4-0 out of 5 stars Gary is the Best!
Gary Daniels is the most superb movie martial artist of all time. In this movie he finally choreographs his own fight scenes and gets to play a character that is neither to prissy to fear or too enraged to be realistic. He plays Mike Ryan, a special forces guy with the skills to bring down a drug runner. The action in this movie was great considering that it's a martial arts flick. Though Gary Daniels has never let his fans down I need to complain about the director ant the poor lighting throughout the movie. The director seems to really aim for bad angles that miss a lot of the action and sometimes the fights are in front of the sun and all you can see are blurry silhouettes.

I think that the bad parts can still be forgiven due to superior action and fighting scenes, and the use of consistent charicters.

5-0 out of 5 stars fast moving; lots of action
i enjoyed this movie and all the action that came with it. i think Gary Daniels' movies are well worth the rental and purchase fees.

1-0 out of 5 stars One of the worst films I have ever seen.
I cannot stand this movie.I feel disgusted both my time and my money were so badly wasted. It was so bad I came very close to throwing it out the window.Whatever you do,please don't see it.Going into how bad it was would require using up a huge part of the screen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Daniels always delivers!!! White Tiger, and excellent movie
Gary Daniels does an excellent job in this tense, seductive Martial Arts extravaganza!! Kicking and punching his way through the Chinese underworld, Gary Daniels truly is THE White Tiger! The muscular european kickboxing champion is again at his peak, displaying his amazing abilities, and british charm. A must watch for anyone who loves Martial Arts!!!!! ... Read more

RVD, WITHOUT HIM THE MOVIE WOULDN'T HAVE MADE IT OUT OF THE STUDIO, RVD, RVD, RVD.

WATCH HIM IN THE WWF

5-0 out of 5 stars AN ABSOLUTE MUST SEE film for ALL martial arts movie fans!
Ahhh.....Bloodmoon.....Food for hungry martial art flick fanatics. I first caught this movie about 4 yrs ago on cable late one night at about 3:00 a.m. I fell asleep watching another program and woke up during the night and saw this movie showing and couldn't take my eyes off of the screen. The fights are choreographed in a very beautiful manner and the suspense factor was strong enough to keep me up until 4:00 am knowing that i had to get up for work at 7. I highly recommend this film to martial arts lovers everywhere...One thing that I would like to point out is not to let the names and the box fool you. I prefer classic styled,Shaw Brothers & Golden Harvest produced films for the most part "with the exception of Bruce Lee,Jet Li & Jim Kelly" because Van-Damme,Steven Seagal & Jeff Speakman movies and the likes of them just don't cut it with me, but Bloodmoon satisfied my thirst for a truly great fight flick. It's most definately worth a peek. I just wish i could find me a pair of steel heeled boots and two iron fingers like this guy had in the movie....He used them well

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Best BEST! #1
The absolute best Martial arts flick ever ever! I watch it all the time now. Daniels moves fast and hard in evry scene. there are enough fight scenes to keep your heart pumping to the end, each with world class quality. Daniels is even better than he was in "Fist of the North Star". This movie has blood laughs, garanteed smiles and flashy swordwork. It will shock you, mezmorize you and will hynotise you with the best in the world. Gary Daniels is the best and oh, gosh, this is amazing even for him. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A good fun movie
Riot is a great movie that was desperately in need of some editing. Many of the characters in this movie were given far too much time considering that they were either about to die or not be seen again in the movie. The fight scenes were great but much of the action had to be sacrificed to the movies gloomy lighting which made a little under half the fighting a matter of guessing what the heck happened. This movie tried to keep the fights unique by using a fun sound track and some professional sounding scary music. The real applause go to the action scenes like the one with the helicopter (although the fire looked very fake it did look very cool) and the parking lot scene where Gary Daniels runs from two cars trying to hit him. This was a good movie for those willing to wait for the story to come back in but I would prefer that it went into a little less detail of things that didn't matter

3-0 out of 5 stars Sugar Ray Leonard and Gary Daniels in Martial Arts Mayham!!
Riot was a good movie, a little thin on plot, but Gary Daniels as always delivers some increadable Martial Arts action. Suger Ray Leonard was also in the flick and the Bar fight with the two was phenominal. Definatley a movie to watch if you like marital arts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best B-Movie *Ever*...
To me at least this seems like it should have a huge cult following. And yet, it doesn't seem to. I do have some ideas that would have made it a much, much better movie:
1. Make the lip sync off by one or two seconds
2. Have the actors deliver lines in Chinese than make a bad English dub over the top of it.
3. Use really old cameras to give it a real B-Movie feel.

