Roll Over Wayne Newton, Tell Tom Jones The News!
Elvis was, is and always will be the king - especially the king of Las Vegas! The song "Viva Las Vegas" kicks off the movie as the camera pans down Fremont Street and the Vegas strip, ending as Elvis drives up to the Flamingo hotel. This gives the movie a dated look, since Vegas has changed so much since 1963, the year this movie was filmed. Elvis adds to this feeling of nostalgia, looking as we best remember him - strong, healthy and at the top of his form. Of all his leading ladies, only Ann-Margret can match his screen presence with her beauty, sex appeal and talent. The heat they give off in their scenes together almost melts the cameras! Say what you will about Elvis Presley's movies, they were always entertaining. This is the most thoroughly enjoyable of all of his films, and the one that bests stands up to the test of time.

Hats Off To Kitten And The Lip
Ann-Margret fairly scintillates in this above-average Elvis vehicle, coaxing a winning performance out of the normally wooden Presley, who surely realized his vivacious co-star had the necessary goods to steal the flick, which she very nearly does. Giddy with the success of 1963's "Bye Bye Birdie" and a hot commodity at the time, Ann-Margret could sing, dance, emote and effortlessly exude sex appeal, just like Presley. Feeding off chemistry in spades, the pair engages in a good-natured game of "anything you can do, I can do better" one-upmanship that is danged entertaining. Particularly amusing is "The Lady Loves Me," a very witty duet with Ann-Margret coquettishly issuing withering snubs to Presley's romantic overtures before shoving him into a swimming pool.

Besides the stars, "Viva Las Vegas" has going for it the always reliable Cesare Danova as a suave Italian racing champ and Presley's rival for Ann-Margret's affections, as well as plenty of Las Vegas eye candy and Grand Prix racing action. And lest I forget, there's the goofily great, pulse-pounding title song. I DARE you to resist singing along!

I should have been born 60 years ago...
I'm all about Elvis. I'm 24 and my room is covered in his pictures. I LOVE this movie. I think personally that it's one of his best. I could sit here and watch him sing and move and never get tired of him. My favorite scenes are 1. when he's singing "The Lady Loves Me". And 2. when he's on her dance stage singing "My Baby Loves Me". Of course also when he performs the title song. I hope all avid Elvis fans have this movie in their collection.

HECK YEAH!
Evis hits the screen-he sings-he loves- he dances- and he fights, what else could you ask for! In this story Elvis is a down and out car racer that needs to get a new engine. Low on dough he strikes up a budding romance with ann-margret. Soon the whole screen is being blown apart with Elvis tunes and his fists! He rolls in the new engine and kicks booty all across the racetrack as he streaks to victory. Ann is a waitin and the big song at the end will blow you doors off. Thank you.... Thank you very much.

Overhyped? You Decide.
As much of an Elvis fan as I am, I can't help but think this is overhyped.

It's an average type of musical, looks okay, songs average but take a deeper look and you will see cost cutting on a massive scale. Wobbly sets, a very sparse supporting cast, Elvis looks like Ken from Ken and Barbie with hair to match and Ann-Margret, who is not as popular or talented as she thinks she is, does a very average job - other actresses could have done a better job. After all, didn't he romance all of his leading women.

This is viewed by many Elvisites as one of his best - just shows how bad the others are then!

If you want to see what Elvis could really do on screen check out King Creole, Wild in the Country or even GI Blues if you want something more lighthearted. ... Read more

This is one of those movies that works for all the wrong reasons--disgusting, lowbrow, base humor that we are all far too sophisticated to find amusing. So, just don't tell anyone you still think it's a riot to watch John Belushi as the brutish Bluto slurp Jell-O or terrorize his less-aggressive fellow students. This crude parody of college life in the '60s spawned many imitations, but none could match the fresh-faced talent or bad taste of this huge box office success. (Remember all those toga parties in the '80s?) The first of the National Lampoon movies, this was originally released as National Lampoon's Animal House. Faber College during fall fraternity pledge season is the place all young men want to be regardless of societal ranking. The disparity between two of the fraternities is quickly evident when we see the wealthy white young men recruiting look-a-likes to join their fraternity and snubbing wannabe's who don't quite measure up. The wealthy frat house has the approval of the school's Dean Wormer and he despises with a passion the characters who choose Delta House fraternity. Dean Wormer wants Delta House off of his campus and he asks Omega House (the rich boys) to help him accomplish this task. This is where the fun begins.

It doesn't take long for the viewer to realize that fun-loving, sloppy, middle-class guys inhabit Delta house and they live for pulling pranks on the Omega House fraternity and Dean Wormer.

This movie truly portrays college life on campuses during the 1970's. The underdog Delta House is only looking for acceptance and they won't stop at anything to achieve it! The pledge class consists of all the rejects from Omega House not only from this year but year's past. Together this group works together to undo Dean Wormer's wish to rid their house from his campus.

Flounder's experience with the horse is hysterical. The lunchroom scene with Bluto is classic. Otter's "happy-go-lucky" love interests including Dean Wormer's life are characteristic of a young man's college sexual escapades of the 70's. The closing of the Delta House and the road trip are comical. And finally the parade of all parades allows Delta House to get their revenge.

Life, Liberty, And Fraternity
Animal House is a rowdy and riotous look at college life in 1962. Faber College is home to the infamous Delta Fraternity. Known for its wild parties, peeping toms, food fights, and practical jokes at Dean Wormer's (John Vernon) expense.

Director John Landis assembled a great cast for this film. Aside from the late John Belushi as "Bluto", there's inspired lunacy from Tim Matheson, Tom Hulce, a very young Kevin Bacon, Stephen Furst as "Flounder", Mark Metcalf, Peter Riegert and Karen Allen, all have a memorable moment or two. The script, written by Harold Ramis, Douglas Kennedy, and Chris Miller, gives us plenty of laughs. Anyone who watches this will identify with at least one character in the film. Many people that have seen Animal House has their favorite bit in the movie. As for me, it has to be the horse in the Dean's offce, I laugh every time--Belushi was born to play "Bluto"

To celebrate the film's 25th Anniversary, the Double Secret Probation DVD, boasts some solid extas. A somewhat funny "mock-u-mentary", catches up with the cast as their characters. Some of the jokes work better than others. But everyone gives it the "old college try" and has fun. Instead of an audio commentary, there's an animated anecdotes trivia mode that's fun. The cast and crew gather again for a retrospective documentary about the film. This 45 minute feature is filled with great stories about the production-ala the Caddyshack DVD. The song "Shout", sung by Otis And The Knights in the film, gets a video from MxPx. The theatrical trailer, additional production/cast+crew notes and DVD-ROM material tops off the disc.

Because Animal House is set in the past, it is timeless, and holds up quite well. It was the first of its kind and remains a comedy classic. If you have never seen this, do yourself a favor...if you already have seen the movie before...this is one reunion use should not miss.

Classic College Movie
This is one hilarous movie! My dad always used to tell me how good it was and how he watched it when he was in college, but I never believed him. When I got a DVD player as a gift from my boyfriend my freshman year of college, it was one of the first movies that I purchased. It is so funny and it's a great movie to watch with your friends while you're relaxing and having a few beers! I think that everyone who has ever experienced college parties should be buying this movie because you probably never experienced a party like the guys on Animal House throw! Enjoy!!

