2-0 out of 5 stars Bad Script Sinks Sexy Thriller
This just-about-average erotic thriller is about as thrilling as having a hammer dropped on your head. Is the movie about: A) the problems of fidelity in the lives of an American couple? B)The pitfalls of gambling? C) The decadence of the wealthy? or D) lotsa wild, yet soft-X, sex?

I couldn't tell. All I was sure of was that the movie was a bare-bones rip-off of "Indecent Proposal", with a pointless mob subplot to prop up the unraveling story. Granted, Tane McClure and Gabriella Hall are hotties, and the sex scenes do have some steam, so the movie isn't a total disaster, but ultimately, there's just not much to recommend here.

3-0 out of 5 stars DRAGGIN THE DRAGON
CURSE OF THE KOMODO is not one of the worst movies I've seen, in fact it's a lot better than some of my colleagues avow. However, the problem is the script; it takes too much time with dialogue when we should have more komodo action. Tim Abell, usually fun to watch, underplays his role so much he comes across as bored. William Langlois as the responsible scientist isn't gung ho enough; Melissa Brasselle and Gail Harris are almost interchangeable and don't seem as frightened as they should be; Jack Logan looks great in his muscle shirt, but he needs to work on his acting abilities. It's derivative and incoherent, but the special effects are actually pretty good 95% of the time. I found it entertaining, worth a rental at least.

1-0 out of 5 stars Extremely dumb movie with some Russ Meyer style twists.
I'll only hype up the few fine points in this one. Russ Meyer style woman, decent CGI Komodo Dragons.
OK I will also include what this movie lacks. A good screenplay. "Curse of the Komodo" should be called "Curse of the Dodo," as in Dodo bird because this film is dumb and completly lacks everything that makes a good movie, except for the Russ Meyer type of ladies. O ya there is a blatant nude scene just because there can be. The nude scene is the pretty long and enjoyable to watch. Beware, watch this only for laughs and please don't expect much of anything.

1-0 out of 5 stars Really Dumb Scientists -- Even Dumber Movie
There is an island where scientists are running studies and tests in the hope of increasing the world's food supply. What makes the scientists dumb? 1) They are doing the experiments for the Department of Defense. 2) To reach their goals they are creating giant Komodo dragons (one of nature's greatest consumers). 3) A military test is run on the island and they are defeated by the dragons and the scientists say the experiment is not ready for that stage (how does this increase food supplies?).

The general in charge has to make some tough decisions regarding the project. The scientists in charge return to the island (why weren't they there to begin with?). To complicate things, some civilians in the form of casino robbers arrive on the island. They robbed an unusual casino, one that was thriving but had a parking lot completely empty except for their getaway car.

The Komodos are in charge of the island, there is no fuel for the electric fence (really just a series of sticks with lights on top) and the scientist's daughter is also his niece (small glitch in the script there). The trick is to get off the island without being eaten, being infected by the Komodo's saliva, or getting blown up by the military.

One thing that I will say in favor of the movie and that is the ending was better than I expected. The real ending that is and not the closing teaser. This one is really only for film gourmands or possibly at a party.

1-0 out of 5 stars This movie stinks!
Why? Every "plot" element is stolen from other movies, the actors/actresses can't act (depend on their physical charms, instead), the writing is horribly predictable, the special effects are laughable (and that's kind), and the air strike at the end has different aircraft every few seconds thanks to the use of stock footage.
Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE bad movies and giant monster
movies like "Alligator" or "Lake Placid," but this should just be flushed down the bowl, it's so bad.
If you buy this creation, you have only yourself to blame now.

1-0 out of 5 stars More than just a waste of time
This movie is not about a giant lizard. It's about how endless the world's supply of bullets is.

When we are first introduced to the giant komodo, two characters start to shoot at it. Then a third character arrives and joins in. Eventually they get in a truck and drive away, shooting at the komodo as it pursues them. The komodo gets bored and leaves. That night the komodo attacks them and they shoot it. The komodo eats one and leaves. When the characters leave their fortress to get to a helicopter they get attacked by the komodo. They shoot at it. The komodo eats one, kills another, and leaves. Then, when they reach the chopper, the komodo attacks. Guess what they do?

ok...

