3-0 out of 5 stars "Lawrence and Smith Are The Bad Boys of Comedy"
Hilariously enjoyable as any black comedy and full of fast paced action, "Bad Boys," as a 'slick flick,' stars Martin Lawrence as Marcus Burnett and Will Smith as Mike Lowrey playing two cops who fall on to the trail of millions of dollars of Heroin stolen by a criminal mastermind named Fouchet (Tcheky Karyo) and try to recover it as well as rescue Julie Mott (Tea Leoni) who is also involved. Personal matters appear to Marcus Burnett who is obsessed with getting "quality time" with his wife Theresa (Theresa Randle) and almost loses his marriage when he is forced to switch names and use Mike Lowrey in front of Julie. The comedy works unmistakeably well, however, the only mistakes I find in here are the heavy profanity and the violence used. But I keep saying this to myself, how can you pardon the profanity if it works well with the script? Oh well. Don Simpson-Jerry Bruckheimer Films/Columbia Pictures, 1995, Rated R for intense violent action and persuasive strong language.

4-0 out of 5 stars Something Old, Somthing New
By the mid-nineties, the buddy cop action flick was not a new idea. Starting with 48 Hours and continuing with movies like Beverly Hills Cop and Lethal Weapon, the "cat and dog in a barrel" concept had been fairly played out. However, in 1995, a new director and some rising stars teamed up with the movie veterans behind Top Gun to create a new breed of action movie.

In Bad Boys, wild card narcotics officers Marcus (Martin Lawrence) and Mike (Will Smith) are in a bind. Their career dope bust has just been robbed from the station, and their only hope of finding it is the witness to a murder. However, circumstances get complicated when the two are forced to switch roles, and family man Marcus has to become swinging bachelor Mike for 72 hours.

The plot of the movie is fairly weak, centering around the drug bust and the cops' efforts to protect the witness, find the dope, and (shock and awe) keep Internal Affairs off their backs. However, the plot is not the reason to see the movie. For the reason, just look to the stars.

The same spirit of banter and hen-pecking that made the Lethal Weapon series so enjoyable is given a fresh coat of paint, and a couple of fresh voices. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence snap, crackle, and explode on screen, whether their shooting the bad guys or just firing pot shots at each other. While Lethal Weapon showed us the friction between a fresh pair of partners, Bad Boys shows us two cops who have been together six years, and know just how to get on each other's nerves.

But even with the snappy humor that Lawrence and Smith bring to the screen, the movie rides on wheels of action. Micheal Bay has become synonymous with action movies, and Bad Boys is the reason why. In his directorial debut, Bay uses swift camera moves, scenic pans, and judicious slow motion, fusing elements of John Woo and MTV to create a fresh take on gunplay and car chases. Although he lacks Woo's finesse in creating bullet ballets, Bay definitely knows how to keep a film's pace going, and Bad Boys does just that.

Sure, the movie's not perfect. The plot is sometimes laughably flawed, and the real Miami PD wouldn't put with half the crap that Smith and Lawrence pull, but the movie is enjoyable nontheless, focusing on character conflict and balls-out adrenaline to keep the audience entertained. Combined with a solid cast of character actors (Joe Pantoliano ROCKS), and Bad Boys is summer entertainment at its funnest. ... Read more

Filmmaker Hal Hartley is something of an acquired taste. But if you can get on his oddball, deadpan wavelength, you can't help but enjoy his films--and this is one of his best. Isabelle Huppert plays a former nun who now works as a pornographer. She connects with Martin Donovan, playing a fellow who's lost his memory, but whose past may contain particularly nasty stuff. As they look for a way to get away from that past (which includes a couple of hit men who look like stockbrokers), the two discuss the meaning of their lives in hilariously vague ways. Hartley's dialogue is tart and concise, filled with acidic but low-key humor. And Donovan, who also starred in the director's equally good Trust, has just the right downbeat affect to give the film an unusual spin. --Marshall Fine ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece
Restraint wrings our emotion. Jumping up and down can express joy, but a perfect ballet segment will convey ecstasy so complete the dance pratically creates it. Subtlety often can explode emotions larger than realism.

