Half of the characters in this 1988 John Landis potboiler seem to be played either by Eddie Murphy or costar Arsenio Hall, swaddled in elaborate Rick Baker makeup appliances that render them unrecognizable but also weirdly immobile. As a pampered African prince who journeys incognito to Queens, New York, to find a bride who will love him just for himself, Murphy manages to look smug and naive at the same time. There are enjoyable sequences of Murphy's Prince Akeem applying his lordly manner to his new job in a fast-food emporium, and falling for the boss's spirited daughter (Shari Headley), who teaches him how to party down, American style. But the fish-out-water premise is never fully exploited. Star spotters will have a field day locating Cuba Gooding Jr., Donna Summer, Louie Anderson, Vondie Curtis Hall, E.R.'s Eriq La Salle, and Samuel L. Jackson in their minuscule supporting roles. --David Chute ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious classic that will live in our hearts forever!!!
This is one of my all time-favorite African-American movies. First of all, Eddie Murphy is hilarious (in all of his roles). Arsenio Hall is a perfect foil for Eddie's hijinks. Eddie let his full range of talent show in this film; he played an innocent person who grows into a mature adult right in front of our eyes and realizes that there is a price to pay for love; whether or not you are born into royalty. This is one of those movies that a person watches over and over again and ends up reciting the lines as the movies is playing. James Earl Jones and Madge Sinclair are wonderful in this movie as well as the King and Queen. Madge Sinclair was one of the world's best actresses and I miss her greatly. She tells James Earl Jones "put a sock in it, Geoffrey, the boy is in love." Nobody can deliver that line to a black king, except a black queen. John Amos, (whom I have loved since Good Times), is a great actor as well. He plays the part of a black businessman so well, and as a father he takes no stuff off of the King. He tells James Earl Jones, "I will break my foot off in your royal _____); now that's a ghetto father for you. James Earl Jones knew where to draw the line with Cleo McDowell.

I also like the fact that the Kingdom of Zamunda was filled with kindness, and the people were happy, the royal family was truly wealthy and had everything. You know, this movie is truly a fantasy and helps us escape from our everyday lives. Just to see the Queen and King eating breakfast and talking to their son on a "speaker phone" because the table is so long, is funny. The King and Queen taking their entourage to Queens when they received the telegram to send $1 million to Semmi who had spent up all his pocket change is one of my favorite scenes. That music that is playing during the sequence when the entourage arrives in Queens is so wonderful, moving and swirling, I am buying the soundtrack just to get that song. When I get married, I would like that song to play as my "court" walks down the aisle before me.

All the cameos in this movie are great as well. Nobody can play a doped-up thug like Samuel L. Jackson; Samuel is a natural at playing a killer. Also, Louie Anderson was funny, so was Eriq LaSalle, and Alison Dean.

Now the guys in the barbershop have to be taken from classic characters in the black community. In all the black neighborhoods I have been in during my whole life; there has got to be a black barbershop full of men eating, talking stuff, and cutting hair. When "Clarence" says that Martin Luther King, Jr. ran up to him and hit him in the chest, I just crack up, cause Martin Luther King, Jr. was a prophet of non-violence. And, Eddie Murphy playing a white man is too funny, and a Jewish white man on top of that. Now, that takes creativity; and comic genuis, and Eddie's got it. And, Arsenio's portrayal of Rev. Brown is right on target, there is always some country preacher in the neighborhood that comes to every event, eats up the food, and blesses the weddings, blesses the children, and buries the dead.

One of my favorite parts is when Lisa tells Prince Akeem, she cannot marry him; because he lied to her about his identity. That made Akeem grow up very fast, and learn that nobody; no matter who he is, can buy love.

The clothes in this movie are also wonderful. Deborah Nadoolman did a great job showing how royalty would dress in a foreign country where it is warm, Also, how they would dress in Queens during the winter; those fur coats Madge Sinclair had on were fantastic and so were the suits worn by the King himself. His coat of an entire lion's skin was dramatic and the diamond eyes on that lion's head were cool.

