I think that the bad parts can still be forgiven due to superior action and fighting scenes, and the use of consistent charicters.

You can really laugh all the way through this movie. As it stands I would still give it a higher rating than SW: Episodes 1 and 2. But that's just me. And I agree the ending is really begging for a TV series/miniseries/sequel. But that doesn't look likely. The dialog is just hilarious. And the actors deliver it with such seriousness. It's almost like Adam West from Batman. At one point in the movie one of the actors hits a camera and they just keep going (this is spotlighted in a clip during the end of the movie just before the credits). I can honestly say I was not bored for this entire movie. Please keep my B-Movie modifier in mind when look at the 5 star rating.
The first hour or so, it's a somewhat entertaining grade b adventure movie with below average actors (except Kris Kristofferson), stupid screenplay and cheap effects. After that it runs out of plot and the rest of the movie is long, boring, fighting scenes. The, suddenly it ends before the story is solved, giving a feeling that it's a pilot for a TV-series that was never made. This movie made me laugh a couple of times, mostly at scenes that probably weren't supposed to be funny, and you can see it without getting too bored, except for at the end. But it's absolutely not a good movie. Stupid screenplay and bad direction, and Kathy Long is pretty bad as the heroine. I wonder what made big actors like Kris Kristofferson and Lance Henriksen choose to be in this movie. Watch it only if it's on TV. Don't pay to see it.

This is definitely an odd movie for Gary. Gary is known for his martials arts skills, and therefore is typically in a movie where those skills are showcased. Here, he plays a character that doesn't even know how to fight. This is not a martial arts movie, but rather, a sci-fi movie. Even if you forget about the fact that it's not a typical Daniels movie, and gauge it just as a sci-fi movie, it's still a bit odd. The plot, and the movie's direction, are somewhat offbeat and jarring. (For example, I'm into sci-fi, but can't recall ever seeing in another movie something like the "dark shadow" in Spoiler. It's just weird. And the sudden disappearance of 20 years out of the main character's life is most jarring). It is also very depressing subject matter. This is definitely not a "feel-good" movie and has a very, very dark look and feel all the way through. Star Wars, it ain't. Watch this movie if you're into dark sci-fi. It was too dark for me. More than any other movie of his to date, Gary gets an opportunity to act and stretch beyond his usual, constraining role of a revenge-seeking martial arts fighter. And he does well. Clearly, he took the part to prove he could do more, and he can. Despite the relentless pummeling he gets, Gary looks remarkable in several scenes. (How can a guy this beautiful be unappealing to the eye?). There is one scene of him pumping iron shirtless, to showcase his outstanding physique. There's no love interest at all, which is a total waste of this man's looks, but then, given the subject matter, it makes sense to exclude it. But mostly, you'll want to watch this movie only if you like very dark sci-fi.
It's clear to see that this movie was made on a budget,. but for those of us who like budget films, this one ia true gem. British action hero Gary Daniels is at his best, mixing comedy with some very good acting. This movie shall have every Gary Daniels fan, well and truly spoiled!

