Paula Abdul's fans will really have fun with this 45-minute, high-energy dance workout. Even the warm-up is energetic and jazzy. Abdul teaches two dance routines. She introduces a 16-count pattern slowed down, then speeds it up until you're up to tempo, adding on until you've got a routine. Don't expect teaching expertise from Abdul--she cues the moves, but never explains how to do what she's demonstrating. Just watch and follow. You may need to pause this video a lot at first to learn the moves--she doesn't repeat the slowed-down moves enough to catch them--but after you get them, it becomes pure fun. She is assisted by two of her tour dancers and a crowded class of what she calls "ordinary people," though they're mostly young, good-looking, and very fit. The production is colorful and flashy. The constantly changing camera angles are distracting and sometimes annoying, because they hinder you from watching the feet to learn the moves. You'll enjoy the playful cool-down to Village People's "YMCA," led by the males in the class. An abdominal segment and stretches finish the workout. Coordination and rhythm required. --Joan Price ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Paula Abdul's Get Up and Dance
I think this video can be really awesome, alot of fun and a fantastic workout. I agree with a few other people's reviews. I went through the tape once and could not follow it. Its a workout that you definitely need to learn in steps. That's what I am doing now. Even though I could not follow Paula's steps when I tried it the first time, it still gave me a workout with sweating. I wanted to continue and learn the steps all at once but I knew I wouldn't be able to get up tomorrow morning. So I will gradually learn it and I am sure in time I will be able to follow her all the way. I really love dancing so I know I will love it when I can do all of it. In my opinion if you don't like dancing, this isn't the tape for you. Its fun and very challenging. I do believe though the people in the video are either professional dancers or they spents hours learning the steps in this video. You cannot learn it in a one shot deal. But I would say if you love to dance, love aerobics then this is definitely the workout for you. Thank you for letting me express my feelings about this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars Working out has never been so FUN!!!
I read the previous reviews of this DVD and was confident that it was going to be too difficult when I bought it...But for $12.99, I couldn't resist. Day One found me tripping over my own feet..But, today (day two)I had all the steps down and now I can feel free to "play" tomorrow and make the steps my own (and I am NOT a dancer) I experienced a high energy cardio workout (and that energy stays with you the entire day). In the end, there's a nice cool down and a killer abdominal workout. I can't wait to do it again tomorrow...It's SO nice to not have to hear "Feel the burn!" by a toothpick who lost you at the warm up and keeps telling you "You're doing great!" When you know you're not until you finally sit down, watch HER do it while you eat. It was just nice to learn how to dance, burn fat, and release tension, while having fun and who better to teach someone how to dance than Paula Abdul. She's welcome in my living room any day. Don't judge this workout by your first day...you WILL get it and if you like to dance you WILL enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Blast From Start to Finish!
I always liked Paula Abdul but this tape made me love her! It is just a great, fun dance workout that leaves me covered in sweat! I really smile while I am doing the routines and although it takes time to get them right, if you are persistent it will be a piece of cake. Really fun! You must try this tape!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for advanced users
This would probably be a great workout for beginners and intermediates. If you are advanced like me though it's just too easy. The dance steps are fun to do, but I just don't break a sweat or get my heartrate up at all

4-0 out of 5 stars What a Workout!
I've been working out to Paula Abdul's Get Up and Dance! video for over three years now. I never get bored with the steps and the routine has yet to become too easy. It still gets my heart rate up and is still providing me with toned muscles. I must admit, the music is out-dated and the clothes make me wince, but when it comes down to it, I'm looking forward to another three years of this tape. You really will see results! It may take a little while for you to master all the dance steps, but once you do you really get into it, and even start adding your own little bit of style to the routine. Good luck! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Miss Paula Gets The Gold
What a tape this is! WOW! Paula Abdul really gets your heartrate going, and she is great company to sweat with.At first the dance moves DO seem a bit complex but they are easily mastered and really work your body out. What I like the most is that the warm-up is quick and effective, then Ms. Paula takes you right into the dancing. And how-these are some real funky moves! She takes it slow(and uses an inset box which I find useless), and after a few times you'll get it. If anyone expect to pop in an excerise tape and have to routine after only 5 minutes-you have got another thing coming. After the dance routine, Paula does some real great toning and stretching. The workout really burns in you legs and thighs(hey-it's that "good" burn), and the stretching feels fantastic for you back and legs.If you consider yourself a beginner try Paula's first tape "Get Up And Dance". Otherwise pick you this tape(or DVD!) and get to it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cardio Dance...
I mastered "Get Up And Dance" and I loved it! I was looking for a new challenge and I found it with this DVD. I really like the warm up, it is not your basic stretching ect. It's fun and I almost feel like I am dancing in her video!