The ending this cinderella story was great, love did really win out in the end.

Well, I could go on and on about how much I liked this movie but, I am going to stop now. Get this movie and keep it in your video collection so you can watch it and laugh over and over.

5-0 out of 5 stars FUNNY !
This is a feel good movie with the main players being Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. Young Prince Akeem is about to be wed to a beautiful woman, but the problem is he does not love this women. He decides he will travel to Queens, NY In America and find his true love. Now how does a pampered Africian Prince
survive in Queens. Soon he falls in love with his bosses daughter and the story takes you through a tender courtship.
I loved her father, and the King and Queen were priceless!
This was a really fun movie! The wedding scenes at the end were beautiful and my favorite part. Well worth your time to watch!
Qute enjoyable!

5-0 out of 5 stars F U N N Y
I love this movie. There is nothing I can complain about. This is Eddie Murphy at his Best. This is when Eddie and Arsenio was the BOMB. Every scene makes you laugh. Do you see Samuel Jackson in one of his early roles? Also, ER's Eric LaSalle in his Jeri Curl. This movie is wonderful. I can watch it over and over and over again and laugh at the Soul Glow commercials, because everyone in my area wore a Jerri Curl that looked that nasty. This is a must own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Relaxed Comedy
Coming to America cheerfully pokes fun at everything. There isn't really a meanspirited moment in the movie. A spoiled Afican Prince comes to Queens, NYC to live a normal life & find his true love. Queens for a future king, get it? The humor isn't exactly highbrow but its constant and Arsenio Hall is hilarious.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five star cast in a hilariously funny film "fit for royalty"
Coming to America is truly the creme de la creme of the comedic genre. I have watched this movie many times, and never can resist throwing my head back and laughing out loud in total glee. Sometimes I even admit to falling right off the couch in fits of laughter!

Murphy's principal role in the movie is that of Prince Akeem, with Arsenio Hall as his sidekick and personal servant Semi (though both play numerous other minor roles with the help of elaborate makeup to disguise the fact). Promised in marriage to a beautiful woman raised from birth to please him, Akeem finds himself dissatisfied with the very idea of an arranged marriage. He wants to select a wife with a mind of her own who loves him for himself.

Hence Akeem's decision to leave the kingdom of Zamunda to travel to America. Unaware of his son's true purpose for the trip, King Jaffre Jafur decrees that Akeem simply needs to take a trip to "sow his royal oats." James Earl Jones as the King, and Madge Sinclair as the Queen are hilarious in their roles as Akeem's parents.

Akeem and Semi leave their luxurious lifestyle in the palace behind and end up in Queens, NY, posing as "average Americn students." They secure jobs at a knockoff of McDonald's, owned by Mr. McDowell (engagingly portrayed to hilarious effect by John Amos) and his daughters Lisa and Patrice. Falling hard for the eldest daughter Lisa (Shari Headley), Akeem competes with her boyfriend, Darrell(Eric LaSalle), the arrogant, smooth talking heir to the "Soul Glo" hair product fortune, for her affections. The numerous conflicts and silly situations that stem from this will keep you in stitches.

Blessed with an EXCELLENT cast who each make the utmost of their roles (those mentioned previously, plus Samuel L.Jackson, Louie Anderson, Don Ameche and others), truly funny material, witty dialogue, and a delightful feel-good ending, Coming to America is a movie not to be missed. I hope you enjoy this frothy funfilled comedy as much as I did! ... Read more

Wow, I had no idea this video was still in print.

This video features the videos (except for Opposites Attract) from the Forever Your Girl album.

The videos are Knocked Out, The Way That You Love Me (Version 1), Straight Up, Cold Hearted, Forever Your Girl, & The Way That You Love Me (Version 2), plus it also includes commentary from Paula about the videos.