Hal Hartley understands this. The characters in his film do not talk like real people. Their speech is subdued, flat, and usually bluntly honest. Their small words carry mountains of meaning.

Most mystery films focus on the identity of the bad guy. This film instead chooses to explore the bad guy's identity. The film opens with him laying unconscious on a cobblestone street. He awakes but has no idea who he is. With this premise, the audience always knows who the bad guy is. He is in almost every frame of the feature. The rest of the film sets about discovering who the bad guy is.

I'm avoiding the film's plot. Telling too much about this film steals many of its pleasures, although I have enjoyed it each of the ten times I have seen it. Most scenes are arranged as artfully as a painting, the actors understand and enlarge Hartley's vision, and the music, ranging from Liz Phair to Pavement, is excellent.

This film may well be the best the ninties have to offer. Hartley's own Simple Men is one of the only other real contenders.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gets better with repeated viewings
Like all Hal Hartley films (I've seen Flirt and Henry Fool, but neither are as good as Amateur), this is a decidedly odd and mannered movie. The first time I saw it, the far-fetched plot and stilted characterizations are a bit unnerving. This is an ambitious project--Hartley explores the fall of man (an event which literally precedes the film) and original sin in the context of an off-kilter Manhattan thriller. There are some hilariously delivered deadpan one-liners (Martin Donovan: "You're a nyphmomanic and you've never had sex? How could that be?" Isabelle Huppert: "I'm choosy.") But the heart of the movie revolves around the title, and how, try as we might, we cannot escape who we are--Hartley seems to suggest that humanity's flaws are indelible, and despite the guises we might adopt, we are only novices. Amateur ranks low on entertainment value (see Air Force One instead), but a great thinking person's film: brainy, sly, somber, and at times (especially the ending), heartbreaking. Hartley's beguiling screenplay unravels its original insights upon repeated viewings, and it makes the effort worthwhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Hartley Ever
This is my favorite Hal Hartley film, several of the scenes do not fail to bring a tear to my eye or give me a feeling of frisson and I saw it for the first time in 1995. I think that should say it all.

Purist Hartley fans seem to believe that Trust is the quintessential Hartley, and while I agree that the film is great, Amateur has a much more complicated plot and explores more complicated issues.

The film is all about ontology. What is the nature of being? Can one change? What is memory? Is there an essential nature to existence or is existence mutable depending on experience?

Don't think, however, this is some weird indie/foreign flick heavy on the meaning. Hartley manages to pose all of the above questions within a film that is quirky and funny and deadpan and sad and wonderful all at the same time.

Yes, I know this man.

4-0 out of 5 stars The mark of Hal (Hartley)
Here's the trademark Hartley quirkiness that fuses bullets with uncertainty, a fried-brain accountant and two sexy women, semi-stagey dialogue and neatly dressed corporate hit men. Here's Parker Posey in a small role, Michael Imperioli (of The Sopranos) in a smaller one, and Martin Donovan as the amnesiac lead male who gets involved with Isabelle Huppert's character, an ex-nun who's turned to writing porno fiction--unfortunately, bad enough to make her publisher reject her work.

And here's Elina Lowensohn as well as a porno actress who wants out of her tawdry (though well-paying) life, whose sad eyes and possible death wish clash with her overly sensuous demeanor. How can all these disparate elements, you ask, ever possibly blend into a whole?

An excellent question. In Hartley's film, they do and they don't. Nobody really knows anything for sure; everyone here is an amateur at life, trying to figure out what to do next--or not knowing how to do anything next. Thomas (Martin Donovan's character) can't remember his name or what he did in the past. Isabelle (Huppert's character) knows intuitively she's linked to Sofia (Elina Lowensohn's role) but she doesn't know how. The accountant, Edward (Damian Young) seems self-assured until he has his brains fried and then he's completely unpredictable.