As a nice bonus, you get a few extra episodes on this disc (compared to the previous 4). Still, one thing left me scratching my head..this isn't the end,not by a long shot! Yes I did check...Kenshiro still has a few more fights in him, but its up to Manga Ent to acquire the rights and put out the rest (quickly, let's hope). Back to the DVD..audio and video are satisfactory. Obviously I recommend the Japanese language track with subs (hey, its the way it was meant to be!) Just sit back, relax and watch the Ken dispatch foe after foe with skill and the line "You are already dead". You won't regret it.
The fights are alright, but the juice of the episodes are the kills. Every episode has these weird deaths like "exploding fingers" or "your dead in 7 seconds from my fingers in your neck". Stuff like that happens. The problem with these episodes is animation. There is only, mabye 2 scenes you can consider fights. Almost every other death is by some weird killing move that lasts a few seconds but requires 2 clips of animation. Then, instead of showing the actual guys fall apart, they make the screen all bright and you see the shadow of the guys go all squishy and fall apart. Not cool. On top of that. There is so little animation that it is a little infuriating. It almost feels like the creators tried to use one frame at least twice. I remember seeing 6 cars speeding through a city. 2 cars sped across followed by 4 others. The 4 other cars were just clones of the first 2. You could clearly see the exact same people go across the screen 3 times. As I said earlier, the fights all involve one or 2 moves. A frame is one little shot of the characters. I'd say it takes about 5 frames for a character in Dragonball Z to punch someone slowly. There may be 10 different frames tops to one fight in this anime. It is almost pathetic. Normally I don't have high expectations. I'm satisfied by even the lowest animation if there is a story or something interesting. I remember seeing tons of old animes that had bad animation but still kept my interest. This seriously though has to be some of the worst use of animating I have ever seen. If Ken wasn't so awesomely cool I would of given this DVD 1 star.
Fist of the Northstar is a violent japanese animated series, which takes place in a postnuclear western setting where only the strongest, and usually most brutal survive. FOTNS starts with Kenshiro (the true fist of the northstar and main charactor) searching for his love Yulia, and old-friend (and kidnapper of Yulia) Shin. Kenshiro has seven scars making up the constelation of the big dipper on his chest which were given to him when Shin took Yulia away from him. On Kens journey he encounters and befriends two children who accompany him on his travels. They play a major role in the first 4 discs, and really help level out the story and violence with the humanity they bring. During their travels they run across people (usually struggling farmers)who get bullied, robbed and killed by ruthless bands of super-strong villains who have no mercy (lots of really innocent people get murdered with brutality by motorcycle thugs). Ken usually gets their a moment to late to save some mom, old man, or child, but he always makes the villain die an explosive death. Ken is a Good man and he knows that the only way to stop the violence is to destroy the villains. There are always ranks of bad guys who Kenshiro must punch his way through, so your always waiting for him to get to the next stronger badguy. On his way to get to Yulia and Shin (like 20 episodes), Ken uses his Hokoto shinken (misspelled) a special martial art passed on from father to son where by knowing how to press punch or kick certain power points on a body, you can manipulate the body to do what you want it to do. Kenshiro can heal but to his enemies he will probally explode their chest or face out, or cooler. Only one man on Earth can practice Hokto shinken at a time. If you like horror/scifi/fantasy/comedy/animation, dont mind the gritty feel, and low quality compared to anime gems like Samurai x, Neon Genesis Evangelion, or Rahxephon. You should buy FOTNS (for $18 a disc at Bestbuy, or circuitcity). If you like movies like Army of Darkness, Road Warrior, Conan the barbarian, The Streetfighter, From dusk til Dawn, etc. buy this. If your a fan of great hip hop artists like Mf Doom (listen to most of his albums after watching series especially the 2003 releases ) El-p cannabal ox aesop rock, old Wu tang, Necro, buy this series. Musical taste really has nothing to do with you liking FOTNS though, I'm just saying you can see the influence throughout popular culture. The only bad part about the whole FOTNS series is that around episode 22 or 23 on disc 4 another journey begins with a different new mission and mostly new charactors , it's still good after but the series could have ended there. Also at the end of the series on episode 35 on disc 5 the last episode of the series there is no conclusion, though disc 5 still follows the recipe found in disc 1 minus the humanity. If you don't mind recurring themes, some recycled content, and probally like 20-25 deaths a 20 minute episode average, and some of the funniest lines you've ever heard on a cartoon, coming from awful post-nuclear mohawked bad guys, buy disc one.
Disc 5 starts with Kenshiro finishing off The Fang Clan and ends with him setting off to find the oldest of his three brothers Raoh. On the back of the dvd it says 5 deadly Dvd volumes. The fifth volume ended with no conclusion, ken just sets off to face his mightiest opponent. it's sort of disapointing buying dvd after dvd (of great entertainment) waiting for Kenshiro to defeat a last opponent, and he doesn't. If you own no fist of the northstar dvds definitly start with the first volume, definitly, or maybe just the movie. Each dvd ends with no real conclusion so be prepared you will always want the next volume. Volumes 1-3 are my favorites, especially the episodes with "gods army". Disc 4 and 5 of the series , to me, lose steam. The introduction of ray in disc 4 doesnt really go any wehere in the 5th disc Whats good about volume 5

