardizes classic Tom & Jerry humor, and has more in common with Tiny Toons than the original films. Worst of all, this hideous movie made them TALK. Avoid this thing at all costs.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Tom And Jerry Like You've Never Seen Them Before.
This is great movie. I saw it when I was about 7 years old. I'm 14 now and I still love it. Even giving Tom and Jerry voices didn't hurt the film. I highly recomend.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting concept
Neighbors is a pretty interesting movie cause John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's roles are reversed meaning John Belushi plays the serious role while Dan Aykroyd plays the crazy role.
This movie is about a middle aged man named Earl Keese (Belushi) who is a bored suburbanite and he and wife don't speak to each other often, then a younger couple (Dan Aykroyd and Cathy Morarity) moves in next door and the fun begins.
This movie doesn't have much of a plot but it's a good way to spend an hour and a half by watching this movie, for those who want a great performance by John Belushi may not think much of this movie but I truly think that you should give this movie a try, unfortunately this was John Belushi's last movie cause a year later he died of a heroin overdose and he will always be in my heart cause he has done so much is his short lived career from Animal House, Saturday Night Live, Blues Brothers and the underrated romantic comedy Continental Divide.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm glad the NEIGHBORS are here to stay!
I truly love the late-John Belushi's work, seeing as his acting in "Animal House" and "The Blues Bros." were sensational, but "Neighbors" offers a different type of role for Belushi. The film has a bizarre usage of dialogue, lighting, costuming, and an exceptionally uncanny soundtrack, not to mention the twisted storyline and 110% intriguing plot. Belushi works so hard to play his serious-character and comes out looking like an pro in the end. The role was definetly for him! Aykroyd, this time, is the zany, manic "salesmen-type" personality, similar to his SNL sketches, to play Belushi's next-door neighbor. Totally humorous on the part of Aykroyd, the novelty of his character keeps the laughs going. Cathy Moriarty, from "Raging Bull" is sultry and sensual as Aykroyd's "wife.". Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. "Neighbors" is a dark, surreal jaunt as many of the fans make it out to be -- it's simply a fabulous disaster! Don't wait to watch something else -- watch "Neighbors" -- and pray a Ford Ranchero with a Red Baron biplane in back doesn't pull in to the vacant house next door!

5-0 out of 5 stars I thought I was the only one who loved this movie
I was glad to see other favorable reviews about this movie. I saw Neighbors on cable way back when at something like 2 in the morning. Perfect time to see this movie for the first time. I loved it immediately but until now, I thought I was the only one who did. My VHS copy is long gone and I still want to see the movie again. If it ever comes out on DVD, it's going into my collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Champion of Hollywood Studio Avant-Garde
A great atmosphere movie for any Friday night, "Neighbors" is still as funny and bizarre now as it was when released. This is a wonderful companion to films such as Scorsese's "After Hours" or Dante's "The 'Burbs." An often over-looked film, "Neighbors" is a brilliant symbiosis of the comedy and thriller genre.

Earl Keese is an unimaginative Walter Mitty stuck in boring suburbia. After Captain Vic and Empress Ramona move next door, Earl begins on a 24-hour journey to save his soul -- to be released from the stagnant swamp of dead-end living -- and 9-5 working. Both Belushi and Aykroyd expand their comedy by switching their normally stereotyped roles. Oscar-Nominated (Raging Bull) Cathy Moriarty also turns in a great performance as the temptress Ramona.

The swamp scene behind Earl's house is a powerful and mythic metaphor of Earl being "sucked down" by outside forces. It's also where he becomes baptized into a "new world" where he will reign. The Gelbart script (heavily rewritten by Belushi and Aykroyd during the Writer's Guild Strike) follows many of the Joseph Campbell tests and trials of the mythic hero. In addition to story, the film also boasts some fast, screwball comedy dialogue. Here's one of the witty exchanges in the post-modern Robert Riskin vein:

Vic: We're waiting, or do I have to pound it out of you?

Earl Keese: Don't ever speak to me like that in my own house!

Vic: Why would I?

Earl Keese: You just did.

Vic: I didn't mean anything -- it's just something a guy says.

Earl Keese: I never say it.

Vic: I don't blame you.

Experience "Neighbors" with some spaghetti from Caesar's Garlic Wars, a small spaghetti and wine dealership at Valley Field Mall on Route 3, next to the Cinema-Cineplex and the Singer Sewing Center.

