Get it? No? Me neither. Oh, and there's a deadly nano-thingie making the rounds. That has something to do with the plot, too. Uh, let's just skip the plot. This is actually an enjoyable guns'n'fights movie. Liu does the super-spy-babe thing very well, and with less facial expression than Keanu Reeves. Come to think of it, the bad guy doesn't have much in the way of facial expressions either, mostly a big evil grin seemingly held in place with botox and superglue. Lots of things blow up, and blow up in the bad guys' faces. That part was a bit puzzling, though: after the explosions, everyone just gets up and plays again. If you want lots of gunfire and running around, it's a pretty good movie. Still, I was glad that I had a book in hand while watching it.
I will agree that the film's plot exists only to perpetutate the action, which consists of motorcycle chases, blazin' gun wars, and several great martial arts battles, which include the opening sequence, in which the Chinese "good" assasin Sever (Lucy Liu) "kidnaps" her ex-employer's son, a sequence during which Sever beats the bejesus out of Agent Jeremiah Ecks (Antonio Banderas), whose searching for information on his "deceased" wife, and the final fight, in which Sever takes on Ross, whose after a new "invention" she has hidden, and who is played by none other than the great Ray Park! Notice how many quotation marks I used there? That could explain some of the film's unpopulartiy. By the halfway point, BALLISTIC:ECKS VS SEVER has had so many plot twists, it makes THE SIXTH SENSE's one big big plot twist look silly (well, okay, let's not go nuts here, but you get the idea.) I am not an especially big fan of Antonio Banderas, but he comes across as a good male lead. It was really Lucy Liu that drew me to this film. Trust me, she is the only one of CHARLIE'S ANGELS who is a REAL martial artist, and she gets her chance to prove it this time around, with none of the over-the-top, pushing-the-envelope type of wire-fu (I'm looking at you, FULL THROTTLE) Basically, BALLISTIC:ECKS VS SEVER is not half as bad as it is made out to be. Anyone looking for some good action should check it out, and you'll love to see Lucy Liu throwin' some real nice high kicks and just looking like a beautiful ANGEL. (If your'e still not impressed with Lucy, be sure to check out KILL BILL VOL. 1, when she gets to be the villianess.)
The "plot" is right out of a late night action flick you'd see on cable TV back in the 80s. There's some vague reference to super technology, but it's all mired in heaps of pitiful plot twists. People are mistaken for dead, their children are taken away from them, identities are changed... A story this implausible should at least be FUN so that the viewer can overlook the faults. Another Liu movie, the first Charlie's Angels, at least understands this. Liu does have some good moves as Sever, though, and Banderas mumbles his way through depression well enough. There are also some decent musical choices. Not great, maybe not even good, but like I said... decent. It's enough to keep me from giving it a single star. ... Read more

Director Roger Spottiswoode ("Air America", "Tomorrow Never Dies") strikes a good balance between drama and action and paces the film well. Arnold fans might find the action sequences a bit tame by comparison to some of his other films, but there is plenty to keep the average action junkie happy. The cast is generally solid. Arnold is the same old Arnold, flexing his biceps and constantly flashing his well-spaced front teeth charmingly between action sequences. His acting in this film is better than usual, giving his character both strength and vulnerability with a hint of tongue in cheek humor thrown in. Michael Rapaport provides most of the comic relief in his bits with the virtual girlfriend. Tony Goldwyn is hatefully nefarious as the manipulative magnate who runs a rogue cloning factory. Robert Duvall is excellent, as always, as the scientist with a conscience. Overall, this is an entertaining film with an interesting premise. I rated it a 7/10. The area of cloning is fertile ground on which to build a more serious story, but it serves as a good backdrop for this basic good v. evil action film.
I am sorry to say that I was one of the many who missed this film in theaters. I bought it as soon as it came out on DVD and was not disapointed. As with all Arnie movies the action scenes and special effects are excellent. Also all of the sets were awesome, had plenty of eye candy and cool gadgets. However it was two of the co-stars Robert Duvall and Tony Goldwyn whose performances stole the show. The DVD transfer is excellent and the picture and sound are top notch. There is an average amount of options like trailers (Final Fantasy, Hollow Man, Gattaca and The 6th Day), Talent Files and a RePet infomercial. But the DVD does not contain the 10 minute making of featurette listed above. All in all this movie a solid purchase for any sci-fi, action or Arnie collection.
Like "I Robot", the movie has a great amount of twists and turns, and like "Total Recall", Arnold wonders who he is (6th day- Am I a clone? Total Recall - is this real, or just part of the Recall program?) The movie is also fairly family friendly (save for a few violent but bloodless/suggestive scenes) and is PG-13, an absolute rarity for an Arnold action movie, especially considering the graphic and gratuitous violence of "Total Recall". Arnold also plays an average joe, not a killing maching like in "Commando", which is refreshing. Having said all that, this is a great rental movie for average viewers, and if you liked "I Robot" or "Total Recall" (or love Ah-nuld, hey, who doesn't? :-) then this is well worth the price of admission.
The characters are nice. Arnold is really cool and is a great guy. You will probably like the cast. The badguy does a good job. He is evil. Arnold is pretty cool. The action does a fair job of being fast-paced. I enjoyed it. Enjoyable. Thats how I would describe this movie. Very Enjoyable. ... Read more

This is a very amateurishly written and put-together little mishmash. The story is: Good guy cop ("Steele" --just the name gives you some idea of how much thought went into this) in a new, tough division discovers all his new workmates are corrupt. Does he report them to internal affairs? Does he take the money and become one of the gang? Or does he think about it for just long enough to fill out a movie? (choose #3...which includes a large number of hasty, moronic talks with his dad, Charles Durning, a retired cop who really shouldn't wear trousers with pleats). Dennis Hopper as Captain of the division puts on a worried/angry expression and leaves it there. Michael Madsen who plays leader of the baddies is so relaxed--no matter what the scene may call for--that he seems to be relieved that he's paying off his credit card bill, or whatever bizarre reason he had to appear in a terrible film like this. I think the filmmakers were trying for something like "The Choirboys" that had a good amount of comedy and camaraderie to lighten its drama and violence. Here, though, there's no comedy, the camaraderie is false, the drama is silly, the violence is gratuitous, the characters are laughably simplistically drawn, the plot is old and overused--and with nothing new brought to it.