The problem that I have with this video is that I think you need to have more room than your average living room. Not to mention that Paula and her dancers can move so easily b/c they are on a tile floor and my living room carpet makes it harder to feel like you are doing the moves the right way.

All around I think that this video gives me a good workout and after I finish it I feel good, and I had fun. In fact the first few times I did it I was laughing at myslef b/c it was fun, not frustrating! I would say get "Get Up and Dance" first and if you like Paula's style then go for Cardio Dance.

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't break down the steps
Paula is a great dancer, but she does not spend enough time breaking down the dance steps on her DVD. I eventually got frustrated and quit, so I never got a workout. I'm a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor and have been doing aerobics for years but this workout is not for the average exerciser. If you are into dance and pick up dance step very quickly this may be okay for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars I can't dance :)
I love this DVD workout because it doesn't feel like a workout at all. I am not a natural dancer and just trying to follow along keeps my mind so busy I don't notice when I start to sweat. The dance segment flies by. It's about 30 min but it feels more like 10. The second part consists of lower body work that I sometimes skip because I'd rather do other workouts.

The only down side is that this video takes a lot of space to do. Most of my videos only require 6 or 8 ft square while this one is better with at least 10 feet square. I have to modify parts of the choreography to avoid running into the furniture and walls. Also, if you have any chordination at all you will get the dance in the first 5 to 10 workouts. If you have no chordination (like me) it will be challenging at first and the video will keep you entertained for months :). Also the moves are not ones I'd wip out on the dance floor in public, but my rhytm and heart rate are getting better :). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still in print?! A must have for Paula fans!
Wow, I had no idea this video was still in print.

This video features the videos (except for Opposites Attract) from the Forever Your Girl album.

The videos are Knocked Out, The Way That You Love Me (Version 1), Straight Up, Cold Hearted, Forever Your Girl, & The Way That You Love Me (Version 2), plus it also includes commentary from Paula about the videos.

I would recommend this to Paula fans! Brings back memories when Paula was all over MTV with these videos!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for Paula Fans
This is a wonderful video to own if you are a Paula Abdul fan - This video shows how Paula Abdul got discovered and all her success. There's lots of great footage that shows choreography, behind the scene look at her videos and concert material. It also contains the following videos:

"Knocked Out" (1988) Great video considering its 15 years old -

"The Way That You Love Me" (Version One) (1988) Lots of great dancing, this video has never been release to tv -

"Straight Up" (1989) Excellent video, winner of 4 MTV Video Music Awards -

"Forever Your Girl" (1989) A very fun video, lots of dancing on this one -

"Cold Hearted" (1989) An awesome video, probably one of Paula's best videos of all time -

"The Way That You Love Me" (Version Two) (1990) This video shows all of Paula's beauty - No Dancing

This is a great collection to own - difinitely worth watching!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Could've Been Better....
This was my first DVD, so initially I was all excited because I didn't know any better. I mean, this had to have been done in a rush. The first season of American Idol had so many wonderful performances and I just don't understand why the makers wanted to be so stingy about supplying us, the fans, with those performances! There is one performance for each finalist except for EJ, AJ, and RJ. There are two performances each for Kelly, Justin, and Nikki. I know Christina Christian didn't make the top three (which she should've) but the DVD would've been much better if there were more performances by her (especially her rendition of Glory Of Love). There are a few group songs that are good, the bonus extras are fine, but the entire thing could've been much better. With the low price, it's still worth buying though.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not highly impressed!
I consider myself to be an avid fan of American Idol. I came across the first season by accident, when I was sitting at home on a Tuesday night, and happened to turn on the tv to FOX. Ryan Star was singing at the time. When I heard that they came out with a DVD on American Idol, I assumed that it would be the ENTIRE SEASON. I was mistaken! Out of the 10 top finalists, you only get to view 5 out of the 10 do at least one solo performance. Kelly and Justin do 3-4, Niki does 2, Tamyra does one, and Christina Richin does 1. The DVD did a lot of recaps and behind the scenes, but still it wasn't enough to be worth while. It's ovious that American Idol is a hit, and the producers should think highly of doing a COMPLETE SEASON set of BOTH the FIRST & SECOND season!!