You can really laugh all the way through this movie. As it stands I would still give it a higher rating than SW: Episodes 1 and 2. But that's just me. And I agree the ending is really begging for a TV series/miniseries/sequel. But that doesn't look likely. The dialog is just hilarious. And the actors deliver it with such seriousness. It's almost like Adam West from Batman. At one point in the movie one of the actors hits a camera and they just keep going (this is spotlighted in a clip during the end of the movie just before the credits). I can honestly say I was not bored for this entire movie.

Please keep my B-Movie modifier in mind when look at the 5 star rating.

2-0 out of 5 stars Runs out of plot.
In the future (that looks like hundreds of years ago), the humans live in fear of the cyborgs who need their blood to survive.

The first hour or so, it's a somewhat entertaining grade b adventure movie with below average actors (except Kris Kristofferson), stupid screenplay and cheap effects. After that it runs out of plot and the rest of the movie is long, boring, fighting scenes. The, suddenly it ends before the story is solved, giving a feeling that it's a pilot for a TV-series that was never made.

This movie made me laugh a couple of times, mostly at scenes that probably weren't supposed to be funny, and you can see it without getting too bored, except for at the end. But it's absolutely not a good movie. Stupid screenplay and bad direction, and Kathy Long is pretty bad as the heroine. I wonder what made big actors like Kris Kristofferson and Lance Henriksen choose to be in this movie. Watch it only if it's on TV. Don't pay to see it.

2-0 out of 5 stars jmic
This film seemed to me to be a prequel to some shoot-em-up video game with Kathy Long as a computerized heroine. Can't imagine why such a fine actor as Lance Henriksen would participate. I was exhausted watching him lug the costume around. No doubt Lance and Kris had a good laugh over how to play truncated synthetics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good low budget movie.
I like this movie. I think Kathy Long did an excellent job with a scipt that was a little weak.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kathy Long's fight scenes are truly spectacular!
Though the script, plot, and much of the acting leave much to be desired, the 5-time world champion kick-boxer will have you convinced that she could take on an entire human army single-handed AND kill cyborgs. There are humorous parts too (some intentional, some not), clever parts and some parts that are just plain bizarre. (See if you recognize the head cyborg dude - he is a crack-up.) All in all it is very entertaining. Hey, Pyun, we want a sequel! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Odd and depressing
I bought this movie strictly because of Gary Daniels. I find him to be an exceptionally good-looking and appealing guy, so just watching him is good entertainment for me.

This is definitely an odd movie for Gary. Gary is known for his martials arts skills, and therefore is typically in a movie where those skills are showcased. Here, he plays a character that doesn't even know how to fight. This is not a martial arts movie, but rather, a sci-fi movie. Even if you forget about the fact that it's not a typical Daniels movie, and gauge it just as a sci-fi movie, it's still a bit odd. The plot, and the movie's direction, are somewhat offbeat and jarring. (For example, I'm into sci-fi, but can't recall ever seeing in another movie something like the "dark shadow" in Spoiler. It's just weird. And the sudden disappearance of 20 years out of the main character's life is most jarring). It is also very depressing subject matter. This is definitely not a "feel-good" movie and has a very, very dark look and feel all the way through. Star Wars, it ain't. Watch this movie if you're into dark sci-fi. It was too dark for me.

More than any other movie of his to date, Gary gets an opportunity to act and stretch beyond his usual, constraining role of a revenge-seeking martial arts fighter. And he does well. Clearly, he took the part to prove he could do more, and he can.

Despite the relentless pummeling he gets, Gary looks remarkable in several scenes. (How can a guy this beautiful be unappealing to the eye?). There is one scene of him pumping iron shirtless, to showcase his outstanding physique. There's no love interest at all, which is a total waste of this man's looks, but then, given the subject matter, it makes sense to exclude it.

But mostly, you'll want to watch this movie only if you like very dark sci-fi.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spoiler shall have you spoiled!
Rodger Mason (Gary Daniels) is convicted for a crime he did not commit, and sentenced to one year in prison. Determined to return to his daughter's side, he escapes and is recaptured and frozen for 26 years and again each time he is brought out of the freezer and escapes.