Bluto Lives!
ANIMAL HOUSE is one of the funniest, most subversive comedies ever made! It takes the college system apart, turning it into a playground for the outcasts on campus. Dean Wormer (John Vernon) has had just about enough of these delinquents. Delta Tau Chi is the worst frat in Faber College history, infamous for it's debauchery and total lack of respect for the traditions of the fraternity system. Delta house is more funhouse than fraternity house. It's members are a band of sex-obsessed alcoholics (hmmm, actually sounds pretty normal to me) with a knack for causing mayhem. Peter Riegert is "Boon" and Karen Allen is his girlfriend, Katy, who is just about fed up with the whole immature mess. Tim Matheson is "Otter", the Don Juan-type, set only on finding and fulfilling every woman's fantasy.... well, something like that. John Belushi is brilliant as "Bluto" Blutarski, a drunken lunatic with a heart of gold. His near silent performance steals every scene in a Chaplin / Keaton-esque way. This movie is the best thing the NATIONAL LAMPOON (the most irreverent, politically incorrect, spot-on hilarious humor magazine ever conceived) ever did. Written by Chris Miller, ANIMAL HOUSE is VERY loosely based on his own experiences at Dartmouth. He even has a small part as "HARDBAR". Doug Kenney (A national lampoon founding father) is "STORK", the guy who leads the Faber marching band astray in the legendary parade scene. If you like toga parties (aka: orgies), road trips, food fights, and anything else it takes to get through an otherwise dull existence, then ANIMAL HOUSE is for you! This movie was the first of it's kind, unfortunately giving birth to a stream of immitators and lesser phlegms.. er, films, like Porky's, Revenge Of The Nerds, etc. None have come remotely close to this masterpiece of hijinx gone terribly wrong! An engrossing and as legendary as the real story.
A monumental achivement and a powerful milestone that changed hollywood forever , not only is this film as big and legendary as the true life story , the true life story ended this movie this film the story is endless from the massive production to the sweeping love story that it gave on and off screen with Liz Taylor and Richard Burton is in many cases as legendary as the love affair between Antony and Cleopatra.Huge massive sets and authentic locations and an powerful cast of it's time such as Rex Harrison as Julius Ceaser,Richard Burton as Mark Antony and Roddy Mcdowell as Octavian but at it's heart Liz Taylor in the role that made her the dream of every man Cleopatra who held the power of two nations in the palm of her hand.

This still hold the worlds record as the most expensive film ever made 45 millon at a time when you could spend 2 millon on an epic and still get something grand but many drawbacks and waste and script rewrites , directors getting tired and producers fed up and many times a sick Liz Taylor ,it also holds the record for the largest sets ever built. At the hights of the Roman Empire and the Egyptian Empire, Julius Ceaser a respected Ceaser and general wars to make and expand the greatness of Rome, after the battle little does he know that while he may conquer countrys there is one thing he cannot conquer the love of his neighboring Egyptian Queen and ruler of Egypt Cleopatra who is feirce and ambitious and seducting and uniting Rome and Egypt as one she will do that at all costs even if it means loving a Ceaser and bearing him a son.But when both nations are locked into war and famon , The Roman senate decides that Julius is no longer capable of being a Ceaser so they , assasinate him.Cleopatra alone and not fufilling her dream she meets the beloved Roman General Mark Antony and is immidiately swept into another love affair from a Roman but Antony seemingly betrays Egypt and strikes Cleopatra's anger and frustration now hated and decived by Rome Antony is once again engaged in war with announced Ceaser Octavian as Antony wars at Actium he must endure a terrible defeat.

But as the movie ends in a almost Romeo and Juliet style as Antony dies in the hands of the only thing to him that was worth fighting for Cleopatra , when she realizes how much Antony loves her she causes her death and is bit by a serpent and dies before Octavian can capture her alive.

An amazing film , a legendary film sprawling in intrigue and betrayal and lust the DVD contains a two hour making of the film and a legend that almost bankrupted 20th century fox if Cleopatra was made today it would cost twice as much as TITANIC to make.Cleopatra was a virtual flop and badly tanked at the box office but this movie is good because it manages to bring a legend to life with unserpasssed and powerful brillance few Hollywood films can do today.Not even reacent 2001 Best Picture winner Gladiator is as big in scope and scale everything is just small next to this film the will live in the annels of film as the story will live in egyiptian lore for centurys to come an specticale worthy and awsome film.

Hey 20th Century FOX: RESTORE CLEOPATRA!
I think Cleopatra is the best movie ever made, it is also the most expensive movie ever made costing twice more than Titanic in today's money, but it just didn't make it to the screen. Intended to be two movies, Caesar and Cleopatra & Antony and Cleopatra, three hours each. But partly because of the attention of the famous Taylor-Burton affair, Darryl F. Zanuck shamelessly ruined Cleopatra from its 6-hour two movies into ONE 3 hour 14 minute movie, which is the TV version, which is Horrible! But luckily, the 4-hour version, this DVD version, survived the brutal cutting of the film. This movie is the most beautiful movie I have ever seen. The sets, clothes, props, and music... they are just FLAWLESS! As many people know, Rex Harrison as Caesar and Richard Burton as Antony both got nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars, but because the movie was cut to one, they were nominated against each other in the same movie, and more importantly, their best scenes were cut because of the length, so none of them won (but they deserve to), and Roddy McDowell got nominated in the wrong section and his votes were canceled. Martin Landau was going to be nominated as Best Supporting Actor, but after the film was ruined, the Academy Awards dropped him. Elizabeth Taylor's best scenes were cut off that she was so angry she puked at the Premiere.

The Music of the film is the BEST. Till this Day, I don't know why the Oscars didn't give Cleopatra the award. Of course, Oscars didn't give Gone with the Wind, Gladiator, and lots of other film's beautiful scores the Oscar, it's weird.

How do I know about all about Cleopatra? I have ALL the books, interviews, and even the full movie shooting script of this movie, I am the biggest fan! If you have seen the movie, you'll realize that Cleopatra was usually unhappy and tense. But there is a happy side of her, for example, there was a scene where Cleopatra, Antony and her son with Caesar were in the garden, Cleopatra watching them play swords. Then Caesarian, the son, stubbed Antony with his wooden sword and Antony cried out in "pain", and Caesarian suddenly went crying, saying "don't die, don't die!" Antony suddenly comes back to life and tickles Caesarian, then drags Cleopatra into them and they were all laughing and rolling on the floor... it was so happy, and that's one of the many sides of Cleopatra that's been cut off.

In the four-hour version, we first see Cleopatra dumped out of a carpet. That was NEVER intended to be the first scene we see Cleopatra. From the script I learned that there was a whole story of Cleopatra outside Alexandria, and she and the others planned to meet Caesar and how to sneak her in. Just after they got to the Palace, some soldiers almost caught them and the maid had to lure the guards away... it was thrilling to read the pages of the script! There are sooo much to saying about what Cleopatra should have been, but sadly, no one expect FOX has the missing footage, and they are the best scenes of the movie (some scenes were so humorous that I laughed out loud!).