LISTEN MOVIE PEOPLE! You have been shooting nonstop at this thing for the past hour and a half, and it doesn't even seem to mind! So when you start shooting at it now, I sincerely doubt it is going to do ANY THING! This movie was boring not because of plot or storyline, but because most of it is just people standing around shooting at a CG monster. Yay!

By the way, what is the deal with bad movies and actresses with strange accents? Is that some thing they teach at film school or is it just an annoying trend in films? One character in this movie goes from having an Australian accent to an American one to a Dutch one and then back to being Australian. One female character doesn't have a weird accent persay, but she looks like Hugo Weaving reliving his role from "Priscella, Queen of the Desert." Oh yeah, and why were all the women blonde?

But I digress, this movie is just one big waste of bullets. Heck, they even waste a perfectly good .44 automatic bullet in the end when the general kills himself. Tsk tsk! ... Read more

Description

Three gorgeous women will stop at nothing for a chance to become a famous magazine's Centerfold of the Year. For Angel Grace, this opportunity is too good to pass up, and she enlists the help of a doctor who promises her great endowments with a secret beauty enhancement program. But something goes wrong, and Angel finds herself filling out in the most unusual ways! A wild and sexy comedy that shows beauty is not just skin deep, but 60 feet tall. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The 50 foot woman grows 60 feet taller!!!
No she is not The 50 foot woman but this Centerfold is bigger, badder and better the the other one!And look! now she has someone to fight about who has a bigger bust than the the other in the middle of Hollywood! I did enjoy this one better then the other movie. The reason i bought this movie and probbobly why all the other men who bought this movie was becuase of the picture on the case,it was a picture of J.J. North in a ripped up white bikini (witch didn't hide much) peeking behind a skyscrapper while a fire truck was at her feet.I think this movie deserves five stars because well, just look at the case.

3-0 out of 5 stars great campy movie
this is a funny great b-movie, with lots of beauful women, and a huge jj north as the sexy centerfold. the ending is pretty good, for anyone who likes b-movies, this is a must buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars JJ North is Incredible!
JJ North is one of the most beautiful women to land in any B-movie in the last twenty years. It's heartbeaking this stunning actress has not done more. This movie is what B-movies are about. It's fun and filled with incredibly pretty women. If you're looking for Oscar winning acting look elsewhere. If you want silly fun, you shouldn't miss this. My only complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough of the dark and sexy Nikki Fitz.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Most Colossal Catfight Ever Filmed!
J.J. North stars as Angel Grace, a drop dead gorgeous model who is insecure about her looks. She goes to a doctor who has developed a formula that will enhance her natural beauty. She drinks a certain amount every day, to help give her an edge over her competitors for centerfold of the year. This comedy is a thinly veiled cautionary tale about the dangers of drugs. As the effects of the beauty formula wear off quicker, Angel increases the dosage. By taking an overdose, her body grows to gigantic proportions. Jay Richardson as the humorous Hugh Hefner-like magazine publisher, and Tim Abell as the photographer, conspire to keep her from getting an antidote. They figure they can make millions off her as a colossal centerfold. This comedy is also a thinly veiled indictment of the way men exploit women. The luscious Tammy Parks plays Betty, Angel's main rival for centerfold of the year. When she finds out about Angel's beauty enhancement, she consumes a massive amount of the formula and also grows to massive proportions. The catfight between these two gorgeous giants is the highlight of the movie. This comedy is really a thinly veiled guilty pleasure!

3-0 out of 5 stars Babe-a-liscious!
Normally I would give a disc with absolutely no extras (except for 3 trailers for other Corman movies) 2 stars but I gave it an extra one since the price is so right. J.J. North is a babe beyond belief in this ripoff...er uh, I mean tribute to 50's sci-fi flicks such as 50 Foot Woman. REALLY bad special effects mixed with mostly forced perspective shots make for a fun flick with cameos by other favorites of mine like Nikki Fritz and Michelle Bauer. The catfight between the two female giants through downtown LA is a hoot and gives us the best line from the movie: "My God! Look at the size of those T*TS!!" ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Can I give it NO stars?
One of the worst movies on which I've had the misfortune of wasting money. Not all the Baldwin boys have talent OR taste OR even self-esteem. I can't believe anyone would admit to being in such an amateurly acted, poorly written and unprofessionally produced conglomeration of scenes.