Oh, and for breakfast the next morning, tell your loved one: "I hope you like blueberry pancakes and little baby sausages --'cause that's what yer getting'!"

Three Western stars (Martin Short, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase) from Hollywood silent films go to Mexico for what they assume will be a publicity appearance, and find they've actually been summoned to fight a local bandit. John Landis directed this 1986 comedy with self-conscious artifice, and it's hard to get into his self-congratulatory joke. Even the three main stars, brilliant comics all, can't sustain anything funny in it. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Blazing Saddles style parody
Steve Martin is one of the funniest actors on the planet and also one of the best comedic writers. This movie is styled somewhat after Blazing Saddles in that the characters alternate between crazy and outrageous. The plot centers around three silent film stars who are summarily canned from their studio for the audacious request of actually being paid for their work. Broke, they are sent a telegram from a small town in Mexico with what they think is a request for a personal appearance. Unfortunately, the request was not clear because the town was so poor they could not afford all the words needed in the telegram to explain they want the Amigos to rid the town of a killer bandito by the name of El Guapo. The movie is very funny, filled with bizarre characters, such as the singing bush, surreal moments, like the Amigos singing around a campfire or singing to a room full of desperados, and extremely funny conversations. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short all do good comedic turns. The only thing I do not understand is how this movie got rated R; besides the sometimes rough language, this should be a PG-13.

5-0 out of 5 stars FUNNIEST COMIC TRIO SINCE "THE THREE STOOGES"
I have this very funny movie in my collection. SUPERBERBLY directed by John Landis, here is an UPROARIOUS comedy about three loveable bumblers, who are way in over their heads. But come what may, they'll always remain the "THREE AMIGOS". Steve Matin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short travel a dusty road to adventure and laughter lin this ZANY mix of sharp one liners and clever sight gags. The "THREE AMIGOS" are a silent screen comedy act who have seen better days. So has a remote Mexican hamlet which is being TERRORIZED by a FIERCE bandit gang. FINALLY, in desperation, a naive villager sends the actors a telegram asking for help. [THREE AMIGOS HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA. YOU ARE VERY GREAT. 100,000 PESOS TO COME TO SANTO POCO. PUT ON SHOW. STOP. THE INFAMOUS EL GUAPO.]. THINKING they're being offered a fortune for a personal appearance, the hapless trio arrives in Mexico. ONLY TO DISCOVER that this time they're dodging REAL bullet!!!. This is a VERY FUNNY movie and I recommend to my fellow viewers to buy it and add it to their video library collection. I PERSONALLY CAN NOT WAIT FOR A SEQUEL TO BE MADE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

2-0 out of 5 stars The (Un) Magnificent Trio
The movie was produced at a time when Martin and Chase were trying to revitalize their movie careers. Martin Short was just starting to make films. THE THREE AMIGOS was supposedly a live action variation of Disney's THE THREE CABALLEROS but couldn't secure the rights and its a good thing. This is pretty much an unwatchable one joke premise film. Three soon-to-be unemployed silent screen actors whose movie screen personas are "The Three Amigos" are unknowingly hired to go to a south of the border town to get rid of a bandito (El Guapo) who is wreaking havoc to all the village townsfolk. The three arrive thinking they are to perform for the people and end up fighting the villian. Not much here as all three 'Amigos' have the same lame-brain personalities. Director Landis (ANIMAL HOUSE, THE BLUES BROTHERS) can't get much from the one-joke, not-very-original script (SNL's Lorne Michaels) and not one funny performance from either leads. There is a musical sequence reminiscent of the old singing cowboy movies that is mildly amusing (and again not very original). Otherwise, this is a very forgettable movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funniest movie of all time
The Three Amigos is the absolute funniest movie of all time. Each time you watch it you will find new things that will crack you up. Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short are gods.

5-0 out of 5 stars three aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamigos!
Are you ready to laugh your socks off? If yes, get this movie and start watching it! This mix of three amazingly hilarious comedians make an outstanding team that will certainly make your stomach hurt from laughing. Chevy Chase, Martin Short, and Steve Martin play the "Three Amigos," who are out-of-work actors asked to go fight the infamous El Guapo in Mexico. Thinking that El Guapo is "more than famous" instead of horrible, they take the job. As you can probably see, this mix-up causes quite a few problems that aren't at all too serious. After seeing this movie once, you'll be wanting to see it again and again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This film needs a soundtrack album
Or better yet, a special edition DVD with accompanying soundtrack CD. In addition to this being an all-around great movie, Lee Ving (from the band Fear), as his character Roy Boy, sings a couple of great country & western type tunes that I'd really like to have on a disc to listen to whenever I want. I won't hold my breath for the DVD or the CD though, people just don't appreciate good cinema these days.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my all time favorites!!!

