4-0 out of 5 stars It's One Worth Watching
The script is sometimes funny because of the conflict between two brothers from different worlds. They are "in love" with the wrong woman most of the time. Cameron Diaz is beautiful but sometimes you feel that she flashes that smile to cover her lack of acting skills. Jennifer Aniston is just the opposite: she is pretty but she concentrates her energy on her acting. The picture has more drama than some seem to pick up on. This is not just a funny film. It says alot about our family and social values today. Burns does a good job on this and his acting and Aniston's make it worthwhile to see.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Film
I saw this movie before I saw Brother's McMullen and instantly fell in love with it. Its simply a great film from start to finish. Wonderfully written. Ed Burns really knows how to write for a variety of characters. A great movie that can be viewed on different levels. Very funny at times. Some of the dialouge is just hilarious (see any scene w/ John Mahoney). Also a very serious movie about relationships. Ed Burns doesn't let us down in this one. Great cast of characters as well with an excellent soundtrack by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, Great acting
This movie, like it's predecessor, is about real life, real people, and the twists and turns life plays on all of us. Its funny, thought provoking, and shows how a family really works, with all the pimples and grime. This is the second movie in the series (with the Bro. McMullen being the first) and I found this to be just as entertaining and a nice segue from the previous movie. In fact, 'She's the One' seems slightly more upbeat, more colorful, and in a way, jumps out at you more than 'The Bros.' did. Fantastic acting too. The ladies were good, but the main characters, Ed Burns and Mike McGlone were multi-dimentional, yet subtle at the same time. The father was perfect for the role. If you like real stories and like to have a grin on your face every 10 minutes, you will enjoy this film. If you are looking for an action film with special effects and bombs, flying debree, etc. this will not float your boat.

Francis (Mike McGlone) and Mickey (Edward Burns) are brothers with different views on life and happiness. These views have been heavily influenced by their father (John Mahoney) through the years, with his, "you come first" attitude.

Mr. Fitzpatrick lives near the ocean and owns a boat, wherein the father and brothers visit and go fishing often.

Mickey is an down to earth and likable guy without much ambition who drives a cab. Brother Francis is not so likable. He is a successful stockbroker whose standing joke is that his brother is the only English speaking cab driver in New York.

Francis is pretentious and conniving, the opposite of Mickey, who is easy going and modest. That they were raised by the same parents seems to be a fluke.

Francis also is a cheating husband. He is married to and bored with Renee (Jennifer Aniston), who cannot figure out why Francis never wants to have sex anymore. Francis, nice guy that he is does not want to cheat on his mistress with his wife.

However, the same can't be said for his mistress, Heather (Cameron Diaz) who doesn't even try to hide the fact from Francis that she is sleeping around. The naughty Heather, for the record, was once engaged to Mickey, until he caught her naked asleep with another man in their apartment.

Meanwhile our happy go lucky cab driver, Mickey, surprises everyone when he marries one of his fares, a mere twentyfour hours after meeting her. Her name is Hope (Maxine Bahns) and Mickey and Hope have every intention of making their marriage work, despite what everyone, especially Francis thinks.

And so the stage is set for some clever if not hilarious situations.

This is a comedy, not a rip snortin funny movie but it does have it's clever humorous moments and it's sort of like a fable too, with a lesson to be learned for those paying attention.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good buy
The story is just a little boring, I found myself not being very attentive at times. It's not very original and I wouldn't have bought it if there wasn't Cameron Diaz. It's a pity she doesn't appear more often. The end is a bit of a surprise. Overall this was quite a good buy, I liked it. ... Read more

This is a non sense and horrible movie, please save your money and avoid it.