there are lots of very dangerous very authentic looking stunts in this movie but all toghether, they just arent that exciting. one example is a long scene in which the charicter runs from police in a sixteen wheeler smashing through cop cars. this is a great idea that streaches about 15 minutes for what could take maby three. It's not a matter of suspense it's a matter of moving on. supposedly the charicter was forced to take chemecals that could turn him into a super warrior. but in the fights he seems to do about equally well before and after the "rush" kicks in. but even before this super syrum the charicter says he "spent more time in the gym than most people spend watching televison" and he is also very close to his martial arts instructor. I have a hard time seeing any kind of real transition. the fights after his groove kicks in are all very quick. I'd say less than two minutes of fighting in the whole movie not includeing a two minute part where the charicter gets beat up by a tall woman and a short man who do strange pro wrestling techniques the rest of the movie seems to be trying to get the moral accross that news stations tend to condemn without the facts. it spends almost as much time getting the moral accross as it does trying to follow the actual story. I can see a lot of potential for all the people who put this movie toghether but in an effort to fill time it just ends up being boreing ... Read more | |

The action is hard to follow, and the humor too childish. By example, while fighting at the game room, he turns into characthers of the "Street fighter" video game, turning even into Chun Li (with make up, dress and everything) and making some of the moves as in the videogame. It is uncomfortable to enjoy the movie when it turns so stupid. There is a good scene in which Chan, fighting inside a movie theatre, imitates the movements of Bruce Lee on the screen. But thhat scene alone is not worth the experience of "City Hunter"
ONE THING I MUST WARN YOU ALL THOUGH IS THAT EVEN THOUGH THE COVER SAYS WIDESCREEN THE MOVIE IS FULL SCREEN. I bought this movie in best buy for 9.99 and was hoping for the widescreen like it says on the box. this is not a two sided dvd where one side is wide and the other normal. The DVD itself does not say if it is widescreen or full screen. it just say the movie name on it. I hope this is a screw up on the part of 20th Century Fox where some dum guy mixed a full screen DVD in the widescreen box, but if it isn't then they SUCK real bad. STOP FALSE ADVERTISING to make movie off of Jackie Chan's name. But i didn't find a full screen dvd for sale even online. This is the only reason i give the DVD a 3 out of 5.
The worst part of the movie would have to be the rap video sequence. It was the most god awful thing that I have seen in my life. The best part of the movie was when Jackie and his opponents are fighting in a video arcade and they all get transformed into different street fighter 2 characters. That part is actually really cool and if you are an old school fan of street fighter I would recommend renting this DVD just to see that. Other than that this is a movie to pass on.

This movie is one of Gary's better ones. It has more of a plot than you normally get with a martial arts movie. There is an element of suspense above and beyond the martial arts cliche of loosely tying a bunch of fight scenes together and calling that a "plot". The plot isn't so fresh that you'll say "Wow, I never saw anything like that story before". But neither will you sit there thinking "Did this movie even have a script writer?". It should hold your attention throughout. Gary looks exceptionally beautiful here, and even shows off his impressive physique somewhat in one scene. His hair style could be a little less squared-off in the bangs, but it's hard to criticize a man who is this handsome. I'm not into martial arts per se, but I can see this one had a bit more "pizzazz" to the fight scenes than some of his other movies, so someone into martial arts will probably appreciate that aspect. There are a few "Jackie Chan" type of acrobatics to some of the fight moves, but without the usual Jackie Chan "slapstick". If you want to see what one of the most flawlessly gorgeous men looks like, this is a good DVD to check out (although I think that Gary is even prettier in some of his other movies, due to the not-particularly-flattering hair style in this one).
Disclaimer: The one time I saw "Bloodmoon" I was in an altered state of mind from a mix of wild plants and herbs and this actaully may not be the greatest action movie ever. But I sure did like when I was all messed up!