4-0 out of 5 stars I sure wish I could be on there, don't you all?
I think American Idol is such a cool idea. We all know that we secretly wish we were on there ourselves. So for all of you people judging, think of what it took for all of the singers to get that far. They even inspired me to sing myself, I bought a voice lesson Cd off Amazon- Voice Lessons To Go by Vaccarino, and I am listening to all my favorite artists and singing all the time. A group of my friends got together for Karaoke the other night- cool place- rented the room out, and I promise you I impressed. These singers are awesome. And learning to sing myself is teaching me how hard they really do work.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite DVDs
In the words of Randy, this DVD, "Did it's thang dawg!" I absolutely loved it. I only have one complaint about it. First, this movie didn't show many of the performances by the singers (they don't show ANY of EJay's and Jim's performance, not even in the extra features). They should have a section of EVERY performance by all of the singers, even in the Top 30.

Overall, this DVD was absolutely amazing. Brain was extremely funny in many sections of the show. I loved that section with the judges (I think it's called "When Judges Attack."). Wonderful!

But there's one more thing, why don't they have Season 2 and Season 3???

1-0 out of 5 stars UGGHHHHH!!!!
First of all, this show sucks in every single way that it is possible for a show to suck. They have run the gamut. You have your reality TV suck-factor (ALL "reality" TV shows are utterly dispicable), your arrogant, pompous, condescending, prissy, whiny, obnoxious, needs-to-just-keel-over-and-die British retard suck-factor (Simon, of course), your cutesy, trendy, demographically appealing American host with perpetually disheveled hair suck-factor (Ryan Seacrest, who I also hate), your long-irrelevant, obsolete, washed-up has-been who suddenly inexplicably feels she has a right to rate others suck-factor (the never-talented Paula Abdul), and of course then there's the contestants, who (whether they can sing or not) invariably pick the most inane, tepid, lame, schlocky, redundant, idiotic, pointless songs you could ever be unfortunate enough to hear on the worst lite-rock station in Kansas. ANYBODY who likes the kind of music they promote on "American Idol" needs to be tossed to the lions, and supposing Hell exists, I cannot imagine a better group of people to condemn to it than the people responsible for this show, which provides us all with a little slice of Hell here on earth. AMERICAN IDOL SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars paula brings it.....
paula pours her heart and soul into this fun, high energy extravaganza.it's more than just your run of the mill concert, all the elements are there.great songs,a tight band, energetic dancers and of course amazing choreography.if you're not a paula abdul fan, you will be one after you watch this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Her ONLY concert on VHS!!
If you wanna see why Paula is one America's most sought after choreographers, and why she ranks with fellow Pop Divas such as Janet Jackson and Madonna -- then you have to get this!

Paula's best work is displayed through her music videos and performances for crying-out-loud!! You CAN'T just have her albums and not see her perform!! This is what she does best. ;-)

This should definitely be in your "Music Memorabilia" collection...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Paula Performance
I was so excitted to find this on DVD, I grew up #1 FANS OF Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul. They were very popular at the same time but Paula was never able to capture the audience of the mid 90's with her follow up to Spellbound, "Head Over Heals", instead Janet took over. I think it's a shame we lost her as a recording artist and performer. I remember seeing Paula for the first time in December of 1991, in Phoenix,AZ,when I was 13 and in the 7th grade. It was "The Under My Spell Tour" and I was so excited to finaly see her Live. I saw her in "92" as she performed her encore perfomance, and I became so dazzled by her performance. She was truely talented. I wish she would make a come back! At least I can re live my Paula fanatic days with this performance.

4-0 out of 5 stars Under Paula's Spell Indeed.....
Paula Abdul's first (and only) major concert tour was amazing and completely blew me away as a viewer. Seeing all of the dancing and special effects was wonderful for me as a true Paula fan. Even though I felt the show was too short and more songs from her 2 albums (up to that point) should have been included besides the obvious hits. Songs like "Will You Marry Me?", "Alright Tonight" and "State of Attraction" immediately spring to mind. I recall Paula saying in an interview that she'd seen both Madonna and Janet Jackson's tours in 1990 and that she wanted to incorporate some of the energy and spectacle from them but also wanted her show to be more exciting and more striking. Well all I can say is that she most definently succeeded, combining intense dancing, video special effects, surprisingly decent vocals and of all things, flying ballet dancers, Paula's show was definently one of a kind. Each number performed showed Paula's versatility as a dancer and choreographer and most of all, an entertainer. This Grammy and Emmy winning performer didn't get half the acclaim and credit she so richly deserved. But this is 1 fan who's certainly under Paula's spell. And by the way she looked great contrary to the above opinion, she was nowhere near "fat".