PLEASE don't waste your money.

1-0 out of 5 stars mdp
I didn't even watch all of this movie because it was so bad. The one thing i did notice in the opening rescue scene was that most of the footage was from the 1990 Charlie Sheen movie Navy Seals which is a much better movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Desert Thunder.........BOOM!
I guess most of the other reviewers dont know good clean action when they see it.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Good cast, story, special effects.
No rampant sex (for a change)
No gory scenes (for a change)
A kind of laid back enjoyment.
Try it again.
It is kind of an update of Flight of the Intuder!

1-0 out of 5 stars I would like 87 minuets of my life back.
This movie was the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. It had no plot and no story line. The actors were terrible and so were the special effects (all in consideration that the movie was made in 1998).

If it is posible I would like to ask the director for the 87 minuets of the my life back, that I wasted watching that stupid movie. (I even hate the name "Desert Thunder")

1-0 out of 5 stars WHY IS CYNTHIA ROTHROCK IN THIS?
Being a huge fan of Cynthia Rothrock, I opted to rent a copy of this film when I saw her name in the credits. Cynthia is one of the all-time greatest martial-arts stars, ranking along with Chuck Norris & Jackie Chan. So, imagine my surprise when I viewed this movie and saw that, not only was her role just an extended cameo, but she had no fights scenes. The only scene worth watching was a bedroom scene in which she wears a somewhat revealing nightie. This was a major departure from her established martial-arts personna. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Where's Tom Berenger?
Whoa! this Movie was horrible! Wouldnt it make more sense to have Tom Berenger in the movie? Why even make a SUB 4 if he's not in it? Also, besides him not being in it, there were many flaws, Dont get me started

5-0 out of 5 stars Sub-4 Will Take Your Breath Away!
Wow. First off, I just want to say that this movie is truly a significant achievement in the history of filmmaking. Treat Williams stars in this thrilling drama, that sends a humble mercenary into the very heart of a Neo-Nazi conspiracy. Set in the late 1990's, our mercenary-hero (armed with high-explosives and a Ph.D. in modern literature) becomes a substitute at a military academy, only to discover it's been overrun by Nazi-thugs and a world-class exterminator. Peppered with megabuck special effects, including a scene in which the intolerant Nazis blow up a minority owned power plant, this movie proves itself to be a treat (no pun intended) for the eyes, as well as the soul. You'll truly feel like you're part of the action as Treat crushes his students with a bulldozer, beats ass in the classroom with chalkboard erasers, and kills the Nazi-principal as he screams in desperation for "racial purity". Put the children to bed for this one! "Substitute 4: Failure Is not an Option" will affect you in ways few films have. Its realistic portrayal of Nazism in our military academies is a silent and chilling reminder of who's really in charge of our children's futures. Your life will never be the same, once you see this film. Its title may seem cryptic, yet its message rings clear. Failure is NOT an Option!

2-0 out of 5 stars Substitute 4...Need I Say More?
Well, here comes the forth and hopfully last in the Substitute series. They should have only made one. This show is not worthy of sequels. I guess that Artisan thought that they could profit off of this series. Don't get me wrong, Treat Williams is a great actor, it's just too bad that he always lands in the straight to video movies. (Everwood may take up a lot of his time now so he won't have to make these types of movies). Angie Everhart's acting is not superb but decent. As for the others, judge that for yourself. The only thing that caught my interest in this movie was the scene between Teague Ted and the girl. The guy who plays Teague Ted is so hot. Being a teen boy having the girl in this movie was nice to see too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Watchable, but not the best installment of the series
While it's not a bad movie, The Substitute 4 is the worst of the 4 Substitute movies. One of the main reasons is the film quality. The first 3 movies seemed to have better "look" to them and seemed like they could have been shown in a theater. This one looks more like a straight to video release. Some parts of the movie are slow, but it still has enough action to keep you interested.

