2-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely HORRIBLE!!..but kinda fun
Having grown up in the 70's, I had my fill of Kroft Superstars and it was good clean freaked out fun. This special is SO bizzare and silly..words cannot even describe it. They pan to the audience several times and its the SAME footage over and over! The audience members look almost as strange as the characters on stage, witcheepoo is a fake! (I think), and Johnny Whitaker from Sigmund starts the whole thing off with a dreadful song about needing to have freinds. Then he tells the dumbest joke I have ever heard in my life. Weird and totally dumb, yet I must admit I think I may buy this video for kicks. P.S.-check out Anne B. Davis and Robert Reed sitting in the audience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Brady Kids
This hilarious piece of classic 70s pop culture is not to be missed. Obviously, the Brady Bunch Kids hadn't rehearsed as much as needed, but how can you get six kids, ranging from ages ten to 17, to successfully and smoothly pull off something like this? I doubt any of them were particularly enthusiastic about this. This is apparent during the run of their performance... they continuously throw each other humorous glances seeming to say, "What are we doing up here?" The microphones don't pick up all their voices, they girls keep trying to pull up their pants for some reason, but no one gets more into it than Bobby (Mike Lookinland). He plays piano with one of the band members, and encourages the audience to get into the spirit. They seem to get into the choreography though, and actually aren't bad at that part, especially Greg Brady (Barry Williams). Watch closely and you can see little Cindy Brady (Susan Olsen) mess up one of her lines, and if you watch even closer you can catch Peter Brady (Chris Knight) mess up a part of their dance number during "Proud Mary". And it's no hard task to see red-haired Johnny Whitaker's microphone cord get caught on the stand (Oh, what the 90s have bruoght us -- plastic surgery and wireless microphones! Oh, what would Britney do without either?) All this just improves the classic fun charm that the Bradys give us, and gives us something to think about the next time we see Peter fixing his bike on the show. All in all, it's something for all people from the latter-day generation to watch and have a good laugh!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Brady Bunch Kids are awsome!
If you like The Brady Bunch, you'll LOVE this preformance of The Brady Bunch Kids Live at the Hollywood Bowl. It's a great show, and you haven't really lived until you have seen them singing. Great for the whole family, and a must see for all you Brady fans out there ( like me.)

4-0 out of 5 stars Who's Your Friend When Things Get Rough?
Although this is NOT the H.R. Pufnstuf 'feature film' from which the Leonard Maltin review (above) is incorrectly taken, this IS a romp down memory lane. Jack Wild, and the cast of the Sid & Marty Kroft shot "H.R. Pufnstuf" trot around on stage at the Hollywood bowl in front of a live audience. Avid Pufnstuf fans will see why the cherubic young Jack Wild's popularity fell after his voice changed - he was much better in 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' as an adult. As added guests, the Brady Bunch kids sing and dance through some 'musical numbers' - "Proud Mary" is not to be missed. Also, the characters from "Lidsville" (another Krofft show), and Johnny Whitaker from "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters" make appearances. Look very carefully at the audience, and you can spot Ann B. Davis, and who is that man in drag sitting with Robert Reed?! This video (released by Rhino) is a hoot!

5-0 out of 5 stars How I fell in love with Shirley MacLaine
Considering all that has happened since, it becomes easy to forget just how great Martin and Lewis were in the early to mid fifties. This was the first of their films that I saw and, to me anyway, it remains the best and a showcase for just how much fun they were. An additional plus is a very young Shirley MacLaine, who even then displayed an incredible screen presence in what could have been a throwaway role. She outshines Dorothy Malone and set my five-year-old heart on fire. They don't make movies like this any more and that's a shame. Shirley, wherever you are, I've been waiting.

4-0 out of 5 stars My 8 year old's favorite rental!
This movie was a ton of fun. The classic scene "Bat Lady & Fat Lady" scene between Martin & Lewis made the picture. A very young (and quite attractive) Shirley MacLaine adds to the picture with a bit of wit.

When I showed this picture to my son he couldn't stop watching it. Whenever we go to the video store he asks to rent it. I figure that there are a lot of clean movies out there like this one that kids would love if only we adults would expose them to em. Of course for its time it shows quite a quantity of lovely ladies.

My wife absolutely died over the scene when Jerry tries to get his back fixed. This will definately be bought for my son's next birthday. I suggest you don't wait that long.