2-0 out of 5 stars A Mediocre Low Budget Film
With a name like "Dangerous Curves" you'd think that this would be some type of soft-porn, skinamax movie. Despite what it's title suggests, this movie shows no t&a, just some male gentalia in a jar to give it a "not-for-rent-to-under-18" status. With a bigger budget this movie might have been decent, but the terrible special effects and the somewhat baffling plot lend it to mediocre status. The plot tries to add a lesbian element to allure adolescent teenagers, but I'm sure that they will be entirely disappointed with the film. There is not many good things you can say about this film. The "lawyer who gets too involved with a client" theme is not solidly established. As the plot revolves around this theme, the overall performance is weak, and character development is poor. As bad as this film is, it does keep you watching to wait for when it is going to get better. By far not the worse movie I've seen. I give it a C overall. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Just "Cutaway" and enjoy it!
I will admit that the first time I viewed this film I did not like it. As an active skydiver I could point out many flaws. The plot is quite unrealistic and for some, the professional sport of skydiving is once again not put in a good light. But once I stepped back, took off the serious glasses and put on the fun pair I actually enjoyed it. US Customs Agent Vic Cooper (Stephen Baldwin) finds himself in the world of competition skydiving while in pursuit of narcotraffickers in the Miami area. In order to enjoy the film, do not watch it for the following reasons:
1. An accurate depiction of US Customs counter-narcotics procedures.
2. An accurate portrayal of USPA group member drop zones and operational procedures.
3. An accurate portrayal of the attitude of the US Army Golden Knights (Parachute Team). Referring to the stereotypical arrogance and machismo.
4. That Stephen Baldwin "can really" win in a fight against Dennis Rodman (Turbo).
Do watch it for the following reasons:

1. The cinematography of the jump scenes is well done.
2. The music score is good and with the jump scenes add to the excitement.
3. An overall "cops and robbers" how did they do it plot.
So just "cutaway" with the serious critique. Its not gonna win best picture. Just have fun with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Adrenaline Movie!!
If you like this genre, "Cutaway" is a fun action movie with incredible skydiving stunts. I read that Tom Berenger, Maxine Bahns, and Stephen Baldwin did alot of their own stunts which is very cool. It's an entertaining story with a good cast.

This is not the greatest movie ever made, but it kept me watching. I definitely want to see it again. I'm surprised it was not in the theatres because I think it would have done well. I really love Maxine Bahns, it was cool to see her in an action movie.

If you are reading this Maxine, will you marry me?

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this movie for what it is
Let's be honest, nobody's winning an Oscar for this one. But take this movie for what it's worth. The skydiving shots are awesome, there's some good humor (some intentional, some as a direct result of awful acting and screenwriting), and all in all, it's a fun way to blow an hour and a half.

As a rookie in the skydiving world, it's entertaining to see Baldwin's learning curve. Cutaway may seem stupid and out of touch to any "wuffos," but skydivers can be assured find it a decent, although probably still kind of stupid, representation of the rush of jumping.

1-0 out of 5 stars Try Again!!!
If I could give this movie zero stars, I would. There is no point and Balwin is terrible. His idea of being tough by talking soft and deep is worthless. Dennis should take the marbles out of his mouth next time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Guy Manos should die
Worst movie ive seen in a while. About as bad as Demolition Man, where there were gay lines like: Black Guy: "I'm a blast from the past!" Stallone: "You should have stayed there!"
Rodman should get an Oscar for his part.(sarcastic) He did nothing but try to act tough by staring at Baldwin.
I only gave it a star cause I was interested in the skydiving info. The shots were pretty good.
I about turned off when there was the part:
Girl: "What's in the bag?"
Baldwin: "My life. I'm cutting away." ... Read more

Edward Burns's debut film as an actor-director makes a virtue of its limited budget in the same way John Sayles's The Return of the Secaucus 7 did in 1980. Stuck with limited technical means, Burns wisely puts his energies into a sophisticated story, knowing an audience couldn't care less about lighting problems if they're caught up in a terrific, character-driven movie with good actors. The tale concerns three adult brothers (Burns, Jack Mulcahy, Mike McGlone) whose complications in love and problems with commitment are rooted in their common experiences in a violent, loveless family. Burns has a hang- loose style that keeps the film from getting drunk on intense drama. He sets up the emotional backdrop and lets the characters' lives speak for themselves. Moreover, this is a filmmaker who enjoys life too much to spread any more misery; Burns delights as much in the things that aren't necessarily good for people--illicit lovers, castration anxiety, too much time with one's family, too much beer--as those things that are.The results are frequently very funny. --Tom Keogh ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Candid and Entertaining
For anyone who grew up in an Irish or Italian home, and had more than one brother, this film hits home. Burns paints an accurate picture of three headstrong men who deal with the often funny, sometimes frustrating psychotic quirks that come with having a real SOB for a father.

