Zack (Michael Ontkean) and Claire (Kate Jackson) are a young, attractive and successful married couple; he is a physician and she is a television producer. They have just bought a new home and talk about having a child. But Zack begins to question his sexual identity and to close himself off from his wife. Then he meets Bart (Harry Hamlin), a sexually adventurous gay man who forces Zack to come to terms with his sexual feelings. Although MAKING LOVE is nearly twenty years old, the only things dated about the movie are the clothing and hairstyles. There have certainly been other Hollywood movies that deal with homosexuality (PHILADELPHIA, IN AND OUT, etc.). But most of these movies seem oddly hesitant to address difficult issues or deflect them by using humor. By contrast, MAKING LOVE presents with complete honesty a man learning to accept that he is gay, along with all of the conflicted feelings and painful choices this involves. Barry Sandler's script is outstanding. It employs a device that today has become an annoying cliche: characters sharing their inner feelings by directly addressing the camera. But in this film, the device really works, thanks to honest writing and performances. All three lead actors are excellent, giving us portraits of believable, imperfect human beings who nonetheless try to do their best with the situation that confronts them. A special word of praise must go to Kate Jackson. Certainly Jackson's TV work (CHARLIE'S ANGELS, SCARECROW AND MRS. KING) never gave her the chance to play such an intelligent, fully-rounded character. Jackson is excellent and in a few scenes is so thoroughly convincing that she breaks your heart. Arthur Hiller's direction is understated and eloquent. And Leonard Rosenman's musical score is superb. His score helps us to recognize the movie for what it is: a tender and bittersweet love story. For example, early on there is a scene in which Zack has a painful meeting with a cancer patient and, distraught over his inability to help her, goes cruising for a sexual partner. Rosenman's musical score helps us to see that Zack's act is not cheap or sensational but instead is an attempt by a lonely, confused man to find emotional connection. A movie of exceptional quality, MAKING LOVE should be much better known. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for an intellegent, compassionate presentation of the many emotional issues surrounding coming to acceptance of homosexuality.
Kate Jackson, Michael Ontkean and Harry Hamlin turn in a powerhouse effort in this Authur Hiller film about a career successful married couple, Claire and Zack Elliot (Jackson and Ontkean) who must face the reality that their union is not all it seems. After eight years of marriage, Zack's repressed homosexuality begins to surface. Enter handsome writer Bart Mcguire (Hamlin), who innocently meets Zack in the ordinary circumstance of a doctor's visit. Bart has been around the gay scene for some time, and is quite happy in his world of one night stands and conquests....or is he? How all this unfolds is great viewing. "Making Love" has it's soap opera moments and is somewhat dated, but the performances and overall writing and direction overcome these slight flaws. Handsome Ontkean is dead on as the confused yet well intentioned Zack. Whatever spoken or written about this film hurting Ontkean's career is trivial, this remains his best work to date. Hamlin is almost distracting in a role that was obviously well researched complete with subtle mannerisms. Kate Jackson turns in one of her best yet tender performances in a film that remains a cornerstone in gay cinema.

The evil role Davis played in "Harvest Home" was as good as her performance on "What Every Happened to Baby Jane?" Everytime I travel to Maine I can picture the harvest home festival. Makes you a little afraid of those New Englanders and the secrets they may hold. If you liked Harvest Home you may also want to buy Dead and Buried with Jack Albertson and James Firorentino. Another New England chiller, alot like something Stephen King would write. (Reminds me of Monhegan Island, Maine "Spooky") Don't buy Harvest Home on tape demand a full DVD Version.
I really hope somebody out there in DVD-makerland pays attention and hears that there are many people out here waiting for this to come out (uncut, with the picture cleaned up and remastered) on DVD. And while you're at it, how about the TV mini-series of Stephen King's "The Shining", another exceptional TV effort that definitely merits DVD release.