5-0 out of 5 stars Even if you don't like Martin and Lewis-
It is difficult not to like this brilliant Frank Tashlin film. He did cartoons in the 1940's, and he adds surreal cartoon gags here as he did in his other under-rated film THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT. Made when Washington was investigating pin up girls like Bettie Page and horror comic books, the subplot and plea in support of kids comics was very rare for the era.
I have often said that you don't have to like Martin and Lewis to like a Frank Tashlin movie. This is the film to show people who don't get the pair. Dean gets to sing entire songs, Lewis does a scene imagining a steak dinner that works on any age group, and you will not believe how hot the young Shirley MacLaine looks in a Bat Girl costume.
Now, if they could get a letterboxed dvd out........

3-0 out of 5 stars A Worthwhile Effort
Although the humor is a little childish and cartoonish at times, it was meant to be! In this Tashlin outing, Martin and Lewis team together again in a light and entertaining spoof of censorship and comic book culture. The Cold War plot thrown in at the end is timely, though out of place, in an otherwise exceptionally goofy live action cartoon.

5-0 out of 5 stars do u want to laugh?
Each time is the first time...the scene with Shearly and Jerry is so funny and each time seems to be the first! ...And Dean is so handsome! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Revisit "Dead Man's Point" thanks to the Krofft Superstars!
What an awesome nostalgic trip for those of us who grew up in the 1970s! Johnny Whitaker (famous for "Family Affair" and "Tom Sawyer") and Scott Kolden play kids Johnny and Scott living with their Aunt Zelda while their parents take what seems to be a never-ending vacation.

These kids have it made... they live right on the beach, have their own clubhouse and have a friendly sea monster as their companion!

The voices for the different sea monster characters (Sigmund, Burp, Slurp, Sweet Mama and Big Daddy) are absolutely hilarious.

The DVD version includes a sing-a-long of the show's theme song and a great and entertaining interview with the now all-grown-up Whitaker and Kolden.

I love these shows! This is a great series for kids... nothing harmful is taught and like all Krofft shows, the storylines teach morals in a non-threatening way. You see the boys obeying their aunt and giving her respect, you see them stick up for each other (teamwork) and their loyalty to their friend, Sigmund.

This was a very innocent show for a very innocent time in kid's tv... too bad there aren't more shows like this on tv for kids nowadays. ... Read more

Dick Van Dyke (Mary Poppins) narrates this made-for-TV special, which focuses on the high points in Walt Disney's life and career. Over 70 friends, relatives, and associates were interviewed. Critics, however, weren't given much of a chance to have their say, which prevents Walt from presenting a fully rounded picture. Fortunately, this two-hour story of the great man's rise--and rise--makes for compelling viewing anyway. It doesn't merely cover his work, but personal life, as well. Milestones, such as his marriage, are brought to life using footage from a copious home movie collection. Furthermore, a few Disney animators do mention some of the great man's more negative traits, such as his legendary toughness, but such criticisms are passed over quickly. Smaller viewers may find it boring, but Disney fans 10 and older are sure to be riveted by this fascinating man's life story. --Kathleen C. Fennessy ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A LONG OVER DUE FILM BIOGRAPHY OF WALT DISNEY
WALT: THE MAN BEHIND THE MYTH is a warm, entertaining, and fascinating look at both the public and private life of one of the greatest show-business men of the 20th Century....a man who is still influencing our world today. The never before released photos and film footage alone make this a "must" purchase. If the production has one fault, it may be that it leaves the viewer wanting more such glimpses into the life of Walt Disney. A great companion video would be THE HAND BEHIND THE MOUSE: THE UB IWERKS STORY.

5-0 out of 5 stars The touching and definitive story about Walt Disney
I am a Disney fan plain and simple. I grew up watching "The Wonderful World of Disney", going to Disneyland more than six times in my life and visiting Walt Disney World once. I buy Disney DVD's and other products from the Disney line. However, I knew a little about the man who created the "magic" and after viewing this outstanding DVD about the life of Walt Disney, I feel like I know him so much more.

This is an account about the life and thoughts of the man who created a world where people are more happier today because of the dreams shared by Walt Disney. The film begins with Walt's childhood in Missouri and California. There are family films that are shown for the first time with the permission of the Disney family that show the love and warmth not only of Walt, but of his family and friends.