Although this film has its slow moments, and its characters sometimes come off as one-dimensional, it's excusable since it was Burns' first effort. The three brothers are likable and transparently decent. And the plot deals honestly with the issue of relationships -- on the new, mid-point, and latter levels -- from a man's perspective, which is a refreshing change from the gross feminization that deluges the American male in cineams these days. (Cameron Crowe, please take note)

Those who are interested in screenwriting will enjoy how Burns explores and develops his protagonists.

So, on some Friday night, find you favorite rump-sprung chair, pop open a beer, and enjoy the tale of the Brothers McMullen.

4-0 out of 5 stars Irish Potatoes...
THE BROTHER'S McMULLEN tells the story of three brothers from Long Island New York, who try to come to grips with life, their love life, and what it means to be a family. After their no good excuse for a father dies, their mother decides to leave them, so that she can be with the man she really loves. The oldest brother, Jack (Jack Mulcahy) is married, but is tempted by another woman. Patrick (Mike McGlone) is engaged to be married, but is having second thoughts about taking the plunge. Lastly, Barry (Edward Burns), is fearing he may actually be falling in love Directed by first-timer and former Entertainnent Tonight staffer, Ed Burns, this low budget comedy/drama is very good The film is another example of, what I like to call, "filmmaking on the fly" That's when you don't have a lot of money or time and limited resources yet, somehow, you manage to get the movie done. As a film school graduate, who has made a few small projects, I know a little about what Burns must have gone through, when making this film. He must have done something right though, because not only is the movie fairly "real"in its portrayals, but it won best picture honors at Sundance when it premiered there in 1995.You don't have to be an Irish-Catholic to like the film. It's themes are universal. The script also by Burns, has some funny moments, without being over the top or silly. Shot for "shoestrings and couple of pieces of lint", BROTHERS finds some way to entertain. It's a shame that almost every movie that Burns has made since 1995, plays like a carbon copy of this one. This one is the real thing though and comes recommended

The DVD commentary track from Burns gives a good idea about what was like for him as a first time director Anyone who has made, or wants to make a low budget first film, should listen to this commentary, before or after you do it. The only other "extra" on the disc are a few theatrical trailers **** stars

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing redeeming whatsoever...
There is absolutely no redeeming quality to any of the characters. Zilch. And Burns' relationship to his little hottie he finds is about as believable in real life as an episode of Baywatch; and the dialogue between Burns and his little hottie is as stiff as a board. That about sums it up.

2-0 out of 5 stars I've seen worse...
A good movie is one that takes two hours of your time and uses it to teach and inspire you. A decent movie will entertain and amuse. But a bad movie will cause you to check your watch every ten minutes and wonder, how much more of my life will you steal? The Brothers McMullen made me cry when I realized I had only gotten through a third of it. I understand that this movie was made on a low budget and so we can excuse the fact that the characters wear the same shirt in scene 12 that they wore in scene 6, but this film is guilty of being deficient in three key areas: acting, script, and plot. I realize that they didn't have a lot to work with, but I was convinced that at least a few of the actors were reading cue cards throughout the entire movie. This film's only saving grace was the fact that I got it for free at the the video place with my rent ten, get one free card. I can sum up the themes of this movie real quick: don't get married because commitment is scary, move to California if things get too rough, Catholicism is crazy, and finally, beer is your best friend. Don't make the same mistake that I and Mrs. McMullen made. Keep away from The Brothers!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasant.
This is a pleasant film about problems concerning love. There are three brothers who run into difficulties that they have to solve. My favourite is the second oldest brother. Barry has seen how his mother had to struggle for years with a man that she did not love. After Barry's father is dead, Barry's mother is finally able to marry the man she has always loved.
Barry's reaction to his mother's fate and also to his own relationship with his father, makes Barry afraid to form a steady relationship with the woman of his dreams.

This film touches important issues like love, committment and religion. There were many funny scenes in this film too, so it was good to sit down and watch it. ... Read more

It's a pity she doesn't appear more often. The end is a bit of a surprise. Overall this was quite a good buy, I liked it. ... Read more

There were many funny scenes in this film too, so it was good to sit down and watch it. ... Read more