In the late 70's, 20th Century FOX called a recording session to record the lines of the movie so they can restore it, since the sound elements were missing. But it was called off at the last minute. But the three-and-half hours of missing film footage was NEVER lost! With today's technology, they can totally restore the film back, including the sound. They also have the missing part of the unused scores, but why doesn't FOX, after making a two hour documentary about the film, restore it? No one knows! Movies like "A Star is Born", "Lawrence of Arabia", "Sparticus", and many other classic movies has been successfully restored and loved by many. Why not Cleopatra? I am writing just to let you know the truth about the movie, and hopefully, if more people know maybe FOX will restore the film to the intended way. In a Late interview with four-time Oscar winner Joseph L Mankiewicz, the director and screenwriter of the movie, when the subject Cleopatra went up, he literately cried (on TV!). He said he wanted the film to be perfect that he bit his nails until they were bleeding that he had to wear gloves when he was writing the script... He called Cleopatra his "butchered masterpiece". But however, it's still one of the best movies out there! Totally worth buying!!

FOX: PLEASE RESTORE CLEOPATRA BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE, BEFORE THE FILM ROTS OR A STUDIO FIRE AND BURNS THEM TO DUST, LIKE FOX'S 1917 VERSION OF CLEOPATRA!

THE BEST FROM OLD HOLLYWOOD
Although Miss Taylor is no match compared to Vivien Leigh in CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA; this i s by far the best epic from old Hollywood - and the most entertaining..... Enough said. Ok, I can`t shut up; the arrival of Cleopatra into Rome is a masterpiece in itself... and the choreography is by the renowned Hermes Pan:-)

Spectacular Film About a Powerful Woman
"Cleopatra" is a great film released in 1963 about rise and relationships of the woman herself played by Elizabeth Taylor. This five-time Oscar winning spectacular film gives a rise to audiences of all kinds. Its beauty is never to be forgotten. The hard work and dedication placed onto this film shows greatly. Such film quality answers why it's since become a highly remembered classic. Its brilliant plot follows the emotional path of Cleopatra through her rise in power and her life turbulances. The emotional value stands greatly beyond the spectacular surroundings. This doesn't distract from the many history details expressed. The love themes are romantic as any great love classic. The sense of loss and struggle, namely losing those closest to her and trying to stop the wars from erupting, are greatly present.

All five Oscar wins were won for the spectacular surroundings that continue to amaze audiences after forty-one years: costume design, art direction, special effects, sets, cinematography. Few other films from the classic days was as elaborate as "Cleopatra". The multi-million dollars spent was worth it. The backgrounds are accurate desplictions of the actual Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome. The buildings and the structure styles are amazing. The wardrobes are accurate to the actual styles worn by the characters. The elaborate costumes, namely the ones worn by Cleopatra, are unforgettable. This set a record for most costume changes by an actress for one film, 32, which would take 33 years to break ("Evita", 68). The make-up work blends perfectly with every costume.

Elizabeth Taylor's role as Cleopatra is unforgettable. Her previous research of the subject is present. More perfect is the Oscar nominated role (Best Supporting Actor) of Caeser played by Rex Harrison. His expressions of love and life turbulances greatly improve the movie's theme. All other actors also play their roles wonderfully: Richard Burton, Martin Landau, Carroll O'Connor, and others.

"Cleopatra" is a great classic film that will continue amazing audiences for many more years. This will leave them with an unforgettable experience. After viewing, those looking for more should also watch the bonus features, which have a lot of interesting details behind the film.

One of the best epics ever made!
I can't really add much to some of the wonderful reviews I have read about this DVD set (the 5 Star Collection). But I do want to say that if you love this movie or even just like this movie, the documentary that is included with this 3-disc set is worth buying this DVD set just by itself. It's one of the most entertaining and interesting documentaries I've ever seen on the making of a movie and all the interesting and strange events that happened while making the movie and after the movie. The movie is absolutely beautiful - the sets and costumes are magnificent - the money spent on this film is so obvious. I wish they would restore this movie to the director's original plan and put back the other half of the movie that was cut out! I would pay lots of money to buy a director's cut of this movie. But until that day comes, if ever, I highly recommend this DVD set. It's still one of my favorite movies of all time. ... Read more

Will Connie Stevens find her man? You bet she will.
A bad drug deal goes wrong. The buyer dressed like a priest cold-blooded red shoots the deliverer. The crook still in the priest get-up, takes a plane flight. Here we see Greg Evigan in his film debut. He plays a steward. Three rows behind is a lady in disguise keeping a watchful eye on this crook. It's Scorchy! Connie Stevens is hot on his trail. The plane lands in Seattle. Greg Evigan has made it home. As he comes out of the shower into the living room, he is held-up by a knife-holding thug. he does some quick footwork on the thug, but the thug punches him and throws a chair at him, followed by a bucket of water in Greg's face. Connie Stevens plays a Narcotics Undercover Agent, Jackie Parker. She will do anything to crack a case, including going to bed with them. She gets closer to making a big deal and Greg Evigan as well. This film has lots of action, Connie Stevens skinny-dippin' (to a movie buff these scenes may help you recall the recent American Movie Classics cable network special, the exclusive showing of "Something's Got To Give", with the skinny-dipping scenes of Marilyn Monroe), cat and mouse chases, car chases, but get this, Connie drives a dragster through the streets of Seattle, shoot-outs and a helicopter/boat chase. ... Boy, Did I Get A Wrong Number!
If you`re a big fan of Bob Hope & do not own this video,I strongly urge you to purchase it.It is without a doubt,the best piece of comedy work i`ve ever seen! By far the best Hope movie he ever did.The antics of Hope & Diller will absolutely have you in the floor howling and rolling in the floor laughing!

Hysterically funny & worth buying!
Bob Hope & Phyllis Diller are hysterically funny in this comedy! You'll love laughing your way through the entire film! It's really great to watch this film if you've had a tough day and need to just take your mind off of things. This is a true jewel to have in my video collection & I watch it over and over with lots of laughs! :)

Boy did i get a wrong number
This is one tangled mess of a movie! Bob Hope stars as husband, father and real estate agent Tom Meade whose life is about to be disrupted by more than just his wacky housekeeper. Enter the Divine Didi, an ultra sexy film star played by Elke Sommer. Fed up with starring in films with lots of bubbles but no plot she escapes to a nearby hotel, a wanted woman. After Tom Meade tries to phone his wife at the beauty parlor, and accidentally gets through to Didi's hotel room instead, he'll wish he had gotten a busy signal. Will Mr. Tom Meade come to the aid of the starving Didi who hasn't had anything to eat in one whole day? You Stars Wars fans will have a mad laugh at this one. And so the plot thickens...ending with what I believe to be the longest car chase in movie history. If your looking for nuttiness and some hilarious comic relief between Hope and Diller, this one should not be put on hold.