The film also tells about his early workings in creating cartoon characters, working and paying his dues in the entertainment industry of the 1920's and finally with a bold stroke, creating his own studio where Walt could finally create much of the magic that we enjoy today. The film also tells about the work and creation that went into full length animated movies such as "Snow White", "Bambi", "Pinnochio", and other classic masterpieces. Also shown is the vision that led to the construction of Disneyland and Walt's final dream...Epcot Center.

The film also has moving interviews with intimate Disney family members such as Walt and Lillian's daughter Diane, grandson Walt Elias Disney Miller, grandaughters, grandnieces and grandnephews. Close family friends such as Art Linkletter, Dean Jones, Ray Bradberry, and the late Buddy Epsen are interviewed as well as early live Disney stars such as Dean Jones.

Each give a wonderful insight into Walt Disney and all still show loving devotion to him even 37 years after his death.

Walt Disney definitely made the world a better place to live him and we can thank him for giving us a magical place to escape to everyday by watching the films, going to the amusement parks and so much more, because of his magical immagination.

Every Disney fan will enjoy watching this DVD over and over again.

Very highly recommended!!

5-0 out of 5 stars DVD Review
I bought this DVD at Disneyland in the summer of 2003. At the time I was told by the sales clerk that the DVD was absolutely amazing. I didn't put much stock into what he said as he worked for Disney but when I got home and had the chance to watch it I was absolutely amazed at how good it was! It is a very well produced "inside" story on Walt's life and work. The DVD includes interviews with many people who worked with him as well as never released family videos. It is so good that I have watched it several times and come away feeling inspired each time. If you like Disneyland/Disneyworld then you will be more than pleased with this purchase (there are lots of goodies on it for the big Disney fan).

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing But Disney Propaganda!
This book is Disney Propaganda which was written to cover
up the truth which was exposed by Marc Eliot in his book:
"Walt Disney: Hollywood's Dark Prince"

5-0 out of 5 stars Walt will live forever.
I am a big Walt Disney fan. I can't get enough of the behind the scenes and personal stuff about him. This video is just the ticket. This film is so well made and is so well put together. Just as good if not better than the wonderful "Frank and Ollie". Finally after all these years we get a good in depth look at the man himself. I was overcome with feelings of warmth and comfort seeing Walt in the home movies. Watching his family and friends speak about him I could almost hear that cough coming down the hall myself. I am lucky enough to own a copy of this on DVD as well and it has very nice extras. Hard to find but worth it. Do get a copy of the VHS before it goes away. Don't miss out on this treasure. ... Early '70s kiddie television viewers who now have children of their own will wax nostalgic as they see Barney-precursors Freddie the Frog, Henrietta Hippo, and Charlie the Owl prance and sing again thanks to the magic of video. Instead of the purple dinosaur's kids, this oversized trio is joined by mini-skirted, go-go-booted Emmy Jo and sweater-vested, guitar-playing Doug. John Wayne references aside, the messages of these two half-hour programs are timeless: fantasies help you work out real-life problems and everyone has the capacity to imagine, if only they try. Post-feminist moms may wince at Emmy Jo being referred to as Doug's "helper" in the title song, and kids raised in politically correct times may wonder at Freddie being labeled "not so smart." But modern-day children can take the program's message to heart and use their imaginations to fantasize about life a long time ago in a decade far, far away.... --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