There's shooting and torture and a little love making. There's uncertainty or puzzlement around every corner. We never really know a whole lot, Hartley's saying, and because of that, you could, in fact, meet a porno-loving ex-nun. You could be an accountant whose neat orderly life is scrambled into violent outbursts and uncontrollable behavior. You could wind up becoming a man who doesn't remember his name and makes some effort to find out what it is, but not enough to discover it.

So is this a coherent film? Hartley is interested more in character than coherence. Structure is not as important as how people actually impact each other, how they impinge on each other's lives. It is, he says, this random colliding of personalities that determines what will happen; people are so complex and so full of possibilities that things just...happen as a result of them being brought together.

Once the viewer accepts this perspective, everything falls into place. Or randomly shifts into place--falling here, rising there, making a jagged turn when you least expect it.

This is less satisfying than Hartley's masterpiece Henry Fool, but it is nevertheless a very intriguing film and definitely worth seeing.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amateur rewiew
I was channel-surfing when I landed on IFC showing a "comedy-drama" called Amateur. It was nearly an hour in, and there was this scene of these two geeky accountant types arguing about the merits of various cell-phones while using the wires from a floorlamp to electrocute a Christopher Lloyd look-alike. High-concept, but decidedly "B", I thought. But as the movie progressed, I began to notice the deliberation that led to the quirky stagger of the film. The style itself was saying things that the action couldn't begin to convey. This was high art! And it was funny in an intentionally-unintentional way.
The plot, about an ex-nun who now writes bad pornography, a porn queen with a grudge, and an ex-pornongrapher with amnesia, each searching for their identity, is interesting, but it doesn't begin to tell of the impressive stylishness of this movie. Amateur sucks you in like Beckett mixed with "letters to Penthouse", and leaves you satisfied on both accounts. If this sounds good to you, you should check it out. It shows on IFC quite frequently. Oh also, this movie turned me into a freak for Elina Lowensohn. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars About a scary as an old sock
This movie reeked. Not just of bad acting or plot, but it suffered the unfortunate disease known as cornymonsteritis. The monster in this movie, Grim, was less than scary, just kinda corny. This movie will tug at you in the night time, giving you equally corny nightmares. However, I decided to add one extra star since this movie had its share of gore and a few cool scenes. All in all, it still sucked!

5-0 out of 5 stars GRIM or Chupacabra?
Basically, I just like how he looks. This movie may be scary o most viewers, but the people who gave it a bad review always judge it on the production values. What do they know about production values. Acting is sometimes off, and this is totally better than Fright Night, Pumpkin Head, and Scream. This movie you have to think. Those of you who don't like to think during a movie will hate it. No this will not stimulate those old brain cells and boggle your minds. If you want something like that read a book, but if you want to have some dumb fun, and make fun of a film this is the one!

1-0 out of 5 stars THE GRIM SLEEPER
One word can sum up this movie: boring. Forget the lack of really good effects; acting; writing; direction. Forget the fact that the monster looks like an actor in heavy ineffectual makeup. I can accept cheesy horror movies, but none that are so boring as GRIM. The pacing is superlethargic, and the musical background atrocious. There were no scares, and only a few unintended laughs. Like where did Steve get the gong and hammer to play? And if Grim could walk through walls, how come he got clobbered by a collapse? Totally inane, and unfortunately, boring!

5-0 out of 5 stars awe inpiring
This is by far the greatest movie i have ever watched. Emmanuel is a great, action oriented hero with great one liner like "EASY!" and "OVER Here @$$hole!" And the late Kadamba was a very talented actress who deserves a nod from the grammy board. Grim, with his rock teleporting ability and great teeth, is one of the scariest monsters I have ever seen, just short of the horrifing Barbra Striesand (spelling?). And when Grim makes his Grim stew...well, its magic!

1-0 out of 5 stars an unhappy viewer
This film is one of the worst horror movies I have ever seen, it is not scary and not even amusing. I don't care that the monster looks fake but there was no suspense and the killings were too short. The film failed to explain where the monster came from or why it was killing people and the director didn't even seem to be able to distinquish night from day. The actors went into the caves in the middle of the day but when the monster came out not long after it was night time.