It's clear to see that this movie was made on a budget,. but for those of us who like budget films, this one ia true gem. British action hero Gary Daniels is at his best, mixing comedy with some very good acting.

This movie shall have every Gary Daniels fan, well and truly spoiled!

1-0 out of 5 stars Spoiler definently spoiled!
This movie was such a waste. Here you have one of the best martial artists Gary Daniels in your movie but you have him play a regular guy and get beat up in every fight. You might as well have jet li be in a musical! This movie does have above average computer effects but even that didnt save it. Has a lame ending! If you want to see a good Gary Daniels movie see Bloodmoon , Cold Harvest, Fist of the Northstar. I think he took this role to improve on his acting ability, but we only watch his movies for action and martial arts. Hey Daniels get a better Agent! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars He ain't called "The Dragon" for nothin'
I just sort of stumbled onto the low-budgeted, popular kung-fu action series, BLOODFIST. Mind you, after Bloodfist II, these movies bare no connection to each other, so after Bloodfist II, it really doesn't matter what order you watch them in.
Bloodfist IV:Die Trying was the first one I saw, and let me tell you, it quite literally kicks [rear-end]. Don "The Dragon" Wilson isn't as bad of an actor as his reputation might suggest, and he makes a very impressive action star. Every last fight in all the Bloodfist movies is fantastic, and Die Trying is no exception. The best one here is withou a doubt the one in the room full of tear gas. I own the first four Bloodfist movies, and
Bloodfist VII:Manhunt, and I'm relentlessly hunting down Bloodfist V:Human Target and Bloodfist VI:Ground Zero on the internet, as well as some of Wilson's other flicks, like Blackbelt and The Capitol Conspiracy. Trust me, if you enjoy the high kickin' performances of Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Jean-Claude Van Damme, or if your'e familiar with legends like Bruce Lee, or his son Brandon Lee, Don "The Dragon" Wilson is right up your alley, and the Bloodfist series is a great place to start.

4-0 out of 5 stars B-Grader with punch...
Okay, Im not really a martial-arts fan, fans of this movie, and I know they exist, will split into 2 camps. Fans of martial arts in particular Don Wilson, and bewitched male fans of female martial arts star Catya Sassoon, now tragically the late Catya Sassoon. The storyline is formulaic, Wilson works as a repo-man tied to a car junk-yard, and uses his martial-arts prowess to deal with occasional difficult clients who dont want their car repossessed. One day, during a car repo, Wilson encounters a tough customer in the category, a guy twice Wilsons size who is also a formidable martial-artist, and a mob-henchman as it turns out. This is certainly a good fight, right here, the second of many in the movie, the fights, to me, are convincing, Wilson and his opponents are all 1st class fighters. Wilson wins this one , after taking many hits, but the BMW he repos contains something of great value to a very nasty ruthless criminal gang with big plans. Wilson returns to his workplace later after dropping off the BMW earlier, to find his workmates and boss dead or dying, the gang he crossed with this particular repo have dropped by, his young daughter is tracked down and kidnapped as collateral for the as-yet unrecovered mob property, and Wilson embarks on a bloody bare-knuckles oddysey to recover her, aided by a GOOD woman, Amanda Wyss.
Now, there is also a BAD woman, deliciously shaking-hands bad, Lisa, played by Catya Sassoon, a martial artist, and star of 'Angel Fist'. In that, she was good, well, in BloodFist4, she finds her calling, is a ruthless tough high-kicking switchblade-slashing killer who steams up the screen and steals the show if you are a good boy who dreams of bad ladies, let me tell you. Wilson clashes with her twice, once when she impersonates an agency baby-sitter, and again right at the end, where they stage the films final martial-arts fight.Shortly prior to this, she disposes of two redundant mob goons by suddenly drawing her switchblade and slashing them as she shows them to the door, smiling evilly as they crumple gasping in front of her.She enjoys her work. In this scene, she is in black costume with thigh-high stilletto-heeled boots, with switch-blade tucked into boot. Did I mention she has a killer body, no pun intended? Anyway, she jumps Wilson running through a doorway and heaps some one-sided punishment on him, lots of high-kicks with those boots, a nice head-kneeing to a staggered Wilson, and at the climax, a ball-busting booted groin-kick with Wilson pinned against the wall, then, drawing her switchblade for the coup-de-grace, the tide tragically? turns........
Catya had cult-figure potential, based on this movie, I would have loved a rewrite remake with A.) more Catya action B.) better lighting, the final fight Ive described takes place in dark-lit gloomy background and with her dark attire, you are robbed of some detail.
To sum up, the story-line is familiar, the acting and script very ordinary though Ive seen worse, the fights are brutal and well-staged/well fought, but evil Lisas scenes may have you wearing out the rewind/slomo of your vcr....and even have you rooting for the baddie-ess. I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great demonstration of a great woman