I would recommend this to Paula fans! Brings back memories when Paula was all over MTV with these videos!

This is a supremely disappointing film, especially considering the talent involved. Indeed, the cast would seem to be the summit of African American comedians, starring the three most influential standups of the modern era: Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, and Eddie Murphy. Murphy obviously was paying respect to his elders when he cast them as his father and grandfather in this story of Harlem in the 1930s. Written and directed by Murphy, the plot involves gangsters and rival nightclub owners but doesn't add up. What's a particular shame is that, with three comics as funny as Murphy, Pryor, and Foxx, there are so few laughs and so much misogyny. Do you really want to watch Della Reese get shot in the foot to shut her up? That's the level of the humor here. --Marshall Fine ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eddie Murphy at his best!
Eddie Murphy stars and directed this hilarious film. It has the three most funniest comics ever to grace the stage or screen, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx. Eddie plays Quick a hot tempered enforcer for Pryor's gang. It is set during the dirty thrities, in Harlem and is the funniest movie I have ever seen, the fight between Murphy and Della Reese is great. A must see for all Comedy fans

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolute garbage
If there has ever been a bigger waste of talent than Harlem Nights, I haven't seen it yet.

This movie is what happens when a big star (Eddie Murphy) is allowed to do whatever he wants by a big movie studio. So, he hires his family, friends and his 2 comedy influences Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor.

They spent millions of dollars on wardrobe for this movie and about 5 minutes on the script. It's like they just made it up as they went along. They wanted to look good but left out the funny. Eddie Murphy should be ashamed of this movie.

So, here is Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx being funny or entertaining. Quite an achievment. What a wasted opportunity.

3-0 out of 5 stars Effort Doesn't Equal Payoff
Murphy's directorial debut is long on good intentions and short on follow through. Occasional bits and pieces are funny or smart but the overall film is somewhat dull and contrived and not a little meanspirited. Can't say I'm terribly fond of the movie's treatment of women, either.

5-0 out of 5 stars An all time favorite
Just the interaction between Red Foxx and Della Reese is worth the price of the movie! And the "con" involving the gangster and the hooker had me rolling on the floor. This movie is really funny. I have watched it over and over again...and pick up something new every time. Loved it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Veiwers choice
This movie never really got the exposure it should have. I will admitt it is one of thos movies you simply must watch more than once because you miss all of the funny lines the first time. I did not care for all of the swearing; It should have been toned down. I feel if it were made today Eddie Murphy would have not had so much profanity in it. I also did not care for Jazzmine Guy as a sex symbol- her pettite frame and previous role as Witney Gilbert on the TV sitcom, made it hard for me to see her as sexy. Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx were right on key. I really liked the clothes of that era and Eddie Murphy did a wonderful job of creating a very nastolgic look back. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Funny movie, lousy DVD transfer
While the movie is likely to be enjoyed by anybody who likes screwball comedies and biting satire, the quality of the DVD transfer leaves much to be desired.

After a slow start, the sketches that comprise "Amazon Women On The Moon", a.k.a. "Kentucky Fried Movie II", pick up speed and reach increasing levels of absurdity, up to a widow's wake which turns into a roast. Steve Guttenberg's experiences with the opposite sex and a seventeen-year old teenager's horrible condom buying experience are painful and extremely funny to watch. By the time Russ Meyer (yes, *that* Russ Meyer) appears as a video store clerk, you have learned to stop worrying about whether this is sub-standard entertainment or not, because the sketches get too funy to care. The whole movie culminates in Carrie Fisher's appearance in an "educational movie", playing a woman with a "social disease".