HILARIOUS WISECRACKING DIALOG BETWEEN HOPE AND DILLER KEEPS THIS FILM ROLLING. IF FOR NOTHING ELSE, WATCH FOR THE OUTRAGEOUSLY HUGE HAIRSTYLES SPORTED BY SOMMER AND CO-STAR MARJORIE LORD. Giant Octopus Terrorizes a Coastal Town, with vetern actors.
Personally TENTACLES is a joyful entertainment film that will please most campy fans of cult and B-movie. One the other hand TENTACLES is a ripoff of JAWS which is ment to be scary but is hilarious!!! The octopus never comes close to being terrifying. The dubbing is laughably bad, sound design is pretty cheap to. It's also sad that six Hollywood legends were put into this, John Huston, Shelley Winters, Bo Hopkins, Claude Akins, Alan Boyd and Henry Fonda. The town of Ocean Beach is suddenly terrorized by a octopus that was driven to madness by a construction company and it's owner Mr. Whitehead (Fonda). Reporter Ned Turner (Huston) and his wife (Winters) start an invesigation when skeleton remains are found on the shore. They blame Mr. Whitehead and find out that it is an octopus. With the help of a Biologist Will Gleason (Hopkins) they all sail out to sea with trained killer whales to destroy the beast! So I guess it is a lot of campy fun which will please non serious fans. Director Ovidio G. Assoniates (aka Oliver Hellman) had no success on his other film Beyond the Door (1974) and Exorcist ripoff. Later he made The Visitor (1979) and Beyond the Door III (1989).

Bad, even by Drive In standards
I definitely have fonder memories of what was going on in my car at the drive-in than what was going on up on the movie screen. I believe my date's name was Jody and the movie (second on the bill) was TENTACLES.

The only thing I remember were the puppet killer whales tearing a real octopus apart for the finale (a dead octopus, from what I've read--but this was a European film, right?).

The only reason I'm writing a review for this movie--in the off-chance that you'll actually watch it--is to share some trivia: all of Henry Fonda's scenes were shot in his backyard. He agreed to do this piece of crap as long as they paid him and HE DIDN'T HAVE TO LEAVE HOME! Is that hilarious? He just walked out to his backyard, shot all his scenes on his own lawn furniture (most on a dummy phone, as I recall), and picked up a check.
You're going to put more effort into watching this movie than Henry Fonda did APPEARING in it!

MST3K FODDER!!!
That's right, another movie that MST3K, if they haven't already, should rip apart!!! This movie just plain sucks. Bad acting, boring plot, and well, it just plain sucks don't see unless you see the, if there is one, MST3K version.

Wait, no....Aieeeeeee-oh, it's just rubber.
I am a true fan of Cephalopods, including octopuses. A huge octopus gets agrivated from being disturbed by human activity. So, he gets hungry, and here we go. A lot of the scenes where the people get wrapped in his tentacles and get devoured are quite gruesome...but not enough.

The best scene, well, REALLY, the poor girl! The octopus wrecks her yacht at night, and as she is floating around by herself, she waits by wreckage to be picked up, yet it was the octopus who "picked her up" instead of the local friendly Coast Guard-well, they probably got sacked by the beast as well. Her terrifying screams and being held up like a trophy by the monster was very creepy. Other than that, good actors who want a last chance at being a star get wrapped up in this dreadful acted and scripted waste. And octopi don't make sounds like a giant slurpy straw, or roaring. Bad cinemaphotography too.

Huh? A tentacle...ah! Mr. Octopus-it wasn't that bad! Uh, three stars, okay? Ah! HELLLLLLP! (BLUB)

Hey buddy watches those Tentacoli
There is no wrath like an octopus scorned. Take a lot of actors past their prime, add an octopus past its prime, toss in some bathing beauties worth eating, and a few brats on small sailboats for desert and you have a movie.
You already know the story of the ruthless developer that does not mind a little sea food (for Mr. Tentacles) if it does not get in the way of the project. Self conscious "do-goober" that thinks eating people is not nice and a buddy going down for revenge.
This leave us with the question does the innocent cephalopod get dispatched or does he live for a sequel? ... Read more

Faber College during fall fraternity pledge season is the place all young men want to be regardless of societal ranking. The disparity between two of the fraternities is quickly evident when we see the wealthy white young men recruiting look-a-likes to join their fraternity and snubbing wannabe's who don't quite measure up. The wealthy frat house has the approval of the school's Dean Wormer and he despises with a passion the characters who choose Delta House fraternity. Dean Wormer wants Delta House off of his campus and he asks Omega House (the rich boys) to help him accomplish this task. This is where the fun begins.

It doesn't take long for the viewer to realize that fun-loving, sloppy, middle-class guys inhabit Delta house and they live for pulling pranks on the Omega House fraternity and Dean Wormer.

This movie truly portrays college life on campuses during the 1970's. The underdog Delta House is only looking for acceptance and they won't stop at anything to achieve it! The pledge class consists of all the rejects from Omega House not only from this year but year's past. Together this group works together to undo Dean Wormer's wish to rid their house from his campus.

Flounder's experience with the horse is hysterical. The lunchroom scene with Bluto is classic. Otter's "happy-go-lucky" love interests including Dean Wormer's life are characteristic of a young man's college sexual escapades of the 70's. The closing of the Delta House and the road trip are comical. And finally the parade of all parades allows Delta House to get their revenge.

Life, Liberty, And Fraternity
Animal House is a rowdy and riotous look at college life in 1962. Faber College is home to the infamous Delta Fraternity. Known for its wild parties, peeping toms, food fights, and practical jokes at Dean Wormer's (John Vernon) expense.

Director John Landis assembled a great cast for this film. Aside from the late John Belushi as "Bluto", there's inspired lunacy from Tim Matheson, Tom Hulce, a very young Kevin Bacon, Stephen Furst as "Flounder", Mark Metcalf, Peter Riegert and Karen Allen, all have a memorable moment or two. The script, written by Harold Ramis, Douglas Kennedy, and Chris Miller, gives us plenty of laughs. Anyone who watches this will identify with at least one character in the film. Many people that have seen Animal House has their favorite bit in the movie. As for me, it has to be the horse in the Dean's offce, I laugh every time--Belushi was born to play "Bluto"

To celebrate the film's 25th Anniversary, the Double Secret Probation DVD, boasts some solid extas. A somewhat funny "mock-u-mentary", catches up with the cast as their characters. Some of the jokes work better than others. But everyone gives it the "old college try" and has fun. Instead of an audio commentary, there's an animated anecdotes trivia mode that's fun. The cast and crew gather again for a retrospective documentary about the film. This 45 minute feature is filled with great stories about the production-ala the Caddyshack DVD. The song "Shout", sung by Otis And The Knights in the film, gets a video from MxPx. The theatrical trailer, additional production/cast+crew notes and DVD-ROM material tops off the disc.

Because Animal House is set in the past, it is timeless, and holds up quite well. It was the first of its kind and remains a comedy classic. If you have never seen this, do yourself a favor...if you already have seen the movie before...this is one reunion use should not miss.

Classic College Movie
This is one hilarous movie! My dad always used to tell me how good it was and how he watched it when he was in college, but I never believed him. When I got a DVD player as a gift from my boyfriend my freshman year of college, it was one of the first movies that I purchased. It is so funny and it's a great movie to watch with your friends while you're relaxing and having a few beers! I think that everyone who has ever experienced college parties should be buying this movie because you probably never experienced a party like the guys on Animal House throw! Enjoy!!