One of the funniest moview that I have ever seen. A cast of hilarious, though little-known, actors and the best cameo appearances in any movie this decade. If the price would drop then I would but it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The 4 basic food groups --- Beer, Chips, Dip.......and Beer
GREAT movie !!! Hilarious individual characters AND cameos by Candy, Akroyd, Jim Belushi, George Wendt. If you watch it a few dozen times you will catch many subtle lines and sub-plots. Just plain dumb fun if you are in the mood. Honestly one of my favorite movies (and several of my friends). We can quote the whole damn thing.

2-0 out of 5 stars Joyce Hyser is the only reason to watch this precursor to..
(as I was saying before the box so rudely ran out of room) Joyce Hyser is the only reason to watch this precursor to "The Wedding Singer." --- If you like fluffy romantic comedies, you will probably like this movie, despite what I have to say about it... --- One can't help but notice the basic similarities in premise, and sometimes strong similarites in situations, between "Wedding Band" and "Wedding Singer" although this film, "Wedding Band," predates "Singer" by about 8 years. --- This movie is light, and mildly amusing. But it is mostly embarasingly amateurish and even, well, depressing considering the potential that it had to be a great romantic comedy. If this had had a decent rewriting by a competent screenwriter, and if it had had a competent director, the movie would be well known instead of unknown. --- Overall, the cast is competent enough, but Joyce Hyser is the only star here, she is the only actor who seems to be putting in any effort. She plays her scenes as if it's the role of a lifetime, and what does she get for her effort? she's consigned to a forgotten film. --- William Katt, in the hands of a motivated director, could have done very well opposite the amazing and criminally under-rated Joyce Hyser, but in this film he seems to be asleep. It's as if he's showed up for his paycheck and is sleepwalking through his scenes. --- Pauly Shore's quirky talents (hate him or not) are wasted, they cast Jim Belushi in a role that a mannequin could have played, a stoney Amish priest (who cast this movie anyway?). --- The potential contained within each scene makes watching this move almost depressing. But it is kind of fun for someone interested in screenwriting or directing to see just what not to do with a great idea. When you're given the ball (money and opportunity to make a film) don't drop it on the ground and kick at it a little, run with that puppy all the way to the goal line! --- I'll repeat, if you like fluffy romantic comedies, you will probably like this movie, despite what I have to say about it. --- But the main reason to watch this movie, in my opinion, is to see Joyce Hyser. I've said this in another review and I think it bares repeating, Joyce's acting skills are only matched by her beauty. And why she did not become a major star will always be a sad mystery to me. --- In one heartbreaking scene, Joyce (as Karla) is trying to have a romantic evening with her boyfriend Marshall (played by William Katt). She wants everthing to go perfectly as she is about to propose to him. But Marshall is such a doofus that he tromps over her romantic mood and reacts to her wedding ring as if he'd just been given a dead mouse. The way Joyce plays the scene makes you want to cry. Oh I hope she does more movies! --- (We love you Joyce!) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great comedy from Stallone and company!
This movie is hysterical, and proves Stallone has a capacity for comedy, especially when surrounded by the stellar cast ensembled here. Stallone stars as Angelo "Snaps" Provolone (like the cheese), a gangster who promises his dying father he will turn his life around and become an honest businessman, but circumstances won't allow for it!

The entire plot takes place in Snaps' palatial home on the morning of his first day as an honest man. The cops don't believe he's trying to be honest, there is a mix-up of a little black bag of cash that keeps appearing and disappearing, Snaps trying to marry off his spoiled daughter (played by Marisa Tomei), discovering he has another daughter, being told off by his wife, having tailors (the Fenucci brothers) in and out of his house, an oily tutor for his daughter traipsing about, etc etc etc!!! Apparently, it's easier just to keep with the life of crime, but Snaps does his best to cope!