The experience is marred, however, by the poor quality of the DVD transfer. The picture is blurry (this disc has obviously been transferred from video) and the sound is mono. Often enough, horrible compression artifacts appear in the picture, distorting the image beyond recognition. A shame really, since this movie really deserved a better transfer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud funny!
This movie is a riot! You will have fun not only laughing at the comedic gags and skits, but you will have fun identifying all of the stars who are in this before they made it big! Michelle Pfeiffer, David Allen Greer, Andrew Dice Clay, just to name a few. Really a great funny movie. Adults only, there is some pretty raicy content! Not a family movie, but funny for those over 18!

4-0 out of 5 stars Quite enjoyable, and quirky!!!
A very clever collection of shorts put together in a way that they seem to flow together, even though most have nothing in common, Amazon Women on the Moon is a very fun movie to watch. It has a long list of talent in its cast including Arsenio Hall, Michelle Pfeifer, Joe Pantoliano, Steve Guttenberg, Roseanna Arquette, Carrie Fisher, and Andrew Dice Clay.

The scene "Blind Date" which stars Steve Guttenberg and Roseanna Arquette is worth the price of the DVD itself. It is absolutely hilarious. I would consider it my worst nightmare (at least in dating terms).

Parts of the movie are ridiculous, but for the most part it is very enjoyable. The best way to watch this is to go into it with an open mind and don't expect it to be realistic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ha ha ha! I'm invisible!
What words can describe greatness such as this? Genious. Ageless. Priceless. This movie has everything and anything you could possibly imagine, from Andrew Dice Clay in a video nightmare rental or Arsenio Hall being killed by a VCR. This is not viewing for the average individual. No no. This film is made for the extraoridinary people of the world who would watch anything at 4:35 AM. If only channel surfing really was this fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Missing Some Stuff!!!
Okay, first time reviewer here, but I had to share this bit. First, I give the movie itself 5 stars - it is one of my favorites. About this DVD, however... Just bought it and briefly went through a couple of skits (I have them all memorized already) and I noticed a glarring error on the 'Hair Looming' skit - it has been edited/shortened!!! They totally cut out the part where they demonstrate how the hair stays on after the guy jumps of the cliffs of Acculpoco and the police drag his body to the shore and smile because the hair stayed on. (sp?). Why??? That was one of the funniest parts! I think there are a couple of other small omisions in there too - need to go all through it again, but the point is while a fantastic movie, they cut stuff out! I don't get it. If this is the only way to see the movie however (as my VHS copy broke recently), I guess it will have to do. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What's it about anyway?
Since I don't see the plot listed anywhere, I'll throw it out there. I've only seen the Knock Knock episode so I can't share anything about the other one on the video.

The NY subway workers open a door to a world full of evil spirits. They start invading NY starting with the subway system. The Ghostbuster gang needs to find a way to close the door and restore NY's subways back to the way they were.

I'm not a ghostbusters cartoon fanatic, so I can't tell you why all the sites I've found in my massive search for this video all say that this is the best episode ever made. I can tell you that my 3 year old is in love with it and I have been extremely busy trying to find a copy of it for him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great 80s fun!
I've been a RGB fan since I was young. I love the show and I currently just saved this episode onto DVD using my Mac. My tape is worn over the years so at least now it's safe if anything happens. I hope they will release these old cartoons onto DVD someday. If you enjoy animé you may also enjoy RGB because all the animators for this show were Japanese. The 80s music only adds to the memories of my 80s childhood. This show had great potential to make even more episodes than it did. Play Them Ragtime Boos has one awesome scene at the end where the guys are dressed as 1980s rock stars to counteract the magical ghost music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Any RGB episode is 5 Stars
A very good episode if you like the Real Ghostbusters. Don't buy it if it's you're first time seeing the ghostbusters though. Go with the pilot (Volume 1) instead. Summary: The 'busters head to New Orleans for Mardi Gras (No Peter! We are going to the science expo not Mardi Gras!) and wind up staying in a town haunted by dead musicians. Fun for the whole family