Bluto Lives!
ANIMAL HOUSE is one of the funniest, most subversive comedies ever made! It takes the college system apart, turning it into a playground for the outcasts on campus. Dean Wormer (John Vernon) has had just about enough of these delinquents. Delta Tau Chi is the worst frat in Faber College history, infamous for it's debauchery and total lack of respect for the traditions of the fraternity system. Delta house is more funhouse than fraternity house. It's members are a band of sex-obsessed alcoholics (hmmm, actually sounds pretty normal to me) with a knack for causing mayhem. Peter Riegert is "Boon" and Karen Allen is his girlfriend, Katy, who is just about fed up with the whole immature mess. Tim Matheson is "Otter", the Don Juan-type, set only on finding and fulfilling every woman's fantasy.... well, something like that. John Belushi is brilliant as "Bluto" Blutarski, a drunken lunatic with a heart of gold. His near silent performance steals every scene in a Chaplin / Keaton-esque way. This movie is the best thing the NATIONAL LAMPOON (the most irreverent, politically incorrect, spot-on hilarious humor magazine ever conceived) ever did. Written by Chris Miller, ANIMAL HOUSE is VERY loosely based on his own experiences at Dartmouth. He even has a small part as "HARDBAR". Doug Kenney (A national lampoon founding father) is "STORK", the guy who leads the Faber marching band astray in the legendary parade scene. If you like toga parties (aka: orgies), road trips, food fights, and anything else it takes to get through an otherwise dull existence, then ANIMAL HOUSE is for you! This movie was the first of it's kind, unfortunately giving birth to a stream of immitators and lesser phlegms.. er, films, like Porky's, Revenge Of The Nerds, etc. None have come remotely close to this masterpiece of hijinx gone terribly wrong! Roll Over Wayne Newton, Tell Tom Jones The News!
Elvis was, is and always will be the king - especially the king of Las Vegas! The song "Viva Las Vegas" kicks off the movie as the camera pans down Fremont Street and the Vegas strip, ending as Elvis drives up to the Flamingo hotel. This gives the movie a dated look, since Vegas has changed so much since 1963, the year this movie was filmed. Elvis adds to this feeling of nostalgia, looking as we best remember him - strong, healthy and at the top of his form. Of all his leading ladies, only Ann-Margret can match his screen presence with her beauty, sex appeal and talent. The heat they give off in their scenes together almost melts the cameras! Say what you will about Elvis Presley's movies, they were always entertaining. This is the most thoroughly enjoyable of all of his films, and the one that bests stands up to the test of time.

Hats Off To Kitten And The Lip
Ann-Margret fairly scintillates in this above-average Elvis vehicle, coaxing a winning performance out of the normally wooden Presley, who surely realized his vivacious co-star had the necessary goods to steal the flick, which she very nearly does. Giddy with the success of 1963's "Bye Bye Birdie" and a hot commodity at the time, Ann-Margret could sing, dance, emote and effortlessly exude sex appeal, just like Presley. Feeding off chemistry in spades, the pair engages in a good-natured game of "anything you can do, I can do better" one-upmanship that is danged entertaining. Particularly amusing is "The Lady Loves Me," a very witty duet with Ann-Margret coquettishly issuing withering snubs to Presley's romantic overtures before shoving him into a swimming pool.

Besides the stars, "Viva Las Vegas" has going for it the always reliable Cesare Danova as a suave Italian racing champ and Presley's rival for Ann-Margret's affections, as well as plenty of Las Vegas eye candy and Grand Prix racing action. And lest I forget, there's the goofily great, pulse-pounding title song. I DARE you to resist singing along!

I should have been born 60 years ago...
I'm all about Elvis. I'm 24 and my room is covered in his pictures. I LOVE this movie. I think personally that it's one of his best. I could sit here and watch him sing and move and never get tired of him. My favorite scenes are 1. when he's singing "The Lady Loves Me". And 2. when he's on her dance stage singing "My Baby Loves Me". Of course also when he performs the title song. I hope all avid Elvis fans have this movie in their collection.

HECK YEAH!
Evis hits the screen-he sings-he loves- he dances- and he fights, what else could you ask for! In this story Elvis is a down and out car racer that needs to get a new engine. Low on dough he strikes up a budding romance with ann-margret. Soon the whole screen is being blown apart with Elvis tunes and his fists! He rolls in the new engine and kicks booty all across the racetrack as he streaks to victory. Ann is a waitin and the big song at the end will blow you doors off. Thank you.... Thank you very much.

Overhyped? You Decide.
As much of an Elvis fan as I am, I can't help but think this is overhyped.

It's an average type of musical, looks okay, songs average but take a deeper look and you will see cost cutting on a massive scale. Wobbly sets, a very sparse supporting cast, Elvis looks like Ken from Ken and Barbie with hair to match and Ann-Margret, who is not as popular or talented as she thinks she is, does a very average job - other actresses could have done a better job. After all, didn't he romance all of his leading women.

This is viewed by many Elvisites as one of his best - just shows how bad the others are then!

If you want to see what Elvis could really do on screen check out King Creole, Wild in the Country or even GI Blues if you want something more lighthearted. ... Read more

Gidget out of the water is still fun
There are two problems with this movie. First, I do not like Cindy Carol as Gidget. I liked Sandra Dee and Deborah Walley a lot better. Second, there is not much surfing. Overlooking those two things, this is still a fun movie. It seems there aways has to be something to come between our favorite couple: Gidget and Moondoggie. And what Gidget movie would be complete without Gidget misreading situations? Gidget goes to Rome with her two gal pals, Moondoggie, and his two friends (Judge from Gidget goes Hawaiian returns). There is a lot of nice footage showing Italian landmarks. Gidget, of course, gets herself in trouble and has a separation from Jeff, played by gorgeous James Darren, but everything turns out for Gidget in the end. Doesn't it?

Best of the Gidgets!
This is my favorite and, I think, the best of the Gidget movies. James Darren is still extremely "dreamy" as Moondoggie, and Cindy Carol portrays a more grown-up Gidget. Though Sandra Dee is the very first Gidge, I believe Carol gives her quite a run for her money. Who couldn't love the "Gigetta" theme, and Moondoggie's sonata to Gidget? The fact that I'm an Italian with hopes for visiting Rome just make me love this movie even more! It was lovely!

No where near the first Gidget!
This movie was such a dissapointment after watching the first Gidget. The story line is weak and boring.

This is a fun movie to watch. Gidget always gets into trouble. This is not one of my favorites, however.