4-0 out of 5 stars The End?
Here we go again. Kenshiro continues on his quest to rid the earth of worthless scum and uphold the honor of Hokuto Shinken. Heads explode and fists do indeed fly. Some of these episodes delve into Ken's past (a nice change) and we get introduced to his three adoptive brothers who all veying to be the true successor of their father's martial art "Hokuto Shinken".

As a nice bonus, you get a few extra episodes on this disc (compared to the previous 4). Still, one thing left me scratching my head..this isn't the end,not by a long shot! Yes I did check...Kenshiro still has a few more fights in him, but its up to Manga Ent to acquire the rights and put out the rest (quickly, let's hope).

Back to the DVD..audio and video are satisfactory. Obviously I recommend the Japanese language track with subs (hey, its the way it was meant to be!) Just sit back, relax and watch the Ken dispatch foe after foe with skill and the line "You are already dead". You won't regret it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff yet bad animation
I enjoyed this. It was on one of those starz movie channels and I got to see the first 4 episodes. It is alright. Ken, a.k.a. Kenshiro, is pretty cool. The boy Bart is a little out of place. He just shows up and trusts this strange martial artists who can kill guys with insanely weird moves. The girl also seems out of her element.

The fights are alright, but the juice of the episodes are the kills. Every episode has these weird deaths like "exploding fingers" or "your dead in 7 seconds from my fingers in your neck". Stuff like that happens.

The problem with these episodes is animation. There is only, mabye 2 scenes you can consider fights. Almost every other death is by some weird killing move that lasts a few seconds but requires 2 clips of animation. Then, instead of showing the actual guys fall apart, they make the screen all bright and you see the shadow of the guys go all squishy and fall apart. Not cool.

On top of that. There is so little animation that it is a little infuriating. It almost feels like the creators tried to use one frame at least twice. I remember seeing 6 cars speeding through a city. 2 cars sped across followed by 4 others. The 4 other cars were just clones of the first 2. You could clearly see the exact same people go across the screen 3 times. As I said earlier, the fights all involve one or 2 moves. A frame is one little shot of the characters. I'd say it takes about 5 frames for a character in Dragonball Z to punch someone slowly. There may be 10 different frames tops to one fight in this anime. It is almost pathetic.

Normally I don't have high expectations. I'm satisfied by even the lowest animation if there is a story or something interesting. I remember seeing tons of old animes that had bad animation but still kept my interest. This seriously though has to be some of the worst use of animating I have ever seen. If Ken wasn't so awesomely cool I would of given this DVD 1 star.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone
I give it 5 stars because it is a great introduction to the series, and has some of the best episodes of the whole series. I really watch this disc often.

Fist of the Northstar is a violent japanese animated series, which takes place in a postnuclear western setting where only the strongest, and usually most brutal survive.

FOTNS starts with Kenshiro (the true fist of the northstar and main charactor) searching for his love Yulia, and old-friend (and kidnapper of Yulia) Shin. Kenshiro has seven scars making up the constelation of the big dipper on his chest which were given to him when Shin took Yulia away from him. On Kens journey he encounters and befriends two children who accompany him on his travels. They play a major role in the first 4 discs, and really help level out the story and violence with the humanity they bring.

During their travels they run across people (usually struggling farmers)who get bullied, robbed and killed by ruthless bands of super-strong villains who have no mercy (lots of really innocent people get murdered with brutality by motorcycle thugs). Ken usually gets their a moment to late to save some mom, old man, or child, but he always makes the villain die an explosive death. Ken is a Good man and he knows that the only way to stop the violence is to destroy the villains. There are always ranks of bad guys who Kenshiro must punch his way through, so your always waiting for him to get to the next stronger badguy.

On his way to get to Yulia and Shin (like 20 episodes), Ken uses his Hokoto shinken (misspelled) a special martial art passed on from father to son where by knowing how to press punch or kick certain power points on a body, you can manipulate the body to do what you want it to do. Kenshiro can heal but to his enemies he will probally explode their chest or face out, or cooler. Only one man on Earth can practice Hokto shinken at a time.