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Mambo", Peter, not a "Mama"...
A Real Ghostbusters classic. Hasn't held up well over the years; silly Cajun accent, '80s music, and not the best animation...but I have a soft spot in my heart for this show, and it's a shame so few episodes are available on the dwindling supply of videos. This is from the first and best year, of course, and not one of the better episodes, but I have to give it 5 stars, because it's better than NO RGB. Still a fun episode; I love the design of this backwoods Louisiana "ghost-town". It evokes a mood worthy of a show about bustin' spooks. Again, the writers on this show (J. Michael Straczynksi of "Babylon 5" wrote most of them) were quite adept at creating a good story within the confines of a 22 minute animated series. Great stuff. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great tape
The Real Ghostbusters proved to be one of the best cartoons of the 1980s, here is another tape with three classic episodes.
In The Revenge of Murray the Mantis - When one of the cartoon balloons that are being prepared for Thanksgiving Day become possessed, the ghostbusters can't handle it. So when all else fails they release the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man to battle the beast.

In Drool the Dog-faced Goblin - The Ghostbusters travel to the Poconos to capture a goblin in a circus sideshow that they believe is responsible for causing all sorts of trouble. But the goblin is a loving and harmless-looking creature; it's an unamalgamated shape-shifter that's the real culprit.

In Ghostbuster of the Year - The Ghostbusters compete with each other to achieve the position of Ghost hunter of the year complete with a photo on the cover of "Spooks Illustrated". But Winston insists that the Ghostbusters are a team that sticks together, but Egon, Peter and Ray are overwhelmed by the idea of becoming Ghost hunter of the year.

Picture and sound quality isn't of the highest standard but hopefully we'll see some on DVD someday. Happy Viewing!

5-0 out of 5 stars They're Back!!!
The Real Ghostbusters was a hugely popular cartoon series from the 80's, back when I was a kid, and I loved it! All of us kids did! Why? Because it was so loyal to the awesome live-action movie it was based on! They even made major adjustments to the cartoon when Ghostbusters 2 came out in order to keep some continuity. Of course, the earliest episodes were the best! And that's what we have here! Volume 6 contains 3 classic episodes of the Real Ghostbusters TV series. The first is "The Revenge of Murray the Mantis," which features a guest appearance by none-other than the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man! As it turns out, one of the giant balloons being prepared for the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade has become possessed. The huge figure of a popular cartoon mantis appears to be more than the Ghostbusters can handle, so the only way they can think of to fight him is to release "The Big Guy," Mr. Stay Puft! The result is a Godzilla style rampage through the Big Apple! The second episode is "Drool, The Dogfaced Goblin," where the gang encounters a strange creature at a freak show and becomes convinced he's responsible for some local mayhem, even though he appears to be a harmless and loving pet. Are the Ghostbusters just judging the book by its cover? The last episode is, "Ghostbuster of the Year." Here we meet the eccentric Charles Forester Hearse III, millionaire publisher of Boosweek, Popular Phantasmic, and Spooks Illustrated. He's having some trouble with a ghost in his family mansion, and has decided that it would be the perfect test for the Ghostbusters to see which one should be selected as Ghost Hunter of the Year for his new magazine cover! Winston argues that the Ghostbusters are a team, but Peter, Ray, and Egon are blinded by the idea of being named #1.
Of the three episodes, "The Revenge of Murray the Mantis" is my personal fave due to all the references to the original film. "Drool" is a typical, but good episode, and "Ghostbuster of the Year" is fun, but the homage to "Citizen Kane" is a bit too obvious from the beginning. There could have been a lot more subtlety there. However, they're are all good episodes and great examples of why the show was so popular! The tape is not the best quality by any means. The program is recorded on LP, so picture and sound quality are pretty bad, but hey, with these awesome 80's cartoons you take what you can get. Hopefully we'll see some DVD releases someday, and maybe even some for the equally excellent (if far too politically correct) sequel series, Extreme Ghostbusters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bring this show back!
One of the great cartoons of all time, based on the second-highest grossing comedy of all time (it was the highest until Men In Black). I strongly recommend this to those who enjoy a good solid story and humor that can be enjoyed by all ages. Favorite line: "Oh, great, another big Twinkie."--Winston Zeddemore (voiced by none other than Arsenio Hall)