Not as good as the previous two Gidgets ( the first one was the best and it would have been better if Sandra Dee was in all of them but alas ! ) and the whole surf theme was kinda lost in this installment, except in the beginning , but still a fun movie to watch . This 1963 extravaganza, directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, is certainly an epic historical drama with all the elements: elaborate sets, intricate costuming, name actors, a factual basis, and an overlong script (just over four hours). But the acting is well performed and the backdrops are lush, making this a film worth seeing. Elizabeth Taylor is Cleopatra, the Egyptian queen who seduces Julius Caesar (Rex Harrison) in a political move to hold onto her empire. When Caesar is killed in the Roman Senate, Cleopatra looks to Marc Antony (Richard Burton) for his support, practically enslaving him with her wiles. Taylor is dramatic in her role, at times overly serious, but stunning nonetheless as the woman described as "well versed in the natural sciences and mathematics. She speaks seven languages proficiently. Were she not a woman one would consider her to be an intellectual." While the film does seem to drag at moments, it deserves the four Oscars it won for cinematography, art direction-set direction, costumes, and special effects. An engrossing and as legendary as the real story.
A monumental achivement and a powerful milestone that changed hollywood forever , not only is this film as big and legendary as the true life story , the true life story ended this movie this film the story is endless from the massive production to the sweeping love story that it gave on and off screen with Liz Taylor and Richard Burton is in many cases as legendary as the love affair between Antony and Cleopatra.Huge massive sets and authentic locations and an powerful cast of it's time such as Rex Harrison as Julius Ceaser,Richard Burton as Mark Antony and Roddy Mcdowell as Octavian but at it's heart Liz Taylor in the role that made her the dream of every man Cleopatra who held the power of two nations in the palm of her hand.

This still hold the worlds record as the most expensive film ever made 45 millon at a time when you could spend 2 millon on an epic and still get something grand but many drawbacks and waste and script rewrites , directors getting tired and producers fed up and many times a sick Liz Taylor ,it also holds the record for the largest sets ever built. At the hights of the Roman Empire and the Egyptian Empire, Julius Ceaser a respected Ceaser and general wars to make and expand the greatness of Rome, after the battle little does he know that while he may conquer countrys there is one thing he cannot conquer the love of his neighboring Egyptian Queen and ruler of Egypt Cleopatra who is feirce and ambitious and seducting and uniting Rome and Egypt as one she will do that at all costs even if it means loving a Ceaser and bearing him a son.But when both nations are locked into war and famon , The Roman senate decides that Julius is no longer capable of being a Ceaser so they , assasinate him.Cleopatra alone and not fufilling her dream she meets the beloved Roman General Mark Antony and is immidiately swept into another love affair from a Roman but Antony seemingly betrays Egypt and strikes Cleopatra's anger and frustration now hated and decived by Rome Antony is once again engaged in war with announced Ceaser Octavian as Antony wars at Actium he must endure a terrible defeat.

But as the movie ends in a almost Romeo and Juliet style as Antony dies in the hands of the only thing to him that was worth fighting for Cleopatra , when she realizes how much Antony loves her she causes her death and is bit by a serpent and dies before Octavian can capture her alive.

An amazing film , a legendary film sprawling in intrigue and betrayal and lust the DVD contains a two hour making of the film and a legend that almost bankrupted 20th century fox if Cleopatra was made today it would cost twice as much as TITANIC to make.Cleopatra was a virtual flop and badly tanked at the box office but this movie is good because it manages to bring a legend to life with unserpasssed and powerful brillance few Hollywood films can do today.Not even reacent 2001 Best Picture winner Gladiator is as big in scope and scale everything is just small next to this film the will live in the annels of film as the story will live in egyiptian lore for centurys to come an specticale worthy and awsome film.

Hey 20th Century FOX: RESTORE CLEOPATRA!
I think Cleopatra is the best movie ever made, it is also the most expensive movie ever made costing twice more than Titanic in today's money, but it just didn't make it to the screen. Intended to be two movies, Caesar and Cleopatra & Antony and Cleopatra, three hours each. But partly because of the attention of the famous Taylor-Burton affair, Darryl F. Zanuck shamelessly ruined Cleopatra from its 6-hour two movies into ONE 3 hour 14 minute movie, which is the TV version, which is Horrible! But luckily, the 4-hour version, this DVD version, survived the brutal cutting of the film. This movie is the most beautiful movie I have ever seen. The sets, clothes, props, and music... they are just FLAWLESS! As many people know, Rex Harrison as Caesar and Richard Burton as Antony both got nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars, but because the movie was cut to one, they were nominated against each other in the same movie, and more importantly, their best scenes were cut because of the length, so none of them won (but they deserve to), and Roddy McDowell got nominated in the wrong section and his votes were canceled. Martin Landau was going to be nominated as Best Supporting Actor, but after the film was ruined, the Academy Awards dropped him. Elizabeth Taylor's best scenes were cut off that she was so angry she puked at the Premiere.

The Music of the film is the BEST. Till this Day, I don't know why the Oscars didn't give Cleopatra the award. Of course, Oscars didn't give Gone with the Wind, Gladiator, and lots of other film's beautiful scores the Oscar, it's weird.

How do I know about all about Cleopatra? I have ALL the books, interviews, and even the full movie shooting script of this movie, I am the biggest fan! If you have seen the movie, you'll realize that Cleopatra was usually unhappy and tense. But there is a happy side of her, for example, there was a scene where Cleopatra, Antony and her son with Caesar were in the garden, Cleopatra watching them play swords. Then Caesarian, the son, stubbed Antony with his wooden sword and Antony cried out in "pain", and Caesarian suddenly went crying, saying "don't die, don't die!" Antony suddenly comes back to life and tickles Caesarian, then drags Cleopatra into them and they were all laughing and rolling on the floor... it was so happy, and that's one of the many sides of Cleopatra that's been cut off.

In the four-hour version, we first see Cleopatra dumped out of a carpet. That was NEVER intended to be the first scene we see Cleopatra. From the script I learned that there was a whole story of Cleopatra outside Alexandria, and she and the others planned to meet Caesar and how to sneak her in. Just after they got to the Palace, some soldiers almost caught them and the maid had to lure the guards away... it was thrilling to read the pages of the script! There are sooo much to saying about what Cleopatra should have been, but sadly, no one expect FOX has the missing footage, and they are the best scenes of the movie (some scenes were so humorous that I laughed out loud!).

In the late 70's, 20th Century FOX called a recording session to record the lines of the movie so they can restore it, since the sound elements were missing. But it was called off at the last minute. But the three-and-half hours of missing film footage was NEVER lost! With today's technology, they can totally restore the film back, including the sound. They also have the missing part of the unused scores, but why doesn't FOX, after making a two hour documentary about the film, restore it? No one knows! Movies like "A Star is Born", "Lawrence of Arabia", "Sparticus", and many other classic movies has been successfully restored and loved by many. Why not Cleopatra? I am writing just to let you know the truth about the movie, and hopefully, if more people know maybe FOX will restore the film to the intended way. In a Late interview with four-time Oscar winner Joseph L Mankiewicz, the director and screenwriter of the movie, when the subject Cleopatra went up, he literately cried (on TV!). He said he wanted the film to be perfect that he bit his nails until they were bleeding that he had to wear gloves when he was writing the script... He called Cleopatra his "butchered masterpiece". But however, it's still one of the best movies out there! Totally worth buying!!

FOX: PLEASE RESTORE CLEOPATRA BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE, BEFORE THE FILM ROTS OR A STUDIO FIRE AND BURNS THEM TO DUST, LIKE FOX'S 1917 VERSION OF CLEOPATRA!