The film was too frustrating to watch more than once and I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good as vampire movies go
Let's face it, if you're a fan of the genre, you know that most vampire movies suck (no pun intended). This one doesn't. It's actually pretty good, especially if you like a view that's sympathetic to the vampires. The vampires in this movie are a subspecies of humans, with their own society and laws. Sounds sort of like Kindred, The Embraced, doesn't it? It even has the stylish old-world vampires at odds with the younger, rebel vampires. It also has the beautiful blonde human reporter who's in love with one of the vampires. The movie has some good twists, attractive women, cool settings...and it's entertaining.

4-0 out of 5 stars I Love This Movie!
This is one of the few vampire movies I could watch again and again. It's not very gory but it's very entertaining nonetheless. It stars Jason London, and he plays his role as that of vampire-who-doesn'-t know-he's-a-vampire very well. Blood Ties has its very funny moments as well (I'm not sure they were supposed to be that funny...). Get this movie today. Happy watching!

3-0 out of 5 stars Views more like a murder drama than a vampire movie...
Frankly, I'm surprised it even got an R rating. The story isn't half bad, except they break the cardinal rule that vampires can't exist in the daylight. In most ways they don't even seem like vampires--just a strange branch of humanity who can feed on blood when riled enough. Anyway, don't expect any nudity. What scenes there are could probably be boadcast without censorship, in my opinion. The violence must be what makes it restricted, but again compared to most vampire movies of today, the violence is very tame.

If you're looking for a borderline R vampire flick to watch with teen members of the family, this is it. Enjoy the tale. But, hardcore horror fans will think this extremely disappointing....

5-0 out of 5 stars "Only Revenge Is Sweeter Than Blood"
"Blood Ties" begins in Anchor, Texas, where three S.C.A.V. (Southern Coalition Against Vampirism) members murder a teen's parents and shoot the young man (Cody Puckett, played by Jason London) with a crossbow before setting the house on fire. Luckily he escapes--or rather, the Amish-looking trio allow him to get away so they can follow him to "the others".

Wounded, 17-year-old Cody seeks the rich, corrupted Uncle Eli Chelarin (Patrick Bauchau) in Long Beach, California. Here Cody meets a few other relatives: Butcherbird "Butch" Vlad (Salvator Xuereb), Eli's rebellious nephew and the apparent leader of the Shrikes (the young troublemakers of the family, which Cody becomes a part of); Harry Martin, aka Harlevon Martinesque (uncertain spelling; played by Harley Venton), another one of Eli's nephews, as well as a reporter for the 'Long Beach Post-Gazette' and Cody's "guardian"; and Celia (Michelle Johnson), Eli's younger halfsister and lover. She's also Harry's occasional lover, which, by the way, if you hadn't noticed, makes her his half-aunt. Grossed out? Then you may not want to watch this one, because there's more incest involving cousins. Nothing graphic though.

In the movie, Harry is one of the leading characters who is trying to track down these "vampire" hunters before they can hurt anyone else. His semi-assistant is D.A. Amy Lauren (Kim Johnston Ulrich), who had tried to put Butch in jail at the beginning of "Blood Ties", but failed because of Eli's monetary charm. Amy's more of a blond-haired-blue-eyed sexual distraction for Harry, though, than any real help.

Although "Blood Ties" is essentially a vampire/horror movie, it doesn't rely on fangs or other vampire myths at all. It's more of a tongue-in-cheek soap opera drama with a hint of vampirism that's more racially charged than scary. This is noticeable in how the word "vampire" is considered a derogatory term, even though that's what they are; "Carpathian" is the appropriate term. Another example of racial undertones in this movie is when the redheaded Western Regional S.C.A.V. member (Grace Zabriskie) spouts off how terrible it is to have to sit with "one of them" on the bus or be with one in the same room. She continues by saying the "vampires" sole purpose is to steal other people's spouses, jobs, parking spaces, etc. Concerning "vampires" it sounds absurd, I know, but realize there's more to this movie than just cursory blood and guts, although the violence is quite tame and nonexistent compared to today's standards. There is some bloodletting, but no graphic vein-ripping, limb-tearing scenes here.