Treat Williams is good as usual. Angie Everhart is OK - but I don't know why she was there, and some of the bad guys are pretty bad actors. The fight scenes are ok - even if they are a little predictable. A "special effect" explosion at a dam is pretty funny looking. There's some decent nudity, the classroom fight scene is funny, and a kid falling on some spike at the dam was cool too. The final battle with the bad guy was cheesy - and like the other reviewer said - why would a racist have a asian henchman?! The twist with Everhart is a little unexplainable as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not too bad (as far as sequels go)
As a big fan of The Substitute series (which explains the four stars), I didn't think it was that bad. Treat Williams gives his third performance as Karl Thomasson, and in this film he goes undercover(as usual) in a military academy to infiltrate a Neo-Nazi group. Lots of action, hand-to-hand combat (only to be expected from the Sub), and Angie Everhart provides some pleasing eye candy. If you're not too big on The Sub, this might not be the movie for you. If you are, it ain't that bad. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Mark's best, but still enjoyable
The plot and story is pretty simple and straight forward and it never fails to amaze me how movies will ignore the obvious to get a product out there. Is that vague? Basically what I'm saying is that there are some obvious plot holes that could have been done away with.

There are some decent performances in here but they're kind of uneven and it feels like the cast isn't trying to hard most of the time. So why would I recommend this? Mark Dacascos of course!

On the acting side, Mark is trying to move into roles that require a little more characterization but unfortunately a movie of this type only allows a brief hint of that. Character study takes a back seat to action, which is also pretty sparse. I do think Mark put up a valiant effort, but it seems a little more emotion in certain areas would have made his performance more convincing. Tim Abell gives a fair performance as the protagonist, but as with Mark, there's some scenes that are played too detached for what's happening.

What we do have for action is pretty decent for the most part. There's a fight towards the end which shows off some new moves from Mark which are worth watching. But as with Drive, using a stunt double in certain scenes is both unnecessary and detracting from the experience. I believe it's James Lew, who's a great martial artist in his own right, but he's just not Mark.

I'd say this is something that hardcore Mark Dacascos fans might enjoy most. I still think casual watchers would be interested, but would probably do better to get Crying Freeman, Only the Strong, Drive or Brotherhood of the Wolf.

1-0 out of 5 stars horribly made
I think the writer who wrote this film had his head up his ass
Mark Dacascos did not kick Jims ass at the end as far as i am
concerned, Jim kicked Marks ass. People want to see the bad guy loose in a fight not the good guy. I bet all the money in the world people who see this film will think the same way I do. It was a total
dissapointment. This film should not have made it to the video store.

4-0 out of 5 stars tricks of the trade
ACTIVE STEALTH stars Daniel Baldwin, Fred Williamson, and Hannes Jaenicke (sp.?) in a standard rescue-mission action flick. Soldiers fly in a "modified" Stealth fighter to save their comrade, held prisoner by a Central American drug lord. Watching the DVD the first time, the movie held my interest, and I thought it was average fare--entertaining but not memorable.

I watched the DVD again with commentary by director Fred Olen Ray, and it was a blast. Ray is a hoot. His comments give all kinds of insight into how the movie was made. He introduces actors, and explains how shots are usually set up and executed. He explains special effects. Ray tells what it cost to rent the plane, and how the crew created "smoke" blowing past the actors in a few scenes (a worker blowing pipe smoke at them, actually).

Throughout the commentary, Fred is entertaining. If you've ever wondered how a B-movie gets made, ACTIVE STEALTH is for you.