THE BEST FROM OLD HOLLYWOOD
Although Miss Taylor is no match compared to Vivien Leigh in CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA; this i s by far the best epic from old Hollywood - and the most entertaining..... Enough said. Ok, I can`t shut up; the arrival of Cleopatra into Rome is a masterpiece in itself... and the choreography is by the renowned Hermes Pan:-)

Spectacular Film About a Powerful Woman
"Cleopatra" is a great film released in 1963 about rise and relationships of the woman herself played by Elizabeth Taylor. This five-time Oscar winning spectacular film gives a rise to audiences of all kinds. Its beauty is never to be forgotten. The hard work and dedication placed onto this film shows greatly. Such film quality answers why it's since become a highly remembered classic. Its brilliant plot follows the emotional path of Cleopatra through her rise in power and her life turbulances. The emotional value stands greatly beyond the spectacular surroundings. This doesn't distract from the many history details expressed. The love themes are romantic as any great love classic. The sense of loss and struggle, namely losing those closest to her and trying to stop the wars from erupting, are greatly present.

All five Oscar wins were won for the spectacular surroundings that continue to amaze audiences after forty-one years: costume design, art direction, special effects, sets, cinematography. Few other films from the classic days was as elaborate as "Cleopatra". The multi-million dollars spent was worth it. The backgrounds are accurate desplictions of the actual Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome. The buildings and the structure styles are amazing. The wardrobes are accurate to the actual styles worn by the characters. The elaborate costumes, namely the ones worn by Cleopatra, are unforgettable. This set a record for most costume changes by an actress for one film, 32, which would take 33 years to break ("Evita", 68). The make-up work blends perfectly with every costume.

Elizabeth Taylor's role as Cleopatra is unforgettable. Her previous research of the subject is present. More perfect is the Oscar nominated role (Best Supporting Actor) of Caeser played by Rex Harrison. His expressions of love and life turbulances greatly improve the movie's theme. All other actors also play their roles wonderfully: Richard Burton, Martin Landau, Carroll O'Connor, and others.

"Cleopatra" is a great classic film that will continue amazing audiences for many more years. This will leave them with an unforgettable experience. After viewing, those looking for more should also watch the bonus features, which have a lot of interesting details behind the film.

One of the best epics ever made!
I can't really add much to some of the wonderful reviews I have read about this DVD set (the 5 Star Collection). But I do want to say that if you love this movie or even just like this movie, the documentary that is included with this 3-disc set is worth buying this DVD set just by itself. It's one of the most entertaining and interesting documentaries I've ever seen on the making of a movie and all the interesting and strange events that happened while making the movie and after the movie. The movie is absolutely beautiful - the sets and costumes are magnificent - the money spent on this film is so obvious. I wish they would restore this movie to the director's original plan and put back the other half of the movie that was cut out! I would pay lots of money to buy a director's cut of this movie. impressive
Following the success of his thesis project "Who's that knocking at my door", Scorcese returned in 1973 with Mean Streets. Like a lot of other of Scorcese's films, Mean Streets explores the catholic guilt of the main character(Keitel) while drawing a contrast to another(DeNiro).
Keitel is near perfect in his role. In most other films, the audience would hardly consider Keitel a protagonist. He runs numbers, wacthes strippers, and does not "love" his girlfriend. However, when compared to Deniro's Johnny boy or some of the other characters in the film, one can't help but admire his altruism. In Mean Streets, Keitel plays the only role he is capable of playing well: A man stuck in two different worlds; In this case the world of clubs, dark alleys and violent street corners and the other more peaceful and disciplined world he strives for.
I don't care much for DeNiro's character, so I will not comment much on him, however it is only fitting that I reccomend some other films for Kietel fans on fans of this genre. Bad Lieutenant is the best place for any Keitel fan to start, but it is certainly not for the faint hearted. Taxi Driver also stars Keitel, but DeNiro is the main character. These films both tell the story of a man who is so fed up with the turmoil he observes every day on the streets, that he takes a road which eventually results in his own destruction.

the most influential independent film
"Mean Streets," simply put, is the greatest independent film ever made. At the very least, it pioneered what modern audiences have come to associate with the best of indie cinema, and what, by the late '90s, has become so essential to our perception of so-called "hip" movies that the once daring and exhilarating techniques are now mostly used as frustrating cliches. The picture itself, made in 1973, is most famous for kick-starting three major careers. Martin Scorsese and Robert DeNiro later collaborated as a director/actor team on four more masterpieces: "Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull" "The King of Comedy" and "Goodfellas." Harvey Keitel, in the leading role, went on to play other memorable characters, like "Pulp Fiction"'s Mr. Wolf. Cast as Charlie , a small-time, young gangster in New York's Little Italy, Keitel struggles to make sense of his Catholic background and help his troubled friend (DeNiro) stay out of the powerful Mafia players' way. What seems to be a familiar scenario, used as far back as the classic Bogart/Cagney vehicles, gets an unusually complex treatment from Scorsese. A conventional, linear plot structure with big speeches and witty one-liners from main characters is abandoned for a grittier, naturalistic approach. The film consists of a series of telling episodes, related only through their participants. "Mean Streets" has much more in common with the works of Italian Neo-realism or French New Wave, rather than a typical gangster drama. Its unorthodox, original, yet unpretentious camera work gives the film an unprecedented vitality that young filmmakers have attempted to recreate for decades. Now commonplace shots, such as a subtitled introduction of a particular character, a fight sequence tracked through the four corners of a room in a single take, a swaying hand-held camera to create the sense of an alcohol-induced stupor, have all been popularized through this movie, a veritable Bible of dynamic cinematography. Another revolutionary aspect of "Mean Streets" is the virtual lack of a script. Most of the key scenes were almost fully improvised, thus sounding far more authentic than the old-style, theatrical delivery used in most American films up to that time. The actors' speech is so profanity-ridden that no screenwriter of the time could have possibly doctored anything even close. De Niro's flamboyant turn as a youth on the edge of sanity is unlike anything before. In fact,the swear-fests of later crime movies (and indie classics like "Clerks") owe a direct debt to his extraordinary performance as Johnny Boy. One of Scorcese's most groundbraking achievements was his incorporation of popular songs into the soundtrack. All of the icluded music originates elsewhere- Italian traditional recordings (Opera arias, Folk tunes) and for the most part, glorious, irresistable Rock'n'Roll of the early 60's (Motown, the Stones, Girl Groups, DooWop).The easily identifiable hits serve as atmospheric settings, adding an extra, personal dimension to any given scene. George Lucas' "American Graffiti", released in the same year, operated by the same principle, establishing a tradition that seems to expand with every coming year. As it is often the case with true independent cinema, "Mean Streets" was ignored at the box office, despite an underground acclaim which helped launch not only the great talents behind it, but an entire school of filmmaking.

Overlooked and underappreciated
This is a fantastic film, and I'm going to tell you why I think so, and by the time you finish reading this, you just might change your mind about it, or run out and have to see it.

The music is great. Perfectly fits the time period and setting, I dunno how much they had to pay in royalties for the songs in this film, but I love em'.