Sure, it's pretty cheesy at times too, i.e., the choreographed dancing of the Shrikes, but "Blood Ties" wasn't meant to be a serious film. It had aired back in May of 1991 on Fox as a pilot, but apparently it didn't take as a series. I remember watching it back then and pretty much fell in love with it at first viewing since it combines my two favorite genres (horror and comedy) and spotlights "vampires" (my favorite type of monster). I simply can't wait for the DVD version to come out this June!

4-0 out of 5 stars Another fresh twist on the vampire theme
Excuse me -- not "vampire"! That's an ugly word, a slur. These folks preferred to be called "Carpathian -Americans," thankyouverymuch.

And most of what you've heard about ... Carpathians ... is untrue. Wild, exaggerated, ugly tales. (Except the thing about liking the taste of blood. That's true. But that was long ago. They're civilized now. Didn't _your_ ethnic ancestors do some pretty gross things hundreds of years ago?)

"Blood Ties" looks at an extended clan of, uh, Carpathian-Americans as just another group of immigrants, living in Long Beach, CA. There's the first generation -- conservative, with strong ties to the old country and the old ways. The second generation -- assimilationist, more "American" in their thinking. And the young third generation -- rediscovering their heritage, militantly proud of it, and a little bit spoiled.

These immigrants, however, are also victims of prejudice and hate ... which turns deadly ... There are "vampire hunters" abroad, and they are the bad guys.

Suspenseful, sexy, sometimes humorous and maybe even thought-provoking. I don' t think this was exactly a big-budget movie, but it was very entertaining. I wish it could have become a TV series. And I loved the "Carpathian" music -- especially the tune that plays at the beginning and ending. I wish I could get a recording of it. ... Read more

Combined with a solid cast of character actors (Joe Pantoliano ROCKS), and Bad Boys is summer entertainment at its funnest. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars intelligent well made movie
I enjoyed this movie altho I found one of the principal actors a bit to affected to be believable.JAMES BROLIN does a fine job as a first time director as well as taking the lead role .PATRICK FOY does well as the reluctant hero and GARY COOK as the IRA head is well cast. The only problem I had was that it was a bit cliched but then it is getting more and more difficult to come up with and original idea no matter what the story.Watch out for the BILL MURPHY cameo. He plays paddy kelly an IRA activist with the fire of freedom burning in his belly.Stunning scene.

2-0 out of 5 stars My Brother's War
This movie had a good plot. The performances by Salvator Xuereb and Patrick Foy were absolutely superb as feuding IRA brothers. I could have done without James Brolin. He and his character were out of place and his acting, as usual, leaves you unmoved. It's a movie worth watching on a rainy day. It is especially worth watching for the poem at the end - very moving.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible, God Awful
The only reason we bothered renting this movie is becuase our friend has been making fun of it in the past two weeks (by the way, he found in the Blockbuster dumpster). It exceeded our expectations and is probably the most unintentionally hilarious movie we have ever seen. How can you not laugh every time James Brolin enters the screen? Plus, why did Josh Brolin get a billing when he was only in the movie for 2 1/2 minutes?

5-0 out of 5 stars Wet RULES!!
The movie was pretty much a dud until the final one "Wet". WOW!
They saved the best short film for last! Cynda is incredibly gorgeous and the camera didn't miss her beautiful body. It was tastefully done and it didn't go overboard with exploitation. The eye popping "money shot" is when she stood up in the tub with suds running down her backside, WOW!!
That shot alone gives this movie 5 stars from me. This review refers to the DVD version