5-0 out of 5 stars I Ain't Afraid Of No Ghost
Awesome. This tape contains three more episodes from the awesome cartoon Real Ghostbusters. The episodes are "Murray the Mantis," "Ghostbuster of the Year," and "Drool the Dog Faced Goblin." All three episodes are fast paced and exciting. Anybody who doesn't like this series just never grew up in the 80s. It's easily the best animated series of all time. These episodes are from a time when some thought was put into cartoons. Not anymore though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Who Ya Gon' Call?
Here is a collection of three RGB episodes, "The Revengeof Murray the Mantis", "Drool, the Dog-Faced Goblin",and "Ghostbuster of the Year". Real Ghostbusters is myfavorite cartoon of all time; I was in junior high school when it wason in the afternoons, and man, it struck a chord with me! Back then Itaped tons of episodes and have quite a scattered library;unfortunately it is exactly that and the tapes are old and the worsefor wear (having been taped in ESP mode and viewed hundreds of timesand being well over a decade old). I was SO into that show! I'vefound that there are more like me out there; RGB fans unite! We needto loudly broadcast our support, and bring it back on the air!! Thistape is great, worth every penny, I love the episodes, especially"Ghostbuster of the Year", a great riff on "CitizenKane". That episode had much better production values than othertwo; quite good considering the era. It's a shame that there are onlya few volumes of these official cassettes still available (althoughthey probably haven't actually been printed in years), totalling ahandful of episodes. The first year (the REAL RGB--not the Saturdaymorning version with Dave Coulier) had some 70-odd episodes alone. RGB FANS: writeemails to Cartoon Network! RGB will not wither into obscurity!! END ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The Real Ghostbusters: Venkman's ghost repellers
Venkman's ghost repellers is a wonderful video that I'm sure you'll love if you're a Ghostbusters fan. Although this video doesn't have as much action in it as some other Real ghostbusters episodes, this is one that can stand up to any other cartoon show out there today! 5-0 out of 5 stars Another excellent RGB episode
A new western theme park was being opened in Tombstone, Arizona when the spirits of Wyatt Earp, his brothers, Virgil and Morgan and their friend, Doc Holiday were awoken and caused a panic. When the ghostbusters are brought to investigate, they find that these ghosts want to re-enact the famous gunfight... with the ghostbusters as the Clatin Gang. There are some great quotes from the likes of Egon - "This gown ain't big enough for the both of us!" Peter: "Start the car, Ray!". This is reccommended to any RGB fan. BUY IT!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I thought "West" meant...Pennsylvania
Another classic Real Ghostbusters episode, a riff on the OK Corral legend. The writers played on one of the quintessential American genres, the Western, and it worked to a surprising degree considering it's a 22 minute childrens' cartoon. ("Duey La Mort"? I still have to laugh at that...) "Aces and Eights...DEAD MAN'S HAND"...I grew up on this stuff, and this episode is another one of my favorites. Wonderful animation...check out the twilight lighting effect during the gunfight! Awesome. "This is Boothill, Ray..." A MUST for the RGB fan. As I've said in my other reviews, the tiny collection of episodes available on VHS is all that remains for us to re-experience this great cartoon...RGB FANS: EMAIL CARTOON NETWORK!! BRING RGB BACK!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Who Ya Gonna Call?!!!
Okay, I know that was a lame thing to do, but someone had to say it! And that's what we have here, though these may not be the cream of the crop, they ARE early episodes. Volume 5 contains 3 classic episodes of the Real Ghostbusters TV series. The first is "Lost and Foundry," where the guys accidentally fuse a ghost with some steel while doing a job at a steel mill, eventually causing the whole city to go haywire as items made from that same vat of steel spring to life and attempt to reunite! The Ghostbusters have to figure out a way to separate the ghost from its various steel pieces long enough to trap him! The second episode is called "Night Game." In this episode, Winston heads out to cheer for his favorite home team at a local baseball game and discovers some strange paranormal goings on at the ballpark. When he goes back to check it out, he ends up playing in a ballgame with a lot of ghoulish characters, Good verses Evil, with one human soul at stake. But it's not Winston's soul, like everybody thinks. So who's is it? And how can Good beat Evil when only Evil is allowed to cheat? The last episode we have is the one that gets title credits on the video box, "The Bird of Kildarby." Here we see a new castle being opened as a Tourist attraction on Manhattan Island. But, to the Mayor's dismay, the Castle is LOADED with angry Irish ghosts! The Ghostbusters are brought in to deal with the situation the best they can, but this time they are vastly outnumbered. They'll have to take a dangerous gamble and make a devilish deal to make both the Mayor, and the Ghosts happy. But can they survive the wrath of the Bird of Kildarby?
Of the three episodes, "The Bird of Kildarby" is definitely the best, however they are all good examples of why the show was so popular, even if there are much better examples in existence.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Cartoon All Time
I don't think there has ever been a cooler cartoon than the Real Ghostbusters. Based on the classic film, Ghostbusters, this series shows the further adventures of the GBs. This specific tape showcases the episodes "Night Game," "Lost and Foundry," and "The Bird of Kildarby." All three episodes are great examples of how cool this cartoon is. It kept the spirit of the film while making it slightly more kid friendly. It's a shame they're not as popular as they used to be.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Real Ghostbusters One of the greatest cartoons made!
This tape holds three episodes LOST AND FOUNDERY, NIGHT GAME & THE BIRD OF KILDARBY. In the first one the Ghostbusters are chasing a ghost in a steal mill and accidently send the ghost into a vat of steal. The ghost becomes harder to catch when its been split into many different metal properties all over the city! In the second episode something strange is going on with the New York baseball team. When Winston witnesses ghosts coming out of the baseball diamond he decides to take matters into his own hands but falls to ghosts game when he has to play for the fait of his soul! In the third a new castle has been brought to Manhatten island and the ghost of the nights who died in it are still huanting. When the Ghostbusters show up to solve the problem its up to them to stop the bird of Kildarby from chewing up New York! See it to believe and don't wait a minute too sooner to see The Real Ghostbusters in their newest wave of action! ... Read more