5-0 out of 5 stars Under my spell concert in japan
i am a big fan of paula abdul.its very hard to find her video tape in asia, i am so glad to get it from amazon Her dance is excellent ,but she didn't dance very well during 'straight up'its a bit bored b4 she sang the'vibelogy' she looked a bit fat in her concert but it is still a great video collection for pple who love paula abdul ^o^ ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This was the worse tape I have ever seen, it was so fake.
They royaly messed up on the way it happen with Alan Freed, they did not show how he had found a lot of the Doo Wop groups singing on corners and brought them in, it left out a lot of what Alan Freed was and what Alan Freed stood for for all Doo Wop groups, plus the actor Judd Nelson did not look anything like Alan Freed. I would not recommend this video to anyone. Get the real version that was out not the remake.

4-0 out of 5 stars LIVE ON ROCK AND ROLL!
Here's how Rock and Roll started, the movie is an incredible documentary on the music that turn the world around! and how began their magic step on radio airwaves, all the acting skills of the performers are great specially PAULA ABDUL who surprisely is a great actress and should have done more singing, dancing on the movie, she's so such a sweetheart!, Judd Nelson is a great actor an portrayed Alan Freed with great confidence and reality. Leon is so close to be Jackie Wilson himself. Fair for a great TV Movie, that stands out for the music.

3-0 out of 5 stars Alan Freed's Story
Judd Nelson is quite convincing in his portrayal of Alan Freed, Mr. Rock 'N' Roll. I teach radio and television broadcasting at Wheeling Park High School in Wheeling, WV. My students and I were surprised with the way blacks were treated during that time period. Nelson tells it like it was. He has a mission and shows how Freed broke down the walls to help make rock and roll live forever in our world. Some of the language was a bit harsh, for teenagers. However, adults would also enjoy the movie. You'll be concerned with what the past showed, yet will have fun watching this movie when you find yourself singing along with the favorite songs of the day! I enjoy watching it time and again! ... The Runaway Documentary Is Like MTV'S Making The Video... LOL...

5-0 out of 5 stars MAGNIFICENT! Janet is terriffic in all of these videos.
This tape features the music videos for "What Have You Done for Me Lately", "Nasty","When I Think of You","Control","Let's Wait Awhile","The Pleasure Principle","Miss You Much","Rhythm Nation","Escapade","Alright","Come Back to Me", "Black Cat","Love Will Never Do(without you)", "That's The Way Love Goes","Whoops Now", and "Runaway". This video also has a Runaway documentary. I watch this video over and over and I never get tired of it. It's amazing. Janet is the BEST dancer ever. I encourage all of you to buy this video. It is a wonderful collection of Janet's greatest hits!

5-0 out of 5 stars Janet's music videos
Janet has terrific videos, I love all of them, the choreography is superb and she is a really good dancer. This is the VHS version of her greatest hits CD "Design of a Decade" and has all the songs of the album except for "The Best Things In Life Are Free" (but since Janet can't be seen in that video, it's not really missed) and "Twenty Foreplay" (which would be a great addition).

Those who miss the videos of the "janet." album should buy the VHS release "janet." which has the videos of You Want This, If, Again, Any Time Any Place and a different version of That's The Way Love Goes.

4-0 out of 5 stars design of a great career
this is a collection of music videos from janet jackson in her prime and at her creative peak. I only wish more videos from the janet album were featured and that miss you much was extended, but I know that this is representative of mostly her A&M work and barely her Virgin work. My favourite videos are nasty, control, pleasure principle and all the videos from rhythm nation as well as the multicultural runaway. Get it today and see what janet did before britney and those kids came along

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing, but with a few shortcomings
I agree with the other reviewers about how essential a collection of Janet videos is. The choreography is amazing and her attention to detail rivals that of her brother. I'm giving this only four stars because it could have taken better advantage of the DVD capacity (read: more videos, please!:)

The Control videos are pretty much here in their entirety, but Rhythm Nation is where we begin the edits. I loved the extended chair sequence at the end of "Miss You Much", but it is missing here. They certainly had room for the additional 30 seconds. Come to think of it, they could have included the entire Rhythm Nation movie. Perhaps in a future release. The "Alright" video is also truncated, but even in its edited form is still long enough and enjoyable (very cool to see Cab, Cyd, and the Nicholas Brothers).