2-0 out of 5 stars Tales of Silliness
The Video "Tales of Erotica" which has 4 short movies is basically Tales of "Silliness" since none of the stories are based on erotic reality. My favorite was the final story, "Wet" which featured the beautiful Cynda Williams. The only erotic and exciting thing about this video is it's 4th story "Wet" and the nude shot of Cynda William's perfectly shaped buttocks as she rises from the hot tub dripping "wet" from the bubbly water......she is definitley worth looking at.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a review for the Leonard Maltin film mentioned above
The Erotic Tales video I'm reviewing has Mira Sorvino on the cover as pictured, and is 4 short stories. The Mira Sorvino one is so forgettable that I can't think of a thing to say, only that Mira doesn't get particularily erotic or nude. The Melvin Van Peebles episode was laughable, repeditive, and again not erotic.....no, only the Ken Russell episode made this worthwhile. Not erotic "spank" material to be sure, but it kept me interested, and I found it intriguing, erotic to a degree, and I was dissappointed when that segment finished.

1-0 out of 5 stars AWFUL Movie
I like erotic movies but this one was just awful. I REALLY disliked it. The plot and the acting was not done well at all. Save your money and your time.

5-0 out of 5 stars greatest cowboy movie ever
this is a great movie. I thouhgt it was funny. with the pairing of the patient sonny with the fast riding pepper. it is funny watching them try to save a cuban girl while trying to put up with each other

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Humorous
I have only recently viewed this movie. Why did I wait so long? It was very funny, and very entertaining. I would watch it again and again. I read Leonard Maltin's review of the movie. In it he says something about it being "unrealistic". Well, duh, it's just a movie. So just relax. It can be unrealistic if it wants to be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Such a great movie
I saw this when it first came out to rent, it is so funny you will be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what they are going to do/say next.

3-0 out of 5 stars Rootin-Tootin Fun ...In The Big Apple
This review refers to the Universal/Imagine DVD edition of "The Cowboy Way"....

Look out New York!...Pepper Lewis and Sonny Gilstrap, champion rodeo riders from New Mexico are about to gallop their way into your fair city. Yessiree..these guys are real cowboys and their hog tying, roping and riding skills are about to come in mighty handy in th Big Apple.

Woody Harrelson and Kiefer Sutherland make this action/comedy very much worth the view, as two cowboys who find themselves fighting off the bad guys in NYC's garment district. They have come looking for their friend Nacho, who was to pick up his daughter, smuggled in from Cuba. What they find is a missing friend, a girl who is being held hostage by sweat-shop operators and trouble at every turn. The action and comedy is non-stop as they go up against a savvy, ruthless "slave-trader"(Dylan McDermot), but also get a little help from the NYPD in the form of one Officer Sam "Mad Dog" Shaw(Ernie Hudson), who gets a real kick out of playing cowboy.

The DVD is excellent. A beautiful widescreen picture that has sharp details, rich colors and sounds terrific in Dol Dig 5.1 Surround. There are nice captions in English for those needing them and subtitles in Spanish as well.It may also be viewed in Spanish(Stereo) or French(5.1). The DVD includes production notes, bios on the cast, a theatrical trailer, and Web links. It also says(on the case) there are "Film Highlights" as one of the features, but I could not locate these.

Three stars for a very entertaining and fun view, rated PG-13(thematic elements and brief nudity),probably one that will be watched on occassion, but may not stand up to repeated viewings. Great for Woody Harrelson or Kiefer Sutherland fans, and nice to pull out for anyone that has not seen it yet.