From an early age, Josephine Baker knew what she wanted and did whatever it took to get it. Whether building her career or her family, Baker heeded no one's advice but her own, becoming one of the world's highest-paid performers, adopting 12 children into her "Rainbow Tribe," losing her fortune, then returning triumphantly to the stage just days before her death in 1975. Intimate Portrait: Josephine Baker, narrated by Arsenio Hall, captures Baker's sex appeal, energy, determination, and the important legacy she left behind for women performers in all media. Blending rarely seen dance clips, archived interview footage, and commentary by choreographer Debbie Allen, actress Lynn Whitfield (who portrayed Baker in The Josephine Baker Story), and two of Baker's sons, this exquisitely choreographed video reveals more sides to Baker's life than one would have thought possible in an hour. --Larisa Lomacky Moore ... 3-0 out of 5 stars wonderful footage with trite commentary
With its commercials edited for home viewing, this video is the perfect length for a high school class screening. I wanted to present a unit on Josephine Baker in conjunction with Black History Month, and this was a good investment for my classroom.

The documentary footage of the video is fantastic, with images of St Louis during the riots of the 1920s, stills of Baker in New York City, and performances by Baker in Paris (with a strategically placed black bar, making the video suitable for younger audiences). Particuarly interesting are clips a 1951 interview with Baker upon her return to the United States. Also included are clips from the 1991 HBO film, "The Josephine Baker Story".