The camera work is fantastic. There's a scene where the camera gives you charlie's viewpoint, stumbling, wobbling across the bar, lights flashing, people dancing, music blaring, then zooms out to his smiling happy face. Then there's the filming of the street festival and the overall way which New York is captured so perfectly. It feels like you are really in the city, the movie has that gritty feeling to it.

The dialogue is great, many of it is ad libed by Deniro and Keitel. This is the beginning of ad libbed dialogue for deniro, the culmination being his speech in front of the mirror in taxi driver; "You talkin' to me"? There's a scene where Keitel confronts Deniro outside the bar to ask him about his debt, the exchange is perfect, it could never have been written and its executed beautifully.

The acting is also fantastic throughout.

So, great acting, great filmwork and great dialogue all come together to create a wonderfully realistic film.

Now, the end of the movie, maybe you didn't understand it, so I'll explain the film. I'll try not to spoil the ending.

Ok, so Charlie does some bad things, he works for the mob after all, and he wants to repent for his sins, so, after going to church and then later seeing jonny boy in a bar he thinks that God has asked him to repent for his sins on the streets, by helping out Jonny Boy. He doesn't believe that saying a few hail mary's or confessing washes away one's sins. So enter the walking train wreck that is Jonny Boy.

Now, what type of person is Jonny Boy? He has no sense of responsibility, he does not answer to anyone, he does not obey any rules, never does what is expected of him.

Hmm, so what type of person is Charlie? There are several scenes in the film that let you know what type of person charlie is. The statement Charlie loves everybody and everybody loves Charlie almost sums it up. Charlie wants to please everyone. But his life is full of conflict. You can't be in the mob and be religious, it just doesn't work that way. You can't hang out with guys who are racist and date an African American. These are just a few examples, but suffice to stay that Charlie wants everyone to like him, the local mob boss, his friends, his God, but he also wants to be happy and do the things he wants to do. There is conflict in all of this. Some of the other people that charlie wants to please, eg., God and the mob boss, have conflicting agendas. Some of the people that charlie wants to please conflict with what he personally wants to do with his life, eg. he is embarassed to be dating the epileptic because he thinks it shows weakness to his friends, but he loves her and she makes him happy.

You cannot please everyone. The irony of this film, and this is a little spoiler, is that while charlie is trying to save jonny boy, he should take a few lessons from him. Jonny Boy does whatever he wants without thinking about who he might upset, or disappoint. Charlie is the complete opposite. Yeah, Jonny Boy is destructive and his life is falling apart, but the point is that the two of them represent two opposite extremes. This is why the end of the film is tragic, its the lesson that you can't make everyone happy, that life is full of conflict, the conflict may be between different people in your life which you try to please, or between yourself and other people in your life. These basic conflicts and how we deal with them sum up who we are as human beings.

So there are many reasons why this film is great, I highly recommend giving it a second chance. I watch it every once in awhile and it really is one of my favorite films.

"Mean Streets" my @5$
Good god what a f*cking waste of time and money. When I was at work I was talkin' to my buddy Travis about the worst movies we'd ever seen and he mentioned a movie with DeNiro & Keitel but he couldn't remember the name. He said "Johnny Boy" and I was like, "Oh yeah, that's Mean Streets!" We agreed this is one of the top worst f*cking movies EVAR MADE!! That's right dude, do NOT watch this! You will be saying things like, "What's the point?" "What was the plot of that movie?" "It just ended, like THAT?" Seriously, you'd be better off just watching Goodfellas or Casino or Taxi Driver one more time.

This is one of those movies that works for all the wrong reasons--disgusting, lowbrow, base humor that we are all far too sophisticated to find amusing. So, just don't tell anyone you still think it's a riot to watch John Belushi as the brutish Bluto slurp Jell-O or terrorize his less-aggressive fellow students. This crude parody of college life in the '60s spawned many imitations, but none could match the fresh-faced talent or bad taste of this huge box office success. Faber College during fall fraternity pledge season is the place all young men want to be regardless of societal ranking. The disparity between two of the fraternities is quickly evident when we see the wealthy white young men recruiting look-a-likes to join their fraternity and snubbing wannabe's who don't quite measure up. The wealthy frat house has the approval of the school's Dean Wormer and he despises with a passion the characters who choose Delta House fraternity. Dean Wormer wants Delta House off of his campus and he asks Omega House (the rich boys) to help him accomplish this task. This is where the fun begins.

It doesn't take long for the viewer to realize that fun-loving, sloppy, middle-class guys inhabit Delta house and they live for pulling pranks on the Omega House fraternity and Dean Wormer.

This movie truly portrays college life on campuses during the 1970's. The underdog Delta House is only looking for acceptance and they won't stop at anything to achieve it! The pledge class consists of all the rejects from Omega House not only from this year but year's past. Together this group works together to undo Dean Wormer's wish to rid their house from his campus.

Flounder's experience with the horse is hysterical. The lunchroom scene with Bluto is classic. Otter's "happy-go-lucky" love interests including Dean Wormer's life are characteristic of a young man's college sexual escapades of the 70's. The closing of the Delta House and the road trip are comical. And finally the parade of all parades allows Delta House to get their revenge.

Life, Liberty, And Fraternity
Animal House is a rowdy and riotous look at college life in 1962. Faber College is home to the infamous Delta Fraternity. Known for its wild parties, peeping toms, food fights, and practical jokes at Dean Wormer's (John Vernon) expense.

Director John Landis assembled a great cast for this film. Aside from the late John Belushi as "Bluto", there's inspired lunacy from Tim Matheson, Tom Hulce, a very young Kevin Bacon, Stephen Furst as "Flounder", Mark Metcalf, Peter Riegert and Karen Allen, all have a memorable moment or two. The script, written by Harold Ramis, Douglas Kennedy, and Chris Miller, gives us plenty of laughs. Anyone who watches this will identify with at least one character in the film. Many people that have seen Animal House has their favorite bit in the movie. As for me, it has to be the horse in the Dean's offce, I laugh every time--Belushi was born to play "Bluto"

To celebrate the film's 25th Anniversary, the Double Secret Probation DVD, boasts some solid extas. A somewhat funny "mock-u-mentary", catches up with the cast as their characters. Some of the jokes work better than others. But everyone gives it the "old college try" and has fun. Instead of an audio commentary, there's an animated anecdotes trivia mode that's fun. The cast and crew gather again for a retrospective documentary about the film. This 45 minute feature is filled with great stories about the production-ala the Caddyshack DVD. The song "Shout", sung by Otis And The Knights in the film, gets a video from MxPx. The theatrical trailer, additional production/cast+crew notes and DVD-ROM material tops off the disc.

Because Animal House is set in the past, it is timeless, and holds up quite well. It was the first of its kind and remains a comedy classic. If you have never seen this, do yourself a favor...if you already have seen the movie before...this is one reunion use should not miss.

Classic College Movie
This is one hilarous movie! My dad always used to tell me how good it was and how he watched it when he was in college, but I never believed him. When I got a DVD player as a gift from my boyfriend my freshman year of college, it was one of the first movies that I purchased. It is so funny and it's a great movie to watch with your friends while you're relaxing and having a few beers! I think that everyone who has ever experienced college parties should be buying this movie because you probably never experienced a party like the guys on Animal House throw! Enjoy!!