If you like horror/scifi/fantasy/comedy/animation, dont mind the gritty feel, and low quality compared to anime gems like Samurai x, Neon Genesis Evangelion, or Rahxephon. You should buy FOTNS (for $18 a disc at Bestbuy, or circuitcity). If you like movies like Army of Darkness, Road Warrior, Conan the barbarian, The Streetfighter, From dusk til Dawn, etc. buy this. If your a fan of great hip hop artists like Mf Doom (listen to most of his albums after watching series especially the 2003 releases ) El-p cannabal ox aesop rock, old Wu tang, Necro, buy this series. Musical taste really has nothing to do with you liking FOTNS though, I'm just saying you can see the influence throughout popular culture.

The only bad part about the whole FOTNS series is that around episode 22 or 23 on disc 4 another journey begins with a different new mission and mostly new charactors , it's still good after but the series could have ended there. Also at the end of the series on episode 35 on disc 5 the last episode of the series there is no conclusion, though disc 5 still follows the recipe found in disc 1 minus the humanity. If you don't mind recurring themes, some recycled content, and probally like 20-25 deaths a 20 minute episode average, and some of the funniest lines you've ever heard on a cartoon, coming from awful post-nuclear mohawked bad guys, buy disc one.

4-0 out of 5 stars conclusion?
I just bought and watched this disc. Since about 5/03 I've been buying 1,2,3,and 4 and have watched 1,2,3,at least 3 or 4 times, and 4 twice. I first learned of F.o.t.n.s. the movie like ten years ago looking for a video to watch. I haven't seen it in a few years but from what i remember it ended with Kenshiro fighting hi evil brother Raoh, coming to a conclusion.

Disc 5 starts with Kenshiro finishing off The Fang Clan and ends with him setting off to find the oldest of his three brothers Raoh. On the back of the dvd it says 5 deadly Dvd volumes. The fifth volume ended with no conclusion, ken just sets off to face his mightiest opponent.

it's sort of disapointing buying dvd after dvd (of great entertainment) waiting for Kenshiro to defeat a last opponent, and he doesn't.

If you own no fist of the northstar dvds definitly start with the first volume, definitly, or maybe just the movie. Each dvd ends with no real conclusion so be prepared you will always want the next volume. Volumes 1-3 are my favorites, especially the episodes with "gods army". Disc 4 and 5 of the series , to me, lose steam. The introduction of ray in disc 4 doesnt really go any wehere in the 5th disc

Whats good about volume 5
more heads and bodies exploding (though it seems like they use the same animation disc to disc sometime)
bone crushing lines and dialog
unnecesary violence heavy death count
interesting villains
bare boned simple animation
All 5 volumes are great to have on as background dvds, There good to put on when hanging with friends, or drawing, really there good to listen to as an alternative to music sometimes. A good dvd is one you can watch countless times and discs 1-5 you can as long as you know what to expect fists flying heads exploding. Fist of the northstars quality is not in clean animation or even quality dvds, one of the episodes sound is really messed up on disc 5 for like 5 minutes. its quality is in repetition, violence, style, characters, and dialog.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fist of the North Star
It was a beautifully intricate blend of flavors that make this a classic. I laughed and cried at its beauty.......... The ecstacy is similar to the ecstacy felt that you would recive if you arrived in heaven, looked into god's face, and he said, "You, you are my most wonderous creation. Come, be with me." The most touching, heart felt, truly powerful piece that ever graced my vision. I would rather die than have not have seen it in its glory. 2-0 out of 5 stars Not to the potential
I think that Gary Daniels is way below his potential in Deadly Target. In his other movies I'd like to think that he has set a new standard for all other martial arts movies to follow. In Fist of the North Star He shows himself to be like a deity and in Bloodmoon and Recoil and Cold Harvest but in this movie one has to settle for very very good. This movie has joint locks without the snap or the one vital second of silence where the audience and the henchman realize that the limb has broken.

Yes, this is a good martial arts movie Yes, it makes Van Damme look like a pudgy schoolgirl. Yes, most of the world could watch this and say "Oh, Wow!" But I know that Daniels can do things that take the martial world a step farther than it was the day before. And this movie IS good but only good. Sorry Gary. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fans of over-the-top-action movies
This is great action movie! Guns, stunts, explotions, who could ask for more! The police are in a fire fight with some highly trained bank robbers. One of the bank robbers killed happens to be the son of a powerful mob family in L.A. and the family starts to take down the officers one by one. But only one man is brave enough to take the family down...Det. Ray Morgan(Gary Daniels). Of course there is dialog and acting that isn't really up to par. But this movie doesn't have to be an Oscar winning type of perforance? This movie was made for people who want to see some good ole action pact fun.