Rumor has it that Sid and Marty Krofft are developing a new movie based on their bizarre life-size puppet show, H.R. Pufnstuf. But will it hold up to their first feature? Looking more like an ambitious TV episode than a feature film, the endearingly low-tech Pufnstuf hit the big screen in 1970 with the gee-whiz spirit of a community theater musical. The whole cast is here: Jack Wild's lisping hero, who sings and dances with his magic talking flute; Billie Hayes' cackling Witchiepoo; the drawling dragon Pufnstuf; and the usual collection of talking trees, beavers, owls, mushrooms, and other frantic live-action cartoon characters. Martha Raye guest stars as Boss Witch and "Mama" Cass Elliot (as Witchiepoo's archrival in the "Witch of the Year" contest) sings "different is hard, different is lonely." The songs are otherwise eminently forgettable, and the story is the usual Saturday morning silliness of bumbling bad guys and resourceful heroes in slapstick square-offs--you can almosthear the laugh track. Fans of the show will appreciate its surreal weirdness (Witchiepoo as a go-go dance instructor?), but what can anyone make of the image of Pufnstuf spinning on a spit over a barbeque? It's no Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory but Billie Hayes powers the picture with her madcap energy and comic flair. And even gets her own song, "We Can Zap the World." Zap away, Witchiepoo. --Sean Axmaker ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars CASS ELLIOT MAKES THIS MOVIE!
THIS MOVIE IS GREAT. SORT OF LIKE THE MUPPETS ON ACID. WHAT TRULY MAKES THIS A GREAT MOVIE IS THE LATE CASS ELLIOT. HER ROLE AS WITCH HAZEL IS JUST TOO MUCH! YOU CAN OBVIOUSLY SEE/FEEL THAT ALL OF THE ACTORS' ENJOYED THEMSELVES MAKING THIS PICTURE. IT IS ALSO OF GREAT SENTIMENTAL VALUE FOR ANYONE WHO REMEMBERS WHEN THIS MOVIE FIRST CAME OUT (THIS MOVIE WAS MADE IN 1970, AND IT WAS ONLY JUST RECENTLY RELEASED ON VHS). AND NOT ONLY THAT, BUT IT FEATURES WHAT, BASICALLY, IS THE FIRST MUSIC VIDEO TO BE MADE WHEN CASS ELLIOT PERFORMS THE SONG 'DIFFERENT'. THIS PICTURE IS GREAT FOR KIDS, AS WELL AS ADULTS WHO WOULD LIKE TO FEEL THE NOSTALGIA OF THEIR LONG-AGO CHILDHOOD. DON'T MISS THIS!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cass Elliot fan
I loved Pufnstuf as a child. I saw this movie in the theater. When I realized that Mama Cass was in it, it was my life-long ambition to get this movie! I tried unsuccessfully to convince Blockbuster video that this movie existed! Finally, when I visited [the web] I thought I'd try to see if it was here. You can't imagine my amazement! The movie is a MUST SEE for children (or big kids like me!). No bad language, and very colorful...great songs.... My 5-year old sings along with it!Sid and Marty Krofft did us a favor and satisfied the child in all of us with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars childhood memories
after watching this film as a child of 5 years old i remember feeling very scared of whitcheepoo and how fantastic jack wild was .the songs were unforgetable so much infact that i let my own children watch the film ,they loved it . its very hard to get it in this country ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Zap the World!
When you look past the best-we-could-do budget of this gem, you see the genius of it all, the heart, the soul, the depth. The music is wonderful!I personally have had the original Lp in fairly heavy rotation since I was a very small child, and it helped me get through a lot of weird times in my life.'Zap the World' is inspirational music to me.Look at the excellent syncopation on 'If I could', these were really something of quality!Look at the costumes, handmade and copied by many many many, INCLUDING MCDONALDS,who Sid and Marty sucessfully sued in the 70's.Watch this with an open mind and your eyes untinged by the cynical slickness of our current soulless societal paradigm, if nothing else, to get away from the perversity of the current jaded fashionistas. Different is heartache, different is pain, but I'd rather be different than be the same!

4-0 out of 5 stars Even kids nowadays can get into this movie!
I remember watching Pufnstuf along with the rest of Sid and Marty Kroffts productions growing up. They were great. My brother-in-law made us a copy of some of the shows back when Nickolodean was running a Sid and Marty Krofft marathon. My three and five year olds girls were hooked. They are now five and seven and still enjoy. It is something to watch as a family. And while it might not be as graphically well-done as newer shows and video games, it still has a bit of fascination to it no matter what age you are. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta love H.R. Pufnstuf!
My husband used to watch these shows when he was a kid...I had never seen them. He has gotten my children hooked on them and between you and me I love them. This movie that we have purchased my kids love it, there is singing and dancing everytime my kids turn it on they begin to do the "moon walk". It is a very entertaining movie for the kids no matter which volume you buy. My favorite character has to be Witchie Poo, nothing ever goes right for her. If you have children or are young at heart than the Pufnstuf movies are for you, highly recommended. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Still fun after all these years
I watched Pufnstuff when I was young and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now my 4 and 5 year old children love it. The flat set design and people in costumes approach may not appeal to all kids, especially those used to modern computer animation.
