If you are a person that enjoys skiing and you don't take yourself very serious then you will love this movie. The movie makes you want to grab your sticks, a six pack and hit the slopes. If you like movies that are well done full of good acting then stay away from Ski School. If you like stupid movies and just want to laugh a lot then this is your movie. Just sit back and enjoy.

While I no longer remember all the details of Highball, I felt that the characters were poorly defined and the plot less meaningful than Mr. Jealousy and Kicking & Screaming. The movie seemed incomplete and hastily put together. If you like literate, witty ensemble comedies, you should definitely see Kicking and Screaming, then Mr. Jealousy, then the Whit Stillman trilogy (which also features Chris Eigeman): Metropolitan, Barcelona, and The Last Days of Disco. All 5 of those being among my favorites.

It reminded me greatly of the film The Core in various parts, in fact I think that The Core took a great deal from this low budget sci-fi than people are willing to admit. The plot is quite simple, it's a save the from destruction movie, with your obligatory bad guy who finds his conscience at the last minute and saves the others by sacrificing his own life, the gruesome death of a likeable crew member (Rodney) and the exciting ride in the bowels of the earth by the survivors trying to make it to the surface in one piece! Of course there are other baddies in that the Deep Core Machine they are using has been built and funded by the Chinese who want to use it as weapon at some point and the sleazy American bad Daryl guy played with gusto by the dead pan actor James Russo gets his just deserts at the end. It is nothing spectacular but it is good fun to watch! The special effects aren't all that brilliant though they do have their moments, the finding of a huge diamond cavern is one of them, the lasers on the Deep Core machine another, and I thought the lava flow was pretty good too! All in all this is quality cheese, and I really enjoyed it and I'm not ashamed to admit to it online!
Deep Core is based on the same basic premise as 2003's The Core - Man has screwed up the earth and has to tunnel down into the earth to fix it. The Core is clearly the better of the two movies. Deep Core, on the other hand, has all of the same elements: a ship (The Core's is a lot better looking), a crew, a few nuclear warheads, a person that gets killed by lava, and a person that sacrifices themselves for the rest of the group. Once you get passed those basic similarities, Deep Core is but a pour precursor to the later film. It has three good actors: Wil Wheaton, Terry Farrell and Bruce McGill; the rest are generally overly dramatic. There are a few special effects that don't look all that bad (such as the cutting scenes). All of the earth-quake-type scenes look rather fake and the ship looks poorly suited to the type of work that it was designed for. Overall, its not a bad film, but if you have a choice watch The Core, not Deep Core.
It was recommended by Wil on his site (see url below) yesterday so we hopped down to the video store and rented it. It's cheesy and fun and a great movie. Nice death scene, Wil....

Yet "Bad Dreams" is a cut above for many reasons. The first being that the film is filled with surrealistic arresting images-in particular, the house where the mass suicide took place is an intriguing looking building, tragically beautiful. Secondly, "Bad Dreams" encompasses a fascinating character in the African American female mental patient who frequently says mysterious and pseudo religious things and seems to be the only one who knows whats going on. Thirdly, the acting by all involved is really superior to what you find in most horror films. Rubin is especially good at emoting and I am mystified why I never heard of her before I rented this film. Lastly, I think most viewers miss an interesting touch in the film, at one point, Cynthia is sitting in the grass turned around in the exact same pose as the painting by Andrew Wyeth "Christina's World"! It was a really awesome touch that I think may go unappreciated by those not farmiliar with this painting. In short, "Bad Dreams" is a must see, with a great twist ending also. A must for any horror fan or suspense lover.
This movie is, indeed, a cut above the rest as it doesn't explain everything to the letter as other movies do. For me, that's what ruins the mystery and the chances of me watching it again. What drew me the most to this movie was the soundtrack. Nothing like hearing The Chambers Brothers "Time Has Come Today" (during the initial suicide scene and when Cynthia revisited the horror awake and alseep) as well as "I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night" by The Electric Prunes (played as the ambulance took Cynthia away from the scene at the very beginning of the movie). This movie is definitely worth watching many times.

Oh, man . . . no one would confuse this with a good movie, but you can laught at it and with it. The filmmakers were obviously going for cheese, and they hit it right on the money. Dean Cameron (with his eyebrows in a supporting role) plays a sensitive vampire who's cursed to fall in love with a girl once every century, only to have a peglegged pirate beat her to death with a hambone every time. Can he break the curse this time? Can he become the world's first rock 'n' roll 'n' rap vampire? So much to love here. The songs, first and foremost: elaborate production numbers of howlingly so-bad-they're-good 80's tunes and even some that were *meant* to be funny and are. Cameron's wise-cracking mirror reflection, who may be the ghost of Elvis. Cameron's bat transformation -- a two-foot tall, flatulent goblin. I could go on and on. If you're looking for Citizen Kane or Schindler's List, keep looking. But if you like Rocky Horror, Spinal Tap, and the like, snap this one up.
They evidently did not come out with a sound track for this movie, and that's a shame. If there is a sound track out there, I hope someone lets me know where to find it. I've looked all over the place, and have yet to locate it. Who cares if the movie's dopey? Watch it for the tunes!!!
Can Rockula break the never-ending lost-love loop and find true love? Turn the stereo up, get the popcorn ready, and start smiling. Uh-huh-huh.

They don't make silly comedies like these anymore and thats a damn crime. I love a great art film like anyone else but plot-lite silly films that you can watch just for a good laugh just aren't out there anymore. I honestly tell my friends that this is one of my all time favorite films and I am not kidding. Give it a watch - I can promise three things: 1) lewd and silly physical comedy, 2) goofball antics, and 3) gratuitous nudity in the classic 80s style. God bless Dean Cameron and all the wacky people that made Ski School 2!

The plot revolves around a friendship between 2 men and a woman. When one of the men (Eric Stoltz) marries the woman (Meg Tilly), the angst and complications begin. Although the course of the story seems foreseeable (not a lot of surprises), the film escapes being predictable by having believable characters that are like people many of us know or could know from our own lives. In addition, the structure is unusual....the different sections of this film were written by different writers, yet all parts do seem integrated with the whole. Add to this the fact that the scenes are seemingly artlessly put together, so that often there is almost a documentary effect....what you end up with is an experiment in film making that doesn't require you to have a film degree to appreciate.
I haven't seen the DVD yet. Does it have any special features ?