The video's commentary, however, was somewhat disappointing. Both Lynn Whitfield, who portrayed Baker for HBO's biopic, and choreographer-producer Debbie Allen are interviewed along with several of Baker's adopted children, and assorted biographers. But Arsenio Hall, the video's narrator, is a mysterious choice for an interview, as he has no discernable connection to the performer. His trite descriptions of Baker as having "a Jerry Lewis, Jim Carrey-like quality, though she was not a standup. She was a dancer," are especially irritating, as they bring no real information to the biography. They are merely filler. And Debbie Allen damages her credibility as a source by peppering her commentary with "Honey!" and "Child!" These glitches, however, are tolerable in the context of the documentary footage.

The life of Josephine Baker is a fascinating story which deserves a serious documentary, with a narrator who can correctly pronounce "Les Folies Bergères". But until we have that, this will have to do.

5-0 out of 5 stars NO ONE LIKE HER!
Move over Tina Turner, Beth Midler, Patti LaBelle and Madonna! Before either one of you were born, there was Josephine. She set the standard and paved the way for performances that blew her audiences' aesthetic minds. She was the rage of Paris and Europe. Audiences bowed at her feet and gave praise to her name. Josephine was it!

Josephine Baker. Just who was this woman? Born of a Black washer woman and white man in St. Louis, MO, Josephine led a hard life. The St. Louis racial riots of 1917 left an indelible impression on this young girl who would grow to resent the racism of her country throughout her life. Josephine was wild, independent and would do what was necessary to move out of her condition.

Her tenacity, creativeness and sense of adventure in performing eventually landed her in Paris which she took by a storm. She brought with her a style, grace and energy which is shown in vintage footage of her early years. You will enjoy the performance of this woman whose feats can't be duplicated today.

Baker was more than just an entertainer. She was always outspoken against racism and believed in living life on her own terms. France honored her as a war hero and she adopted children of different races to prove that all humanity can live in harmony. This was before the civil rights movement came into being at full force.

Enjoy this woman's triumph on stage. Allow yourself to get angry at the United States for its rejection of this great Black woman. Be forgiving of her varied foibles and mistakes. Yet remember this, THERE IS ONLY ONE JOSEPHINE!

5-0 out of 5 stars " Unforgettable "
I was a fan of Josephine Baker's and I had the liberty of seeing her walk down the Champs Elysees at the age of seven in 1956 or '57. And I must tell you that she was a sight. She had a certain magic about her that cannot be duplicated. Everything about her was just perfect. And ever since I saw that beautiful sight it has been sketched and burned in my head ever since. So when I heard that Lifetime was doing a biography of Josephine Baker I was drawn to it imediately. And when I saw this documentary I literally broke down and cried. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Madame just watching her walk down the street and enjoying the view was quite enough. She was just unforgettable. And there is no one today or tommorrow who can touch her ,or ever will.

5-0 out of 5 stars " Quite Simply Elegant "
This documentary was simply stunning. I saw wonderful and beautiful films , photographs , and rare footage of this beautiful women . This documentary opened my eyes to a women who didn't fight for just black civil rights, but for all human rights.

5-0 out of 5 stars '' There is only one Josephine ! . '' -
Josephine Baker is one in a million, and all I can say is that it's about time she finally gets the recognition that she so deserves. Although she is no longer with us, we can always look back and apreciate the rich lavish history that this woman has left behind. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars frighteningly boring
Owning this video myself, I want to say that this is an excellent title, but then I'd only be saying that to make myself feel better. While it's not the worst cartoon I've ever seen, it is the worst episode in my opinion. Of course, this could just be that I don't like the "Ride of the Valkyries" song. I like valkyries, just not the song. Anyway, rent it if you can before considering purchase.

I hope you enjoy this frothy funfilled comedy as much as I did! ... Read more