Happy Trails....Laurie

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Cowboy's don't come from Texas.
They come from New Mexico. 2 Ropin and Ridin Cowboys head for the Big Apple in an Action Adventure Comedy that will have your complete attention during the duration of the film. Dylan McDermot of "The Practice" plays a very convincing bad guy in a suave manner. There are great moments when the Cowboy meets the big city including a great moment when the two main characters go dining in a fine New York resturant. They don't completely stick out like a sore thumb though, and New York seems to speed right by them with no glance what so ever.
The movie brings up thoughts of wanting to do some line dancing and some "shiver shots". Don't know what that is? You'll see. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Red"," White" and "Blue" on the Run
Everybody made a big deal about Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers", calling it brilliant. But I thought it was ... One of the worst movies ever, too over the top and condecending. "The Doom Generation" gets it right with a mixture of satire, music, and a punk attitude.
The movie stars Rose McGowan as Amy Blue. Both she and her boyfriend Jordan (James Duval) are sitting in their car sharing a moment when Xavier (Jonathon Schaech)leaps into their car and thay have to get out of there to avoid the goons chasing Xavier.
After that, they embark on a road trip around L.A. They get involved in a bloody holdup, killings, and are being chased by homophobic maniacs, the FBI,and people who constantly mistake Amy Blue for someone else. The movie has a tongue in cheek quality that I felt accurately mirrored the teen angst rebels on-the-run scenario. Rose McGowan makes the movie with her witty one-liners and her attitude driven performance. It's wild and outrageous and has an ending that definitely caught me off guard. I also think the soundtrack, which I bought,is pretty good. With gore, nudity, ...undertones, and enough metaphors ... , this one's not for the kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rose and Gregg tear up the screen!!
What drew me to this film was the sexy chic on the cover.. Rose Mcgowan made this role her own.. Gregg Araki directed the film and her very well.. The film is about two lovers played by Mcgowan and James Duvall. They pick up a stranger who is being beaten up by a gang of kids.. after picking him up (by accident).. they try to drop him off at a convenience store.. trouble ensues and the twosome becomes a threesome.. they begin to travel across the state to avoid the police.. on their journey they meet up with some very strange characters who all think they are lovers of Mcgowans, and try to take her back by any means neccesary.. each time, something bad happens.. and each time they run.. finally, trouble catches up with them..

This movie is a prime example of how movies should be made.. its an indie classic in the making.. a cult hit if you may.. it never lets go once it grabs ahold.. watch and enjoy.. you won't be dissapointed..

1-0 out of 5 stars This film stinks.
"The Doom Generation" is a piece of garbage. It tries to be so many things and fails on all levels. It's not art and it's not good entertainment.
It tries to be as violent and funny as "Pulp Fiction" and "Natural Born Killers" are and it fails! "The Doom Generation" tries to shock the audience with violence and even there it fails! I guess one could call it a boring and cheesy comedy. The only thing to laugh about it's how predictable and boring it is. Still, I give it 1 star for the scene where the "heroes" of "The Doom Generation" show a bit of compassion for a dog.
Otherwise, it's as boring as a rat's ass!

1-0 out of 5 stars Over-The-Top is the absolute understatement
I rented this movie basically because of the fact that it touted itself as a "road flick," a genre that I'm usually a fan of. I'll admit the gratuitous violence in the beginning had me laughing just because of how corny it was presented, but this wore itself out several minutes later. The film tries to loosely have some kind of "hell" theme by continuously referring to $6.66 as payment for different items they buy along the way. We get it. You didn't have to do it 7 times. I wasn't sure exactly what theme the writer was trying to convey, but it doesn't matter because the story it was based on was so bad anyway. The filmmakers try to use shocking visuals and group sex to (I guess) grab the attention of the audience, which is good because it diverts that attention away from the terrible story that's going on. Don't waste your time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Over Cooked?
Normally, I don't care much for movies that try to hard to be shocking but this one does leave an impression. The entire film is jam-packed with subliminal messages and 'eye-candy' visuals. There is a story here, with no satisfying conlusion, that is entertaining as he77 to watch. The ending to this film is "overly-shocking" by which I mean not shocking because it tries so hard to be shocking, but it will suprise you. I give it 3 stars because it is not the best movie ever but it leaves a lasting impressioin. I guarantee it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good movie
I liked the plot of this movie. John Stamos actually knows how to ride. The race sceen is pretty cool.

3-0 out of 5 stars John Stamos Rides Again
This is one of my favorite action movies. I originally watched it because of John Stamos, but now that I don't really care one way or another about him, I still appreciate the movie a little for what it is; a motorcycle/war/action flick. Stamos does a bang-up job, there is an exploding motorcycle for those who resonate to that, and of course, a little love story on the side. So, if you like Stamos, or if you like to see motorcycles burst into flames, watch this movie.