Absent from the "janet" release are "If" and "Again". Another reviewer mentioned a few other vids from this CD, but these are the only ones that stood out for me. "If" had this cool Asian underground theme and some interesting choreography, while "Again" was basically just clips from "Poetic Justice". I would rather have seen either of these videos in favor of "Whoops Now".

I'm guessing the omission of some of her later videos was to maintain consistency with the format of the Design CD (but then what is "Whoops Now" doing here?). I'm hoping a more complete retrospective is released soon, but I found this for $9 and couldn't resist. It's hard to sit still while watching these videos, they make you want to dance. :)

Early in their career: Check out JLo (from her "In Living Color" dancer days) in "That's the Way Love Goes". And of course Paula in the "Nasty" video. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kid party
I purchased this VHS because I am a Sheila E fan and i needed it to complete a collection but I rather enjoyed it and it was great to see ole school heads like Shanice Wilson and Kriss Kross. It was really great that all of those celebrities got together for such a good cause and kids will surely enjoy the music.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Fantastic!!!
This video is a must for parents and children to see. I was purchasing it for my five year old neice and decided to buy one for myself. The creative renditions of the nursery rhymes were superb. The songs were so delightful and lighthearted. It's also educational for anyone who wants to know about AIDS. I commend everyone who played a part in this video. It's the best, simply the best!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, enjoyable, and highly entertaining.
It,s great to watch this and see stars like Jason Priestly, Kadeem Hardison, and Mayim Bialik. Performances by Criss Cross, and Shanice, etc.. are just wonderful. Paula Abdul's rendition of Zippedy Doo Dah is great, but my kids absolute favorite is the hoola hoop performance. It is without a doubt the most exciting and funny thing on the entire tape, and that's saying alot. This is a must buy for people with kids. Hope you have a chance to get it soon. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Was Captivated¿
When I first saw this amazing home video of Paula Abdul's music videos back in 1992. It houses 3 music videos from her 1991 #1 smash "Spellbound." The video for "Rush Rush" is the best here. It recreates the classic James Dean movie "Rebel Without A Cause." It's imaginative, unique, fascinating and romantic. "The Promise Of A New Day" is also candy to the eye, with Paula looking hot in an orange bra and skirt. The video is lush and so captivating. I also like the 1990 classic "Opposites Attract." It's so much fun with MC Skat Cat. "Blowing Kisses In The Wind" video is ho-hum, but the song is excellent, easily her finest ballad! You'll watch this over and over just for Paula's amazing dance and singing! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Average music, poor videos
The music videos on this VHS are very poor. They are mainly black and white and are very hazy. They are also not very exciting.

Her songs are OK though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Paula Abdul's Best Work
The video includes the videos for Knocked Out, The Way That You Love Me, Straight Up, Forever Your Girl, and Cold Hearted Snake, footage of Paula as a Laker's Girl, on tour, and interviews with Paula. 1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible Movie, but hey, Paula Abdul's in it!
I have always heard nothing but terrible reviews of this movie, so when I decided to finally see for myself (and this was solely because I am a Paula fan and wanted to see her...*bad acting*) it was worse than expected. The film lagged and reminded me of Paula's last venture in acting. "touched by evil" anyone (one of ABC's worst made for TV movies in history).

Bottem line: Not worst your precious time (unless you like Paula!).

3-0 out of 5 stars For those who enjoy the occaisional Harlequin Romance...
Do you remember Kung Fu: The Legend Continues? If you do and were a fan of the show, then you will be pleasantly surprised to know that Chris Potter plays the romantic leading man in this nice, if somewhat bland, love story.

Basically, Potter plays a spy trying to protect his spy mentor's niece, and his mentor, from an evil spy that Potter and the uncle used to work with.

Pretty much the standard manipulations and lies but the chemistry between Potter and the female lead is pretty good.

Oh, and Paula Abdul makes an appearance playing the female lead's best friend.

Espionage, romance, and two beautiful people. A nice way to wile away an hour or so. ... Read more