I give the movie 3 stars, and the DVD 5 stars. Split the difference, and the ACTIVE STEALTH DVD gets 4 stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is so innaccurate!
This movie was a real loser. It is so innaccurate. "Rangers assulting a target in broad daylight with standard issue M-16's an M9's with no silencers or scopes. Most Rangers would use an M-4 or an MP5. No face paint, no stealth at all. Also, what Army unit flys a news crew style helicopter to pickup Rangers in the middle of South America? It should have been a Blackhwawk or a Huey gunship with AH-64 Apache air support.
The capabibility to shoot of these "Rangers" is terrible too. At little more than 100 feet they empty an entire clip and hit nothing but air.
The worst part of the movie was Army pilots flying an Air Force F-117 TWO SEATER WITH A CARGO BAY? NO NO NO!! It is a 1 man AIR FORCE, stealth bomber. Also Army pilots "carrier qualified" and F-14 qualified? No.
No. This movie was terrible, do not rent or buy it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible! Don't even rent it!!!
First of all, the movie/plot description on the DVD clamshell is so inaccurate that I wondered if I had received the wrong DVD. Example: The plot description states that a new Army (?) Stealth aircraft" has been stolen, so some special forces rangers are to lead an AH-64 Apache Squadron to bring the Stealth back to U.S. hands. Fine. BUT, there were NO AH-64's in the movie at all. AND, since when does the Army develop fixed-wing aircraft these days? Rangers in dire need of haircuts with no body armour going into battle? USAF/Army pilots that are carrier qualified to fly F-14s?
This movie is so technically inaccurate that it was frustrating. Very rarely do you see any of the actors (good or bad) actually aim there weapons when firing. Horrible acting, horrible technical advising (if there was any), lousy plot...I can go on and on. WARNING!: Don't be fooled by the DVD cover!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars short but sweet
This movie shows that with some team work anything can happen, even if you get killed in the process you did what you could to make a difference in the world. This movie was short but it a good movie.

1-0 out of 5 stars What were they thinking??
The budget for this movie obviously didn't include any technical advisors. This might have made for some enjoyable fare if there weren't so many obvious technical goofs and downright stupid plot points. Examples: An army pilot is carrier qualified to fly the F-14. Battle sequences that any Quake player could execute better. An F-117A with a cargo bay to carry passengers! There are many more, but I think you get the point.

This movie is for someone who has absolutely no knowledge of the real world. I can usually suspend belief if the story is any good, but this one just stinks!

Daniel Baldwin, I hope you don't include this turd on your resume because it's a career killer! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Can a man gamble for anything?
A fascinating story about a couple wants to make easy money and ultimately put themselves in trouble. The very attractive cast and their talents makes it really good. I really enjoyed it very much!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars More Action From Isaac Florentine
The director that brought us 'U.S. Seals 2' is back with another low-budget, high-octane action thriller. In what may be a nod to those who objected to the over-the-top unrealistic tone of "U.S.Seals 2', this one is a bit more realistic. The plot is less outrageous, the villains more like people you read about in the papers, and the combat action looks a little less Hong Kong extreme and a little more like real military take-downs.
But 'Special Forces' is still a Heroic Bloodshed flick through and through. The action is almost non-stop and choreographed with flair and skill. For a low budget movie there's a remarkable amount of stop-the-DVD-and -watch-it-again moments. And the climactic battle has one of the best martial arts showdowns I've seen in years. If you like wild action, you'll get a kick out of this.
The more realistic tone will probably please some, but I'd just as soon see the director cut loose. I bet he would make a drop-dead cool sword & sorcery fantasy flick. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent softcore, A+ hotties
One of the best softcore porn flicks out there, 2 main hotties get it on in multiple scenes. Only one small minus no women-women scenes. This movie is a must buy, a great flick, don't pass it off because Amazon does not feature a cover preview. There is basically non-stop women action in this one, from the beginning to the end, a must buy, I also recommend Femalien! peace...

4-0 out of 5 stars If you like Vampire Chicks, buy this one!
First, Night Shade breaks no new ground. It is a movie that opens with a steamy remembrance scene that let us know how much the main character loved his late wife, and goes on to reveal that she isn't quite dead. Hmmm...

X rated for for the explicit sex scenes, there is a fair amount of vampire action in Night Shade, which I had to wait a long time to see. But the characters are interesting, or laughable (particularly the police detective), and the vampiresses get to do their stuff more than once in the film, so I was left with a good impression. ...