2-0 out of 5 stars The actors made it work
The actors in this movie didn't have much to work with. The first half hour of the movie is just a long chase scene with very few lines or any chance for performance. The next half hour is poorly written dialouge dragged out far longer than it ever needed to be. In this section the plot reveals itself and Gary Daniels is blamed for the "murder" of a runaway bank robber. when the bank robbers' wealthy parents learn this they send assasins after Daniels and everyone he ever knew and loved. I think a lot of these things could have been done better. There are some neat directors tricks but everything feels junky because the writer repeats everything over and over to make sure the audience understands. After 30 minutes of chaseing and 40 minutes of dialouge Gary Daniels is in his first fight scene in the movie. Gary Daniels though a little late proves himself again as the most incredable movie martial artist of all time. From here most of the movie is Daniels charicter walking around beating people up shooting a few and kicking a few more... The ending is an unsatisfying bullet in the heads of all the assassins' runners. Then he walks off into the screen to complete his life in some unexplained mysterious way. I would recomend the last half hour to martial arts fans and the first half hour to car chase fans. But the overall movie changes its purposes three times, and I dont think it works. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The horror, the horror
I can not explain to you how much I hated this movie. If I could give this movie negative stars, I would. Why is this movie so bad you ask, well I will tell you. The movie does not flow together at all. Prime example is the scene with the reporter in the house. The scene lasted about 5 seconds, he was in and then out. The reporter then showed a ten minute interview that supposedly took place in the 5 seconds. It supposedly takes place in southern California, but the sheriff sound like he came out of the Smokey and the Bandit. The sheriff thought the English guy was Mexican. What's the deal with that? Even though I hate this movie to the core of my being, I have made it my mission to buy every copy I run across. I am stockpiling these in hopes that one day I will own every copy. When I do, I am going to have a big bonfire and chuck all of them into it, thus riding this world of such a blight. I do not want aliens coming down after we are all gone and finding that movie......

2-0 out of 5 stars a great action for those with good attention spans
"Rage" does some really dangerous work like the main charicter falling what looks like ten stories onto a scafold. this particular stunt did not use weird angles or cut-aways and the actor Gary Daniels claims to do all of his own stunts (other than hellicopter car stuff)

there are lots of very dangerous very authentic looking stunts in this movie but all toghether, they just arent that exciting. one example is a long scene in which the charicter runs from police in a sixteen wheeler smashing through cop cars. this is a great idea that streaches about 15 minutes for what could take maby three. It's not a matter of suspense it's a matter of moving on.

supposedly the charicter was forced to take chemecals that could turn him into a super warrior. but in the fights he seems to do about equally well before and after the "rush" kicks in. but even before this super syrum the charicter says he "spent more time in the gym than most people spend watching televison" and he is also very close to his martial arts instructor. I have a hard time seeing any kind of real transition. the fights after his groove kicks in are all very quick. I'd say less than two minutes of fighting in the whole movie not includeing a two minute part where the charicter gets beat up by a tall woman and a short man who do strange pro wrestling techniques

the rest of the movie seems to be trying to get the moral accross that news stations tend to condemn without the facts. it spends almost as much time getting the moral accross as it does trying to follow the actual story.

I can see a lot of potential for all the people who put this movie toghether but in an effort to fill time it just ends up being boreing ...

I did.

2-0 out of 5 stars Moderately interesting
Hmmm, what to say about Gary Daniels epic film American Streetfighter? Well for one thing it was filmed on the cheap, Low budget? Nope. Shoestring budget? Nope. Filmed in some guys basement? Yup. Seriously most of the "sets" look like some guys basement with a few boxes piled about and some xmas lights strung up, and for a little variety they film some stuff in a parking lot or some guys house in the middle of the desert.