She is offered and accepts a promotion when the plant's management tries to divert her, but a supervisory role doesn't appeal to her when her mother loses her hearing and she has to chastise her father for poor performance. Logically, inevitably she becomes more committed to fighting for a better life for herself and her loved ones and joins forces with a union organizer who came down from NYC. She ends up sacrificing all, including her self esteem, to give the workers more control over their working conditions. Chills ran down my spine during the scene where she held up the "union" sign and another where she rebuked her husband for being non-supportive of her union efforts. I am not a union supporter, but I know good drama, strong performances, and a logical and interesting plot when I see it, so I recommend this fine film to all. Hopefully they will give as much time and attention to dubbing and subtitling this movie into languages of third world countries because that's where this textile plant probably relocated a year after the events this film portrayed. A sad, sad outcome to an ideal. No matter what the outcome, Sally Field delivers one of the finest performances in film history so "Norma Rae" gets only my highest recommendations!

In B&N, Pottsylvania's despotic Fearless Leader (Christopher Neame) orders our two heroes to infiltrate America in order to track down a fugitive scientist, who's developed a microchip that can reverse time. Once in the U.S., Natasha is "discovered" by hair stylist Jose (Jose Eber), who makes Natasha a media star. Only Boris, troubled by his partner's loss of focus and dedication, keeps the assignment on track. There are a few decent sight gags, e.g. Boris and Natasha in fat suit disguises and John Travolta in a fleeting cameo. For me, however, the best feature of the film is long-legged Sally Kellerman, who manages to be sexy in a ditzy sort of way. But otherwise, the storyline is drivel. Even a 5-minute scene that includes John Candy as retired Pottsylvania super agent Kallishak, who now has a shoe-shine stand in the Big Apple, adds nothing. Only die-hard fans of the original small screen adventures may find this movie entertaining. Having said that, where are Dudley Do-Right and Snidely Whiplash when you need them? (Daniel Day-Lewis would make a great Whiplash!)

The technical production quality is not first-rate, as if this was done on a low budget with low-end equipment. But the sincerity of the production comes through and makes the film surprisingly watchable.

They looked the same as the second movie - I don't see what the difference was, but doesn't matter. I still love this movie. It wasn't a favorite, but it was still good.
Things I like the cystal Charle gives the boy glows when there in danger. Lenoard De Caprio looks interesting in this film. This porbably was his first movie to star in. Not as successfull as the other films he wasin but still pretty good. Just like in critter 1 ans 2 the krites apperance has been altered. It has some fun parts in it. There is this part is really fun when Josh Lenadord Dicapro goes with his father to evict the people living in the apartment. After he shuts of the power he hears the sound of a televesion. He goes to investigate. This part of the movie I think wassupposed to be a rip of off the part in Gremlins when the Gremlins are watching Snow white. The Krites are watching a thing one a batter powered t.v about how to pre pare chicken. It get real intense near the end especial when the apart catchs one fire. The fire is caused by one of the Krites that died by shallowing a flare. This is similiar to a gag that was in the first one where one of the Krites swallows a lit fire cracker. The little boy I adormal. At the end of the movie the dad and grows real cllose tohis shown and daughter. They apolize for they way they have treated each other. Pretty good movie. Here what they could have done tomkae it better. Gaving Charlie a larger rule, put more gore in it. Brought bradly brown back again have put ug in it. Ug you do not see again until the last one or credits of 3 if you choose to watch them. I will and alway will like critters. I own all four on VHS. I am planning of buying them on DVD so I can watch them more frequently. Crittes series is great but Vhs were out real quickly if you watch then alot. I will and always will like critters.

Tod has spent many years watching the teenage girl next door, Gina (Glynnis O'Connor). He is extremely attracted to her but whether she feels the same way about him is questionable. Eventually, Tod is able to go through a series of steps which allow him more and more freedom. He uses this new found freedom to both try and fit in with the other kids as best he can and also woo Gina. There are some touching moments between the two of them although at times it crosses over into being too cut and dry. I would've liked the filmmakers to have made the situation between them a bit more complex. Robert Reed and Diana Hyland, who play Tod's parents, are given less screen time than one might think. The real story here is about Tod's dreams of one day being "normal" and falling in love with Gina. His relationship with his parents is very secondary. Oddly, Hyland won an Emmy for her performance even though she didn't get a chance to exhibit any real emotion or acting skill. "The Boy In The Plastic Bubble" doesn't know if it wants to be more of a romance or a medical drama. It ends up doing both fairly well and is worth the buy at such a low price.
