My problem w/ films like this, and I know there are those of you like me, is this: In horror, in Supernatural horror, the supernatural has to be malevolent and it has to be the threat. If an average human is a greater threat to the protagonist than the ghost--which seems to be the common norm of most modern horror/thrillers (Below, 6th Sense, What Lies Beneath, The Others, 28 Days Later, this)--then it does nothing for me. It's not scary. A ghost trying to warn you or avenge its death isn't scary. Sure, the film may manipulate some jumps out of you w/ quick shots of the practically harmless ghost, but after you've experience the thrills, what remains? Once you know the secret of "The Others", what could possibly be scary about the movie after a second viewing? The Exorcist is still scary, because that movie is about an evil presence out to harm you. The Ring gave me some uneasy nights, I admit, because the threat was evil. The Blair Witch Project, the same thing. There's nothing scary about the ghosts in this, in The Others, in the 6th Sense. So, if you really enjoyed movies w/ ghosts who are only harmful in their pop-up-out-of-no-where powers, and human conspiracies about failed coverups scare you more, then you'd like this. If, however, it's the vile nature of the beast that keeps you up at night, then you'd feel you had wasted money on this picture.
There's not much to say, other than: If you want a good, rare movie pick this. I warn you however that I'm not promising your liking it. Although with the right mindset, anyone can enjoy this film. Just remember: "Don't be afraid." ... Read more

Filmed inside Chicago's Field Museum, the movie centers around a horrific brain-feeding beast and its curious link to a missing paleontologist who disappeared while researching a native tribe in Brazil. This monster, designed by special effects master Stan Winston, is unlike anything you're likely to see ever again. As in most other movies like this, you don't get to glimpse it right away. Its presence is more or less represented by an unsettling wheeze that will make you wonder what on earth could be making such a sound. I won't reveal anymore, other than to say it doesn't merely chase its victims down dark and murky underground tunnels--IT GALLOPS AFTER THEM! Forget what's been said about how overly dark this film was or how much of a letdown it was from the book. If, like me, you are any kind of horror fan who enjoys in-your-face monster movies, you owe it to yourself to buy this and watch it right now! Watch for an amusing cameo by Audra Lindley, better known as "Mrs. Roper" from "Three's Company."

The plot features a 13 old kid whose father is murdered. Warshawski reluctantly allows the girl to accompany her on the investigation, but be rest assured that the young actress playing the daughter wins over both you and Warshwaski without resorting to being cutesy or phony. Readers of the detective series will spot most of the recurring characters in the books, most notably Lottie and Murray. There is the disappointing exception of Mr. Contreras, whose paternal advice and counsel is handled instead by Charles Durning's police investigator character. I liked the movie and highly recommend it, mostly for Turner's shining screen presence. She may not be the most obvious choice for portraying V.I., but she keeps you enthralled with her great sense of humor and tough woman tenacity. I would have loved to see this movie turned into a series. After the movie ended, I wanted to see more! The video quality is very good and was taken from an outstanding print, so you get your money's worth with the DVD version.
Especially the nutcracker scene (which, if you've seen the film, doesn't need describing). ... Read more

But in this film, they play 2 characters a piece- Cheech as himself and Mr. Slyman and Chong as himself and Prince Habib. Depending on how much you like the duo's characters depends on if you like the movie, but if you find them funny, as I did, then you have the key. Especially since the unintended jokes by the two arabs are hilarious (i have hairpiece on my head/you have herpes on your head?). Anyway, the plot deals with the two guys (themselves) on a mission across America from Chicago to Las Vegas to deliver a car which gets dismantled along the way. Funny all the way from the beggining Chuck Berry rant to the porno with C & C, with many things to look for along the way. Definately worth while.
I do not like this one. It's boring. It doesn't have the same feel as the others. Instead of seeming like funny dirty pot smoking hippies, they're kinda wretched. Like guys you'd meet in a bus station late at night that might follow you into the bathroom. Blows or Sucks, take your pick.

Ernie Souchak (John Belushi) is a Chicago reporter on assignment in the Rocky Mountains whose subject is environmentalist/bald eagle protector, Nell Porter (Blair Brown). Overweight and out of shape, he tumbles and stumbles through hikes and climbs with his agile counterpart learning about the 'other world' that exists outside the hussle and bustle of city-life. Initially turned off by the brazen Souchak, Porter slowly finds him midly attractive but always keeping her distance. Without giving the entire story away, they wind up crossing paths again, this time in Souchak's town of Chicago. And in a fresh take, the movie doesn't end in typical Hollywood fashion. Afficionados of romantic comedies will absolutely love this film. I, for one, developed a huge adolescent crush on the naturally beautiful and charming, Blair Brown. There are definitely some tear-jerker scenes and I'm not afraid to admit they get me everytime. Probably the fact that for a change, you saw John Belushi portraying an everyday charming guy everyone can relate to. Even the still photos of John and Blair together on set, smiling and throwing snowballs at each other on the closing credits is enough to make a tear well up, knowing this was one of Belushi's final movies. Highly, highly recommended!!