5-0 out of 5 stars Stallone Sleeper Is A Keeper!
I watched this movie 10 years ago expecting a dopey gangster parody with Sylvester "Rocky / Rambo" Stallone in a suit. What I got instead was a very funny, refreshing comedy with lots of great gags and interesting characters. Stallone is hilarious as "Snaps" Provolone, big time gangster and future banker (due to a deathbed promise to his dying father, played by Kirk Douglas). His mob (including Peter Reigert and Chazz Palminteri) are far more inept than intimidating, bumbling along with their boss in his attempt to go straight. You'll never forget the crazy bunch in OSCAR! Merissa Tomei is perfect as Snaps' daughter Lisa, the squeaky, flapper-girl wannabe. Tim Curry plays his best role since Frank N. Furter as linguistics instructor, Thornton Pool. Then there's Kurtwood Smith as the over-zealous cop, Toomey. A riot! I've seen OSCAR at least a dozen times and it still cracks me up! Deserves to be a classic...

5-0 out of 5 stars Bad Reviews. What? Did they expect Godfather?
Once again, a gem that was given horrible reviews because they were trying to kill off Sylvester Stallone. It worked. When critics gang up on a star they don't like, they can end their careers. Stallone wanted to try comedy, but the critics wouldn't have it. He was hilarious in this very underrated play-turned-movie.

If you like slapstick comedies that are based on one day, in one place such as Clue and Radioland Murders, you will love this. This isn't a mystery like those, but the confusion over everything in one morning is overwhelming to "Snaps" Provolone. And he can't even kill anybody anymore.

It's his first day of "going straight" from the gangster life of the early 30's during prohibition and people are already seemlingly taking advantage of that right away.

This is filled with hilarious dialogue and is delivered perfectly by everyone. Yes, even Stallone. And you felt so proud when Chazz was ahead of everyone else after not knowing a thing about a thing.

I see there are many Oscar fans here and that's great. Listen to them.

If you're a fan of comedy and haven't seen it because of the bad reviews, or you don't think Stallone can do comedy, just rent it and see for yourself. 10 minutes after credits, you'll purchase this DVD here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rollicking Fun
This is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. All the characters are funny, especially Dr. Pool(Played by tim Curry). The story is simple: A gangster decides to go straight. But a huge series of mix-ups occur, wreaking havoc. This is a must-see for anyone who likes comedy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!
This is a movie with a truly well-written script. Unlike a lot of the 'comdies' that are written now, which are often primarily full of idiot jokes about sex that anyone could write, this script is truly hilarious without being crude.

Stallone's performance is perfect and really makes the movie happen well: but that's not to take away from the other performances which are also excellent: my favourite other than Stallone is the character "Dr. Pool" who serves as Stallone's alucution teacher, and ends up marrying Stallone's daughter. Bad actors would have turned this script into a horrible movie, but together the strength of the script and the strength of the actors in their respective roles is excellent.

The basic plot is that when "Snaps" Provalone's (Stallone) dad is on his deathbed, he makes "Snaps" promise that he'll 'go straight' and stop being a gangster. The result? pandemonium, and this fantastic movie! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars "Cracking Up" had me cracking up...
I was fortunate enough to have worked as a theater projectionist when this movie came out. You know, all the fresh-popped popcorn and soda I could consume for free and the opportunity to see this film about 14 times in the two weeks that it ran. This is one of those movies much like "Airplane" that you need to see a few times to catch all the gags. True, the budget for the movie was pretty low, but that was idea. Basically, a lot of comedians and comedy troupes got together and performed skits that were loosely woven around a central theme, that Los Angeles had suffered a 9.7 earthquake. If you like shows like Monty Python, Saturday Night Live, and Mad TV, you may enjoy a lot of these wacky skits. One of my favorites is one with Fred Willard as the boss in a bed store who gets into a conversation with a potential customer about mattresses, but somehow the poor customer misunderstands the subject and thinks Willard is speaking of something much more personal! At this price, you could always reocrd over the movie if you didn't like it. Somehow, I think you'll want to save it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Banal

1-0 out of 5 stars Not the real Tom & Jerry
Not only has Turner ruined movies by colorizing them, they have ruined Tom and Jerry by giving them voices! In this newly made cartoon, all we learn is that they have nothing interesting to say. Stick with the classic Tom & Jerry's and forget about this.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this show!
I love this show, including Bobby Generic and his imaginative world. Why I wish it was still on the air, like the Simpsons. I give it on a scale of 1 thru 10, I give it a 10 out of 10.

4-0 out of 5 stars Roger and Bobby are Crescent Fresh
While this is only on VHS, I still went out and got it. And I gotta say it rocks. Bobby's World is one of the greatest cartoons ever, and I reccomend every household to own this fine product of Howie Mandel. ... Read more