Anyway, the film pretty much goes as follows, Gary as a young man is a bit of a punk, and after a firebombing gone bad he heads for the hills, or in this case Hong Kong. 10 years later he finds his brother is in some kind of trouble and heads back to the states. Seems his brother has involved himself in pitfighting for little extra cash (think bumfights but lower rent) Gary doesn't want him to do this so he takes his place, and quickly gets beaten like a rented mule by the "champion" Viper. Awakening in a hospital of sorts he sees things are not up to snuff as it seems that the bodies of dead fighters are being used to transport drugs overseas. That pretty much sums it up, tho' there are things about a long lost son, and love, old vendetas and a pretty cute chick named Reiko who meets a sad end :)

So if you have 7$ burning a hole in your pocket you might pick this up if only for some moderately good martial arts and alot of unintentional laughs.

If I could see Gary Daniels kick butt for two hours strait I would have that tape playing in my house 24\7. Unfortunately some of his movies have been cursed not only with a plot, but with a really bad one. The acting is fine but when a nine-year-old writes a script there is only so much good acting can do. The fights are great. If this movie had a better editor or a director who knew the advantages of changing angles or say a writer who graduated high school this could be a 5 star movie easily. Daniels is the best! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Where's Jet?
Cinema of Vengance isn't bad, although Jet Li, one of the top martial artists in Hong Kong Cinema is never mentioned in the film, probably due to the fact that much of COV is heavily influenced (and produced, if I remember correctly) by Raymond Chow's Golden Harvest Prod., and Li successfully sued GH for lack of payment (The Chinese don't consider it improper to carry a grudge). Other than that, it's pretty good, although the Top Fighter films are much better. Top Fighter comes in two parts, the first about the men in martial arts flims (including Jet Li), the second, and the much better done of the two, contains the ladies of the club. The first TF also contains some grainy but very good footage of Bruce Lee doing chi siao at Ed Parkers Kenpo tournament in the early 60s. (Blockbuster and Hollywood Video carry both of them). Remember that Top Fighter and Cinema of Vengance are both more than a little out of date, but still, COV is worth watching, although some of the scenes they show will only scare away those people who are looking at Hong Kong Cinema for the first time (when COV talks about the Ninja, ouch, that was embarassing to watch). So COV gets 3 stars for me, because of no Jet Li, although the rest of the mainstream stars like Sammo and Jackie get their due (who, unlike Jet Li, happen to have had happier relations with Golden Harvest).

4-0 out of 5 stars an in-depth study of hong kong cinema by one who knows
UK born Toby Russel is considered an expert on HK cinema even in HK itself and his knowledge is put to great use in the documentaries he produces like this one and the "Top Fighter" series (recommended). Although fairly cheaply produced this doc contains many interesting clips and interviews with the stars from the famous to the not so famous. If yoy're interested in learning more about HK cinema then this is recommended and be sure to also check out the "Top Fighter" tapes as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Jackie Chan at his best
i've seen many anime in my childhood. city hunter is very popular in japan and i managed to watch a few episodes in korea. i always wandered what would it be like if an anime show was converted to a movie starring real people. to my luck, city hunter starred the legendary dragon (Jackie Chan). he's not japanese and a little old but that doesn't matter. this movie is full of anime style physical and verbal humor. i can't remember a moment i wasn't laughing. and also the action sequences are awesome. jackie chan is awesome on skateboard (wheels on meals). fight scenes are cool too using his trademark agility and stunning techniques (but no jumping off walls in this movie). jackie chan used a stunt double about 3 times but only for simple things (i don't know why). i can't describe how well the action and comedy are, you just have to see the moive, it's really that good. if you like anime and you like jackie chan, then this movie is perfect for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too absurd even by the Chan standard
Even a bad Jackie Chan movie turns out to be better than most of the action/comedies available, but City Hunter is an exception.

The action is hard to follow, and the humor too childish. By example, while fighting at the game room, he turns into characthers of the "Street fighter" video game, turning even into Chun Li (with make up, dress and everything) and making some of the moves as in the videogame.

It is uncomfortable to enjoy the movie when it turns so stupid. There is a good scene in which Chan, fighting inside a movie theatre, imitates the movements of Bruce Lee on the screen. But thhat scene alone is not worth the experience of "City Hunter"

3-0 out of 5 stars this is a must see for the anime fans
This is a completely different kind of jackie chan movie. I did not see the anime of city hunter but from what i saw in the movie i bet they tried hard to keep to the series with the kind of antics the people in the movie do. I am writing this review without finishing watching the movie, but so far the movie is excellent. The voice is not Jackie Chan's though. Its some one else just like what they did with Gorgeous.

ONE THING I MUST WARN YOU ALL THOUGH IS THAT EVEN THOUGH THE COVER SAYS WIDESCREEN THE MOVIE IS FULL SCREEN.

I bought this movie in best buy for 9.99 and was hoping for the widescreen like it says on the box. this is not a two sided dvd where one side is wide and the other normal. The DVD itself does not say if it is widescreen or full screen. it just say the movie name on it.

I hope this is a screw up on the part of 20th Century Fox where some dum guy mixed a full screen DVD in the widescreen box, but if it isn't then they SUCK real bad. STOP FALSE ADVERTISING to make movie off of Jackie Chan's name. But i didn't find a full screen dvd for sale even online. This is the only reason i give the DVD a 3 out of 5.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worst. Jackie. Ever.
I have probably seen a dozen Jackie Chan movies and loved them all, City Hunter was the first movie of his to dissapoint me. The stunts are almost nonexistant and pretty lame when they do appear. The fight scenes are also dissapointing.

The worst part of the movie would have to be the rap video sequence. It was the most god awful thing that I have seen in my life.

The best part of the movie was when Jackie and his opponents are fighting in a video arcade and they all get transformed into different street fighter 2 characters. That part is actually really cool and if you are an old school fan of street fighter I would recommend renting this DVD just to see that. Other than that this is a movie to pass on.

1-0 out of 5 stars STICK WITH HK IMPORTS "ALWAYS"

Come, be with me." 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Gary D movie
Frankly, I bought this movie for one reason: Gary Daniels, who is one of the most amazingly pretty and appealing men ever created.

This movie is one of Gary's better ones. It has more of a plot than you normally get with a martial arts movie. There is an element of suspense above and beyond the martial arts cliche of loosely tying a bunch of fight scenes together and calling that a "plot". The plot isn't so fresh that you'll say "Wow, I never saw anything like that story before". But neither will you sit there thinking "Did this movie even have a script writer?". It should hold your attention throughout.

Gary looks exceptionally beautiful here, and even shows off his impressive physique somewhat in one scene. His hair style could be a little less squared-off in the bangs, but it's hard to criticize a man who is this handsome.

I'm not into martial arts per se, but I can see this one had a bit more "pizzazz" to the fight scenes than some of his other movies, so someone into martial arts will probably appreciate that aspect. There are a few "Jackie Chan" type of acrobatics to some of the fight moves, but without the usual Jackie Chan "slapstick".

If you want to see what one of the most flawlessly gorgeous men looks like, this is a good DVD to check out (although I think that Gary is even prettier in some of his other movies, due to the not-particularly-flattering hair style in this one).

5-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps THE best martial arts film ever
For pure martial arts/action flicks, Bloodmoon simply has to take the cake. Such a great story line, good acting, and stunning martial arts from a not so well known cast. Darren Shahlavi plays the evil ex champion who makes it his mission to kill high ranking martial arts champions one by one, and city by town. Thus enter Chuck Jeffreys, a police detective teamed up with an ex supercop played by Gary Daniels who must track down Shahlavi and bring him to justice. This is a HIGHLY underrated and overlooked movie which in production had a very limited budget, but delivers superb martial arts action, stunts, great storyline, and definately suspense to keep you in your seat within every single fightscene and obviously the final fight which is a superb climax to the film. In my opinion, Bloodmoon is one of the best martial arts films yet...

4-0 out of 5 stars The one and only reason
There are only three words that describe why I liked this movie: ROB VAN DAM.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bloodmoon is simply the best Martial Arts action movie ever.
I have only seen "Bloodmoon" once but that was enough to know that it is hands down the best martial arts movie ever made. The fight coreography is superb, the plot is entertaining, and the cinematography is unmatched. It is simply the most underrated movie of all time and is a must have for any true movie fan. I would recommend it to anyone!

Disclaimer: The one time I saw "Bloodmoon" I was in an altered state of mind from a mix of wild plants and herbs and this actaully may not be the greatest action movie ever. But I sure did like when I was all messed up!

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty good martial arts flick
this is one the jewels among american chop socky films....the fight scenes a pretty darn good except for the weak wire work..gary daniels and "eddie murphy"(heh heh) put on a good show....but our badguy was the kind i love ,real nasty.....hey did anyone catch ron van dame? ...

Why American production make HK movies look so cheap? First of all, they cut off so much scene, second of all ruin it by making look act so dumb by English Dubb. ALWAYS stick with ORIGINAL LICENSED HK RELEASE. Be careful with cheap imports, boots, and bulls though. ... Read more
